Aims/Introduction Elevated concentrations of fasting plasma glucose (FPG) or hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) are well‐established independent risk factors for progression to diabetes, cardiovascular comorbidities and mortality. Most previous studies on the relationships of anthropometric measures with hyperglycemia were carried out among adults and adolescents, but few data are available for the performance predication of the predictors for diagnosing elevated FPG or HbA1c among young children. Materials and Methods Involving 5,556 students of aged 7–9 years, a school‐based cross‐sectional survey was carried out between March and June 2019 in Shenzhen, China. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis was utilized. Results The median was 4.6 (interquartile range [IQR] 4.3–4.8) mmol/L for FPG and 5.3% (IQR 5.1–5.5%) for HbA1c levels for all participants. For detecting elevated FPG, weight (0.651, IQR 0.583–0.719) and waist circumference (0.650, IQR 0.584–0.717) showed the highest area under the curve and 95% confidence interval, followed by body mass index and the z‐score of body mass index (both 0.635, IQR 0.567–0.703); other anthropometric measures showed poorer diagnostic efficiencies or no ability. For detecting elevated HbA1c, lower efficiencies for the Conicity Index (0.651, IQR 0.583–0.719), waist‐to‐height ratio, waist‐to‐hip ratio and waist‐to‐chest ratio were shown. The correlations of FPG and HbA1c levels with anthropometric indices were weak (Spearman’s r ≤ 0.179). Conclusions None of the evaluated anthropometric indicators approached an adequate predictive accuracy for the detection of elevated FPG or HbA1c levels in Shenzhen children aged 7–9 years. Oxidative stress and hypoxia are two opposite microenvironments involved in HCC metastasis. Thioredoxin (TXN) and hypoxia-inducible factor 2α (HIF-2α) are typical proteins involved in these two different microenvironments, respectively. How these two factors interact to influence the fate on tumor cells remains unknown. Hypoxia facilitated HCC cells withstood oxidative stress and eventually promoted HCC cells metastasis, in which TXN and HIF-2α were mostly involved. Upregulation of TXN/HIF-2α correlated with poor HCC prognosis and promoted HCC metastasis both in vitro and in vivo. Epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) process was involved in TXN/HIF-2α-enhanced invasiveness of HCC cells. Additionally, the stability and activity of HIF-2α were precisely regulated by TXN via SUMOylation and acetylation, which contributed to HCC metastasis. Our data revealed that the redox protein TXN and HIF-2α are both associated with HCC metastasis, and the fine regulation of TXN on HIF-2α contributes essentially during the process of metastasis. Our study provides new insight into the interaction mechanism between hypoxia and oxidative stress and implies potential therapeutic benefits by targeting both TXN and HIF-2α in the treatment of HCC metastasis.

Esophageal cancer with a history of distal gastrectomy is a clinical problem. To our knowledge there have been no reports of remnant stomach fed from the left gastroepiploic artery being used in esophageal reconstruction. We, herein, report four cases of esophagogastric reconstruction using remnant stomach with a single left gastroepiploic vascular pedicel. It is more functional to use the remnant stomach than other replacements. Meanwhile, the gastric conduit fed from the left gastroepiploic artery showed sufficient vascularity and stable gastroesophageal anastomosis. The technique and outcomes in follow-up have proven feasible and save time.

A core–shell polyacrylate elastomer containing ultraviolet (UV) stabilizer was synthesized via semicontinuous seeded emulsion polymerization from butyl acrylate (BA), methyl methacrylate (MMA), and a polymerizable UV stabilizer 2-hydroxy-4-(3-methacryloxy-2-hydroxylproroxy)benzophenone (BPMA). The core–shell poly(MMA-BA-BPMA) was investigated by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, gel permeation chromatography UV–visible (UV–vis) absorption spectroscopy, and transmission electron microscope. Furthermore, the obtained core–shell poly(MMA-BA-BPMA) elastomer was used as a modifier to enhance the UV resistance and impact resistance of polyoxymethylene (POM). As studied by scanning electron microscope, the core–shell poly(BA-MMA-BPMA) elastomer could be well dispersed in POM matrix, indicating that the elastomer had good compatibility with POM. In addition, the POM/poly(MMA-BA-BPMA) blend was examined by differential scanning calorimetry before and after UV irradiation. The results showed that the melting point decreased as the irradiation time increased; however, the crystallinity culminated at 500-h UV irradiation slightly decreased and at last leveled off. The mechanical properties of POM/poly(BA-MMA-BPMA) before and after UV irradiation were also studied. It revealed that the photostabilizing fragments in the elastomer could provide long-term UV resistance to POM. Besides, the impact strength was also improved when compared with pure POM. POLYM. ENG. In order to improve the photostability of polyoxymethylene (POM), a core-shell acrylate elastomer with UV stabilization, i.e. poly[(methyl methacrylate)-(butyl acrylate)-2-hydroxy-4-(3-methacryloxy-2-hydroxypropoxy)benzophenone] (core-shell poly(MMA-BA-BPMA)), was added into the POM matrix using a melt-mixing method. The effect of the modification with core-shell poly(MMA-BA-BPMA) on POM was compared with that of poly(MMA-co-BA-co-BPMA) copolymer. Scanning electron microscopy, metallographic microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, X-ray diffraction and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy were employed to characterize POM blends before and after UV irradiation, and the mechanical properties of the POM blends were investigated. The results showed that core-shell poly(MMA-BA-BPMA) improved well the compatibility with and toughness of the POM matrix, and its light-stable functional groups could increase the UV resistance of POM blends. During UV aging, the impact strength and elongation at break of POM/core-shell poly(MMA-BA-BPMA) blends were retained, the growth rate of surface cracks of POM was inhibited effectively by core-shell poly(MMA-BA-BPMA) and the degree of photo-oxidation of POM blend surfaces was improved to a certain extent. Compared with poly(MMA-co-BA-co-BPMA), core-shell poly(MMA-BA-BPMA) had a better UV stabilization effect on the POM matrix. Our results indicate that the core-shell acrylate elastomer with toughening and UV stabilization functions can significantly improve the long-term UV stability of POM. This paper describes the design of a compact stripline ceramic filter, using short-circuit stepped-impedance resonators (SIRs) to enhance the harmonic stop-band response. Moreover, this filter has a very small size of 3.6 mm × 3.0 mm × 0.5 mm and a low insertion loss of 0.6 dB in the passband. The filter's response, with a design center frequency of 2390 MHz and 3-dB bandwidth at 250 MHz (10.4%), shows an increase in the first harmonic frequency to 9004 MHz. At three times the fundamental passband frequency (7160 MHz), stop-band attenuation is better than −40 dB. The results demonstrate the usefulness of SIRs for improving the stop-band performance of bandpass filters. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The microstrip-via-microstrip is a popular interconnect structure in multilayer circuits at microwave frequency. The microstrip connecting angle is an arbitrary angle due to layout and technical error. The relationship between the propagation characteristics of via and the microstrip connecting angle was analyzed by using the Ansoft simulator. The obtained results have important application value for the design of a similar multilayer circuit. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A tapped bandpass filter composed of two coupled stepped-impedance resonators (SIRs) is proposed. The two resonators are arranged in different plane. The volume of proposed filter is about 60% of that of conventional filter. We investigate the filtering characteristics using both network analysis and experimentation. It is shown that this filter has a very sharp response below its passband. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this paper, resonant frequency and quality factors of a square-corner-cut dielectric resonator are obtained by using the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method, and the resonant frequencies of some modes in the resonator are analyzed.
