NONVERBAL ability , *CROSS-cultural studies on adolescent psychology , *NONVERBAL communication , *CREATIVE ability in adolescence , *CREATIVE ability testing - Abstract
Background. The purpose of this work was to explore non-verbal creativity (free from language influences) between Mexican and Lithuanian adolescents. Methods. This is a cross comparative study of 354 high school students (average age 17.2 years) from Lithuania and Mexico who were asked to complete four tasks from the 2 nonverbal sections of the Multifactorial assessment of creativity test, EMUC (Evaluación Multifactorial de la Creatividad, Sánchez, García, Valdes, 2009). The first section explored visual-spatial creativity associated with vocational choices such as architecture and graphic design. The second explored inventive associated with realistic vocational choices such as engineering and practical handcraft. Results. No significant differences were noticed in the procedures of administering, interpreting and using test results in these two countries. In general, Lithuanians show more fluidity and flexibility, whereas Mexicans show more originality. Results indicated a poor relationship between high creative potential and vocational choices that demand creativity (i.e. design, music, etc.). Consistent gender differences were observed depending upon the type of creativity assessed. Women showed higher creativity on visual-spatial tasks, while men in originality for inventive tasks. Conclusions. Results underline the difficulties in assessing and comparing creative products from different cultures. They underline the importance of context specific criteria to judge creativity in an ipsative fashion. Furthermore, overall results suggest that visual-spatial tasks in this age range should focus on originality and elaboration, whereas the ingenuity task should focus on flexibility and fluidity. International Affective Picture System (IAPS) is a database of photographs, which is used for studying human emotions, cognition, behavior and other areas. Although IAPS is considered suitable for using in different countries, there are some cross-cultural differences. Purpose. The aim of the present study was to determine the valence, arousal and dominance ratings of IAPS pictures in the sample of Lithuanian students and compare them with original United States (US) norms. Methods and Results. 103 Lithuania's psychology students rated valence, arousal and dominance of 59 images from IAPS system. The results showed a high correlation between ratings of Lithuanian and US samples of all three dimensions. However, there were significant differences in the mean ratings of emotional valence and arousal - Lithuanian participants' ratings were closer to neutral value. Moreover, some gender differences were found. Our study showed that men are more aroused by pleasant pictures compared to women, whereas an opposite tendency was observed with unpleasant pictures - women are more aroused by such images compared to men. Conclusions. The study findings suggested that IAPS can be reliably used as stimuli for studies of emotion in Lithuania. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
This paper takes as its focus four national cultures, namely Somali, Dutch, Nigerian, and British. Knowledge about these cultures is drawn from two literary books, both of which reflect personal cross-cultural experiences. In “Infidel” (2007), a woman who was born and raised in Somalia and other Islamic countries moves to the Netherlands. In “Second-Class Citizen” (1974), a woman who was born and raised in Nigeria emigrates to the United Kingdom. In both cases, the protagonists change their living environment from a country in Africa to a country in Europe. The aim of the paper is to describe and compare the four cultures using a cross-cultural perspective. First of all, general concepts are explained, and the theoretical framework to be used in the analysis is introduced. Part 2 deals with the concept of culture, providing opinions of a number of scholars in the field. It also discusses the validity of equalling culture with country. Part 3 presents four cultural dimensions from Geert Hofstede’s model for studying national cultures, namely power distance, collectivism versus individualism, femininity versus masculinity and uncertainty avoidance. Each dimension is unpacked looking for the most prominent aspects. Part 4 is the analytical part where the four cultural dimensions are traced in the two books. Descriptions of Somali, Dutch, Nigerian and British cultures are analysed, looking for manifestations of each cultural dimension. It is observed that in many respects, Somali... [to full text], Šis magistro darbas tiria keturias kultūras: Somalio, Olandijos, Nigerijos ir Didžiosios Britanijos.

- Abstract
[toliau žr. visą tekstą], Master’s thesis presents V.Dubeneckis biography and briefly overviews the contextual field of his works as well as the period. In the analysis of the architectural heritage, V. Dubeneckis’s Lithuanian folk and neo-classical forms of fusion with the ideas of modernist architecture trends are discussed. - Abstract
Tai tampa svarbus argumentas salonų kultūrą laikyti paveldėta nematerialiąja Kauno miesto istorijos dalimi., The aim of these Master theses is to analyze the expression of Salon culture and continuity of this cultural process in interwar Kaunas. Interlaced lifestyle and creativity of interwar intellectuals determined the formation of lively and highbrowed atmosphere in the city. Communication of intellectuals in this cultural environment also determined the rise of Salon culture phenomenon. In this research culture and society compose one entire system and it is explored through expressed and fixed personal experiences, common public conventions, processes of arts. Therefore the culture of interwar Kaunas is considered not just as the one which kept essential classic Salon characteristics, but it is also a typical communication tradition of XX century’s society. The culture of Salons is defined as distinctive social communication form also as attesting process of ideological maturity. The continuance of Salons manifestation is recognized in later periods, after ending of Lithuanian interwar epoch. In interwar period as well as when statehood was lost, the manifestation of Salon culture enriched the city of Kaunas, formed traditions of intellectuals and became essential attribute of social life. This is a very important argument taking into consideration that culture of Salons is non – material part of Kaunas city history.
