The main topic of this bachelor s thesis is the role of the European Union in the political development of Serbia and Kosovo, starting from the Allied Force operation in 1999 and ending with the current process of normalization of relations between the two states. The thesis is divided into three chapters. First chapter deals with the concept of power in international relations and the work of Joseph Nye who introduced the concept of soft power. Second chapter introduces the topic of relations between Serbs and Kosovar Albanians from the end of World War II until the climax of the tension between both ethnical groups before the war in Kosovo in 1998. The third and main chapter of this thesis identifies and analyses tools which are used by the EU to influence the development in Western Balkans. Furthermore, based on theoretical findings in the first chapter, it attempts to determine whether the tools the EU uses to influence the development in Serbia and Kosovo are based on soft or hard power.

The theme of this thesis is position of Kosovo in international relations. Kosovo unilaterally declared independence from Serbia in February 2008 and belongs to the failed states. In this thesis I will examine the main causes of the dysfunction of Kosovo, and how it is reflected in Kosovo current position.

This bachelor thesis deals with the cultural diplomacy of the countries of former Yugoslavia. The work has three objectives. The first objective is to determine whether the practice of cultural diplomacy in ex-Yugoslav countries exists. If it does, the next step is its evaluation. In case it does not exist, it is necessary to find out why. The paper first presents the theoretical framework of cultural diplomacy, which is followed by the main part that introduces the form of practice in each country. Given the new trend that cultural diplomacy represents the information is processed and evaluated with the aid of a variety of foreign sources. Based on the evaluation of the countries, I found out that the practice of cultural diplomacy in some form exists in each of them. The contribution of this work is to map the region that has not been examined at all or very little.

The aim of this work is to describe and analyze the state of Serbian economy before and during the global economic crisis and evaluate its impacts on the economy of Serbia in terms of different macroeconomic variables. It particularly focuses on the impact of the crisis on the financial sector, Serbian dinar exchange rate, foreign debt, exports, foreign direct investments and unemployment. The work deals further with the anti-crisis measures of the Serbian government and the National Bank of Serbia, which has been taken and their effectiveness. Finally, the current situation of Serbian economy is portrayed and possible solutions for the crisis are proposed.

Doctoral dissertation presents an analysis of the Serbian economy in the mutual relations between the European Union (EU) and the Western Balkans. The assumption that the EU and Serbia, as an integral part of the Balkan region, have interests in the partnership and cooperation is the baseline of the research. The following aspects have been singled out, by method of ranking, which is based on achieving the highest turnover in the last six years: trade, foreign direct investment and energy. Gravity model was used to analyze routes of trade and energy. A models of trade import and export between Serbia and the EU 28 member countries and the countries of the Western Balkans, as well as models of imports and exports of energy between Serbia and the EU 28 member countries and the countries of the Western Balkans, were used in order to assess the potential of trade and energy trade. Method of trend line and trend extrapolation of foreign direct investment (FDI) was used in order to determine the degree of the presence of FDI in Serbia and their predictions, which could be an indicator of investment climate in Serbia. The conclusion is that Serbia has strategic importance as a candidate for membership in the EU because of its regional importance. Entering the Western Balkan countries in the EU should not happen without Serbia, because Serbia has a regional importance, which arise from the economic, historical, cultural, infrastructural and geopolitical links with countries in the region, of which some are already members of the EU.

The thesis describes the process of enlargement of EU, with emphasis on circumstances, which influences the enlargement process, with current candidate countries (Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Iceland, Montenegro, Serbia and Turkey) and the new member state Croatia as example. The thesis is divided into three chapters; first chapter presents basic information about phases of the process. Second chapter deals with previous enlargements of European Community, or EU. Third chapter analyzes current candidate states, presents their political and economical characteristics and current stage of the process. A part of the third chapter predicts future development and possible date of the entry of each candidate state.

The diploma's thesis "Risks of Serbian market in the eyes of Czech exporters and businessman" deals with the most current risks that complicate or endanger business activities in Serbia. The aim of the thesis was analysis and determination of the most problematic risks that are perceived by Czech businessmen and exporters. Individual chapters deal with general classification of business risks, Serbian rating, and its territorial, commercial and monetary risks. The last chapter is oriented practically and contains results of survey and views of in issue interested subjects.

Presented work deals with the issues of bankruptcies in pre-selected countries: Czech Republic, Slovak Republic, Serbia and Croatia, both from an economic and legal viewpoint. First four chapters are devoted to more detailed analysis of insolvency (bankruptcy) laws of each country with regard to their development and current practice. At the end of each chapter is described a current "bankruptcy situation" on the markets of individual economies. The sixth chapter deals with bankruptcies in Europe (Western Europe and Central and Eastern Europe). Part of this chapter is also devoted to the development of selected economies in terms of their GDP. The seventh chapter highlights the economic aspects of bankruptcy and the eighth chapter analyzes the data obtained. The work focuses only on corporate bankruptcies and is completed with appropriate graphs and tables both in the text and in the appendices.

The diploma thesis deals with the foreign development cooperation of the Czech Republic. It assesses previous trends of development cooperation analyzing concepts and tools in terms of bilateral assistance or commitments to international organizations. It reviews not only the public sector, but also non-profit organizations and private entities. The aim is to investigate to what extent the economic growth of countries is affected by development assistance and to what by developing countries themselves and if the Czech development aid has fundamentally contributed to the support of democracy, private enterprise, protection of private property and human rights. The part of the thesis is practical application on Serbia, one of the largest recipients of the Czech development cooperation in recent years. In conclusion the thesis evaluates current concepts and introduces solutions and recommendations for further development of the aid, both domestic or global scale.

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to determine whether mutual Serb-Croatian relations affect in any way the accession process of these countries into the European Union. The thesis is divided into three chapters. The first chapter describes the historical events which had or still have an impact on mutual relations. The second chapter examines the mutual relations in political, economic and cultural aspects and the third chapter identifies the basic problems of mutual relations and their impact on integration into the European Union.

Content of this thesis is comparison of Slovenia, Croatia and Serbia from following points of view - development after disintegration of common state, their transformation processes and accession negotiations with the European Union. It explains the reasons for current different positions of compared states and brings forecasts for their future development.

The aim of this thesis is to evaluate the structure and importance of business relations between the EU and Serbia, i.e. thesis submits an answer to the question of how bilateral trade is beneficial from the perspective of both sides, what are the possibilities of its development with regard to the crisis and what effect would it have on the eventual accession of Serbia to the EU. The first chapter analyzes macroeconomic situation of Serbia and the degree of involvement in the international trade. The second chapter analyzes relations between the EU and Serbia - the legal basis of mutual trade, the structure of trade and business and political integration. The last chapter focuses on trends in trade and negotiations and entry of Serbia to the WTO.

The Bachelor's Thesis is about business environment, business and cultural specifics of Serbia. The first chapter contains basic information about geography, people and current political situation of Serbia. The second chapter contains information about Serbian business environment and the third chapter is about orthodox religion, cultural dimensions and traditions. The last chapter about business ethics and specifics contains information about specifics of business negotiations.

The bachelor thesis analyses legal and political aspects of Kosovo's secession from Republic of Serbia in attempt to determine if it is really sui generis, as it used to be claimed by the Kosovo's independence supporters. The theoretical part analyses the basic Constitutional and International Law requirements that a state is supposed to meet in order to reach international recognition. Besides, it provides a description of different forms of right of self - determination and discusses the circumstances, under which a nation would be entitled to claim a remedial secession from the home state. The empirical part examines specific circumstances of the former Yugoslavia's disintegration and the legal position of Kosovo as an autonomous province of Serbia in the period from 1974 -- 1999, in attempt to determine if Kosovo Albanians have ever had a legal entitlement to the secession from Serbia. Besides, in order to enquire whether Kosovo's secession could be considered an example of the remedial secession, the work provides a historical analysis of the Albanian-Serbian relations in Kosovo, with a highlight on the period from the Second World War on, as well as the analysis of the war crimes and alleged organ trafficking, that has recently re-emerged in the Council of Europe.

This bachelor thesis focuses more on exploring the potential for further enlargement of the EU and selected countries in the Western Balkans (Macedonia, Croatia, Serbia).

The aim of this paper is to answer the question how the possible entrance of Serbia into EU fits into definition of national interest on the Serbian political scene. First, the theoretical formulation of the concept "national interest" is laid out. The second chapter includes description of fundamental foreign and political issues, which had to be solved after the fall of the previous regime. The third chapter characterizes current Serbian political system and programmes of main political parties. The fourth chapter compares official goals of the government with public opinion polls as regards the entrance of Serbia into EU. The second part of the paper is dedicated to description of particular steps of Serbia towards full membership and respective attitudes of political parties.

The thesis analyzes the banking sectors in selected countries of CEE region, in particular in Albania, Serbia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina and compares their development with the Czech Republic as it is CEE country with one of the most advanced banking sectors in the region. Three parts of the paper analyzing separately each of the countries are supplemented by country comparison and final conclusions. General development, development of banking sector as well as banking market and financial performance of banks are examined. As a conclusion, all the countries develop in a different way and with different starting conditions. Albania relies more on qualitative development with low absolute figures but high relative indicators with respect to the utilization of available resources. The development in Serbia is rather quantitative, in contrary to the situation in Albania. Bosnia and Herzegovina is progressing quite ambiguously also due to uncertain political situation in the country. It can be also concluded that all the three countries still have to go a long way to reach comparable level of their banking systems with the Czech Republic.

Celkový politický a ekonomický vývoj Republiky Srbska je ovlivněn samotným regionem Balkánu, v jehož centrální části Srbsko leží. Celá historie Balkánského teritoria je až do současnosti provázena konflikty, majících různé příčiny.Konflikty měly buď etnický a náboženský charakter nebo obyvatelé Balkánu bojovali za osvobození zemí od nadvlády, nežádoucích politických systémů, a dokonce i kvůli nátlaku z vnějšku -- například územním sporům. Období existence SFRJ je pro balkánský region klidné období a pro svazové republiky, včetně Srbska, velmi prosperující. Za vlády Josipa Broza Tita, SFRJ měla jednu z nejprestižnějších pozic ve světě.Po Titově smrti došlo k hospodářské krizi a nárůstu nacionalismu uvnitř svazových republik. Kromě toho začaly v Srbsku ještě nepokoje v oblasti Kosova. Po vyhlášení nezávislosti svazových republik na začátku 90. let a bohužel i občanských válek, pouze Srbsko a Černá Hora zůstávaly součástí Jugoslávie. Název byl změněn na Svazovou republiku Jugoslávie a byly převzaty všechny dluhy SFRJ. Situaci, kdy došlo k odtržení ostatních republik od Jugoslávie, chtělo využít i Kosovo na samém konci 20. století. V roce 1999 se SR Jugoslávie stala terčem leteckých útoků ze strany NATO. Hlavní převrat politické a ekonomické situace nastal v roce 2000, kdy došlo k pádu Miloševićová režimu, který byl hlavním aktérem srbské politické scény od samého počátku krize v SFRJ a zahájení období transformace. Od této doby je prioritou Srbska integrace do Evropské unie a zachování své integrity a vlastního území. Srbsko kvůli událostem na Balkáně mělo zpoždění jak se zahájením transformačního období tak i se zapojením do Stabilizačního a asociačního procesu. Přestože proces SAP pro země západního Balkánu byl spuštěn v roce 2000, Srbsko se do samotného procesu zapojilo až v roce 2003. V dubnu 2008 byla podepsána Stabilizační a asociační dohoda, která byla schválena v září srbským parlamentem.

Dlouhá historie vzájemných vztahů České republiky a Srbska (potažmo Československa a Jugoslávie) získala na počátku 21. století nový rozměr: zahraniční rozvojovou spolupráci. Česká republika zařadila Srbsko mezi prioritní země své zahraniční rozvojové spolupráce především z důvodu historicko-politické, kulturní a ekonomické blízkosti. Komparativní výhodou České republiky coby dárce rozvojové pomoci Srbsku je především zkušenost (a desetiletý náskok) s procesem ekonomické transformace a začleňování do evropských struktur. S ekonomickou transformací přirozeně souvisí i rostoucí pozornost věnovaná oblasti ochrany životního prostředí; Česká republika má tedy v tomto sektoru know-how, které může Srbsku poskytnout. Česká firma Dekonta, a.s., je příkladem úspěšného zapojení českého podnikatelského subjektu do zahraniční rozvojové spolupráce v sektoru ochrany životního prostředí.

This dissertation thesis is focused on the analysis of changing relations between the Western Balkan countries (WB) and the European Union (EU) against background of actual transformation processes in these countries. The Western Balkans represents a group of countries which were not part of so-called Eastern Enlargement of the EU, but are also slowly heading towards the EU. The EU distinguishes three groups of countries within the WB: Croatia has become an acceding country; then here is a group of candidate countries (Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM), Montenegro, Serbia), and the last group is formed by so-called potential candidate countries (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo). All of these above mentioned countries are part of the Stabilisation and Association Process (SAP) which nowadays represents the core of the Enlargement Policy of the EU and stands for the main research topic of this thesis. The thesis also comprehends the history of the enlargement process of the EU and the basic theoretical concepts of the (EU) enlargement. The "transformation" chapter includes a theoretical grounding too. Three hypotheses were verified (mainly) by results of transformation, evaluation of Copenhagen criteria by the European Commission, and by the statistical methods (Principal Components Analysis and Cluster Analysis) based on a number of economic and demographic indicators.
