The socioemotional development of gifted and talented children has been an object of controversy in literature. We aimed (1) to assess the relationship between social skills and subjective well-being in gifted and talented children as well as (2) to identify the predictive power of the first variable on the second. The participants were 269 children identified as gifted and talented with a mean age of 11 years (SD=0.91). They answered to standardized instruments of social skills and subjective well-being. One found that an elaborate repertoire of social skills is associated with the perception of greater subjective well-being and may also predict this second variable. Therefore an elaborate repertoire of social skills may increase the likelihood of self reported positive affect, self-confidence, self-esteem and good mood, among other aspects. The aim of this study was to investigate the relations between the measure of marital relationships of parents, as perceived by married children, and measures of subjective well-being and satisfaction in romantic relationships. There were 118 Brazilian married individuals (M = 16.17 years; SD = 9.98), with a mean age of 41.55 (SD =10.01). The instruments used were: Scale of Subjective Well-being, Conjugality Parental Questionnaire and Scale Factor Satisfaction with Couple Relationships. We calculated the correlations between measurements of continuous variables of the factors of the instruments by Spearman coefficient, which indicated that the perception of sons and daughters on the parents' marital is not correlated with other variables. The marital relationship satisfaction was correlated with positive affect, highlighting the need to close readings of individual transformations from one's own marital experience. The aims of this study were to verify the relation of the subjective well-being of parents and their children, and to present optimism and well-being levels in groups of adults and children. Participants were 390 children aged between four and 11 years of age and 287 parents, aged between 24 and 77. Boys scored higher than girls in pessimism, and mothers showed more satisfaction with life than fathers. Fathers' life satisfaction was correlated with mothers' life satisfaction. Results showed mother's optimism was positively correlated with children's life satisfaction, and mothers' positive affect correlated positively with children's optimism. In order to contribute to the understanding of subjective well-being and to the enhancement of assessment processes of subjective quality of life during childhood, this study aimed at investigating the concept of happiness in children. Two-hundred children (52.5% girls) from 5 to 12 years-old, students in public or private schools in Porto Alegre, Brazil, participated in this research. Children responded individually to what came to their mind with the word happiness and to how they define happiness. Answers went through content analysis, and comparisons were made for sex, public or private school, and age range. The most mentioned contents were positive feelings, leisure, and friends. Girls highlighted positive feelings in happiness, whilst boys referred more to leisure. The aim of this study was to construct a positive and negative affect scale (AS) and to search for validity evidence. The participants were 850 undergraduate students from southern Brazil, 57% female, with a mean age of 21 years (SD=3). A factor analysis extracted two factors: positive affect (PA) and negative affect (NA). The first one presented an eigenvalue of 5.1 explaining 25.6% of the total variance; the second factor presented an eigenvalue of 2,6 explaining 12.8% of the total variance. The internal consistency for PA was .83, and .77 for NA. High correlations between the two factors of the AS and PANAS were observed: .73 for PA and .74 for NA. It was also observed that PA had positive correlations with life satisfaction, hope, optimism, and self-esteem while NA presented negative correlations with those variables.
