Materials and Methods: The CONSORT 2010 protocol was followed for sample selection and distribution. It was a prospective study, split-mouth parallel randomized, including 54 recessions within Group RPCM+ETCS: Zucchelli Technique + ETCS; and Group 2: Zucchelli Technique + A PRF; 6 blood samples were collected; centrifugation (1300 rpm for 14 minutes, with G force of 210); and preparation of A-PRF membranes in the Stainless Steel Kit (Intra-Luck®). For the analysis of the results, the periodontal indices of height and width of the GR, probing depth, clinical insertion level, gingival level, keratinized tissue width, keratinized gingival tissue thickness, and sensitivity level, in the initial period, 90 and 180 days of following up. Statistical analysis: The GraphPad Prism 8.0 program® was used for statistical analysis. The ANOVA and TUKEY tests were performed. Kruskall-WALLIS and DUNN tests were performed to analyze the pain parameter, with a significance level of 5%. Results: The parameters probing depth and bleeding index remained without statistically significant changes in both groups. There was improvement in the parameters height and width of the recession, height of the inserted gum, thickness of the gum and level of sensitivity in both groups. There was no statistically significant difference between groups. Conclusion: There was clinical improvement in all criteria evaluated for both groups. Thus, the Coronally Advanced Flap modified by Zucchelli associated with A-PRF is as effective as the Coronally Advanced Flap modified by Zucchelli associated with ETCS. Avaliar a efetividade do retalho posicionado coronalmente modificado por Zucchelli (RPCM) associado à membrana de Fibrina Rica em Plaquetas Avançada (A-PRF) no recobrimento radicular em pacientes portadores de recessão gengival tipo 1 de Cairo. Materiais e Métodos: Seguiu-se o protocolo CONSORT 2010 para a seleção e distribuição da amostra. Foi um estudo prospectivo, com grupos em boca-dividida, paralelos randomizados, sendo 54 recessões divididas igualmente entre Grupo RPCM+ETCS (Enxerto de tecido conjuntivo subepitelial) e Grupo RPCM+A-PRF. No grupo RPCM+A-PRF, foi realizada coleta de seis tubos de sangue; centrifugação (1300 rpm por 14 minutos, com força G de 210); e preparo das membranas de A-PRF no Kit em inox (Intra-Luck®). Para a análise dos resultados foi observado os índices periodontais de altura e largura da recessão gengival, profundidade de sondagem, sangramento à sondagem, nível de inserção clínica, nível gengival, altura da gengiva inserida, espessura do tecido gengival queratinizado e nível de sensibilidade, no período inicial, de 90 e 180 dias após a realização das cirurgias. Análise Estatística: Foi utilizado o programa GraphPad Prism 8.0®. Realizou-se os teste de ANOVA e TUKEY. Para análise do parâmetro de dor, foi utilizado os testes de KRUSKALL-WALLIS e DUNN, com nível de significância de 5%. Resultados: Os parâmetros profundidade de sondagem e índice de sangramento mantiveram-se sem alterações estatisticamente significantes em ambos os grupos. Houve melhora nos parâmetros altura e largura da recessão, altura da gengiva inserida, espessura da gengiva e nível de sensibilidade em ambos os grupos. Não houve diferenças estatisticamente significantes intergrupos. Conclusão: Houve melhora clínica em todos os critérios avaliados, para ambos os grupos. Assim, o retalho posicionado coronalmente modificado por Zucchelli associado ao A-PRF é tão efetivo quanto o retalho posicionado coronalmente modificado por Zucchelli associado ao ETCS.

The objective of this research was to compare the results of root coverage of surgical techniques for root coverage of Tunnel and Coronary Positioned Flap (RPC), both associated with Subepithelial Connective Tissue Graft (ETCS), in patients with Cairo RT2 gingival recession. Objectives: To evaluate through a systematic review and meta-analysis whether in-office tooth bleaching improves the quality of life of patients undergoing treatment. Materials and Method: Using electronic databases MEDLINE (via PubMed), Cochrane Library, Brazilian Dental Library, Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature (LILACS) and citation databases (Scopus and Web of Science) were selected. articles that evaluated the quality of life of patients undergoing inoffice tooth bleaching, including only randomized clinical trials and split mouth in humans based on their titles and without restriction of publication date or language. The start date of the research studies was April 15, 2021 and received an update on July 14, 2021. Two review authors selected studies that met the inclusion criteria. Relevant information about study design, participant interventions, and outcomes was independently extracted using custom extraction forms. The same reviewers assessed the quality of studies using the Cochrane Collaboration tool to detect risk of bias. Statistical analysis: Data were analyzed using Rstudio statistical software, meta-analyses were performed on eligible studies and summarized by calculating the standardized mean difference for continuous data and the hazard ratio, and the results were expressed in graphs. Results: Two reviewers selected studies that met the inclusion criteria. Of the 68 full-text articles evaluated, 17 articles remained and were analyzed. Of these, one article was at high risk of bias, three were at low risk, and the other 13 were at uncertain risk. The meta-analysis showed that of the eligible studies we had 50% satisfaction after in-office tooth bleaching. Conclusion: There was an improvement in the quality of life of patients who underwent in-office tooth bleaching. O clareamento dental em consultório é um método eficaz, seguro e popular entre os pacientes que buscam um sorriso mais bonito. Objetivo: Avaliar por meio da revisão sistemática e meta-análise se o clareamento dental em consultório melhora a qualidade de vida dos pacientes submetidos ao tratamento. Materiais e Método: Utilizando as bases de dados eletrônicas MEDLINE (via PubMed), Biblioteca Cochrane, Biblioteca Odontológica Brasileira, Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde (LILACS) e bases de citações (Scopus e Web of Science) foram selecionados artigos que avaliaram a qualidade de vida de pacientes submetidos a clareamento dental em consultório, incluindo apenas ensaios clínicos randomizados e boca dividida em humanos com base em seus títulos e sem restrição de data de publicação ou idioma. A data de início dos estudos de pesquisa foi 15 de abril de 2021 e recebeu uma atualização em 14 de julho de 2021. Dois revisores selecionaram os estudos que atenderam aos critérios de inclusão. Informações relevantes sobre o desenho do estudo, as intervenções dos participantes e os resultados foram extraídas independentemente usando formulários de extração personalizados. Os mesmos revisores avaliaram a qualidade dos estudos usando a ferramenta Cochrane Collaboration para detectar o risco de viés. Análise estatística: Os dados foram analisados usando o software estatístico Rstudio, foram realizadas metanálises em estudos elegíveis e resumidas pelo cálculo da diferença média padronizada para dados contínuos e a razão de risco, e os resultados foram expressos em gráficos. Resultados: Dois revisores selecionaram os estudos que atendiam aos critérios de inclusão. Dos 68 artigos em texto completo avaliados, 17 artigos permaneceram e foram analisados. Destes, um artigo teve alto risco de viés, três tiveram baixo risco e os outros 13 tiveram risco incerto. A meta-análise mostrou que dos estudos elegíveis tivemos 50% de satisfação após o clareamento em consultório. Conclusão: Houve melhora da qualidade de vida dos pacientes que realizaram clareamento dental de consultório.

It is also a simple and effective treatment with great short-term results. Although it may present some risks, it is considered a safe and minimally invasive method. OBJECTIVE: To assess, through a systematic review and metaanalysis, whether patients subjected to at-home tooth bleaching had their quality of life improved. MATERIALS AND METHOD: The studies were searched in the following electronic databases (until June 2021): MEDLINE (via PubMed), Cochrane Library, Brazilian Dental Library, Latin American and Caribbean Literature on Health Sciences (LILACS), and citation databases (Scopus, Web of Science and EMBASE). The studies were selected according to their titles, without language restrictions. Study quality was assessed with the Cochrane Collaboration tool to detect the risk of bias. STATISTICAL TREATMENT: The data was analyzed with the RStudio statistical software and summarized by calculating the standardized mean difference for continuous data and risk ratio and, along with the 95% confidence interval, for dichotomous data, using a random-effects model expressed in tables and graphs. RESULTS: Duplicates were removed and two reviewers selected the studies that met the inclusion criteria. Of the 68 full-text articles evaluated, 13 remained and were analyzed for initial results. Of these, one article had a high risk of bias, one had a low risk, and the other 11 had an uncertain risk. Of the 13 articles evaluated, seven were part of the meta-analysis and presented 87% of patient satisfaction after bleaching. CONCLUSION: There was an improvement in the quality of life of patients subjected to at-home tooth bleaching. O clareamento dental caseiro proporciona benefícios estéticos aos pacientes e pode ajudar a melhorar sua autoestima e autoconfiança. É também um tratamento simples e eficaz com ótimos resultados a curto prazo. Embora possa apresentar alguns riscos, é considerado um método seguro e minimamente invasivo. OBJETIVO: Avaliar, por meio de revisão sistemática e metanálise, se os pacientes submetidos ao clareamento dental caseiro tiveram sua qualidade de vida melhorada. RESULTADOS: Duplicatas foram removidas e dois revisores selecionaram os estudos que atendiam aos critérios de inclusão. Dos 68 artigos em texto completo avaliados, 13 permaneceram e foram analisados para resultados iniciais. Destes, um artigo teve alto risco de viés, um teve baixo risco e os outros 11 tiveram risco incerto. Dos 13 artigos avaliados, sete fizeram parte da metanálise e apresentaram 87% de satisfação do paciente após o clareamento. CONCLUSÃO: Houve melhora na qualidade de vida dos pacientes submetidos ao clareamento dental caseiro.

The purpouse of the present study was to evaluate the effects of exposure to low doses of BPA on alveolar bone metabolism and periodontal tissues during induced tooth movement (MDI) in rodents. Forty-eight male rats were used, divided into 8 groups: Group 1.1: control, without MDI; Group 1.2: control submitted to MDI; Group 2.1: treated with 25µg of BPA, without MDI; Group 2.2: treated with 25µg of BPA, submitted to MDI; Group 3.1: treated with 250µg of BPA, without MDI; Group 3.2: treated with 250µg of BPA, with MDI; Group 4.1: treated with 2500µg of BPA, without MDI; Group 4.2: treated with 250µg of BPA, submitted to MDI. After the experimental period the animals were euthanized, the jaws removed and processed by routine histological techniques. The animals body weight did not differ at the end of the experimental period. Histological and morphometric analyzes showed that the animals submitted to MDI had a greater number of gaps of root resorption, areas of hyalinization and inflammatory infiltrate in the periodontal ligament, a greater amount of osteoclasts close to the alveolar bone in the region of the interradicular septum. BPA treatment did not change these parameters. It is concluded that the changes observed in the roots and periodontal tissues of animals with MDI and treated with BPA are due to the process of tooth movement. No changes that could be attributed to BPA treatment were observed. O bisfenol A é um polímero amplamente utilizado na fabricação de policarbonato e resinas epóxi, utilizados em diversos produtos de uso cotidiano. O objetivo do presente estudo foi avaliar os efeitos da exposição a baixas doses de BPA, sobre o metabolismo ósseo alveolar e tecidos periodontais, durante a movimentação dentária induzida (MDI) em roedores. Foram utilizados 48 ratos machos, separados em 8 grupos: Grupo 1.1: controle, sem MDI; Grupo 1.2: controle submetido a MDI; Grupo 2.1: tratado com 25µg de BPA, sem MDI; Grupo 2.2: tratado com 25µg de BPA, submetidos a MDI; Grupo 3.1: tratado com 250µg de BPA, sem MDI; Grupo 3.2: tratado com 250µg de BPA, com MDI; Grupo 4.1: tratado com 2500µg de BPA, sem MDI; Grupo 4.2: tratado com 250µg de BPA, submetidos a MDI. Após o período experimental os animais foram eutanasiados, as maxilas retiradas e processadas pelas técnicas histológicas de rotina. O peso corporal dos animais não diferiu ao final do período experimental. As análises histológicas e morfométricas demonstraram que os animais submetidos a MDI apresentaram um maior número de lacunas de reabsorção radicular, áreas de hialinização e infiltrado inflamatório no ligamento periodontal, maior quantidade de osteoclastos próximos ao osso alveolar na região do septo interradicular. O tratamento com BPA não alterou esses parâmetros. Conclui-se que as alterações observadas nas raízes e nos tecidos periodontais dos animais com MDI e tratados com BPA são decorrentes do processo de movimentação dentária. Nenhuma alteração que pudesse ser atribuída ao tratamento com BPA foi observada.

However, countries like Brazil did not authorize the importation and use of Kybella® in national territory, which opened precedents for manipulation laboratories to produce and market 1% sodium deoxycholate for the same purpose. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the efficacy and possible immediate and late side effects produced by repeated subcutaneous injections of 1% sodium deoxycholate from the Brazilian laboratory BIOMETIL in the subcutaneous tissue of rats, as well as to assess whether there are similarities in results when compared to previous studies that analyzed the behavior from Kybella. METHODS: 50 male Wistar rats divided into two groups of 25 animals were treated. A control group to which 15mg/kg of sterile saline solution was administered and a treated group, which received subcutaneous injections of 1% sodium deoxycholate at 15mg/kg from the BIOMETIL laboratory. Both groups received 3 doses of substances with an interval of 7 days between each session and were euthanized 24hrs, 7 days, 30 days, 60 days and 90 days after the last application. Samples of the injected tissue were removed, fixed in formalin, embedded in paraplast, sectioned at 5 µm and stained with hematoxylin and eosin. Histological analyzes were performed, evaluating the presence of tissue necrosis, inflammatory process and fibrosis, morphology and number of adipocytes. CONCLUSION: Biometil sodium deoxycholate 1% presented adverse effects similar to those presented by Kybella in its histological studies, causing intense local inflammation with gradual remission over time, leading to cell lysis and adipose tissue necrosis, reduction in diameter and number of adipocytes. As a side effect, the presence of focal alopecia was observed in the treated groups. INTRODUÇÃO: O deoxicolato de sódio vem sendo muito utilizado para dissolução enzimática do compartimento de gordura submentual, sendo o Kybella® o produto padrão ouro utilizado mundialmente. Entretanto, países como o Brasil não autorizaram importação e uso do Kybella® em território nacional, o que abriu precedentes para laboratórios de manipulação produzirem e comercializarem o deoxicolato de sódio a 1% para o mesmo objetivo. OBJETIVOS: Avaliar a eficácia e possíveis efeitos colaterais imediatos e tardios produzidos por repetidas injeções subcutâneas de deoxicolato de sódio 1% do laboratório brasileiro BIOMETIL no tecido subcutâneo de ratos, bem como avaliar se há similaridades de resultados quando comparado com estudos prévios que analisaram o comportamento do Kybella. METODOLOGIA: Foram tratados 50 ratos Wistar machos divididos em dois grupos de 25 animais. Grupo controle para qual foi administrada solução salina estéril a 15mg/kg e grupo e grupo tratado, que recebeu injeções subcutâneas de deoxicolato de sódio 1% a 15mg/kg do laboratório BIOMETIL. Os dois grupos receberam 3 doses das substâncias com intervalo de 7 dias entre cada sessão e foram eutanasiados 24hrs, 7 dias, 30 dias, 60 dias e 90 dias após a última aplicação. Amostras do tecido injetado foram retiradas, fixadas em formol, incluídas em paraplast , seccionadas a 5 µm e coradas com hematoxilina e eosina. Foram realizadas análises histológicas, avaliando presença de necrose tecidual, processo inflamatório e fibrose, morfologia e número de adipócitos. CONCLUSÃO: O desoxicolato de sódio 1 % Biometil apresentou efeitos adversos semelhantes aos apresentados por Kybella em seus estudos histológicos, causando inflamação local intensa com remissão gradativa ao longo do tempo, levando à lise celular e necrose de tecido adiposo, diminuição do diâmetro e do número de adipócitos.Como efeito colateral foi observado presença de alopecia focal nos grupos tratados.

These changes result in the obliteration of microvessels, collagen buildup leading to skin tightening and damage to the gastrointestinal tract, kidneys, lungs, heart and oral cavity. Epidemiological studies in Brazil regarding systemic sclerosis are scarce and reports on orofacial changes, the vast majority, come from the international literature. The objective of this study was to determine the incidence and prevalence, clinical, laboratory tests, therapeutic approach and orofacial manifestations of all patients diagnosed with SSc in the western region of Paraná. Data were collected from August 2019 to August 2020 in six private rheumatology clinics, in a regional specialty center, in the municipal specialty center and in the specialty clinic of the Hospital Universitário do Oeste do Paraná. After the epidemiological survey, those chosen were chosen to participate in the investigation of possible orofacial manifestations, such as: hyposalivation, presence of telangiectasia, microstomy, presence of caries and periodontal disease. A survey identified 57 (100%) patients diagnosed with SSc in the western region of Paraná, and of these, 30 (52,63%) were residents of Cascavel/PR. This allowed the calculation of the incidence, estimated at 1.2 cases/100,000 inhabitants/year, using the one diagnosed in the year of the survey, while the prevalence (prevails with all patients) was 9 cases /100,000 inhabitants. Most patients were female (90%) and the mean age was 42.5 ± 17.22 years. The most frequently reported clinical feature was Raynaud's phenomenon (86.67%), followed by skin thickening (70%). The limited SS was more identified by physicians (60%) and the ANA exam responded in 86.66% of the cases. In the investigation of orofacial changes, six patients agreed to participate. Of these, 50% had very low hyposalivation, all of which had telangiectasias and periodontal disease. Of those that allowed evaluation of mouth opening, 50% were considered microstomes. The CPO-d index was 21.16, while the mean plaque and dental calculus index were 0.37 and 0.23, respectively. This study emphasizes and confirms the importance of epidemiological studies of autoimmune diseases and that despite possible biases, the data found are in agreement with other parts of the world. Higher education presents a great challenge for physicians and dentists, in terms of diagnosis and impact on oral health and quality of life, requiring further investigations and a larger sample. A esclerose sistêmica (ES) é uma desordem crônica e heterogênea, geralmente caracterizada por alterações vasculares, inflamatórias e fibróticas na pele e em vários órgãos internos devido a disfunção de três elementos principais: fibroblastos, células endoteliais e sistema imune. Essas mudanças resultam na obliteração de microvasos, acúmulo de colágeno que levam ao endurecimento da pele e danos no trato gastrointestinal, rins, pulmões, coração e cavidade oral. Os estudos epidemiológicos no Brasil referentes à esclerose sistêmica são escassos e relatos sobre alterações orofaciais, a grande maioria, são provenientes da literatura internacional. O objetivo desse trabalho foi determinar a incidência e a prevalência, características clínicas, exames laboratoriais, conduta terapêutica e manifestações orofaciais de todos os pacientes diagnosticados com ES na região oeste do Paraná. Os dados foram coletados de agosto de 2019 a agosto de 2020 em seis clínicas reumatológicas particulares, em um centro regional de especialidades, no centro municipal de especialidades e no ambulatório de especialidades do Hospital Universitário do Oeste do Paraná. Após o levantamento epidemiológico, os elegíveis foram convidados a participar da investigação de possíveis manifestações orofaciais, como: hipossalivação, presença de telangiectasias, microstomia, presença de cáries e de doença periodontal. A pesquisa identificou 57 (100%) pacientes com o diagnóstico de ES na região oeste do Paraná, sendo que destes, 30 (52,63%) eram residentes em Cascavel/PR. Isso propiciou o cálculo da incidência, estimada em 1,2 casos/100.000 habitantes/ano, utilizando-se aqueles com diagnóstico no ano da pesquisa, enquanto a prevalência (calculada com todos os pacientes) ficou em 9 casos/100.000 habitantes. A maioria dos pacientes eram do sexo feminino (90%) e a média de idade foi de 42,5±17,22 anos. A característica clínica mais frequentemente relatada foi o fenômeno de Raynaud (86,67%), logo seguido do espessamento cutâneo (70%). A ES limitada foi mais identificada pelos médicos (60%) e o exame FAN reagiu em 86,66% dos casos. Na investigação das alterações orofaciais, seis pacientes aceitaram participar. Desses, 50% apresentaram hipossalivação muito baixa, sendo que todos possuíam telangiectasias e doença periodontal. Dos que permitiam avaliação da abertura bucal, 50% foram considerados micróstomos. O índice de CPO-d foi de 21,16, enquanto a média do índice de placa e de cálculo dental visíveis foram, respectivamente, de 0,37 e 0,23. Esse estudo vem ressaltar e ratificar a importância de estudos epidemiológicos de doenças autoimunes e que apesar de possíveis vieses, os dados encontrados estão de acordo com outros de diferentes partes do mundo. A ES apresenta um grande desafio para médicos e cirurgiões-dentistas, na questão diagnóstica e no impacto na saúde bucal e qualidade de vida, sendo necessárias maiores investigações e uma maior amostragem.

The present study aims at assessing the effectiveness of the use of A-PRF in root coverage and periodontal clinical parameters of patients with Cairo Type 1 gingival recession. Forty-four (44) bilateral Cairo Type 1 gingival recessions were selected. The recessions were split in two groups according to the surgical procedure made (n=44): SCTG: Subepithelial Connective Tissue Graft and A-PRF, using tunnel surgical technique in both sides. The patients were monitored on 0, 90, and 180 days for assessment of the recession height and width; probing depth and bleeding on probing; clinical attachment level; keratinized tissue band width; thickness of keratinized gingival tissue and sensitivity level. The data obtained were initially analyzed and assessed with SHAPIRO-WILK test for normality and later ANOVA and TUKEY tests were used for normal data, or KRUSKALL-WALLIS and DUNN test for non-normal data. For analysis of sensitivity parameter, the test chosen was KRUSKALL-WALLIS and DUNN, with 5% significance level. In the analysis across groups the Student’s t-test was conducted. Both groups presented improvement in periodontal parameters, however without significant statistical difference between them, which suggests that A-PRF can be an alternative to SCTG in root coverage surgeries of Cairo type 1 recession. O uso de Fibrina Rica em Plaquetas advanced (A- PRF) vem demonstrando bons resultados na cirurgia plástica periodontal para o tratamento de recessões gengivais. Este estudo tem por objetivo avaliar a efetividade do uso do A-PRF no recobrimento radicular e nos parâmetros clínicos periodontais de pacientes portadores de recessão gengival Tipo I de Cairo. Foram selecionadas 44 recessões gengivais Tipo 1 de Cairo bilaterais. As recessões foram divididas em dois grupos de acordo com o procedimento cirúrgico realizado (n=44): ETCS: Enxerto de Tecido Conjuntivo Subepitelial e A-PRF, utilizando a técnica cirúrgica de tunelização em ambos os lados. Os pacientes foram acompanhados aos 0, 90 e 180 dias para avaliação da altura e largura da recessão; Profundidade de sondagem e Sangramento à Sondagem; Nível de inserção clínica; Largura da faixa de tecido queratinizado; Espessura do tecido gengival queratinizado e Grau de sensibilidade. Os dados obtidos foram analisados e avaliados inicialmente por meio do teste de SHAPIRO-WILK para normalidade e posteriormente, utilizado o teste de ANOVA e TUKEY para dados normais ou Teste KRUSKALL-WALLIS e DUNN para dados não normais. Para análise do parâmetro de sensibilidade, o teste de escolha foi o de KRUSKALL-WALLIS e DUNN, com nível de significância de 5%. Na análise entre grupos foi realizado o teste T de STUDENT. Ambos os grupos apresentaram melhora nos parâmetros periodontais, porém sem diferença estatística significante entre eles, o que sugere que o A-PRF pode ser uma alternativa ao ECTS nas cirurgias de recobrimento radicular de recessões tipo I de Cairo.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the gingival inflammatory profile of patients with COVID-19 admitted to the COVID ward of the Western Paraná State University Hospital (HUOP) in Cascavel, Paraná, through clinical research with quantitative analysis. The collection of patient data, such as age, gender, exams, and health history, was performed by searching the hospital information system - Tasy®. After being evaluated according to the inclusion criteria, the patients were divided into two groups: patients with respiratory failure without a diagnosis of COVID-19 (control group) and patients with respiratory failure diagnosed with COVID-19 (case group). Hematological data were collected, and a clinical examination was performed to evaluate the plaque index, probing depth, clinical level of insertion and bleeding on probing, and gingival crevicular fluid was collected to analyze the amount of fluid. A reduction in the periodontal inflammatory profile of COVID-19 patients was observed; however, dexamethasone therapy in this group may have led to suppression of periodontal inflammation. Embora não esteja totalmente esclarecida, tem se estudado o impacto da doença periodontal na COVID-19 porque poderia aumentar a gravidade dos casos positivos para o vírus, causando superinfecção bacteriana, hiper responsividade do hospedeiro e superestimulação do sistema imunológico. O objetivo desse trabalho foi avaliar o perfil inflamatório gengival de pacientes com COVID-19 internados na UTI do Hospital Universitário do Oeste do Paraná - Cascavel/PR, através de uma pesquisa clínica com análise quantitativa. O levantamento dos dados do paciente como: idade, sexo, exames e histórico de saúde foi realizado mediante busca no sistema de informação do hospital - Tasy®. Após avaliados de acordo com os critérios de inclusão foram divididos em dois grupos: pacientes com insuficiência respiratória sem diagnóstico de COVID 19 (grupo controle) e pacientes com insuficiência respiratória com diagnóstico de COVID-19 (grupo caso). Foram coletados dados de exames hematológicos e realizado um exame clínico para avaliação de: índice de placa, profundidade de sondagem, nível clínico de inserção e sangramento à sondagem, além coleta de fluido crevicular gengival para análise da quantidade de fluido. Observou-se uma redução do perfil inflamatório periodontal de pacientes com COVID-19, todavia a terapia com dexametasona nesse grupo pode ter levado à supressão da inflamação periodontal.

Different thermoplastic materials can be used in their manufacture, and their biomechanical characteristics can be influenced by their properties. Furthermore this study aimed to identify factors that influence the physical properties of commercially available thermoplastic materials commonly used by orthodontists.Methods: Four different plastics used for the production of aesthetic orthodontic aligners were selected: ACE 035 Essix, C+ Essix, Crystal 0.75, Crystal 1.0. All materials were analyzed before and after thermoplasticization. The materials were divided into 8 groups with 20 specimens each. A traction test was performed, and the following variables were analyzed: elastic deformation, Young modulus, and fracture behavior.Results: The greatest elastic deformation was found in the groups with 100% PETG in the composition, opposing the groups that have polypropylene in the composition, with the lowest stretch tension. Young's modulus for groups without PETG in the composition had lower values. On the other hand, groups with PETG had higher values. The materials that have PETG in the composition, showed, for the most part, brittle fracture. Different from the material with Polypropylene, which presented ductile fracture, in its entirety. Conclusions: The mechanical properties of thermoplastic materials used in the manufacture of orthodontic aligners should be evaluated after thermoforming. The materials with PETG showed higher elastic deformation and greater Young modules than the groups with polypropylene. Regarding the type of fracture, the composition of the plastic was also determinant in relation to the behavior of plastics under mechanical stress. Os alinhadores foram introduzidos na Ortodontia como uma alternativa inovadora para os aparelhos fixos. Diferentes materiais termoplásticos podem ser empregados na sua fabricação e as características biomecânicas podem ser influenciadas por suas propriedades. Por isso, o objetivo deste estudo foi comparar a resistência mecânica de materiais termoplásticos comercialmente disponíveis e comumente utilizados pelos ortodontistas para a confecção de alinhadores in office. Métodos: Quatro diferentes plásticos utilizados para a fabricação de alinhadores ortodônticoss foram selecionados: ACE 035 Essix, C+ Essix, BioArt Cristal 0.75, BioArt Cristal 1.0. Todos os materiais foram analisados antes e após a termoplastificação. Os materiais foram divididos em 8 grupos com 20 espécimes cada. Um teste de tração foi realizado e foram analisadas as seguintes variáveis: deformação elástica (DE), módulo de Young e comportamento de fratura. Resultados: A maior deformação elástica foi encontrada nos grupos com 100% de PETG na composição (BioArt). Contrapondo os grupos que apresentam o Polipropileno na composição (C+), no qual houve a menor DE. O módulo de Young para os grupos sem PETG na composição, apresentaram menores valores (ACE 035 e C+). Por outro lado, os grupos com PETG na composição, apresentaram valores maiores. Os materiais que possuem PETG na composição, apresentaram, em sua maioria, fratura frágil. Diferente do material C+, que apresentou fratura dúctil, em sua totalidade. Conclusões: As propriedades mecânicas dos materiais termoplásticos usados na fabricação de alinhadores ortodônticos devem ser avaliadas após a termoformação. Os materiais com PETG apresentaram maior deformação elástica e maiores módulos de Young do que os grupos com polipropileno. Em relação ao tipo de fratura, a composição do plástico também foi determinante com relação ao comportamento dos plásticos sob o stress mecânico.

The goal of this work was to carry out a retrospective descriptive study on digital panoramic radiographs taken at the State University of Western Paraná – UNIOESTE to assess the relationship between systemic risk factors of patients and mandibular bone density. Also adapt the software BmA-DDX - Bone Microarchitecture by Digital Dentistry X-RAY - System for the Evaluation of Bone Microarchitecture of digital dental radiography for possible association with bone densitometric diagnosis. Panoramic radiographic images were obtained from the Radiology Laboratory at Unioeste, between 2017 and 2021. Two hundred and sixty-three medical records of patients who had digital panoramic radiographs and complete medical records were used in this study. The Subepithelial Connective Tissue Graft (ETCS) associated with the Coronary Positioned Flap (RPC) is considered the gold standard in the treatment of gingival recessions, however the use of Platelet Rich Fibrin - PRF has been showing good results in gingival plastic surgery. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the efficacy of Advanced Platelet Rich Fibrin (A-PRF) used in combination with RPC and to compare with the ETCS use also associated with RPC in Cairo type 1 gingival recessions. Forty recessions were selected, 20 of which belong to the RPC + A-PRF group (test group) and 20 to the RPC + ETCS group. Height of gingival recession, height and thickness of the inserted gingiva, probing depth, level of clinical insertion and tooth sensitivity were evaluated at the beginning and 6 months after the surgery. There was a gain in gingival height of 1.45 ± 0.96mm in the RPC + ETCS group and 1.04 ± 0.95mm in the RPC + A-PRF group, with a coverage of 54.3% in the test group and 73% in the control group. The epigenetic mechanisms linked to this association are involved in development programming, in the context of the Developmental Origins of Health and Disease (DOHaD). Among these diseases we have obesity, which is a worldwide public health problem and a risk factor for several diseases, including periodontal disease. The objective of this study is to evaluate the periodontal tissues of the female offspring of obese mothers submitted to experimental periodontitis. For that, twenty female pups of Wistar rats were selected, half of the pups received during the first five days of life subcutaneous injections in the cervical region of 4g / Kg / day of monosodium glutamate (MSG group, n = 10) and the other half received hyperosmotic saline injections, 1.25g / kg / day (CTL group, n = 10). At 70 days of life, both groups were subdivided into two (n = 5) according to the induction of experimental periodontal disease by ligation: control with ligation (CTL-CL), control without ligation (CTL-SL), MSG with ligation (MSG-CL) and MSG without ligation (MSG-SL). Seven days after induction of periodontal disease, CTLs and MSGs were crossed with male control rats (1 male to 2 females). After weaning offspring, the mothers were weighed and euthanized. The offspring (1st generation - F1) were then named according to the treatment given to the mothers: CTL-CL-F1, CTL-SL-F1-, MSG-CL-F1 and MSG-SL-F1 (all n = 12). At 70 days of age, 6 animals from each group of female offspring were submitted to ligation. At the end of the experimental period (100 days), all animals were weighed and euthanized. The jaws were removed, fixed in 10% formaldehyde for 24 hours, decalcified and processed for histological and radiological techniques. The offspring of control mothers with periodontitis (CTL-CL-F1-CL, CTL-CL-F1-SL) showed a significant increase in body weight and the Lee index when compared with the CTL-SL-F1-SL group. In the offspring of obese mothers without periodontal disease (MSG-SL-F1-SL), higher body weight and Lee's index were observed when compared to the offspring of control mothers without periodontal disease (CTL-SL-F1-SL). In the histomorphometry of gingival tissues, the MSG-CL-F1-CL group showed an inflammatory process potentiated in the protection periodontium in relation to the CTL-CL-F1-CL group. Radiographically, it was observed that pups in the MSG-CL-F1-CL group had less alveolar bone loss when compared to animals in the MSG-SL-F1-CL groups or with the CTL-CL-F1-CL group. The obese groups MSG-CL-F1-CL, MSG-CL-F1-SL and MSG-SL-F1-CL showed a significant increase in osteocytes and osteoblasts when compared with groups CTL-CL-F1-CL, CTL-CL-F1 -SL and CTL-SL-F1-CL. Still, we found that regardless of the ligature in the offspring, the pups of obese mothers had smaller areas of root resorption. We conclude that maternal obesity and periodontitis increase adiposity and alters the thickness of the gingival epithelium and connective tissue of female offspring. In addition, maternal hypothalamic obesity performs a protective role, decreasing alveolar bone loss, reducing external root resorption and increasing the amount of alveolar bone cells in the offspring. A programação fetal ou metabólica propõe que o ambiente intrauterino ou o período da infância pode modular o controle fisiológico e a homeostase, aumentando a suscetibilidade a doenças crônicas ao longo da vida. Os mecanismos epigenéticos ligados a essa associação estão envolvidos na programação do desenvolvimento, no contexto das Origens Desenvolvimentistas da Saúde e Doença (DOHaD). Dentre essas doenças temos a obesidade, que é um problema de saúde pública mundial e um fator de risco para diversas doenças, dentre elas, a doença periodontal. O objetivo deste estudo é avaliar os tecidos periodontais da prole feminina de mães obesas submetidas à periodontite experimental. Para tanto, vinte filhotes fêmeas de ratos Wistar foram selecionadas, metade dos filhotes recebeu durante os cinco primeiros dias de vida injeções subcutâneas na região cervical de 4g/Kg/dia de glutamato monossódico (grupo MSG, n=10) e a outra metade recebeu injeções de solução salina hiperosmótica, 1,25g/Kg/dia (grupo CTL, n=10). Aos 70 dias de vida, ambos os grupos foram subdivididos em dois (n=5) de acordo com a indução da doença periodontal experimental por ligadura: controle com ligadura (CTL CL), controle sem ligadura (CTL-SL), MSG com ligadura (MSG-CL) e MSG sem ligadura (MSG-SL). Sete dias após a indução da doença periodontal foram realizados os cruzamentos das ratas CTLs e MSGs com ratos machos controles (1 macho para 2 fêmeas). Após o desmame da prole, as mães foram pesadas e eutanasiadas. A prole (1ª geração – F1) foi então denominada conforme o tratamento dado as mães: CTL-CL-F1, CTL-SL-F1-, MSG-CL-F1 e MSG-SL-F1 (todos n=12). Aos 70 dias de vida, 6 animais de cada grupo da prole feminina foram submetidos à ligadura. Ao final do período experimental (100 dias), todos os animais foram pesados e eutanasiados. As mandíbulas foram retiradas, fixadas em formaldeído a 10% por 24h, descalcificadas e processadas para técnicas histológicas e radiológicas. Os filhotes de mães controles com periodontite (CTL-CL-F1-CL, CTL-CL-F1-SL) apresentaram aumento significativo do peso corporal e do índice Lee quando comparados com o grupo CTL-SL-F1- SL. Na prole de mães obesas sem doença periodontal (MSG-SL-F1-SL) foi observado maior peso corporal e índice de Lee quando comparados com os filhotes de mães controle sem doença periodontal (CTL-SL-F1-SL). Na histomorfometria dos tecidos gengivais, o grupo MSG-CL F1-CL apresentou processo inflamatório potencializado no periodonto de proteção em relação ao grupo CTL-CL-F1-CL. Radiograficamente, observou-se que filhotes do grupo MSG-CL-F1- CL apresentaram menor perda óssea alveolar quando comparados com os animais dos grupos MSG-SL-F1-CL ou com o grupo CTL-CL-F1-CL. Os grupos obesos MSG-CL-F1-CL, MSG CL-F1-SL e MSG-SL-F1-CL apresentaram aumento significativo de osteócitos e osteoblastos quando comparados com grupos CTL-CL-F1-CL, CTL-CL-F1-SL e CTL-SL-F1-CL. Ainda, verificamos que independente da ligadura na prole, os filhotes de mães obesas apresentaram menores áreas de reabsorção radicular. Concluímos que a obesidade e a periodontite materna aumentam a adiposidade e alteram as espessuras do epitélio gengival e do tecido conjuntivo da prole feminina. Além disso, a obesidade hipotalâmica materna, desempenha função protetora, diminuindo a perda óssea alveolar, reduzindo a reabsorção radicular externa e aumentando a quantidade de células ósseas alveolares na prole.

Aim: To evaluate the effect of açaí on the color variation and roughness of a resin-modified glass ionomer cement (CIVmr). Design: Seventy-five Vitremer discs (2 mm high, 8 mm in diameter) were divided into 3 experimental groups (n = 25): artificial saliva, sorbet and açaí juice. They were immersed in 6 mL of the solution for 15 min, 3x / day (30 min interval) for 14 days. The roughness variation (ΔR) and the color change (ΔE) (CIELAB) analyzed before and after immersion. Statistical analysis: ΔR was submitted to ANOVA 1 criterion on ranks, followed by the Bonferroni post-test. For ΔE the ANOVA 1 criterion was applied, followed by the Tukey post-test. Results: Absence of statistical difference between all groups (p = 0.666) for the variable ΔR. There was a statistically significant difference for ΔE between the artificial saliva and juice groups (p = 0.002) and between juice and sorbet (p = 0.019). Conclusions: The sorbet and açaí juice did not change the roughness of the CIVmr. All means caused clinically unacceptable staining, greater for the juice. Materiais e métodos: Setenta e cinco discos (2 mm altura, 8 mm de diâmetro) do Vitremer foram divididos em 3 grupos experimentais (n=25): saliva artificial, sorbet e suco de açaí. Foram imersos em 6 mL da solução por 15 min, 3x/dia (intervalo de 30 min) por 14 dias. A variação de rugosidade (ΔR) e da alteração de cor (ΔE) (CIELAB) analisadas antes e após a imersão. Thus, the present study evaluated histologically how pulp changes in molar of rats with testosterone deficiency that occurred with induced tooth movement, defining a better understanding of the biological aspects of the pulp. 32 Wistar rats separated into four experimental groups were used, with 8 animals in each: G1 - animals in the control group, without experimental manipulation; G2 - composed of animals submitted to bilateral orchidectomy; G3 - animals submitted to the technique of induced tooth movement (MDI) and G4 - constituted by castrated animals submitted to MDI. For the induction of MDI, a nickel-titanium (NiTi) spring was used, exerting a 50cN magnitude force on the upper first molar. Seven days after the installation of the MDI device, the animals were euthanized, the jaws were dissected and fixed in 10% formalin for 24 hours and then processed by routine histological techniques, included in Paraplast, sectioned at 7 um and stained with hematoxylin and eosin for performing pulp analysis under optical microscopy. The efficiency of the force and the proof of tooth movement was evaluated by measuring the distance between the first and second molars, at the level of the cemento-enamel junction. The groups were evaluated histologically for the pattern of cellularity, presence of dystrophic and hemodynamic changes in the dental pulp. The installation of the MDI device was effective in inducing tooth movement in animals in groups G3 and G4, which differed from each other, with a higher rate of movement in the group submitted to castration associated with MDI (G4). Histologically, in the comparative analysis between groups, the pulp of animals from groups G1 and G2, groups that were not moved, presented histological characteristics typical of pulp tissue normality. No dystrophic changes were observed, such as necrosis, fibrosis, nodules or calcifications in the pulp of experimental animals that could be attributed to MDI. The animals with orthodontic movement, castrated or not, presented dilated and congested vessels, in addition to hyalinized vessels in the root and coronary pulp. However, there were no histological changes that could be attributed to testosterone deficiency. Thus, it can be concluded that, in the experimental model used in the present study, testosterone deficiency did not generate morphological and degenerative changes in the pulp during tooth movement. The vascular changes observed in animals result from the orthodontic process and are reversible. Considerando o aumento na demanda por tratamentos ortodônticos em pacientes adultos e idosos, com possíveis alterações hormonais decorrentes da idade, é necessário fundamentar a conduta clínica ortodôntica através de avaliações histológicas. Assim, o presente estudo avaliou histologicamente as alterações pulpares em molares de ratos com deficiência de testosterona submetidos à movimentação dentária induzida, visando um melhor entendimento sobre os aspectos biológicos da polpa. Foram utilizados 32 ratos Wistar separados em quatro grupos experimentais, com 8 animais em cada: G1 – animais do grupo controle, sem manipulação experimental; G2 – composto por animais submetidos a orquidectomia bilateral; G3 – animais submetidos a técnica da movimentação dentária induzida (MDI) e G4 – constituídos por animais castrados submetidos à MDI. Para a indução da MDI foi utilizada uma mola de níqueltitânio (NiTi), exercendo uma força de 50cN de magnitude sobre o primeiro molar superior. Sete dias após a instalação do dispositivo de MDI os animais foram eutanasiados, as maxilas foram dissecadas e fixadas em formol a 10% por 24 horas e em seguida processadas pelas técnicas histológicas de rotina, incluídas em Paraplast, seccionadas a 7 um e coradas com hematoxilina e eosina para a realização da análise pulpar em microscopia óptica. A eficiência da força e a comprovação do movimento dentário foi avaliado pela medida da distância entre o primeiro e segundo molar, ao nível da junção amelocementária. Os grupos foram avaliados histologicamente quanto ao padrão de celularidade, presença de alterações distróficas e hemodinâmicas na polpa dentária. A instalação do dispositivo de MDI foi efetivo em induzir a movimentação dentária nos animais dos grupos G3 e G4, que diferiram entre si, com taxa de movimentação maior no grupo submetido à castração associada a MDI (G4). Histologicamente, na análise comparativa entre os grupos, a polpa dos animais dos grupos G1 e G2, grupos não movimentados, apresentaram características histológicas típicas de normalidade do tecido pulpar. Não foram observadas alterações distróficas como necrose, fibrose, nódulos ou calcificações na polpa dos animais experimentais que pudessem ser atribuídas a MDI. Os animais com movimentação ortodôntica, castrados ou não, apresentaram vasos dilatados e congestos, além de vasos hialinizados na polpa radicular e coronária. Entretanto, não foram observadas alterações histológicas que pudessem ser atribuídas a deficiência de testosterona. Assim, pode-se concluir que, no modelo experimental utilizado no presente estudo, a deficiência de testosterona não gerou alterações morfológicas e degenerativas na polpa durante a movimentação dentária. As alterações vasculares observadas nos animais decorrem do processo ortodôntico e são reversíveis.

From the periodontal point of view, in the region of the fissure, a very shallow vestibule can be observed, the presence of cicatricial bridles, inadequate amount of keratinized mucosa, longer conjunctive insertion, irregularities in the dental arch, poorly developed bone structures and gingival recessions in the teeth. adjacent to the cleft, these changes affect the patients' ability to maintain adequate oral hygiene. Therefore, the aim of this study was to verify the prevalence and severity of periodontal disease in individuals with CLP. This is a study involving patients with CLP treated at the Center for Attention and Research in Craniofacial Anomalies (CEAPAC) of the Hospital Universitário do Oeste do Paraná (HUOP / UNIOESTE), in Cascavel / Pr. The patients were classified according to the type fissure and clinical examination were performed as measures of probing depth (PS), insertion level (NI), gingival index (IG), plaque index (IP), bleeding on probing (SS), width (LG) and keratinized tissue thickness (ETQ). The mean age of the patients obtained was 23.26 ± 9.64 years. In assessing family income, 53% reported receiving up to 1 minimum wage per person. The most prevalent type of cleft was the one involving the lip, socket and palate (LAP). In the evaluation of IP, IG, SS, ETQ and LG there was no statistically significant difference between the types of cleft or comparing the cleft region with an inferior arch. Regarding PS and clinical NI in the cleft region, patients with LAP cleft had a significant increase in relation to the others. The results close to cleft PS and NI, higher when compared to a lower arch. It was observed that a periodontal disease in patients with cleft lip and palate occurs similarly to other populations, and the presence of the cleft can be an aggravating factor for the prevalence and severity of the disease. A fissura labiopalatina (FLP) constitui a malformação mais comum diagnosticada na região craniofacial de recém-nascidos vivos, resultam de falhas na fusão anatômica dos processos faciais. Sob o ponto de vista periodontal, na região da fissura, pode ser observado um vestíbulo bastante raso, presença de bridas cicatriciais, quantidade inadequada de mucosa queratinizada, inserção conjuntiva mais longa, irregularidades no arco dental, estruturas ósseas mal desenvolvidas e recessões gengivais nos dentes adjacentes a fissura, essas alterações afetam a capacidade dos pacientes de manter a higiene bucal adequada. Sendo assim o objetivo deste estudo foi verificar a prevalência e severidade da doença periodontal em indivíduos portadores de FLP. Trata-se de um estudo envolvendo pacientes com FLP atendidos no Centro de Atenção e Pesquisa em Anomalias Craniofaciais (CEAPAC) do Hospital Universitário do Oeste do Paraná (HUOP/UNIOESTE), em Cascavel/Pr. Os pacientes foram classificados de acordo com o tipo de fissura e no exame clínico foram realizadas as medidas de profundidade de sondagem (PS), nível de inserção (NI), índice gengival (IG), índice de placa (IP), Sangramento à sondagem (SS), largura (LG) e espessura do tecido queratinizado (ETQ). A média da idade dos pacientes avaliados foi de 23,26 ± 9,64 anos. Na avaliação da renda familiar, 53% relataram receber até 1 salário mínimo por pessoa. O tipo de fissura mais prevalente foi a envolvendo lábio, alvéolo e palato (LAP). Na avaliação do IP, IG, SS, ETQ e LG não houve diferenças estatisticamente significantes entre os tipos de fissura ou comparando a região da fissura com a arcada inferior. Em relação à PS e NI clínica na região da fissura, os pacientes com fissura de LAP tiveram um aumento significativo em relação aos demais. Os dentes próximos a fissura apresentaram índices de PS e NI significativamente maiores quando comparado com a arcada inferior. Observou-se que a doença periodontal em indivíduos portadores de fissura labiopalatina ocorre de maneira semelhante a outras populações, sendo que a presença da fissura pode ser um fator agravante para prevalência e severidade da doença.

The structural and functional normality of these tissues seems to be influenced by local and systemic factors, and the clinical detection of changes depends on the type, duration and intensity of the stimulus applied. Studies reveal the occurrence of several biological reactions during induced tooth movement, including increased or reduced blood flow and cellular changes. In addition, the patient's hormonal status has a great impact on the orthodontist's conduct, since it can directly influence the success of the treatment. Estrogen is the main female steroid sex hormone and its reduction is associated with a decrease in alveolar bone mineral density, which can significantly increase the speed of tooth movement and can also influence the occurrence of root resorption. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of ovariectomy associated with dental trauma, and its influences on the histological structure of the pulp dentin complex during induced tooth movement in rats. 48 rats (Wistar) were used, separated into eight experimental groups, with 6 animals in each: Group 1 - control (G1): composed of animals that were not submitted to any experimental procedure; Group 2 (G2): composed of animals submitted to dentoalveolar trauma (DT); Group 3 (G3): composed of animals submitted to ovariectomy (OVX); Group 4 (G4): composed of animals submitted to DT and OVX; Group 5 (G5): composed of animals submitted to induced tooth movement (IDT); Group 6 (G6): composed of animals submitted to IDT and DT; Group 7 (G7): composed of animals submitted to ITM and OVX and Group 8 (G8): composed of animals submitted to ITM, DT and OVX. At 70 days of life, 15 animals from each group were submitted to periodontal disease and distributed into four experimental groups: control with no ligature (CTRL NL), control with a ligature (CTRL WL), MSG with no ligature (MSG NL), and MSG with a ligature (MSG WL). The four groups of females reproduced with control rats (2:1 ratio). Offspring were classified into four groups, according to the mothers' treatment: CTRL NL-F1, CTRL WL-F1, MSG NL-F1, and MSG WL-F1. At 120 days of age, the offspring were euthanized. Hemimandibles were collected for histological, morphological, and radiographic analysis and a portion of gingival tissue for analysis by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) of cytokines IL-6, IL-10, IL-17, and TNF-alpha. Data were assessed using Two-way ANOVA and Tukey's test. Results: There were no changes related to maternal hypothalamic obesity associated with periodontal disease in alveolar bone loss in the male offspring of F1 rats at 120 days. Conclusion: Hypothalamic obesity and maternal periodontal disease did not affect the body and plasma parameters of their male offspring in the first generation, demonstrating that there was no effect of fetal programming on these parameters. Objetivo: Verificar a influência da obesidade induzida pelo tratamento neonatal com glutamato monossódico (MSG) e da doença periodontal materna, associadas ou não, sobre a perda óssea mandibular da prole masculina na vida adulta. Materiais e métodos: Foram obtidas do biotério central, 20 fêmeas Wistar prenhas. Após o nascimento, os animais foram separados aleatoriamente em dois grupos. Metade dos filhotes fêmeas recebeu durante os cinco primeiros dias de vida injeções subcutâneas na região cervical de 4g/Kg/dia de glutamato monossódico (grupo MSG, n=30) e a outra metade recebeu 1.25/Kg/dia de solução salina hiperosmótica (grupo CTL, n=30). Todos os animais utilizados nos experimentos receberam água e ração padrão durante todo o período experimental. Aos 70 dias de vida, 15 animais de cada grupo foram submetidos à doença periodontal e distribuídos em quatro grupos experimentais: controle sem ligadura (CTL SL), controle com ligadura (CTL CL), MSG sem ligadura (MSG SL) e MSG com ligadura (MSG CL). Os quatro grupos de fêmeas foram colocadas para cruzamento com ratos controles (proporção 2:1). A prole foi classificada em quatro grupos: CTL SL-F1 (prole de mães controle sem ligadura), CTL CLF1 (prole de mães controle com ligadura), MSG SL-F1 (prole de mães obesas-MSG sem ligadura), MSG CL-F1 (prole de mães obesas-MSG com ligadura). Aos 120 dias de vida, a prole foi eutanasiada. Foram coletadas as hemimandíbulas para análise histológica, morfológica e radiográfica e uma porção de tecido gengival ao redor dos dentes para análise por Ensaio de Imunoabsorção Acoplado a Enzimas (ELISA) da presença das citocinas IL-6, IL-10, IL-17 e TNF-alfa. Os dados foram avaliados através dos testes ANOVA de duas vias e Pos teste Tukey. Resultados: Não foram evidenciadas alterações relacionadas à obesidade hipotalâmica materna associada à doença periodontal na perda óssea alveolar na prole masculina de ratos F1 com 120 dias. Conclusão: A obesidade hipotalâmica e a doença periodontal materna não afetou parâmetros corporais e plasmáticos de sua prole masculina na primeira geracao, demonstrando que não houve efeito da programação fetal sobre estes parâmetros.

Materials and methods: Two CIVMR were provided and handled according to each manufacturer Vitremer (3M (ESPE) / St Paul / United States) and Riva Light Cure (SDI / Victoria / Australia). The CHX was incorporated into the liquid of each material in concentrations of 05%, 1% and 2%. Specimens were made with 4 mm in diameter and 2 mm in thickness, and divided according to the concentration of CHX and storage time (2, 7 and 30 days) in a total of eight groups with n = 10. Making the CP were immersed in saline, stored at 37 ºC. After 2, 7 and 30 days, they were submitted to Knoop microhardness. Results: Regarding microhardness, in 2 days of storage the Riva Light Cure 2% concentration showed higher values. Vitremer revealed significant differences between 1 and 2%. MEV analysis indicated a smoother surface for Riva Light Cure 1% after 30 days. Conclusion: CHX did not affect the microhardness properties of the studied CIVs. Vitremer showed superior behavior in most concentrations compared to Riva Light Cure. MEV showed that the immersion time caused more changes in the surface than the addition of CHX. Avaliar o efeito da adição de digluconato de clorexidina (CHX) ao líquido do cimento de ionômero de vidro modificado por resina (CIVMR) quanto microdureza superfícial e MEV. Materiais e métodos: Dois CIVMR foram proporcionados e manipulados acordo com cada fabricante Vitremer (3M(ESPE) / St Paul /Estados Unidos) e Riva Light Cure (SDI/ Victoria/ Austrália). A CHX foi incorporada no líquido de cada material nas concentrações de 05%, 1% e 2%. Corpos-de-prova (CP) foram confeccionados com 4 mm de diâmetro e 2 mm de espessura e, divididos de acordo com a concentração de CHX e tempo de armazenamento (2, 7 e 30 dias) num total de oito grupos com n=10. Após confecção dos CP foram imersos em soro fisiológico, armazenados a 37 ºC. Após 2, 7 e 30 dias, submetidos microdureza Knoop. A análise eletrônica de varredura (MEV) foi feita após 7 e 30 dias. Resultados: Com relação à microdureza, em 2 dias armazenamento a concentração Riva Light Cure 2% apresentou valores mais elevados. Vitremer revelou diferenças significativas entre 1 e 2%. Análise por MEV indicou superfície mais lisa para Riva Light Cure 1% após 30dias. Conclusão: CHX não prejudicou as propriedades de microdureza de superfície dos CIVs estudados. Vitremer apresentou comportamento superior na maioria das concentrações em comparação com Riva Light Cure. Twenty molars were sectioned in the buccolingual direction to obtain 40 proximal enamel surfaces. These were planned, polished and randomly assigned to 4 groups (n = 10) according to acid etching ([Et], [no-Et]) and plasma treatment ([P], [no-P]): Et/P, Et/no-P, noEt/P, no-Et/no-P. 37% phosphoric acid gel was used for conditioning and plasma was applied on the enamel surface for 20 seconds by scanning mode. Afterwards, Scothbond Universal Adhesive [SBU] was actively applied and a composite resin block was incrementally built up (Filtek Z100, 3M ESPE). For this, 48 Wistar rats were divided into 8 groups (n = 6), having as variables the three different types of orthodontic forces: continuous (FC), interrupted continuous (FCI) and intermitent (FI), the presence or absence of trauma (CT or ST) and the presence or not orthodontic movement (CM or SM). The groups were arranged as follows: STFC, STFCI, STFI, CTFC, CTFCI, CTFI, CTSM and STSM (control group). Extrusive dislocation (LE) of the healthy upper right first molar was performed and after 15 days for periodontal reestablishment, the orthodontic springs were installed as devices to promote induced tooth movement and on the 14th day after the first activation, the amount of tooth movement was measured and euthanasia of the animals was performed for mounting the histological slides and histomorphometric evaluation. It is treated by antineoplastic therapies, which target malignant cells, preferably those in the mitosis phase. However, oral mucosa cells are in a similar state which leads to unwanted manifestations, especially in children and adolescents. This retrospective epidemiological study evaluated medical records of patients up to 19 years-old treated at the Cascavel Cancer Hospital UOPECCAN from 2000 to 2014 and assessed those who were treated by dentist. The following informations were collected: gender, age, race, patient comorbidities, family history of cancer, home status, type of cancer, treatment, diagnosis metastases, relapses and patient status. Informations about clinical dental examination were also collected. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, chi-square and survival (Kaplan-Meier) tests. The male gender (55.22 %), 1 to 4 years age group (36.32 %), white people (87.06 %) and urban domicile (81.59 %) were the most prevalent. There was no report on family history of cancer in 95 cases (47.03%); 58.91% denied comorbidities. Leukemia was the most prevalent (35.83%), followed by lymphomas (14.42%) and renal tumors (8.46%). Metastasis was present in 16.41% and 22.38% have relapsed. Most of them underwent chemotherapy itself (50.25%) or combined with another therapy (40.30%). One hundred and sixty extracted bovine incisors were used, and on each side of its longitudinally cleaved roots, 2 different cleaning analyzes were performed. On one side, cleaning analysis was performed, using stereomicroscopy to observe the removal of debris in an internal groove created to simulate grooves in the root canal, being filled with dentin powder; on the other, smear layer removal was evaluated in the different thirds of the roots, using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). Five cleaning protocols with 1% and 2.5% NaOCl were evaluated by the conventional irrigation technique (IC) or activated by: passive ultrasonic irrigation (PUI), continuous ultrasonic irrigation (CUI), passive ultrasonic irrigation with wireless ultrasonic device (UTX ) and low speed rotating plastic rod (ECL). The results showed that there were no significant differences in smear layer removal by different techniques, regardless of the third and NaOCl concentration. However, clinical practice has been varied, leaving doubts about the optimal dose and the number of injection points. The objective of this work is, therefore, to evaluate the effect of concentration and application points of botulinum toxin in the treatment of glabellar rhytids. Forty volunteers were randomly divided into 4 groups: G1: one injection point in procerus muscle (5U) and one injection point in corrugator muscle (5U); G2: one injection point in procerus muscle (5U) and two injection points in corrugator muscle (2.5U per point); G3: one injection point in procerus muscle (7U) and one injection point corrugator muscle (7U per point); G4: one injection point in procerus muscle (7U) and two injection points in corrugator muscle (5U per point). Participants were assessed at baseline and weeks 2, 8, 10 by the Wrinkle Scale Facial method. The results of this study suggest that at the dosages studied, 21U applied at one point per muscle is an effective dose for the treatment of the glabellar region, lasting 3 months. A toxina botulínica tem sido empregada de forma segura e eficaz para o tratamento das rítides glabelares. Entretanto, a prática clínica tem sido variada, permanecendo dúvidas sobre a dose ótima desejável bem como a quantidade de pontos de aplicação. O objetivo desse trabalho é, portanto, avaliar o efeito da concentração e dos pontos de aplicação da toxina botulínica na região glabelar sobre a diminuição das linhas de expressão. Quarenta voluntários foram randomicamente divididos em 4 grupos, a saber : G1: injetado um ponto de aplicação no músculo prócero com 5U e um ponto de aplicação em cada músculo corrugador com 5U por ponto; G2: um ponto de aplicação no prócero com 5U e dois pontos de aplicação em cada músculo corrugador com 2,5U em cada ponto; G3: injetado um ponto de aplicação no músculo prócero com 7U e um ponto de aplicação em cada músculo corrugador com 7U por ponto; G4: um ponto de aplicação no prócero com 7U e dois pontos de aplicação em cada músculo corrugador com 5U em cada ponto. Os participantes foram avaliados nos tempos baseline e nas semanas 2, 8, 10 pelo método Facial Wrinkle Scale. Os resultados desse estudo sugerem que entre as dosagens estudadas, 21 U aplicadas em um ponto por músculo é a dose mais efetiva para o tratamento da região glabelar, com durabilidade de 3 meses.

This trial evaluated the use prolonged of 5% potassium nitrate/0.2% sodium fluoride desensitizing agents ten days before and after in-office bleaching to avoid the TS. A parallel, placebo-controlled, triple-blind, randomized trial, was conducted on 115 healthy adults having teeth shade A2 or darker. The patients used 5% potassium nitrate/0,2% sodium fluoride desensitizing agents or placebo gel, for 10 days in a tray for 10 min, prior, during and two days after to the in-office bleaching (35% hydrogen peroxide). The primary outcome TS was recorded on VAS 0-10 and NRS 0-4 scales, during bleaching and in periods that ranged from 1-6 h, 12-18 h, 18-24 h and 24-48 h post-bleaching. The color was measured before and one month after dental bleaching with two visual shade guides (Vita Classical and Vita Bleachedguide) and Easyshade spectrophotometer. The primary outcome variable was absolute risk of TS. An intent-to-treat analysis was used to analyze data from all patients who were randomly assigned to receive the desensitizing and placebo gel. No significant difference (p = 0.66) in the absolute risk of TS between the desensitizing group (80%; 95% CI 69 to 89) and placebo group (88%; 95% CI 77 to 94) with a relative risk of 1.1; 95% CI 0.9 to 1.3. No significant differences between groups were observed in terms of intensity of TS and color change (p > 0.05) for any of scales. No adverse effect was observed. Este estudo avaliou o uso prolongado dos agentes dessensibilizantes nitrato de potássio 5%/fluoreto de sódio 0,2% dez dias antes e após o clareamento em consultório para evitar a SD. Um estudo paralelo, controlado por placebo, triplo-cego, randomizado, foi realizado em 115 adultos saudáveis com dentes com cor A2 ou mais escura. Os pacientes usaram nitrato de potássio 5%/fluoreto de sódio 0,2% ou gel placebo, durante 10 dias em uma moldeira por 10 min, antes, durante e dois dias após o clareamento em consultório (peróxido de hidrogênio 35%). O desfecho primário de SD foi registrado nas escalas VAS 0-10 e NRS 0-4, durante o clareamento e em períodos que variaram de 1-6 h, 12-18 h, 18-24 h e 24-48 h pós-clareamento. A cor foi medida antes e um mês após o clareamento dental com duas escalas visuais de cores (Vita Classical e Vita Bleachedguide) e espectrofotômetro Easyshade. A variável de desfecho primário foi o risco absoluto de SD. Materials and Methods: Samples were randomly divided into 7 experimental groups: Resin H ligature (H3D), designed by the authors of this study and produced in a 3D printer, with conventional bracket; Metal H ligature (HFM), with conventional bracket; Passive self-ligating bracket (SLP); “8” low friction unconventional elastic (LT8), with conventional bracket; Loose conventional metal ligature (MLS), with conventional bracket; Conventional metal ligature fully tightened (MLT), with conventional bracket; Convencional elastic ligature (CEL), with conventional bracket – control. All samples were subjected to mechanical static friction testing using the EMIC DL 2000 universal testing machine to get the maximum force value. Shapiro Wilk test was used to assess the normality requirement. Then the data were submitted to Analysis of Variance (NOVA), one way, and Tykey’s post test. Results: The results obtained showed lower friction value for HFM (0.002 Kg/F), SLP (0.003 Kg/F), e LT8 (0.004 Kg/F) – these did not differ statistically from each other. Followed by H3D (0.020 Kg/F), MLS (0.049 Kg/F), CEL (0.12 Kg/F) e MLT (0.21 Kg/F). Conclusions: The lowest friction value was found for the H metal ligature, which did not differ statistically with the passive self-ligating bracket. Materiais e Métodos: Foram confeccionadas 105 amostras divididas aleatoriamente em 7 grupos experimentais (n = 15): H3D - Ligadura “H” em resina, projetada pelos autores do presente estudo e produzida em impressora 3D, com braquete convencional; HFM - Ligadura “H” em metal fundido, com braquete convencional; SLP - Braquete Autoligável Passivo; LT8 - Elástico não convencional de baixo atrito “8”, com braquete convencional; MLS - Ligadura metálica convencional frouxa, com braquete convencional; MLT - Ligadura metálica convencional apertada totalmente, com braquete convencional; CEL - Ligadura elástica convencional, com braquete convencional - grupo controle. Todas as amostras foram submetidas ao ensaio mecânico de atrito estático através da máquina universal de ensaios a fim de obter o valor de força máxima. Aplicou-se inicialmente o teste de Shapiro Wilk para avaliar o requisito de normalidade dos dados. Estes foram submetidos então, a Análise de Variância (ANOVA), one way, seguido do pós teste de Tukey, p < 0.05. Resultados: Os resultados obtidos mostraram menor valor de atrito para HFM (0.002 Kg/F), SLP (0.003 Kg/F), e LT8 (0.004 Kg/F) – estes não diferindo estatisticamente entre si. Seguidos pela H3D (0.020 Kg/F), MLS (0.049 Kg/F), CEL (0.12 Kg/F) e MLT (0.21 Kg/F). Conclusões: O menor valor de atrito foi encontrado para a ligadura H em metal, esta não diferindo estatisticamente com o braquete autoligável passivo.

In the search for new biomaterials, in the dental area sericin is included in order to investigate its use as a direct pulp capping agent, an endodontic procedure that requires the use of biocompatible materials with antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, stimulating properties of sclerotic dentin and that provide protection to the pulp against thermoelectric and toxic stimuli. To date, calcium hydroxide (Ca (OH) 2) and mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) are considered gold standard. For this purpose, the unpublished study by Hartman et al. (2018) showed that sericin has an anti-inflammatory effect throughout the treatment. In order to increase the knowledge about the application of sericin in pulp protections, the present work proposes to carry out a review of the literature consulting, from February to April, 2019, different databases. To date there is evidence that sericin induces proliferation of new cells, an important aspect for the success of direct pulpal capping O emprego da sericina da seda na engenharia de tecidos nos últimos anos baseia-se em suas propriedades antioxidantes, efeito antitumoral, efeito mitogênico em células de mamíferos por exemplo na proliferação de queratinócitos e fibroblastos. Na busca por novos biomateriais, na área odontológica inclui-se a sericina no intuito de investigar seu uso como agente de capeamento pulpar direto, procedimento endodôntico que demanda a utilização de materiais biocompatíveis com propriedades antimicrobianas, anti-inflamatórias, estimulantes da formação de dentina esclerosada e que confiram proteção à polpa contra estímulos termoelétricos e tóxicos. Até o momento, são considerados padrão ouro o hidróxido de cálcio (Ca(OH)2) e o agregado de trióxido mineral (MTA). Para esta finalidade, o estudo inédito de Hartman et al,(2018) mostrou que a sericina apresenta efeito antinflamatório ao longo do tratamento. A fim de ampliar o conhecimento sobre a aplicação da sericina em proteções pulpares, o presente trabalho se propõe a realizar uma revisão da literatura consultando, no período de fevereiro a abril de 2019, diferentes bases de dados. Até o momento há evidências de que a sericina induz a proliferação de novas células, aspecto importante para o sucesso do capeamento pulpar direto.

A protein from the cocoon of the silkworm, fibroin, has shown promising results in healing, regeneration and attenuation of the inflammatory response in recent research, and has been mentioned as an excellent substitute for collagen. Its properties allow growth of neurons and axonal connections. These functions create a new use option for this material produced in large scale in Brazil. Tissue engineering emerges as an alternative to the usual treatment and can create a new protocol incorporating fibroin among materials of applications in dentistry, aimed at regeneration and non-repair. There is evidence that fibroin is a safe and efficient scaffold, having mechanical and biological properties that represent a possibility of tissue regenerator for dental use to constitute a viable alternative in the treatment of pulp exposures. The objective of this work was to compile, organize and present scientific articles published in literature databases that tested the silk fibroin in tissues and / or cells compatible with that found in the dentin / pulp complex, including studies that analyzed its interaction with several living tissues, aiming at those with similarities to those found in the pulp: bone, loose connective, nervous, in addition to isolated cells: fibroblasts and osteoblasts. This is a bibliographical review based on journals researched in the following databases: Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS), Brazilian Bibliography of Dentistry (BBO), Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO), Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE) and Portal CAPES, in the period of March 2017 June 2019. The literature has presented a consistent scientific basis of the regenerative potential of fibroin and the need for research to be carried out for comparison and possible effectiveness of the same as an alternative among the options of dental materials with great biological potential. A bioengenharia estuda a incorporação de materiais alternativos naturais que apresentem excelentes biocompatibilidade, bioatividade, ausência de toxicidade e propriedades físicas que simulem o ambiente in vivo, favorecendo a reparação, substituição ou melhoria de tecidos danificados. Uma proteína proveniente do casulo do bicho-da-seda, a fibroína, apresentou, em pesquisas recentes, resultados promissores no que tange à cicatrização, regeneração e atenuação da resposta inflamatória, além de ter sido mencionada como excelente substituto do colágeno. Suas propriedades permitem crescimento de neurônios e conexões axonais. Funções estas que criam uma nova opção de uso a este material produzido em larga escala no Brasil. A engenharia tecidual surge como alternativa ao tratamento usual e pode criar um novo protocolo incorporando a fibroína dentre os materiais de aplicações na odontologia, que visam regeneração e não reparação. Há evidências de que a fibroína é um scaffold seguro e eficiente, tendo propriedades mecânicas e biológicas que representam uma possibilidade de regenerador tecidual de uso odontológico para constituir uma alternativa viável no tratamento de exposições pulpares. In addition, the patient's hormonal status has a major impact on the orthodontist's behavior, as it can directly influence treatment efficiency. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of estrogen deficiency on the histological structure of periodontal tissues and root resorption during the induced tooth movement of molars of rats submitted to extrusive luxation. For this, 48 Wistar rats were used, separated into eight experimental groups, with 6 animals each, as follows: Group 1: control; Group 2: animals submitted to dentoalveolar trauma (DT); Group 3: animals submitted to ovariectomy (OVX); Group 4: animals submitted to DT+OVX; Group 5: animals submitted to induced tooth movement (ITM); Group 6: animals submitted to ITM+DT; Group 7: animals submitted to ITM+OVX and Group 8: animals that underwent ITM+DT+OVX. The tooth movement rate was significantly higher in the animals of the ITM+DT+OVX group when compared to the other groups. The ITM+DT and ITM+OVX groups presented higher tooth movement when compared to the OTM group. Periodontal, radicular and bone alterations were found mainly in the groups with tooth movement and trauma, and in the association of movement, trauma and ovariectomy. The DT and DT+OVX groups had the highest areas of root resorption when compared to the CTL and OVX groups. All groups with a tooth movement device presented areas of root resorption greater than the animals of the groups without tooth movement device. There were no significant differences in areas of root resorption in the comparison between the ITM+DT and ITM+OVX groups, however, both presented greater areas of root resorption when compared to the ITM group and smaller compared to the ITM+DT+OVX group. The ITM+DT+OVX group had the highest amounts of root resorption areas when compared to all experimental groups. We conclude that induced tooth movement associated with dentoalveolar trauma and estrogen deficiency induce a higher rate of tooth movement and a higher occurrence of root resorption. O sucesso da movimentação dentária em dentes traumatizados depende da severidade da injúria, sendo a reabsorção radicular, uma consequência indesejável e possível de ocorrer antes, durante e após o tratamento ortodôntico. Além disso, o status hormonal do paciente tem um grande impacto na conduta do ortodontista, uma vez que pode influenciar diretamente a eficiência do tratamento. Assim, o objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a influência da deficiência de estrógeno sobre a estrutura histológica dos tecidos periodontais e reabsorção radicular, durante a movimentação dentária induzida de molares de ratos submetidos à luxação extrusiva. Para isso foram utilizadas 48 ratas Wistar, separadas aleatoriamente em oito grupos experimentais, com 6 animais em cada, como segue: Grupo 1: controle; Grupo 2: animais submetidos ao trauma dentoalveolar (TD); Grupo 3: animais submetidos a ovariectomia (OVX); Grupo 4: animais submetidos ao TD+OVX; Grupo 5: animais submetidos a movimentação dentária induzida (MDI); Grupo 6: animais submetidos a MDI+TD; Grupo 7: animais submetidos a MDI+OVX e Grupo 8: animais que foram submetidos MDI+TD+OVX. A taxa de movimentação dentária foi significativamente maior nos animais do grupo MDI+TD+OVX quando comparado com os demais grupos. Os grupos MDI+TD e MDI+OVX apresentaram maior movimentação dentária quando comparados com o grupo MDI. Foram encontradas alterações periodontais, radiculares e ósseas principalmente nos grupos com movimentação dentária e trauma, e na associação movimentação, trauma e ovariectomia. Os grupos TD e TD+OVX apresentaram as maiores áreas de reabsorção radicular quando comparados com os grupos CTL e OVX. Todos os grupos com dispositivo de movimentação dentária apresentaram áreas de reabsorção radicular maiores que os animais dos grupos sem dispositivo de movimentação dentária. Não houve diferenças significativas de áreas de reabsorção radicular na comparação entre os grupos MDI+TD e MDI+OVX, porém, ambos apresentaram maiores áreas de reabsorção radicular quando comparados com o grupo MDI e menores na comparação com o grupo MDI+TD+OVX. O grupo MDI+TD+OVX apresentou as maiores quantidades de áreas de reabsorção radicular quando comparado com todos os grupos experimentais. Concluímos que a movimentação dentária induzida associada ao traumatismo dentoalveolar e a deficiência de estrógeno, induz a maior taxa de movimentação dentária e maior ocorrência de reabsorção radicular.

Information on hyaline areas, thickness of the periodontal ligament and bone conditions were also evaluated. Forty-eight Wistar rats were randomly divided into 8 groups (n = 6), according to the combination of factors (nL-C, nL-Ci, nL-I, LC, L-Ci, LI] and unmoved (nM) [L-nM e, sL-nM )]. The EL of the first right upper molar was made under force of 1500 cN for 10 seconds. After 15 days, TM was started with a force of 50 cN, which was characterized as Ci or I, respectively, when the spring remained fixed and passive until the next activation, or when it was removed between activations. On the 14th day, the amount of TM was measured, the animals were euthanized and the processed parts were cut at the apical level of the molars and stained with hematoxylin and eosin (HE). Testosterone (T) is the major male sex steroid hormone involved in the differentiation, sexual development and control of male reproductive functions. The decrease in T concentrations is associated with a decrease in alveolar bone mineral density, which can significantly increase the speed of tooth movement and its influence on bone and root resorption. Thus the objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of testosterone deficiency associated with dental trauma (DT) and its influence on bone and root resorption during induced tooth movement (ITM) in rats. For this, 48 male Wistar rats were used, separated into 08 experimental groups, with 06 animals in each: Group 1: control (CON); Group 2 (ORCH): composed of animals submitted to bilateral orchiectomy; Group 3 (DT): composed of animals that were submitted to dental trauma; Group 4 (ORCH + DT): composed of animals submitted to DT and bilateral orchiectomy; Group 5 (ITM) composed of animals that underwent induced tooth movement (MDI); Group 6 (ITM+ORCH): composed of animals that underwent ITM and bilateral orchiectomy; Group 7 (ITM+DT): composed of animals that underwent ITM and DT and Group 8 (ITM+ORCH+DT) composed of animals that underwent ITM, DT and bilateral orchiectomy. After the experimental period the animals were euthanized, weighed and the jaws were removed, fixed in 10% formaldehyde, decalcified, cut at 5 µm and stained with hematoxylin and eosin. Orchidectomy increased the rate of ITM in the G6 and G8 groups when compared to the G5 and G7 groups. Vascular changes in the periodontal ligament and dental resorptions were observed more frequently in the G8 animals in all regions evaluated. The drop in testosterone, associated with dental trauma, may negatively impact orthodontic treatment, causing periodontal changes and root resorption. No statistically significant differences were observed in the body weight of the animals at the end of the experimental period. Orchiectomy increased the rate of MDI in the G6 and G8 groups when compared to the groups to the other experimental groups, and the highest movement rate was verified in the G8 group. Histologically, the animals submitted to orthodontic movement had a decrease in the space of the periodontal ligament in the area of compression, increase of the space of the tension area, presence of inflammatory cells in the periodontal ligament and several osteoclasts around the alveolar bone, mainly in the intersegmental region –radicular. The number of reabsorption points in the distal root was higher in all groups, compared to the control group. However, the association of trauma, with orchidectomy and induced tooth movement, potentiated the observed effects. is concluded that the androgen deficit increases the rate of orthodontic movement and the association of factors (trauma, castration and tooth movement) induce a higher incidence of root resorption in the animals O sucesso da movimentação dentária em dentes traumatizados depende da severidade da injuria, sendo a reabsorção radicular (RR) uma consequência indesejável e possível de ocorrer antes, durante e após o tratamento ortodôntico. Além disso, o status hormonal do paciente tem um grande impacto na conduta do profissional, uma vez que pode influenciar diretamente o sucesso do tratamento ortodôntico. A testosterona (T) é o principal hormônio sexual esteroide masculino envolvido na diferenciação, desenvolvimento sexual e controle das funções reprodutivas masculina. A diminuição das concentrações de T está associada a uma queda na densidade óssea mineral alveolar, o que pode aumentar significativamente a velocidade do movimento dentário, podendo estar relacionada ao aumento no risco de reabsorção radicular. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar os efeitos da deficiência de testosterona associados ao traumatismo dentário (TD), e sua influência na reabsorção óssea e radicular durante a movimentação dentária induzida (MDI) em ratos. Para isso foram utilizados 48 ratos machos Wistar, separados em 08 grupos experimentais, com 06 animais em cada: G1: controle (CON); G2 castrado (CAST): composto por animais submetidos a orquiectomia bilateral; G3 (TD): composto por animais que foram submetidos ao trauma dentário; G4 (CAST+TD): composto por animais que foram submetidos ao TD e orquiectomia bilateral; G5 (MDI) composto por animais que foram submetidos a movimentação dentária induzida (MDI); G6 (MDI+CAST): composto por animais que foram submetidos a MDI e orquiectomia bilateral; G7(MDI+TD): composto por animais que foram submetidos a MDI e TD e G8 (MDI+CAST+TD) composto por animais que foram submetidos a MDI, TD e orquiectomia bilateral. Após o período experimental os animais foram eutanasiados, pesados e as maxilas foram retiradas, fixadas em formol a 10%, descalcificadas, cortadas a 5 µm e coradas com hematoxilina e eosina. Não foram observadas diferenças estatisticamente significativas, no peso corporal dos animais, ao fim do período experimental. A orquidectomia aumentou a taxa de MDI nos grupos G6 e G8 quando comparada aos demais grupos experimentais, sendo que a maior taxa de movimentação foi verificada nos animais do grupo G8. Histologicamente, os animais submetidos a movimentação ortodôntica apresentaram diminuição no espaço do ligamento periodontal na área de compressão, aumento do espaço da área de tensão, presença de células inflamatórias no ligamento periodontal e aumento de osteoclastos ao redor do osso alveolar, principalmente na região de septo inter-radicular. O número de pontos de reabsorção na raiz distal foi maior em todos os grupos, comparados ao controle. Entretanto, a associação do trauma, com a orquidectomia e movimentação dentária induzida, potencializaram os efeitos observados. Conclui-se que a o déficit androgênico aumenta a taxa de movimentação ortodôntica e a associação de fatores (trauma, castração e movimentação dentária) induzem a uma maior incidência de reabsorção radicular nos animais

The antibacterial evaluation was carried out by the Bacterial Viability Test (TVB) on the microorganisms E. faecalis and S. mutans, in the times: T0 (soon after the bacterial inoculum placement); T10 (10min), T20 (20min), T30 (30min) and T60 (60min). For UK, 50 crowns of bovine teeth were divided and divided according to the cavity cleaning material. The etiology of the CLPs, although not fully elucidated, includes environmental, genetic factors and their interactions. In an attempt to clarify such a question, researches have investigated the genes associated with the syndromes with occurrence of cracks in their clinical spectrum, suggesting that the analysis of these same genes may extend to the group of non-syndromic oral clefts. This study aimed to determine the association of polymorphisms contained in the GRHL3 gene (Grainyhead-like 3) with susceptibility to the development of CL/P in non-syndromic individuals, since it plays an important role in the formation of the face, in addition to related to syndromic cases of oral clefts. For this purpose, a case-control approach was used with 833 cases of CL/PNS (non-syndromic cleft lip and/or palate), with 272 non-synchronous palatine fissure-CPNS, 242 non-sindromic cleft lip-CLNS and 319 non-synchronous cleft lip and palate- CLPNS and 294 controls, from 5 different regions of Brazil. The study was carried out from the collection of buccal cells obtained through mouthwash with sucrose solution 3%, in which, after DNA isolation, genomics ancestry tests were performed, as well as the genotyping of the SNPs rs 10903078, rs 41268753 and rs 4648975 in GRHL3, in order to investigate the existence of possible associations between these with the development of CL/PNS in a sample of the Brazilian population. There was predominance for European ancestry and a significant association between the rs10903078 SNP and CLNS was observed, however there were no associations between this and the other SNP when related to the other types of oral clefts. The logistic regression analysis showed that the homozygous CC genotype of rs10903078 was associated with CLNS (OR: 1.99; 95% CI: 0.83-1.78; p = 0.03), as well as the haplotype formed by the C-C alleles of the rs10903078 and rs41268753 SNPs presented an increased frequency in croup with CLNS (p = 0.04), although these associations were not significant after Bonferroni correction for multiple comparisons. As fissuras labiopalatais (FLP) são as malformações congênitas craniofaciais mais comuns, podendo apresentar-se associadas ou não a síndromes. A etiologia das FLPs, ainda que não totalmente elucidada, inclui fatores ambientais, genéticos e suas interações. Na tentativa de esclarecer tal questão, pesquisas têm investigado os genes associados as síndromes com ocorrência de fissuras em seu espectro clínico, sugerindo que a análise desses mesmos genes possa se estender para o grupo de fissuras não-sindrômicas. Este estudo teve como objetivo determinar a associação de polimorfismos contidos no gene GRHL3 (Grainyhead-like 3) com a suscetibilidade para o desenvolvimento de FL/P em indivíduos não sindrômicos, uma vez que este tem papel importante na formação da face, além de estar relacionado aos casos sindrômicos de fissuras. Para tal, foi utilizada uma abordagem caso-controle com 833 casos de FL/PNS (fissura de lábio e/ou palato não-sindrômica ), sendo 272 fissura palatina não-sindrômica - FPNS, 242 fissura labial não-sindrômica - FLNS e 319 fissura de lábio e palato não-sindromica - FLPNS e 294 controles, provenientes de 5 regiões distintas do Brasil. O trabalho foi realizado a partir da coleta de células bucais obtidas através de bochecho com solução de sacarose 3%, nas quais, após o isolamento do DNA, foram realizados testes de ancestralidade genômica, bem como a genotipagem dos SNPs rs 10903078, rs 41268753 e rs 4648975 em GRHL3, a fim de investigar a existência de possíveis associações entre estes com o desenvolvimento de FL/PNS em uma amostra da população brasileira. Houve predominância para a ancestralidade europeia e uma associação significante entre o SNP rs10903078 e a FLNS foi observada, entretanto não houveram associações entre este e os demais SNP quando relacionados para os demais tipos de fissura. A análise de regressão logística mostrou que o genótipo homozigoto CC de rs10903078 foi associado com FLNS (OR: 1,99; 95% IC: 0,83-1,78; p=0.03), assim como o haplótipo formado pelos alelos C-C dos SNPs rs10903078 e rs41268753 apresentou uma frequência aumentada no grupo com FLNS (p= 0,04), embora estas associações não tenham sido significantes após a correção de Bonferroni para comparações múltiplas.

It has also been shown that resveratrol can positively interfere with osteoblastogenesis, contributing to a new bone formation, possibly promoting immunomodulator effect on host response in presence of periodontal disease. The aim of this study was to evaluate the appearance of periodontal tissues under resveratrol administration by means of histological, morphological and radiographic examinations of experimentally induced periodontitis rats. For the accomplishment of this study, 24 male Wistar rats, with 75 days of age were used, from which half of the total amount of animals receiving a ligature around the first inferior right and left molars, that acted as a gingival irritant for 30 days, favoring the accumulation of plaque and, consequently, the development of periodontal disease, forming the groups with experimental periodontitis. After this procedure, 4 groups were generated: 1) Control Group (CON); 2) Ligature Group (LIG); 3) Resveratrol Group (RSV); 4) Ligature-Resveratrol Group (LIG-RSV). Animals belonging to the Resveratrol groups received a daily dose of 10 mg/kg body weight of the polyphenol, orally, for 4 weeks. Sources: On 2018 august 7th a comprehensive search was performed in MEDLINE via PubMed, Cochrane Library, Brazilian Library in Dentistry, Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature database (LILACS) and citation databases, Scopus and Web of Science. IADR abstracts (1990–2018) unpublished and ongoing trials registries, dissertations and theses were also searched. Study selection: After two reviewers remove the duplicates, title and abstract screening, 4 parallel randomized clinical trials (RCTs) studies were included, which compared whitening dentifrices versus at home dental bleaching made in adult patients of any age group. Meta-analysis was conducted for CC in objective scale (ΔE*) and subjective scale (ΔSGU), risk and intensity of TS, risk of GI with Visual Analog Scale (VAS), and PS by random effects model. No significant difference in ΔSGU, risk and intensity of TS, risk of GI and PS was observed (p > 0.05). Conclusion: There was no difference between whitening dentifrices and at home dental bleaching in adult patients. However, this result is probably due to the limited number of studies included in this review, and in this way, we emphasize that the subject should remain under investigation. Objetivo: Esta revisão sistemática e metanálise foi realizada para avaliar a mudança de cor (MC), risco e intensidade da sensibilidade dental (SD), irritação gengival (IG) e satisfação do paciente (SP), comparando dentifrícios clareadores com clareamento caseiro, em pacientes adultos de qualquer idade. Fontes: Em 07 de agosto de 2018, efetuou-se uma pesquisa abrangente no MEDLINE via PubMed, Cochrane Library, Biblioteca Brasileira de Odontologia, banco de dados de Literatura em Ciências da Saúde da América Latina e Caribe (LILACS) e bancos de dados de citações, Scopus e Web of Science. Os resumos do IADR (1990-2018), registros de ensaios inéditos e em curso, dissertações e teses também foram pesquisados. Seleção do estudo: Depois da remoção de duplicatas, título e rastreamento de resumo por dois revisores, quatro estudos foram incluídos: critérios de eleição de acordo com os estudos clínicos randomizados (ECRs) paralelos, comparando dentifrícios clareadores com clareamento caseiro, em pacientes adultos de qualquer faixa etária. A metanálise foi realizada para MC (ΔE*, ΔSGU), risco e intensidade de SD, risco de IG e SP, a partir de Escala Analógica Visual (EVA) usando modelo de efeitos aleatórios. Não houve diferença significativa na escala subjetiva com escala de cores (ΔSGU), risco e intensidade de SD e risco de IG e SP (p > 0,05). Conclusão: Com base nos resultados apresentados, não houve diferença entre o dentifrício branqueador e o clareamento caseiro supervisionado em pacientes adultos. A double-blind, split-mouth randomized clinical trial was performed on 31 volunteers, over 18 years of age, with at least two NCCLs with a maximum of 50% enamel margin, regardless of their location in the dental arch, with adequate oral hygiene, absence of periodontal disease, without active caries lesions and parafunctional habits, had at least 20 functioning teeth, absence of active staples of removable partial dentures in the teeth included in the research, totalizig 109 restorations. A paired randomization was performed to select the teeth per patient that were part of each experimental group. The group 1 (SE) and group 2 (SEa), before the application of the adhesive system, the cavity was asperized with a spherical diamond bur FG1014 (KG Sorosen, Cotia, SP, Brazil) at high speed under refrigeration with soft pressure for 5 seconds. The clinical evaluation method used was (FDI) and (USPHS) criteria. Restoration retention was assessed as the primary outcome within the functional properties. The other clinical parameters evaluated, among the aesthetic properties were: marginal discoloration; corresponding to the functional properties: marginal adaptation; and on biological properties: caries lesion adjacent to restoration and postoperative sensitivity. The data were submitted to descriptive statistical analysis of variance by Friedman (α = 0.05) and their performance at different moments will be evaluated by the Mc Nemar test (α = 0.05) Results: 16 restorations were lost after 12 months (6 for the SE group and 10 for the SEa group). Marginal discoloration occurred in 1 (SEa) and 14 (5 SE and 9 SEa) of the restorations evaluated, respectively, for the USPHS and FDI criteria. Four restorations (1 SE and 3 SEa) were classified as bravo for marginal adaptation using the USPHS criteria and 18 restorations (7 SE and 11 SEa) when the FDI criteria were applied. Postoperative sensitivity was 2 teeth from SE to FDI and 1 tooth to SE (USPHS), and no case of recurrent caries was found in the study. Clinical Relevance: With the limitations of this study it was concluded that the asperization didn’t improve the results of adhesion to fracture and retention. Objetivos: Avaliar clinicamente a longevidade de restaurações de resina composta de pacientes com lesões cervicais não-cariosas (LCNC), asperizadas para maximizar a adesão de um sistema adesivo universal utilizado no modo autocondicionante por até 12 meses. Foi realizado um ensaio clínico randomizado duplo-cego, com boca dividida, em 31 voluntários, maiores de 18 anos, com pelo menos duas LCNCs com margem máxima de 50% de esmalte, independentemente de sua localização na arcada dentária, com higiene bucal adequada, ausência de doença periodontal, sem lesões de cárie ativas e hábitos parafuncionais, possuíam pelo menos 20 dentes em funcionamento, ausência de grampos ativos de próteses parciais removíveis nos dentes incluídos na pesquisa, totalizando 109 restaurações. Uma randomização pareada foi realizada para selecionar os dentes por paciente que fizeram parte de cada grupo experimental. Grupo 1 (SE) e grupo 2 (SEa), no grupo 2 antes da aplicação do sistema adesivo, a cavidade foi asperizada com broca diamantada esférica FG1014 (KG Sorosen, Cotia, SP, Brasil) em alta velocidade sob refrigeração com pressão suave para 5 segundos. O método de avaliação clínica utilizado foi o critério (FDI) e (USPHS). A retenção de restauração foi avaliada como o resultado primário dentro das propriedades funcionais. Os demais parâmetros clínicos avaliados, dentre as propriedades estéticas foram: descoloração marginal; correspondente às propriedades funcionais: adaptação marginal; e nas propriedades biológicas: lesão de cárie adjacente à restauração e sensibilidade pós-operatória. Os dados foram submetidos à análise estatística descritiva pelo teste de variança de Friedman (α = 0,05) e seu desempenho em diferentes momentos será avaliado pelo teste de Mc Nemar (α = 0,05). Resultados: 16 restaurações foram perdidas após 12 meses (6 para o grupo SE e 10 para o grupo SEa). Descoloração marginal ocorreu em 1 (SEa) e 14 (5 SE e 9 SEA) das restaurações avaliadas, respectivamente, para os critérios USPHS e FDI. Quatro restaurações (1 SE e 3 SEa) foram classificadas como bravo para adaptação marginal usando os critérios USPHS e 18 restaurações (7 SE e 11 SEa) quando os critérios de FDI foram aplicados. A sensibilidade pós-operatória foi de 2 dentes do SE ao FDI e 1 dente ao SE (USPHS), e nenhum caso de cárie recorrente foi encontrado no estudo. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A total of 92 restorations were randomly placed in 26 patients according to the following groups: Etch-and-rinse (ER) (no preparation) and etch-and-rinse and asperization (ERa). The resin composite Forma® Plus (Ultradent Products, USA) was placed incrementally. The restorations were evaluated at baseline, 6 and 12 months, using the FDI and USPHS criteria. Statistical analyses were performed using Friedman repeated-measures analysis and Mc Nemar's test (α=0.05). RESULTS: 13 restorations were lost at 12 months (6 for ER, 7 for ERa) (p >0.05 between groups). No restoration showed recurrent caries lesion at 12 months. 74 restorations were considered to have minor discrepancies in marginal adaptation at the 12 month recall using the FDI criteria (40 for ER, 44 for ERa p >0.05 between groups). CONCLUSION: The asperization before application of Peak® Universal Bond adhesive system as etch-and-rinse didn't affect the clinical behavior of composite restorations placed in NCCLs. OBJETIVO: Este estudo clínico duplo-cego, randomizado avaliou a influência da asperização no comportamento clínico do sistema adesivo Peak® Universal Bond (Ultradent Products, USA) no modo convencional em lesões cervicais não cariosas. MATERIAIS E MÉTODOS: Um total de 92 restaurações foram alocadas em 26 pacientes em dois grupos: convencional (sem preparo) (ER) e convencional asperizado (ERa). Resina composta Forma® Plus (Ultradent Products, USA) foi utilizada de maneira incremental. As restaurações foram avaliadas nos períodos do baseline, 6 e 12 meses, utilizando os critérios preconizados pelo FDI e USPHS. Análises estatísticas foram realizadas pelos testes de Friedman e Mc Nemar (α=0.05). RESULTADOS: 13 restaurações foram perdidas aos 12 meses (6 do grupo ER, 7 do grupo ERa) (p >0.05 entre os grupos). Nenhuma restauração apresentou cárie recorrente aos 12 meses. 74 restaurações apresentaram pequenas discrepâncias na adaptação marginal utilizando o critério FDI aos 12 meses (40 grupo ER, 44 grupo ERa p >0.05 entre os grupos). CONCLUSÃO: A asperização antes da aplicação do Sistema adesivo Peak® Universal Bond no modo convencional não afetou o comportamento clínico das restaurações em lesões cervicais não cariosas.

Bacteria of the genus Lactobacillus, Enterococcus and Bacillus are examples of probiotics. These appear to be a biological alternative to alter, at least in the short term, the plaque structure and help control periodontal disease (PD). Therefore, probiotics are now considered as a new therapeutic modality in the treatment of PD and studies are necessary to evaluate its effect. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of probiotic therapy on the periodontal and intestinal mucosa of rats with ligature-induced periodontitis. Thirty-two Wistar rats were randomly divided into 4 groups with 8 animals each: 1) Control group ): without periodontal disease and without administration of probiotic; 2) Periodontal disease group (PD): with periodontal disease induced and without administration of probiotic; 3) Probiotic group (PROB): without periodontal disease and with administration of probiotic; 4) Group periodontal disease + probiotic (DPPRO): with periodontal disease and administration of probiotic. The animals of the DP and DPPRO groups received a ligature in the lower first molars that acted as a gingival irritant for 44 days, favoring the accumulation of plaque and development of PD. Lactobacillus acidophilus probiotic was given orally for 44 days (8.0 x 107 CFU / mL), starting the same day as DP induction. After the experimental period, the animals were euthanized by guillotine decapitation. Blood was collected to assess triglyceride and total cholesterol concentrations. Hemi-mandibles were collected for histomorphometric and radiographic analysis. The duodenum was also removed for morphological evaluation and the gingival tissue around the molars was collected for analysis of the presence of interleukin 17 (IL-17). The data obtained were normal and were analyzed through ANOVA and Tukey post-test. The results of the total cholesterol and triglycerides dosage did not present statistically significant differences between the groups, as well as histomorphometric analyzes of the duodenum. Regarding the radiographic and histomorphometric analyzes of the mandible, the DPPRO group had a significantly lower bone loss than the DP group, as well as a lower number of osteoclasts in the DPPRO group when compared to the DP. There was a decrease in IL-17 in the DPPRO group when compared to the DP group. Based on the results obtained, it is suggested that Lactobacillus acidophilus-based probiotic therapy was effective in inhibiting the development of periodontitis by decreasing alveolar bone loss and modulating inflammation. However, it had no effect on the intestinal morphology of the duodenum Define-se probióticos como micro-organismos vivos que, quando administrados em quantidades adequadas, conferem um benefício à saúde do indivíduo. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar o efeito da terapia com probiótico nos tecidos periodontais e mucosa intestinal de ratos com periodontite induzida por ligadura trinta e dois ratos Wistar foram divididos aleatoriamente em 4 grupos com 8 animais cada, sendo): 1) Grupo controle (GC): sem doença periodontal e sem administração de probiótico; 2) Grupo doença periodontal (DP): com doença periodontal induzida e sem administração de probiótico; 3) Grupo probiótico (PROB): sem doença periodontal e com administração de probiótico; 4) Grupo doença periodontal + probiótico (DPPRO): com doença periodontal e com administração de probiótico. Os animais dos grupos DP e DPPRO receberam uma ligadura nos primeiros molares inferiores que atuou como irritante gengival por 44 dias, favorecendo o acúmulo de placa bacteriana e desenvolvimento da DP. O probiótico a base de Lactobacillus acidophilus foi administrado oralmente por 44 dias (8,0 x 107 UFC/mL), iniciando no mesmo dia da indução da DP. Após o período experimental, os animais foram eutanasiados por decapitação em guilhotina. O sangue foi coletado para avaliar as concentrações de triglicerídeos e colesterol total. Foram coletadas as hemi-mandíbulas para análise histomorfométrica e radiográfica. O duodeno também foi retirado para avaliação morfológica e o tecido gengival ao redor dos molares foi coletado para análise da presença de interleucina 17 (IL-17). Os dados obtidos apresentaram normalidade e foram analisados através dos testes ANOVA e pós-teste de Tukey. Os resultados da dosagem de colesterol total e triglicerídeos não apresentaram diferenças estatisticamente significantes entre os grupos, assim como nas análises histomorfométricas do duodeno. Em relação às análises radiográficas e histomorfométricas da mandíbula, o grupo DPPRO teve uma perda óssea significantemente menor que o grupo DP, assim como menor número de osteoclastos no grupo DPPRO quando comparado ao DP. Em relação a IL-17 houve diminuição da mesma no grupo DPPRO quando comparado ao grupo DP. Baseado nos resultados obtidos sugere-se que a terapia com probiótico à base de Lactobacillus acidophilus foi efetiva na inibição do desenvolvimento da periodontite através da diminuição da perda óssea alveolar e modulação da inflamação. No entanto, não teve nenhum efeito sobre a morfologia intestinal do duodeno.

Materials and Methods: 136 bovine incisors were divided into 16 experimental groups (n = 8), and compared to the one observed in immediately extracted teeth that were not stored, the control group (CG), totaling 17 groups. The specimens were made with conventional adhesive Adper Single Bond 2 (3M ESPE, St Paul, MN, USA) and Opallis Flow composite (Dentscare LTDA, Joinville, SC, BRA) after different storage periods. After 1 week, the specimens were tested in a universal testing machine (EMIC DL 500, São José dos Pinhais, PR, BRA); the rupture force was recorded in N and, according to the area of the adhesive interface, converted into MPa. Results: The groups stored in DW had the lowest values at all times, and 0.5% chloramine was the most stable solution up to 3 months. Conclusion: It can be concluded that different solutions and storage times interfere on the bond strength to dentin. Objetivo: Avaliar o efeito do armazenamento de dentes bovinos em quatro diferentes soluções (água destilada, soro fisiológico, cloramina T 0,5% e timol 0,1%), quando congeladas, por quatro diferentes tempos (uma semana, um, três e seis meses), na resistência de união adesiva à dentina. Metodologia: 136 incisivos bovinos foram divididos em 16 grupos experimentais (n=8), e comparados àquela observada em dentes imediatamente extraídos (grupo controle), totalizando 17 grupos. Os corpos-de-prova foram confeccionados com adesivo convencional Adper Single Bond 2 (3M ESPE, St Paul, MN, EUA) e compósito Opallis Flow (Dentscare LTDA, Joinville, SC, BRA) após os diferentes períodos de armazenamento. Após 7 dias, as unidades amostrais foram testadas em máquina universal de ensaios (EMIC DL 500, São José dos Pinhais, PR, BRA); a força de ruptura foi registrada em N e, de acordo com a área da interface adesiva, convertida em MPa. Resultados: Os grupos armazenados em água destilada apresentaram os menores valores em todos os tempos, e a cloramina T 0,5% mostrou-se a solução mais estável até três meses. Methods: A total of 219 restorations were randomly placed in 35 patients according to the following groups: P1 - applied according to the manufacturer’s; P2X – applied for the double time; SL1 and SL2X (the same application mode). The resin composite Amelogen (Ultradent) was placed incrementally. The restorations were evaluated immediately (baseline) and 6 months, using the FDI and USPHS criteria. Statistical analyses were performed using appropriate tests (=0.05). Results: Twenty-four restorations were lost at 6 months (4 for P1, 2 for P2X, 9 for SL1 and 9 for SL2X) (p < 0.05 between groups). Post-operative sensitivity wasn’t observed in any of the recall periods. Thrity-five restorations were considered to have minor discrepancies in marginal adaptation at the 6-month recall using the FDI criteria (8 for P1, 7 for P2X, 12 for SL1 and 8 for SL2X; p > 0.05 between groups). Ten restorations were considered to have minor discrepancies in marginal discoloration at the 6-month recall (2 for P1, 1 for P2X, 3 for SL1 and 2 for SL2X; p > 0.05 between groups). Conclusion: The increased application time of adhesive system two-step etch-and-rinse didn’t improve the clinical behavior of composite restorations placed in NCCLs. In the meantime, clinical behavior may be influenced by the composition of adhesive systems. Este ensaio clínico controlado randomizado, duplo cego avaliou a influência do aumento do tempo de aplicação em dois sistemas adesivos convencionais de dois passos, Peak® Universal Bond (P) (Ultradent Products Ind) e Single Link (SL) (Angelus Dental Products Industry) aplicados para restaurar lesões cervicais não cariosas (LCNC). Material e Método: No desenho experimental um total de 219 restaurações foram distribuídas aleatoriamente em 35 pacientes de acordo com os seguintes grupos: P1 e SL1 - aplicados de acordo com o fabricante por 10s; P2X e SL2X - aplicados por 20 s. A resina composta Amelogen (Ultradent) foi colocada de forma incremental. As restaurações foram avaliadas imediatamente (baseline), e em 6 meses, utilizando os critérios FDI e USPHS. As análises estatísticas foram realizadas utilizando testes de Friedman e Mc Nemar (α = 0,05). Resultado: Vinte e quatro restaurações foram perdidas aos 6 meses (4 para P1, 2 para P2X, 9 para SL1 e 9 para SL2X) (p0,05 entre os grupos). Oito restaurações apresentaram pequena discrepância no manchamento marginal na avaliação de 6 meses (2 para P1, 1 para P2X, 3 para SL1 e 2 para SL2X; p> 0,05 entre grupos). Conclusão: Aumentar o tempo de aplicação do sistema adesivo convencional de dois passos não melhora o desempenho clínico das restaurações em resina compostas realizadas em LCNCs. Entretanto, este desempenho/performance pode ser influenciado pela composição dos sistemas adesivos.

Fontes: Em 10 de agosto de 2017, efetuou-se uma pesquisa abrangente no MEDLINE via PubMed, Cochrane Library, Biblioteca Brasileira de Odontologia, banco de dados de Literatura em Ciências da Saúde da América Latina e Caribe (LILACS) e bancos de dados de citações, Scopus e Web of Science. Os resumos do International Association for Dental Research (IADR) (1990-2017), registros de ensaios inéditos e em curso, dissertações e teses também foram pesquisados. Seleção do estudo: Foram selecionados artigos relevantes que avaliaram Ensaios Clínicos Randomizados (ECR’s) paralelos e boca-dividida que compararam fitas clareadoras com clareamento caseiro ou de consultório em pacientes adultos de qualquer idade. Todos os artigos foram publicados antes de 10 de agosto de 2017. Foram identificados 4586 estudos e dois revisores realizaram a remoção de duplicatas, seleção de título e rastreamento de resumo, restando 14 estudos a serem incluídos na análise. A meta-análise foi realizada para a mudança de cor (ΔE*, ΔSGU), risco e intensidade de SD, risco de IG e satisfação do paciente, a partir de Escala Analógica Visual (EAV) usando modelo de efeitos aleatórios. Não houve diferença significativa na escala subjetiva com escala de cores (ΔSGU), risco e intensidade de SD, risco de IG e satisfação do paciente (p > 0,05). Porém, na escala objetiva com espectrofotômetro (ΔE), a mudança de cor foi maior no grupo de clareamento caseiro com peróxido de carbamida em comparação ao uso de fitas. Conclusão: Apesar de não ter sido identificada diferença nos tratamentos, deve-se interpretar esse resultado com cautela em vista escassez de ECR’s comparando tratamentos clareadores supervisionados com fitas clareadoras com baixo risco de viés. Relevância Clínica: Apesar da efetividade equivalente entre os tratamentos clareadores avaliados, na avaliação de ΔE*, o clareamento caseiro com peróxido de carbamida demonstrou melhor resultado em mudança de cor quando comparado com as fitas. Porém, este estudo não pode afirmar este resultado devido a alta varibialidade dos protocolos e presença de poucos estudos com baixo risco de viés. Objective: A systematic review and meta-analysis were performed to evaluate the color change, risk and intensity of tooth sensitivity (TS), risk of gingival irritation (GI) and patient’s satisfaction comparing whitening strips versus dental bleaching in adult patients of any age made at home or in office. Methods: On August 2017 the literature was elletronically searched in MEDLINE via PubMed, Cochrane Library, Brazilian Library in Dentistry, Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature database (LILACS) and citation databases, Scopus and Web of Science. Abstracts from International Association for Dental Research (IADR) (1990–2017) unpublished and ongoing trials registries, dissertations and thesis were also searched. Study selection: It was selected relevant articles that evaluated parallel and split-mouth Randomized Clinical Trials (RCTs) that compared whitening strips versus dental bleaching made at home or in office in adult patients of any age group. All articles were published only before August 10th, 2017. 4586 studies were identified and two reviewers removed the duplicates, title and abstract screening, remaining 14 studies to be included on analysis. As Meta-analysis was conducted for color change in objective scale (ΔE*) and subjective scale (ΔSGU), risk and intensity of TS and risk of GI with Visual Analog Scale (VAS), and patient’s satisfaction using random effects model. No significant difference in ΔSGU, risk and intensity of TS, risk of GI and paient’s satisfaction was observed (p > 0.05). However in ΔE* evaluation, color change was higher on the tray group with carbamide peroxide when compared to strips group. Conclusion: Although no difference was identified in the comparative treatments, this result should be interpreted with caution in view of the existence of few ECRs comparing supervised bleaching treatments with whitening tapes with low risk of bias. Clinical Relevance: Despite the equivalent effectiveness among the bleaching treatments evaluated, on ΔE* evaluation, there was higher color change for at-home with carbamide peroxide group. However, this study cannot confirm this result due to the high varibiality of the protocols and the presence of few studies with low risk of bias.

Materials and methods: Eleven human third molars were sectioned in half to obtain twenty-two samples. The proximal enamel surfaces were planned, polished and randomly divided into 2 groups according to the treatment, and these subdivided (2 groups) according to the storage time, making 4 groups (n = 11): CAI (Scotchbond Universal adhesive-SBU, with prior 37% phosphoric acid conditioning for 15 sec, analyzed immediately); CA12m (same treatment as CAI, analyzed after 12 months aging); SAI group (SBU without prior acid conditioning, analyzed immediately); SA12m (same treatment as SAI, analyzed after 12 months aging). Triclosan (TCS) is an antimicrobial agent used in industrialized products, especially personal care and oral hygiene. Particularly in dentistry, this substance is widely used in dental dentifrices and mouthwashes, obtaining excellent results in control of biofilm and avoiding installation and progression of carious and periodontal lesions. Several studies are concern about TCS as lately this compound has been included in the list of endocrine disrupters because of their adverse effects initially observed in aquatic fauna and confirmed in mammalian and human investigations. So, the objective of the present study was to evaluate the effects of maternal exposure to TCS, during pregnancy and lactation, on physical development, on puberty and on ovarian morphology of female offspring. For this purpose, pregnant rats were treated once a day orally during pregnancy and lactation as follows: Group I (GI): composed of 8 rats from the control group that received only corn oil under the same experimental conditions other groups; Group II (GII): composed of 8 rats that received TCS diluted in corn oil at a dose of 75mg / kg / day; Group III (GIII): composed of 8 rats that received TCS diluted in corn oil at a dose of 150mg / kg / day; Group IV (GIV): composed of 8 rats that received TCS diluted in corn oil at a dose of 300mg / kg / day. The female offspring were evaluated for external signs of physical development, puberty and at 90 days were euthanized for weighing and collection of ovaries for histological analysis. The results showed that the animal body weight was significantly lower in all TCS treated groups. Animals from all groups exposed to TCS were delayed on the day of vaginal opening and on the first estrus, showing delay in the onset of puberty. In addition, there was a reduction in the number of estrous cycles, associated with decrease in the frequency of the proestrus phase and increase in the methaestrus phase. The female offspring of TCS treated mothers had lower folliculogenic activity associated with increased TCS dose. It is concluded that maternal exposure to triclosan, during gestation and lactation, causes delayed puberty, dysregulation of the estrous cycle and reduction of folliculogenic activity in the female offspring of the rat. Key words: Triclosan, Estudos epidemiológicos, clínicos e experimentais têm sugerido que os fatores ambientais são uma possível causa para o aumento na incidência de anormalidades reprodutivas e redução da fertilidade, assim como diversos tipos de câncer hormônio-dependente, em ambos os sexos. O triclosan (TCS) é um agente antimicrobiano frequentemente utilizado em produtos industrializados, especialmente de cuidado pessoal e higiene oral. Particularmente na Odontologia, esta substância é amplamente utilizada em dentifrícios e enxaguatórios bucais, obtendo-se excelentes resultados no controle da placa bacteriana e evitando a instalação e progressão de lesões cariosas e periodontais. Entretanto, investigações acerca das consequências da extensa utilização do TCS são preocupantes, já que este composto tem sido incluído na lista dos desreguladores endócrinos por seus efeitos adversos observados inicialmente na fauna aquática e, confirmado posteriormente, nas investigações em mamíferos e em humanos. O objetivo do presente estudo foi avaliar os efeitos decorrentes da exposição materna ao TCS, durante a prenhez e a lactação, no desenvolvimento físico, na instalação da puberdade e na morfofisiologia ovariana da prole feminina de rato. Para tanto, ratas prenhes foram tratadas uma vez ao dia, por via oral, durante a prenhez e a lactação da seguinte forma: Grupo I (GI): composto por 8 ratas do grupo controle que receberam somente óleo de milho nas mesmas condições experimentais dos demais grupos; Grupo II (GII): composto por 8 ratas que receberam TCS diluído em óleo de milho, na dose de 75mg/kg/dia; Grupo III (GIII): composto por 8 ratas que receberam TCS diluído em óleo de milho, na dose de 150mg/kg/dia; Grupo IV (GIV): composto por 8 ratas que receberam TCS diluído em óleo de milho, na dose de 300mg/kg/dia. Os filhotes do sexo feminino foram avaliados quanto aos sinais externos do desenvolvimento físico, instalação da puberdade e aos 90 dias foram eutanasiados para pesagem e coleta dos ovários para análise histológica. Os resultados obtidos revelaram que o peso médio da ninhada foi significativamente menor em todos os grupos tratados com TCS, quando comparados aos respectivos controles. Os animais de todos os grupos expostos ao TCS apresentaram atraso no dia da abertura vaginal e do primeiro estro, evidenciando atraso na instalação da puberdade. Além disso, houve redução no número de ciclos estrais, associado à diminuição da frequência da fase de proestro e aumento da frequência da fase de metaestro. A prole feminina das mães tratadas com TCS apresentou menor atividade foliculogênica associada com o aumento da dose de TCS. Conclui-se que a exposição materna ao triclosan, durante a gestação e lactação, causa atraso na instalação da puberdade, desregulação do ciclo estral e redução da atividade foliculogênica na prole feminina de rato.

Also, there is a lack of evidence regarding the effect of insertion of rectangular strands into orthodontic molar tubes on the final positioning of these teeth when different prescriptions are used. Therefore, this study had the objective of analyzing whether the torque present in the tubes of the pre-adjusted devices of different prescriptions would alter the ideal inclination of the first and second lower and upper molars. METHODS: The sample consisted of gypsum models of 30 patients who presented ideal torques. Tubes with 0.22x0.028 "slot of four prescriptions were used: MBT, Roth, Damon and Edgewise. The tubes were glued on the plaster model, in the center of the clinical crown of each tooth, vestibular face. In addition to this gluing position, the position of one millimeter below the center of the crown was evaluated in the lower models. The gap between the steel rectangular wires (0.019x0.025 "and 0.021x0.025") and the tubes was measured to verify if the initial torque was maintained, and the effective torque was quantified. CONCLUSIONS: In the 0.019 wire x0.025 "there were higher number of optimum torque maintenance, regardless of the prescription tested, when compared to 0.021x0.025" wire. The Roth prescription obtained the closest results to zero in the evaluation of the effective torque, indicating a small average torque change. INTRODUÇÃO: Há uma diversidade de prescrições de aparelhos ortodônticos que o ortodontista dispõe para empregarem sua prática clínica. Também, existe uma escassez de evidências com relação ao efeito da inserção de fios retangulares em tubos ortodônticos de molares sobre o posicionamento final destes dentes quando utilizadas diferentes prescrições. Por isso, esse estudo teve o objetivo de analisar se o torque presente nos tubos dos aparelhos pré-ajustados de diferentes prescrições alteraria a inclinação ideal dos primeiros e segundos molares inferiores e superiores. MÉTODOS: A amostra foi composta por modelos de gesso de 30 pacientes que apresentavam torques ideais. Foram utilizados tubos com slot 0.22x0.028” de quatro prescrições: MBT, Roth, Damon e Edgewise. Os tubos foram colados no modelo de gesso, no centro da coroa clínica de cada dente, face vestibular. Além dessa posição de colagem, foi avaliado, nos modelos inferiores, a posição de um milímetro abaixo do centro da coroa. Mediu-se a a folga entre os fios retangulares de aço (0.019x0.025” e 0.021x0.025”) e os tubos, para verificar se o torque inicial seria mantido, e quantificou-se o torque efetivo. CONCLUSÕES: No fio 0.019x0.025” houve maior número de manutenções do torque ideal, independente da prescrição testada, quando comparado com o fio 0.021x0.025”. A prescrição Roth obteve os resultados mais próximos a zero na avaliação do torque efetivo, indicando uma pequena alteração média do torque.
