- Abstract
Salpichroa salpoensis (Solanaceae), a new species from La Libertad and Cajamarca region, Peru, is described and illustrated in detail. Salpichroa salpoensis S. Leiva is characterized by having calyx and corolla densely pubescent outside with simple and bifurcate non-glandular trichomes, corolla tube glabrous within, androecium and gynoecium included, staminal filaments slightly broadened at the apex, style and ovary with short trichomes, and berries intensely purple or black when mature. In addition to the description, we present the respective illustration, we discuss its relationships with allied species and we include data about geographic distribution, ecology, phenology, current status and uses of the species.
