Ninety four patients with thyrotoxicosis were examined as well as 40 healthy subjects. Normal concentration of sodium, negligible chloride increase and slightly decreased potassium were established in serum. Hematocrite drops in parallel with disease severity. The average erythrocyte volume is increased whereas the average hemoglobin concentration is decreased.

The authors report a case with fibroplastic parietal endocarditis with blood eosinophilia (Löffler syndrome II), observed in the course of seven years. The permanent high eosinophilia is of special interest as well as the developed aneurysm of a. pulmonalis. The past history of toxoplasmosis is thought to be the cause for the origination of the disease in the patient. A thorough literature survey on the problem is carried out.

The gastric secretion with pentagastrin was studied in 214 subjects (130 with duodenal ulcer, 20 with double localization--in duodenum and stomach, 32 with gastric ulcer and 32--healthy). A different gastric secretory characteristic was found and the problem raised as regards the differentiated therapeutic and surgical approach in the separate tyoes of ulcer disease. The origination and clinical course of the duodenal ulcer and the ulcer with double localization are admitted to depend most likely and to a greater extent, on the gastric secretion rate. The duration of the active duodenal ulcer probably has no substantial effect on the enhanced secretory function of the stomach in the course of many years. The indices of secretion and acid elimination in single gastric ulcers are significantly diminished.

The age characteristics of gastric secretion were studied in 145 patients with duodenal ulcer and 32 healthy subjects via pentagastrin. With age advancing of the patients, a gradual reduction of gastric secretion and acidity are found, being statistically significant after the age of 49. Apart of that, the average values of the indices for each age group remain considerably higher than the normal. The age, at which the disease originated, has also a certain effect on gastric secretion. Significant reduction is observed after the age of 49, concerning only secretion volume and acidity elimination at basic conditions. The changes found in the gastric secretion and acidity are admitted to possibly play a definite role for the rather unusual course and relatively rare duodenal ulcer origination at the age of 50.

Gastric secretion was investigated in 187 subjects under conditions of maximal stimulation with pentagastrin. Thirty subjects, out of them, were healthy, 30--with gastric ulcer, 110--with duodenal ulcer and 17--with double ulcer localization--in duodenum and stomach. The indices of gastric secretion in duodenal ulcer and ulcer disease with double localization are considerably higher than those on the healthy subjects and differ essentially. With single gastric ulcer they are significantly lower than those of the healthy controls.

The authors have studied the functional liver state in 107 patients with diabetes mellitus. Various stages of functional liver disturbances were found in a considerable part of them. With a few exceptions, the latter have the highest incidence and severity among the patients with decompensated, with mixed type diabetes and with remote vascular degenerative manifestations. Radioisotope investigations with 131J-Bengal pink, reveals the earliest developed changes in some of the liver functions, as compared with rest of the tests. The functional liver state is recommended to be determined in all diabetics with a view to an early detection of the developed functional disturbances and their timely treatment.
