Li4Ti5O12/SnO2 composite with different SnO2 contents were prepared by hydrothermal method. SnO2 nanosheets were in situ formed on the surface of Li4Ti5O12 nanoparticles. At the same time, Sn ions were doped into the Li4Ti5O12 lattice, which effectively improved the conductivity of Li4Ti5O12. When the content of SnO2 was 8 %, the electrochemical performance of Li4Ti5O12/SnO2 composite was the best. The first discharge specific capacity was 480.54 mAh/g. The capacity remained at 276.8 mAh/g after 200 cycles at 0.1 A/g, and the capacity retention was as high as 87.4% (compared with the 10th cycle).

Nickel-based composite coatings reinforced by spherical tungsten carbide were deposited on 42CrMo alloy steel using plasma transfer arc welding (PTAW) process. Their electrochemical corrosion properties in NaCl solution under atmospheric and high pressure were studied by polarization curve, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The corrosion and erosion resistance of the coatings were also investigated by salt spray corrosion and erosion corrosion tests. The results show that the self-corrosion potential of the composite coatings increased with the increase of tungsten carbide content, and the Cr element in Ni60 sample formed a stable and compact passivation film. Compared with corrosion at atmospheric pressure, the adsorption and penetration of Cl- on the coating surface enhanced due to the increase of Cl- activity under pressure, thereby to weaken the corrosion resistance. The Samples that passivated in salt spray environment, cannot completely hinder the corrosion of the coating, just only to slow down the corrosion. This study can provide theoretical basis for deep-sea oil drilling and production engineering equipment.

In order to resolve the operation difficulty, high cost problems of traditional manual cell microinjection, a low-cost microinjection system based on hybrid-driven micro-robot is presented. System is mainly composed of microscope, 3-DOF(degrees of freedom) micro-robot, signal generator and power amplifier. Firstly, we describe the automated microinjection system. Secondly, we analyze the motion performance of the robot in the horizontal and vertical direction. The single step resolution is less than 5um each step working at a frequency more than 200Hz. Maximum range of vertical motion is 5mm and minimum resolution ups to 2um. Finally, shrimp egg microinjection experiment is conducted using our system. The experimental result shows that this proposed scheme is simple, reproducible and can achieve microinjection success rate of 88%.

Nature Scene classification is a fundamental problem in image understanding. Human can recognize the scene instantly after only a glance. This is mainly because that our visual attention is easily attracted by the salient objects in scene. And these objects are always representative in the natural scene. It is unclear how humans achieve rapid scene categorization. But this kind of high-level cognitive behavior can be reflected by the eye movement. To identify this ability, we propose a model with the guidance of eye movement. It combines the bag of words (BOW) and spatial pyramid matching (SPM) methods to train and test our model on support vector machine (SVM). The eye movement experiments were employed to validate our model. We found that the subjects could recognize the scenes correctly even if given only a few saliency patches with less than one second. These results suggest that the eye tracking saliency patches play an important role for human scene categorization.

Saliency detection has been applied in many cases. This paper proposes a 2D hidden Markov model (2D-HMM) which exploits the hidden semantic information of image to detect the salient regions. A spatial pyramid Histogram of Oriented Gradient (SP-HOG) descriptor is used to extract feature. After encoding the image by a learned dictionary, the 2D-viterbi algorithm is applied to inferring the saliency map. This model can depict the shapes of targets, and also it is robust to the targets’ change of posture and viewpoint. To validate the model with human’s visual search mechanism, eye track experiment is employed to train our model directly from the eye data. The results show that our model achieves a better performance than eye data. Moreover, it indicates that learning from eye track data to figure out their targets is possible.

Based on the biological purification technology combined with the engineering measures, the enhanced nitrogen purification biological experiment is implemented in Wenyu River in Beijing. The water in the river mainly is the outflow from the sewage treatment plant, in which the ammonium (NH4-N) has been effectively removed for the deeply nitrification, while treatment of the nitrate nitrogen (NO3-N) and total nitrogen (TN) is incomplete due to the denitrification. The water has low C/N value and has poor biodegradability. In this study, aiming at the water feature of low C/N and poor biodegradability, the effective way to strengthen denitrification by some enhanced techniques, such as increasing the microorganisms number and biodegradability (ie, improved nitrogen ratio), changing denitrification rates and so on, has been studied. The experimental results show that under the condition of water flow (Q) as 15 ~ 27L/hr, hydraulic detention time as (HRT) 10 ~ 18h, concentration of nitrate nitrogen (NO3-N) as 12.20 ~ 31.44mg / L, and total nitrogen (TN) as 14.50 ~ 34.71 mg / L, the removal rates of NO3-N and TN are over 30%.

Anchoring the external prestressing to the bridge end block is one of the key issues for strengthening of existing concrete bridges. This paper presents an innovative technique to fix steel brackets to the sides of the end block by two transverse pretensioned through-rods and three expansion bolts in both friction and shear pattern. In order to validate the technique, two steel reinforced concrete specimens (J1 and J2) fixed with experimental steel brackets are prepared and an experiment investigation has been carried out. Two sudden failures have been observed. The failure patterns of expansion bolts in J1 are pullout failure and shear failure, and two transverse pretensioned through-rods have large yield deformation. The failure patterns of expansion bolts in J2 are similar, but the failure patterns of two transverse pretensioned through-rods are shear fracture. The relationship of force and slip is linear but with two different slope when the load less than 2000kN in both J1 and J2.

By combining carbon woven fabric with thermoplastics grains, a thermo-stamping process is proposed for forming parts with complex double curvatures in one step, to implement the affordable application of fiber reinforced composites in high volume merchandises such as automotive industry. In the proposed thermo-stamping process, laminated carbon woven fabrics with thermoplastic grains are heated, and then transferred rapidly to a preheated mould for thermo-stamping, and cooled down to form the carbon fiber reinforced composite part. Various thermoplastics such as PP, PA6 and ABS are used as matrix material in the composite part. Experimental results including shear angle distribution in the fabric, deformed boundary profile of fabric with different original fiber orientation and forming defects are presented. It is demonstrated that high quality parts can be obtained with the proposed forming process, and defects are controllable. By using the proposed process and laminated structures, it is feasible to implement the high-volume and low-cost manufacturing of fiber reinforced composite parts.

For Na0.5K0.5NbO3(KNN)-based lead-free piezoelectric ceramics, an important phenomenon was found that the piezoelectric properties can be improved remarkably for equivalence substitution while it can’t be improved remarkably for non-equivalence substitution. To find out the real reason for this phenomenon, Li+ and La3+ were used to modify KNN lead-free piezoelectric ceramics by conventional sintering technique. The relaxor characteristic was detected for La3+ modified KNN lead-free piezoelectric ceramics, and this caused low piezoelectric properties. However, the relaxor characteristic can not be detected for Li+ modified KNN lead-free piezoelectric ceramics, and the piezoelectric properties is higher than that of La3+ modified KNN lead-free piezoelectric ceramics. Accordingly, the relaxor characteristic has important effect on structure and electric properties. The results show that equivalence and non-equivalence substitution have important and different effect on structure and performance of KNN ceramics.

Using an agricultural waste rapeseed meal (RM) as adsorbent, the adsorption of methylene blue (MB) and malachite green (MG) from aqueous solution has been studied. For this purpose, the adsorption of MB and MG onto the RM with aspects of kinetics, equilibrium and the effect of pH were investigated. The equilibrium experimental data of MB and MG is in well accordance with isotherm equations of Langmuir and Freundlich. And the maximum uptake capacities (qm) of MB and MG were 122 and 78 mg.g-1respectively. It was observed that the adsorption rate of MB and MG onto the RM were very rapid and the adsorption process followed the pseudo-second-order equation. The RM appears as a very prospective adsorbent for the removal of cationic dyes from industrial effluent due to its high uptake, rapid adsorption rate and low cost.

For a further understanding of the features of objects in the microscopic image during automatic cell manipulation, an optical imaging simulation method for inverted microscope was studied, with an assumption of parallel rays of light. The proposed method calculated the forward direction of every ray starting from the source until it reached the lens or disappeared from the effective range. A virtual image could be generated by an imitation of a CCD sensing element. Emulations in cases of a micro glass bar, a micro pipette and an egg cell which were commonly encountered in cell manipulation were carried out, whose gray-level virtual images were contrasted to real ones for verification. Results showed a considerable effect of the proposed simulation method

Natural boundary integral method is applied to deal with plate problems defined in irregular domains. We divide the solution into two parts, a particular solution for inhomogeneous biharmonic equation and the general solution for homogeneous biharmonic equation. For the former, the direct expansion method of boundary conditions is used to treat the arbitrary domains, and the processes of natural boundary integral method coupling with finite element method are omitted. Numerical experiments show that the method is very simple and of high accuracy.

In this study, concrete prisms were made with three mineral admixtures: fly ash, blast furnace slag or silica fume and with three water-to-binder ratios(w/b). Chloride penetration was measured by the rapid chloride permeability test (RCPT)-ASTM C1202, 150-days ponding test and alternate wetting and drying test by cyclic loading with salt solution and oven drying, and the results by the three test methods were compared. This paper discussed the effects of mineral admixtures and w/b on the concrete chloride permeability. Blending concrete with blast furnace slag, fly ash or silica fume was beneficial with regard to the resistance against chloride ion penetration. Concrete specimens with lower w/b showed lower chloride permeability.

To improve the temperature stability of PMN(Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3)-based ceramics, PMN-based composite ceramics were prepared by co-sintering two kinds of ceramics with different curie temperature. One unit is MHT(0.82PMN (Pb (Mg1/3Nb2/3) O3) -0.18PT (PbTiO3) (the curie temperature Tm=74°C)), and the other unit is MLT (0.88PMN (Pb (Mg1/3Nb2/3) O3)-0.12BT (BaTiO3) (the curie temperature Tm=-50°C)). The effects of the sintering temperature and the ratio of high and low Tm units on dielectric temperature stability were studied. The results show that the temperature stability can be improved greatly by co-sintering and coating method. The results show that PMN(Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3)-based composite ceramics are promising candidate for practical applications.

Shape memory polyurethane (SMPU)/Vapor grown carbon nanofibers (VGCNF) composites with different surface functionalized method were prepared via sol-gel process. The structure and properties of the composites were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), universal testing machine, and dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA). The results show that the dispersion of VGCNF with surface modification in matrix is better than that of pristine. The mechanical properties of the composites with VGCNF modified by concentrated nitric acid deteriorated substantially. However, both the tensile strength and elongation at break of the composites combined surface modification of silane coupling agent and sol-gel method increased obviously. The substantially improved mechanical properties are mainly attributed to the cross-link between coupling agent and the network structure of SiO2produced during the sol-gel process. The DMA analysis suggests that the surface treatment of the VGCNF exhibit obviously effect on the dynamic mechanical properties of the composites.
