United Parcel Service (UPS) has placed an order with Airbus for up to 60 Airbus A300-600 freighters, plus a commitment to purchase another 30 aircraft over the next 10 years. The contract with Airbus, which is worth up to $5 billion, remains to specify whether the aircraft will be powered by either General Electric, or Pratt & Whitney. Airbus also landed a contract from GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS) for the supply of 30 CFM56-engined A320 family aircraft, including 10 options. GECAS also placed a $1.3-billion order with Boeing for nine 767-300ER and three 767-400ER, all powered by GE CF6-80 series engines.

American Eagle has placed a $2-billion order for 75 Embraer ERJ-135 with Embraer, including an option for 75 more of the 37-seat regional aircraft. The American Eagle order will double the orderbook for the ERJ-135s, and is one of the over $4-billion orders placed during the Farnborough air show. Meanwhile, International Lease Finance Corp. (ILFC) will also spend over $3 billion for the purchase of Airbus and Boeing jets, valued at $1.78 billion and $1.3 billion respectively. Airbus bared that ILFC seeks to buy up to 16 aircraft, which may include 10 ultra-long-range A340-500/600s powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 500 engines and six A320 family aircraft. The ILFC order also includes six Boeing 757-200s, one 767-300ER and nine 737-800s.

British Airways is seeing broad operating flexibility with its order for a new fleet of A320s and extended range version of the Boeing 777. The firm, which deemed the new fleet will change the way it serves some markets, intends to extend its A320 buy to include its Deutsche BA and Air Liberte divisions. Such a move would give BA fleet commonality, cost and maintenance efficiencies across its European operation.

British Airways has decided to place an order for as many as 188 A320-family regional aircraft worth $9 billion from Airbus. BA placed firm orders for 59 of the Airbus aircraft, along with options for another 129 of the aircraft, instead of next-generation Boeing 737s. However, BA placed firm orders for 16 and 16 option 777-200s from Boeing under a $5-billion agreement. Meanwhile, BA also selected International Aero Engines for the provision of the V25000 power to the Airbus jets it has decided to order.
