Capacitated lot-sizing and scheduling problem under disruption environment is a frequently encountered problem in manufacturing industry. This paper focuses on dealing with the case that the disruption is caused by machine breakdowns. Such case frequently arises during the process of the execution of a planned schedule. As a result, a reschedule needs to be applied, and then the decision-maker naturally may compare the reschedule results with the original one. Rather than from the conventional cost-saving perspective, this paper makes comparison from the attitude or the human behaviour perception of decision-makers towards the deviation from the original schedule. A non-linear mixed integer programming model is constructed with the objective of minimising the negative deviation based on the Prospect Theory, a psychologically more accurate description of decision-making. The non-linear term introduced by the Prospect Theory is approximately linearised by a series of piecewise linear segments. Then, an MIP-based fix-and-optimise algorithm is proposed to solve the approximated MIP problem. In numerical experiments, the impacts of several key factors of the proposed model and algorithm are explored. Two adjustment policies are compared, and the trade-off between cost saving and minimisation of the human behaviour perception deviation of decision-makers is discussed as well. Purpose: To evaluate the morphologic and hemodynamic changes of bulbar conjunctival vessels in thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy (TAO) patients and the correlations with the activity. Methods: Patients diagnosed as TAO with different clinical activity scores (CAS) and healthy participants were recruited. All subjects underwent a complete ophthalmic examination and functional slit-lamp biomicroscope. Vascular variables including the vessel density, vessel complexity, average diameter, blood flow velocity and blood flow rate in microvascular networks were measured. The correlations among microvascular parameters, CAS and exophthalmos were analyzed. Areas under the receiver operating characteristic curves (AUROCs) were applied to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of microvascular alterations for active TAO. Results: A total of 46 eyes were enrolled in our study. The vessel complexity and blood flow velocity increased in the active TAO group significantly compared with the inactive group and healthy controls (P <.05). Meanwhile, the vessel complexity and blood flow rate were positively correlated with CAS (r = 0.641 and r = 0.526). Bulbar conjunctival microvascular parameters performed a good ability in distinguishing the active stage of TAO (AUROC = 0.793). Conclusions: Increasing bulbar conjunctival vessel complexity and blood flow were evident in TAO with severe inflammation. The measurements of bulbar conjunctival microvasculature could be a reference to evaluate activity in TAO. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose/Aim: To determine the associations among socioeconomic factors, delay in management, and high-risk histopathologic features in eyes primarily enucleated for retinoblastoma. Materials and Methods: A single-site survey was conducted from January 2016 through January 2018. Eyes primarily enucleated for unilateral retinoblastoma were reviewed for the presence of high-risk histopathologic features. Information on clinical characteristics, socioeconomic factors, and lag time were collected during hospitalization. Results: Of the 138 children analyzed, 60 (43.5%) carried high-risk histopathologic features. Compared to children with a standard risk, those with a high risk had a longer median lag time before treatment (21.5 vs 15.0 days, P =.007), but their overall lag time (54.0 vs 50.0 days, P =.062) and delay in the initial visit (7.0 vs 10.0 days, P =.782) were comparable. Logistic regression analysis showed that children with a lag time ≥ 30 days were at a significantly higher risk of extraocular invasion (odds ratio [OR] = 2.38 and 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.08–5.37 for treatment delay; OR = 2.12 and 95% CI = 1.01–4.62 for overall delay). Neither high-risk histopathologic features nor lag time was associated with any demographic or major socioeconomic factors, including sex, age at diagnosis or enucleation, ethnicity, household income, parents' education level, medical insurance coverage, and left-behind status. Conclusions: For children with advanced unilateral retinoblastoma, there is no statistical difference in overall lag time between standard and high-risk groups. Major socioeconomic parameters have little impact on the delay and histopathologic outcomes, thus implying that children with varied socioeconomic status may be at a similar risk of advanced tumor invasion. Large-scale disasters and catastrophic events typically result in a significant shortage of critical resources, posing a great challenge to allocating limited resources among different affected areas to improve the quality of emergency logistics operations. This article pays attention to the performance of resource allocation, which includes three metrics: efficiency, effectiveness, and equity, respectively corresponding to economic cost, service quality, and fairness. In particular, the effectiveness metric considers human suffering by depicting it as deprivation cost, an economic valuation measurement that has been recently proposed and the equity metric concerns about the service equality at the end of planning horizon. A nonlinear integer model is first proposed and then an equivalent dynamic programming model is developed to avoid the nonlinear terms created by the introduction of the deprivation cost. The dynamic programming method can solve small-scale problems to optimality but meets difficulty when solving medium- and large-scale problems, due to the curse of dimensionality. Therefore, an approximate dynamic programming algorithm, called the rollout algorithm, is proposed to overcome this computational difficulty. The computational complexity of the proposed algorithm is theoretically analyzed. Furthermore, a modified version of the rollout algorithm is presented, with its computational complexity analyzed. Extensive numerical experiments are conducted to test the performance of the proposed algorithms, and the experimental results demonstrate that the initially proposed rollout algorithm yields optimal or near-optimal solutions within a reasonable amount of time. Purpose: To compare the clinical effects of different cycles of carboplatin, etoposide, and vincristine (CEV) regimens of adjuvant chemotherapy in postenucleation high-risk patients with IRSS Stage I retinoblastoma (RB). Methods: A retrospective analysis of 53 RB patients hospitalized in the Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center of Sun Yat-sen University was performed. All patients had unilateral involvement, received enucleation treatment, were diagnosed as RB by pathology, and had high-risk pathological factors. Patients either refused postoperative chemotherapy or received three or six cycles of CEV regimen chemotherapy. The clinical information, treatment, and results of patients in all groups were compared. Results: A total of 19 cases refused postenucleation chemotherapy, 18 cases received three cycles, and 16 cases received six cycles of the CEV regimen chemotherapy. The 5-year disease-free survival rate and the overall survival (OS) rate in the chemotherapy group were higher than those in the non-chemotherapy group (97.1% vs. 63.2%, p = 0.001) and were not different between the three-cycle chemotherapy group and the six-cycle chemotherapy group (94.4% vs. 100%, p = 0.35). Conclusion: After eye enucleation for patients with high-risk unilateral RB, the CEV regimen chemotherapy was associated with a higher survival rate. The three-cycle CEV regimen adjuvant chemotherapy was effective and is expected to replace the six-cycle CEV regimen chemotherapy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective. This study aimed to investigate the protective effects of echinacoside, one of the phenylethanoids isolated from the stems of Cistanche salsa, a Chinese herbal medicine, on D-galactosamine (GalN) and lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced acute liver injury in mice. Methods. We administered GalN (650 mg/kg) together with LPS (30 μg/kg) to mice by intraperitoneal injection to induce acute liver damage. Echinacoside (60 mg/kg) was given intraperitoneally to mice at 1 h prior to GalN/LPS exposure. Mice were sacrificed at different time points following GalN/LPS treatment, and the liver and blood samples were collected for future analysis. Results. It showed that GalN/LPS treatment produced severe hepatic injury, evidenced by significantly elevated plasma alanine aminotransferase (ALT) levels and abnormal histological changes such as hepatocyte necrosis or apoptosis, hemorrhage, fatty degeneration, and neutrophil infiltration. Notably, pretreatment with echinacoside remarkably improved the survival rate of GalN/LPS-treated mice and attenuated acute hepatotoxicity, as demonstrated by decreased ALT levels and improved histological signs. Echinacoside shows both anti-apoptotic and anti-inflammatory properties, characterized by a substantial inhibition of hepatocyte apoptosis and a significant reduction in the inflammatory markers, including myeloperoxidase, extracellular nucleosomes, high-mobility group box 1, and inflammatory cytokines in the plasma of mice, which may be important mechanisms related to its protective effect. Conclusion. Our results suggest that echinacoside can provide a pronounced protection against GalN/LPS-induced acute liver injury in mice, which may complement the available strategies for management of acute liver damage in clinical settings. Purpose: Dysthyroid optic neuropathy (DON) is the most severe condition in thyroid eye disease (TED); however, no study has been conducted to assess quality of life in these patients to date. The aim of this study was to evaluate vision-related quality of life in TED patients with DON using a Chinese version of the 25-item National Eye Institute Visual Function Questionnaire (CHI-VFQ-25). Methods: The CHI-VFQ-25 scores were compared for 23 TED patients with DON and 13 TED patients without DON. The correlations between the clinical characteristics and subscale scores on the CHI-VFQ-25 and the floor and ceiling effects of the CHI-VFQ-25 were also assessed. Results: Patients with DON scored significantly lower than patients without DON on the CHI-VFQ-25 (composite score: 54 versus 77, respectively, p = 0.001). Many subscales were significantly correlated with the severity and activity of the disease ( p < 0.05). In patients with DON, no floor effects were found, and ceiling effects were only observed for Color vision, Peripheral vision and Social function. Role limitations and Mental health were the lowest scores in all the subscales. Conclusions: The current study showed that vision-related quality of life tended to be more severely impaired in TED patients with DON than in patients without DON. PurposeMethodsResultsConclusionThe aim of this study was to analyze the characteristics of CT-measured intersection angle (FB-BNLD) between the frontal bone and bony nasolacrimal duct and to provide suggestions for treating primary acquired nasolacrimal duct obstruction (PANDO) patients in West China.Three hundred and nine participants’ CT were, respectively, evaluated with RadiAnt DICOM Viewer. We defined the FB-BNLD angle >0° as the anterior type and the FB-BNLD angle ≤0° as the posterior type.The mean FB-BNLD was −2.52° (95% CI, −3.16° to −1.88°) across all participants, of whom 37.2% were of the anterior type and 62.8% of the posterior type. Approximately 65.0% of the female patients had a posterior FB-BNLD type, and 54.2% of the male patients had an anterior FB-BNLD type (p = .002). Posterior FB-BNLD was the dominant type in the PANDO and control groups (p = .011), and the angle of FB-BNLD was statistically different in both groups (PANDO group, −2.54° to −0.71°; control group, −4.42° to −2.67°; p < .001). Among the male participants, the type of FB-BNLD differed between the two groups (p = .036), with differences in the angle of FB-BNLD (PANDO group, 0.59° to 5.13°; control group, −4.08° to 1.89°; p = .034). There was no difference in the type of FB-BNLD in female participants between the two groups (p = .051).The present study revealed individual differences in the type of FB-BNLD, with anterior-type majority in males and posterior-type dominance in females. Evaluating the FB-BNLD type on CT can provide a fast method for knowing the nasolacrimal duct condition during planning for lacrimal manipulation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
