Honey bees are vital pollinators in agriculture and important model insects. To understand the genetic and molecular aspects in their development, a reverse transcription quantitative polymerase chain (RT-qPCR) is used to investigate the target genes. However, it is essential to use the appropriate reference genes as endogenous controls for accurate normalization of target genes. To identify stable reference genes in two honey bee species, [Apis mellifera (Am) and Apis cerana (Ac)], we evaluated eight candidate reference genes including, actin, atub, ef1α, gapdh, rpl13a, rpl32, rps18 and tif. Worker bees belonging to the two species were collected at each developmental day during the embryonic and postembryonic developmental stages. The tyrosine hydroxylase (th) gene was used as the target gene to validate the selected reference genes. Our results revealed that rpl13a was the most stable reference gene at all developmental stages of Am and Ac. In addition, gene combinations, including Amrpl13a & Amrps18 & Amactin, Amrpl13a & Amrpl32, Acrpl13a & Acrpl32, Acrpl13a & Acrpl32 & Acef1α followed by other combinations effectively normalized the expression of the target genes during the embryonic and postembryonic developmental stages of Am and Ac, respectively. Two pairs of new isobenzofuranone derivative enantiomers, (±)-penicifurans E (1) and (±)-penicifurans F (2), together with four know compounds (3–6) were isolated from the solid fermentation of Penicillium canescens DWS225. The structures of these enantiomers were elucidated by extensive NMR spectroscopic data, and their absolute configurations were assigned by the experimental and calculated ECD data. A novel brain-targeted and reactive oxygen species-activatable manganese dioxide containing nanoparticle system functionalized with anti-amyloid-β antibody (named aAβ-BTRA-NC) developed by our group has shown great promise as a highly selective magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) contrast agent for early detection and multitargeted disease-modifying treatment of Alzheimer's disease (AD). To further evaluate the suitability of the formulation for future clinical application, we investigated the safety, biodistribution, and pharmacokinetic profile of aAβ-BTRA-NC in a transgenic TgCRND8 mouse AD model, wild type (WT) littermate, and CD-1 mice. Dose-ascending studies demonstrated that aAβ-BTRA-NC was well-tolerated by the animals up to 300 μmol Mn/kg body weight [b.w.], 3 times the efficacious dose for early AD detection without apparent adverse effects; Histopathological, hematological, and biochemical analyses indicated that a single dose of aAβ-BTRA-NC did not cause any toxicity in major organs. Immunotoxicity data showed that aAβ-BTRA-NC was safer than commercially available gadolinium-based MRI contrast agents at an equivalent dose of 100 μmol/kg b.w. of metal ions. Intravenously administered aAβ-BTRA-NC was taken up by main organs with the order of liver, kidneys, intestines, spleen, followed by other organs, and cleared after one day to one week post injection. Pharmacokinetic analysis indicated that the plasma concentration profile of aAβ-BTRA-NC followed a 2-compartmental model with faster clearance in the AD mice than in the WT mice. The results suggest that aAβ-BTRA-NC exhibits a strong safety profile as a nanotheranostic agent which warrants more robust preclinical development for future clinical applications. Hsisosuchus, with three known species, was the most common genus of crocodyliforms in the Sichuan Basin during the Jurassic. However, the overall shape of the ventral trunk shield of osteoderms has not been clarified due to the lack of complete specimens. A new specimen of Hsisosuchus recently recovered from the Upper Jurassic of Yunnan has the nearly complete ventral trunk shield preserved. This specimen provides an example for the first time for us to understand the shape and the way of the arrangement of the osteoderms in the ventral trunk shield in the genus. Compared with the articulated part of the ventral trunk shield preserved in two of the three species of the genus, the osteoderms of the ventral trunk shield of the new specimen are different in both shape and way of arrangement, indicating that the pattern of the ventral trunk shield is not constant within Hsisosuchus. With no skull and much of the postcranial skeleton poorly preserved as well as no corresponding element that can be used to compare with all the three species, the new specimen was considered as an indeterminate species of Hsisosuchus, awaiting more materials to clarify the problem. Two novel sesquiterpenes and one new monoterpene, together with eight reported compounds were isolated from dichloromethane–soluble extract of the aerial part of Artemisia tournefortiana Reichb. Their relative and absolute structures were elucidated based on the analysis of 1D and 2D NMR spectra, HRESIMS, and calculated electronic circular dichroism (ECD). Two sesquiterpenes (1 and 2) showed no inhibition effect in anti-inflammatory and cytotoxic activity tests. Three new terpenes (1–3) were tested for antibacterial activity, compounds 2 and 3 showed moderate antibacterial activities with minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) between 264 and 556 μg/ml. In the context of a binary treatment, matching is a well-established approach in causal inference. However, in the context of a continuous treatment or exposure, matching is still underdeveloped. We propose an innovative matching approach to estimate an average causal exposure-response function under the setting of continuous exposures that relies on the generalized propensity score (GPS). Our approach maintains the following attractive features of matching: (a) clear separation between the design and the analysis; (b) robustness to model misspecification or to the presence of extreme values of the estimated GPS; (c) straightforward assessments of covariate balance. We first introduce an assumption of identifiability, called local weak unconfoundedness. Under this assumption and mild smoothness conditions, we provide theoretical guarantees that our proposed matching estimator attains point-wise consistency and asymptotic normality. In simulations, our proposed matching approach outperforms existing methods under settings with model misspecification or in the presence of extreme values of the estimated GPS. We apply our proposed method to estimate the average causal exposure-response function between long-term PM 2.5 exposure and all-cause mortality among 68.5 million Medicare enrollees, 2000–2016. We found strong evidence of a harmful effect of long-term PM 2.5 exposure on mortality. In order to analyze and evaluate the stability of lumbar spine and the risk of cage subsidence after different minimally invasive fusion operations, two finite element models Percutaneous endoscopic posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PE-PLIF) and minimally invasive transforaminal lumbar interbody Fusion (MIS-TLIF) were established. The results showed that compared with MIS-TLIF, PE-PLIF had better segmental stability, lower pedicle screw rod system stress, and lower risk of cage subsidence. The results suggest that the cage with appropriate height should be selected to ensure the segmental stability and avoid the risk of the subsidence caused by the cage with large height. To investigate the cognition of cancer warning symptoms and cancer risk factors among Chinese college students, analyze the influencing factors, and explain the correlations between cancer cognition and cancer symptom discrimination, cancer fear and psychological distress. Chinese college students were recruited in this cross-sectional study funded by a summer social practice activity in Yunnan Province, China. Cognition rates of cancer warning symptoms and cancer risk factors were evaluated using Cancer Warning symptoms Cognition Questionnaire (CWSCQ) and Cancer Risk Factors Cognition Questionnaire (CRFCQ), respectively. Factors associated with cognition of cancer warning symptoms, and factors associated with cognition of cancer risk factors were evaluated using multiple linear regression analysis. Interactions between cancer cognition, cancer symptom discrimination, psychological distress, and cancer fear were evaluated by structural equation modeling. There were 846 effective samples, with an effective rate of 80.9%. The cognition rates of cancer warning symptoms were from 47.9% to 84.4%, which were affected by cancer symptom discrimination, education, attitudes towards cancer screening, living expenses, drinking history, and ways to obtain cancer knowledge (p < 0.05). The cognition rates of cancer risk factors were from 46.3% to 91.3% in participants, which were affected by education, cancer symptom discrimination, psychological distress, attitudes towards cancer screening, life satisfaction, cancer history in relatives and friends, ways to obtain cancer knowledge, smoking history, and nursing history for cancer patients (p < 0.05). Cancer cognition and cancer symptom discrimination showed intermediary effects on psychological distress and cancer fear (p < 0.001). The overall cancer cognition situation among Chinese college students is not optimistic, which highlights the necessity of improving the cancer health literacy among Chinese college students. With the increasing morbidity and mortality rates of cancer, it is necessary to raise awareness of early detection, and early treatment of cancer among the general public. Bile acids play crucial roles in various metabolisms, as well as Lactobacillus in the intestine. But studies on their roles in acute coronary syndrome (ACS) are still insufficient. The aim of this study was to investigate their role and potential association with the severity of coronary lesions and the prognosis of ACS. Three hundred and sixty ACS patients were selected. Detection of gut Lactobacillus levels was done through 16S rDNA sequence analysis. Evaluation of the extent of lesions was done using the SYNTAX (SS) score. Mediation analysis was used to assess the relationship between serum total bile acid (TBA), Lactobacillus, atherosclerotic lesions and prognosis of ACS. Logistic regressive analysis disclosed that serum TBA and Lactobacillus were independent predictors of coronary lesions (high vs. low SS: serum TBA adjusted odds ratio (aOR) = 0.8, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.6–0.9, p <.01; Lactobacillus: aOR = 0.9, 95% CI: 0.9–1.0, p =.03). According to multivariate Cox regression analysis, they were negatively correlated with the overall risk of all-cause death (serum TBA: adjusted hazard ratio (aHR) = 0.1, 95% CI: 0.0–0.6, p =.02; Lactobacillus: aHR = 0.6, 95% CI: 0.4–0.9, p =.01), especially in acute myocardial infarction (AMI) but not in unstable angina pectoris (UAP). Ulteriorly, mediation analysis showed that serum TBA played an important role as a mediation effect in the following aspects: Lactobacillus (17.0%, p <.05) → SS association (per 1 standard deviation (SD) increase), Lactobacillus (43.0%, p <.05) → all-cause death (per 1 SD increase) and Lactobacillus (45.4%, p <.05) → cardiac death (per 1 SD increase). The lower serum TBA and Lactobacillus level in ACS patients, especially in AMI, was independently linked to the risk of coronary lesions, all-cause death and cardiac death. In addition, according to our mediation model, serum TBA served as a partial intermediate in predicting coronary lesions and the risk of death by Lactobacillus, which is paramount to further exploring the mechanism of Lactobacillus and bile acids in ACS. Lower level of serum total bile acid (TBA) was highly associated with the severity of coronary lesions, myocardial damage, inflammation and gut Lactobacillus in acute coronary syndrome (ACS) patients, especially in acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Lower level of serum TBA was highly associated with mortality (including all-cause death and cardiac death) in patients with ACS, especially with AMI. The value of plasma Platelet-Derived Growth Factor (PDGF) as a biomarker in predicting major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) in patients with acute non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) remains unclear. A total of 242 patients with NSTEMI were enrolled in this observational cohort study. The correlation between PDGF and MACEs was evaluated during a five-year follow-up. Kaplan–Meier survival analysis with Cox proportional-hazards regression was used to identify predictive values of PDGF. The mean follow-up of NSTEMI patients was 1334 days. It was found that as the PDGF level increased, a significant uptrend in the incidence of MACEs and all-cause death, including the MACEs of 30 days, 180 days, 1 year, 5 years and the death of 1 year and 5 years (All Log-rank p <.05). Subgroup analysis further showed that PDGF had better predictive value for patients with age >65 years, GRACE score ≥140 and platelet count (PLT) >200 × 109/L. PDGF levels can predict short-term and long-term MACEs in NSTEMI patients after discharge, especially for patients with older age, higher GRACE score and baseline PLT > 200 × 109/L. PDGF is a risk factor for short- and long-term MACEs in patients with STEMI. PDGF has a better prognostic value in patients with older age and PLT > 200 × 109/L. During urgent-start peritoneal dialysis (USPD) in end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients, both adequate dialysis and skill training for fluid exchange are essential. However, automated peritoneal dialysis (APD) alone or manual fluid exchange peritoneal dialysis (MPD) alone could meet the above demands. Therefore, our study combined APD with MPD (A-MPD), and compared A-MPD with MPD, aiming to find the most appropriate treatment mode. This was a single-center, prospective, randomized controlled study. All eligible patients were randomized into the MPD and A-MPD groups. All patients underwent a five-day USPD treatment 48 h after catheter implantation, and they were followed up for six months after discharge. Overall, 74 patients were enrolled in this study. Among these, 14 and 60 patients quit due to complications during USPD and completed the study (A-MPD = 31, MPD = 29), respectively. Compared with MPD, the A-MPD treatment mode had a better effect on removing serum creatinine, blood urea nitrogen, and potassium and improving serum carbon dioxide combining power levels; it had less time expenditure on the fluid exchange by nurses (p < 0.05). In addition, patients in the A-MPD group had higher scores on the skill tests than those in the MPD group (p = 0.002). However, no significant differences in short-term peritoneal dialysis (PD) complications, PD technical survival rate, or mortality were found between the two groups. We know of five cases of cervical nerve root variants that have been reported, all of which were found during posterior cervical surgery. We reported two cases of cervical nerve root variants. One had two anomalous branches of the C7 root, is the other had a C5, C6 nerve root communication branch. A 62-year-old female presented with neck and right upper extremity pain, accompanied by hypaesthesia in her right forearm for 4 months. Preoperative X-ray film, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT) scan demonstrated C6-7 uncovertebral joint hyperplasia and foraminal stenosis. She underwent posterior cervical endoscopic foraminoplasty. The right C7 nerve root was observed to have two anomalous branches originated from a proximal trunk. After the surgery, the symptoms resolved. A 54-year-old female presented with radiating pain and numbness in her right arm and hand for 4 months. Preoperative MRI showed a C5/6 intervertebral disc herniation. She had hypaesthesia in radial side of her right arm and 1st–3rd fingers. Posterior cervical endoscopic foraminalplasty was performed for the patient. After decompression of the bony wall of the posterior nerve root canal, a 2-mm thick communicating nerve was observed emerging from the dura with the C6 nerve root and exiting to the caudal level. After the surgery, the symptoms resolved immediately. Cervical nerve root variant may be more apparent on edoscopic approaches to the cervical foraminae than at open surgery. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Yangtze River Delta and Pearl River Delta are two regions with the highest level of economic development in China, and their port development is at the forefront of the country. This study measures the efficiency of 23 major ports in the two deltas from 2010 to 2018 using the meta Dynamic Directional Distance Function (D.D.F.) model and discusses the technology gap and the reasons for inefficiency of the ports. The research results show that 80% of the ports in these two deltas are inefficient. The Yangtze River Delta's port efficiency is higher than that of the Pearl River Delta, but the internal efficiency difference of the Yangtze River Delta port cluster is more significant. The efficiency ranking of most ports is inconsistent under the meta-frontier (M.F.) and group frontier (G.F.), and the average technology gap ratio (T.G.R.) of ports in the Pearl River Delta gradually exceeds that in the Yangtze River Delta. The inefficiency of ports in the Pearl River Delta is caused by input factors, and the inefficiency of ports in the Yangtze River Delta is also related to the containerisation level. Sustainable supply chain management plays an important role in company's sustainability success. As the frequently emerging disruptions may harm supply chain's sustainable performance, managers need to design an effective sustainable supply chain (SSC) resilience solution to mitigate different risks. In addition, it is critical to integrate customer requirements (CRs) in SSC resilience solution design as SSC's performance is highly determined by customer satisfaction (CS) in the customer-oriented market. This article proposes an integrative approach to achieve an effective design of SSC resilience solution, taking both CRs and risk factors (RFs) into consideration. In this study, the Kano model, decision-making and trial evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) are integrated with quality function deployment (QFD) through nonlinear programming to guide companies' design. Kano model is employed to analyse CRs qualitatively and quantitatively to determine each CR's priority and CS. DEMATEL is adopted to determine the RFs' interrelationships. The results obtained with the Kano model and DEMATEL are incorporated into QFD to transform CRs into RFs, and then into resilience measures. Furthermore, a nonlinear optimisation model is formulated to achieve the optimal resilience solution with maximised CS and risk mitigation under minimum cost investment. The thermal red-shifts of R1-line for Cr3+-doped Bi2Al4O9 and Bi2Ga4O9 crystals are analyzed with a complete equation containing not only the dynamic factor (used previously) due to electron–phonon interaction, but also the static factor caused by lattice thermal expansion. From the analysis, the static parameters A (charactering the static factor), the more reasonable electron–phonon coupling parameters α ′ (charactering the dynamic factor) and hence the more accurate quadratic coupling constants w for the two crystals are gained. It is found that the static factors are about 17% and 9% of the dynamic factors for Bi2Al4O9: Cr3+ and Bi2Ga4O9: Cr3+ crystals, respectively. So, in the accurate and reasonable analysis of R1-line thermal shifts in the two crystals (or other spectral line thermal shifts in crystals), the static factor needs to be considered and the complete equation including both factors should be adopted. The annual burden of severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) is enormous, and environmental factors may have a vital role in respiratory infections. This study aimed to investigate the potential effects of the atmospheric environment on SARI. A time-series analysis was performed on the relationship between atmospheric environment and 136,989 SARI cases by distributed lag non-linear model. Wind speed, PM10, PM2.5, O3, and CO exhibited differential effects at a range of lag times or exposure ranges. Air pressure, temperature, and diurnal temperature range showed risk effects in the full range. The lag effect of high pollution was stronger, appeared earlier, and lasted longer than that of low pollution. Most environmental factors had a certain non-linear lag relationship with SARI. Metabolic disorder is highly related to obesity, insulin resistance, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia. The present study found that astragaloside IV (ASI) attenuated metabolic disorder related symptoms and modulated hepatic lipid metabolism associated gene mRNA expression in db/db mice. ASI inhibited rosiglitazone-induced adipocyte differentiation of 3T3-L1 cells, and lipid accumulation in palmitic acid (PA)-induced HepG2 cells with down-regulated mRNA expression of lipogenesis-related genes. In addition, it was predicted to bind to the ligand binding domain (LBD) of PPARγ and inhibit its transactivity. Bartlett, Hongnanguo, Korla Xiangli, Dangshansuli and Housui are representative cultivars from the five cultivated pear species that were chosen to identify aromatic compounds in fruit during developmental, mature and storage periods. We explored the expression levels of aroma formation-related genes during developmental and storage periods. The concentrations of the aromatic compounds first decreased, then increased in all five cultivars. For the climacteric pears, Bartlett and Hongnanguo, the increase continued to optimal sensory quality (OSQ), whereas those for the non-climacteric pears, Korla Xiangli, Dangshansuli and Housui decreased. Aldehydes contributing the 'green' odour and 1,4-benzoquinone were the primary components during early and middle developmental periods. Esters contributing the 'fruity' and 'sweet' odour, were the primary components in Bartlett, Hongnanguo and Korla Xiangli fruits during storage and at OSQ. Methyl- and ethyl-(E, Z)-2,4-decadienoate (pear-like odour), ethyl caproate (liquor odour), and hexyl acetate (fruity odour) were the key characteristic odorants in mature pear fruits of Bartlett, Hongnanguo and Korla Xiangli, respectively. Alcohol dehydrogenase (PbrADH-1 and PbrADH-2) and lipoxygenase (PbrLOX3) might participate in the formation of C6 and C9 volatile aldehydes and alcohols. Microbial enhanced oil recovery (MEOR) is an important tertiary recovery technology to recover oil, especially heavy oil, from reservoirs. However, MEOR often fails to achieve satisfactory oil recovery in the field applications because of utilization of unsuitable microorganisms and nutrients. Recent studies proved the existence of microbes inside oil ("oil-phase" microbes) and their potential for application in MEOR. To validate this concept, we isolated microbes from the "oil-phase" of crude oil samples. With them, a synthetic four-member microbial consortium K, was selected to use in an experiment of core flooding, which showed a beneficial capacity for improving oil recovery. Furthermore, the consortium K and nutrients were applied in a field trial of microbial huff and puff in an extra heavy oil recovery. Results demonstrated the incremental cumulative oil production of two high water-cut (99%) shut-in wells reached 1078.8 t and 791.6 t, respectively, with the effective period of 14 months, while the viscosity of heavy oil had significantly declined decreased by 50%. In conclusion, our findings clearly demonstrate that the great potential of a novel methodology to use indigenous "oil-phase" microbes as seedbanks for improving oil recovery in extremely viscous oil reservoirs with high water-cut. Plant non-specific lipid transfer proteins (nsLTPs) are a group of small, cryptic proteins that can reversibly bind and transport hydrophobic molecules. Studies have shown that nsLTPs can play important roles in various plant physiological processes, such as the transport of cuticular lipids, cutin synthesis, pathogen defence and abiotic stress responses. To date, a comprehensive analysis of the nsLTP gene family is still lacking in pear and other sequenced Rosaceae species. Here, 338 nsLTP genes were identified in eight Rosaceae fruit species, including 58 nsLTPs in Chinese white pear. The nsLTP family genes could be divided into four groups based on a detailed phylogenetic analysis and classification criteria in model plants. Multiple characteristics of 58 nsLTP genes in Chinese white pear were analysed, including their phylogeny, conserved motifs, chromosome locations, and cis-elements in the promoter sequences. Based on both RNA-Seq and qRT–PCR analyses, it was predicted that Pbr041771.1 might participate in cuticular wax translocation. The subcellular localisation results showed that Pbr041771.1 was localised in the plasma membrane. Promoting coproduction is critical in emergency responses. This study introduces the concept of psychological capital (PsyCap) to the field of coproduction within emergency context and further empirically investigates the association of PsyCap and engagement in coproducing emergency responses. Data collected from 5721 respondents in Chinese communities of 10 provincial regions were analyzed using logistics regression. The results demonstrate that PsyCap is positively associated with engagement in coproducing emergency responses. Familiarity with community epidemic prevention positively moderates the relationship between PsyCap and engagement in coproducing emergency responses. Satisfaction with community emergency response plays a full mediation role while trust in community emergency response plays a partial mediation role in the relationship between PsyCap and engagement in coproducing emergency responses. The higher the PsyCap citizens have, the more satisfaction and trust toward the community epidemic prevention they have, which further increases residents' engagement in coproducing emergency response to the epidemic. The findings provide empirical evidences that PsyCap is essential for involving citizens in coproducing emergency responses. In this study, a (Ti + graphite)-Ni composite powder serving as a coating material was deposited on H13 steel to fabricate an in-situ TiC-reinforced Ni-based composite coating by a new type of ESD process, which was named ultrasonic-assisted electrospark powder deposition (UEPD). The composite coating has an average thickness of approximately 45.5 μm and metallurgically bonds with the substrate. The ultrasonic vibration exerted on the UEPD electrode can effectively improve the forming quality of the composite coating, which produces better compactness and thickness uniformity as well as few defects. The microstructure mainly consisted of submicron dendrites due to the rapid solidification of the molten pool. TiC particles as reinforcements were successfully synthesized in the coating via an in-situ reaction due to their low Gibbs free energy and high melting point. The formation of refined grains and in-situ reinforcements prompts the average hardness of the coating to reach 1400.5 HV0.05, which is approximately 2.5 times that of the substrate. The tribological properties of the composite coating are greatly improved in comparison with those of the substrate. Mechanical obstruction is the most common cause of shunt failure for hydrocephalic patients. However, the diagnosis is extremely challenging and often requires invasive testing methods. Thus, a simple and non-invasive technique is in urgent need to predict the intracranial pressure (ICP) of hydrocephalic patients during their post-surgical follow-up, which could help neurosurgeons to determine the conditions of the shunt system. Two groups of patients were enrolled in the current study. In group I, patients were enrolled as they were diagnosed with high ICP hydrocephalus and received shunt surgery. The shunt valve pressures were taken for their post-surgical ICP. Meanwhile, the participants of group II exhibited abnormally increased lumbar puncture opening pressure (LPOP; from 180 to 400 mmH2O). Both the ICP and LPOP were used to match with their corresponding tympanic membrane temperature (TMT). When patients' ICP were in the normal range (group I, from 50 to 180 mmH2O), the TMT correlated with ICP in a linear regression model (R2 = 0.59, p < 0.001). Interestingly, when patients exhibited above-normal ICP (LPOP was from 180 to 400 mmH2O), their TMT fit well with the ICP in a third-order polynomial regression (R2 = 0.88). When the ICP was 287.98 mmH2O, the TMT approached the vertex, which was 38.54 °C. Based on this TMT-ICP algorithm, we invented a non-invasive ICP monitor system. Interestingly, a tight linear correlation was detected between the ICP data drawn from the non-invasive device and Codman ICP monitoring system (R2 = 0.93, p < 0.01). To develop a Fear of Cancer Scale (FOCS) for non-cancer populations. FOCS was developed by classical measurement theory. A total of 15 college students were invited to conduct semi-structured interviews. Seven experts were invited for expert consultation. A total of 2012 Chinese college students who had completed the electronic questionnaire on WJX.cn platform was included. The reliability and validity of FOCS were verified. Multiple linear regression analysis was adopted to explore the influencing factors of cancer fear among college students and further verify the validity of FOCS. There were 17 items in the FOCS, including two subscales – direct fear (8 items), and indirect fear (9 items). FOCS had good validity and reliability. Multiple linear regression showed that GAD-7 score, CSDS score, negative coping score, positive coping score, guardian's highest education, gender, life satisfaction, nationality and major were the influencing factors of cancer fear (p <.05). This study aimed to determine the prevalence of and risk factors associated with BV(bacterial vaginosis, BV), VVC (vulvovaginal candidiasis, VVC) and TV (trichomonal vaginitis, TV) among non-pregnant women. Among 770 women included in analyses, surveyed using a questionnaire and subsequently diagnosed with BV, VVC and TV via Gram staining and vaginal swab microscopy. Vaginal infections were prevalent in 31.30%, with BV being the most prevalent (21.35%). Single-variable analysis revealed that an age of 20–29 years (odds ratio [OR] = 2.31, 95% CI: 1.24–4.29; p =.007) and lack of education (OR = 0.50, 95% CI: 0.28-0.89; p =.018) were significantly associated with BV. However, an age of 30–39 years was significantly associated with VVC (OR = 2.12, 95% CI: 1.03–4.38; p =.038). Multivariable analysis confirmed that miscarriage was an independent predictor of BV and VVC. Miscarriage was significantly associated with the incidence of BV and VVC (OR = 1.680, 95% CI: 1.146–2.462; p =.011 and OR = 2.04, 95% CI: 1.30–3.20; p =.002, respectively). In conclusion, BV appears to be the predominant cause of vaginitis, risk factors for vaginitis include age and level of education and miscarriage. What is already known on this subject? Inflammation of the vagina, or vaginitis, is caused by various infectious and non-infectious factors. The most common causes of infectious vaginitis are BV, VVC and TV. Kunming located at the southwestern border of China, However, there is still no systematic research investigating the status of vaginitis infection in Yunnan Province. Therefore, the present study aimed to determine the prevalence of these vaginal infections; BV, VVC, and TV, among women of childbearing age, and to assess the prevalence of vaginal infections and the associated risk factors. Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a heterogeneous autoimmune disorder characterized by disturbed cellular and humoral immune responses. Dysregulations of immune system and immunosuppressive medications predispose SLE patients to infection. This study aims to investigate the alterations and absolute concentrations of lymphocyte subpopulations in SLE patients with different infection and their responses of low-dose IL-2 therapy. A total of 333 patients with SLE without recent infection, 162 patients suffering infection, and age and sex-matched 132 healthy controls (HCs) were recruited. Of them, 54 SLE patients (including 41 non-infected group and 13 infected group) received a 5-day course of low-dose IL-2 administration at a dose of 0.5 million IU per day. Lymphocyte subpopulations were analyzed by flow cytometry. Patients with SLE had lower levels of lymphocyte subpopulations in peripheral blood such as T, B, NK, CD4 + T, CD8+ T, Th1, Th2, Th17, and Treg cells, and the reduction in these cells was more obvious in patients with infection (p <.05 to p <.01). Low-dose IL-2 effectively expanded T (p <.001), B (p <.001), CD4 + T (p <.01), CD8 + T (p <.001), Th1 (p <.01), Th17 (p <.1), and Treg cells (p <.01) of SLE patients, these cells were comparable to that of HCs after the IL-2 treatment. Patients with SLE had insufficiency of circulating lymphocyte subsets. This phenomenon was more obverse in those accompanying infection, suggesting the low concentration of lymphocytes may be used as indicators of high infection risk in SLE patients. Ischemic stroke is a major cause of death in the global population, with a high disability and mortality rate. Lack of regenerative ability is considered to be the fundamental cause. This study aims to determine the effect of Shh pathway, which mediates regenerative signaling in response to CNS injury, on myelin repair and Olig1 expression in focal ischemic lesions in the rat. A model of middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) was established using the intraluminal suture method where the middle cerebral artery (MCA) was restricted for 120 min. Cyclopamine, a specific inhibitor of Shh, or saline was administered 12h after MCAO surgery and lasted for 7d. After MCA occlusion, male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly allocated to cyclopamine- or saline-treated groups. A group of no-injection animals after MCAO were used as control. The Shh signaling pathway, myelinogenesis-related factor MBP and Olig1 were tested using immunohistochemistry and RT-PCR assay. The levels of Shh and its component Gli1 were elevated from 1d up to 14d following ischemia, indicating that the Shh-Gli1 axis was broadly reactivated. Treatment with cyclopamine can partially block the Shh signaling pathway, prevent myelin repair, and decrease the Olig1 expression following ischemic stroke. That blockade of Shh signaling concurrently with the creation of a lesion aggravated ischemic myelin damage, probably via its downstream effects on Olig1 transcription. To investigate post-traumatic growth induced by COVID-19 pandemic in certain Yunnan residents and to analyze its influencing factors. A total of 581 permanent residents of Yunnan province completed the electronic questionnaire from 18 April 2020 to 26 April 2020. Logistic regression analysis showed that the educational levels, self-perceived health status, family history of infectious diseases, family history of infectious diseases, personality and frequency of going through COVID-19 related news were influencing factors of PTG (P < 0.05). As a traumatic event, the threat of COVID-19 may enable some people to gain positive psychological development in adversity. To investigate the effect of laparoscopic surgery in colorectal cancer (CRC) patients with natural orifice specimen extraction (NOSE) on the recovery and quality of life (QOL) of patients. Ninety-two eligible patients were randomly assigned into two groups: the traditional laparoscopy group (L group, n = 46) and the laparoscopic transanal specimen extraction group (NL group, n = 46). General data, surgery-related indicators, postoperative recovery, and prognosis were compared and analyzed between the two groups. A total of 46 patients in each group were enrolled in this study. The general data and surgery-related indicators were comparable between the two groups (all p >.05). There were no significant differences in the time of first flatus, bleeding, obstruction, constipation, and infectious complications between the two groups (all p >.05). The differences in the incidence of postoperative diarrhea, pain degree, and satisfaction on the aesthetics of the abdominal wall showed significant differences (χ2 = 6.133, p =.013; χ2 = 12.116, p =.017; χ2 = 13.463, p =.004). The postoperative follow-up time was 3–53 months. There were no significant differences in the postoperative hospital stay, medical costs, hospital readmission rate, incidence of incisional hernia, overall survival, disease-free survival, and QOL between the two groups (all p >.05). A simple dynamic positioning (DP) system has been developed for the scaled model of a novel twin-lift decommissioning operation. Such a decommissioning solution involves the two semi-submerged vessels transporting the topside to another vessel. And it requires the synchronised motion of the two topside-carried vessels at a low speed, under the environmental disturbances. In order to ensure efficiency and safety, model tests with a scaling factor of 1:37 have been carried out in the wave tank. The DP system in the experiment consists of a 3-Degree of Freedom (3DoF) motion equation, a Proportional–Integral–Derivative (PID) controller and a thrust allocation algorithm. This paper investigates the motion response of each vessel under the random wave and constant wind of different angles, to assess the low-speed manoeuvring performance. In this paper, bis (indol-3-yl) methanes (BIMs) were synthesised and evaluated for their inhibitory activity against α-glucosidase and α-amylase. All synthesised compounds showed potential α-glucosidase and α-amylase inhibitory activities. Compounds 5 g (IC50: 7.54 ± 1.10 μM), 5e (IC50: 9.00 ± 0.97 μM), and 5 h (IC50: 9.57 ± 0.62 μM) presented strongest inhibitory activities against α-glucosidase, that were ∼ 30 times stronger than acarbose. Compounds 5 g (IC50: 32.18 ± 1.66 µM), 5 h (IC50: 31.47 ± 1.42 µM), and 5 s (IC50: 30.91 ± 0.86 µM) showed strongest inhibitory activities towards α-amylase, ∼ 2.5 times stronger than acarbose. The mechanisms and docking simulation of the compounds were also studied. Compounds 5 g and 5 h exhibited bifunctional inhibitory activity against these two enzymes. Furthermore, compounds showed no toxicity against 3T3-L1 cells and HepG2 cells. A series of bis (indol-3-yl) methanes (BIMs) were synthesised and evaluated inhibitory activities against α-glucosidase and α-amylase. To investigated the association between single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in microRNA-146a (miR-146a) gene and susceptibility of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). We systemically extracted the genetic data of miR-146a from previous genome-wide association studies (GWASs) of RA. Subsequently, we performed a replication study in an independent Chinese cohort for selected variant. A meta-analysis combined the previous GWASs with the replication study was also conducted. The epigenetic annotation and cytokine assay were used for exploring potential variant function. The extracted genetic association data from three previous GWASs showed that the allele T of functional SNP rs2431697 increased RA susceptibility. The significant association for the SNP was also found in the Chinese replication cohort (OR = 1.24, 95% CI = 1.06–1.46, p = 8.69E-03). The estimated effect size for this SNP was larger in Asian population than that in European population (Asian meta-analysis: OR = 1.15, 95% CI = 1.09–1.22, p = 4.37E-07; Tran-ethnic meta-analysis: OR = 1.07, 95% CI = 1.04–1.10, p = 1.79E-06). The cytokine assay also showed that the risk allele T of the SNP rs2431697 is inversely associated with plasma TNF-α levels in health controls (p =.016). Macroautophagy/autophagy plays an important role during the development of human cancer. BECN1 (beclin 1), a core player in autophagy regulation, is downregulated in many kinds of malignancy. The underlying mechanism, however, has not been fully illuminated. Here, we found that CUL3 (cullin 3), an E3 ubiquitin ligase, could interact with BECN1 and promote the K48-linked ubiquitination and degradation of this protein; In addition, CUL3 led to a decrease in autophagic activity through downregulating BECN1. We also found that KLHL38 was a substrate adaptor of the CUL3 E3 ligase complex-mediated ubiquitination and degradation of BECN1. In breast and ovarian cancer, CUL3 could promote the proliferation of tumor cells, and the expression of CUL3 was related to poor prognosis in patients. Our study reveals the underlying mechanism of BECN1 ubiquitination and degradation that affects autophagic activity and subsequently leads to tumor progression, providing a novel therapeutic strategy that regulates autophagy to combat cancer. Evidence has shown that effects from inflammation and mitochondrial dysfunction lead to pyroptosis and apoptosis of nucleus pulposus (NP) cells. Damaged mitochondria release dangerous molecules such as reactive oxygen species (ROS), activating the NLRP3 inflammasome. SS-31 is a mitochondria-targeting peptide that has been used in the treatment of many diseases by scavenging ROS and ameliorating mitochondrial function. This study found that SS-31 ameliorated lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced loss of cell viability, ROS production, and apoptosis in NP cells. Moreover, mitochondrial dynamics and ATP synthesis were restored on pretreatment with SS-31 compared with the LPS group. For the molecular mechanism research, SS-31 stabilized mitochondrial morphology and inhibited the activation of the NF-κB pathway and the activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome. To evaluate whether the inhibition of NLRP3 inflammasome activation by SS-31 is dependent on the clearance of mitochondrial ROS, we comparatively analyzed the activation of NLRP3 inflammasome in NP cells pretreated with SS-31 and the ROS scavenger N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC). The results indicate that SS-31 could inhibit NLRP3 inflammasome activation by limiting the production of mitochondrial ROS. To sum up, our results revealed that SS-31 inhibits LPS-induced apoptosis, pyroptosis, and inflammation in NP cells via scavenging ROS and maintaining the stability of mitochondrial dynamics, which could be considered a promising therapeutic intervention for disk degeneration. Social integration plays a key role in the quality of life of the elderly who move from a rural to an urban area (land-lost elderly), and successful urban integration is known to develop harmony and age-friendly society. Very few studies are concerned with incorporating subjective as well as objective elements into measuring social integration levels of land-lost elderly. In this study, we measured and compared social integration levels between different neighbourhoods of land-lost elderly. We found land-lost elderly in the public housing neighbourhoods, and compared to the commodity housing elderly, they have a higher level of social integration in three aspects: having positive attitudes towards urban life, having high participation rate in activities, and participating activities with neighbours. This is because the elderly living in public housing have neighbours from similar socio-demographic groups and have more social interactions. In addition, the built environments are closely related to social integration levels of the elderly in both neighbourhoods, but effects in the two neighbourhoods present a few differences; the improvement in social environments can greatly facilitate social integration of elderly living in public and commodity housing neighbourhoods, especially for improvement in social contacts with neighbours. The PEDOT/TiO2 nanocomposites with different TiO2 particle sizes were fabricated by a simple soft chemical approach-assisted in situ synthesis route and used as an effective cathode of Li-S batteries. When the TiO2 particle size was 5 nm, the discharge capacity of the cells is the best and the initial discharge capacity is 859.7 mAhg−1, within 300 charge–discharge cycles at 1 C. The improvement on cells electrochemical performance is attributed to the TiO2 particles well dispersed in the PEDOT, and the PEDOT creates integral electronic conductive net-work and prevent soluble long-chain polysulphides diffuse into the liquid electrolyte during the charge–discharge processes. To explore the influence of sexuality-related factors on recent two-week morbidity and annual hospitalization in female migrant workers, 880 Chinese rural-to-urban female migrant workers aged 16–57 years were studied. Clustered logistic regression analyses revealed that women who never or seldom experienced lubrication difficulties had a lower risk of recent two-week morbidity (adjusted odds ratio [OR] = 0.32, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.17–0.60, P< 0.001; adjusted OR = 0.35, 95% CI = 0.18–0.69, P= 0.003) than those who always experienced lubrication difficulties; women who never felt a lack of sexual interest had a significantly lower risk of annual hospitalization (adjusted OR = 0.40, 95% CI = 0.20–0.79, P= 0.009) than those who always or seldom lacked sexual interest, and women who never felt sexual satisfaction had a higher risk of annual hospitalization (adjusted OR = 3.08, 95% CI = 1.75–5.42, P< 0.001) than those who always or seldom experienced sexual satisfaction. The independent contributions of sexuality-related factors to the risk of recent two-week morbidity and annual hospitalization were 5.8% and 29.5%, respectively. The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical results of a Bi-needle technique and conventional transforaminal endoscopic spine system (TESSYS) technique for percutaneous endoscopic lumbar discectomy (PELD) in treating patients with intervertebral disc calcification (IDC). PELD has gained acceptance for treating patients with IDC. The Bi-needle technique was designed to improve the efficiency and safety of PELD. Bi-needle and TESSYS group within each cohort were balanced using 1:1 propensity score matching. Finally, 32 patients with IDC treated by Bi-needle technique from December 2015 to September 2017 were enrolled and 25 patients treated by TESSYS technique from the same spine surgery center between January 2013 and October 2017 were enrolled as controls. Propensity score matching generated 22 Bi-needle and 22 TESSYS patients. There were no significant differences in visual analog scale and lumbar Japanese Orthopaedic Association scores between Bi-needle and TESSYS group. Operative time and rate of complications in the Bi-needle was significantly better than the TESSYS group (p < 0.01). Both surgical methods achieved good clinical outcomes. To facilitate sustainable agriculture in the acidic soil in the southern region of China, reducing inorganic fertiliser in combination with an alkaline humic acid fertiliser amendment (HAFA) was investigated on key physicochemical properties of acid growth media and cherry tomato growth. Five treatments were established: 100% rate of the local conventional inorganic fertiliser, reduced application of inorganic fertiliser (30, 50, and 70% inorganic fertiliser application, w/w) combined with HAFA, and an unfertilised treatment as the control. HAFA increased medium pH by 0.39–0.75 compared with the 100% inorganic fertiliser treatment. In addition, medium organic matter and acid phosphatase, invertase, and polyphenol oxidase activity increased significantly following amendment. In addition, increased plant height, stem diameter, root length, leaf Soil and Plant Analysis Development values, plant biomass accumulation, and nutrient uptake were observed under 30–50% inorganic fertiliser treatment in combination with 1.0–1.4 mL of HAFA. Greater transfer factor ratios of N, P, and K were observed following amendment. Reducing inorganic fertiliser proportions did not significantly alter fruit shape index, single-fruit weight, or fruit quantity per plant. The cofferdam of the tidal flats behind Changxing Island was studied to explore the seepage–stress coupling properties of the cofferdam on a soft clay foundation under a storm surge attack. A numerical model coupling multiple influencing factors was established, which included tidal changes, wave loading, surges, soil strength degradation, and seepage effects. In addition, the dam global stability was investigated. The results showed that the permeability coefficient of the dam determined the magnitude and distribution of the seepage field during tidal level fluctuations. The tidal flood and ebb changed the periodic displacement of the dam body. When accounting for the wave loading applied on the cofferdam, the strength-weakening effect of the soil foundation induced by the wave cyclic load could produce additional displacement in the static and dynamic analysis of the dam. A stress-concentrated area was evident at the slope foot and hillslope in the coupled-field dam model that included the seepage force. The influence factors played important roles on the stress field, displacement field, and global stability. By comparing the calculated results and data, the established model and calculation method were validated, and the results are of theoretical and practical interest for predicting cofferdam resistance to storm surges. Zinc (Zn) contamination in soil has been a serious problem world widely. Plant growth-promoting bacterium (PGPB) could have potential applications in Zn bioremediation. In this study, Burkholderia pyrrocinia strain JK-SH007 had a high tolerance to Zn and was able to produce indole acetic acid and siderophore, to solubilize inorganic phosphate. And it was found to promote tomato growth and tolerate to high concentration of Zn. We employed a novel combination of transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and scanning electron microscopy with electron dispersive X-ray analysis (SEM-EDX) for understanding the mechanism of Zn toxicity on plant tip morphology, ultrastructure and bacterium protection tomato cell. The high Zn soil supplement was highly toxic to the plants, biomass decreased, root growth inhibited, shoots rotted and chlorisis induced. 'JK-SH007ʹ improved the relative tolerance of tomato to Zn, enhanced Zn sequestration, alleviated the associated plant damage relative to PGPB-free controls. As an important semi-essential amino acid, l-arginine is extensively used in the food and pharmaceutical fields. At present, l-arginine production depends on cost-effective, green, and sustainable microbial fermentation by using a renewable carbon source. To enhance its fermentative production, various metabolic engineering strategies have been employed, which provide valid paths for reducing the cost of l-arginine production. This review summarizes recent advances in molecular biology strategies for the optimization of l-arginine-producing strains, including manipulating the principal metabolic pathway, modulating the carbon metabolic pathway, improving the intracellular biosynthesis of cofactors and energy usage, manipulating the assimilation of ammonia, improving the transportation and membrane permeability, and performing biosensor-assisted high throughput screening, providing useful insight into the current state of l-arginine production. Phytic acid is the biocompatible and environment-friendly organic acid with excellent chelating ability of heavy metal ions due to it contains 6 phosphate groups. In this study, the PU/phytic acid nanofibrous membrane has been successfully produced by electrospinning which was used for Pb2+ removal. Though phytic acid would improve the hydrophilicity and reduce the mechanical properties to a certain extent, the phytic acid-modified PU nanofibrous membrane still possessed excellent mechanical properties. The PU/phytic acid nanofibrous membrane achieved the highest adsorption capacity (136.52 mg/g) of Pb2+ under the condition of the pH of Pb2+ solution was 6 and the adsorption temperature and time were 20°C and 10 h which was over 6 times higher the unmodified one's (21.06 mg/g). These results demonstrated that the electrospun PU/phytic acid nanofibrous membrane could obtain high adsorption capacity of Pb2+ and it would achieve the potential application in the fields of the removal of heavy metal ions. Indications and clinical outcomes of percutaneous endoscopic thoracic discectomy(PETD) in treating thoracic disc herniation is rarely reported and still controversial. We reported an unsatisfied recovery of thoracic disc herniation with PETD, treated by a second posterior thoracic laminectomy and Ponte osteotomy. A male presented with lower extremity weakness and stagger caused by T3/4 intervertebral disc herniation. The upper thoracic curve was in excessive kyphosis with T2-5 Cobb angle of 34.3 degrees. The preoperative ODI score was 34 and Roelzs's JOA score was 14. Percutaneous transforaminal endoscopic thoracic discectomy (PETD) from a posterior lateral approach was performed. At five-month follow-up, his thoracic back pain and staggering gait did not improve. The postoperative T2-5 Cobb angle was 32.1 degrees, the ODI score was 24 and Roelzs's JOA score was 14. A second posterior thoracic decompression this time with fixation was performed, but no disc herniation was detected. A Ponte osteotomy was performed to correct the kyphosis. One month after the second surgery, muscle strength of the lower limbs was improving with the T2-5 Cobb angle decreased to 19.4 degrees, the ODI score decreased to 10 and Roelzs's JOA score increase to 16. Six month later, the ODI score decreased to 0 and Roelzs's JOA score improved to 18. In review of the literature, PETD doesn't guarantee the patient a satisfactory neurological recovery for kyphotic thoracic disc herniation. Posterior decompression with Ponte osteotomy may be beneficial to release the tension and decompression of the spinal cord tension. Thoracic disc herniation with kyphosis angle >20 degrees (T2-5), percutaneous endoscopic thoracic discectomy is not likely to get good neurologic results. Posterior laminectomy with ponte osteotomy might be beneficial for these patients to induce dorsal drifting of the spinal cord from anterior herniation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The freshwater gastropod Tarebia granifera (Lamarck, 1816) is found in Taiwan, Hainan, and Guangdong provinces in China, and is one of the main intermediate hosts of trematodes that infect humans. The taxonomic positions of some cerithioidean families are still unclear, and whole mitochondrial genome studies are scarce in the Thiaridae. In this study, we describe the complete mitogenome of Tarebia granifera (Lamarck, 1816). The mitogenome is 15,555 bp in length, with a total of 37 genes, including 13 protein-coding genes, 2 rRNA genes, and 22 tRNA genes. It is consistent with the essential features of previously studied mitochondrial genomes of species belonging to the superfamily Cerithioidea. Our study demonstrates the usefulness of mitogenomic data for resolving phylogenetic relationships of families within Cerithioidea and may also contribute to the prevention and control of the parasitic diseases caused by trematodes, which use T. granifera as an intermediate host.
