This study examines how Chinese consumers' awareness, knowledge, and attitudes influences their purchasing behavior for organic rice. The aim is to determine whether regional differences in these factors and in the resulting behavior exist and thereby, to provide the organic rice industry with sufficient information to expand its market and improve profitability. Respondents answered a total of 1,371 questionnaires, whereby 406, 539, and 426 responses came from inland, coastal, and northern regions, respectively. A binary logit regression is applied to analyze the survey data and predict purchasing behavior at the national and regional levels. While the results indicate that consumer awareness, product certification, and product availability factors have a positive impact on the likelihood of purchasing organic rice, the price has a negative relationship with organic rice consumption. Furthermore, the results demonstrate that northern consumers are more likely to buy organic rice than those in inland and coastal regions. In particular, awareness and knowledge factors have a greater influence on purchasing behavior in northern regions. Brainstem gliomas are usually associated with serious dysfunction and poor prognosis especially for diffuse intrinsic brainstem gliomas; however, the reasons are still unclear. Some clinical studies have suggested that the invasive ability may be different among brainstem gliomas, and the dysfunction of β-catenin and E- and N-cadherin appears to be connected with tumor invasion and progression. In this study, the expression of β-catenin and E- and N-cadherin was detected in 40 brainstem glioma samples using immunochemistry and was further analyzed in 18 samples using reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction. The clinicopathological characteristics were also analyzed. The results show that there was no obvious staining for E-cadherin, but weak expression at the messenger RNA (mRNA) level could be seen in a few samples. The protein and mRNA expression levels of β-catenin and N-cadherin were significantly associated with the pathological grades of brainstem gliomas. No significant differences in the expression levels of β-catenin and N-cadherin were observed for age, sex, location or diffuse growing pattern. The overall survival of patients with low β-catenin expression was longer than that with high β-catenin expression, and there was a trend toward increased expression of N-cadherin with shorter survival; however, both of them had no statistical differences. These results demonstrate that expression of β-catenin and N-cadherin is associated with the malignant progression of brainstem gliomas but not correlated with the diffuse and invasive growing pattern. β-catenin and N-cadherin are potential therapeutic targets and prognostic markers for brainstem glioma, which need to be validated in a larger patient cohort. Liaoceratops is a small basal neoceratopsian dinosaur from the Early Cretaceous Jehol Biota of western Liaoning, China. Because its postcranial skeleton is lacking, its behaviour and palaeoecology remain poorly understood. By using computed tomography (CT), we reconstructed the cranial endocast and endosseous labyrinths of an adult individual of Liaoceratops yanzigouensis (PMoL-AD00097). Analysis and comparisons indicate that the brain, olfactory bulb and inner ear of adult Liaoceratops more closely resemble those observed in adult specimens of the basal ceratopsian Psittacosaurus than those in more derived ceratopsians. The relatively large olfactory bulb, discernible floccular lobes, and relatively long semicircular canals suggest that the adult Liaoceratops had a keen sense of smell, a well-developed sensory input for the reflexive stabilisation of gaze and posture, and a nearly horizontal head posture. Based on its relatively short cochlear ducts, adult Liaoceratops likely vocalised at and heard more efficiently to relatively high frequencies than the derived ceratopsian Pachyrhinosaurus and Triceratops. The relatively well-developed semicircular canals suggest that adult Liaoceratops was agile biped and had a similar locomoter mode with adult Psittacosaurus. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Recently, a new fossil site containing microvertebrate remains has been discovered in the upper part of the Nenjiang Formation (early Campanian) in the Songliao Basin, northeast China. Five isolated theropod teeth were discovered. The teeth were analysed based on morphological traits and the results showed that they correspond to the clades of Troodontidae, Dromaeosauridae and ?Tyrannosauridae. One dromaeosaurid tooth can be furtherly assigned to Dromaeosaurinae. It is the first discovery of theropod teeth from the Nenjiang Formation, also the first record of the Dromaeosaurinae from China. This study extends the known geographic range of these clades of theropods. The new materials also expand knowledge of the terrestrial ecosystem during the Late Cretaceous of the Songliao Basin. Through a series of experiments of dynamic deformation and destruction under time series loading on an indoor real model bridge, Ground-based real-aperture radar interferometry (GB-InRAR) discovered that before the structure of the bridge was damaged, its amplitude and acceleration increased with the increase of load; After its structure was damaged or cracked, such dynamic characteristics as natural frequency, damping ratio, stiffness and bearing capacity decreased obviously. Moreover, GB-InRAR dynamic load monitoring of Xiangtan Railway Bridge and Inter-city Railway Bridge. In the process of vehicle dynamic load, such important parameters as bridge deflection, natural frequency and damping ratio conform to the bridge loading procedures and dynamic characteristics. The results show that the GB-InRAR can accurately measure the deflection changes, natural vibration frequency and spectrum characteristics of bridges, and it can be used as effective means of the dynamic characteristics analysis in the safety detection and health evaluation of bridges. We describe a new taxon of advanced ornithuromorph bird, Khinganornis hulunbuirensis gen. et sp. nov., from the previously unreported Pigeon Hill locality of the Lower Cretaceous Longjiang Formation in the northern Greater Khingan Range area of Inner Mongolia, China. A cladistics analysis resolves K. hulunbuirensis as the sister group of a clade formed by Changzuiornis and Iteravis among ornithuromorphs. The osteohistological analysis indicates that K. hulunbuirensis is the first ornithuromorph that maintained an uninterrupted growth during a longer period characterised by slow deposition of low-vascularised and terminal avascular bone tissue. The relatively long hindlimbs and elongate pedal digits with long proximal phalanges suggest a wading and amphibious ecology for the new bird. The discovery of K. hulunbuirensis represents the first occurrence of Jehol birds in the Greater Khingan Range and documents the northernmost known geographic distribution of the celebrated avifauna in China. Wildfires are a significant problem for power line maintenance that can lead to widespread power outages and economic loss in China. Remote sensing (RS) and geographic information system (GIS) technologies and their derived applications are effective tools for power line surveillance and disaster prevention. Using multi-source data and remote-sensing techniques, a risk assessment of wildfire occurrence in high-voltage power line corridors in Hubei Province, China, is presented in this study. Both natural and human causes are considered in the assessment, including a traditional Chinese spring custom. Historical ignition points along power line corridors in Hubei Province that occurred from 2009 to 2014 were collected as training data to create a quantitative analysis. Next, a logistic regression model was applied, and ignition probability maps were produced for power lines. Several wildfire accidents that occurred in 2015 were used as validation data to evaluate the performance of the proposed method. The experimental results indicated that the drought conditions significantly influenced wildfires as natural cause, and human activities play important roles in causing wildfires during specific time periods. The effectiveness and robustness of our method is thereby demonstrated, and our method can be used to provide valuable suggestions for wildfire management for the electrical department in Hubei Province. Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) of rhodamine 6G was investigated on template-embedded gold nanorods produced by anodic aluminum oxide template-assisted nanofabrication. A signal enhancement of about 106was obtained. Two-dimensional arrays of gold nanospheres with different diameters and gap sizes were used as simplified model systems.
