This study developed an approach to simulate short-term post-fire vegetation recovery by integration of LANDFIRE data products, the differenced normalized burn ratio (DNBR) data, and LANDISv4.0a modeling. Combination of DNBR and LANDFIRE data products provided information on burn severity, pre-fire existing vegetation types, vegetation composition and structure, and the biophysical gradients that affect the distribution of ecosystem components. Such critical information established the initial states for LANDIS parameterization and simulation modeling. We tested the simulation at the Sanford Fire site, which is within the Dixie National Forest in Utah state and has 31,579 hectares of burned forested land by a 2002 wildfire. The simulation was at 30-meter cell size, at one-year time interval, and at 10-year duration. The results indicated that integration of LANDFIRE data products, DNBR data, and LANDISv4.0a modeling provided the necessary data sets and modeling mechanism for updating vegetation maps affected by wildfires. 1. The effect of daidzein, a naturally occurring phytoestrogen, on the reproductive performance of 120 female Zhedong White geese was determined. The geese were divided into 4 groups which were fed on diets containing 0 (Control), 10 (Da1), 20 (Da2) and 30 (Da3) mg daidzein per kg diet. Egg production and weight, fertility and hatchability rates, concentrations of estradiol (E2), triiodothyronine (T3), progesterone (P4), thyroxine (T4) and growth hormone (GH) in serum, and mRNA levels of gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH), β-follicle stimulating hormone (FSHβ), follicle stimulating hormone receptor (FSHR), oestrogen receptor1 (ESR1), oestrogen receptor2 (ESR2), prolactin (PRL), prolactin receptor (PRLR), and glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) in the hypothalamus-pituitary-gonadal axis (HPGA) were measured. 2. Daidzein increased egg weight and fertility but had no detectable effect on egg production and hatchability. 3. Daidzein affected serum P4and GH concentrations and T4rhythm, up-regulated GnRH mRNA and PRLR mRNA levels in the hypothalamus, down-regulated PRLR mRNA in the hypothalamus, PRL mRNA in the pituitary, and ESR2 mRNA levels in the ovary, respectively. The mRNA rhythms of PRLR in the hypothalamus, PRL, PRLR and FSHβ in the pituitary, FSHR, ESR1 and ESR2 in the ovary were significantly changed in the Da2 group. 4. It is suggested that an appropriate dose of daidzein might improve reproductive performance by affecting serum hormone concentrations and rhythms and regulating gene mRNA levels in the HPGA of female Zhedong White geese. We have explored the capacity of Cu/V interfaces to absorb helium ion radiation-induced defects spanning a peak damage range of 0.6–18 displacements per atom (dpa). The study provides evidence of alleviated nucleation of He bubbles in the multilayer films from Cu/V 50 nm to Cu/V 2.5  nm. Layer interfaces are retained in all irradiated specimens. Peak bubble density increases monotonically with fluence, and is lower in multilayers with smaller individual layer thickness. Radiation hardening decreases with decreasing layer thickness and appears to reach saturation upon peak radiation damage of 6 dpa.
