AbstractPrevious studies have shown that institutional trust is associated with people’s support for some environmental policies (e.g., support for higher taxation) but not others (e.g., support for subsidies and bans). Such findings seem to contradict the notion that institutional trust helps to resolve social dilemmas and thus facilitates collective action on environmental problems. In the current study, we use the conceptual framework of the attitudinal theory of the Campbell paradigm to understand the lack of institutional trust as a behavioral cost of policy support which counterweights people’s motivation to support a policy. Using a dataset from the Environmental module of a recent ISSP survey conducted in 28 countries, we corroborated the theoretical prediction, namely the expected positive effect of institutional trust on support for both pro- and anti-environmental policies. We also corroborated, albeit with some qualifications, that the choice of environmental policy depends on perceived behavioral costs exemplified, in our study, by institutional trust. The Campbell paradigm provides a useful analytical framework for understanding the role of trust in environmental policy support. The ethanol extracts of 16 Czech medicinal plants, namely, Allium sativum L. (Alliaceae), Artemisia absinthium L. (Asteraceae), Artemisia vulgaris L. (Asteraceae), Carum carvi L. (Apiaceae), Consolida regalis Gray (Ranunculaceae), Cucurbita pepo L. (Cucurbitaceae), Daucus carota L. (Apiaceae), Dryopteris filix-mas (L.) Schott (Dryopteridaceae), Erigeron canadensis L. (Asteraceae), Hedera helix L. (Araliaceae), Inula helenium L. (Asteraceae), Juglans regia L. (Juglandaceae), Satureja hortensis L. (Lamiaceae), Tanacetum vulgare L. (Asteraceae), Thymus vulgaris L. (Lamiaceae), and Valeriana officinalis L. (Valerianaceae), have been tested for their potential in vitro anthelmintic effect against eggs Ascaris suum and infectious larvae Trichostrongylus colubriformis. The extracts of A. sativum, A. absinthium, C. carvi, D. carota, and J. regia possessed the strongest anthelmintic effect on the embryonating eggs at all concentrations tested (62.5, 125, 250, 500, 1000, 2000 μg/mL). The best results, showing a higher effect against the infective third-stage larvae in comparison with synthetic anthelmintic Zentel (albendazole), have been obtained for A. sativum, A. absinthium, C. carvi, C. regalis, I. helenium, J. regia, S. hortensis, and V. officinalis. Recently developed single-root multireference Brillouin-Wigner coupled-cluster (MR BWCC) theory, which deals with one state at a time while employing a multiconfigurational reference wave function, is applied to study the rotational barrier of the N2H2 molecule. The method represents a brand new coupled-cluster (CC) approach to quasi-degenerate problems which combines merits of two approaches: the single-reference CC method in a nondegenerate case and the Hilbert space MR CC method in quasi-degenerate case. The method is able to switch itself from a nondegenerate to a fully degenerate case in a continuous manner, thus providing smooth potential energy surfaces. Moreover, in contrast to the Hilbert space MR CC theory, it does not contain the so-called coupling terms and in a highly nondegenerate case it reduces to a standard single-reference CC method. In order to better judge the abilitiesof our new approach, we study the rotation barrier of the N2H2 molecule at the CCSD level and the results are compared with the single-reference CCSD and Hilbert space MR CCSD methods. The rotation of the N2H2 molecule from a trans - to cis-conformer represents a typical two- state problem in which the weights of reference configurations can change from 0 to 1 in a continuous manner and, in contrast to the H4 models, it represents a real system.
