The Clarke River Shear Zone marks the boundary between the Thomson and Mossman orogens in the northeastern Tasmanides. To better understand the kinematic history of this east-northeast-trending shear zone, and its role during the tectonic history of eastern Gondwana, we investigated rock deformation along a segment of the Clarke River Shear Zone. Based on field observations, interpretation of aeromagnetic data and microstructural analysis, we show that the Clarke River Shear Zone experienced at least three phases of reactivation. Gently plunging stretching lineation and kinematic indicators, such as steeply plunging asymmetric folds and asymmetric porphyroclasts, correspond to an early phase of sinistral strike-slip ductile shearing. Subsequent general dextral shear deformation is suggested based on the presence of S-tectonites, symmetric porphyroclasts and kinematic indicators with dominant dextral and subordinate sinistral shear senses. This phase, which occurred under amphibolite-facies metamorphic conditions, was contemporaneous with the emplacement of the Craigie Tonalite, for which we obtained a new zircon U–Pb crystallisation age of 410.3 ± 1 Ma. A later reactivation phase along the Clarke River Shear Zone, under brittle conditions, is indicated by the presence of cataclasite zones and chlorite–epidote alteration. Based on our findings, and regional information on the tectono-magmatic evolution of northeastern Queensland, we suggest that the Clarke River Shear Zone was possibly a sinistral transform fault during the Silurian. During the Devonian, it is possible that deformation along the Clarke River Shear Zone was related to the transition between the non-retreating subduction zone in the north, and the highly mobile (retreating) plate boundary farther south. However, the dextral kinematic component associated with this deformation is not fully explained. Brittle deformation, likely associated with dextral transpression during the Carboniferous, marked the last stage of activity along the Clarke River Shear Zone. The Clarke River Shear Zone records three phases of reactivation during the Silurian–Carboniferous. Ductile dextral general shear deformation along the Clarke River Shear Zone occurred at ca 410 Ma, based on zircon U–Pb dating of a syn-tectonic intrusion. The U–Pb detrital zircon record of the Surat Basin, an important part of the Great Australian Superbasin, has already revealed important insights about sediment source terranes. However, owing to the high closure temperature of zircons, low-temperature thermal events that might have impacted the sediment are not recorded. Here, new 40Ar/39Ar detrital mica ages, which record low-temperature events as a result of isotopic resetting, are paired with published U–Pb detrital zircon ages from the same samples to provide a more complete interpretation of the tectonic and thermal history of the Jurassic-age Precipice Sandstone and Evergreen Formation. The 40Ar/39Ar geochronology of mica grains from five wells reveals two broad groups with distinct age populations: 1500–180 Ma and 150–45 Ma. Micas older than about 180 Ma are sourced from multiple terranes. The slight discrepancy in ages between the 40Ar/39Ar and the U–Pb systems of the same samples may represent differences in closure temperature. However, some micas, such as those dating to ca 180 Ma, may also reflect a thermal reset event. Similarly, the younger group of micas, split into Cretaceous and Paleogene populations, reflect the impact of post-depositional thermal events on the basin. Isotopic resetting of the micas was likely the result of hydrothermal fluids migrating through reactivated faults, fractures and/or porous and permeable sediments. The origin of the fluids during the Cretaceous can be linked to an eastern subduction zone and subsequent igneous underplating resulting in uplift and denudation. The exact source of the hydrothermal fluids for the micas of Paleogene age, recorded in samples collected from the base of the Evergreen Formation, however, remains uncertain. Importantly, 40Ar/39Ar dating of mica from sandstones permits the detection of post-depositional thermal events that may have implications for tracing fluid migration throughout the basin and reconstructing the Cretaceous–Paleogene tectonic history of the basin. Combining 40Ar/39Ar dating of micas with U–Pb dating of zircons reveals a more complete tectonic and thermal history of the Jurassic-age Precipice Sandstone and Evergreen Formation of the Surat Basin. 40Ar/39Ar dating of detrital micas reveals two broad groups with distinct age populations: 1500–180 Ma and 140–45 Ma. Ages older than ca 180 Ma are linked to multiple source terranes, including the Thomson and New England orogens, and the contemptuous magmatic arc. The Late Mesozoic subduction of Izanagi slab beneath East Asia formed large-scale intraplate magmatism in SE South China and subduction mélanges outcropped in SW Japan to eastern Taiwan Island, but the accompanying arc remains uncertain. We conducted LA-ICP-MS U–Pb zircon dating and trace element analyses of proximal sandstones from the SW East China Sea to trace a Jurassic to Cretaceous magmatic arc. Newly acquired data reveal that arc magmatism mostly developed in episodes of 150–124 and 124–102 Ma, exhibiting characteristics of low-T, high Th/U, U/Yb, Sc/Yb, Th/Nb, and low Nb/Yb, Nb/Hf ratios. This magmatic arc, combined with the SE South China intraplate and residual subduction mélanges, spatially forms a Late Mesozoic trench–arc–intraplate architecture responding to the Izanagi subduction. Its identified tectonic scenarios mainly include slab strike-slip subduction (200–170 Ma), slab stagnation and intraplate foundering (170–150 Ma), slab rollback and arc-root removal (150–102 Ma), and arc migration (102–86 Ma). Both the western East China Sea and Cathaysia block share a unified Paleoproterozoic basement that formed at ca. 1.85 Ga, and the Cathaysia-based magmatic arc occurred then. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The timing of extensional events in northern Gondwana remains elusive. In relations to this event, a new zircon U-Pb age and Hf isotopic compositions, and whole-rock geochemistry provided here for the amphibolites in the basement unit of the Menderes Massif (MM) within the Anatolide-Tauride Block (ATB). LA-ICP-MS U-Pb zircon dating of one sample yielded a crystallization age of 367.0 ± 2.5 Ma, providing the first record of Late Devonian (Famennian) mafic magmatism in the Menderes Massif. This sample contains inherited zircon grains with ages spanning from 588 Ma to 541 Ma, likely sourced from late Neoproterozoic country rocks. Chondrite-normalized rare earth element patterns exhibit enrichment in light rare earth elements and flat patterns for heavy rare earth elements, suggesting affinities with tholeiitic EMORB and ocean island basalt. The geochemical data, coupled with the positive εHf(t) values ranging from 0.5 to 7.8, indicate that the amphibolite likely originated from juvenile melts generated by partial melting of the asthenospheric mantle. This melt was subsequently modified by crustal contamination and fractional crystallization. Contemporaneous EMORB- and OIB-like mafic rocks are identified in the eastern Taurides and Iran, respectively. Both regional geological and geochemical evidence proposes that Late Devonian magmatism in the Anatolide-Tauride Block occurred in a within-plate tectonic setting. This magmatic activity might have been triggered by the northward subduction of the Paleotethys beneath the Pontides during the Devonian, a process that would produce a slab-pull force, creating an extensional tectonic regime along the northern margin of Gondwana. The widespread occurrence of Carboniferous Wuluate Formation volcanic rocks in the West Kunlun is closely related to the evolution of the Paleo-Tethys but has received little attention. In this study, we conducted detailed fieldwork on the Wuluate Formation in West Kunlun and performed zircon U‒Pb dating, whole-rock major and trace element analysis, whole-rock Sr-Nd isotope analysis, and in situ zircon Hf isotope analyses. The Wuluate Formation is characterized by a bimodal volcanic suite. Zircon U‒Pb dating indicates that the rhyolites erupted at ca. 348–353 Ma, which is coeval with the zircon U‒Pb dating result of 354 Ma for the basalt. The basalts show a tholeiitic magmatic evolution trend with flattened REE patterns and depleted whole-rock Sr-Nd and zircon Hf isotopes, indicating geochemical affinity to back-arc basin basalt (BABB). Trace element modelling results indicate that the primitive basaltic compositions fit well with the products of the DMM + sediments + H2O source under melting conditions of asthenospheric temperature and thin lithosphere thickness, and the REE modelling results show that the basalts underwent 40% to 95% crystallographic differentiation of olivine, monazite, hornblende, plagioclase, and magnetite. The silicic rocks are calcic to calcic-alkaline and meta/peraluminous. They exhibit flattened REE patterns and slightly enriched zircon Hf isotopes, which could originate from Precambrian metaigneous sources of West Kunlun. The Kungai bimodal suite is likely to have formed in a back-arc setting corresponding to the northward subduction of Paleo-Tethys. The Sand River area is in the northeastern part of the Central Zone (CZ) of the Limpopo Belt, and represents a key terrane to reveal early Precambrian tectonic processes in southern Africa. Based on petrology, U–Pb zircon ages, and major and trace element data of high-pressure (HP) mafic granulites from the Sand River area, the tectonic evolution of the Central Zone of the Limpopo Belt is re-evaluated here that allows revision of previous interpretations. The protoliths of the HP mafic granulites and amphibolites are sub-alkaline tholeiitic basalts similar to those formed at a mid-ocean ridge and intruded at 2.8 Ga. Based on the distinct mineral assemblages, three metamorphic stages (M1–M3) are recognized in the studied samples: (1) a peak HP granulite facies stage M1 (~1.17–1.32 GPa/~825–870°C), (2) a post-peak near-isothermal decompression stage M2 (~0.70–0.73 GPa/~835–880°C), and (3) a later, independent metamorphic stage M3 (~0.53–0.69 GPa/~793–801°C). M1 and M2 define together a clockwise P–T path. It reveals important information related to the Neoarchean collisional orogeny, and its later overprinted by an independent orogeny with subsequent exhumation and cooling. U–Pb zircon dating of two mafic granulites samples yielded protolith formation of the mafic granulites is prior to ~2.72 Ga, and the two metamorphic age peaks of ~2.72 (M1) and ~2.0 Ga (M3), which present the peak and post-peak cooling stages, respectively. The metamorphic evolution of HP mafic granulites in the Sand River area as reconstructed in this study suggests the Neoarchean collision of the Kaapvaal and Zimbabwe cratons and a discrete Paleoproterozoic orogenic overprint followed by post-orogenic exhumation and cooling. The Central Africa Orogenic Belt (CAOB) and the Transaharan and Sergipano belts form a major West Gondwana suturing orogen affected by D1–D4 compressional deformation. Microstructural observations, mineral chemistry, zircon, and titanite laser ablation ICP-MS U-Pb dating, and biotite, muscovite, and K-feldspar 40Ar-39Ar age data are used to constrain the timing of rocks formation and D1–D4 events in the Yaoundé Domain of the CAOB, as well as characterize the Neoproterozoic-Cambrian transition. The Yaoundé Domain rocks were deposited on a pre-Neoproterozoic structure that was overprinted by a c. 1000–700 Ma mega arc/back-arc system and related Tonian to Ediacaran magmatism. Older U-Pb dates (1000 up to 2700 Ma) are inheritance from a pre-existing crust. The D1–D4 compressional events relate to the inversion of the c. 1000–700 Ma mega-rift system. New dates at c. 700 Ma, c. 630 Ma, c. 580–555 Ma constrain the timing of D1, D2, D3+D4, respectively. The peak of accompanying metamorphism occurred at 614 ± 4 Ma during D2. This was followed by a c. 115 Ma period of deformation-driven crustal exhumation and cooling that extended into the Cambrian. New data document short episodes of rapid denudation and cooling (up to 0.9 km/Ma and 40°C/Ma at c. 578 Ma in gneiss and up to 5 km/Ma and >125°C/Ma at c. 555 Ma in micaschist). It is proposed that the CAOB and correlative belts are parts of the orogenic hinterland formed from accretion and collision between the West African Craton and the Sahara Metacraton precursor. The correlated belts appear to represent the result of a protracted tectono-metamorphic and magmatic process that started in late Mesoproterozoic (c. 1167 Ma) and continued through the Neoproterozoic to the Cambrian (c. 500 Ma). The Cenozoic Sierra de San Carlos-Cruillas (SSCC) magmatic complex belongs to the Eastern Mexican Alkaline Province (EMAP). The SSCC mainly consists of plutonic and subvolcanic bodies displaying diverse lithological compositions. These rocks exhibit both OIB- and arc-like geochemical characteristics. In this contribution, we present new petrographic, geochemical, isotopic, and geochronological data of the Rincón Murillo Gabbro (RMG), situated in the southern part of the SSCC. The RMG is nepheline normative and displays an OIB-like intraplate character. Laser ablation ICP-MS U-Pb analyses on titanites yielded Oligocene (Rupelian) crystallization ages of 31.8 ± 1.8 and 31.0 ± 1.7 Ma. The 87Sr/86Sr(i) (0.703400–0.704159) and 143Nd/144Nd(i) (0.512732–0.512815) ratios indicate a mantle origin. Trace element data indicate the participation of different enriched mantle components in the source. One component is related to previous subduction processes, generating the HFSE-depleted arc-like magmas of San José Gabbro in the northern part of SSCC. The second component is related to deep mantle melts with a slightly carbonatitic signal and HFSE-enriched fluids derived from the subducted Hess conjugate plateau generating different enriched sources in the upper mantle under the SSCC. The passage, eclogitization, detachment and foundering of the Hess plateau gave rise to an asthenospheric upwelling that triggered the low to moderate partial melting degrees (3–15%) of an amphibole-bearing garnet peridotite, generating the OIB-like parental magmas of RMG, located in the southern part of SSCC. Two-component mixing, and AFC models indicate that variable degrees of crystal fractionation and minor crustal assimilation are involved in the evolution of Rincón Murillo Gabbro. The northern Andes are crucial for understanding the processes associated with the break-up of Pangea and its impact on the evolution of the Pacific margin of South America. Despite its importance, the origin and significance of mafic magmatism and its relationship with the Permian arc-related granitoids in the northern Andes remains controversial. To address this, we examined the Tierradentro gneisses and amphibolites, which comprise Permian-Triassic lithologies that may help resolve this controversy. Our study focuses on representative lithologies of the Central Cordillera of Colombia, including mylonitized granitoids, metabasites, metapelites, and serpentinites, to shed light on the history of the western margin of Gondwana during and after its break-up (~230 to 200 Ma). To investigate these lithologies, we conducted field observations, petrographic analyses, U-Pb dating of zircons, and whole-rock geochemical, Nd, Pb, and Hf isotopic analyses. Our results show that mylonitized mafic rocks with Triassic crystallization ages (ca. 236 Ma) intruded Permian granitoids. Furthermore, these mafic and felsic rocks were intruded by Jurassic calc-alkaline batholiths. The geochemical and isotopic signatures of these rocks indicate their subduction-related extension origin and further mylonitic deformation, possibly during the Jurassic strike-slip movement of the Farallón plate relative to western Gondwana. The Otú-Pericos fault bounds these rocks to the west, where Jurassic metabasic and metapelitic sequences with serpentinites interleaved and formed in a collisional setting. Our findings suggest that the Pacific margin of northern South America underwent subduction-related extension during the middle Triassic and evolved towards a more oblique convergence during the Jurassic. The early Palaeozoic orogen in South China is considered as one of the typical examples of intraplate orogens in the world. However, the nature of the orogen, for example, the onset time and the timing of tectonic transition from syn-orogenic compression to post-orogenic extension, are still controversial. Here, we present new zircon U–Pb age and Hf isotope data, and whole-rock geochemical and Sr–Nd isotopic data for migmatites and potassic mafic rocks in southern Guangdong, from the Cathaysia Block, South China. Migmatites consist of metatexite and diatexite, including various amounts of palaeosome, melanosome, and leucosome. Leucosomes from metatexite and diatexite/migmatite granite samples yield consistent U–Pb ages of 451.5 ± 2.0 Ma to 458 ± 16 Ma, respectively. Zircon U–Pb dating from two potassic plutons yield consistent crystallization ages of 451–446 Ma. Our new results of field investigation, mineralogy and microstructures, geochronology, and geochemical compositions demonstrate that the protoliths of migmatites are metasedimentary rocks, while metatexites and diatexites are the products of variable degrees of partial melting of the protolith. The potassic rocks have SiO2 contents ranging from 52.5 to 60.2 wt.%, high K2O/Na2O ratios (0.7–1.3), with MgO contents of 3.0–6.2 wt.% and Mg number of 42–57. They have enriched Sr–Nd–Hf isotopic compositions with (87Sr/86Sr)i ratios of 0.7085–0.7151, ɛNd(t) values of −9.9 to −6.2, and εHf (t) values of −10.5 to −5.3, indicating that they were generated from an enriched mantle source modified by ancient oceanic subducted sediments. Regional crustal anatexis occurred at about 451 Ma, and the timescale from crustal anatexis to melt homogenization and accumulation spans over an interval of ~15 Myr. The association of migmatites and the potassic rocks may form in post-orogenic extension setting. Thus, we suggest that the tectonic transition from syn-orogenic compression to post-orogenic extension occurred by the Late Ordovician (ca. 451–446 Ma) for the early Palaeozoic orogen in South China. The Bureya Massif is an important massif in the eastern Central Asian Orogenic Belt (CAOB), and contains voluminous late Palaeozoic–early Mesozoic granitoids that are ideal for investigating the tectonic evolution of the eastern CAOB. Here we report whole-rock geochemical, and zircon U–Pb geochronological and Lu–Hf isotope data for several granite intrusions in the northwestern Bureya Massif, with the aim of constraining the timing of magmatism and late Palaeozoic–early Mesozoic tectonism in the eastern CAOB. The zircon U–Pb dating results indicate that granitoids with ages of 306 ± 4, 243 ± 3, 191 ± 2, and 189 ± 4 Ma occur in the Bureya Massif. These, and previously published data, reveal that at least four stages of magmatism occurred in the northwestern part of the massif: ~306 Ma, ~243 Ma, 219–212 Ma, and ~201-189 Ma. The late Carboniferous (306 ± 4 Ma) gneissic monzogranites have an S and A-type granite affinity, and were derived with significant contribution of the mantle component in a syn- to post-collisional setting between the Bureya and Xing'an massifs. The Middle Triassic (243 ± 3 Ma) porphyritic I-type monzogranites, Early Jurassic (191 ± 2 Ma) porphyritic S-type syenogranites, and Early Jurassic (189 ± 4 Ma) gneissic S-type monzogranites have a supra-subduction zone geochemical signature. The late Early Permian basaltic rocks in the West Junggar of northwest China provide a critical geological record for revealing the termination of the Late Palaeozoic final-stage subduction history of the southwestern Palaeo-Asian Ocean. With the aim of providing constraints on the late stage of the Late Palaeozoic geodynamic evolution of the southwestern Altaids, an integrated study of detailed field observation, geochronology and geochemistry has been carried out on the Early Permian basaltic rocks from the Hala'alate Mountain of the southern West Junggar. Zircon LA-ICP-MS U-Pb dating of four basaltic andesites suggests that they were erupted during the late Early Permian with ages of ca. 286–283 Ma, coeval with the neighbouring mafic diabase stock and gabbroic dyke swarms. The basaltic rocks have low SiO2 and moderate MgO contents, with low (87Sr/86Sr)i ratios (0.70397–0.70447) and high positive εNd(t) values (+5.94–+7.19), and also show remarkable enrichment in large ion lithophile elements (Ba, U, K, Pb, Sr) and prominent depletion in high field strength elements (Nb, Ta, Zr, Hf, Ti), indicating that they were originated from the partial melting of a garnet-dominant with minor spinel lherzolitic depleted mantle source previously metasomatized by slab-derived fluids and subducted sediments. These basaltic rocks were most likely formed in a fore-arc extensional setting in response to the slab retreat of the Junggar oceanic slab during the mid-late stage of Early Permian. Combined with previously published regional achievements, our new results support that the down-going of the remnant oceanic slab and the resultant arc magmatic activity of the southern West Junggar probably continued until the ca. 283 Ma, and the closure of the West Junggar branch of the Palaeo-Asian Ocean should be later than the late Early Permian. The East Kunlun Orogenic Belt (E-KOB) documents successive subduction and accretion processes of the Paleo-Tethyan Ocean. However, the tectonic regime of the E-KOB at the late orogenic stage remains ambiguous. This study presents new results of whole-rock geochemistry and zircon U-Pb-Hf isotopes of the Xidatan pluton in the southern E-KOB. Detailed investigation reveals that the pluton is composed of quartz monzodiorite, host monzogranite, and igneous microgranular enclaves (IMEs). Zircon U-Pb dating results suggest that they are coeval magmatic rocks emplaced at ca. 206–203 Ma. Geochemical studies reveal that the quartz monzodiorite and IMEs share a common magma source, evidenced by consistent compositions of major elements, congruently enriched LREEs and LILEs, and consistently moderately depleted HFSEs and HREEs. Enriched to slightly juvenile zircon Hf isotopes (εHf(t) = −4.24 to +0.49) indicate that the primitive magmas of the quartz monzodiorite and IMEs involve the addition of mantle-derived magmas. The quartz monzodiorite and IMEs have identical ages, and consistent isotope features with the host monzogranite, together with the observation of ingestion of xenocrysts from host felsic rocks into the IMEs indicating that they were produced through the mixing of the mantle-derived mafic magmas and host felsic magmas. In contrast, The host monzogranite has moderately high SiO2 and Na2O+K2O, but low Fe2O3T and MgO contents. It shows crust-like trace element patterns such as strong enrichments in LREEs and LILEs, but remarkable depletions in HREEs. Along with enriched zircon Hf isotopes (εHf(t) = −3.51 to −0.25), the host monzogranite was most likely to have originated from partial melting of lower crustal mafic rocks induced by underplated mantle-derived magmas. Considering abundant Late Triassic igneous rocks across the E-KOB, these new data provide further evidence that the Late Triassic magmatism in the E-KOB may be related to the delamination of thickened orogenic root under an extensional setting. In this paper, we present an integrated study of petrology, zircon U–Pb geochronology, whole-rock geochemistry, and zircon Lu–Hf isotopes for the basic–intermediate dykes in the western Gonghe basin, northeastern Qinghai–Tibetan Plateau. LA–MC–ICP–MS zircon U–Pb dating indicates that these dykes were emplaced in the Middle Triassic (240 ± 1.6 Ma). Geochemically, these basic–intermediate dykes are characterized by enrichments in light rare earth elements (LREEs) and large-ion lithophile elements (LILEs; e.g. K, Rb, and Pb), coupled with depletions in high-field-strength elements (HFSEs; e.g. Nb, Ta, and Ti). These geochemical features, along with the relatively low zircon εHf values (−7.2 to 1.6), suggest that these mafic dykes were originated from enriched mantle metasomatized by subduction-related fluids in a back-arc extensional environment. Literature investigations indicate that Middle Triassic mafic dykes are widespread in central China and are geochemically of arc affinities. Therefore, a regional back-arc extensional event occurred in central China during Middle Triassic time, which was likely caused by rollback of the subducting Kunlun–Animaqin Paleo-Tethyan slab. Neoproterozoic mafic dyke swarms are an important probe for reconstructing the evolutionary history of the Rodinia supercontinent. Here, we present detailed geochronological, geochemical, and Sr–Nd–Hf isotopic data to constrain the petrogenesis and geodynamic setting of Neoproterozoic mafic dyke swarms in the western Yangtze Block, South China. Petrological and zircon U–Pb dating studies reveal that the studied dykes mainly comprise subophitic-textured dolerite and intergranular dolerite with crystallization ages of ca. 823–817 Ma and ca. 795–794 Ma, respectively. The two groups of dykes exhibit varied geochemical and Sr–Nd–Hf isotopic compositions. Among them, the older group has moderate rare earth elements (∑REE = 71.0–94.9 ppm) with flat REE patterns ((La/Yb)N = 1.38–1.81) and exhibits enriched large ion lithophile elements and Sr–Nd–Hf isotopes ((87Sr/86Sr)i = 0.704865–0.707641, εNd(t) = −6.15 to 1.26, εHf(t) = −2.59 to 2.11), resembling typical island arc basalts. Whereas, the younger group has high Nb contents (4–10 ppm) with high Nb/U values (6.93–29.3), high REE contents (∑REE = 123.3–180.8 ppm) with moderate (La/Yb)N values (1.84–4.51), and slightly depleted but variable Sr–Nd–Hf isotopes ((87Sr/86Sr)i = 0.702280–0.706761, εNd(t) = −2.67 to 4.07, εHf(t) = −0.74 to 5.91), akin to Nb-enriched basalts in the subduction zone. Petrogenesis studies indicate that the ca. 823–817 Ma and ca. 795–794 Ma dykes may be derived from different degrees of melting of the enriched mantle wedge that was metasomatized by subducted slab-related fluids and melts, respectively. Varying degrees of the interaction of the slab-derived fluid/melts with mantle peridotite account for their elemental–isotopic heterogeneity. The geochemical database compilation of Neoproterozoic igneous rocks suggests that the Yangtze Block may be located on the periphery of the Rodinia supercontinent and slab tearing or break-off, rather than mantle plume, may account for the Rodinia break-up and associated transition of the mantle metasomatic mechanism at ca. 830–820 Ma. The Almogholagh Intrusive Complex (AIC) in the central part of the Sanandaj-Sirjan zone (C-SaSZ) includes gabbros to granites. Zircon U-Pb dating of mafic, intermediate, and felsic intrusions yield age of 146 to 141 Ma (Late Jurassic-Early Cretaceous). Bulk chemistry shows a wide range for SiO2 (46.8 to 73.3 wt.%), MgO (0.08 to 8.95 wt.%), and Fe2O3(T) (0.47 to 9.25 wt.%) and also alkali elements ranging from 3.59 to 10.12 wt.%. These rocks are characterized by a high content of large-ion lithophile elements (LILEs; e.g. Rb, U, Th, and K) and LREEs with weak Nb and Ta negative anomalies, showing many similarities to an extensional setting. The 176Hf/177Hf ratios vary from 0.282802 to 0.282985 with positive εHf(t) values from + 1.67 to +10.74 (avg: 7.85). Trace-element and isotope ratios modelling indicate that the AIC mafic-intermediate rocks were generated by partial melting of spinel lherzolite and then underwent considerable crustal contamination. The present work in combination with previous data confirm an extensional tectonic regime for the northern part of the C-SaSZ during the Late Jurassic to Early Cretaceous. The Qinling Orogenic Belt was formed by multi-stage convergence and subsequent collision between the North China Block and South China Block during the Palaeozoic to Late Triassic. Following the collision between the South Qinling Belt and the South China Block in the Late Triassic, the whole Qinling Orogenic Belt evolved into an intracontinental orogeny. However, the exact termination time of the Late Mesozoic intracontinental contractional deformation and the tectonic transformation from compression to extension remains unclear. The extensional shear zone developed in the West Qinling Orogenic Belt provides a crucial clue to revealing the tectonic transformation and uplift and exhumation of the orogenic belt. This study focuses on kinematics, deformation temperature, and geochronology of the shear zone in the West Qinling Orogenic Belt through detailed field structural analysis and laboratory analysis. The Taibai shear zone (TBSZ), located in the West Qinling Orogenic Belt, cuts across the Qinling Orogenic Belt along the NE–NEE direction and separates the Taibai pluton in the east from the Baoji pluton in the west. The NE–NEE-striking TBSZ is an extensional shear zone showing a top-to-the-NW sinistral shear sense. The TBSZ was formed under the high greenschist–low amphibolite facies conditions (300–550°C) in the middle-upper crust level (8–15 km). Zircon U–Pb dating and biotite and muscovite 40Ar/39Ar dating indicate that the TBSZ occurred at 120–113 Ma. The extensional TBSZ and normal faults on its hanging wall indicate the tectonic transformation and the extensional collapse of the Mesozoic intracontinental orogenic belt during the late Early Cretaceous. A tectonic switch from subduction to collision and/or arc–arc collision is a key issue for understanding accretionary orogenic processes. We present new U-Pb ages, geochemistry, whole-rock Nd and zircon Hf isotope data for a suite of late Carboniferous intrusive rocks along the Kalamaili suture zone of the southwestern Central Asian Orogenic Belt (CAOB) and demonstrate their petrogenesis and the transition of their tectonic settings. Zircon U-Pb dating for the gabbros, diorites, granodiorites, and monzogranites yields ages of 317–301 Ma. The gabbros (311 Ma) were likely derived from partial melting of a mixed source of depleted MORB-like asthenospheric mantle with minor old crustal material; the diorites (301 Ma) from the mixed depleted lithospheric mantle and crustal components; the granodiorites (303 Ma) from the mixed mantle- and crust-derived magmas; and the monzogranites (317 Ma) from melting of the newly underplated basaltic lower crust. Combined with previous data, we have grouped all the intrusive rocks along the Kalamaili suture zone into three phases: 350–340 Ma, 330–320 Ma, and 320–300 Ma. The first phase consists of tholeiitic and high-K calc-alkaline granites, the second phase is composed of high-K calc-alkaline I-type granites with strong deformation, and the third phase comprises voluminous and various rock types (mainly mafic and felsic, including many A-type granites), revealing a magmatic flare-up. The magmatic associations and evolution from the first to the third phase, together with regional geology, suggest a tectonic transition from subduction/accretion (350–340 Ma) through syn-collision (330–320 Ma) to post-collision (or post-accretionary, 320–300 Ma), respectively. The basal Cambrian sandstone unit in the North China craton (NCC) is an example of globally widespread siliciclastic succession that resides on the Great Unconformity and deposited on a hypothesized low-lying peneplain during the Cambrian global eustatic sea-level rise. Detrital zircon age signatures from this distinct sequence enable recognition of the ancient drainage system of the NCC in deep time and track its potential linkage with the Gondwana landmass. LA-ICP-MS U–Pb dating of the fossil-calibrated basal Cambrian (Series 2) detrital zircon samples from seven measured sections reveal marked spatial changes in their age signatures that can be divided into three distinct types. The first is generally characterized by the bimodal age populations with broad peaks at ~1.85 Ga and ~2.5 Ga that correlate with the Archean to Paleoproterozoic basement inboard of the NCC. The second is featured by multimodal distribution with diagnostic Neoproterozoic peaks that correspond to subregional magmatic record. The third also shows multiple-zircon age populations, but yields significant crystallization ages close to the early Cambrian age. Comparing our new data with existing age spectra for the Cambrian strata across the NCC and the northern Gondwana demonstrates that separate drainage systems did exist in the peneplained basement during global Cambrian transgression and the basal Cambrian unit in the NCC was not a part of the far-travelled sand sheet across the northern margin of Gondwana. The most suitable source for Cambrian-aged grains constrained by paleogeographic restoration is the arc terrane developed along the northern margin of the NCC as a result of subduction of the Paleo-Asian oceanic plate. Our new continental-scale detrital zircon provenance signatures in the basal Cambrian unit suggest that the NCC should be considered a discrete continental block separated by the Proto-Tethys Ocean in the Cambrian, rather than an integral part of the northern Gondwana. Reservoir spaces, such as vesicles, 'secondary' amygdales, dissolution caverns and geodes, are widely developed in the Emeishan basaltic lavas in the Zhoudaping section, Leshan, west Sichuan, China. The dissolution characteristics, cementation sequences, hydrothermal activity stages, as well as fluid types, and their effects on the reservoir capacity were investigated for each stage. Macroscopically, the dissolution features present as irregular dissolution zones, which are characterised by a light red colour. Microscopically, in the dissolved zone, the cementation-filling minerals are associated with complex fill sequences, such as quartz/laumontite/chlorite–chlorite/saponite–epidote/celadonite–cryptocrystalline chlorite–laumontite/calcite/quartz. The U–Pb geochronology shows that the age of chlorite fill in amygdales is 235.3 ± 19.6 Ma; the coarse-crystalline quartz inside dissolution caverns/geodes, 124.47 ± 5.63 to 123.84 ± 5.63 Ma; and the siliceous mineral-filled amygdales, 118.34 ± 3.70 to 114.08 ± 3.76 Ma, which correspond to the early Late Triassic and the mid–late Early Cretaceous, respectively. Combined with geochemical characteristics of post-dissolution fill, the amygdales are affected by two stages of hydrothermal activity: chlorite filling of the amygdales corresponds to post-magma hydrothermal fluids during the early Late Triassic, and the siliceous mineral-fill in amygdales corresponds to deep-sourced hydrothermal fluids during the mid–late Early Cretaceous. The geodes/dissolution caverns result from a single stage of hydrothermal activity related to the mid–late Early Cretaceous deep-source low-temperature hydrothermal fluid. The Late Triassic post-magma hydrothermal fluids are generally destructive to pores, and tectonic-related dissolution of deep-sourced hydrothermal fluids has a positive effect on the formation of reservoir spaces, greatly enhancing fluid storage and flow capacities of the volcanic lavas. We recommend the multi-stage hydrothermal dissolution during Late Triassic–Early Cretaceous and faults, fractures and columnar joints be the focus of hydrocarbon exploration. The reservoir spaces developed in the Zhoudaping section, such as amygdales, dissolution caverns and geodes, were controlled by different stages and types of hydrothermal alteration. Amygdales are the product of two hydrothermal events, which correspond to post-magma hydrothermal fluids during the early Late Triassic and the deep-sourced hydrothermal fluids of the mid–late Early Cretaceous. Geodes/dissolution caverns are affected by deep-source low-temperature hydrothermal fluids in the mid–late Early Cretaceous. Anorogenic magmatism in the northern Arabian-Nubian Shield occurred during a long-lasting crustal extension event (<580 Ma), which succeeded the formation of the Pan-African orogenic belt in NE Africa and Arabia. Late Neoproterozoic anorogenic felsic volcanic-subvolcanic rocks, along with post-collisional granitoid suites, are exposed in the Gabal Abu Durba mountain range along the eastern flank of the Gulf of Suez in Sinai. These rocks include granite and rhyolite porphyries, metaluminous to weakly peralkaline with distinct potassic alkaline and ferroan affinities. Major and trace element characteristics such as K2O/MgO >16, total alkalis >8.5 wt.%, (K2O + Na2O)/CaO >10, agpaitic index (NK/A) >0.85 and Zr (>250 ppm), Nb (>20 ppm), Y (>80 ppm), Zn (>100 ppm) and Ce (>100 ppm), and 10,000 × Ga/Al >2.6 and [Zr + Nb + Y + Ce] >350 ppm are suggestive of an A-type granite genesis. Zircon U-Pb dating of two representative samples returned crystallization ages of 569 ± 2.6 Ma and 561.7 ± 3.2 Ma for granite and rhyolite porphyries, respectively. The melting temperatures estimated at 997–1020°C are consistent with high-temperature liquidus conditions. Fractional crystallization, coupled with less significant crustal assimilation, was likely the main mechanism of formation of these rocks from a common primitive asthenospheric mantle-derived trachytic magma in an anorogenic intra-plate setting. The A-type alkali granite and rhyolite porphyries of Gabal Abu Durba are manifestations of mantle upwelling and lower crust underplating in the late Ediacaran anorogenic stage. These felsic subvolcanic intrusions (≈ 569–562 Ma) along with their volcanic counterparts constitute a new unmatched rock unit that most probably represent the last chapter of the anorogenic magmatism in the Neoproterozoic Arabian-Nubian Shield crust before the beginning of Phanerozoic era. The now-extinct Palaeozoic to Mesozoic Mongol–Okhotsk Ocean is evidenced by the Mongol–Okhotsk suture, which stretches from central Mongolia to the Sea of Okhotsk. The geodynamics of southward subduction of the Mongol–Okhotsk Ocean remain enigmatic, especially whether the subduction began during the Carboniferous is highly debated. In this paper we present new zircon U–Pb ages and whole-rock geochemical data for the Carboniferous magmatic rocks in Northeast Mongolia. Zircon U–Pb dating indicates that the Adaatsag dacite, Northern Bayanjargalan gabbro-diorite and Bagannur pluton were emplaced at ca. 325 Ma, ca. 316 Ma, and ca. 305 Ma, respectively. Occurrences of these rocks together constitute a Carboniferous magmatic belt to the northwest of the Middle Gobi volcanic-plutonic belt. The ages of trapped zircon xenocrysts within the Bagannur pluton indicate that the basement of this magmatic belt is the Ereendavaa terrane. Geochemical analysis indicates that these magmatic rocks were formed in an Andean-type active margin, which provides robust evidence for southward subduction of the Mongol-Okhotsk Ocean during the Late Carboniferous. By combining all the available data, we argue that the onset of the Central Mongolia–Tsagaan Uul continental collision during the Late Carboniferous – Early Permian may have triggered the beginning of an active margin of the Mongol-Okhotsk Ocean along the northern coast of the Central Mongolia microcontinent. Metamorphic rocks from the Diancang Shan (DCS) complex along the Ailao Shan-Red River belt between the South China plate and Simao-Indochina block are studied in this contribution to constrain the Proto- to Palaeo-Tethys tectonic evolution of the eastern Tethys domain. LA-ICP-MS zircon U-Pb geochronological dating is conducted in this study on the metasedimentary rocks (garnet-biotite-plagioclase gneisses, biotite-quartz schists and phyllonites) from different stratigraphical horizons (Proterozoic and Triassic) of the DCS complex. The analyses yielded three major age peaks at ca. 248 Ma, ca. 441 Ma, ca. 1000–900 Ma and one subordinate age peak at ca. 828 Ma. The youngest ages for the samples help to constrain the maximum ages of deposition of the complex at Early Carboniferous and Late Triassic, respectively. The existence of the diagnostic age peak at ca. 440 Ma and the euhedral-subhedral morphology of the detrital zircons in the Palaeozoic and Mesozoic strata may indicate that there were early Palaeozoic magmatic activities along the eastern margin of the Simao-Indochina block. At the meantime, the age peak at ca. 440 Ma was never reported in the early Palaeozoic strata from the western margin of the South China plate, which supports the existence of an early Palaeozoic rift zone, i.e., the Proto-Tethys Jinsha Jiang-Ailao Shan-Song Ma rift zone, being consistent with geochemical discriminations. Furthermore, we conclude, from the significant difference between detrital zircon age data of Silurian to Devonian sedimentary rocks from the Simao-Indochina block and South China plate, the opening of the Palaeo-Tethys ocean since Early Carboniferous, the absence of evidence for the Palaeozoic orogeny, and the successive sedimentation from the Cambrian to Triassic along the western margin of the South China plate, that the Proto-Tethys rifting and subsequent Palaeo-Tethys ocean evolution along the Jinsha Jiang-Ailao Shan-Song Ma zone formed actually a complete 'Wilson Cycle' from early Palaeozoic to the Late Triassic. The tectonic evolution of the Karakoram fault in the Pamir Plateau is controversial because the timing and kinematics of several branches of the fault system are unclear. Here we conduct field observations on the East Pamir fault, the North Muskol shear zone, and the Xindi-Waqia fault in the eastern Pamir, and obtain zircon U-Pb and biotite 40Ar/39Ar ages from these ductile shear zones. All three faults/shear zones are hosted by granitic mylonites. The East Pamir fault is a northwest-striking, normal-dextral shear zone that cuts the Rushan-Pshart suture. Zircon U-Pb dating yields a mean age of 201.5 ± 0.5 Ma for the mylonites in this shear zone. Biotite 40Ar/39Ar analysis yields two weighted mean plateau ages, 10.65 ± 0.13 Ma, and 11.04 ± 0.15 Ma. An undeformed granitic vein that cuts the ductile shear zone gives a mean zircon U-Pb age of 9.6 ± 0.3 Ma. We interpret that the granitic protolith crystallized at 201.5 Ma, and the East Pamir fault underwent rapid cooling and exhumation at ca. 11 Ma and ceased by 9.6 Ma. The North Muskol shear zone is an east-striking extensional shear zone along the northern boundary of the Shatput-Muztaghata dome. Two mylonitic samples show mean 206Pb/238U ages of 17.9 ± 0.2 Ma and 17.6 ± 0.3 Ma, which are interpreted as the timing of crystallization of the granitic protolith. The Xindi-Waqia fault is a northwest-striking ductile shear zone and brittle fault that bounds the Muztaghata dome. We obtain two zircon U-Pb ages (231.8 ± 1.1 Ma, 235.9 ± 0.9 Ma) and two biotite 40Ar/39Ar plateau ages (between 6.60 ± 0.10 Ma and 6.87 ± 0.10 Ma) from the mylonites in this fault, and interpret that the granitic rocks were emplaced in the Late Triassic and exhumed in the late Miocene. The newly obtained U-Pb ages, combined with the previously published data, indicate that Rushan-Pshart suture in Pamir marks the closure of an ocean basin within the Palaeo-Tethys Ocean, and cannot be correlated with the Bangong-Nujiang suture in Tibet. We establish a systematic correlation in which the two Palaeo-Tethyan sutures (Tanymas-Jinshajiang and Rushan-Pshart) in Pamir represent the western extensions of the Jinshajiang and Longmu Co-Shuanghu sutures in the Tibetan Plateau, respectively, and the Central Pamir is the western extension of the Tianshuihai-North Qiangtang terrane. This indicates that the dextral slip along the Karakoram fault system in east-central Pamir is 140 ± 10 km, and the mean slip rate since the onset of the Karakoram fault at ca. 18 Ma is 7.8 ± 0.5 mm/yr. Furthermore, our analyses suggest that the North Muskol shear zone was active at ca. 18 Ma before the arrival of the Karakoram fault system then. The East Pamir fault must have been active at ca. 11 Ma, but ceased by ca. 9.6 Ma, and the slip along the Karakoram fault system migrated northeastward and primarily accommodated by the Tashkurgan fault soon after 9.6 Ma. The Xindi-Waqia fault is the southern extension of the ductile shear zone of the Kongur Shan extensional system, as they are highly similar in geometry, kinematics, and timing. Overall, as the Karakoram fault system propagated northward in Pamir during the Cenozoic, crustal deformation migrated northeastward among the Karakoram fault branches from Ladakh to the Kashgar-Yecheng transfer system, and a complex evolution path can be portrayed. The tectonic evolution of the Proto‑Tethys in the East Kunlun Orogenic Belt (EKOB) is controversial. Herein, new petrological, whole-rock geochemical, zircon U–Pb geochronological and zircon Lu–Hf isotopic data for early Paleozoic intrusive rocks in the Delite region are reported. LA-ICP-MS zircon U–Pb isotopic data show that the Delite monzogranite and quartz syenite were formed at 437.0 ± 2.9 Ma and 424.8 ± 2.2 Ma, respectively. The Delite monzogranite contains high SiO2, Al2O3 and K2O and A/CNK ratios, but low MgO and Mg# values (33–38). This study considers that the monzogranite is a typical S-type granite and originated from partial melting of ancient crustal clastic material (metagreywacke) in a syn-collision setting. The quartz syenite is K-rich and Mg-poor, with low Mg# values (36–41), exhibiting geochemical signatures of an alkalic syenite derived from partial melting of basaltic lower crust in a post-collision setting. Combining with the previous work, we suggest that in the middle part of the EKOB the Proto-Tethys closed at ca 437 Ma with a post-collisional setting after ca 427 Ma. Zircons LA-ICP-MS U–Pb isotopic data indicate that the Delite monzogranite and quartz syenite were formed at 437.0 ± 2.9 Ma and 424.8 ± 2.2 Ma, respectively. The Delite monzogranite was formed in a syn-collision setting. The Delite quartz syenite was related to the post-collision setting. The precise age of slab rollback of the Paleo-Pacific Plate during Early Cretaceous has been contentious. In this study, we have conducted LA-ICP-MS zircon U-Pb dating, major and trace elements, and Sr-Nd isotopes analyses on the late Early Cretaceous diabase porphyries, andesitic basalts and basanites in the Yanbian area (NE China). Zircon U-Pb dating of basanites, andesitic basalts, and diabase porphyries yielded weighted average ages of 104 ± 1.9 Ma (MSWD = 0.55, n = 5), 106 ± 1.6 Ma (MSWD = 0.68, n = 6), and 111 ± 2 Ma (MSWD = 16, n = 3), respectively. The whole-rock geochemical results indicate that the late Early Cretaceous rocks predominantly belong to the low-K tholeiitic and medium-K calc-alkaline series. The diabase porphyries and andesitic basalts are characterized by large ion lithophile elements (e.g. Ba, K, and Sr) enrichment and high field strength elements (e.g. Nb and Zr) depletion with weak positive Eu anomalies, low initial 87Sr/86Sr ratios (0.70361–0.70394) and high εNd (t) values (5.96–7.87). The tectonic discrimination diagrams show that the diabase porphyries and andesitic basalts formed in the continental Island arc environment related to subduction of the Paleo-Pacific Plate in the late Early Cretaceous. In contrast, the basanites are enriched in Ba, Th, and U and depleted in K, Sr, and Ti, with weak negative Eu anomalies. The basanites display high magnesium values (Mg# = 0.79), which are approaching the primary magma. They have low Ti values (TiO2 = 1.45%) and Al values (A12O3 = 9.98–10.15%) and high Co values (78.1–80.2 ppm) and Ni values (549.5–585.5 ppm). The basanites formed in the intraplate extensional tectonic setting and were the products of lithospheric thinning and mantle upwelling during the late Early Cretaceous. The spatial-temporal relationship of late Early Cretaceous magmatic rocks in NE China suggests a slab rollback from high-angle subduction to low-angle subduction of the Paleo-Pacific Plate at ca. 106 Ma. The large-scale strike-slip Tan–Lu Fault Zone (TLFZ) and Xiangfan–Guangji Fault Zone (XGFZ) both terminate in the southeastern corner of the Dabie Orogen at an angle of almost 90°, and this corner therefore provides a very good natural laboratory for understanding the mechanism by which large-scale strike-slip faults terminate. We present new geochronological and structural data for the southeastern tip of the XGFZ and the southwestern tip of the TLFZ. The NW–SE-striking XGFZ records ductile shearing in its northwestern segment, characterized by discrete dextral shear zones that formed at temperatures of 350–400°C, as indicated by quartz c-axes fabrics and microstructures. In the southeastern segment of the XGFZ, WNW–ESE-trending thrusts are displayed. The NE–SW-striking TLFZ is characterized by discrete NE–SW-trending sinistral ductile shear zones in the Qianshan–Tongcheng segment, brittle left-lateral strike-slip faults in the Taihu–Qianshan segment, and thrusts to the south of Taihu. The trends of these thrusts change progressively southward from NE–SW to ENE–WSW and E–W. New zircon U–Pb dating results and previous cooling biotite 40Ar/39Ar ages constrain the timing of shearing in the XGFZ to 112–102 Ma (late Early Cretaceous), which is the same as the age of faulting in the TLFZ (110–102 Ma). The large-scale strike-slip TLFZ and XGFZ both terminate at their tips as thrusts. We suggest that interactions between the two faults led to the kinematic changing from strike-slip to thrusting, with this playing an important role in controlling the termination of these two large-scale intersecting strike-slip faults. The dextral shearing of the NW–SE-trending XGFZ, the sinistral shearing of the NE–SW-trending TLFZ, and the nearly E–W-trending thrust faults all indicate continental-scale N–S compression in eastern China during the late Early Cretaceous. Two episodes of late Neoarchean-early Paleoproterozoic and late Paleoproterozoic garnet-bearing leucogranite, named the Baotou and Jining–Liangcheng garnet-bearing leucogranite are recognized from the Khondalite Belt in the North China Craton. Geochemical studies show that garnet-bearing leucogranite has high Al2O3 content and FeOT/MgO ratio, with a large variation in the CaO content and K2O/Na2O ratio. Additionally, the garnet-bearing leucogranite is enriched in light rare earth elements and large ion lithophile elements and depleted in Nb, Ta, P, and Ti. However, there are some variations in Eu anomalies, as indicated by the Eu-enriched and Eu-depleted patterns. The sensitive high-resolution ion microprobe (SHRIMP) zircon U-Pb dating of the Baotou garnet-bearing leucogranite and Jining–Liangcheng garnet-bearing leucogranite show that their anatectic ages were 2.35–2.43 Ga and 1.90–1.92 Ga, respectively, with zircon εHf (t) values of −0.01–3.93 and −4.36–1.99, and two-stage model ages (TDM2) of 2.76–3.02 Ga and 2.57–2.83 Ga, respectively. U-Th-Pb SHRIMP analyses on zircon reveal ages of ca. 2.35–2.47 Ga for the Baotou metapelite gneiss and ca. 1.90–1.91 Ga for the Jining–Liangcheng metapelite gneiss, which represent the ages of tectonic metamorphic events related to the anatexis. Our results, combined with geological and petrographical observations, geochemistry, and geochronology, suggest that (1) Garnet-bearing leucogranites formed as a result of anatexis of metapelite gneisses; (2) They are mixtures of leucosomes, residual minerals and mantle-derived materials; (3) Two episodes of garnet-bearing leucogranites have been identified; (4) Both two episodes of garnet-bearing leucogranites corresponded to late Neoarchean-early Paleoproterozoic and late Palaeoproterozoic tectonothermal events, respectively. The Wanbaogou granitic plutons are exposed along with coeval volcanic rocks, and provide an opportunity to investigate Silurian tectonism in the South Kunlun belt, northwest China. This study presents new whole-rock geochemical, and zircon U–Pb geochronological and Lu–Hf isotope data for Silurian intrusive rocks of the Wanbaogou area. We analysed four samples: a porphyritic monzogranite and dioritic dike from the Wanbaogou pluton and a granodiorite and monzogranite from the Wudaogou pluton. Zircon U–Pb dating yielded similar ages of 423.8 ± 1.9, 422.9 ± 1.9, 424.9 ± 2.0, and 425.3 ± 2.6 Ma, respectively. indicating that the intrusions were coeval. The granitic samples are mostly transitional between the high-K and shoshonite series. The Wanbaogou monzogranite is metaluminous and has features typical of A-type granites in terms of trace element geochemistry, whereas the Wudaogou granitoids are metaluminous to weakly peraluminous I-type granites. The Wanbaogou dikes are intermediate to mafic in composition and belong to the low- to medium-K series. The four intrusive samples have εHf(t) values of −10.62 to +0.99 (average = −2.52), similar to the εHf(t) values of intraplate volcanic rocks (−6.35 to +2.89; average = −1.82) and, combined with the geochemical data, indicate the 430–420 Ma magmatism could have been generated by crustal melting with input from mantle-derived materials, followed by crustal contamination. Data for the Wanbaogou and Wudaogou plutons, dikes, and volcanic rocks from the same area suggest rapid orogenic uplift at 430–420 Ma. Our data and the results of previous research on the Kunlun high- to ultra-high-pressure metamorphic belt and coeval volcanic and intrusive rocks elsewhere in the region suggest that collisional tectonism ceased abruptly at 430–420 Ma. The İstanbul-Zonguldak Tectonic Unit is a part of Avalonia-Carolina and represents Far East Avalonia. It includes Ordovician to Carboniferous deposits which unconformably overlie Late Neoproterozoic metamorphic rocks. Timing of its detachment from West Gondwana-land, thus rifting of the Rheic Ocean, is poorly known. Here, I report on dacite, diabase and andesite dykes of Late Ediacaran igneous crystallization ages from the basement rocks and rift-deposits in the İstanbul-Zonguldak Tectonic Unit (NW Turkey). They are folded about a consistent axis and have porphyritic to intersertal textures. U-Pb dating on igneous zircons from folded dykes yielded Late Ediacaran ages of ca. 556.2 ± 2.2 Ma (2σ) and 552.1 ± 2.8 to 549.2 ± 2.3 Ma (2σ). Late Ediacaran dykes show calc-alkaline and alkaline affinities, and contain with-in plate components. Rift-related Late Ediacaran magmatism shows that the Yellice arc changed from an arc to a back-arc basin and the rift-deposits formed during the late Ediacaran due to the arc rifting. In conjunction with the data from literature, I suggest that the rift-related magmatism is related to the rifting event during the late Ediacaran, leading to the detachment of this continental block from the West Gondwana-land, thus to the opening of the Rheic Ocean, and Early Cambrian deformation event correspond to the adding of the Kraishte terrane with Far East Avalonia. The docking of the Kraishte terrane led to the deformation of Late Ediacaran dykes. The black shales of the Koushk series in the Bafq metallogenic zone, which are part of the upper Neoproterozoic shales of Central Iran, are typically comparable with the Proterozoic Shale signature but comprehensive information about formational conditions and geochemical characteristics is scarce. In this study, the chemical composition, provenance, tectonic setting, climatic conditions during the weathering of source rocks and paleoredox depositional environments for Koushk shales are investigated. Compared with 'Post Archean Average Shale', the samples are depleted in Fe2O3, MgO, TiO2, K2O, Na2O, Sc, Co, Th, V and Cr, owing to the chemical composition and degree of weathering of the source rocks. The provenance study implies that the sediments originated from felsic igneous rocks with a moderate degree of weathering in a semiarid to arid climate. The ratios of redox-sensitive elements [e.g. V/Cr, V/(V + Ni)] revealed that the studied black shales were deposited under moderately anoxic conditions. Furthermore, trace-element ratios (e.g. La–Th–Sc) suggest a continental arc setting for the provenance, which is consistent with the tectonic evolutionary history of Central Iran throughout the late Neoproterozoic. Neoproterozoic black shales of the Koushk series in the Bafq metallogenic zone host a Zn–Pb SEDEX deposit with 13 Mt, averaging 7 wt% Zn and 3 wt%. The provenance discrimination diagram of the black shales suggests their derivation from felsic source rocks. The black shales were deposited under a moderately anoxic environment. Plate subduction plays a decisive role in continental tectonics, and subduction history is closely connected to deformation and sedimentation in the overriding plate. When and how the Paleo-Pacific Plate subducted beneath Southeast China in the Mesozoic is debated. Here, we show that provenance data, including detrital composition point counts, palaeocurrent data, and detrital zircon U-Pb geochronology from basins in Southeast China, record the timing and process of Paleo-Pacific Plate subduction during the Jurassic and Earliest Cretaceous. The U-Pb dating of detrital zircons from Jurassic samples indicates that the sediments were transported from multiple sources, including intracratonic mountains, tectonic belts and the inferred active continental margin arc that resulted from Paleo-Pacific Plate subduction. The clastic composition and U-Pb dating of Early Cretaceous tuffs suggest that they were sourced from nearby magmatic rocks and the eastern inferred magmatic arc. Based on detrital zircon U-Pb dating, igneous rock isotope, sedimentary, and structural data, we infer that an active continental magmatic arc developed along the coast of Southeast China in the Early Jurassic to Early Cretaceous (~200 Ma-135 Ma). The westward subduction of the Paleo-Pacific Plate initiated in the Early Jurassic (~200 Ma) and continued to the Early Cretaceous (~135 Ma). Paleo-Pacific Plate subduction resulted in the uplift of the northern Wuyi Mountain region and eastern South China and controlled the provenance characteristics of the sedimentary basins in Southeast China during the Jurassic to Early Cretaceous. The Tarnagulla Granodiorite in the western Lachlan Fold Belt is poorly exposed; however, magnetic data reveal its distinct U shape (in plan view) and patterns characterised by multiple nested cusp-shaped anomalies of contrasting magnetic intensity. We interpret this magnetic response to reflect incremental assembly of the pluton above a persistent magma point source that migrated laterally. Here, we use potential field data, geophysical modelling and high-precision zircon U–Pb dating to constrain the shape of the intrusion at depth and deduce the migration path of the magmatism epicentre. Potential field profile modelling across three traverses, constrained by petrophysics, resolves the subsurface geometry of the Tarnagulla Granodiorite. In cross-section, the intrusion is funnel-shaped, with a lower boundary that varies from ∼2 km depth in the north to ∼6 km depth in the southwest, reaching a maximum depth of ∼8 km, which may coincide with a magma feeder zone. New precise U–Pb geochronology provides ages that confirm the interpreted magnetic phases were emplaced sequentially along a clockwise intrusion path that progressed stepwise from the north to the southwest between 406.62 ± 0.27 Ma and 399.3 ± 1.1 Ma. We attribute migration of the epicentre of magmatism within the Tarnagulla Granodiorite to syn-intrusion (Early Devonian) reactivations of the underlying Tarnagulla Fault, with relative displacements between the fault hanging wall (which hosts the pluton) and footwall (which we interpret to have hosted a persistent point-source magma feeder zone during pluton emplacement). Our model explains the intrusion's U-shaped magnetic response and reveals critical information about the paleo-stress and paleo-strain conditions during emplacement, characterised by three main displacement vectors and fault slip magnitudes. The geophysical characteristics, path of emplacement and mineralisation distribution all suggest that progressive fractional crystallisation contributed to the formation of an enriched final pulse of magma that resulted in Mo, Cu and W mineralisation hosted in the Moliagul Granodiorite. High-precision U–Pb zircon geochronology reveal that the Tarnagulla Granodiorite was emplaced along a clockwise pathway from the northeast to the southwest between 406.62 ± 0.27 Ma and 399.3 ± 1.1 Ma. Active faulting during pluton emplacement is the suggested explanation for the Tarnagulla Granodiorites' U-shaped magnetic response. As a natural laboratory for the study of crustal growth and accretionary tectonics, the Lhasa terrane was once a microcontinent with a Precambrian basement, which was transformed into a juvenile terrane by remarkable Phanerozoic crustal reworking and growth. Here, we report the geochronological, mineralogical, and geochemical data of the Numa hornblende gabbros and Dongga cumulate hornblende gabbros in the southern Lhasa subterrane (SLS). Zircon U-Pb dating yields ages of 163.7 ± 2.2 Ma and 182.8 ± 2.2 Ma for the Numa hornblende gabbros and Dongga cumulate hornblende gabbros, respectively, which suggests generation in the Early-Middle Jurassic. Both the Numa hornblende gabbros and Dongga cumulate hornblende gabbros are enriched in large ion lithophile elements (LILEs) and depleted in high field strength elements (HFSEs), and they have positive εHf(t) (+11.1 to +17.3) and εNd(t) (+3.6 to +6.0) values. Whole-rock geochemical and isotopic data indicate that their primary magma was derived by the partial melting of a depleted mantle wedge metasomatized by hydrous fluids. Our data, combined with previous research results, indicate that the Numa-Dongga gabbros formed in a continental margin arc setting related to the northward subduction of the Neo-Tethys oceanic slab. In addition, comprehensive studies reveal that the Early Jurassic to Late Cretaceous were the most important periods for crustal growth in the SLS and crustal thickening in the Mesozoic was concentrated mainly in the Early Jurassic (ca. 190–170 Ma) and early Late Cretaceous (ca. 100–80 Ma), which is related to the magmatic flare-up induced by slab roll-back. The Levant basin, at the easternmost Mediterranean, formed during the opening of the Neo-Tethys at Permian to Jurassic times, as recorded by subsidence and magmatism along its SE passive margin. While the subsurface extensional structure was reconstructed in detail, the spatial and temporal distribution of igneous activity is not well known. Here we present new SIMS U-Pb dating of zircons from rifting related volcanic sequences recovered from four deep boreholes in the Levant margin of coastal Israel. The Asher volcanics, a deeply buried 2.5 km thick basaltic sequence, which accumulated within fault-bounded basin, was previously dated by K-Ar and Ar-Ar to early Jurassic times. Zircons (n=46) separated from the bottom and top of the volcanic sequence yielded 206±2 Ma and 205 to 202 Ma, respectively, indicating that Asher volcanics are of Late Triassic (Rhaetian) age. Zircon xenocrysts indicate Permian (289±2 Ma) felsic magmatism. Rifting activity in the Levant margin included several Permian-Triassic pulses of faulting and subsidence, with a prolonged magmatism-bearing rifting event at Late Carnian to Rhaetian times (~230-201 Ma). Pulsed rifting is also indicated in the conjugate, northern, margin of the southern Neo-Tethys, and the timing of subsidence and magmatic pulses well correlate to the Levant margin. Geochronological databases are powerful tools for characterizing the crustal evolution and the age spectra of a region and allow comparison with other areas at a regional scale. In this contribution, we present the Colombian Geochronological Database (CGD), which contains a curated compilation of ca. 67,406 individual published U-Th-Pb, K-Ar, Ar-Ar, Rb-Sr, Sm-Nd, Lu-Hf, Fission-track, U-Th-He, and Re-Os mineral and whole rock ages that are reported in the published literature. Each date includes geographic coordinates, geological setting, petrologic and chemical information extracted from the respective publications. The structure of the database provides a powerful interface for constructing queries and allows searching and extracting information on geographic domains, provinces, stratigraphic units, isotopic systems, date interpretations, references, etc. This information establishes a framework for regional and global geological interpretations with geochronological, stratigraphic, structural and palaeogeographic implications. With the present effort we present to the geoscience community a clear insight, from a regional perspective, to the geology and tectonics of Colombia since Precambrian times. The comparison of all (detrital and magmatic) single zircon U-Pb dates from the Colombian (Gondwana sourced) geochronological database with the Global and North American (Laurentia sourced) databases provides a temporal constraint on the evolution of the South American continent. U-Pb zircon ages in Colombia define 13 peak clusters centred at 1767, 1530, 1325, 1178, 1007, 605,540, 468, 271, 237, 182, 76 and 10 Ma but of those, only few have a good correlation in all three databases: 1007 (Grenvillian/Orinoquian/Putumayo Orogeny), 605 (Braziliano/Pan-African Orogeny), 468 (Famatinian/Taconic Orogeny), and 182 Ma (Break-up of Pangea) zircon peaks. This correlation suggests that some tectonic events in Colombia are global and might represent crustal production and preservation while the other peaks might just represent local arc magmatic events. This study investigates the age and composition of a suite of mafic dykes in the southeastern Gawler Craton. Mafic dykes intrude the gneissic fabric of the ca 1850 Ma Donington Suite and were previously interpreted to have been emplaced at ca 1845 Ma. However, sensitive high-resolution ion microprobe U–Pb dating of zircon within one of these mafic dykes shows it was emplaced at 1564 ± 4 Ma. The sampled dyke also contains a population of inherited zircon cores with an age of 1770 ± 6 Ma, and one grain with an age of ca 1860 Ma, likely derived from country rock. Whole-rock geochemistry from this dyke and nearby dykes with similar structural and mineralogical features show that there is a suite of dykes in the region with gabbroic, low SiO2 and TiO2 contents and tholeiitic characteristics. The dykes are enriched in Ba, K and Rb, with low to moderate MgO, Ni and Cr contents, and moderate light rare earth element enrichment. Negative Nb and Ta anomalies with subtle negative Ti anomalies suggest some interaction with continental crust. Sm–Nd isotopic data have εNd(1560 Ma) between −6.8 and −2.9, and depleted mantle model ages >2.5 Ga. Th/Nb ratios are 0.21–0.73 consistent with a metasomatised, subduction modified lithospheric mantle source. The relatively primitive nature of the tholeiites suggests the crustal-like signatures are inherited from the source region, which likely represents an enriched continental lithospheric mantle in the eastern Gawler Craton. This ca 1564 Ma mafic magmatism is newly named the Daly Head Metadolerite. In addition, narrow high-strain zones overprint the dated mafic dyke and locally the Donington Suite wall rocks. A syn-kinematic granitic dyke intrusion within one high-strain zone has been dated via laser ablation-inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry U–Pb zircon methods and was emplaced at ca 1555 Ma. This localised ca 1555 Ma deformation is a previously unrecognised tectonic event in the southern Gawler Craton. This study adds to the growing database showing magmatism and deformation in the Gawler Craton continued after the voluminous Gawler Range Volcanics and Hiltaba Suite magmatism (ca 1596–1575 Ma). These younger tectono-magmatic events typically occur around the margins of the Gawler Craton, suggesting the internal 'core' of the craton may have been substantially less fertile for melting during these younger thermal/structural events, likely because of the high-temperature nature of the early Mesoproterozoic Gawler Range Volcanics and Hiltaba Suite magmatism. Geochronology shows mafic dykes in southeastern Gawler Craton emplaced at 1564 ± 4 Ma. Mafic dykes are tholeiitic, derived from a metasomatised, subduction modified lithospheric mantle source. Narrow high-strain zones overprint the dated mafic dyke and contain syn-kinematic granitic dyke dated at ca 1555 Ma. Localisation of post-ca 1575 Ma tectono-magmatic events occur around margins of the craton, reflecting reduced melt fertility in the centre owing to previous high-temperature events. The North and South China Block collision in Triassic resulted in the Qinling orogeny with massif batholith intrusion. In this study, we investigated the deformation structures of the Foping domal zone, the Ningshan bedding-parallel shear zone, and the Yangtian-Tongchewan strike-slip shear zone in East Qinling, aiming at unravelling orogen-parallel mid-lower crustal ductile flow during this late-stage orogeny. Field measurements of foliated felsic migmatites in the Foping domal zone show a subhorizontal stretching lineation associated with top-to-east shearing, and the quartz c-axis fabrics of rock samples from leucosome display characteristic prism slip system (>650°C), consistent with granulite-facies metamorphic condition. The ductile fabrics observed along the W-E extending Yangtian-Tongchewan mylonitic zone along the southern Foping domal zone indicate dextral strike-slip shearing. The Ningshan bedding-parallel shear zone was mapped in the Palaeozoic sedimentary strata along the southern rim of the Foping domal zone and it exhibits subhorizontal stretching lineation. Zircon U-Pb dating results of migmatite from the Foping domal zone, mylonite from the Yangtian-Tongchewan shear zone and syntectonic granitic dyke from the Ningshan bedding-parallel shear zone, together with mica 40Ar/39Ar dating results, allow to constrain the timing of coeval development of these structures in Late Triassic at 220–208 Ma, broadly consistent with the pluton intrusion. The overall pattern is interpreted to result from a local indentation of the Hannan Massif with a salient boundary geometry, which possibly controlled the lateral extrusion of the orogenic wedge, orogen-parallel crustal ductile flow as well as the Late Triassic plutonic emplacements in East Qinling. The tectonic affinities of the microcontinents in the eastern Central Asian Orogenic Belt of NE China, particularly the Jiamusi Block, have been hotly debated in the last decade. The Mashan Complex, which is the oldest exposed basement of the Jiamusi Block and consists of khondalitic rocks (felsic granulite, marble, and graphite schist) and orthogneisses, is the key geological unit to look into the tectonic affinity of the Jiamusi Block. In this study, we carried out LA-ICP-MS U-Pb dating on zircon and monazite minerals from the granitic gneisses in the Mashan Complex, to constrain the affinity of the Jiamusi Block. Magmatic zircons from two granitic gneisses yielded weighted mean 206Pb/238U ages of 517 ± 7 Ma and 527 ± 4 Ma, respectively, which are interpreted as the protolith ages. These age data verify a late Pan-African magmatic event in the Jiamusi Block. Metamorphic zircons from one granitic gneiss gave a weighted mean 206Pb/238U age of 510 ± 3 Ma, which constrained the metamorphic time of the Mashan Complex. This metamorphic age is further supported by monazite dating results – the monazites from three granitic gneiss samples yielded weighted mean 206Pb/238U ages of 489 ± 3 Ma, 498 ± 3 Ma, and 500 ± 3 Ma, respectively, which represented the metamorphic recrystallization ages of these monazites. These data consistently indicate a regional metamorphic event immediately after the late Pan-African magmatism in the Jiamusi Block. The discovery of placer tin in southern Stewart Island caused New Zealand's only known tin-rush. The source of at least some of the placer tin is greisenised granodiorite and metasedimentary rocks on the crest of the Tin Range. There are three mineralised lithologies: a sericite-quartz greisen, a quartz-topaz greisen, and a gahnite-schist greisen. However, very little cassiterite (SnO2) is observed and instead wolframite ((Fe,Mn)WO4) and gahnite (ZnAl2O4) are common. U-Pb dating of host early Paleozoic Pegasus Group metasediments indicate the area experienced metamorphism at ∼117 Ma (monazite), with granodiorite emplacement at 107.9 ± 2.2 Ma (zircon). U-Pb isotope and trace element analysis of xenotime in the mineralised zone reveals three distinct growth phases: one at 107.5 ± 1.8 Ma that overlaps with granodiorite emplacement, and then 94.2 ± 0.9 Ma and 91.6 ± 0.6 Ma. Although it is not clear precisely which growth phase correlates with mineralisation, it must have been a mid-Cretaceous event and we correlate it with the ∼108 Ma Tin Range Granodiorite. The window of mineralisation, ∼ 108-92 Ma, means that this event was likely associated with the initiation of thinning of the Zealandia lithosphere as a precursor to separation from Australia and Antarctica. Absolute age constraints for Cisuralian units in the Cooper Basin have been hampered by poorly calibrated palynostratigraphic schemes, with implications for pan-Australian and global correlations. New U–Pb CA-TIMS (uranium–lead chemical abrasion-thermal ionisation mass spectrometry) dates acquired from volcanic air-fall tuff beds from the Patchawarra Formation combined with legacy palynological data offer new insights on the age, stratigraphy and tectonic history of the basin. Six tuffs from different regions of the Cooper Basin give dates from 284.87 to 277.36 Ma, which suggest that the Patchawarra Formation was deposited between the Artinskian and Kungurian rather than from the Sakmarian to Kungurian, as previously thought. The new dates indicate a possible unconformity at the base of the Patchawarra Formation and the underlying Tirrawarra Sandstone. They also suggest that the overlying REM succession (Roseneath Shale, Epsilon Formation and Murteree Shale) is entirely Guadalupian age rather than ranging from the Cisuralian to the Guadalupian. Consequently, existing Cisuralian and Guadalupian high-resolution spore-pollen zonations should be used with care when applied in conjunction with U–Pb CA-TIMS dates. The tuff dates in the thin Patchawarra Formation over the prominent Gidgealpa–Merrimelia–Innamincka Ridge within the Cooper Basin support the interpretation that the ridge was an area of relatively slow subsidence rather than being a positive feature during deposition. Compacted sediment accumulation rates of between 25 and ∼40 m/My for this unit are faster than for most cratonic basins, which raise questions on the tectonic setting of the Cooper Basin. The use and further acquisition of tuff dates will enhance correlations and facilitate improved paleogeographic reconstructions and our understanding of the late Paleozoic ice age. The studied granitic gneiss bodies of the Golpayegan metamorphic complex, located in the central part of the Sanandaj Sirjan Zone (SaSZ), in wester n Iran. Zircon U-Pb dating of two samples shows that the crystallization of the protolith occurred at 557 ± 12 Ma in the Late Neoproterozoic (Ediacaran), broadly coeval to the Neoproterozoic-Early Palaeozoic basement in other parts of Iran. Geochemically, the protolith of the gneisses probably corresponds to differentiated I-type granites with subalkaline affinities in composition. The ratios of Y/Nb >1.2 reveal an affinity to Cordilleran I-type granites for the granitic gneisses. The high Th/U ratios (2.8 to 9), low Eu/Eu* (0.13 to 0.73), with, low contents of FeO (0.55 to 1.72 wt.%), MgO (0.07 to 0.53 wt.%) and MnO (0.01 to 0.04 wt.%) and the high 87Sr/86Sr(i) ratios (0.70693 to 0.73557), negative ƐNd(t) values (−4.4 to −1.7) and Nd model ages (TDM2 = 1.35 to 1.56 Ga) suggest that the protolith may have been derived from partial melting of a pre-existing felsic crustal source (most likely differentiated granitoids). The new results reveal that the granitic source magma has been evolved in an active continental margin tectonic regime during the southward subduction of the Proto-Tethys ocean beneath the northern margin of Gondwana, like other coeval fragments dispersed in the entire Cadomian active continental margins. ([5]) successfully produced lab-grown scepter quartz using the microchannel epitaxy concept by artificially masking the prism faces of a quartz crystal with silver and leaving the apex unmasked. First, crystals tend to grow roughly perpendicular to the walls of the vein because any other orientation would put these crystals at a disadvantage in the competition with other crystals for space. The late Mesozoic tectonic domain of Southeast China transitioned from compression to extension because of the Paleo-Pacific plate rollback. However, the precise timing of the initiation of extensional tectonics remains unclear. This work focuses on the E–W-trending granite belt and the growth strata of Early Cretaceous red beds in Southeast China to establish the extensional tectonic model in Southeast China. The petrogenesis of four granitic plutons from the E–W-trending granite belt in NE Jiangxi is traced on the basis of zircon U–Pb ages and whole-rock major and trace element abundances to elucidate lithosphere evolution in the study area. U–Pb zircon dating reveals the granite emplacement at 130–135 Ma. Geochemical results demonstrate that all granite intrusions can be identified as A-type granites derived from crustal and a few mantle sources respectively through lithospheric thinning and magma upwelling under the extension background. Field observation shows the enlargement of the sedimentary area of the early Cretaceous Huizhou Formation (Fm.) in the Huangshan Basin closely after (or simultaneously) 139 Ma Shiling volcanic activities. The dip angles of the lower part of Huizhou Fm. vary from 49° to 25° towards the basin centre, and the thickness exhibited a slightly increasing trend towards the lower part within the same bed. These phenomena are consistent with the shape of the growth strata. A model, in which the NE–SW-oriented structure lines transfer to the E–W-trending tectono-magmatic belts by meeting and inheriting the previous E–W-trending tectonic axis, is established in the present work. Lithospheric thinning, magma upwelling, and crustal remelting occur within an oblique extension stress field since ca. 140 Ma. The Xolapa Complex of southern Mexico preserves evidence of its connection with the Chortís Block of Central America. Orthogneisses yielded U-Pb protolith ages from 172 to 169 Ma and paramigmatites are dated at 217 Ma. El Salitre and the Amatlán granitoids show crystallization ages of 65 and 59–57 Ma, respectively. In central Xolapa, diatexites have ages from 38 to 31 Ma, and granites were dated from 30 to 29 Ma. In the southeastern Xolapa, crystallization ages of 45 Ma and 23 to 21 Ma were obtained from migmatites and anatectic granites, respectively. Previous data indicate three diachronous stages of crustal melting along the Xolapa block. Structural data reveal that the Xolapa Complex is tectonically juxtaposed against the Acatlán Complex through ductile zones. Two mylonitic foliations are predominant in the northern boundary of the Xolapa Complex: (i) a sub-vertical NW-SE foliation with subhorizontal or low-plunging stretching lineation and left-lateral kinematics; and (ii) a subhorizontal NE-SW foliation with normal plunging stretching lineation and top-to-NE kinematics. The first mylonitic event related to the sinistral eastward motion of the Chortís Block occurred between 58 and 54–50 Ma. The second event took place in central Xolapa after or synchronous with the 38–31 Ma emplacement of diatexites. This event is related to an extensional phase that uplifts the Xolapa Complex with concerning the Acatlán Complex. In the southeastern region, deformation occurred after or synchronous with the emplacement of anatectic granites dated at 23–22 Ma. Our geochronological and structural data delineated an eastward decreasing age trend of migmatization, whereas the mylonitic deformation reported through the Xolapa Complex is consistent with a diachronous migration and detachment of the Chortís Block relative to the Acatlán Complex from Paleocene to early Miocene times. Field observations, whole-rock geochemistry, mineral chemistry and zircon U-Pb dating results from microgranular mafic enclaves and their host syenite, Urumieh plutonic complex, NW Iran, show that the enclaves and host are coeval, genetically related and evolved by synchronous magma mixing–fractionation. Geochemically all belong to the shoshonitic series and probably originated from the same enriched subcontinental mantle-derived magma in a subduction setting. SHRIMPU-Pb dating of zircon from representative samples of host rocks and enclaves yields mutually indistinguishable late Cretaceous crystallization ages, 90.7 ± 1.3 and 91.3 ± 1.1 Ma (host syenite), and 90.2 ± 0.7 and 91.6 ± 0.7 Ma (enclaves). Pressure and temperature estimates from Al-in-amphibole and amphibole-plagioclase pairs from both host and enclaves suggest that the interacting magmas mixed and crystallized under similar P-T ‎conditions at middle crustal levels (average 662–716°C and 2.2–2.8 kbar). The occurrence of hybrid to mafic enclaves along with disrupted mafic dikes indicates a long-lived mafic source with ‎multiple replenishments throughout the crystallization history of the complex, and large variability in viscosity within the magmatic system. The transition from mixing to mingling depends on the different crystalline states of the interacting magmas, especially the host magma, which strongly influence rheological properties. In the liquid-liquid state, mixing ‎typically will continue until complete hybridization. With increasing polymerization and crystal load in the host magma, magmatic relationships change progressively from chemical mixing to more mechanical mixing (mingling), producing distributed mafic enclaves, then disrupted mafic dikes, then syn-plutonic mafic dikes as a continuum given sufficient time. Lithological, petrological and structural observations and measurements of graphite thermometry, Si-in-phengite barometry, and 40Ar/39Ar phengite thermochronology were performed along two transects across the south-central Brooks Range of northern Alaska. The integrated data set reveals a history of accretion, protracted thermal overprinting of high-pressure/low-temperature (HP/LT) metamorphic assemblages, and subsequent exhumation. Tectonic domains characterized by upper greenschist facies metamorphic rocks display a dominant E-W axial planar cleavage/foliation fabric that overprints bedding and earlier metamorphic foliations. Raman maturation thermometry and Si-in-phengite barometry document a southward increase from greenschist facies conditions (ca. 360–400°C; 3–7 kbar) in the Doonerak window and Endicott Mountains allochthon to epidote-blueschist facies conditions (~515°C and 10–13 kbar) within the Schist Belt. Within the Central and Schist belts albite porphyroblasts overgrow the earlier deformation fabric and quartz microstructures exhibit evidence for diffusive recovery. This indicates thermal overprinting of deeper portions of the accretionary complex caused protracted (ca. 25 m.y.) greenschist facies overprinting of HP/LT assemblages within the Ar partial retention zone. The Schist Belt – Central Belt boundary is defined by a singular, penetrative foliation that displays a weak shear-band fabric. 40Ar/39Ar results along this boundary indicate that the fabric records deformation along the lower boundary of a nappe that began to move up the subduction channel as subduction ceased by ~135-130 Ma. Subsequent deformation along the Schist Belt – Phyllite Belt boundary reflects the exhumation of HP/LT rocks along a south-dipping normal-sense shear zone. Phengite 40Ar/39Ar age gradients coupled with the first arrival of coarse-grained Brooks Ranges detritus within the adjacent Yukon Koyukuk Basin indicate that tectonic denudation along this shear zone partly exhumed the Schist and Phyllite belts to mid-crustal depths by 110–105 Ma. Reproduced with permission Bulk uranium contents of several different varieties of Lake Boga fluorapatite crystals were determined by isotope dilution mass spectrometry (Mills [7]). Fluorapatite crystals were first recorded in the Lake Boga Granite, in northern Victoria, Australia, in 1941, some fifteen years after a small quarrying operation was established to crush the granite for aggregate (Hills [6]; Birch [2]). Interpenetrating fluorapatite crystals showing characteristic zoning in blue shades, larger crystal 2.5 cm across, with schorl, Lake Boga. Conclusion The Lake Boga fluorapatite crystals are not only attractive in their own right, but they also preserve a record of fluctuating uranium, manganese, and strontium contents in the late-stage hydrothermal fluids circulating within the upper levels of the cooling granite. The Cambay rift (CR) is a rich petroleum province of north-western India and extensively studied for petroleum exploration and mapping the sub-surface structure through various geophysical studies. However, the CR is not studied so far towards mapping the geological structures, like faults/lineaments and estimating their source depths. In the present study, the lineaments in the CR have been delineated and their source depths are estimated using satellite-derived EIGEN-6C4 gravity data, though different modern processing techniques (Total Horizontal Derivative (THD), Analytical Signal (AS), Tilt Derivative (TDR) and Euler deconvolution). The majority of the identified lineaments are trending in NW-SE and NE-SW direction and their source depths range between 4.4 and 15 km, indicative of shallow subsurface features in this area. When the Neo-Tethys subduction initiated has been a subject of debate, perhaps due to the lack of reliable evidence. This paper reports geochronological, geochemical, and Hf isotopic data for recently identified gabbro as well as diorite exposed in the Chanv area of the Gangdese in the southernmost margin of the western Lhasa block, western China. Zircon U–Pb dating indicates the Chanv magmatic rocks formed in two stages: latest Permian (gabbro, 254.8 ± 1.5 Ma) and Late Triassic (gabbro, 214.2 ± 2.0 Ma; diorite, 202.8 ± 1.1 Ma). Geochemical and Hf isotopic analyses reveal that the Chanv magmatic rocks of both stages have contrasting characters. The latest Permian gabbro has apparently higher TiO2 concentrations (> 3 wt.%) than the Late Triassic gabbro (0.86–1.24 wt.%). Although they all are enriched in light rare-earth elements (LREEs), the latest Permian gabbro displays no depletions in Nb and Ta, while the Late Triassic gabbro and diorite are apparently depleted in these two elements. In addition, the zircons from the latest Permian gabbro are all characterized by positive εHf(t) values whereas those from the Late Triassic gabbro dominantly by negative εHf(t) values. Conventional plots using multi-elements or elemental ratios all indicate the latest Permian gabbro has inherent resemblance to intraplate oceanic-island basalt (OIB) whereas the Late Triassic gabbro and diorite are of distinct arc affinity. Therefore, The Chanv latest Permian–Late Triassic magmatic rocks testify a switch of the tectonic environment in the southernmost Eurasian margin from latest Permian post-break-up to Late Triassic arc-related setting and thus constrain the initiation of the Neo-Tethys subduction between 255 Ma and 214 Ma.
