Following a series of high-profile incidents of violence against women by serving London Metropolitan Police Officers, questions of standards and the public's confidence in policing are in the spotlight. Over a fifteen-month period between July 2022 and September 2023 using monthly surveys of representative English samples, this study confirms that women, in general, are more trusting in the police than men. This, however, does not hold true in London. Out of nine regions in England, London is the only region where women's overall trust in the police is lower than men. Lower levels of trust in the police among women in London hold when controls for age, income, political environment and crime levels are considered. In line with existing literature that considers women being more sensitive to cues about trustworthiness, the concerning incidents of sexual violence by police officers against women are likely to further erode trust in police in the capital, which already ranks last among England's nine regions in citizen trust of the police. Background: Physician voices on social media are important for health policy advocacy. However, the extent to which physicians use best practices around health communications strategy is unknown. Methods: We implemented a content analysis of 1373 tweets from 12 physicians who specialize in reproductive health care and participated in a reproductive health-related advocacy training program, to describe their reproductive health advocacy tweets in terms of levels of engagement, tone, framing and target audience. Results: The most common framing centered on identifying abortion and contraception as essential health care services. Approximately one-third used proactive (37%), reactive (33%), and neutral (30%) strategies. Less than one-quarter (19%) of the tweets explicitly self-identified as a physician. Conclusions: Participants used a range of message frames, tones, and audience engagement tactics, suggesting a deliberate health communications strategy. In Peru, formal and informal organizations are key actors in promoting agroecological farming and related social goals but struggle to make significant changes for gender equality. In this study, I seek to understand how organizations conceptualize their role in gender equality throughout project design, implementation, and presentation. While the organizations designed their projects around organizational change, the implementation and presentation of their work focused on improving financial security and agricultural literacy for individual women rather than systemic conditions. The musculotendon mechanics of the hamstrings during high-speed running are thought to relate to injury but have rarely been examined in the context of prospectively occurring injury. This prospective study describes the hamstring musculotendon mechanics of two elite rugby players who sustained hamstring injuries during on-field running. Athletes undertook biomechanical analyses of high-speed running during a Super Rugby pre-season, prior to sustaining hamstring injuries during the subsequent competition season. The biceps femoris long head muscle experienced the greatest strain of all hamstring muscles during the late swing phase. When expressed relative to force capacity, biceps femoris long head also experienced the greatest musculotendon forces of all hamstring muscles. AbstractWe sought to gain a more holistic understanding of young adults’ knowledge and perceptions around sustainable diets using a mixed methods online survey of 500 young adults (18–25 yrs.). Variables measured included food choice motivators (6-point importance scale), knowledge (ranking of efficacy of sustainable dietary behaviours), and several open-ended questions (responses assessed using inductive coding). Results show that environmental and health dimensions of sustainability are most salient for young adults. Decreasing food waste and consuming local and seasonal produce were rated as the most important behaviours for promoting a sustainable diet, while reducing consumption of sugary drinks, and reducing dairy consumption were rated as the least important. Cost was cited as the most important barrier to engaging in a sustainable diet. Young adults’ knowledge around sustainable diets is mixed, but sustainability is an important motivator in their dietary choices. Disposable plastic packaging has been conceptualised as a market device that has effects on the functioning of economic markets. It is particularly influential in food retail environments but also has significant environmental consequences. Consumers are aware of these issues, and this paper addresses their questions and objections to the packaging market device for fresh food. Drawing on empirical insights from 28 interviews and 25 completed research diaries conducted as part of the 'Reducing plastic packaging and food waste through product innovation simulation' project, these contestations are explored in a number of ways. Firstly, it explores how such objections become possible and the role of unintended consequences of marketing arrangements. Secondly, conflicting ontologies of freshness are examined, as they also create the potential for objections. Thirdly, the paper engages with the role of responsibility, looking at how municipal recycling systems and packaging design enable contestations. Exploring these contestations contributes to an understanding of how we can address non-market effects of market devices, once they have left the physical spaces associated with market activity and moved into other spheres of activity. Physical inactivity in mid-life is a modifiable risk factor for dementia. Mild behavioral impairment (MBI) is a marker of potential neurodegenerative disease. We investigated the association between physical activity and MBI. Baseline data from the Canadian Platform for Research Online to Investigate Health, Quality of Life, Cognition, Behaviour, Function, and Caregiving in Aging (CAN-PROTECT) were used. Four categories of weekly physical activity (cardiovascular, mind-body, strength training, and physical labour) were derived from the Community Healthy Activities Model Program for Seniors questionnaire. MBI was measured using the MBI-Checklist. Multivariable negative binomial regressions modelled the association between the standardized physical activity duration and MBI severity, adjusted for age, sex, education, marital status, ethno cultural origin, occupation, hypertension, dyslipidemia, mobility, and body mass index. Every 1 SD increase in cardiovascular activity was associated with 8.42% lower MBI severity. In contrast, every 1 SD increase in physical labor duration was associated with 5.64% greater MBI severity. These associations were neither moderated by the frequency engaging in each physical activity nor by sex. Cardiovascular physical activity in older persons may reduce levels of non-cognitive dementia markers like MBI, comparable to effects seen in cognition, potentially modulating dementia risk. AbstractPurposeMaterials and MethodsResultsConclusions\nIMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATIONThis study develops the evidence-base of interventions for inappropriate sexualised behaviour following brain injury involving adolescents.We describe a Single-Case Multiple Baseline Design intervention of Positive Behavioural Support (PBS) across settings. It involves a 16 year old adolescent who had a severe Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and presented with sexualised talk and touch. PBS may potentially be a successful intervention to remediate this. The aim of the article was to determine whether PBS could reduce the frequency and impact of the sexualised behaviour in a variety of his key daily settings. Visual and quantitative analyses were completed before and after the introduction of the PBS intervention within home and school settings.Findings showed reduction in the frequency of sexualised talk and touch alongside subjective impact ratings in the home. Downward trends were encouraging in the school settings, but demonstrated smaller effects than home. This paper authentically represents the voices of non-verbal children with cerebral palsy using a case study design. Policy suggests that children should have the right to play and leisure opportunities, however non-verbal children with cerebral palsy have fewer choices. Additionally, children with communication, learning and mobility limitations are usually excluded from research. The aim of this research was to capture the voices of non-verbal children by exploring their well-being impact in terms of their experiences and choices about their level of participation in recreational activities. A qualitative case series study included interviews, observations, photographs and diaries. Where possible, the diaries were completed by both caregivers and children. Data were analysed thematically, and the lens of positioning theory applied. Seven children aged nine to sixteen years participated. The findings showed how equipment, people and environments enabled or hindered the children's participation. The children also advocated as champions for their own well-being. Positioning theory was applied across the data and was adapted offering a way to better understand the children's well-being responses. The findings demonstrate how these children were able to self-advocate, demonstrating their well-being by their intentional behaviours from their level of participation in a recreational activity. The voices of non-ambulant and non-verbal children are underrepresented in the literature. This study offers an innovative approach to highlight their voices using visual data. The images project the narrative about their choices for participation in recreational activities. The proposed kaleidoscope of well-being offers a way to demonstrate the fluctuations in their emotional responses from their participation. Choices for participation in recreational activities remains limited for non-ambulant and non-verbal children with cerebral palsy. Designers and policy makers should consider how equipment and environments can be adapted or created to increase the choices for non-ambulant and non-verbal children with cerebral palsy. Practitioners in health and social care should consider how to listen to the voices of non-verbal and non-ambulant children with cerebral palsy and their parents/guardians and work towards jointly setting participation goals to affirm their strengths. Water security is severely threatened by climate change. Building resilient catchments is key to reduce water insecurity, yet power dynamics that generate ineffective governance responses can hinder such resilience building. This research uses an Australian water governance process to study the power dynamics that underpin polycentric governance networks. Combining network theory and Lukes' structural power concept is a novel methodology tested for its suitability to investigate structural power. We conducted a Social Network Analysis to identify dominant and marginalized stakeholders and validated the results with interview data. Our findings suggest that combining network theory and Lukes' structural power concept is a useful methodology to identify power dynamics that manifest in polycentric governance structures. This research adds to the methodological foundations of power-related social network research and exemplifies how structural power dynamics, like control over information use, influence the effectiveness of polycentric governance processes and impact desired outcomes like catchment resilience. To investigate critical care delivery in intensive care units (ICUs), we propose a qualitative and quantitative coupling approach to developing an ICU digital twin model. The Systems Engineering Initiative for Patient Safety (SEIPS) 2.0 model was adapted to conceptualise the current ICU system. A hybrid simulation model was developed to characterise major care delivery processes as discrete-time events, feature patients, clinicians, and other artifacts as autonomous agents, and integrate them in the same simulation environment to capture their interactions under a variety of ICU production conditions. Electronic health record (EHR) data from a medical ICU of Mayo Clinic Rochester, Minnesota, were used to calibrate model parameters. Upon iterative refinement and validation, the model has the potential to be integrated with the hospital information system to simulate real-life events as a full-fledged digital twin of the system. It can be used as an in-silico testbed to investigate the real-time allocation of ICU resources such as medical equipment, flexible staffing, workflow change, and support decisions of patient admission, discharge, and transfer, for healthcare delivery innovation. Australian collecting institutions and heritage agencies have been returning Ancestral Remains and secret-sacred objects to Australian First Nations communities for over 30 years. In recent years, calls for repatriation have expanded to include what have often been called 'secular' objects. This paper considers the varying levels of sacredness potentially inherent in the types of 'traditional' secular objects that are characteristic of many museum collections. In museum collection management typologies, objects are often divided into discrete categories of secular, ceremonial and sacred. Youth currently in secondary school will spend most of their adult life in a hotter climate associated with climate change (CC). This study investigated attitudes of youth living in an Australian Biosphere Reserve to identify their understanding of CC causes, impact, and mitigation measures, as well as their feelings of self-efficacy and hope. An online survey of 425 youth found that although participants reported a high level of understanding of impacts, they had significant knowledge gaps regarding the most effective measures to mitigate CC. In addition, youth expressed little hope that society will take action, and a lowered sense of self-efficacy. Significant gender and age differences were found for knowledge, experience, and concern about CC impacts, as well as perceptions of how well school had prepared them for navigating the impacts of CC. Despite increasing interest in the category, there has been limited consumer-focused research to date around sustainable wines, especially in the Canadian context, despite the importance of consumer perceptions in driving wine purchase behaviour. In this mixed methods online survey of Canadian wine consumers (n = 725), we sought to determine how important sustainability-related cues are in purchase decisions, what beliefs and knowledge consumers possess around sustainable wines, and what are the characteristics of consumers with low and high sustainable wine involvement. Results show that sustainability-related cues are somewhat valued by consumers when making purchase decisions, but have low importance relative to the other cues examined. Environmental dimensions of sustainability have high saliency, in contrast with social and economic dimensions, and a significant minority of respondents report no or very limited knowledge of sustainable wines. Additionally, consumers with high involvement in sustainable wines tend to be younger, better educated, more involved in wine in general, and spend more per bottle than those with low involvement. Our findings support initiatives to develop global frameworks around sustainable wine and educate consumers on sustainable wine practises, as well as offer insights into marketing opportunities to promote this important product category. Prison-based violence and self-harm are continuing to rise. Recent research is increasingly showing that for some prisoners, self-harm and violence co-occur, i.e. they engage in dual harm. This study contributes to the developing research and literature focusing on dual harm by presenting an analysis of the dual harm experiences of six men residing in a Category B English prison. Participants were interviewed and their narratives analysed using interpretative phenomenological analysis. Superordinate and subordinate themes were identified, and they shed further light on why men in prison dual harm and what influences their decision to engage in one type of harm over the other at any given time. The findings indicate that co-occurrence is not coincidental. Participants experienced a combination of interlinking factors and complex temporal and experiential relationships underpinning the two behaviours: experiencing difficult and unpredictable environments, an incoherence of sense of self and identity, painful psychological and emotional states, and connections to early adverse experiences. The findings are discussed in line with the growing dual harm research and wider psychological literature. Interest in the influence of a prior cognitive task on physical performance is growing. This work has been approached by several different disciplines, showing its broad importance. The findings from different disciplines have begun to be brought together. This paper reviews the literatures of how both cognitive fatigue and ego depletion can influence physical performance, and does so through a new framework, adapted from Newell's constraints model, and the further specifications of Balagué et al. ([2019] On the relatedness and nestedness of constraints. Sports Medicine-Open, 5(1), 1–10.). We describe findings that relate to how the relationship between taxing cognitive task performance and the impact on physical performance emerges from the interaction of environmental and individual constraints. Working from an acknowledgement of these different influences, the systems they create (e.g. individual-environment system), and their interactions is a key consideration in advancing this area of research. Framing previous findings in this way provides a more organised perspective on the problem, to better structure and drive the research agenda and key next steps. Using the framework, we provide a roadmap and identify five main areas where more work is needed that can advance the field and contribute across disciplines, beyond sports psychology. To explore footwear characteristics and foot problems in community dwelling people with stroke as most research to date focused on the general elderly population. Thirty people with mild to moderate stroke (nine men, mean age 68, mean time since onset 67 months) attended a single session to assess footwear and foot problems using established podiatry foot (wear) and ankle assessments. Most participants wore slippers indoors (n = 17, 57%) and walking shoes outdoors (n = 11, 37%). Over half wore unsupportive ill-fitting shoes indoors and 47% of outdoor shoes fitted badly. All participants had foot problems (mean 6.5 (3.1), 95% CI: 5.4–7.7), including impaired single limb heel raise (93%), reduced range of movement (77%), sensation (47%), and muscle strength (43%). Many had foot-pain, hallux valgus (both 50%), or swollen feet (40%). Foot problems were associated with reduced balance confidence, activity, and community participation (all p < 0.05). A greater proportion of fallers (13/16) than non-fallers (4/14) reported foot problems (p = 0.029). Many community-dwelling people with stroke wore poorly fitting shoes; all had foot problems. Foot problems were linked to reduced mobility. Finding more effective pathways to support people with stroke to select supportive, well-fitting indoor and outdoor footwear is indicated. People with stroke often wear unsupportive ill-fitting shoes and experience foot problems. Assessment of foot problems and footwear advice should be considered during stroke rehabilitation particularly when interventions target fall prevention or improvements in balance and mobility. Information on appropriate footwear and signposting that new shoe purchases should include measuring feet to ensure a good fit is recommended. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives: This study aimed to examine the relationships between daily stress, social support, and the mental health of dementia family caregivers. Methods: A national sample of family caregivers (N = 165) completed daily diary surveys over 21 days (n = 2,841). Mixed-level models were used to examine the daily odds of experiencing depression and anxiety-related symptoms when risk factors, such as the stress of managing behavioral symptoms of dementia (BSDs) exhibited by the person living with dementia, and protective factors, such as social support, were reported on a given day. Results: Dementia caregivers were more likely to report depression and anxiety-related symptoms when BSDs were present and perceived as more bothersome than usual. Specific BSDs, including restless behaviors and intense emotions, were also found to increase the daily odds of experiencing depression and anxiety symptoms. The daily odds of depression symptoms decreased on days when caregivers reported receiving instrumental support, while the daily odds of anxiety symptoms increased on days when caregivers reported receiving emotional support. Conclusions: The daily odds of experiencing depression and anxietyvary based on the presence of specific BSDs and social support. Hamstring morphology may play an important role in understanding the aetiology of hamstring injury. Currently, the methods available to capture detailed morphological data such as muscle shape have not been utilized for the hamstring muscles. The aim of this study was to examine the utility of statistical shape modelling (SSM) for describing and comparing hamstring muscle shape in rugby and sprinting athletes. Magnetic resonance images of both thighs of nine elite male rugby players and nine track and field sprinters were analysed. Images were converted to three-dimensional models enabling generation of four statistical shape models. Principal components describing the shape variation in the cohort were derived and evaluated. Six principal components were sufficient to discriminate differences in the shape of the hamstring muscles of rugby and sprinting athletes with 89% classification accuracy. Distinct shape features distinguishing rugby players from sprinters included size, curvature and axial torsion. These data demonstrate that SSM is useful for understanding hamstring muscle shape and that meaningful variation can be identified within a small sample. This method can be used in future research to enhance the anatomical specificity of musculoskeletal modelling and to understand the relationship between hamstring shape and injury. The following article analyzes the current wave of book bans in the United States of America. Book banning has a long history; the modern predominant focus on young people's reading materials grew around fifty years ago with the increased publication of realistic depictions of the lived experiences, identities, and personhoods of children and young people. Nonetheless, the current form of censorship is different: bigger, more politicized, and more targeted at those living with marginalized identities, particularly people of color and those with LGBTQ+ identities. Nature-based tourism is important in Africa, but do tourists show natural resources when they share destination image(s) on social media and for which of the 54 countries? For the over 11 million photographs from Africa on Flickr, most were from South Africa (15%), Egypt (14%), Morocco (11%), Kenya (8%) or Swaziland (7%). Using a content analysis of 100 photographs per country we found they mostly show aspects of tourism (62%), particularly nature-based tourism (38%) such as wildlife (16%) and landscapes (20%), but also 'traditional' cultures (21%). Using linear models, we found that international tourism, economic factors, and nature (biodiversity and protected areas) explained much of the variation in the number and content of photographs among countries in Africa. While recognizing limitations with social media, and the small sample used, these results provided insights into how these destinations are perceived, which on Flickr reflected an 'out of Africa' nature-orientated view. Low-resource communities that rely on the environment face challenges in the forms of climate change and the overuse of natural resources. Behaviour science offers methods and strategies to mitigate behaviours that contribute to environmental degradation, as well as promote the adoption of desirable behaviours. We investigated the attitudes and beliefs of vulnerable communities. We conducted surveys across five villages on Selayar Island, a small island in Sulawesi Indonesia. Our results suggest a willingness to participate in behaviour-based programs and concern for families. In this paper, we make the case that a person who is considering or has already made a decision that appears seriously harmful to that person should in some cases be judged incapable of making that decision because of the harmfulness of the decision. We focus on the English case of C of 2015. C refused life-saving dialysis. The hospital wanted her declared incompetent to make this decision under the English Mental Capacity Act of 2005. The Judge argued that the consequences for a person's welfare of their decision are irrelevant to the assessment of competence, a position labeled "internalism." This aligns with an assessment of decision-making competence on a strictly cognitivist model. However, internalism misrepresents decision-making. The outcomes of decision-making processes should be part and parcel of judgments of decision-making competence, and in some cases are necessary for any judgment of incompetence to be made. According to the standard definition, creative ideas must be both novel and useful. While a handful of recent studies suggest that novelty is more important than usefulness to evaluations of creativity, little is known about the contextual and interpersonal factors that affect how people weigh these two components when making an overall creativity judgment. We used individual participant regressions and mixed-effects modeling to examine how the contributions of novelty and usefulness to ratings of creativity vary according to the context of the idea (i.e., how relevant it is to the real world) and the personality of the rater. Participants (N = 121) rated the novelty, usefulness, and creativity of ideas from two contexts: responses to the alternative uses task (AUT) and genuine suggestions for urban planning projects. We also assessed three personality traits of participants: openness, intellect, and risk-taking. We found that novelty contributed more to evaluations of creativity among AUT ideas than projects, while usefulness contributed more among projects than AUT ideas. Further, participants with higher openness and higher intellect placed a greater emphasis on novelty when evaluating AUT ideas, but a greater emphasis on usefulness when evaluating projects. Participating in creative activities is associated with increased positive emotions and enhanced subjective well-being in general populations. However, these relationships are less understood in the daily lives of creative individuals who regularly engage in both professional creative behaviors and everyday creative experiences. Therefore, in this study, we recruited a sample of creative adults (N= 290; creative professionals, students studying creative disciplines, and hobbyists engaged in 20 + hours of creative activities per week) who provided daily responses on their creative behaviors, emotions, and flourishing over two weeks. Creative adults were found to be the most creative on days with highly activated positive emotions and increased well-being and were significantly less creative on days with negative emotions. Individuals with higher levels of openness have stronger ties between their emotions and overall daily creativity and everyday creativity than those with lower levels of openness. Increased openness does not appear to have the same moderating effects on professional creativity and emotion relationships. Finally, high conscientiousness and low neuroticism were also found to predict increased levels of creative activity. Overall, these findings provide novel insights into the links between the specific nature of daily creative activities and the personality and subjective well-being of creative individuals. First order kinetic mean field games formally describe the Nash equilibria of deterministic differential games where agents control their acceleration, asymptotically in the limit as the number of agents tends to infinity. The known results for the well-posedness theory of mean field games with control on the acceleration assume either that the running and final costs are regularizing functionals of the density variable, or the presence of noise, i.e. a second-order system. In this article we construct global in time weak solutions to a first order mean field games system involving kinetic transport operators, where the costs are local (hence non-regularizing) functions of the density variable with polynomial growth. We show the uniqueness of these solutions on the support of the agent density. This is achieved by characterizing solutions through two convex optimization problems in duality. As part of our approach, we develop tools for the analysis of mean field games on a non-compact domain by variational methods. We introduce a notion of 'reachable set', built from the initial measure, that allows us to work with initial measures with or without compact support. In this way we are able to obtain crucial estimates on minimizing sequences for merely bounded and continuous initial measures. These are then carefully combined with L1-type averaging lemmas from kinetic theory to obtain pre-compactness for the minimizing sequence. Medication-assisted treatment can reduce mortality and withdrawal symptoms, yet treatments can have side effects and are cost ineffective. Research has supported alternative approaches to withdrawal symptoms, specifically percutaneous nerve field stimulator (PNFS); yet, to date, there is a lack of understanding of the initial acceptability within treatment programs. A retrospective case series evaluated PNFS to reduce opioid withdrawal symptoms for five adult patients participating in an in-home withdrawal management program. The device was worn for five consecutive days, in which a licensed practical nurses monitored their care. Evaluation included the clinical opiate withdrawal scale (COWS) and clinical reviews based on self-report and clinician interview. Significant reductions were noted for all five participants, with the average COWS score for Day 1 at 19.1 reducing to 2.6 at Day 5. In addition, 2-day post-COWS scores demonstrated a continual reduction to 1.4. Qualitative feedback from the patients was recorded, and generalized themes were recorded and addressed. Future controlled, prospective studies should investigate the possibility that PNFS can significantly reduce negative symptoms of opiate withdrawal symptoms, along with providing alternatives to medication-assisted treatments for those who are suffering from opiate use disorder. Agriculture and Land Use, Land-Use Change and Forestry (LULUCF) sectors account for almost 25 per cent of global greenhouse gas emissions through livestock farming, land clearing, and land use activities such as cropping, changing grassland into settlement or deforestation. The LULUCF is a key sector for carbon sink capacity. Despite desperate need for stronger climate change mitigation efforts, there has been little attention paid to the institutional instruments that govern the mitigation potential of the agriculture and LULUCF sectors in Australia. Using Australia's Lockyer Valley catchment in Queensland as an example, this study investigates the dominant discourses about climate change that are conveyed in the institutional instruments (legislation, policies, strategies, and plans) that apply to catchment scale governance. We employ Bacchi's approach to policy analysis, to understand the dominant discourses, silences, and underlying power dynamics that shape institutional instruments in a catchment setting. The key findings reveal (1) a discourse that is alert to the impacts of climate change while largely ignoring its link to greenhouse gas emissions; (2) a pronounced silence about emissions from agriculture and LULUCF in institutional instruments; and (3) a general development paradigm that couples economic growth with carbon emissions. Family caregivers provide the majority of care for older and disabled family members living with an illness or disability. Although most caregivers want to provide high-quality care, many report providing care that is potentially harmful. We apply the Stress Process Model to review the preponderance of literature implicating quality of the relationship between caregivers and care recipients as a factor contributing to quality of family caregiving. In drawing together literature on caregiving relationships and caregiving quality, this commentary identifies potentially modifiable intervention targets to develop programs to support high-quality caregiving to older adults living with a chronic illness or disability. Thrombolysis with tissue plasminogen activator is a mainstream treatment for ischemic stroke. Known risks with thrombolysis include intracerebral hemorrhage and bleeding elsewhere in the body. There are no specific recommendations for the timing of commencing mobility rehabilitation after thrombolysis. Research evidence for early mobilization (within 24 hours) after thrombolysis is sparse and little is known about physiotherapy practice in the UK. Purpose: This exploratory study aimed to investigate the experiences, including clinical decision-making of physiotherapists in England and Wales regarding early mobilization after thrombolysis. A qualitative study with interpretative paradigm using a phenomenological methodology. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with a purposive sample. Thematic analysis triangulated by participant and researcher review of resultant themes was supported by NVivo software. A reflexive diary was maintained throughout. Data saturation was reached after 14 interviews. All participants reported experience of early mobilization after thrombolysis, with no reported harm or serious incident. Themes included descriptions of practice, perceived benefits and harms, and implementation of risk assessment and management strategies. Physiotherapists describe a variety of practices with careful implementation of any early mobilization after thrombolysis. Adaptive capacity is critical for understanding the climate resilience of social-ecological systems. A gendered lens is of particular importance as women are simultaneously one of the most vulnerable social groups to climate change and carry a significant adaptation burden. Individuals' adaptive capacity is partially determined by learning and cognition, specifically one's ability to process, assess and react to a changing climate. Formal education experience is thought to increase the learning and cognitive aspects of adaptive capacity. This study uses a novel method, Participatory Adaptation Scenario and Mapping Activity (PASMA) to explore the influence formal education may have on the decision-making processes of pastoral women as they adapt to drought in Samburu, Kenya. Our results indicate participants with formal education may be more risk-averse following drought, but initially assess and react to signs of drought similarly to peers without formal education experience. We argue that increased risk perception might be explained by formal education's influence on the learning component of adaptive capacity. We also contend that formal education may fail to influence the agency of pastoral women as a result of systemic issues, and therefore limiting the potential of formal education to improve adaptive capacity. This study explores the mechanism underlying shared syntactic representations for highly similar languages by investigating whether cross-linguistic syntactic priming is affected by language proficiency. In two experiments, native (L1) Mandarin-Chaoshanese speakers with moderate proficiency in Cantonese (L2) heard Chaoshanese and Cantonese dative sentences with a prepositional object (PO) or a double object (DO) structure, and then completed a description of a depicted ditransitive event using Mandarin. Priming from L2 to L1 was equal to that from L1 to L1, irrespective of whether the prime and the target involved cognate verbs. Similarly, priming from L2 to L1 was not affected by speakers' L2 proficiency, suggesting that shared representations across highly similar languages are insensitive to language proficiency. This study sought to understand what buying 'local' means to Ontario wine consumers and determine how local wine purchase behaviour varies with select demographic and environmental belief factors. Few studies concerning the perception of and reasons for purchasing local wine have been conducted, and none in the context of Ontario wine consumers. An online survey of Ontario wine consumers (N = 521) was carried out and results showed that perceptions of localness differed between food products ('coming from within a 100 km radius of home') and wine ('coming from anyway in North America and Canada'). The most important motivational factors reported for purchasing local wine were directly linked to economic and hedonic factors, specifically; 'support local vineyards and wineries', 'build the local economy' and 'taste and flavour'. High frequency purchasers of local wines also bought local foods more often and were more likely to seek information about the origin of their food than were lower frequency purchasers. A pro-ecological worldview is associated with higher purchasing frequency of Ontario wine. People with Parkinson's are twice as likely to fall as older people within the general population. This longitudinal qualitative study was part of a larger programme of research including a randomised controlled trial to test the effectiveness of a tailored physiotherapy intervention. Specific qualitative aims focused on a subsample of trial participants in the intervention arm of the trial, and comprised the following: To explore the expectations of participants about the intervention. To investigate participants' experiences of the intervention, and its perceived impacts. To understand the facilitators and barriers to engagement. Two semi-structured interviews were completed with a theoretical sample of people with Parkinson's from the intervention arm, initially after randomisation but before the intervention commenced, and then again six months later. Forty-two participants out of a large clinical trial were interviewed initially, with 37 agreeing to a second interview at six months. Prior experience of rehabilitation plus information accessed through the trial consent procedure informed participants' realistic expectations. Most found the level of the intervention acceptable, and perceived a range of benefits. However, views about equipment provided were more equivocal. The biggest barriers to participation were time and motivation, whilst social support facilitated engagement with the intervention. This study is the first to capture expectations about participation in a programme of exercises and strategies. It highlights that previous challenges to engagement in physical exercises and activities are not a barrier to future participation and provides new insights into the role of equipment and technology in programmes of physical activity for people with Parkinson's. The challenge of ensuring that programmes of exercise and strategies become an embedded feature of everyday life is highlighted, particularly alongside busy social engagements and leisure pursuits. For people with Parkinsons, a programme of exercises and strategies has the potential to reduce the risk of falls amongst those with a history of falling. Adherence to such programmes can prove challenging for a variety of reasons, even when participants have realistic expectations about the commitment and effort needed. Clear explanations about the role of equipment and technology within such programmes could enhance adherence. In order to further individualise programmes of exercise for people with Parkinsons, choice regarding social support, reminders and integration into everyday activities should be explored. Educators play a critical role in designing, facilitating and delivering an online medical education experience. Their teaching decisions and practices shape learners' experiences and affect their achievements. This is true even in large-scale, open educational contexts such as Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), which are designed based on self-regulated and collaborative learning. Thus, it is particularly important to explore the ways in which educators can effectively support online or blended learning through their interactions with learners. The 12 tips in this article aim to provide medical educators with guidelines for creating engaging online discussions that both support and challenge learners' understanding. The advice draws on a recent study examining the experiences and activities of 24 educators in MOOC discussion areas, and how their learners engaged with them. The use of non-probability Internet panels and crowdsource websites is increasing in gambling research. These paid online sampling methods offer a convenient and inexpensive recruitment strategy. The quality of data may be questionable due to careless responding and identity misrepresentation which can bias study results. It is necessary to investigate data quality given the important implications of gambling research in guiding policy decisions, public health initiatives, and treatments. In this review article, we 1) critically analyze the advantages and limitations of paid online recruitment methods, including associated threats to data quality in the gambling literature; 2) present findings from a rapid review of gambling studies using online panel and crowdsource data; and 3) outline recommendations for maximizing data quality and trustworthiness of findings. Substantially overinflated problem gambling rates were found in the 63 gambling studies we reviewed; less than one-quarter had incorporated data quality checks and reported participation rates. Future studies should incorporate pre-registration of methodology and analysis plans, robust participant screening procedures, mid-survey attention and response consistency items, and an analysis of response quality post data collection. While involuntary treatment might have been historically justified by welfare concerns (e.g. protection from harmful consequences), the standard view now is that it is only justified when a person has lost the ability to act autonomously.

Listening to what people discuss about natural landscapes is important, particularly for the management of protected areas where a range of uses are permitted with the potential for conflict. Increasingly social media platforms provide insights into such public discourses. Retrieving data from Twitter, we conducted a bilingual quantitative analysis of the content and sentiments in 2,060 tweets in Portuguese (67%), or English (29%) about Arrábida Natural Park, Portugal. Tweets were mostly positive (68%) and often talked about natural features (58%), park visitation (17%), activities and regional food (14%) and/or environmental issues (10%), with similar content in tweets from locals and other nationals, but some differences with international tweeters. Although with limitations, analyzing conversations on Twitter beyond just those in English can enhance park management by providing broader insights into who talks about what, when and in which language, their values and their perceptions of parks and their management. In the current era of personalized medicine, liquid biopsy has acquired a relevant importance in patient management of advanced stage non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). As a matter of fact, liquid biopsy may supplant the problem of inadequate tissue for molecular testing. The term 'liquid biopsy' refers to a number of different biological fluids, but is most clearly associated with plasma-related platforms. It must be taken into account that pre-analytical processing and the selection of the appropriate technology according to the clinical context may condition the results obtained. In addition, novel clinical applications beyond the evaluation of the molecular status of predictive biomarkers are currently under investigation. This review summarizes the available evidence on pre-analytical issues and different clinical applications of liquid biopsies in NSCLC patients. Liquid biopsy should be considered not only as a valid alternative but as complementary to tissue-based molecular approaches. Careful attention should be paid to the optimization and standardization of all phases of liquid biopsy samples management in order to determine a significant improvement in either sensitivity or specificity, while significant reducing the number of 'false negative' or 'false positive' molecular results. Circadian rhythms are maintained by a complex "system of systems" that continuously coordinates biological processes with each other and the environment. Although humans predominantly entrain to solar time, individual persons vary in their precise behavioral timing due to endogenous and exogenous factors. Endogenous differences in the timing of individual circadian rhythms relative to a common environmental cue are known as chronotypes, ranging from earlier than average (Morningness) to later than average (Eveningness). Furthermore, individual behavior is often constrained by social constructs such as the 7-day week, and the "sociogenic" impact our social calendar has on our behavioral rhythms is likely modified by chronotype. Our aim in this study was to identify and characterize differences in sleep and rest-activity rhythms (RAR) between weekends and weekdays and between-chronotypes. Male volunteers (n = 24, mean age = 23.46 y) were actigraphically monitored for 4 weeks to derive objective behavioral measures of sleep and RARs. Chronotype was assessed through self-report on the Morningness-Eveningness Questionnaire. Sleep characteristics were derived using Actiware; daily rest-activity rhythms were modeled using a basic 3-parameter cosinor function. We observed that both Eveningness and Morningness Chronotypes were more active and slept later on the weekends than on weekdays. Significant between-chronotype differences in sleep timing and duration were observed within individual days of the week, especially during transitions between weekends and the workweek. Moreover, chronotypes significantly varied in their weekly rhythms: e.g. Morningness Chronotypes generally shifted their sleep duration, timing and quality across work/rest transitions quicker than Eveningness Chronotypes. Although our results should be interpreted with caution due to the limitations of our cosinor model and a homogenous cohort, they reinforce a growing body of evidence that day of the week, chronotype and their interactions must be accounted for in observational studies of human behavior, especially when circadian rhythms are of interest. This study examined the relationships between physical capacity, bowling technique and ball speed in 20 fast-bowlers. Technique factors correlated with ball speed were; bowling action duration (r = -0.639, p = 0.002), run-up velocity (r = 0.616, p = 0.004), back foot contact (BFC) time (r = -0.608, p = 0.004), front foot contact (FFC)-ball release (BR) duration (r = -0.602, p = 0.005), delivery stride phase acceleration (r = -0.582, p = 0.007), delivery stride duration (r = -0.547, p = 0.012), time of peak horizontal braking force (r = -0.538, p=0.014), peak pelvis COM velocity (BFC-BR) (r = 0.469, p = 0.037) and peak vertical GRF time (r = -0.461, p = 0.041). Physical capacities were; 10-30 m split (r = -0.554, p = 0.011), 30 m sprint (r = -0.482, p = 0.031) and IMTP (r = 0.471, p = 0.036). Stepwise regression showed bowling action duration and 10-30 m split explained 54% (p = 0.001) of ball speed variation. Ball speed was associated with faster run-ups, shorter BFC times and abrupt FFC GRF application. This paper aimed to test the prediction that substantial undiscovered biodiversity in the tapeworm genus Yamaguticestus Caira, Bueno & Jensen, 2021 exists in the 16 of 18 genera of catsharks globally that have not yet been examined for tapeworms. A total of 200 catsharks of 10 species representing eight genera were sampled opportunistically from the waters off Australia, Chile, Malaysian Borneo, South Africa, South Korea, and the UK between 1991 and 2017. Six species in four genera (i.e., Apristurus Garman, Asymbolus Whitley, Holohalaelurus Fowler, and Scyliorhinus Blainville) were found to host a total of six new species of Yamaguticestus, tripling the number of described species. The new species are Yamaguticestus africanae sp. nov. from Scyliorhinus capensis, Yamaguticestus ellisi sp. nov. from Scyliorhinus canicula, Scyliorhinus fairweatherae sp. nov. from Holohalaelurus regani, Yamaguticestus kihongkimi sp. nov. from Scyliorhinus torazame, and Yamaguticestus kuchtai sp. nov. from Apristurus aphyodes. The new species were characterized using a combination of light and scanning electron microscopy; sequence data for the D1–D3 region of the 28S rRNA gene were generated for five of the species. Transfer of a species formerly assigned to Calyptrobothrium Monticelli, 1893 that is morphologically consistent with Yamaguticestus added Cephaloscyllium Gill to the list of catshark genera known to host this genus. Most tapeworm species exhibited a remarkably low prevalence and intensity of infection suggesting that our failure to detect infection in the four genera of sharks represented by small sample sizes may not be indicative of their unsuitability as hosts. Our results suggest that the earlier prediction that 70 species of Yamaguticestus remain to be discovered in catsharks across the planet may actually be an underestimate. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
