Solid Lipid Nanoparticles (SLN), the first type of lipid-based solid carrier systems in the nanometer range, were introduced as a replacement for liposomes. SLN are aqueous colloidal dispersions with solid biodegradable lipids as their matrix. SLN is produced using processes like solvent diffusion method and high-pressure homogenization, among others. Major benefits include regulated release, increased bioavailability, preservation of peptides and chemically labile compounds like retinol against degradation, cost-effective excipients, better drug integration, and a broad range of applications. Solid lipid nanoparticles can be administered via different routes, such as oral, parenteral, pulmonary, etc. SLN can be prepared by using high shear mixing as well as low shear mixing. The next generation of solid lipids, nanostructured lipid carriers (NLC), can reduce some of the drawbacks of SLN, such as its restricted capacity for drug loading and drug expulsion during storage. NLC are controlled nanostructured lipid particles that enhance drug loading. This study aimed to determine whether concentrations of testosterone and its main precursor after menopause, dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), are associated with lipoproteins and other lipids in community-dwelling older women. The Sex Hormones in Older Women (SHOW) study was an observational study of 6358 Australian women, aged at least 70 years, with no prior major adverse cardiovascular event who had sex hormones measured by liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry. Associations between hormones and lipids were examined using multilinear regression adjusted for potential confounders. The cross-sectional analyses included 3231 participants, median age 74.0 (interquartile range 71.7–77.9) years. Compared with concentrations in the lowest quartile (Q1), testosterone concentrations in the highest quartiles (Q3 and Q4) were positively associated with high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) (p = 0.002 and p < 0.001, respectively) while Q4 testosterone concentrations were positively associated with total cholesterol (p = 0.038). Q2, Q3 and Q4 testosterone concentrations were significantly inversely associated with triglycerides (TG) (p = 0.024, p = 0.003 and p < 0.001, respectively). For DHEA, Q4 concentrations was positively associated with non-HDL-C (p = 0.024). In older women, higher endogenous testosterone concentrations are significantly associated with higher HDL-C and lower TG, indicating a less atherogenic profile. Nitrite has been widely used in meat products for its abilities including color formation, antimicrobial properties, flavor formation and preventing lipid oxidation. However, the possible generation of N-nitrosamines through reaction of nitrite with secondary amines arises many concerns in the usage of nitrite. For a long time, nitrite substitution is unsettled issue in the meat industry. Many attempts have been tried, however, the alternative solutions are often ephemeral and palliative. In recent years, bacterial nitric oxide synthase (bNOS) has received attention for its critical roles, especially in reddening meat products. This comprehensive background study summarizes the application of bNOS in colorizing meat products, its functions in bacteria, and methods of regulating the bNOS pathway. Based on this information, some strategies for promoting the nitric oxide yield for effectively substituting nitrite are presented, such as changing the environmental conditions for bacterial survival and adding substrate. To assess the temporal relationship between premorbid lipid levels and long-term amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) risk. From Norwegian cardiovascular health surveys (1974–2003), we collected information on total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), glucose, and other cardiovascular risk factors. ALS incidence and mortality were identified through validated Norwegian health registries. The relation between premorbid lipid levels and ALS risk was assessed by Cox regression models. Out of 640,066 study participants (51.5% females), 974 individuals (43.5% females) developed ALS. Mean follow-up time was 23.7 (SD 7.1) years among ALS cases. One mmol/l increase in LDL-C was associated with 6% increase in risk for ALS (hazard ratio 1.06 [95% CI: 1.01–1.09]). Higher levels of TC and TG were also associated with increased ALS risk, but only within the last 6–7 years prior to ALS diagnosis or death. No association between HDL-C and ALS risk was found. Adjusting for body mass index, birth cohort, smoking, and physical activity did not alter the results. Higher levels of LDL-C are associated with increased ALS risk over 40 years later, compatible with a causal relationship. PGPR is an emulsifier (E476) widely used in the food industry. In this study, a gas chromatography–flame ionisation detection (GC-FID) method was developed for the quantitative characterisation of the polyglycerol composition of PGPR. The method was validated to analyse quantitatively the polyglycerol species in neat PGPR products and in PGPR samples present in a lipid matrix. This method consists of saponification, acidification and petroleum ether extraction to remove interfering fatty acids, neutralisation, silylation and finally GC-FID analysis. Phenyl β-D-glucopyranoside was used as internal standard as sorbitol proved unsuitable due to its susceptibility to interference from Na/K chloride during silylation. The response factors of glycerol and diglycerol towards phenyl β-D-glucopyranoside were determined using pure standards, while response factors of polyglycerols with a degree of polymerisation of at least 3 could be reliably estimated according to an effective carbon number (ECN) approach. The validity of the method applied to PGPR samples was further supported on the basis of a mass balance considering the experimentally determined polyglycerol and fatty acid content. Moreover, recoveries of di-, tri-, tetra- and pentaglycerol were more than 95% for various PGPR samples added to two different lipid matrices at 2 wt% and 5 wt% concentrations. Furthermore, the method proved to be very repeatable (with relative standard deviation values below 2.2%). On the other hand, the inevitable presence of glycerol in the lipid samples caused fouling of the detector and column overloading, requiring frequent cleaning of the detector and trimming off part of the column. High-fat diet induces lipid metabolism disorders that has become one of the grievous public health problems and imposes a serious economic and social burden worldwide. Safety probiotics isolated from nature are regarded as a novel supplementary strategy for preventing and improving diet-induced lipid metabolism disorders and related chronic diseases. The present review summarized the latest researches of probiotics in high fat diet induced lipid metabolism disorders to provide a critical perspective on the regulatory function of probiotics for future research. Furthermore, the screening criteria and general sources of probiotics with lipid-lowering ability also outlined to enlarge microbial species resource bank instantly, which promoted the development of functional foods with lipid-lowering strains from nature. After critically reviewing the lipid-lowering potential of probiotics both in vitro and in vivo and even in clinical data of humans, we provided a perspective that probiotics activated AMPK signaling pathway to regulate fat synthesis and decomposition, as well as affected positively the gut microbiota structure, intestinal barrier function and systemic inflammatory response, then these beneficial effects are amplified along Gut-liver axis, which regulated intestinal flora metabolites such as SCFAs and BAs by HMGCR/FXR/SHP signaling pathway to improve high fat diet induced lipid metabolism disorders effectively. Periodontitis is a chronic destructive inflammatory disease exacerbated by osteoblast dysfunction. Ferroptosis has emerged as a significant factor that could contribute to the pathological changes observed in periodontitis. However, the impact of ferroptosis on osteogenic differentiation and gene expression patterns of primary osteoblasts remain elusive. In this study, osteoblasts were osteogenically induced for specific durations with and without the ferroptosis inducer erastin. Subsequently, cell proliferation, ferroptosis-related molecules, and osteogenic differentiation capacity were assessed. Furthermore, the differences in transcriptome expression following erastin treatment were analyzed by RNA sequencing. The results demonstrated that erastin treatment induced ferroptosis, resulting in suppressed cell proliferation and impaired osteogenic differentiation. Transcriptomic analysis revealed significant alterations in processes such as hydrogen peroxide catabolism, response to lipid peroxidation, and metal iron binding, as well as BMP receptor activity and collagen type XI trimer. The ferroptosis inducer erastin inhibited osteoblast proliferation and differentiation. Our study provides novel insights into the effect of ferroptosis on osteogenesis, suggesting that targeting ferroptosis may present a promising approach in the treatment of periodontitis. The importance of mushrooms as a food source is continually increasing. To investigate how environmental factors affect the nutritional value of mushrooms, we harvested them in eastern Poland, south-central Germany, and northwestern Belgium in plots with similar environmental conditions but varying in tree species composition and richness. We used gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC-MS) to analyze the fatty acid (FA) content of the mushrooms. Fungal species identity explained the largest part (40%) of the total variation in FA concentration and composition. Environmental factors accounted for 1–12% of variation. The concentration of FA, especially saturated fatty acids, decreased with increasing understory cover and increasing nitrogen concentration in the topsoil. The effect of tree species richness or tree species identity was negligible. Our results suggest that the nutritional value of mushrooms depends mainly on the species identity of fungi, but that their FA content is slightly higher in forests with less undergrowth and in nitrogen-poor soils. The interactive effects of obesity and physical inactivity on lipid metabolism and prevalent dyslipidemia are scarcely reported in rural regions. 39029 subjects were obtained from the Henan Rural Cohort, and their metabolic equivalents (METs) of physical activity (PA) were computed. Independent associations of the obesity indices and PA with either lipid indices or prevalent dyslipidemia were analyzed by generalized linear models, and additive effects of obesity and PA on prevalent dyslipidemia were further quantified. Each obesity index was positively associated with total cholesterol, triglyceride, low-density lipoprotein or prevalent dyslipidemia but negatively associated with high-density lipoprotein, whereas the opposite association of PA with either each lipid index or prevalent dyslipidemia was observed. Joint association of PA and each obesity index with each lipid index and prevalent dyslipidemia was observed. Polymeric poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA)-lipid hybrid nanoparticles (PNPs)-based therapy are powerful carriers for various therapeutic agents. This study was conducted to evaluate the chemotherapeutic potential of free 5-flurouracil (5FU) and synthetized 5FU-PNPs and impact on p53-dependent apoptosis in mammary carcinomas (MCs) grown in mice. Breast cancer cells were injected in Swiss albino female mice and 2 bilateral masses of MC were confirmed after one week. Mice were distributed to five experimental groups; Group 1: MC control group. Groups 2 and 3: MC + free 5FU [5 or 10 mg per kg] groups. Groups 4 and 5: synthetized MC+ 5FU-PNPs [5 or 10 mg per kg] groups. Medications were administered orally, twice weekly for 3 weeks. Then, tumors were dissected, and sections were stained with hematoxylin-eosin (HE) while the other MC was used for measuring of cell death and inflammatory markers. Treatment with 5FU-PNPs suppressed the MC masses and pathologic scores based on HE-staining. Similarly, greater proapoptotic activity was recorded in 5FU-PNPs groups compared to free 5FU groups as shown by significant upregulation in tumoral p53 immunostaining. The current results encourage the utility of PNPs for improving the antitumor effect of 5FU. The chemotherapeutic potential was mediated through enhancement of tumoral p53-mediated p53 up-regulated modulator of apoptosis (PUMA) genes. The formation of hazardous substances, heterocyclic aromatic amines (HAAs) and two representative advanced glycation end products (AGEs), Nε-carboxymethyl-lysine (CML) and Nε-carboxyethyl-lysine (CEL) in five kinds of fish with different fat contents during thermal processing was investigated. The results indicated that HAAs, AGEs produced is related to the lipids in varying degrees. The variation of key precursors were examined to explain the relationship between fat oxidation and molecular pathway of HAAs and AGEs formation. The current research may help us better understand the overall generation of hazardous substances in food systems, and provide new ideas for formulating prevention in future production. The aim of this meta-analysis was to assess the effects of almond consumption on the lipid profiles of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients. Eligible trials were searched from four electronic databases until Jan 2020. Five eligible articles were included in the final quantitative analysis. Overall, meta-analysis could not show any beneficial effect of almond consumption on total cholesterol (TC) weighted mean difference (WMD: 0.65 mg/dL, 95% CI: −7.52–8.82, p =.87), triglyceride (TG; WMD: 1.59 mg/dL, 95% CI: −21.77–24.96, p =.89), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C; WMD: −5.40 mg/dL, 95% CI: −13.30–2.50, p =.18), and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C; WMD: 1.57 mg/dL, 95% CI: −0.95–4.10, p =.22). However, subgroup analyses showed that serum LDL-C levels were significantly reduced in trials administered > 50 g/d almond. In this review, several chemical quality markers of Atlantic salmon, a widely farmed and consumed fish, are identified and discussed. Lipids, especially omega-3 fatty acids are of special importance as they relate to nutritional benefits. Pigmentation, resulting from the carotenoid deposition and retention in the muscles is one of the main factors that drive the market value of the fish. Both these quality markers are heavily influenced by the diet, and a variety of other important factors. Perhaps less obviously, contaminants and pollutants play a role in determining the overall quality of Atlantic salmon. Monitoring these quality parameters is performed via various analysis methods, many of which are considered industry standard due to many decades of producing reliable and accurate results. However, recent advances in spectroscopic techniques present faster, non-invasive techniques that have considerable potential in fisheries science. The following text outlines influences on the chemical quality markers in Atlantic salmon and compares various analysis techniques that can be used for quantification and monitoring. 1. In many countries, eggs are not refrigerated and must be stored at room temperature. The objective of this study was to explore the effects of dietary oregano oil (275 mg$/$/kg; ORE) versus an unsupplemented control diet (CON) on laying hens on the shelf life and fatty acid profile of eggs.2. Treatments were randomly distributed into 10 pens containing 27 birds each. A total of 200 eggs were collected from both groups on the same day and were stored for either 0, 10, 21 and 35 d. At each storage time, egg yolks were analysed for fatty acid profile and lipid peroxidation.3. The main indicator of lipid peroxidation, malondialdehyde (MDA), was significantly lower in ORE eggs compared to CON eggs (p = 0.001). Storage time had a significant impact on MDA concentrations (p = 0.023), with the highest found after 35 d. Significant differences were found for individual fatty acids, saturated (SFA), monounsaturated (MUFA) and polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA). Palmitic acid, stearic acid, oleic acid, linoleic acid and arachidonic acid were significantly lower in ORE eggs compared to CON eggs (p < 0.05). Palmitoleic acid (p = 0.002), linolenic acid (p = 0.001) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA, p = 0.001) were significantly higher in ORE eggs.4. Storage only affected oleic, linolenic, linoleic, arachidonic and docosahexaenoic acids (p < 0.05). Total SFA, MUFA, n-6 and ratio of n-3 to n-6 (n-3:n-6) PUFA were significantly higher in CON eggs (p < 0.05). The ratio of SFA to PUFA (SFA:PUFA, p = 0.005) and total n-3 PUFA (p = 0.001) were significantly higher in ORE eggs.5. Selenium-containing compounds have emerged as promising treatment for redox-based and inflammatory diseases. This study aimed to investigate the in vitro and in vivo anti-inflammatory activity of a novel diselenide named as dibenzyl[diselanediyIbis(propane-3-1diyl)] dicarbamate (DD). DD reacted with HOCl (k = 9.2 x 107 M−1s−1), like glutathione (k = 1.2 x 108 M−1s−1), yielding seleninic and selenonic acid derivatives, and it also decreased HOCl formation by activated human neutrophils (IC50=4.6 μM) and purified myeloperoxidase (MPO) (IC50=3.8 μM). However, tyrosine, MPO-I and MPO-II substrates, did not restore HOCl formation in presence of DD. DD inhibited the oxidative burst in dHL-60 cells with no toxicity up to 25 µM for 48h. Next, an intraperitoneal administration of 25, 50, and 75 mg/kg DD decreased total leukocyte, neutrophil chemotaxis, and inflammation markers (MPO activity, lipid peroxidation, albumin exudation, nitrite, TNF-α, IL-1β, CXCL1/KC, and CXCL2/MIP-2) on a murine model of carrageenan-induced peritonitis. Likewise, 50 mg/kg DD (i.p.) decreased carrageenan-induced paw edema over 5h. Histological and immunohistochemistry analyses of the paw tissue showed decreased neutrophil count, edema area, and MPO, carbonylated, and nitrated protein staining. Furthermore, DD treatment decreased the fMLP-induced chemotaxis of human neutrophils (IC50=3.7 μM) in vitro with no toxicity. Lastly, DD presented no toxicity in a single-dose model using mice (50 mg/kg, i.p.) over 15 days and in Artemia salina bioassay (50 to 2000 µM), corroborating findings from in silico toxicological study. Altogether, these results demonstrate that DD attenuates carrageenan-induced inflammation mainly by reducing neutrophil migration and the resulting damage from MPO-mediated oxidative burst. The actual food system with fat is always complex and fat crystal and fat crystal networks have important effects on the physical properties of food. Recently, power ultrasound (PU) had been widely recognized as an auxiliary technology of fat crystallization to modify food properties. This review expounded on the mechanism of ultrasonic crystallization, and summarized effects of various factors in the process of ultrasonic treatment on fat crystallization. Based on the above, combined with the application of ultrasound in emulsions, the ultrasonic fat crystallization effect in the emulsion system was judged and described. Research results indicated that PU could shorten the induction time of crystallization, accelerate the formation of crystal nuclei, and change the polymorphism of fat crystals. The product treated by PU formed smaller and more uniform crystals to produce a more viscoelastic fat crystal network. In emulsion systems, ultrasonic treatments showed the same effect, but the effect of ultrasonic crystallization on the emulsion stability was different due to fat crystals in different emulsion systems. Dietary lipids are key ingredients during cooking, processing, and seasoning of carotenoid-rich fruits and vegetables, playing vitals in affecting the absorption and utilization of carotenoids for achieving their health benefits. Besides, dietary lipids have also been extensively studied to construct various delivery systems for carotenoids, such as micro/nanoparticles, micro/nanoemulsions, and liposomes. Currently, the efficacies of these techniques on improving carotenoid bioavailability are often evaluated using the micellization rate or "bioaccessibility" based on in vitro models. However, recent studies have found that dietary lipids may also affect the carotenoid uptake via intestinal epithelial cells and the efflux of intracellular chyle particles via lipid transporters. An increasing number of studies reveal the varied impact of different dietary lipids on the absorption of different carotenoids and some lipids may even have an inhibitory effect. Consequently, it is necessary to clarify the relationship between the addition of dietary lipids and the intestinal absorption of carotenoid to fully understand the role of lipids during this process. This paper first introduces the intestinal absorption mechanism of carotenoids, including the effect of bile salts and lipases on mixed micelles, the types and regulation of lipid transporters, intracellular metabolizing enzymes, and the efflux process of chyle particles. Then, the regulatory mechanism of dietary lipids during intestinal carotenoid absorption is further discussed. Finally, the importance of selecting the dietary lipids for the absorption and utilization of different carotenoids and the design of an efficient delivery carrier are emphasized. This review provides suggestions for precise dietary carotenoid supplementation and offere an important reference for constructing efficient transport carriers for liposoluble nutrients. In addition to microbial spoilage and lipid peroxidation, protein oxidation is increasingly recognized as a major cause for quality deterioration of muscle-based foods. Although protein oxidation in muscle-based foods has attracted tremendous interest in the past decade, specific oxidative pathways and underlying mechanisms of protein oxidation in aquatic products remain largely unexplored. The present review covers the aspects of the origin and site-specific nature of protein oxidation, progress on the characterization of protein oxidation, oxidized proteins in aquatic products, and impact of protein oxidation on protein functionalities. Compared to meat protein oxidation, aquatic proteins demonstrate a less extent of oxidation on aromatic amino acids and are more susceptible to be indirectly oxidized by lipid peroxidation products. Different from traditional measurement of protein carbonyls and thiols, proteomics-based strategy better characterizes the targeted oxidation sites within proteins. The future trends using more robust and accurate targeted proteomics, such as parallel reaction monitoring strategy, to characterize protein oxidation in aquatic products are also given. Spherical structures built from uni- and multilamellar lipid bilayers (LUV and MLV) are nowadays considered not just as nanocarriers of various kinds of therapeutics, but also as the vehicles that, when coupled with gold (Au) nanoparticles (NPs), can also serve as a tool for imaging and discriminating healthy and diseased tissues. Since the presence of Au NPs or their aggregates may affect the properties of the drug delivery vehicle, we investigated how the shape and position of Au NP aggregates adsorbed on the surface of MLV affect the arrangement and conformation of lipid molecules. By preparing MLVs constituted from 1,2-dipalmitoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (DPPC) in the presence of uncoated Au NP aggregates found i) both within liposome core and on the surface of the outer lipid bilayer, or ii) adsorbed on the outer lipid bilayer surface only, we demonstrated the maintenance of lipid bilayer integrity by microscopic techniques (cryo-TEM, and AFM). The employment of SERS and FTIR-ATR techniques enabled us not only to elucidate the lipid interaction pattern and their orientation in regards to Au NP aggregates but also unequivocally confirmed the impact of Au NP aggregates on the persistence/breaking of van der Waals interactions between hydrocarbon chains of DPPC. Upon in vivo administration of nanoparticles, a protein corona forms on their surface and affects their half-life in circulation, biodistribution properties, and stability; in turn, the composition of the protein corona depends on the physico-chemical properties of the nanoparticles. We have previously observed lipid composition-dependent in vitro and in vivo microRNA delivery from lipid nanoparticles. Here, we carried out an extensive physico-chemical characterisation to understand the role of the lipid composition on the in vivo fate of lipid-based nanoparticles. We used a combination of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), membrane deformability measurements, isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC), and dynamic light scattering (DLS) to probe the interactions between the nanoparticle surface and bovine serum albumin (BSA) as a model protein. The lipid composition influenced membrane deformability, improved lipid intermixing, and affected the formation of lipid domains while BSA binding to the liposome surface was affected by the PEGylated lipid content and the presence of cholesterol. These findings highlight the importance of the lipid composition on the protein-liposome interaction and provide important insights for the design of lipid-based nanoparticles for drug delivery applications. Over the last few decades, cancer has been considered a clinical challenge, being among the leading causes of mortality all over the world. Although many treatment approaches have been developed for cancer, chemotherapy is still the most utilized in the clinical setting. However, the available chemotherapeutics-based treatments have several caveats including their lack of specificity, adverse effects as well as cancer relapse and metastasis which mainly explains the low survival rate of patients. Lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) have been utilized as promising nanocarrier systems for chemotherapeutics to overcome the challenges of the currently applied therapeutic strategies for cancer treatment. Loading chemotherapeutic agent(s) into LNPs improves drug delivery at different aspects including specific targeting of tumours, and enhancing the bioavailability of drugs at the tumour site through selective release of their payload, thus reducing their undesired side effects on healthy cells. This review article delineates an overview of the clinical challenges in many cancer treatments as well as depicts the role of LNPs in achieving optimal therapeutic outcomes. Moreover, the review contains a comprehensive description of the many LNPs categories used as nanocarriers in cancer treatment to date, as well as the potential of LNPs for future applications in other areas of medicine and research. Monoclonal antibody Proprotein Convertase Subtilisin/Kexin type 9 (PCSK9) inhibitors reduce total cholesterol (TC), low density lipoproteins (LDL), high density lipoproteins (HDL), and triglycerides (TG). We assessed the ability of berberine, a natural PCSK9 inhibitor, to reduce lipid concentrations either alone or combined with other nutraceuticals. We searched PubMed, Scopus and EMBASE from inception to September 30th, 2022 for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) assessing 8-18 wk of berberine therapy on. A total of 41 RCTs with 4,838 patients met our inclusion criteria. Berberine containing products significantly reduced TC (MD −17.42 mg/dL [95%CI: −22.91 to −11.93]), LDL (MD −14.98 mg/dL [95%CI: −20.67 to −9.28]), and TG (MD −18.67 mg/dL [95%CI: −25.82 to −11.51]) while raising HDL (MD 1.97 mg/dL [95%CI: 1.16 to 2.78]) versus control (I2 > 72% for all analyses). Products with berberine alone had less robust effects on TC (MD −12.08 mg/dL [95%CI: −21.79 to −2.37]), LDL (MD −9.26 mg/dL [95%CI: −20.31 to 1.78]), and HDL (MD 1.38 mg/dL [95%CI: −1.27 to 4.03]) but TG effects were similar (MD −17.40 mg/dL [95%CI: −32.57 to −2.23]). Berberine along with red yeast rice reduced TC (MD −19.62 mg/dL [95%CI: −28.56 to −10.68]) and LDL (MD −18.79 mg/dL [95%CI: −28.03 to −9.54]) as did combination therapy with Silybum maranium for TC (MD −31.81 mg/dL [95%CI: −59.88 to −3.73]) and LDL (MD −30.82 mg/dL [95%CI: −56.48 to −5.16]). This meta-analysis of randomised clinical trials aimed to compare the effects of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) and its different protocols versus moderate-intensity continuous training (MICT) and/or control on total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglycerides, HbA1c levels, and fasting glucose in individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The search strategy was performed in PubMed/MEDLINE, Cochrane CENTRAL, EMBASE, Web of Science, Sport DISCUS, and PEDro, until January 2023. A total of 31 studies (1092 individuals) were included. When compared to control, HIIT decreased total cholesterol by −0.31 mmol/L (95% CI −0.49; −0.12), LDL by −0.31 mmol/L (95% CI −0.49; −0.12), triglycerides by −0.27 mmol/L (95% CI −0.33; −0.2), HbA1c by −0.75% (95% CI −0.97; −0.53), fasting glucose by −1.15 mmol/L (95% CI −1.44; −0.86), and increased HDL by 0.24 mmol/L (95% CI 0.06; 0.42). No difference was found in the comparison between HIIT versus MICT for any of the outcomes analysed, however subgroup analysis showed that a moderate-interval (>30s to < 2 min) and moderate-term (>4 to < 12 weeks) HIIT protocol reduced total cholesterol, when compared to MICT. Many inhalation exposures induce pulmonary inflammation contributing to disease progression. Inflammatory processes are actively regulated via mediators including bioactive lipids. Bioactive lipids are potent signaling molecules involved in both pro-inflammatory and resolution processes through receptor interactions. The formation and clearance of lipid signaling mediators are controlled by multiple metabolic enzymes. An imbalance of these lipids can result in exacerbated and sustained inflammatory processes which may result in pulmonary damage and disease. Dysregulation of pulmonary bioactive lipids contribute to inflammation and pulmonary toxicity following exposures. For example, inhalation of cigarette smoke induces activation of pro-inflammatory bioactive lipids such as sphingolipids, and ceramides contributing to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Additionally, exposure to silver nanoparticles causes dysregulation of inflammatory resolution lipids. As inflammation is a common consequence resulting from inhaled exposures and a component of numerous diseases it represents a broadly applicable target for therapeutic intervention. With new appreciation for bioactive lipids, technological advances to reliably identify and quantify lipids have occurred. In this review, we will summarize, integrate, and discuss findings from recent studies investigating the impact of inhaled exposures on pro-inflammatory and resolution lipids within the lung and their contribution to disease. Throughout the review current knowledge gaps in our understanding of bioactive lipids and their contribution to pulmonary effects of inhaled exposures will be presented. New methods being employed to detect and quantify disruption of pulmonary lipid levels following inhalation exposures will be highlighted. Green banana flour (GBF) and hydroalcoholic extract of red propolis (HERP) imporve the nutricional quality and preservation of fish nuggets. The nuggets were formulated using 13% of GBF and different concentrations (0%, 0.4%, 0.6%, and 0.8%) of the HERP, while the control was without the addition of GBF and HERP. The addition of the HERP influenced (p <.05) the acceptance of the sensory attributes, with an acceptability index > 70%. The nuggets containing 0.4% of HERP presented ash, lipid, resistant starch, and polyphenol contents superior (p <.05) to the commercial brand fish nugget sample. After 15 days stored at 4°C, the nuggets treated with the HERP presented lower lipid oxidation and psychrotrophic counts, when compared to samples added with sodium erythorbate. Lipid quality during frozen storage of the low trophic marine resource polychaete (Alitta virens) was evaluated after blanching, vacuum packing, and different storage temperatures (−23°C vs −27°C). In non-blanched samples, free fatty acid (FAA) reached a level of 15–20% after 12-months of frozen storage. 1H and31P nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) analyses showed that the increase in FFA could be attributed to both hydrolysis of phospholipids and triacylglycerols. Vacuum packing prevented lipid oxidation. Blanching hindered lipid hydrolysis and is thereby recommended to preserve valuable phospholipids during long-term frozen storage of polychaete, a resource that has attracted growing interest for use in aquaculture. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) represents the leading cause of death and accounts for almost 50% of all deaths in women worldwide. The menopausal transition is associated with central body fat accumulation, a decrease in energy expenditure, weight gain, insulin resistance and a pro-atherogenic lipid profile. Moreover, menopause is independently associated with an adverse effect on functional and structural indices of subclinical atherosclerosis. Women with premature ovarian insufficiency have heightened CVD risk compared to women of natural age at menopause. Furthermore, women with severe menopausal symptoms may have a more adverse cardiometabolic profile than those without symptoms. We reviewed the latest evidence on the cardiovascular management of perimenopausal or postmenopausal women. Clinicians should aim for cardiovascular risk stratification, followed by dietary and lifestyle advice as required based on individual needs. The medical management of cardiometabolic risk factors at midlife should always be individualized, focusing on hypertension, diabetes and dyslipidemia. Menopausal hormone therapy, when prescribed for the management of bothersome menopausal symptoms or for the prevention of osteoporosis, has also a beneficial effect on cardiometabolic risk factors. The current research was aimed to evaluate the antidiabetic activity of Terminalia citrina methanolic extract (TCME) by streptozotocin-induced diabetes in male Wistar rats. TCME exhibited better in-vitro antioxidant and alpha-amylase inhibitory activity as compared to other tested extracts. TCME at 250, 500, and 750 mg/kg showed notable (p <.05) antidiabetic potential by lowering fasting blood glucose level, restoring lipid level, serum amylase, HbA1c, kidney, and liver function tests as coevidenced from histological findings of the liver, pancreas, and kidney. TCME remarkably reinstated the antioxidant enzymatic activities (CAT: 0.181 ± 0.011 IU/mg protein, SOD: 21.45 ± 1.53 IU/mg protein) and reduced lipid peroxidation level (40.60 ± 2.41 µM/mg protein) in the liver and kidney tissue of diabetic rats at 750 mg/kg dose. The acute and subacute oral toxicity study of TCME exhibited no clinical toxicity signs and mortality. Hydrogen sulphide (H2S), a newly identified gasotransmitter, can be endogenously produced by cystathionine gamma-lyase (CSE) in the cardiovascular system. This study investigated the role of the CSE/H2S system on lipid overload-induced lipotoxicity and cardiac senescence. Lipid overload in rat cardiomyocyte cells (H9C2) promoted intracellular accumulation of lipid, oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunctions, lipid peroxidation and inhibited cell viability, all of which could be reversed by exogenously applied H2S. Further data revealed that H2S protected H9C2 cells from lipid overload-induced senescence by altering the expressions of lipid metabolism-related genes and inhibiting cellular acetyl-CoA and global protein acetylation. Enhancement of protein acetylation abolished the protective role of H2S on cardiac senescence. In vivo, knockout of the CSE gene strengthened cardiac lipid accumulation, protein acetylation, and cellular ageing in high fat diet-fed mice. Protein-lipid interactions are crucial for various cellular biological processes like intracellular signaling, membrane transport, and cytoskeletal dynamics. Therefore, studying these interactions is essential to understand and unravel their specific functions. Nevertheless, the interacting proteins of many lipids are poorly understood and still require systematic study. Liposomes are the most well-known and familiar biomimetic systems used to study protein-lipid interactions. Although liposomes have been widely used for studying protein-lipid interactions in classical methods such as the co-flotation assay (CFA), co-sedimentation assay (CSA), and flow cytometric assay (FCA), an overview of their current applications and developments in high-throughput methods is not yet available. Microalgal lipids are promising and sustainable sources for the production of third-generation biofuels, foods, and medicines. A high lipid yield during the extraction process in microalgae could be influenced by the suitable pretreatment and lipid extraction methods. The extraction method itself could be attributed to the economic and environmental impacts on the industry. This review summarizes the pretreatment methods including mechanical and non-mechanical techniques for cell lysis strategy before lipid extraction in microalgae biomass. The multiple strategies to achieve high lipid yields via cell disruption techniques are discussed. These strategies include mechanical (shear forces, pulse electric forces, waves, and temperature shock) and non-mechanical (chemicals, osmotic pressure, and biological) methods. At present, two techniques of the pretreatment method can be combined to increase lipid extraction from microalgae. The study aimed to protect patients' skin against ionizing irradiation during radiotherapy by using astaxanthin-encapsulated nanostructured lipid carriers (NLC-ATX). NLC-ATX was prepared by a combined method of hot homogenization and sonication. Cytotoxicity of NLC-ATX was evaluated by MTT colorimetric assay. The in vitro radioprotection of NLC-ATX for human fibroblast (HF) cells was investigated based on the level of ROS (reactive oxygen species), DNA damage, and cell death caused by X-irradiation. In addition, the in vivo radioprotection was evaluated based on the appearance and histological structure of the irradiated skin. NLC-ATX was successfully prepared, with a mean particle size, zeta potential, and encapsulation efficiency of 114.4 nm, −34.1 mV, and 85.67%, respectively. Compared to the control, NLC-ATX, at an optimum ATX concentration under in vitro condition, reduced the amount of generated ROS and DNA damage of 81.6% and 41.6%, respectively, after X-radiation, resulting in a significant decrease in cell death by 62.69%. Under in vivo condition, after the 9th day of X-irradiation (equivalent to an accumulated dose of 14 Gy), the dorsal skin of five out of six NLC-ATX-untreated mice exhibited grade-1 skin damage, according to CTCAE v5.0, while treatment with NLC-ATX protected 6/6 mice from acute skin damage. Moreover, on the 28th day after the first X-irradiation, the histological images illustrated that NLC-ATX at an ATX concentration of 0.25 µg/mL exhibited good recovery of the skin, with barely any difference noted in the collagen fibers and sebaceous glands compared to normal skin. AbstractBivalves are nutritious animal protein source for humans, rich in high quality proteins, lipids, and carbohydrates. Many studies have shown that ocean warming has detrimental effects on the nutritional quality of bivalves. Although a number of studies are available on the effect of ocean warming on the nutritional value of bivalves, this information is not well organized. In this context, the current study provides a critical review of the effects of ocean warming on the nutritional quality of commercially important edible marine bivalves. In general, ocean warming has caused a reduction in the total lipid and carbohydrate content of bivalves, especially those bivalves inhabiting temperate regions. As for protein, there is no general trend in the effects of ocean warming on the protein reserves of bivalves. In addition, the specific effects of elevated temperature on the macro-nutrients of bivalves highly depend on the tissues, sex and developmental stages of bivalves, as well as seasonal factors. This review not only fills in the knowledge gap regarding the effects of elevated temperature on the macro-nutrients of commercially important marine bivalves but also provides guidance for the establishment of bivalve aquaculture and fisheries management plans to mitigate the impact of climate change. Polar lipids including glycerophospholipids and sphingophospholipids are important nutrients and milk is a major source, particularly for infants. This systematic review describes the human and bovine milk polar lipid composition, structural organization, sources for formulation, and physiological functionality. A total of 2840 records were retrieved through Scopus, 378 were included. Bovine milk is a good source of polar lipids, where yield and composition are highly dependent on the choice of dairy streams and processing. In milk, polar lipids are organized in the milk fat globule membrane as a tri-layer encapsulating triglyceride. The overall polar lipid concentration in human milk is dependent on many factors including lactational stage and maternal diet. Here, reasonable ranges were determined where possible. Similar for bovine milk, where differences in milk lipid concentration proved the largest factor determining variation. The role of milk polar lipids in human health has been demonstrated in several areas and critical review indicated that brain, immune and effects on lipid metabolism are best substantiated areas. Moreover, insights related to the milk fat globule membrane structure-function relation as well as superior activity of milk derived polar lipid compared to plant-derived sources are emerging areas of interest regarding future research and food innovations. Understanding the related mechanisms between aerobic respiration and lipid biosynthesis may promote microalgal-biofuel industries through metabolic engineering. However, little is known about how aerobic respiration affects lipid biosynthesis in microalgae. Here, the changes in biochemistry and molecular biology were analysed in Auxenochlorella pyrenoidosa throughout nitrogen limitation (–N) and nitrogen resupply (+N) phases. Respiratory inhibitors were used to identify the roles of respiratory complexes in lipid biosynthesis. We found that during –N phase the growth profiles, and the amount and productivity of chlorophyll a, carbohydrates and proteins decreased, while the content and productivity of lipids increased. In addition, the lower unsaturation (DU ≤ 96.41 ± 0.38) showed that lipid accumulation under nitrogen limitation in A. pyrenoidosa was qualified for biodiesel production. Either relationships or significant correlations were found between lipid contents, reactive oxygen species (ROS), respiration rates, respiratory complexes activities and key gene expression in treatment groups. Moreover, the trends in the activities of complexes I and III, lipid contents and ROS production in +N phase were different from those in –N phase. Finally, the respiratory inhibitors increased the levels of total ROS and lipids in A. pyrenoidosa. These results suggested that nitrogen limitation may inhibit redox centers of complexes I and III in respiratory chains through mitochondria and nucleus, thus regulating intracellular ROS and lipid accumulation. The content of intramuscular fat (IMF) is one of the most important factors that has a large impact on meat quality, and it is an effective way to improve IMF according to marker-assisted selection (MAS). Fatty-acid synthase (FASN) is a key gene in meat lipid deposition and fatty acid composition. Thus, this study was conducted to investigate the expression profile of FASN in mRNA and protein levels using real-time quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) and western-blot methods. In addition, single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) within FASN in 921 Hu rams with IMF content records were investigated using DNA-pooling sequencing and improved multiple ligase detection reaction (iMLDR) methods. Consequently, the highest mRNA expression level of FASN was observed in the perinephric fat, and the lowest in the liver among the 11 tissues analyzed, while no significant difference was found in mRNA and protein expression levels in longissimus dorsi among individuals with different IMF contents. A total of 10 putative SNPs were identified within FASN, and 9 of them can be genotyped by iMLDR method. Notably, two SNPs were significantly associated with IMF content, including NC_040262.1: g.5157 A > G in intron 5 (p = 0.046) and NC_040262.1: g.9413 T > C in intron 16 (p = 0.041), which supply molecular markers for improving meat quality in sheep breeding. Methionine (Met) can promote milk fat synthesis in bovine mammary epithelial cells (BMECs), but the potential molecular mechanism is largely unknown. In this report, we aim to explore the role and molecular mechanism of AT-rich interaction domain 1A (ARID1A) in milk fat synthesis stimulated by Met. ARID1A knockdown and activation indicated that ARID1A negatively regulated the synthesis of triglycerides, cholesterol and free fatty acids and the formation of lipid droplets in BMECs. ARID1A also negatively regulated the phosphorylation of PI3K and AKT proteins, as well as the expression and maturation of SREBP1. Met stimulated the phosphorylation of PI3K and AKT proteins, as well as the expression and maturation of SREBP1, while ARID1A gene activation blocked the stimulatory effects of Met. We further found that ARID1A was located in the nucleus of BMECs, and Met reduced the nuclear localization and expression of ARID1A. ARID1A gene activation blocked the stimulation of PI3K and SREBP1 mRNA expression by Met. In summary, our data suggests that ARID1A negatively regulates milk fat synthesis stimulated by Met in BMECs through inhibiting the PI3K-SREBP1 signaling pathway, which may provide some new perspectives for improving milk fat synthesis. Lipid and energy metabolism are major constituents of mammal growth and thus fattening performance of cattle. This study was designed to evaluate the effects of polymorphisms in lipid and energy metabolism-related genes including oxidized low-density lipoprotein receptor 1 (OLR1), lactoferrin (LTF), stearoyl-CoA desaturase (SCD), beta-lactoglobulin (LGB), thyroglobulin (TG), annexin A9 (ANXA9), myogenic factor 5 (MYF5), protein kinase AMP-activated non-catalytic subunit gamma 3 (PRKAG3), and pituitary-specific transcriptional factor 1 (PIT1), on fattening performance in Simmental cattle. A total of 72 purebred Simmental bulls with a similar initial age and weight were fattened on the same farm for 10 months. Association analysis was performed using linear mixed models. The OLR1 marker was significantly associated with the final weight (FW), hot carcass weight (HCW), chilled carcass weight (CCW), dressing percentage (DP), and total weight gain (TWG). SCD affected the FW, TWG, and average daily live weight gain (ADWG). The present results clearly demonstrated the significant impact of the TG marker on fattening performance. It was highly significantly associated with the FW, HCW, CCW, and TWG. The SCD × TG and the OLR1 × TG interactions had remarkable effects on the traits analyzed. The GACC and CCCC haplotypes of the SCD × TG and OLR1 × TG, respectively, were found to be powerful markers for fattening performance in Simmentals. This study aimed to investigate the effect of vitamin C and aspirin on the growth performance of turkeys under normal conditions. For this purpose, 288 male turkeys, BUT6 strain, were used from 1-day-old to 12 weeks of age in nine treatments with four replications and eight birds per replication, as a 3 × 3 factorial experiment [three levels of vitamin C (V; 0, 250, and 500 mg/kg feed), and three levels of aspirin (A; 0, 75, and 150 mg/kg feed)] in a completely randomized design. Our results demonstrated that supplementing with vitamin C and aspirin had no effect on plasma total protein and albumin levels, but the data revealed significant effects on total cholesterol, triglycerides, very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL), and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) levels in the supplemental groups. Also, the interaction of vitamin C and aspirin significantly increased high-density lipoprotein (HDL) and decreased plasma malondialdehyde (MDA) and abdominal fat pad. The results of this study indicated the beneficial effects of vitamin C and aspirin supplements may be related to changes in plasma lipids and body fat under normal conditions. Functionalized drug delivery systems have been investigated to improve the targetability and intracellular translocation of therapeutic drugs. We developed high functionality and quality lipids that met unique requirements, focusing on the quality of functional lipids for the preparation of targeted nanoparticles using microfluidic devices. While searching for a lipid with high solubility and dispersibility in solvents, which is one of the requirements, we noted that KK-(EK)4-lipid imparts nonspecific cellular association to polyethylene glycol (PEG)-modified (PEGylated) liposomes, such as cell-penetrating peptides (CPPs). We investigated whether KK-(EK)4-lipid, which has a near-neutral charge, is a novel CPP-modified lipid that enhances the intracellular translocation of nanoparticles. However, the cellular association mechanism of KK-(EK)4-lipid is unknown. Therefore, we synthesized (EK)n-lipid derivatives based on the sequence of KK-(EK)4-lipid and determined the sequence sites involved in cellular association. In addition, KK-(EK)4-lipid was applied to extracellular vesicles (EVs) and mRNA encapsulated lipid nanoparticles (mRNA-LNPs). KK-(EK)4-lipid-modified EVs and mRNA-LNPs showed higher cellular association and in vitro protein expression, respectively, compared to unmodified ones. Amphotericin B (AmB) is regarded as a first-line therapy against life-threatening invasive fungal infections. Due to its poor oral bioavailability, AmB is restricted to intravenous administration in clinical practice. As science continues to move forward, two lipid-based formulations are successfully developed for oral AmB administration, currently undergoing phase I clinical trials. Encouragingly, lipid-AmB conjugates with emulsions also exhibit a better bioavailability, which may be another strategy to design oral AmB formulation in clinical practice. Thus, this review mainly focused on the two lipid-based formulations in clinical trials, and discussed the potential perspectives of AmB-lipid conjugation-loaded nanocochleates and emulsions. Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is the most common epithelial tumor of the oral cavity. Gingival tumors, a unique type of OSCC, account for 10% of these malignant tumors. The antineoplastic properties of statins, including pitavastatin (PV), and the essential oil of the Pinus densiflora leaf (Pd oil) have been adequately reported. The goal of this investigation was to develop nanostructured lipid carriers (NLCs) containing PV combined with Pd oil and to determine their cytotoxicity against the cell line of human gingival fibroblasts (HGF-1). A central composite quadratic design was adopted to optimize the nanocarriers. The particle size and stability index of the nano-formulations were measured to evaluate various characteristics. TEM analysis, the entrapment efficiency, dissolution efficiency, and the cytotoxic efficiency of the optimized PV-loaded nanostructured lipid carrier drug delivery system (PV-Pd-NLCs) were evaluated. Then, the optimal PV-Pd-NLCs was incorporated into a Carbopol 940® gel base and tested for its rheological features and its properties of release and cell viability. The optimized NLCs had a particle size of 98 nm and a stability index of 89%. The gel containing optimum PV-Pd-NLCs had reasonable dissolution efficiency and acceptable rheological behavior and acquired the best cytotoxic activity against HGF-1 cell line among all the formulations developed for the study. The in vitro cell viability studies revealed a synergistic effect between PV and Pd oil in the treatment of gingival cancer. Adipose triglyceride lipase (ATGL) is the key enzyme for the degradation of triacylglycerols (TAGs). It functions in concert with other enzymes to mobilize TAG and supply fatty acids (FAs) for energy production. Dysregulated lipolysis leads to excess concentrations of circulating FAs, which may lead to destructive and lipotoxic effects to the organism. To understand the role of ATGL in mammary lipid metabolism, ATGL was overexpressed in goat mammary epithelial cells (GMECs) by using a recombinant adenovirus system. ATGL overexpression decreased lipid droplet (LD) accumulation and cellular TG content (p < 0.05) along with a decrease in the expression of the key enzyme that catalyzes the final step of TG synthesis (DGAT). Significant increases were observed in the expression of genes related to lipolysis (hormone-sensitive lipase [HSL]) and FA desaturation (SCD) by ATGL overexpression. Genes responsible for FA oxidation (PPARα), LD formation and secretion (ADRP and BTN1A1), and long-chain FA uptake (CD36) were all decreased by ATGL overexpression (p < 0.05). The primary products of TAG lipolysis, free FAs (FFAs), were notably increased in the ATGL-overexpressing cells. Gouty arthritis (GA) is a characteristically inflammatory disease often associated with lipid metabolism disorder. Huangqin Qingrechubi capsule (HQC) has been used for the treatment of GA. To explore the mechanism of HQC in the treatment of GA. A total of 30 GA patients (GA group) and 30 healthy subjects [normal control (NC) group] were recruited. The GA group was treated with HQC (3.6 g/d) for 10 days. Lipid metabolism and inflammation indexes were detected. Five herbal names of HQC, or 'gouty arthritis', 'hyperlipidemia' and 'inflammation' were used as key words to search related databases for network pharmacological analysis. Subsequently, GA-fibroblast-like synoviocytes (FLSs) were stimulated with GA-peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) (3:1) and treated with HQC drug-containing serum (20%). RT-qPCR, Western blot, and ELISA were conducted to further explore the mechanism of HQC in improving GA. In clinical observation, HQC decreased the expression of lncRNA H19 and IL-1β, and increased the expression of adiponectin (APN) and IL-4 in the GA group (about half). Through network pharmacology, the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway was identified. Cell experiments showed that HQC treatment reduced the viability of GA-FLSs (49.61%), up-regulated the expression of IL-4 (155.18%), IL-10 (165.13%), and APN (31.24%), and down-regulated the expression of lncRNA H19 (33.70%), IL-1β (64.70%), TNF-α (78.32%), p-PI3K (48.80%), and p-AKT (53.48%). HQC improved lipid metabolism disorder and inflammatory response of GA by regulating the lncRNA H19/APN/PI3K/AKT. Previously, we found Alisma orientalis beverage (AOB), a classic traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formulation, had the potential effect of treating atherosclerosis (AS). The underlying mechanism was still unclear. As an extention of our previous work, to investigate the underlying mechanism of action of AOB in the treatment for AS. Network pharmacology was conducted using SwissTargetPrediction, GeneCards, DrugBank, Metascape, etc., to construct component-target-pathway networks. In vivo, AS models were induced by a high-fat diet (HFD) for 8 consecutive weeks in APOE−/− mice. After the administration of AOB (3.8 g/kg, i.g.) for 8 weeks, we assessed the aortic plaque, four indicators of blood lipids, and expression of the PI3K/AKT/SREBP-1 pathway in liver. Network pharmacology showed that PI3K/AKT/SREBP-1 played a role in AOB's treatment for AS (PI3K: degree = 18; AKT: degree = 17). Moreover, we found that the arterial plaque area and four indicators of blood lipids were all significantly reversed by AOB treatment in APOE−/− mice fed with HFD (plaque area reduced by about 37.75%). In addition, phosphorylated expression of PI3K/AKT and expression of SREBP-1 were obviously increased in APOE−/− mice fed with HFD, which were all improved by AOB (PI3K: 51.6%; AKT: 23.6%; SREBP-1: 40.0%). AOB had therapeutic effects for AS by improving blood lipids and inhibition of the PI3K/AKT/SERBP-1 pathway in the liver. Cisplatin, as a first-line treatment for ovarian cancer, is associated with debilitating adverse effects, including nephrotoxic and haematotoxic effects. This study determines whether nanocurcumin, combined with cisplatin, would give additional benefit to kidney function and haematological parameters in rats with ovarian cancer. Twenty-five Wistar rats were divided into five untreated rats and 20-dimethylbenz(a)anthracene (DMBA)-induced ovarian cancer rats. The 20 ovarian cancer rats were divided into four treatment groups: vehicle, cisplatin, cisplatin-curcumin, and cisplatin-nanocurcumin. Cisplatin was given at the dose of 4 mg/kg BW once weekly, while curcumin or nanocurcumin was administered at 100 mg/kg BW daily for four weeks. At the end of treatment, we analysed kidney function, haematological parameters, and inflammatory and oxidative stress markers from plasma. Nanocurcumin alleviates the increase in kidney function markers and abnormalities in haematological indices in rats treated with cisplatin. Compared to cisplatin-treated rats, plasma urea levels decreased from 66.4 to 47.7 mg/dL, creatinine levels lowered from 0.87 to 0.82 mg/dL, and neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) levels declined from 8.51 to 3.59 mIU/mg protein. Furthermore, the therapy increased glutathione activities (from 2.02 to 3.23 U/µL), reduced lipid peroxidation (from 0.54 to 0.45 nmol/mL), and decreased plasma TNF-α (from 270.6 to 217.8 pg/mL). Cisplatin with nanocurcumin in an ovarian cancer rat model may provide additional benefits as a preventive agent against renal impairment and cisplatin-induced haematological toxicity. Alkanet (Alkanna tinctoria) is a plant native to and cultivated in parts of Europe, Asia and the Middle East. It has been used for thousands of years as a medicinal agent and as a colorant for textiles, food and cosmetics. An extract from the root of this plant has been used with a mordant to stain nuclei. We describe here the versatility of different extracts from this plant to stain lipids red and to counterstain certain other tissue elements blue. The color variation and selective differential staining is due to solvent polarity and pH. Extracts contain numerous chemical species, all of which are derivatives of the indicator dye, naphthazurin. Our red extract is nonionic below pH 7 and partitions from its somewhat polar solvent of 100% isopropanol to nonpolar lipids. The blue extract is dianionic at high pH in 70% isopropanol and binds ionically to cationic tissue structures such as collagen, muscle and cytoplasm of other cells. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The current world energy crisis and increasing greenhouse gas emissions demand a shift from fossil-based fuels to alternative and sustainable biofuels. The innate potential of microalgae over traditional terrestrial feedstocks to provide a high-quality and sustainable fuel portfolio has been recognized. Microalgae are known to mitigate atmospheric CO2 and convert it to valuable metabolites and bioactive compounds. The high growth rate of microalgal biomass with no additional requirements of feed and arable land makes microalgae as realistic alternative to existing biofuels sources. Micro-algae can store more primary metabolites under abiotic stress, which can be used as a possible source of energy. These metabolite storing abilities of microalgae have become a point of interest for the scientific community as the accumulated lipids serve as potential feedstock for biodiesel production by transesterification, whereas the carbohydrates can be used as the feedstock for bioethanol production by fermentation. Although microalgae-based biofuels are viable sources of energy, their commercialization and deployment in the fuel market remain a challenge. As a result, efforts are being undertaken to make it more cost-effective. This review describes the microalgae biorefinery method for producing biofuel along with its commercial potential, latest research updates in biofuel research, strategies to improve the algal metabolite content along with the limitations of using algal biomass for biofuels with possible solutions to overcome those limitations. Aim: The goal of this study is to optimisation and evaluation of dopamine-loaded NLC (NLCDOPA) for achieve dopamine concentrations into brain for treatment of Parkinson's disease which causes progressive neuronal death. Method: NLC-DOPA prepared by homogenisation method using solid lipids (Cholesterol and Soya lecithin), liquid lipid (Oleic acid) and surfactant (Poloxamer-188) as major excipients, optimised by central composite design using design expert-13 software. The optimised formulations were characterised by particle size, zeta potential, entrapment efficiency, SEM, TEM, FTIR, DSC, XRD, stability study and in-vitro drug release. The histopathology of rat brain tissues and goat nasal tissues were performed. The ex-vivo (permeability and nasal ciliotoxicity study) and in vivo pharmacodynamics study were also accomplished to determine its efficacy and potency of NLC. Result: The NLC-DOPA formulations were optimised in particle size and (EE)% with range from 85.53 ± 0.703 to 106.11 ± 0.822 nm and 82.17 ± 0.794 to 95.45 ± 0.891%, respectively. The optimised formulation F11 showing best goodness-fitted model kinetic, followed by Korsmeyer- Peppas equation and zero order kinetic. The SEM and TEM confirmed the spherical and smooth morphology of formulation. FTIR and DSC spectra were given compatibility of compound and XRD diffractograms confirmed the amorphous nature. An ex-vivo study was showed the high permeability coefficient (6.67*1 0-4 cm/min, which is twice, compare to pure drug) and there was no damage in nasal mucosa, confirmed by the ciliotoxicity study. In-vivo study was shown significant effects of optimised NLC-DOPA on locomotor activity, force-swimming test and neurochemical assessment using rotenone induced Parkinson's model on Albino Wistar rats. Conclusion: NLC-DOPA was prepared and optimised successfully with increased bioavailability of drug from the NLC into brain with reduce toxicity in effective treatment of Parkinson's disease. Analyzing the effects of interventions from a theoretical and statistical perspective that allows understanding these dynamic relationships of obesity etiology can be a more efficient and innovative way of understanding the phenomenon's complexity. Thus, we aimed to analyze the pattern of cardiovascular risk factors between-participants, and the effects within-participants of a multidisciplinary intervention on cardiovascular risk factors in overweight children. This is a randomized clinical trial, and 41 participated in this study. A multicomponent intervention (physical activities, nutritional and psychological counseling) was performed for 10 weeks. Anthropometric and hemodynamics measurements, lipid and glucose profile, cardiorespiratory fitness, and left ventricular mass were evaluated. A network analysis was done. Considering patterns in the network at baseline, WC, WHR, BMI, and Fat were the main variables for cardiovascular risks. Group was the most critical variable in the within-participant network. Participating in a multicomponent intervention and decreasing body fat promoted beneficial cardiovascular factors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
