The solid state photodimerization of ethyl coumarin-3-carboxylate and its 6-Cl and 6-Br (1a-c) derivatives as well as the methyl and ethyl alcoholysis derivatives of ethyl coumarin-3-carboxylate photodimer are reported in the context of crystal engineering. Ethyl coumarin-3-carboxylates photodimerize topochemically to form anti head-to-tail stereoisomers (2a-c). The extent of lactone methanolysis of 2a depends on the boiling temperature of the solvent to produce 2-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-3-oxo-8bH-4-oxa-cyclobuta[a]naphthalene-1,1,2a-tricarboxylic acid 1,2a-diethyl ester 1-methyl ester (3a) and 2,4-bis-[(2-hydroxyphenyl]cyclobutane-1,1,3,3-tetracarboxylic acid diethyl ester dimethyl ester (4a) in 1:2 proportion, whereas the ethanolysis of 2a only yields 2-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-3-oxo-8bH-4-oxa-cyclobuta[a]naphthalene-1,1,2a-tricarboxylic acid triethyl ester (5a). The molecular structure of 2a-c and 3-5a were elucidated by 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy. Also the molecular and supramolecular structures of 2a,b and 3,4a were studied by X-ray diffraction. Most of the C-H...X (X = O, Ph), π...π and dipolar interactions in the photodimers 2a,b and derivative 3a are preserved from the corresponding original coumarin monomers. Nine tetraalkylammonium salts, with R = Me, Et, nPr and nBu, of four different carboxylic acids, namely isophthalic acid, 5-nitroisophthalic acid, trimesic acid and pyromellitic acid (1,2,4,5-benzenetetracarboxylic acid), have been prepared and their supramolecular structures analyzed by X-ray crystallography. The [RCOOH...HOOCR] homodimeric motif characteristic for carboxylic acids has not been detected, but instead, in all compounds a [RCOOH...OOCR]- unit was present. The hydrogen-bonding geometries and interaction energies of the different discrete and water-expanded hydrogen-bonding patterns formed between the carboxyl and the carboxylate group have been analyzed systematically by theoretical calculations at the MP2/6-31G(d,p) level of theory. The Jacobite rising of 1745–1746 saw several thousand Scots rebel against the British crown. Yet it also provided opportunities for Scots to demonstrate their loyalty to the crown. After the rising was over, a brutal pacification was accompanied by significant legislative and institutional changes which sought to inculcate long-term loyalty in the Highlands. Once again, numerous Scots participated in the framing and implementation of these changes, which eventually also provided an opportunity for the disloyal to enter the imperial fold. This article examines the roles of loyalist Scots during and after the rising. In doing so it demonstrates understandings of loyalty, neutrality, and disloyalty during this transformative period and illustrates the important role of Scots in inculcating loyalty in the Highlands. It argues that the experiences of Scots, and the British more generally, in this domestic setting influenced the British imperial state's attempts to actively craft loyalty elsewhere in the British Atlantic World, particularly in North America. Current outcomes of immigration enforcement policies and apparatuses call for rethinking the ethics behind our understanding of community belonging, human rights and just society. The ethics at work are often presented as emotions creating particular affective atmosphere that permit the ongoing implementation of enforcing migration. This Special Issue tackles emotions as processes of organizing that are mobilized in support of certain ethics. In the context of immigration enforcement, these emotions are not self-explanatory, but they can justify the potential for violence and even deem it necessary. The emotions or affects of enforcers (as opposed to migrants) have been less addressed, and this Special Issue aims to be a novel collection. The articles pay particular attention to racism and to the understanding of institutional racism within state structures. They reveal the ways in which emotions are instrumental to the operations of state bureaucracy within the repressive migration apparatus and point to the ethics that allows individuals to conform state structures of oppression. The shortage of human resources is a key problem restricting the development of China's hospitality industry. In the meantime, Chinese hospitality higher education faces high graduate leakage – their undergraduates as the most promising hospitality human resource are reluctant to pursue a career in the hotel industry. Therefore, based on a framework of the perception of a job-the perception of a person-outcome, this study explored the negative effects of perceived occupational stigma and work dirtiness on hospitality management undergraduates' career choice intentions. Structural equation modelling was applied using 928 questionnaires received from 31 universities in China. The results also revealed the psychological mechanism of face concern and self-esteem, as well as the moderating role of career development programmes. From the perspective of Chinese Confucian culture, this research explicated the reason for Chinese hospitality management undergraduates' giving up on a hotel career, and provided valuable implications for hospitality higher education and hotel human resource management. Network orchestrators try to mobilise value from multi-stakeholder settings for innovation. While most of these settings for innovation are dynamic and fast-paced, we explore an empirical case in which members are not deeply engaged initially, whereas the orchestrators themselves are highly active and committed. Building on a qualitative study of a multi-stakeholder innovation network in the context of autonomous driving, we carve out the challenges orchestrators face in these 'sluggish' network settings. In addition, our findings unfold three practices orchestrators use to cultivate members' commitment. Based on these findings, we expand the theoretical understanding of network orchestration by showing practices of orchestration that specifically focus on the creation of commitment among network members that are generally interested but remain passive at first. Furthermore, by assessing how orchestrators try to align members' time horizons with their own, we unpack the idea of orchestrators as temporal brokers that sequence activities in multi-temporal innovation environments. Edward Gibbon Wakefield articulated one of the most influential theories of settler colonialism in the nineteenth century. Although his writings have attracted considerable attention from scholars, the content of his ideas remains disputed. He has been claimed as both the prophetic voice of a reformed British Empire and the architect of indigenous dispossession, while others have called into question his self-professed originality. This paper explores the place of global mobility in Wakefield's writings, and it does so by tracking his engagement with stadial theory. While Wakefield's adaptation of the progressive view of history initially excluded Aboriginal Australians from its analysis, it paradoxically enlarged when put into colonial practice. The syntheses and structural characterizations of a series of anthracene-tethered Cu(I) phosphine dithiocarbamate complexes, [CuL(PPh3)2], are described in this article. All complexes were readily prepared from corresponding ligands with various acyclic and cyclic N-alkyl substituents and [Cu(PPh3)2(NO3)]. Steric hindrance imposed on the anthracenyl rings by dithiocarbamate, N-alkyl substituents and triphenylphosphine moieties in complexes 1-6 are not detected, as evidenced by the sharp aromatic resonances in 1H NMR spectra. X-ray crystallography reveals distorted tetrahedral chelation environments around the Cu(I) centers in 2 and 3 as well as extensive C–S···π and C–H···π intermolecular interactions in their solid state packings. The complexes display characteristic anthracene-based absorption and emission properties. The emission quantum yields of the complexes are poor (1.0–2.7 × 10−2) but the aggregation-induced emission effects are perceived in aqueous DMSO solutions. This article considers Hobbes' contribution to the development of constitutionalist thought by contextualizing his treatment of the concepts of treason and fundamental law in De cive (1642, 2nd ed. 1647) and Leviathan (1651). While in Leviathan he adopts the controversial conception of treason as a violation of fundamental law that had been employed to convict Charles I of high treason in 1649, he draws on the original meaning of the term "fundamental law", as outlined in the most influential early analysis of Innocent Gentillet, to deny that fundamental laws can constrain the rights and powers of the sovereign. He bolsters this position by treating fundamental law as natural, not civil, law. While citizens commit treason when they violate the original covenant that establishes the sovereign, citizens cannot appeal to a human court for violations of fundamental law by the sovereign (who must render account for violations of natural law only to God). Hobbes' ingenious reconceptualization of fundamental law, hence, shows that, when understood correctly, the theory of treason embraced by parliamentarians could never support the violent resistance against, and overthrow of, a monarch like Charles I. Despite redundancies having far reaching consequences for organisations, relatively limited attention has been paid to the conflicting experiences of those implementing the redundancy process; the redundancy envoys. By drawing on theories of cognitive dissonance and 'dirty work' we explain how individuals implementing redundancies can experience a disconnect between their outward and inner emotions. We reconceptualise redundancy envoys as quasi-dirty workers as they intermittently perform 'dirty work' tasks that may be perceived as morally tainted, whilst recognising their conventional role incorporates tasks perceived as contrary to that of 'dirty work'. Our study draws on insider research access to redundancy envoys over a five-year period during the implementation of four consecutive redundancy programmes, providing the opportunity to observe decisions and actions in 'real time.' We offer a contemporary reconceptualisation of the redundancy envoywhich permits a deeper understanding of the negative impact on redundancy envoys and offers opportunities to examine how this can be reduced. In addition, it is anticipated that the results of this study will offer support to HR functions in reducing the stigma of 'dirty work' for redundancy envoys with the intention of enhancing the management of redundancy implementation. Although he is little read today, especially by Anglophone academics, Charles Dupont-White (1807–78) deserves the attention of historians of political thought for two reasons. First, he was an original and powerful theorist of a more statist brand of liberalism that in several ways proved a harbinger of later liberal and social-democratic ideas. Second, he was responsible for the original translations into French of two of John Stuart Mill's most important works, On Liberty and Considerations on Representative Government. Unlike most author-translator relationships, however, Dupont-White was anything but an uncritical admirer. This essay reconstructs Dupont-White's general political-social theory as well as examines his specific differences from and criticisms of Mill, including his attempt to construct an alternative defense of freedom of speech. How perceived occupational social taint in the presence of core self-evaluation and role identity salience can influence the formation of a target and context-specific occupational helping identity of members engaged in socially tainted occupations is examined in this study. In alignment with the extant literature, we identify this identity as a prosocial helping identity (PHI). A longitudinal field study was conducted in two waves with individuals engaged in drug de-addiction and rehabilitation centres. The findings reveal that perceived occupational social taint significantly influences PHI via role-identity salience when occupational members' core self-evaluation is high. This study advances identity work and social identity theories by establishing how and when PHI as an occupational helping identity can be formed among occupational members engaged in a "socially tainted occupation" not because of their nature of work performed per se, but their proximity to the service beneficiaries viewed as dirty by the society. The place of humour in organisational interactions has been the subject of long-standing interest. Studies have considered the positive role of humour in increasing social contact and promoting group cohesion, while warning it can be a means for expressing hostility and excluding group members. However, more ambiguous uses of humour remain underexplored and under-theorised. Using a single case study of employee experiences at 'Hillside', a high-security prison in the UK, we address this gap. Adopting Julia Kristeva's 'theory of the abject', we conceptualise 'abject humour' as a disruptive activity, which is composite, shady and sinister. We show that, despite Hillside's adoption of Challenge It, Change It as a UK-wide safeguarding policy, the liminal spaces abject humour opens and occupies, are difficult to regulate. Those spaces trap both perpetrators and targets, and necessitate the use of avoidance, compliance, and retaliation strategies by the latter, as ways of coping. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper examines how emotion rules are socially constructed and how and why they are enacted and challenged through specific modes of embodiment in face-to-face interactions. The paper broadens the understanding of emotion rules by connecting them to aesthetics to explore face-to-face interactions. This paper is based on ethnographic data gathered from a two-year study of a micro-sized service company. It explores the structure, function, and meaning of three emotion rules: (1) the emotionality rule, (2) the enthusiasm rule, and (3) the nice way rule as enacted by the company's chief executive officer (CEO) and employees. This paper enhances the understanding of the role of emotion rules in establishing an innovative and democratic organisation. It offers insight into how emotion rules were enacted, challenged, and broken in an unexpected situation when the CEO announces her non-consultative decision that affected the company's employees. This paper highlights the performative value and political power of emotions in public sector board governance. We explore how board members display, manage and (re)negotiate emotions both purposefully and unconsciously through interactions in a UK National Health Service (NHS) Foundation Trust. This topic is investigated through an ethnonarrative approach and a performative perspective to understand the role and value of emotions in this particular organizational setting. Our data, captured through interviews and participant observations, highlight the inherent performative and political nature of emotions established through ritualized practice, impromptu displays, emotion norms, and power dynamics. We also highlight the purposeful instigation and manipulation of emotions to pursue individual or collective agendas. This paper thus contributes to both performance theory and the study of emotions management in organizations by exploring how the politics of emotions and emotion norms are experienced as valuable resources in the context of public board governance. In this paper, the biological applications of synthetic dysprosium(III) complex, with 4,5-diazafluoren-9-one (dafone) ligand, including DNA/BSA interaction, antibacterial and anticancer activity were studied in vitro. The bovine serum albumin (BSA) and fish DNA (FS-DNA) binding of the dysprosium complex were studied by multi-spectrophotometric as well as computational calculation. Its DNA and BSA binding ability were estimated by fluorescence, absorption, circular dichroism spectroscopy, and viscosity measurements (only for DNA). The Dy-complex binds to DNA and BSA presenting high binding constants. For both DNA/BSA binding, the negative signs of thermodynamic parameter confirmed that hydrogen bonds and van der Waals forces play a main role in the interaction process. The competitive experiments with ethidium bromide (EtBr) and rhodamine B exhibited that the Dy-complex interacts with DNA via groove binding. The BSA competitive experiments showed that Dy-complex interacts with site 3 of BSA, which was completely arranged by docking studies. This complex showed high antimicrobial and cytotoxicity. Besides, nanocarriers of Dy-complex were produced, and the anticancer activities of these compounds were measured. This paper presents a case study of finger rings and pendants from England and Wales from the period 1400–1700, which have been recorded with the Portable Antiquities Scheme, and that feature the shape of the heart or inscriptions of the word 'heart'. The paper explores how these objects can inform us about the embodied experience, perception and expression of love and other emotions in the period in question, and how this reflects contemporary medical and popular ideas held about the heart. Although there have been important developments in the provision of education for sustainability, the focus remains on the transmission of knowledge, and analysis of case studies that seldom relate to the daily lives and concerns of higher education students. Scholars and educators have pointed to alternatives that engage with authentic aspects of learning, including critical thinking, socio-emotional aspects, creativity and a renewed focus on nurturing values and virtues, offering a meaningful alternative for education. In this paper, we draw upon our own experience of more than 10 years treading the path of education for sustainability in management studies and our integration of aesthetics through the use of art-based methods and beauty. We focus on three collaborative educational experiences, where we have aimed at integrating conversations following Heather Höpfl's ideas on virtues and aesthetics in management education. We argue that knowledge alone is not enough to engage students to make durable changes, and we suggest exploring aesthetics in its different manifestations for meaningful transformations in education for sustainability. This paper offers a reflexive ethnographic account to problematize conventional approaches to academic teaching that focus purely on rational, disembodied, and linear production and consumption of knowledge, in neoliberal, metric-driven academic environments. Interweaving diary notes and reflexive dialogical exchanges with images of arts-based teaching, we discuss how we might engage both students and teachers in embodied and relational forms of learning and knowing grounded in experiences of unknowing and unlearning. We discuss the potentials of exposing in the classroom the messy, 'dirty', dreamy, sensuous, embodied, affective and artistic work that informs teaching differently to disrupt conventional Business School pedagogies. Engaging with such creative possibilities might, we suggest, meaningfully transform management education and enable educators to cultivate an epistemic humility that transcends the ego. Therefore, this meshwork of teaching against the grain might also help resist and hopefully reframe contextual constraints and hierarchical dynamics impeding meaningful and relational Business School pedagogies. This paper aims to resolve a seeming paradox in Adam Smith's study of history with regard to inference to the best explanation. In the Wealth of Nations Smith argued the priority of "natural progress" over the model of historical progress as evidenced by many contemporary historians. These two competing exercises in philosophical history raise the previously unexplored question of what are critical tests to justify which model is the best, with Smith's wide use of scientific realist standards such as seeking for underlying general causality, generality in explanatory and predictive power, and appeal to the arts of persuasion. Calvin's political doctrine stems from his ecclesiology, in response to both the Papal doctrine on the delegate power of the magistrates and the Lutheran subordination of the Church to the civil authorities. He was not concerned with discussing the best possible form of secular government, but rather with preparing a theological justification of civil power that would make it depend exclusively on God, not on the people. I will hold that Calvin regards the people's function as merely instrumental: they accept the authority chosen by God, but do not institute it. Political vocation and the transmission of power that is indispensable to it both derive uniquely and exclusively from God. The discrepancies apparent in different authors' interpretations can be clarified by recovering the context of his argumentation. This is the central objective of this article. As the most famous critic of John Stuart Mill, James Fitzjames Stephen has often been assumed to have been a religious conservative or even reactionary. In contrast to these assessments, this article shows that Stephen's most consistent enemies were what he took to be the two most significant religious forces of the modern world: Ultramontane Catholicism and Comtean Positivism. The article explores his objections to these two religious ideologies, which he saw as sharing certain harmful features. It then shows that his famous critiques of John Stuart Mill and liberalism had much in common with his attacks on Ultramontanism and Positivism; for example, he charged that they rested on an implausible philosophical anthropology and that they degraded the state. Reaction ofN-salicylylidenepyridin-2-amine and boric acid in ethanol gives a boric ester (1) with N→B coordination bond. The experimental result shows that the process of the boric acid esterifying and the C-N single bond forming is a concerted reaction. Addition of boric acid to imine leads to boric ester of carbinolamine. The molecular structure is confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and1H spectrum. This article explores academics' appearance and gendered performativites in the neoliberal university. Institutions' demands for academics to form scholarly identities on campus and online reproduce and legitimise traditional workplace discrimination on the bases of gender, race, class, and the body in new ways. Based on data collected as part of a broader feminist research project on gender and academic performativity and identity in the contemporary Australian university, this article draws on narrative inquiry to examine the ways in which academic women undertake a gendered form of aesthetic labour in their professional lives. Double standards imposed upon women in an equity and diversity-laden environment pressure women to adhere to the 'empowered woman' trope, but also deferential and subservient to the re-masculinised institution. This article reveals the commodification of aesthetics as well as the pressures, pleasures, and desires placed on appearance, re-orienting future discussions of gendered aesthetic labour towards feminist resistance. The purpose of this paper is to reframe child forensic interviewing in terms of emotional labor. Child forensic interviewing practice illustrates a public service function that demands emotional labor yet fails to empower its workers with skills to preserve their personal wellbeing. Under an ethic of care, public servants are not the means to organizational ends. Failing to articulate emotional labor demands fosters occupational stress and burnout. While many studies examine negative psychological outcomes from public service work, few examine the impact on children's services workers, and even fewer explore emotional labor as a mechanism through which negative outcomes arise. The concept of the gaze plays an important role in (post)colonial organizational analysis. It addresses dynamics of looking and being seen, particularly as they pertain to knowledge and identity. Drawing on Derrida's writing on spectrality as it intersects with text and aesthetics, we chart a theoretical framework with which we broaden and deepen extant approaches to the gaze. We illustrate its organizational dynamics across two vignettes that examine writing on the Sphinx by Hegel and Mark Twain. Our work broadens the literature on the gaze with a new view on the (re)production of presence and absence. It also deepens reflection by outlining how the occupation of concern is shaped by interested blindness and unease at a gaze from a specter. These insights invite reconsideration of extant views on knowledge and identity within (post)colonial organizational analysis and inspire reflection on how scholars can participate in tracing the organization of geographies of concern. A series of new diorganotin(IV) complexes of the type [R′2SnL] have been synthesized by the reaction of 2-benzoyl-1H-indene-1,3(2H)-dione Schiff bases with R′2SnCl2, (R′ = Me, Et, n-Bu, Ph) in 1:1 molar ratio. These complexes were well characterized by IR, 1H, 13C, 119Sn NMR, XRD and mass spectrometry techniques. In the search for biologically more effective antimicrobial agents, all the synthesized ligands and organotin complexes were evaluated for their in vitro antimicrobial activities against two Gram-positive and two Gram-negative bacteria, and three fungal strains by serial dilution method. The results of spectral data revealed that the complexes formed were pentacoordinated with tridentate ligands which coordinated through azomethine N and carbonyl O and carboxylate O to the central tin atom. The ligands on coordination with tin metal showed a discernible augmentation in biocidal activity, however, the Ph and Bu complexes were found to be more intoxicating. The results revealed that the synthesized complexes were more noxious toward Gram-positive strains as compared to Gram-negative strains which may be attributed to the presence of an outer lipid membrane of lipopolysaccharides. The purpose of this article is to capture and further consider remarks I made at the 2018 University Forum for Human Resource Development (UFHRD) Conference in Newcastle, England, on gender hegemony and its impact on HRD research and practice. This article will define features of oppression and facets of gender hegemony, examine how gender hegemony is perpetuated through implicit biases and microaggressions, illustrate overcoming resistance to gender hegemony through embracing gender diversity and identity, appraise and challenge gender hegemonic research in HRD, and embolden HRD to erode gender hegemony in research and practice in ways that promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice. Pharmaceutical cocrystals are still gaining the interest of the researchers due to their potential to alter physicochemical, mechanical, and pharmacokinetic properties of active pharmaceutical ingredients without negotiating therapeutic action. The diverse new applications of cocrystals, like taste masking, reduced toxicity, patenting opportunities, commercial potential, etc. act as driving force to the rising interest of the pharmaceutical industries. Initially, cocrystals from the view of regulatory authorities, design strategies, cocrystal preparation in brief with special emphasis on scalable and solvent-free hot melt extrusion method, and practical guide to characterization have been provided. The special focus has been given to the biopharmaceutical attributes of the cocrystal. Four new diorganotin complexes of Schiff base derived from 4-(diethylamino)salicylaldehyde and L-tyrosine, R2Sn[2-O-4-Et2NC6H3CH=NCH(CH2C6H4OH-4)COO] (R = Me (1), Et (2), Cy (3), Ph (4)), were synthesized by the one-pot reaction of L-tyrosine, 4-(diethylamino)salicylaldehyde and diorganotin dichloride in the presence of triethylamine and characterized by means of elemental analysis, IR, 1H and 13C NMR spectra, and the X-ray single-crystal diffraction. X-Ray analyses of 1–4 revealed that the tin atoms of the complexes exhibit seriously distorted trigonal-bipyramidal geometries with a monodentate carboxylate oxygen atom and a phenolic oxygen atom occupying the axial positions. The intermolecular O─H⋅⋅⋅O hydrogen bonds and Sn⋅⋅⋅O weak interactions connected the molecules into one-dimensional supramolecular chain. Bioassay results indicated that 1–4 had moderate antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli and the fluorescence determinations show the complexes may be explored for potential luminescent materials. This article explores the relationship between ideology, the state and the transnational as it bears on European integration. Though typically studied in national contexts, ideologies and their clash have been Europe-wide since their emergence. As I argue, the European Union (EU) can be understood both as the continuation of these long-standing cross-border dynamics, and as the attempt to supersede them. Contemporary developments renew this dialectic. This article enquires into the lived experiences of childbirth as a site of 'fleshy becomings' that disrupts the dominantly cleaned-up approaches to organising. Theoretically, we approach childbirth as a primitively humane experience in which birthing bodies become entangled with the materiality by which they are surrounded. The empirical material of the article consists of 12 in-depth interviews with first-time mothers in Finland as well as of photographs and autoethnographic research notes taken by the two authors of this article. By empirically highlighting the interplay between flesh and materiality in the 'making' of birthing bodies, this article offers novel viewpoints on the discussion of embodied experiences as well as on the entangled relations between flesh and materiality in the field of organisation studies. It also makes an empirical contribution using a unique contextual example of 'birthing' to illustrate how vulnerable topics can be researched, offering critical viewpoints on this subject. This paper examines Morgan's theorization of images of organizations from a phenomenological perspective using the works of Nikos Kazantzakis. The paper argues that Morgan's representation of metaphors currently favours an entitative interpretation of influence and control, undermining novel processes deeply embedded within existential nuances situated in the realm of the human experience. By focusing on Kazantzakis's phenomenology, the paper proposes that a theorization of transitionality demonstrates that a content–process struggle is rooted within a permanence–temporality struggle constantly conditioned against individuals' transitoriness of existence. Relatedness, affirmation and temporality represent three interdependent process states and each exposes self-existential tensions that regulate the directionality of one's transitions. Such transitions are thought to challenge the entitative form with which organizations are portrayed in the individual. The paper shows that a conceptualization of transitionality through Kazantzakis provides a new scope for understanding the structure of movements situated in the self and for customizing the forces of permanence and temporality. We study the structural, energetic and electronic properties of the structured water chain clusters within the density functional theory. We refer the structured water chains to those water clusters that have specific geometric patterns stretched along one direction. External electric field required to keep the structures open chain, thereby preventing them to form closed structures, is applied along the length of the chain. The structures are essentially periodic with basic repeating unit consisting of the corner- or edge-sharing 4-, 5- or 6-membered ring water clusters. Our calculations underscore the possible existence of such structured water clusters in the electrostatic environments, which we simulate in its simplicity employing a dipolar, uniform and static electric field. Analysis reveals that the 5-membered ring water chain clusters, i.e. the pentamer chain clusters have the lowest average dipole moment per water molecule while the threshold field, that marks the onset of the field-induced closure of the HOMO (highest occupied molecular orbital)-LUMO (lowest unoccupied molecular orbital) energy gap, is highest, followed by that for the tetramer and hexamer chains. Background: Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) is a community-based NGO that supports people with alcohol misuse concerns to achieve and maintain abstinence. Qualitative methods are best suited to investigate individual experiences of recovery in AA, since this typically involves not only abstinence from alcohol but also the global psychological growth of the whole person. Despite this, the growing body of qualitative research exploring individual experiences in AA has yet to be collated. Objectives: The aims of this paper were to systematically search for and critically review qualitative interview studies with AA members. Methods: A systematic database and citation search identified 21 articles published between 1977 and 2014. Two independent reviewers assessed each research report and extracted data pertaining to the findings and the methodological quality of the studies. Results: Major themes across the reviewed articles included 'rock-bottom' experiences and powerlessness, and identity and change processes in AA. Findings related to the methodological quality of the papers were both general to qualitative research and more specific to AA. Conclusions/Importance: Research in this field has been characterized by a relatively uncritical discovery of AA narratives among AA members and by a lack of methodological rigor, which is likely to perpetuate its negative standing in the context of academia, and therefore in public and political discourse. The body in organisations has received considerable scholarly attention, whilst the moving body and the 'flesh' has largely been overlooked. 'Flesh' for Merleau-Ponty connects the body and the world and supposes not an immobile, but moving body. We explore flesh as a movement-related, kinaesthetic phenomenon through a movement/dance-based method and interviews with professionals from a hospitality/service organisation. We apply the notion of 'choreography' from dance studies, composed of the elements of 'writing' (graphós) and 'movement' (chorós). Our findings show that fleshly movement interaction creates invisible structures, or choreographies, that are inscribed into bodies and tacitly confine organisational interaction ('writing'). Bodies learn to relate to each other through perceptual interpenetration and kinaesthetic empathy and co-create the choreography ('moving'). Fleshly movement interaction is a submission to choreographies fulfilling the organisational need to reproduce bodies capable of carrying out certain movement imperatives, which however provides momentary openings through the use of kinaesthetic empathy. In this paper we put the concepts of reset, aprosdoketon and minor gesture to work in the context of organizational narratives. In particular we engage with two iconic characters of the genre of organizational fiction, Don Draper in the context of Mad Men TV series and the copyist, who is the main character of Bartleby, the Scrivener by Herman Melville. Through a series of textual and performative writings we explore the possibility of setting and resetting organizational narratives/genre. Moreover, we explore what happens when fictional characters from a TV series and a novel (Bartleby and Don Draper) meet us - three scholars working in an array of different fields (literary, methodology, education and organization studies) and how this meeting and interaction shapes our understandings of work, culture, and organizations. This study explores the preparation and investigation of dissolution properties of piroxicam cocrystals. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) was used to determine the capability of resorcinol (RES), methylparaben (MPB), and vanillin (VAN) to form cocrystals with piroxicam (PRX). Generation of cocrystals was attempted by liquid assisted grinding and slurry methods. Cocrystals were characterized by thermal methods, powder X-ray diffraction, and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy. Apparent solubility, intrinsic dissolution rate (IDR), and powder dissolution profile of cocrystals were compared with anhydrous piroxicam, piroxicam monohydrate (PRXMH), and previously reported piroxicam-succinic acid cocrystal. Contact angles and particle sizes of the studied solids were also measured. Based on the DSC screening results, we prepared and characterized PRX-RES and PRX-MPB cocrystals. Interestingly, the cocrystals not only failed to improve apparent solubility and IDR of PRX but also showed lower values than PRX that were attributed to induction of phase transformation of PRX to PRXMH. In contrary, cocrystals performed better than PRX in powder dissolution studies. The higher dissolution rates of cocrystals were explained by improved wettability and reduced sizes. This study has highlighted the complexity of solid state properties of cocrystals and has provided new evidence for the in-solution stability issues of cocrystals. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper explores the subtleties of exercising embodied agency within two contexts shaped by ideals and norms: ballet and fashion. Here, we focus on how dancers and models rehearsing offstage towards onstage performances negotiate their potential and limitations for achieving agency over and over. Whereas a ‘turn to embodiment’ has occurred within organization studies, less is known about how embodied agency is choreographed and practised between visible front stages and ‘hidden’ offstages, or in relation to the various human and non-human agents present in the field. The empirical material of this paper is derived from two separate ethnographic studies. By combining insights from the two contexts, we make a joint effort to explore a complex phenomenon in more detail. This paper develops our micro-level understanding of embodied agency as a relational endeavour, and offers insights into the surprisingly ‘a-mobile’ discussion of embodied practices within organization studies. In this process, animals have a specific power of attraction, like many famous novels have shown. Taking a close look at the concept of becoming-animal that is in itself embedded in these authors’ poetic and nearly prophetic language, animal writing is seen as an extension of dirty, interruptive or feminine writing. The binuclear complex of the type Cd2(HL)4 was isolated from the reaction of cadmium(II) nitrate and dithiophosphonate ligands of the type R1R2PSSH (R1 = CH3OC6H4 and R2 = (CH3)2CHCH2CH2O). The crystal structure of bis-{bis-[O-3-methylbutyl (4-methoxyphenyl) dithiophosphonato] cadmium(II)}, Cd2(HL)4, has been determined by means of single-crystal X-ray diffraction methods. The cadmium is tetra-coordinated structure and constitutes a nearly planar geometry with the atoms on the PS2 group of the ligand. The nanoparticles of the complex were also prepared by ultrasonication, and their SEM micrographs indicated identical spherical morphologies with particles sizes about 32-39 nm. The complex and ligand were additionally tested in view of their antibacterial properties. This article discusses Tocqueville’s and Mill’s views of the cultural progress of indigenous colonial societies in the context of the current debate about the Enlightenment. The analysis of their philosophical outlooks tends to support Jonathan Israel’s interpretation of the Enlightenment, yet with one important difference: while Israel emphasizes the Radical Enlightenment as the chief instigator of the movement towards modern democracy, Tocqueville’s and Mill’s views emphasize the preponderance of the Moderate Enlightenment, which, while sharing the radical advocacy for rationalism, broad education, religious toleration, the critique of despotism, and other enlightened ideals, nonetheless shunned support of full democracy or universal suffrage. Tocqueville’s and Mill’s Eurocentric views regarding the possible ameliorative influence of colonialism emphasize how the ideals of the Moderate Enlightenment had an overriding effect on the emergence of nineteenth-century liberalism. A tetracarboxamide-based macrocycle has shown a general aptitude for binding both anions and metal cations. Crystallographic studies indicate that in several instances quite similar structures are obtained. The macrocycle can be readily synthesised by a one-step condensation. Smaller oxoanions (sulfate, oxalate, and nitrite) bind within a folded macrocyclic cleft. Larger oxoanions and oxometallates (dihydrogen phosphate, dichromate, and perrhenate) dangle below the folded macrocycle. Smaller divalent metal ions (nickel(II) and copper(II)) form binuclear complexes with the metal ions bound within the folded macrocycle. A one-dimensional coordination polymer of CdII based on pyrazine (pz) and 3-nitrophthalic acid (3-nphaH2), namely poly[[diaqua bis(3-nitro-2-carboxylato-1-carboxylic acid)(µ2-pyrazine) cadmium(II)]dihydrate], {[Cd(3-nphaH)2(pz)(H2O)2]. 2H2O}n, was prepared and characterized. The asymmetric unit consists of one CdII center, two (3-nphaH)- anions, two halves of two crystallographically distinct pz ligands, two coordinated and two uncoordinated water molecules. The CdII cation is surrounded by four oxygen atoms from two (3-nphaH)- and two water molecules as well as two nitrogen atoms from two pz ligands in distorted octahedral geometry. Complicated hydrogen bonding network accompanied with N-O···π and C-O···π stacking interactions leads to formation of a 3D supramolecular network. Commonly, this kind of C-O-π and N-O···π interaction is detected in electron-rich CO/NO groups of (3-nphaH)- ligand and electron-deficient π-system of pyrazine. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A new molecular solid [3BrBzTPP]2[Cu(mnt)2](1) (mnt2- D maleonitriledithiolate; [3BrBzTPP]+ D1-(3'-bromobenzyl)triphenylphosphonium) was synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, optical spectra, and thermal and X-ray crystallographic analyses. It was crystallized in the monoclinic space group P21/n, and the asymmetric unit cell contained half a [Cu(mnt)2]2- anion and one independent [3BrBzTPP]C cation. The anions and cations in 1 were linked by electrostatic interactions, C-H...S hydrogen bonds, and short N...Br interactions, and formed an alternating column of anions and cations in a ¢¢¢AA-CC-AA-CC¢¢¢ sequence. The thermal analysis revealed that 1 was stable up to 218°C. Magnetic measurements disclosed that 1 was a paramagnetic system with a very weak ferromagnetic coupling interaction in the temperature range of 2.0-300 K. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article examines recent advances in organizational studies that disputed the dominance of conventional-positivist paradigms by addressing everyday life in organizations through the lens of aesthetic principles. First, I discuss developments in theory and methods, focusing on the “strong” version of Organizational Aesthetics that defends new conceptions about the nature of organizations and experiences of organizational life. Then, I illustrate this new account using two relevant studies. My research finds that the aesthetic account of organizations provides concepts and modes of analysis able to better respond to current conceptual and practical challenges both in organizational research and arts management. The aim of the article is to analyse and comprehend the interplay of institutional logics in the realisation of Stockholm's House of Culture, Kulturhuset, hereby beginning to answer the question of what role cultural logics play in cultural development projects. Based on an in-depth case study of the process leading up to the creation of Kulturhuset, the article explores the interplay of a politico-bureaucratic logic and a cultural–professional logic governing the evolution of the project. Following a Scandinavian tradition of interpretative studies of complex development projects, the making of Kulturhuset is framed as an extraordinary project involving a complicated development process. The process dynamics are explored and analysed through the lens of institutional complexity. The article's main contribution lies in its highlighting the interplay of – and nuancing the relation between – institutional logics. The chemical preparation, spectroscopic characterization, and crystal structures of two new ion-pair complexes, [4NO2BzIQl]2[Ni(mnt)2](1) and [4NO2BzIQl]2[Ni(i-mnt)2] (2) ([4NO2BzIQl]+ = 4-nitrobenzyl isoquinolinium, mnt2− = maleonitriledithiolate and i-mnt2− = iso-maleonitriledithiolate), have been reported. Both 1 and 2 crystallize in the triclinic system in space group P-1. The cations of 1 stack into a 1D alternating column through C–H···π, π···π and p···π interactions, while the [4NO2BzIQl]+ cations (C) and [Ni(i-mnt)2]2− anions (A) of 2 stack into another 1D alternative column with a A–CC–A–CC–A sequence. Weak N···Ni, C–H···Ni, C–H···N, C–H···S, and p···π interactions observed in 1 and 2 consolidate a 3D network structure. Thermal analysis reveals that 1 and 2 are stable up to 211°C and 208°C, respectively, and the final decomposition product of two complexes is nickel oxide. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
