Students exposed to conflict have increased risks of perpetrating school violence. For young people who experience war in Philippine's Mindanao, overcoming violence can be particularly challenging as perpetrating this behaviour has, over time, become embedded in their postcolonial culture. These students are most affected by conflict and vulnerable to competing political entities; therefore, in this study, they are identified as the subalterned. Data from a phenomenological research that focus on the lived experiences of the subalterned students and schools' impact on their identity formation were used to investigate ways to counter the production of a violent culture. In-depth interviews and focus group discussions with art-based activity are used to gather the experiences of current students from six schools and former students in three conflict-affected regions of the country. Using postcolonial theory, this study highlights that student empowerment through identity formation and elements that were previously used to propagate violence and extremism can be effectively harnessed to foster a nonviolent culture in schools. The study concludes by showing that the identified factors that aided participants to overcome violent tendencies must incorporate an active notion of advocating a decolonial peacebuilding program in schools that considers the subaltern's identities and culture. We report here in silico repurposing studies on 52 new pyridazinone-based small-molecules through inverse virtual screening (iVS) methodologies. These analogues were originally designed as formyl peptide receptor (FPR) ligands. As it is sometimes the case in drug discovery programmes, subsequent biological screening demonstrated the inefficacy of the molecules in binding FPRs, failing in the identification of new hits. Through a focussed drug-repurposing approach we have defined a variety of potential targets that are suitable to interact with this library of pyridazinone-based analogues. A two-step approach has been conducted for computational analysis. Specifically, the molecules were initially processed through a pharmacophore-based screening. Secondly, the resulting features of binding were investigated by docking studies and following molecular dynamic simulations, in order to univocally confirm "pyridazinone-based ligand-target protein" interactions. Our findings propose aspartate aminotransferase as the most favourable repurposed target for this small-molecule series, worth of additional medicinal chemistry investigations in the field. Studies show that smokers have a lower work performance due to time spent smoking, increased fatigue perception and are more absent from work due to smoking-related diseases. The workplace could represent an important location to promote smoking cessation. This study is a multi-center, controlled trial for smoking cessation counseling at the participants' workplace, where 656 randomized participants received four sessions of group motivational interviewing or four sessions of very brief advice and were followed up for 52 weeks. The Continuous Quit Rate (CQR) was higher for the smoking cessation counseling group than for the very brief advice group during weeks 9 to 12 (17.5% vs. 3.6%) weeks 9 to 24 (13.4% vs. 3.4%) and weeks 9 to 52 (10.3% vs. 3.1%). This study demonstrated that motivational interviewing is an efficacious smoking cessation approach for smokers at their workplace. Young people living in conflict-ridden areas in the southern part of the Philippines, Mindanao, experience hostility from communities motivated by religious ideologies and political beliefs. With this premise, this study will uncover emerging themes on the way students form their views towards people who have a different faith based on three distinct religious cultures of six schools situated in conflict-ridden areas in Mindanao. Guided by the precepts of phenomenology, this study utilized focused-group discussion with art-based activities and in-depth interviews to show the three dominant religious cultures in schools have distinct influences on their students' perspectives of others. This study reports the application of inverse virtual screening (iVS) methodologies to identify cellular proteins as suitable targets for a library of heterocyclic small-molecules, with potential pharmacological implications. Standard synthetic procedures allow facile generation of these ligands showing a high degree of core scaffold diversity. Specifically, we have computationally investigated the binding efficacy of the new series for target proteins which are involved in cancer pathogenesis. As a result, nine macromolecules demonstrated efficient binding interactions for the molecular dataset, in comparison to the co-crystallised ligand for each target. Moreover, the iVS analysis led us to confirm that 27 analogues have high affinity for one or more examined cellular proteins. The additional evaluation of ADME and drug score for selected hits also highlights their capability as drug candidates, demonstrating valuable leads for further structure optimisation and biological studies. Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate of the effect of distilled water and saline ultrasonic nebulization on the inflammatory and oxidative stress responses and on the lower airway architecture.Materials and Methods: Twenty-one male Fischer rats were distributed into 3 groups of 7 animals each: a control group (CG), exposed to ambient air; a saline group (SG), exposed to 0.9% sodium chloride (NaCl); and a group exposed to distilled water (DWG). The exposure was carried out in a box attached to an ultrasonic inhaler, occurring for 20 min, 3 times a day for 6 months. At 24h after the last exposure, the animals were euthanized. The bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) and lungs were collected for study.Results: There was an increase of inflammatory cells in the pulmonary tissue BALF in the DWG compared with the CG. The DWG showed an increase of inflammatory cells compared with the SG and CG. The DWG and SG had higher NADPH oxidase activity than the CG. The volume density (Vv) of the alveolar septum was higher in the DWG than in the SG and CG, and the DWG also had a higher Vvof collagen fibers than the other 2 groups. The DWG presented elevated content of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances in lung homogenates relative to the SG and CG.Conclusions: The ultrasonic nebulization of distilled water increased the influx of inflammatory cells and oxidative damage, and promoted changes in the lung architecture.
