Today, expectations from textile products have increased and the comfort features of clothes have gained more importance, especially for leisure and sports clothes. Therefore, the liquid moisture transmission of clothes is quite important, which has a significant effect on the body's ability to cool itself and the user's feeling cold after sweating. A new test instrument "3D-MMD" (3 Dimension Moisture Mapping Device), that measures the liquid moisture transmission feature of the fabrics in multidirection is introduced in this paper. The developed system includes two thermal cameras that allow measurement below and above of the sample. When the test liquid is dropped on the sample, the heat transfer occurs and due to the heat transfer during the transmission of moisture, the surface temperature of wetted and non-wetted parts of the fabric changes. This change is detected in the form of infrared data with the help of thermal cameras and converted into an electronic image. The wet area can be easily created by processing the images of the color visuals coming instantly from the thermal camera. This study investigated the use of flax and hemp fibers in denim fabrics in terms of thermo-physiological comfort and handle-related properties. Cotton/flax and cotton/hemp blended fabrics with 2/1 twill and 3/1 twill weaves were selected and evaluated compared to pure cotton fabric. Besides, the effect of rinsing was examined. The findings revealed that the use of flax and hemp fibers improved the thermo-physiological and handle-related comfort properties of denim fabrics. Higher air permeability and water absorbency along with quick-drying behavior could be achieved in flax and hemp blended fabrics compared to pure cotton fabric. Handle-related comfort properties of flax and hemp blended fabrics indicated soft touch. Although the extension and formability values of the blended fabrics were low, they were at an acceptable level and were improved after the rinsing process. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Comfort is an aspect and is considered as one of the important characteristics of clothing. Generally, the comfort properties can be distinguished into three categories, viz., thermo-physiological comfort, sensorial comfort, and psychological comfort. Thermo-physiological comfort of a fabric is determined by the ability of the fabric to transmit heat, air, and moisture from the skin to the atmosphere. Fabric made of synthetic fibers has convincing comfort properties when compared with the fabrics made of natural fibers like cotton, silk, wool, etc. When natural fibers are compared with synthetic fibers, synthetic fibers are hydrophobic in nature and provides less comfort to the wearer. Hence, in this research work, an attempt has been made to study the thermo-physiological comfort properties of herbal finished woven fabrics made from synthetic fibers coated with neem and bermudagrass. Herbal finishes were applied on the woven fabrics made from 100% polyester and blends of 50:50 polyester, acrylic fibers. These finished fabrics were tested and analyzed for durability and essential thermo-physiological comfort properties. Based on the test results and analysis it was found that significant improvements in the moisture-related properties and moderate decrease in the thermal conductivity of the synthetic fabrics with neem and bermudagrass herbal finish. Little is known about how people's routine body movements when they are at work affect the perceived fit and comfort of their uniform/workwear. This knowledge gap was addressed in this study through carefully planned interviews. First, known theories from previous studies were analysed to establish a theoretical framework. Next, primary data and new information were collected through semi-structured interviews with fifteen subjects from eight industries to refine the investigation. Through these interviews, data were collected in relation to the subjects' (1) jobs; (2) routine body movements in the workplace; and (3) evaluation of the fit and movement comfort of their uniforms. Both deductive and inductive approaches were used to process the collected data so as to understand the wearers' needs for, and perceptions of, their uniform fit and movement comfort in their workplaces. Many researches have been carried out to analyze the wicking behavior of the knitted fabric based on different principles. In this study, an investigation on wicking behavior of knitted fabrics under different deformation condition is attempted. An instrument has been designed and developed to measure the wicking rate of the fabric based on the principle of image processing technique under dynamic states with respect to time by simulating different movements. This instrument has been aimed to quantify the rate of wicking under different deformations in required time intervals and also the pattern of wicking area on both sides of fabric simultaneously. The statistical result shows that wicking in fabric under dynamic condition has been increased significantly on the knitted fabrics than the static condition. The comparative study of wicking trend at the front and back has been carried out and shows that the area of wicking is higher in front than back side of the fabric at any given period of time. The result shows that wicking in fabric under dynamic condition has been increased significantly on all the knitted fabric. The developed novel instrument could be utilized to carry out the study of the wicking behavior of any kind of fabrics matching to the real situation with higher accuracy and precision. Drying properties of textiles in summer and/or after any kind of physical activity resulted in sweating is of great importance for garments with high clothing comfort. This study analyzes the drying behavior of knitted fabrics produced from various fibers at different ambient air conditions. Drying kinetics and modeling of fabrics dried in standard environmental conditions were investigated in the first part. Polyester and lyocell fabrics were found to be the fastest drying samples. A two-stage modeling that is a combination of linear approach and thin-layer equations was used, and the best fitted equation was found to be the logarithmic one. The two-stage model was also proved to predict the drying rate. The second part included the effects of ambient humidity on drying times and rates. Drying time of polyester and polyester blended fabrics was affected by the increase in the humidity to a great extent. Furthermore, a quadratic function was found to be highly correlated with the computed data, so it was proposed to define the drying behavior by ambient air humidity and drying time. This study was conducted to investigate comfort and microbial protection performances of two reusable and two disposable surgical gowns by subjective wear trials conducted on eight healthy Dentistry faculty students under environmental conditions suitable for a surgical operation. Protection performances of the gowns were tested by a modified bacterial resistance test. Physiological and psychological data were obtained during wear trials. All objective and subjective results were evaluated in the light of standard physical, mechanical, permeability, and resistance (thermal and water vapor) characteristics of the fabrics. According to the results, thermal comfort performance of the woven gown produced from microfiber polyester was the best according to subjective wear trial and microbial resistance test results. Disposable nonwoven gowns had lower comfort performances despite their higher permeability and lower resistance values. Moreover, chest skin temperature, arm microclimate temperature, and arm relative humidity are the physiological parameters significantly correlated with subjective comfort evaluation results. The linen is a leading comfortable fabric, but how can we evaluate this comfort? The comfort is a multicriteria phenomenon that requires the simultaneous satisfaction of several criteria. In this study, we try to represent objectively the mechanical comfort components to simulate the consumer comfort perception. This modeling method permits to obtain mechanical comfort indexes for linen fabric that can be interpreted like an indication to foresee if the wished comfort is satisfied or not. Natural fibres including linen and hemp are human friendly in every way. They guarantee high comfort as well as environment protection. Testing of clothes on the human organism is a necessity. New and more sophisticated technologies are being introduced in the textile industry that make production processes more efficient, more productive, allow for introduction of new assortment of textile products and new fibers, improvement of properties of clothes. However, chasing after technological novelties, one cannot forget about the human, because it is a human who is a recipient of the final product. No product should cause a negative effect on human organisms. Each new technology using new modifying chemicals should be evaluated for the safety in direct contact with human skin. The influence of clothes, which were covering transiently the human forearm muscles, on activity of motor units of these muscles was investigated at the INF. The results of electromiographical studies of two groups of people wearing the natural and synthetic apparel shown that temporary covering of tested forearm muscles with synthetic clothes changes the pattern of motor unit activity. The observed fluctuations are the reason of desynchronization in muscle motor units that may lead to higher tendency to fatigue when wearing synthetic garments. Another research concerned influence of different kinds of wear(in given conditions, during the rest or exercise)to the oxidative stress and how the organism defense mechanism change. One of the ways to test the ability of the organism to defense itself against the reactive oxygen species is to determine so called total antioxidant index status(TAS). This parameter informs about total ability of tissues to neutralize exactly determined amount of reactive oxygen species. Due to considerable amounts of man-made fibers in wear and bedding, there are more and more allergies observed among people who use different textile products based on man-made fibers. According to the most recent studies conducted at the Institute of Natural Fibres and Nara Woman's University, Japan, it was found that man-made and natural fibers in clothes have dramatically different physiological effect on human body. This physiological influence is connected with different effect on the level ofα-globulin and histamine produced inhuman body in different conditions created by clothes made of different fiber composition.
