This paper aims to analyze the trading mechanism of China pilot carbon emission trading market and figure out whether the current market price is rational and valid. By applying directional distance function and stochastic frontier analysis method, we estimated the CO2 marginal abatement cost of 92 coal-fueled generators belonging to 27 power plants located in Shanghai which is one of the pilot carbon emission trading market cities in China. The result indicates that the market price will greatly affect the trading activities within carbon emission trading market. We conclude that the current market price is not rational for coal-fueled power industry which is high-carbon and high CO2 MAC industry. When the exchange of nationwide carbon trading market formally start, policymakers should impose carbon tax or carbon emission quota to adjust the market price and stimulate the CO2 emission reduction willingness of coal-fueled power plants. This study aims to explore the changes in the pure GHG emission performance of 11 Korean manufacturing industries to determine whether the green policy was effective in terms of its impact on green productivity. For this purpose, the latest non-radial metafrontier Malmquist CO2 emission performance index (NMMCPI) was used. By using this methodology, technological heterogeneities and slack variables could be incorporated into the previous Malmquist CO2 emission performance index (MCPI). The NMMCPI can be derived by solving several non-radial data envelopment analysis (DEA) models. The NMMCPI is decomposed into three indices; an efficiency change (EC) index, a best-practice gap change (BPC) index, and a technology gap change (TGC) index. By fixing the non-energy inputs, the partial-factor GHG emission performance was measured. Based on the proposed indices, 11 Korean manufacturing industries were analyzed for the period 2011-2016. Empirical results showed an average decrease of 1.5% in the GHG emission performance; the results also revealed variations among industries in EC, BPC and TGC. In addition, it was found that the productivity of each industry is driven mainly by a different factor. This empirical study investigates the driving factors in the adoption of corporate social responsibility (CSR) practices by Chinese firms. Following the stakeholder theory, the hypothesis of this study is that stakeholder pressures positively impact Chinese firms’ adoption of CSR practices. Studies on the relationship between stakeholder pressure and CSR practices have been inconclusive. In order to identify the missing links amid those inconclusive results, this study examines the mediating role of CSR-oriented organizational culture in the relationship between stakeholder pressure and the adoption of CSR practices. The empirical findings provide strong evidence that a CSR-oriented organizational culture has a fully mediating role on the relationship between stakeholder pressure and the adoption of CSR practices. These results suggest that Chinese companies should promote a well-established CSR-oriented culture within a CSR paradigm shift more effectively and thus gain a sustainable competitive advantage over their competitors. Although sustainability recently became a key factor in social science, little progress has been made toward improving the measurement of sustainability performance. This paper proposes composite corporate sustainability performance indicators using a meta-frontier generalized directional distance function. This advanced approach can measure the efficiency of corporate social responsibility activities by benchmarking, while simultaneously considering industrial heterogeneities, using the meta-frontier approach. First, we propose the concept of a meta-frontier generalized directional distance function. Second, several standardized composite indicators related to corporate sustainability performance are developed. The meta-frontier directional distance function is estimated by solving a series of data envelopment analysis models. Chinese state-owned listed enterprises are then empirically examined using the proposed model. We find significant group heterogeneities in terms of corporate sustainability performance. Industrial production can produce large amounts of harmful by-products, causing serious pollution and ecological risk. In addition, if government regulations are subjected into the industries, huge cost risk will be faced. This article adopts a two-stage slack-based undesirable-output data envelope analysis (DEA) model to measure the eco-efficiency of China. In the first stage, we analyze the eco-efficiency of each province of China, and in the second stage, we employed a truncated bootstrap method to understand the determinants of eco-efficiency. The results indicate that whereas the eco-efficiency of the eastern region was the highest, that of the western region was the lowest. The western region's economy lagged behind that of other regions, and its environment suffered from heavy pollution. It was found that the level of industrialization did not contribute to eco-efficiency. However, promotion of the service industry, investment for the environment, and regional innovation have positive effects on eco-efficiency. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: This paper proposes two environmental energy efficiency indices, the pure energy efficiency and scale efficiency based on the slacks-based measure of efficiency in data envelopment analysis (SBM-DEA). These two indices are used to measure energy efficiency by incorporating three undesirable outputs—carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, and Chemical Oxygen Demand—in China's regional economies between 2001 and 2010. The empirical results show most provinces were not energy efficient, due primarily to pure energy inefficiency. There exists a regional unbalance in terms of the environmental energy efficiency. Results support the Porter hypothesis, which indicates that stricter environmental regulations can improve efficiency and encourage innovation. In recent years, the concept of Regional Innovation Systems (RIS) has evolved into a widely used analytical framework for sustainable economic development. But in reality, the RIS does not seem to be workable due to the lack of governance. To reduce this operational risk, the emphasis on the structure as well as network management of the system should be merged into a more market-oriented as well as performance-oriented governance. In Korea, there are seven RISs among 14 regions nationwide. Empirically, they are not very sustainable.
