Adolescence represents a crucial period for sexual and romantic relationship development, and acquisition of skills and confidence essential for effective sexual consent communication. However, various barriers may interfere with adolescents' belief in their ability (i.e., their self-efficacy) to negotiate consent in practice. This study aimed to investigate the state of adolescents' self-efficacy to ask for consent and explore the influence of romantic relationship communication (a construct comprised of three characteristics: relationship assertiveness skills, positive conflict resolution, and communication awkwardness). Participants were 411 adolescents who had current or past relationships (61% girls, 77% Latine, 79% heterosexual). Participants generally reported above-average levels of self-efficacy to ask for consent (M = 4.14 out of 7, SD = 1.24), with LGBQ+ adolescents exhibiting statistically significantly higher levels of self-efficacy compared to heterosexual adolescents (M = 4.51 vs. 4.09, t = -2.66, p =.008). Self-efficacy to ask for consent was positively individually related to positive conflict resolution and relationship assertiveness skills, and negatively related to communication awkwardness (all ps <.001). In a path model, romantic relationship communication displayed a statistically significant association with adolescents' self-efficacy to ask for consent, with high positive conflict resolution, low communication awkwardness, and high relationship assertiveness skills being associated with higher self-efficacy to ask for consent. Findings suggest improving adolescents' romantic communication skills may enhance their self-efficacy to ask for consent, and contribute to increased rates of sexual consent communication. Introduction: Motor planning is important for daily functioning. Deficits in motor planning can result in slow, inefficient, and clumsy motor behavior and are linked to disruptions in performance of activities of daily living in children with cerebral palsy (CP). However, the evidence in CP is primarily based on cross-sectional data. Method: Data are presented on the development of motor planning in children with CP using a longitudinal design with three measurement occasions, each separated by 1 year. Twenty-two children with CP (9 boys, 13 girls; age in years;months, M = 7;1, SD = 1;2) and 22 age-matched controls (10 boys, 12 girls, M  = 7;1, SD = 1;3) participated. Children performed a bar transport task in which some conditions (“critical angles”) required participants to sacrifice initial posture comfort in order to achieve end-state comfort. Performance on critical trials was analyzed using linear growth curve modeling. Results: In general, children with CP showed poor end-state planning for critical angles. Importantly, unlike in controls, motor planning ability did not improve across the three measurement occasions in children with CP. Conclusion: These longitudinal results show that motor planning issues in CP do not resolve with development over childhood. Strategies to enhance motor planning are suggested for intervention. Completing a representational momentum (RM) task, participants viewed animations of a human cartoon or a robot figure with three levels of awkwardness in the walk and indicated if the final posture was identical to the final frame of the animation. Animations were shown forward and backward, and the level of awkwardness influenced the extent of RM (Experiment 1:N = 30). Positive distortions decreased with increased awkwardness for forward actions. Negative distortions for the backward animations meant either participants were falling behind the depicted action, or that continuing familiar actions forward is a stronger bias than continuing presented (backward) actions. Following a single posture (Experiment 2:N = 19), positive distortions were observed, but no pattern regarding awkwardness. Trial by Battle, the first play to be performed at the Royal Coburg Theatre, is an early example of rapid theatrical response to a true crime story. This research investigated the subjective meanings given to well-being by young people. It involved 300 participants ages 16 to 21 years, using Landfield's pyramid procedure. Analysis highlighted seven different “styles” of well-being perception, demonstrating that styles rely on the personal meaning attributions one gives to events and experiences. The results are used to offer suggestions for ameliorating the awkwardness of youth. However, these sorts of interventions should be measured against the meanings young people freely convey. We present an individual, “JD”, a 69-year-old Caucasian, married female with symptoms that included progressive right arm stiffness, tremor, and clumsiness; increasing gait and balance disturbance; increased fatigue and emotionality. Neuropsychological evaluation revealed compromised semantics and language-associated functions; impaired visual constructional ability; markedly reduced cognitive and visuomotor processing speed; low average to average working memory; variable praxis performance; variable abstract reasoning, problem solving, and set shifting; and lower overall intellectual functioning compared to premorbid estimates. Overall, her neuropsychological profile indicated marked compromise of the frontal and left parietal regions. The data coupled with her symptom pattern and demographics partially fit corticobasal degeneration diagnostic criteria. Neuroimaging, however, performed 2 years prior to the assessment and again during the current workup revealed an enlarging arachnoid cyst compressing the left parietal and posterior frontal lobe and a small portion of the right medial frontal-parietal region. We discuss the neuroanatomical substrates involved in her cognitive presentation and how two very distinct pathological processes (corticobasal degeneration, arachnoid cyst) can result in two similar symptom presentations. This study employed a dialogical narrative phenomenology to gather and analyze 16 narratives of socially awkward situations. These analyses revealed a characteristic pattern for socially awkward situations. The moment of awkwardness was characterized by a sense of moral or social transgression that magnified and intensified social experience and focused perceptions on social behaviors. Those social behaviors expressed awkwardness through anxious, hesitant, disjointed, or avoidant actions. Participants felt an imperative to transform the awkward situation and did so either by avoiding it or by directly addressing it and attempting to resolve it. Avoidant responses were associated with a magnification and extension of the effects of social awkwardness while direct responses were associated with a re-established sense of social harmony. The author interprets these findings to suggest that feeling and expressing social awkwardness can be meaningful and productive elements of social relationships. Feelings of awkwardness focus attention and intention on social relationships; when these feelings are expressed, others can take them up and become invested in the social transformation they engender. The physiologies and mass-circulation literature of the July Monarchy launched the emergence of the flâneur in the French popular imaginary, and famously celebrated his acute, flexible, and discerning gaze. Yet, these texts sometimes represent imperilled flâneurs who inadvertently collide with the city; the cause of these accidents lies in their hyperopia and subsequent failure to perceive the closest and most pedestrian details of the Parisian street. This farsightedness itself results from distraction in the French senses of the term: as both absentmindedness (la distraction) and social entertainment (les distractions), the flâneur's distraction belongs to him as much as to Paris itself. In this article, I investigate some of the artifacts that were involved in the reconstruction of a so-called common cultural heritage site, a collaboration between the University of Ghana and the National Museum of Denmark. The ambition is to explore how these locally used artifacts evoked universal aspirations and thereby to discuss how the emergence of global heritage through different collaborative practices may be studied. Inspired by the work of Anna Tsing, I discuss the analytical possibilities of studying global heritage as 'zones of awkward engagements'. I argue that instead of analyzing cultural heritage as a series of compromises, it is fruitful, at least analytically, to examine the awkwardness within the object of study-the creation of a cultural heritage site-as a continuous organization of parts and wholes, artifacts and words, the local and the global, in which a variety of stakeholders offer different universal aspirations. The process by which Arsenal Football Club found the site for its new stadium started off quite elegantly - just the market actor (Arsenal) and the hierarchical actor (Islington Council) - but was soon clumsified by the entry of an egalitarian actor (the Highbury Community Association). The result was a solution, totally overlooked in the early stages, that gave each of these contending actors more of what it wanted (and less of what it did not want) than it would have got if it had somehow established hegemony and “gone it alone.” This “clumsy solution” came about more or less by accident, and it stands in marked contrast to the sort of outcomes that we usually get, especially in relation to policy issues that have a high scientific input: environment and development in the Himalayan region, for instance. All of which raises the question: “How can we get clumsy solutions by design.” One important part of the answer is: “By doing pretty well the exact opposite of what policy orthodoxy says we should do.” Rather than a single, agreed definition of the problem, we need to move towards noisy and argumentative institutional arrangements in which all three voices (each with its distinctive definition of the problem - a definition, moreover, that cannot be reconciled with the other two) are (a) able to make themselves heard and (b) are then responsive to one another. Indeed, policy subsystems can be plotted on a 3×3 matrix in terms of accessibility and responsiveness, with deliberative quality increasing markedly as we move from (1,1: closed hegemony) to (3,3: clumsy institution). Any move that is uphill on this three-dimensional landscape is a move in the right direction (if we value deliberative quality and democratization, that is); any move that is downhill should be avoided like the plague. Individuals who sustain a cerebrovascular accident (CVA) in the dominant (typically left) hemisphere, are at increased risk of developing motor skill deficits due to motor-sensory impairments, as well as cognitive impairments (e.g., apraxia). Clumsiness is a central component affecting motor skills in individuals with a left hemisphere CVA (LCVA). The term “clumsiness” however, has not been adequately operationalised in the apraxia literature in clinical terms, thereby making diagnosis difficult and its contribution to apraxic disorders uncertain. Accordingly, in this study “clumsiness” was explicitly defined by establishing a set of four criteria. The non-dominant (left) hand movements of three groups of participants were examined: 10 individuals with limb-apraxia (APX); 8 individuals without limb apraxia who had sustained a LCVA (NAPX); and 19 healthy individuals without a history of brain impairment (NBD). Performance was examined on four sets of motor tasks, including a conventional praxis test, basic perceptual-motor co-ordination and fine movement tasks, and a naturalistic actions test. A striking finding that emerged was that clumsy errors occurred frequently in all groups, including the NBD group, particularly on the praxis and fine motor tasks. In terms of quantity of clumsy errors emitted, the APX group made significantly more clumsy gestures across all four tasks in comparison to the NBD group. No differences emerged between the two clinical groups, however, in terms of total clumsy gestures emitted on the naturalistic action tasks, or the type of clumsy errors emitted on the fine motor tasks. Thus, frequency and types of clumsy gestures were partly determined by task demands. These results highlight the need to consider the contribution of clumsy gestures in limb functioning following hemispheric brain damage. In broad terms, these findings emphasise the importance of adopting more detailed analyses of movement errors in apraxia and assessments of cognitive-based motor functioning following brain impairment. This study was designed to identify characteristics of social maturity and self-perception in children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and to elucidate associated factors, including motor coordination. The subjects were 15 children (14 boys and 1 girl, in elementary school grades 3 to 6). Their characteristics were assessed with the Movement Assessment Battery for Children (M-ABC), the Japanese version of the Social Maturity Scale-R (S-M scale), and Hatter's Self Perception Profile for Children (SPPC). The results of the study suggested that most of the subjects had some degree of motor problem and delay of social maturity. They also suggested an association between social maturity and static-dynamic balance, which was one of the indices of motor coordination. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We report a case of a 21-year-old woman presenting with quadriplegia which was initially diagnosed with an epidural abscess in view of her MR scan and raised inflammatory marker levels. Histology revealed an epidural extra-osseous Ewing's sarcoma (EES). Epidural location of EES is a very rare condition which can be very challenging to diagnose.
