In this paper I plan to illuminate the importance of three presences in The Professor that could be said to embody the Word of God in the protagonist's, William Crimsworth's, life. These are his inscrutable friend Mr Hunsden, who has more the air of a biblical prophet than a Yorkshire manufacturer; William's Conscience - very specifically Conscience with a capital 'C' whose voice has strong biblical echoes; and William's dreams, with clear messages and images that are saturated with biblical imagery. The 'Lady Missionary' is quite a favourite topic for exploring both the theological concern of 'Women's work for Religious Cause' as well as the more feminist approach of 'Women's work for Women's Cause'. And yet, there is not much work done when it comes to the literary representation of this enterprising woman of the colonial era despite the fact that she is not absent in literature. Missionary women play central or less significant side-roles in many works of colonial literature; Somerset Maugham's The Painted Veil, Paul Scott's The Jewel in the Crown, Rumer Godden's Black Narcissus are only a few famous examples to cite at random. Research on how the contemporaneous secular white ladies see and show these religious (often dubbed 'dogmatic') 'mish' women is even sparser. Taking this stance lays bare not only the complex heterogeneity of white females out in the colonies and of the 'white woman's burden', but also the intra-racial tensions that are otherwise usually overlooked or deliberately hooded over. The Open Letter written by 138 major representatives of Islam to the leaders of the Christian churches, on 13 October 2007, came as something of a surprise. Perhaps more surprisingly, in 1283, the Catalan theologian, Ramon Llull, wrote imaginatively of exactly such a letter in one of his novels, thus demonstrating that the interfaith question is not just a problem of our modern times, which became acute only on September 11. On the contrary, the churches have always been conscious of this interfaith context. Yet methods of tackling the problem have differed widely down the centuries and among Christian traditions. The solution proposed by Ramon Llull and analysed in this article starts from the common acceptance of the attributes of God in all three monotheistic religions. This article examines a new and growing movement in Korean Christianity: making hand-written copies of the Bible. Over the last ten years, the practice of copying the Bible has become increasingly popular among ordinary Christians beyond the boundaries of denomination, age, gender, and profession. It is reported that, by December 2006, there were over 300,000 participants. The Centre for the Bible-Copying Movement, established in 1991, aims at increasing this figure to one million by 2010. In an attempt to uncover the rationale which motivates the practice of copying the Bible, this article situates this movement within the distinctive Korean cultural context of the continuing interplay between Confucianism and Christianity. It is based on the fact that Korea, once the most Confucianised state in East Asia, has become one of the most dynamic Christian countries in the world during the last century. This article argues that the movement of copying the Bible represents a harmonious combination of Christian and Confucian spiritualities: Christian piety for embodying the Word of God and Confucian devotion to self-cultivation through learning. Evangelical Protestant pilgrims come to the Holy Land to be able to feel God's presence in the Land by feeling the presence of Christ in themselves. Their understanding of the Land as the living Word of God, their capacity for embodied spiritual experience, and their rejection of traditional Christian rites and places of worship - together with the theatrical potential of the Bible - open the Evangelical Protestant pilgrims to ritual experimentation in alternative places. I use the case of an organized pilgrimage group from the American Midwest to discuss how the pastor and the tour guide, each from their different but overlapping perspectives, create a context in which Jesus is encouraged to enter the pilgrims through the performance of the biblical battle between David and Goliath in a valley southwest of Jerusalem. This paper explores the relationship between Incarnation and extraterrestrial life in view of the question: can extraterrestrials be saved? The Franciscan theology of Bonaventure and Scotus is used to explore "exoChristology" by examining the Incarnation as a theological rather than anthropological event. The primacy of Christ, held by Franciscan theologians, provides an integral relationship between Christ and creation. From this relationship, it is shown that Incarnation takes place wherever there is intelligible life. It is suggested that all possible worlds, created through the Word of God, bear a spiritual potency within them and are open to spiritual transformation. The divine Word is incarnate in every created order through the appropriate form of intelligible life within that order and completes that order through love. This essay focuses on the mortal redefinition of linguistic signs in Eden. The choices of Adam and Eve to engage with the words of eternal life generate the existence of Eden. A relationship to the self through language hence predicates the dialogic dependence of Adam and Eve upon God. The Creator relates directly to His creation by giving Adam and Eve the gift of commending His signs to Him. Linguistic signification allows sharing God's authorship of creation by an active dialogue with Him.

An anonymous Vita written in the years immediately following Joachim of Fiore's death presents him as an alter-Jeremiah or Ezekiel, a prophet of the exile. His life is described as a transmigration from the Holy Land, where he received his first revelation, to the monastery he founded in Fiore, or as a journey from exile to redemption. Calabria becomes the new Holy Land, blessed by the Holy Spirit. In contrast, the thirteenth-century Kabbalist Abraham Abulafia depicts Sicily as the place where prophecy will be renewed and the Messiah revealed. He refers to himself as Zachariah, the prophet of redemption, particularly in work in which his connection with Christians is emphasized. This article suggests that Abulafia adapted the Joachite teachings which he would have encountered in Sicily and southern Italy to a polemical dialogue with his Christian counterparts in an attempt to prove to them that he was the one who would bring the redemption and unification of Jews and Christians in a spiritual understanding of the divine Name.
