Purpose: Many factors contribute to persisting post-concussion symptoms (PPCSs), necessitating multi-modal treatment. Quantitative investigations have shown the potential of interdisciplinary intervention to reduce the burden of PPCSs and facilitate return to activities. There are often varied responses to intervention, warranting further investigation of potential factors underlying treatment response. This study aimed to explore participant experiences of i-RECOveR, an interdisciplinary intervention for PPCSs and its impact on symptoms, daily function, and concussion beliefs. Materials and Method: Semi-structured interviews were conducted 1-month post-treatment via videoconferencing with 13 individuals (61% female) with mild traumatic brain injury (Mage=39.77 years, SD = 16.27) who participated in i-RECOveR. Interview transcripts were analysed thematically. Results: Three themes reflected participants' treatment journeys from concussion to life after treatment: (1) Dissatisfaction with Previous Consultations, reflected personal experiences prior to commencing treatment; (2) Perceived Active Ingredients of Intervention, reflected participant experiences of i-RECOveR; and (3) Impact of Interdisciplinary Intervention, reflected a range of positive changes after completing i-RECOveR. Conclusions: Findings highlight current gaps in the acute management of concussion and provide end-user insights into the facilitators and barriers of treatment engagement and response. Responses also highlight the potential positive impact of interdisciplinary treatments. Clinician perspectives should be explored in future research. IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATION: Access to additional training in concussion care and referral pathways may help medical practitioners manage patients after concussion. Clinicians working with individuals with persisting post-concussion symptoms should develop an understanding of the individual's perceived control over their symptoms, and work with them toward increasing autonomy and control and recognition that symptoms are often multifactorial in nature. Persisting post-concussion symptom rehabilitation may be improved by taking an interdisciplinary approach that is integrated individualised, and is specialised for concussion. Telehealth and hybrid treatment models are well tolerated by individuals with persisting post-concussion symptoms and may facilitate treatment engagement, especially for individuals with mild traumatic brain injury who report disabling symptoms made worse by travelling to in-person treatments. Purpose: Unaddressed hearing loss can adversely affect employment and day-to-day work-life. Efficient and effective audiology support can help optimise hearing in the workplace. This study explores the audiological rehabilitation experiences of workers with hearing loss (WHL). Materials and methods: Twenty-four WHL with experience of a wide range of audiology services across the UK participated in semi-structured interviews. Interviews were analysed using inductive thematic analysis. Results: Three main themes were generated: Theme 1: mixed experiences with audiology services (subdivided into two subthemes and four sub-subthemes). Theme 2: audiology role in work support (subdivided into three subthemes). Theme 3: "I think support could be improved if..." (subdivided into two subthemes). Conclusion: The audiological rehabilitation for working-age adults with hearing loss needs improvements to deliver sufficient support and quality care. Some of the barriers to having better-functioning hearing healthcare require fundamental standards in healthcare quality, such as access to services, staff (including audiologists) deaf awareness, information and technology support, and personalised care that considers work-life needs. Further research is required to evaluate the feasibility and cost-effectiveness of improvements, such as support that extends beyond hearing aid care, whether from audiology or non-audiology services. Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the limitations in transport use among stroke survivors in rural India and examine its impact on their social participation. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional survey assessed transport patterns, post-stroke changes, and limitations among patients with stroke (N = 77). Social participation was measured with the Stroke Impact Scale (SIS 3.0). Results: Following stroke, there was a significant decrease (28–41%) in the proportion of participants who could use various modes of transport unassisted, particularly in driving a motorbike or scooter and using a bus or train. Post-stroke changes in transport use showed that many participants ceased or decreased their use of different modes of transport. Independent users consistently had higher social participation scores than dependent users across all transport modes, indicating better social participation. The mean differences in various transport modes ranged from 6 to 11 points (p < 0.01). Conclusions: Independent use of different modes of transport, particularly public transportation, reduced among rural Indian stroke survivors. These transport limitations are significantly associated with reduced social participation, highlighting the need for interventions to improve accessibility and fostering greater community engagement for stroke survivors in this population. Purpose: Hip fracture is common in older people – with prevalence even higher for people with dementia. Research often excludes people with dementia – especially those in the more advanced stages. Therefore, the most appropriate interventions remain unknown. The main aim of this study was to gain consensus about the core considerations needed to deliver a physical intervention for people with advanced dementia who fracture their hip. Materials and Methods: An expert consensus process was undertaken, using Nominal Group Technique, to explore the key considerations when delivering rehabilitation. Data collection was undertaken in January 2023 and involved an online group discussion followed by voting and off-line rating. Qualitative content analysis and quantitative analysis of consensus scoring was undertaken. An international group of seven highly specialised physiotherapists took part. Results: 59 statements were agreed following the process. Content analysis was used to categorise these statements according to the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health. Although consensus levels were high, there was disagreement in several areas. Conclusion: The statements provide an overarching understanding of the multidisciplinary expertise that is needed to effectively deliver rehabilitation interventions to this population. People with dementia require highly skilled and trained professionals, providing holistic and person-centred approaches to deliver rehabilitation interventions. Purpose: To describe the sociodemographic and cognitive profile of participants enrolled in an adapted driving program for individuals with neurological conditions, to explore the association between cognitive functioning and driving program outcome, and to describe driving habits after program completion. Methods: This study combined retrospective chart review and cross-sectional data collection. Results: The sample included 71 participants with neurological disorders (aged 15–56 years, M = 22.2 ± 8.6; 39% women). Driving program was either successful (47%), failed (7%), discontinued (34%), or ongoing (13%). Among 35 participants with complete neuropsychological and driving program outcome data, those who successfully completed the program showed better attention functioning, and better performance relative to global functioning for attention, executive functions, and working memory, compared to those who discontinued/failed the program. Among 21 participants who completed a telephone questionnaire on average 3.7 years after program enrollment, 67% obtained their driver's license and drove regularly. Participants reported high levels of satisfaction with the program. Conclusion: These results suggest that approximately half of the persons enrolled in a driver training program designed for learners with neurological conditions, obtain a driver's license; and that attention, and to a lesser extent executive functioning and working memory, are related to driving program success. IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATION: In individual with neurological conditions, learning how to drive can be challenging. An adapted driver training program, involving collaboration between driving instructors and healthcare professionals, simplification of theoretical learning, and increasing driving practice opportunities, can be effective, both in terms of licensing success and client satisfaction. Conducting a pre-driving program neuropsychological assessment, with identification of cognitive strengths and weaknesses, can provide valuable information for clinicians and driving instructors for optimizing training and predicting outcome. Purpose: Aphasia is an acquired language impairment that commonly results from stroke. Non-invasive brain stimulation (NIBS) might accelerate aphasia recovery trajectories and has seen mounting popularity in recent aphasia rehabilitation research. The present review aimed to: (1) summarise all existing literature on NIBS as a post-stroke aphasia treatment; and (2) provide recommendations for future NIBS-aphasia research. Materials and methods: Databases for published and grey literature were searched using scoping review methodology. 278 journal articles, conference abstracts/posters, and books, and 38 items of grey literature, were included for analysis. Results: Quantitative analysis revealed that ipsilesional anodal transcranial direct current stimulation and contralesional 1-Hz repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation were the most widely used forms of NIBS, while qualitative analysis identified four key themes including: the roles of the hemispheres in aphasia recovery and their relationship with NIBS; heterogeneity of individuals but homogeneity of subpopulations; individualisation of stimulation parameters; and much remains under-explored in the NIBS-aphasia literature. Conclusions: Taken together, these results highlighted systemic challenges across the field such as small sample sizes, inter-individual variability, lack of protocol optimisation/standardisation, and inadequate focus on aphasiology. Four key recommendations are outlined herein to guide future research and refine NIBS methods for post-stroke aphasia treatment. Review of this literature revealed that anodal transcranial direct current stimulation is the mostly commonly used type of NIBS in aphasia treatment research. Purpose: To understand how persons with non-dysvascular lower limb amputation (LLA) use occupations to contextualize their quality of life (QoL). Methods: A qualitative study using an interpretative description approach was conducted. Analysis of the interviews was guided by an occupational perspective, which considers the day-to-day activities that are important to an individual. Results: Twenty adults with an adult-acquired non-dysvascular amputation (e.g., trauma, cancer or infection) were interviewed. Following thematic analysis, two main themes were developed: (1) sense of self expressed through occupations; and (2) sense of belonging with others influenced by occupations. Participants expressed the way they felt about themselves through their activities and placed high value on whether they could participate in certain occupations. Participants also described how their sense of belonging was changed through the context of their changing occupations. Conclusion: The findings from this work can be leveraged by clinicians and researchers alike to improve care for this population. Rehabilitation programs should consider interventions and programming that help to restore occupations or develop new ones given the importance placed on occupations by persons with non-dysvascular LLA. IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATION: Quality of life is affected following non-dysvascular lower limb amputation due to physical, mental and psychosocial changes. Occupations (or day-to-day activities) are important components of quality of life for persons with lower limb amputation. Rehabilitation professionals should take into account the influence that occupations have on how persons with lower limb amputation perceive themselves when developing interventions and programming for this population. Purpose: To explore staff perceptions of barriers and enablers towards implementing the EQ-5D-5L in community rehabilitation, and develop a theory-informed implementation approach for routine administration of generic patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) using implementation science frameworks. Materials and methods: A qualitative study was conducted at three sites. Multidisciplinary rehabilitation staff completed individual semi-structured interviews, which were transcribed and coded against the Theoretical Domains Framework (TDF). We identified and selected potentially effective behaviour change techniques using the Behavior Change Wheel. Hypothetical strategies were operationalised. Results: Twenty-one interviews were conducted, and four themes emerged: (1) The Impact of PROMs on patient centered-care; (2) Considerations for validity of PROMs; (3) Service-level impact of embedding PROMs; (4) Practical issues of embedding PROMs within the service. Barriers and enablers were mapped to seven of the TDF domains; relating most to clinicians' "belief about consequences", "reinforcement", and "environmental context and resources". Five hypothetical strategies were developed to overcome identified barriers and strengthen enablers. Key behaviour change techniques underpinning the strategies include: restructuring the physical environment, incentivisation, persuasion and education, enablement, and, social support. Conclusions: Our implementation approach highlights the importance of automating processes, engaging site champions, routinely reporting, and using PROM data to inform service provision. IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATION: Implementation of patient reported outcome measures within multidiscipline rehabilitation settings are likely optimised by establishing infrastructure support e.g., information technology systems to automate the process and minimise manual aspects of data collection. The term “Digital health” covers vide range technologies, such as mobile health and applications, electronic records, telehealth and telemedicine, wearable devices, robotics, virtual reality and artificial intelligence.Scientometrics is the method that we have done in this study by Cite Space and VOSviewer software, and the result of searching the Web of Science database in plain text format to perform analysis and scientometrics and create outputs in the form of graphs and tables in the field of digital health has been used in stroke rehabilitation.A total of 2933 documents related to digital health technologies in stroke rehabilitation were identified by searching for the terms “stroke rehabilitation” or “stroke recovery” in the title and “digital health” across all fields. The strongest citations related to cerebrovascular disease spanned from 1994 to 2007, with randomised clinical trials occurring almost simultaneously and ended by 2012. Consequently, stroke rehabilitation by virtual reality technology has obtained the most citations and clinical trials and as an important part of digital health in the future research process.This scientometric study offers insights into how digital health technology can assist stroke patients in self-managing their health and well-being, in addition to supporting integrated stroke rehabilitation. AbstractPurposeMethodsResultsConclusionsSurvival rates of lower extremity musculoskeletal tumours (LEMTs) have been increasing. However, patients continue to experience functional limitations after LEMT followed by limb-salvage surgery (LSS). This study aimed to identify factors influencing functional recovery after LSS for LEMT.A qualitative study was conducted using semi-structured interviews with a purposive sample of adult patients who underwent LSS for LEMT (n=7) and healthcare professionals (HCPs) with expertise in orthopaedic oncology (n=7). Recruitment continued until data saturation. A combination of deductive and inductive qualitative content analysis was performed to analyse the transcribed data, producing subthemes under the main International Classification of Functioning, disability and health (ICF)-model domains.Four themes were described: (1) bodily functions and structures, (2) activities and participation, (3) environmental factors, and (4) expectations. Physical aspects such as larger resection size and complications negatively affected recovery. The importance of communication strategies of tertiary HCPs and the unfamiliarity of the primary physical therapists with the disease, its surgical treatment, and related consequences were emphasised by both the interviewed patients and HCPs.Functional recovery after LSS for LEMT is a multifactorial process. AbstractPurposeMaterials and methodsResultsConclusions\nIMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATIONTo evaluate the psychometric properties of the Arabic version of the Activities-Specific Balance Confidence Scale using the 5-option response categories for individuals with lower limb amputation (ABC-5/Ar).This was a methodological study on a convenience sample of individuals with unilateral lower-limb amputation attending outpatient rehabilitation centres in Saudi Arabia and Turkey (N = 155). Rasch analysis (WINSTEPS version 4.6.5) was used to examine the 5-categories rating scale structure, item fit, item difficulty hierarchy, person separation index, unidimensionality, local item dependency, and differential item functioning.The ABC-5/Ar 5-response option demonstrated an appropriate model fit. Most items fit the Rasch model, except for item #12 “walk in a crowded mall,” which showed an overfitting value of 0.63. The person separation indices 2.95 (Cronbach’s α = 0.96). Principal component analysis of residuals confirmed the unidimensionality of the scale; however, local dependency was detected between item #14 “Ride in escalator holding rail,” and item #15 “Ride in escalator not holding rail.”The findings suggest that the ABC-5/Ar shows promise in assessing balance confidence in Arabic-speaking lower-limb prosthesis users. ObjectivesMethodsResultsConclusionThis study aimed to determine the clinical efficacy of Kinesiotaping (KT) combined with a rehabilitation program to reduce symptoms and functional limitations in patients with Rotator Cuff-Related Shoulder Pain (RCRSP) in Vietnam.In total, 82 participants who were diagnosed with RCRSP were randomly allocated into two groups. Both groups received a standard rehabilitation program; additionally, the intervention group was treated with KT. Outcomes, assessed at baseline, and 3, 7, and 14 days postintervention, included pain intensity (Visual Analogue Scale, VAS), functional disability (Shoulder Pain and Disability Index, SPADI), and active range of motion (ROM).The KT group exhibited significant improvements in all outcome measures. VAS scores decreased by an average of 13.3 points in the KT group at 14 days, which was notably greater than that in the control group (95% CI: −17.77 to −8.82). SPADI scores also improved significantly in the KT group, with reductions of −11.36, −15.27, and −13.3 at days 3, 7, and 14, respectively. Regarding ROM, the KT group showed notable improvements in flexion and external rotation, with flexion ROM differences of 10.78, 10.35, and 11.8 degrees at the respective time points. No significant changes were observed in the abduction or internal rotation ROM. After adjusting for age, baseline scores, and gender, there was a statistically significant interaction between Group and Time on the VAS, SPADI, and ROM abduction.Incorporating KT into a standard rehabilitation program for RCRSP demonstrated enhanced efficacy in reducing pain and improving shoulder function. AbstractThis paper aims to investigate the impact of conventional rehabilitation training and neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) on the recovery of motor abilities in patients following ligament injury reconstruction. Forty postoperative patients who underwent surgery for anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) were randomly allocated to either the conventional rehabilitation group or the NMES group. The NMES group received NMES treatment in addition to the conventional rehabilitation program starting from eight weeks postoperatively. Various parameters, including knee joint function, stability, and balance, were compared between the two groups at eight weeks and 12 weeks postoperatively. Compared to the data at eight weeks postoperatively, both groups exhibited significant improvements in all measured indicators at 12 weeks postoperatively (p < 0.05). In the 12th week after the surgery, the NMES group demonstrated a Lysholm score of 93.18 ± 3.67 points, an IKDC score of 84.65 ± 2.33 points, a KT-2000 measurement of 0.88 ± 0.45 mm, a thigh circumference difference of −1.33 ± 0.55 cm, a knee flexion angle of 130.12 ± 4.21°, a single-leg standing time of 60.12 ± 9.33 s, a YBT score of 70.26 ± 2.68 points, and a Bulgarian split squat 1RM size of 58.07 ± 6.85 kg; all of these results were significantly superior to those observed in the conventional group (p < 0.05). Interpretive thematic analysis was used to analyse interview data; descriptive statistics analysed Likert scale responses; patient written responses assisted with the interpretation of themes developed from the interview data.Two major themes were elicited in this study: the home is a physical setting and the home is a lived space. Advantages and disadvantages of RITH for patients, carers and healthcare professionals were identified within these themes. Appropriate patient selection; effective communication with patients and carers, and within RITH teams; adequate patient and carer support; ensuring the safety of patients and staff; and education of patients, carers and healthcare professionals are essential for the satisfactory implementation of RITH.The concept of home shapes the delivery of RITH. IntroductionPurposeMethodResultsConclusionThe International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC) and Anterior Cruciate Ligament – Quality of Life Questionnaire (ACL-QOL) are frequently used patient-reported instruments designed for individuals with anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACL-R).To evaluate responsiveness and determine minimal important change (MIC) for the Persian-version of IKDC and ACL-QOL in athletes with ACL-R following physiotherapy intervention.One hundred athletes with ACL-R, undergoing 16-week physiotherapy completed IKDC and ACL-QOL at weeks 4 and 20 post ACL-R. Participants also rated their overall changes on a 7-point global rating of change at follow-up. Responsiveness was evaluated using the receiver operating characteristics (ROC) curve and correlation analysis. In addition, the minimal important change (MIC) was determined on the ROC curve.Acceptable responsiveness was reached by the IKDC and most of the subscales of ACL-QOL (area under the ROC curve (AUC) of 0.72–0.79). Also, the subscale of Lifestyle issues of ACL-QOL (AUC of 0.81 (95% CI = 0.72–0.89) and the overall of ACL-QOL (AUC of 0.87 (95% CI = 0.80–0.93) showed the good level of responsiveness. The MIC scores of IKDC and the Overall ACL-QOL were determined 25 and 26 points, respectively.The IKDC and ACL-QOL questionnaires have adequate responsiveness and are able to measure the change in athletes with ACL-R following a 16-week physiotherapy intervention. Sex, relationships, and substance use often go hand in hand. Despite this, the impact of sex and relationships on recovery are often overlooked in the field of substance use disorder treatment (SUDT). This study aims to explore sex, relationships, and relapse risk for people in recovery and as an overlooked area of importance in SUDT. This qualitative study uses semi-structured interviews with people currently and/or formerly in prison, together with ethnographic field data from four high security prisons in Norway, collected between July 2021–April 2022. Common sources of anguish around sex after release and recovery included both forming new and maintaining long-term relationships with partners at a different stage in their recovery, dating and initiating sexual relationships with new partners, concerns about sexual performance and fears around attaining sexual pleasure without chemical enhancements. The implications that sex, dating and intimate relationships may have for individual relapse to substance use, can and should play a greater role in both SUD treatment and preparation for release from prison. These problems are exacerbated in carceral settings and should be considered when planning re-entry to the community and in the development of individual relapse prevention strategies. Wearable technology may provide the possibility to monitor and quantify home exercises, to increase motivation for training and to facilitate cooperation between stroke survivors and physiotherapists. However, little is known about potential users' opinions about using such systems. To explore stroke survivors' and physiotherapists' perspectives on the potential benefit of such wearable technology consisting of a smartphone application and movement sensors. Four semi-structured focus group discussions, two with stroke survivors (n = 12) and physiotherapists (n = 11) respectively, were conducted to explore their perceptions on the potential of such technology. We developed four main themes through the thematic analysis: 1) the app should be well-developed, user-friendly and flexible; 2) the app's potential for feedback and the experience of progression; 3) the app as a tool for rehabilitation; and 4) the app's potential to strengthen the relationship between stroke survivors and physiotherapists. Stroke survivors' use of wearable technology to promote home exercise will depend as much on their trust in the professional and relational competence of the physiotherapist as the technical issues of an app. The potential benefits of wearable technology for cooperation between stroke survivors and physiotherapists and as a tool for rehabilitation were highlighted. Early rehabilitation after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is crucial in functional outcomes. However, considering improvements in the first six months, there may be benefits to continuing rehabilitation beyond three months postoperatively to achieve maximum functionality and strength. The aim was to compare: (a) effectiveness of late-phase clinic-based and home-based progressive resistance training (PRT) in female patients with TKA; and (b) crude cost of both interventions and explore feasibility. Thirty-two patients were assigned to clinic-based PRT (n = 16) and home-based PRT (n = 16) groups. A training program was performed at the clinic or at home for eight weeks. Pain, quadriceps and hip abductor strength, patient-reported and performance-based outcomes, knee range of motion (ROM), joint awareness, quality of life (QoL) were assessed at baseline (three months postoperatively) and after 8-week intervention (five months postoperatively). Feasibility and crude cost were examined. Exercise adherence was 100% in clinic-based PRT and 90.6% in the home-based PRT group. Both interventions improved quadriceps and hip abductor muscle strength, performance-based and patient-reported outcomes, knee ROM, and joint awareness without side effects (p <.05). Clinic-based PRT showed better results in: activity pain (p =.004, ES = −0.888); knee flexion (p =.002, ES = 0.875) and extension ROM (p =.004, ES = −1.081); chair sit-to-stand test (p =.013, ES = 0.935); joint awareness (p =.008, ES = 0.927); and QoL than home-based PRT (p <.05). Late-phase clinical-based and home-based PRT interventions may be beneficial in improving muscle strength and functionality in patients with TKA. Chronic neck pain has a significant impact on the patient's quality of life. Specific outcome measures like Copenhagen Neck Functional Disability Index (CNFDI), Neck Bournemouth questionnaire (NBQ), and Spine Functional Index (SFI) are reliable and valid measures that have been used for comprehensively evaluating neck-related disabilities. However, responsiveness has not yet been investigated. The aim of this study was to examine the responsiveness and clinically meaningful changes of the CNFDI, NBQ, and SFI for Persian patients with chronic neck pain. Prospective recruitment of 145 patients with chronic neck pain was conducted. Participants completed the Persian versions of CNFDI, NBQ, and SFI at baseline and after 4 weeks of physical therapy. Also, the Global Rating of Change Scale (GRCS) was completed in the post-intervention assessment. The Receiver Operating Characteristics (ROC) curve and correlational analysis were used for evaluating the responsiveness. In addition, the Minimal Clinically Important Change (MCIC) was determined. All selected outcome measures revealed an area under the curve of 0.96. The MCICs of 10, 7, and 10 points were found for the CNFDI, NBQ, and SFI, respectively. The results showed an excellent Gamma correlation coefficient of the CNFDI (γ = 0.98), NBQ (γ = 0.99), and SFI (γ = 0.99) with the GRCS. The Persian versions of the CNFDI, NBQ, and SFI have acceptable responsiveness properties for evaluating the changes in health status in patients with chronic neck pain following physical therapy interventions. To systematically review and critically appraise prognostic models for quality of life (QOL) in patients with total knee replacement (TKA). Subjects were TKA recipients recruited from inpatient postoperative settings. Searches were made on June 2022 and updated on April 2023. Databases included PubMed.gov, CINAHL, The Cochrane Library, Web of Science. Two authors performed all review stages independently. Risk of bias assessments on participants, predictors, outcomes and analysis methods followed the Prediction study Risk Of Bias ASsessment Tool (PROBAST). After screening 2204 studies, 9 were eligible for inclusion. Twelve prognostic models were reported, of which 10 models were developed from data without validation and 2 were both developed and validated. The most frequently applied predictor was the pre-TKA QOL score. Discriminatory measures were reported for 9 (75.0%) models with areas under the curve values of 0.66–0.95. All models showed a high risk of bias, mostly due to limitations in statistical methods and outcome assessments. Several prognostic models have been developed for QOL in patients with TKA, but all models show a high risk of bias and are unreliable in clinical practice. This study aimed to investigate the predictive factors of transfer of glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) patients who underwent rehabilitation in acute care hospitals. We retrospectively identified 85 patients with GBM who underwent rehabilitation at our hospital. Multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that age and Barthel index (BI) at rehabilitation initiation significantly influenced the discharge destination. Cut-off values for these factors were 76 years of age and 30 BI points. These findings could help predict the discharge destination and the choice of rehabilitation strategies of newly diagnosed patients with GBM admitted to an acute care hospital. The purpose of this study was to investigate cardiac rehabilitees' experiences with wrist-worn activity monitor (Fitbit Charge HR) and internet-based coaching software (Movendos m-coach) in outpatient rehabilitation to promote physical activity and a healthy lifestyle. A 12-month cardiac rehabilitation intervention consisted of three 5-day inpatient periods in a rehabilitation centre, between which participants (n = 32; age mean 62.3 years old (SD 6.3), men n = 24 (75%)) used an activity monitor and internet-based coaching software at home. Experiences with the use of technologies were measured at the end of the 12-month intervention with a questionnaire that was designed using the framework of the Technology Acceptance Model (Likert scale 1–7; 1 = strongly agree and 7 = strongly disagree). Data analysis was based on indicators describing the average experiences and Spearman's correlation coefficient. Both technologies had positive acceptance (internet application mean: 3.2, 95% CI: 2.6–3.7; activity monitor mean 2.1, 95% CI: 1.7–2.5). Sociodemographic factors, physical activity, and familiarity with using technology in daily life were not correlated with technology acceptance of either technology. Objective: Stroke represents a primary cause of morbidity and mortality in pregnant and postpartum people. While pregnancy-related stroke has drawn increased attention in certain domains of health research (e.g. obstetrics, neurology), neuropsychology has yet to contribute to this literature. Given neuropsychologists' crucial role in stroke evaluation and rehabilitation efforts, our field is poised to offer insights into this important topic. Method: This review presents facts about pregnancy-related stroke most relevant for neuropsychologists, including epidemiology, risk factors, and mechanisms, alongside clinical considerations and open areas of inquiry. Structured in the format of a traditional neuropsychological evaluation, we walk readers through factors to consider in record review, the clinical interview, and providing feedback and recommendations. Conclusions: Pregnancy-related stroke can be associated with marked functional disability and decreased quality of life, and it is notable that prevalence rates are increasing. Presenting at a time when people are experiencing adjustment to a new phase of life, and most commonly affecting women of color and other vulnerable populations, pregnancy-related stroke is a unique condition warranting special attention within the broader stroke discourse. This review aims to serve as a starting point for neuropsychologists to better understand the unique attributes of pregnancy-related stroke through a neuropsychology lens. Correctional practice has seen a proliferation of prison animal programmes over the last two decades, but scant attention has been paid to the impact of prison farm animal work. Five members of prison dairy farm staff in the UK were interviewed about their experiences of supporting prison workers, including their perceptions of its potential impact for supporting rehabilitation from offending. Reflexive thematic analysis was used to identify three overarching themes: the positive human-bovine relationship; strengthening interpersonal skills and intrapersonal benefits. This paper suggests that prison dairy work has the potential to support desistance from further offending by facilitating the transition towards a non-offending identity, cultivating and enabling compassionate behaviour, and improving wellbeing. Future research could include: an analysis of the recidivism data of prison farm livestock workers; qualitative explorations of prison livestock workers’ experiences (including those working with cows and other food/production animals); and research with a specific focus on the transferability of compassionate and caring attitudes towards self and others away from the farm setting. Findings from this exploratory study inform debate about the value and transferability of prison farm animal work and should be used to contribute to a larger body of work on this topic. Drug treatment courts have transformed the way in which courts process drug-related cases and respond to drug-involved offenders. Established as a diversion program, drug courts help to reduce recidivism among substance-involved individuals. Given the rapid expansion of drug courts across the nation, research examining their effectiveness has also increased. While there is evidence that drug courts are successful at reducing recidivism compared to more traditional court interventions, several studies in the literature have lacked an adequate comparison group using appropriate statistical techniques to reduce selection bias. Further, questions remain whether specific types of interventions or outcomes of those interventions are more beneficial than others. The current study adds to the existing drug court literature by conducting an outcome evaluation in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin to determine whether differences in recidivism existed between individuals in a drug treatment court and a comparison group of traditionally adjudicated individuals. Within-group differences were also examined to determine whether the type of intervention (drug court graduates, drug court revoked, traditional probation, traditional incarceration) was significantly influential in the likelihood of recidivism. The aim of our study is to inform the development of a rehabilitation program of care from the perspectives of those suffering from degenerative cervical radiculopathy (DCR). We conducted a qualitative study, purposefully recruiting individuals with DCR. Transcripts from virtual semi-structured interviews were iteratively analyzed using interpretative phenomenological methods. Eleven participants were recruited and depicted their ideal rehabilitation program of care. Participants described the importance of a patient centered-approach, health care providers who were validating, reassuring and attentive, easier access to health services, a supportive and collaborative team environment, and receiving peer support. Furthermore, participants expressed that they would expect the program of care to result in their symptoms being less intense and intermittent. In consideration of the participant perspectives, the ideal rehabilitation program of care can be conceptualized by the enactive-biopsychosocial model, which provides a theoretical framework for developing and implementing the program of care. We obtained valuable information from individuals living with DCR regarding their preferences and expectations of a rehabilitation program of care. The participant descriptions will provide the groundwork for its development to meet patient needs and expectations. Future research to guide implementation will also be explored. The lives of those suffering from cervical radiculopathy are significantly impacted. Incorporating patient perspectives in the development of care plans can lead to the inclusion of interventions considered patient-centered and may improve implementation, adherence, and outcomes. Participants described their preferences and expectations of a rehabilitation program of care that may assist in its future development to meet patient needs and expectations. To explore barriers and facilitators to community reintegration experienced by people following traumatic upper limb amputation (ULA). An exploratory qualitative study was conducted with ten adults with major ULA due to trauma. Data from individual, semi-structured interviews was analysed using Braun and Clarke's reflexive thematic analysis. Underlying and influencing community reintegration for participants, was a process of adjustment to the impacts of amputation on everyday function and re-establishing their identity. Participants felt social networks and peer support facilitated the return to social and community activities, as did drawing on personal attributes such as positivity, resilience and self-belief. Prosthetic devices were facilitative for community reintegration by minimising visible differences and unwanted attention through restored cosmesis and in the performance of functional tasks to fulfil social norms and meaningful roles despite issues with comfort and function. Despite the adaptation and evolution of abilities, perspectives and identities, the functional impact of ULA on everyday community activities was an ongoing challenge for all participants. ULA has a significant and lifelong impact on an individual's ability to complete tasks and fulfil meaningful roles in the community. Recommendations based on the study's findings will inform clinicians to support community reintegration for people following traumatic ULA. Rehabilitative environments and interventions that promote self-efficacy, positivity, problem-solving skills and resilience may support adjustment and community reintegration following upper limb amputation. Facilitating appropriate peer support and the strengthening of existing social supports may assist social and community reintegration. The facilitative effects of prosthetics on community participation and reintegration may be enhanced through client-centred, goal-directed and timely prosthetic provision and training. Person-centred care (PCC) is an essential component of high-quality healthcare across professions and care settings. While research is emerging in subacute nutrition services more broadly, there is limited literature exploring the person-centredness of nutrition care in rehabilitation. This study aimed to explore person-centred nutrition care (PCNC) in rehabilitation units, as described and actioned by patients, support persons and staff. Key factors influencing PCNC were also explored. An ethnographic study was undertaken across three rehabilitation units. Fifty-eight hours of field work were completed with 165 unique participants to explore PCNC. Field work consisted of observations and interviews with patients, support persons and staff. Data were analysed through the approach of reflexive thematic analysis, informed by PCC theory. Themes generated were: (1) tensions between patient and staff goals; (2) disconnected moments of PCNC; (3) the necessity of interprofessional communication for PCNC; and (4) the opportunity for PCNC to enable the achievement of rehabilitation goals. PCNC was deemed important to different stakeholders but was at times hindered by a focus on profession-specific objectives. Opportunities exist to enhance interprofessional practice to support PCNC in rehabilitation. Future research should consider the system-level factors influencing PCNC in rehabilitation settings. Understanding what matters to patients in rehabilitation was reported as essential in person-centred nutrition care (PCNC), however varying degrees of this were observed in practice, with tensions exposed between the priorities of patients and staff. Collaborative goal setting is needed to enact PCNC, placing the patient at the centre of the process, rather than focusing on pre-determined, profession-specific agendas. However, reorientating this process must coincide with consideration of influencing systems, service priorities and cultures. Nutrition and mealtime-related goals of patients should be communicated not only within clinical teams, but also with dietetic support staff to better inform interprofessional practice and PCNC. Sensory hypersensitivity is a frequently reported complaint after acquired brain injury (ABI). This study explores patients' perceptions of sensory hypersensitivity following ABI and its impact on everyday life. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 18 patients with ABI (stroke, brain tumour, TBI) who reported complaints of sensory hypersensitivity. Interview data were analysed using qualitative thematic analysis. Six themes emerged from the data: (1) definition of sensory hypersensitivity, relating to individual perceptions of sensory hypersensitivity; (2) type of sensory stimuli, relating to the variety of stimuli that patients may be sensitive to; (3) course, relating to changes in sensory hypersensitivity following ABI; (4) fatigue, relating to its association with sensory hypersensitivity; (5) consequences of sensory hypersensitivity, relating to the physical, social and emotional impact of sensory hypersensitivity on patients' lives; and (6) coping strategies, relating to behaviours used to cope with sensory hypersensitivity. Sensory hypersensitivity can have a major impact on patients' physical well-being, return to work and (social) participation after ABI. Characteristics of sensory hypersensitivity vary between patients with ABI. To develop treatments for sensory hypersensitivity, future studies should focus on cognitive (e.g., filtering information) and psychological factors (e.g., coping) in relation to sensory hypersensitivity. Sensory hypersensitivity occurs in all types of acquired brain injury (ABI). It is important to ask an ABI patient how sensory hypersensitivity is experienced. It is recommended to investigate the physical (e.g., headache) and emotional (e.g., irritability, anger, frustration) consequences of sensory hypersensitivity and its impact on return to work and social participation. Purpose: Evidence-based practice (EBP) is considered central to ethical, effective service delivery in rehabilitation, and the implementation of the World Health Organisation's Rehabilitation Strategy 2030. This study aimed to explore and compare the experiences of health professionals regarding the application of EBP for stroke rehabilitation in each participant's region and country, which provided perspectives from low, middle, and high-income countries.Methods and materials: Interviews were conducted with 12 experienced rehabilitation professionals from 12 different countries (5 high-income, 2 upper-middle income, 3 lower-middle income, and 2 low-income countries) and interpreted using qualitative descriptive analysis.Results: Nine factors influencing evidence-based stroke rehabilitation were: 1) the complexity of rehabilitation research; 2) the (ir)relevance of research to local context; 3) lack of time for EBP; 4) minimal training in EBP; 5) changing health professional behaviours; 6) poor access to resources for developing EBP; 7) influence of culture, patients, and families; 8) language barriers; and 9) lack of access to research evidence. Economic constraints contributed to many challenges; but not all challenges related to the country's economic classification.Conclusion: A global approach is needed to share knowledge about EBP, especially scientific evidence and innovative thinking about its application to clinical practice. Rehabilitation professional groups should contribute to a global network to improve informal knowledge sharing and training around evidence-based practice. Support for training in evidence-based practice and its application needs to be developed and accessible in all countries, including low and middle-income countries. It is imperative that policymakers prioritise practical, evidence-based solutions for rehabilitation research in low and middle-income countries that can be effectively implemented within local settings. There must be solutions and increased accessibility of journal articles for those working in low and middle-income countries including those whose first language is not English. The international incidence of stroke in people of working age is rising. As such, meaningful work return is a major rehabilitation goal for many individuals, including those with aphasia. This scoping review aimed to outline the post-stroke aphasia evidence related to work outcomes, factors influencing employment along with contemporary vocational-language and communication rehabilitation practice. The review employed terms related to aphasia, stroke, rehabilitation, and return to work in publications preceding 25.6.2023. Data were descriptively analysed, and vocational outcomes were summarized at defined timepoints. Of the 908 articles reviewed, 31 papers were included. Individuals with post-stroke aphasia consistently have lower rates of return to work than those post-stroke without aphasia. Employment at one year was 34.29% for those with aphasia compared to 58.46% for people without aphasia. No literature reported vocational-language assessment practices and there were minimal work-focused aphasia interventions identified. There was insufficient evidence to clearly identify person-related, rehabilitation, workplace or other factors influencing work return. This scoping review has identified that there are gaps in knowledge about the factors that influence work return and targeted vocational rehabilitation for this group. In Italy, 1400 children and 800 adolescents are diagnosed with cancer every year. About 80% of them can be cured but are at high risk of experiencing severe side effects, many of which respond to rehabilitation treatment. Due to the paucity of literature on this topic, the Italian Association of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology organized a Consensus Conference on the role of rehabilitation of motor impairments in children/adolescents affected by leukemia, central nervous system tumors, and bone cancer to state recommendations to improve clinical practice. The aim of this study was to investigate clinicians' perspectives regarding their usage of rehabilitation technology in their day-to-day practice and uncover the factors that impact clinicians' use of rehabilitation technology in their daily practice. An online survey was used to gather cross-sectional data from American occupational therapists, occupational therapy assistants, physical therapists, physical therapy assistants, and speech language pathologists. This survey used Likert-scale, multiple choice, and free-response questions. Approximately half (n = 56/105, 53.3%) of our clinicians reported using rehabilitation in their daily practice. Less than 20% (n = 18/105, 17.1%) of the respondents strongly agreed that they felt comfortable implementing new rehabilitation technology, and few reported that their workplace encouraged (n = 16/85, 18.8%) or strongly encouraged (n = 14/85, 16.5%) the use of rehabilitation technology in practice. Additionally, excluding the 2011–2020 graduate clinicians that reported that they had not learned about rehabilitation technology in school or fieldwork, few reported feeling prepared (n = 14/97, 14.4%) or very prepared (n = 4/97, 4.1%) to use rehabilitation technology after graduation. Our findings have revealed a sizable knowledge-to-practice gap in regard to clinicians' preparedness to engage with and advocate for rehabilitation technology in their day-to-day practice. There is a great need for more robust educational instruction at the scholastic level for students in order to prepare future clinicians to engage with rehabilitation technology in the field. For practicing professionals in the workplace, in-service training, clear training protocols, and technology support for clinicians are needed to remediate the current knowledge-to-practice gap. The relationship between a patient and their therapist plays a crucial role in patient engagement. While Computerized Cognitive Training (CCT) may assist in preserving cognitive skills in cases of aging, dementia or acquired brain injuries, its effectiveness has not been definitively proven. Improving user engagement, acceptance, and software usability could aid in addressing this issue. The present study aims to identify potential obstacles and facilitators by examining the perspectives of rehabilitation professionals on the current usage of CCT software. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 16 rehabilitation professionals, familiar with a CCT software. The data were transcribed and followed by an independent iterative thematic analysis. Two major themes were identified: (1) facilitating factors and (2) difficulties related to use. The main obstacles were difficulties related to the computerized nature of the exercises, technology use, understanding the software and general learning difficulties. The main facilitators were the ecological and novel nature of the exercises, and the adaptability of the difficulty levels. The complexity of the CCT presents challenges for its usage by rehabilitation professionals, which in turn can impede patient utilization as well. To address this issue and promote sustainable use of the software, providing instruction delivery to facilitate learning and understanding of the CCT is essential. Poor walking aid compliance and accessibility can put the user at an increased risk of falls. We explored the acceptability and accessibility of magnetic walking aids (MWAs) compared to standard walking aids (SWAs) in inpatients following joint replacement. A non-blinded pilot randomised controlled trial was conducted. Inpatients following hip or knee replacement were randomly allocated to the MWA group (n = 20) or the SWA group (n = 20). Primary outcomes were the acceptability and accessibility of the MWA compared to the SWA during their inpatient stay, assessed through made-to-measure patient and staff questionnaires. The secondary outcome was the number of times the walking aid came to rest on the floor, measured using logbooks kept by participants. The participants in the MWA group reported their aid was more easily accessible, and that they were more likely to use their aid in their room than participants in the SWA group. Participants in the MWA group dropped their aid less often, with a median of 0.3 walking aid drops per day in the MWA group and 1.1 drops per day in the SWA group (p = 0.002). The results of this pilot randomised trial suggest MWAs may be an acceptable and inexpensive intervention for improving walking aid accessibility and adherence and reducing walking aid drops when compared to SWAs. Magnetic walking aids may be a simple and cost effective way for improving walking aid compliance compared to standard walking aids. Walking aid adherence can be difficult to monitor within hospital and community settings. Magnetic walking aids may be safe to use in a controlled inpatient hospital environment with no adverse effects. Rehabilitation professionals prescribe patients with suitable powered mobility aids (PMAs) based on patient characteristics, e.g., age and mobility. However, there is paucity of literature examining patient characteristics associated with PMA types in Asian contexts. This research aims to study (i) characteristics of Singapore PMA users and (ii) correlations between characteristics and two PMA types – motorised wheelchairs and powered scooters. It is hypothesised that patients' age, mobility status and medical conditions have correlations with PMA types. A cross-sectional, retrospective study design was used to investigate characteristics of patients (age ≥ 21 years) at Tan Tock Seng Hospital Occupational Therapy Seating Clinic between 2017 and 2019. Comparisons of proportions of motorised wheelchair users versus powered scooter users based on characteristics were analysed using Chi-square test. Subsequently, statistically significant patient characteristics were selected for a multiple logistic regression. Among 352 patients, 21% and 79% were prescribed motorised wheelchairs and powered scooters, respectively. Patients aged 61–90 years were twice those aged 21–60 years. Males were double of females. Patients of (i) an older age, (ii) more ambulant, (iii) independent in transfers and (iv) in activities of daily living (ADLs), were more likely powered scooter users. Conversely, patients of (i) a younger age, (ii) less ambulant, (iii) require assistance in transfers and (iv) in ADLs were more likely motorised wheelchair users. Patients' gender and caregiver status showed no statistically significant correlations with PMA types. Rehabilitation professionals could consider patients' age, mobility status, transfer status and ADL status when prescribing PMA for Asian populations. To review the effectiveness of isokinetic training as an alternative method to traditional isotonic resistance training. Researchers examined data from PubMed, CENTRAL, MEDLINE COMPLETE, and Web of Science until February 2023. A total of 365 entries were obtained from databases, including studies that analyzed the effects of isokinetic vs. isotonic-based rehabilitation in athletes (16–50 years) after a surgical knee intervention. Return to sport (RTS), strength of the flex/extensor compartment of the thigh, muscle mass of the thigh, and knee function were screened as main outcomes. Two reviewers independently screened the studies for eligibility and assessed the risk of bias of the included ones. Six studies involving 181 athletes were included. Isokinetic training demonstrated significant benefits in peak torque for knee flexor-extensor muscles in four studies. Two studies favored isokinetic training over isotonic for strength. Muscle mass findings were mixed, with one study favoring isokinetic significantly and two showing no significant differences. In terms of returning to sport, the isotonic group displayed slightly better limb symmetry index values, but without significance. Isokinetic training outperformed isotonic in two functionality questionnaire studies, while two others showed no significant differences. Isokinetic training appears equally, if not more effective than isotonic, for restoring strength balance between hamstrings and quadriceps. This could lead to more favorable muscle mass changes. Isokinetic training also parallels isotonic rehabilitation for functional outcomes and meeting return-to-sport criteria. Therefore, isokinetic training should be included as one of the main strength restoration strategies after knee surgery, especially in early and middle rehabilitation stages. In the years since the emergence of Boko Haram, the terror threat posed by the sect's violent extremism has remained a challenge for the Nigerian government. The failure to contain it has been attributed to the government's over-reliance on military strategies. While conventional approaches are useful in weakening the operational capacity of domestic terrorism, they do not provide a long-term solution. The use of military strategies to quell ideological and religious-driven terrorism has proven counterproductive. As a result, scholars and security practitioners have recommended a combination of military and non-military strategies to address insurgency. Non-military strategies include de-radicalization, disarmament, amnesty, indigenous conflict resolution mechanisms, and other soft power measures. In line with this, the Nigerian government adopted 'Operation Safe Corridor' in a bid to de-radicalize, rehabilitate and reintegrate former Boko Haram combatants who voluntarily surrender to the government. This article assesses Operation Safe Corridor's institutional mechanisms as a counter-terrorism strategy in Nigeria. It argues that the lack of a legal framework, issues of public perception and trust and host communities' reluctance to accept former Boko Haram combatants have undermined successful implementation of the program. It is imperative for the government to address these challenges in order to achieve Operation Safe Corridor's objectives and ensure successful deradicalization and reintegration of former combatants. The study aimed at assessing the extent to which recovered addicts and peoples recovered from sober houses reintegrate in the community life in Zanzibar. The study applied a qualitative research design whereby Sober Living Homes (SLHs) operators provided 86 contacts of the recovered individuals. Researchers started to communicate with them for future interviews. Of the 86 recovered individuals, researchers managed to communicate with 62 respondents, of whom only 39 were found eligible for the interviews. However, only 26 participated in the research since 13 of the eligible candidates declined participation. The results revealed that re-admission of the recovered individuals to SLHs persists, making drug use a public concern in Zanzibar. The study identified that community-negative attitudes toward recovery efforts, surrounding environment, easy access to drugs, lack self-awareness, lack of enough knowledge, lack of activities to do, life challenges and stress, friends, and own decision to start drug use again as the significant driving factors for the readmission to drugs. In addition, drug use among the recovered persists because the community pays less concern to the recoving individuals. Community based factors are potential for complete recovery process from drug use among reintegrated drug users. The study recommends that the lovely welcoming of drug users after sober house life is very critical to the reintegration of these drug users into their community. This review evaluates their concepts, uses, and trends, combining evidence-based research. Areas covered: This review dissects the anatomy of EMG-BF systems, emphasizing their transformative integration with machine-learning (ML) and deep-learning (DL) paradigms. Advances such as the application of sophisticated DL architectures for high-density EMG data interpretation, optimization techniques for heightened DL model performance, and the fusion of EMG with electroencephalogram (EEG) signals have been spotlighted for enhancing biomechanical analyses in rehabilitation. Participants were assigned to Top-down, Bottom-up interventions, or control group, and received a 6-week intervention. They were assessed before/after treatments and at follow-up (6 weeks later). Impairments were measured through kinematic analysis, Trail Making Tests (TMT), and Fugl-Meyer Assessment (FMA). Activity and participation were evaluated via Box and Block Test, Motor Activity Log (MAL), and Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (COPM), respectively.We found significant improvements in impairment (FMA) and participation (COPM) in all groups, however, COPM scores improved beyond the MCID only in the Top-down, and FMA scores exceeded the MCID in Top-down and Bottom-up groups. Fatigue is common following paediatric acquired brain injury (ABI) and can negatively impact quality of life. Despite this, there is limited understanding of how clinicians currently assess and manage fatigue in rehabilitation. This study explored how Australian rehabilitation clinicians recognize, assess, and manage fatigue following paediatric ABI. Using a qualitative research design, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 11 clinicians who work with children (0-18 years) with ABI in rehabilitation. Interview transcripts were analysed using constructivist grounded theory methods. Two main themes and sub-themes were developed: (1) Reaching a shared understanding: Identifying and understanding fatigue; Unpacking fatigue with children and their families; and (2) Using the shared understanding: Clinicians working collaboratively to manage fatigue; Planning for and supporting children and their family through transitions; Anticipating and problem-solving speedbumps. Participants reflected on the importance of reaching a shared understanding of fatigue within each child's unique context, requiring the collaborative effort of the child, family, school, and interdisciplinary rehabilitation team, to problem-solve and manage fatigue together over time. Because the patient was unable to make informed treatment choices, all medical care was delivered in the patient’s best interest amidst questions and doubts about the value of continuing life-saving treatments and escalation plans.This article is not to defend or challenge the decisions made during this patient’s care, but reflects on the complexity and impact of these situations on the patient, the family, and the care team. The aim of the present study is to investigate the effectiveness of remote healthcare services in the field of neuropsychological interventions.A systematic literature search was conducted in the electronic databases of PubMed, PsychINFO and Google Scholar. The main search terms were “remote neuropsychological intervention or training.” The included articles were RCT studies published in English, examining the effectiveness of remote healthcare services in neuropsychological interventions for adults with neurological disease diagnoses. Studies involving psychiatric disorders were excluded. Two reviewers assessed the quality of the studies and risk of bias using the PEDro Scale.A total of 10 studies with 2.221 participants were included. All studies concluded that remote healthcare intervention programs can be feasible, safe and effective in the rehabilitation process of neurological diseases.The present review demonstrated that the domains of neuropsychology have opportunities to forge ahead beyond traditional settings and have the ability to adapt to constantly changing environmental conditions with a view to providing patient care. PRACTICE IMPACT STATEMENTResearch suggests that autistic individuals have qualitatively unique experiences of prison social environments, and that these experiences may have implications for autistic prisoners’ mental wellbeing and engagement with offending behaviour interventions. However, this has yet to be quantitatively tested. Using a sample of 177 adult prisoners from two UK prisons that exclusively house individuals with sexual convictions, this study tested a hypothesised double-mediation model, to investigate associations between autistic traits and prisoners’ readiness to engage with treatment, and whether this was mediated by experiences of the prison social climate and mental wellbeing. Results indicated that prisoners with higher levels of autistic traits had poorer experiences of prison social climates, which, in turn, predicted higher levels of anxiety and depression, which subsequently predicted reduced level readiness to engage with offending behaviour interventions. Implications for research and practice are discussed, emphasising the need for increased autism-related awareness and support provisions in prisons.The present study is a novel quantitative study, which is the first to statistically demonstrate that neurodivergence can significantly influence prisoners’ perceptions of prison social climates, mental wellbeing, and ultimately readiness to engage with rehabilitate interventions. BackgroundObjectiveCase DescriptionOutcomesConclusionAnkle osteoarthritis (OA) is a disease involving pain and decreased physical function which can attenuate the tolerance to perform high-load resistance training. Low-load blood flow restriction (BFR) training has been demonstrated to improve muscle strength, muscle size, and physical function in patients suffering from OA.We examined the effects of 12 weeks of BFR-training performed 4 times a week in an individual with Kellgren–Lawrence (KL) grade 4 ankle OA.A 32-year-old woman with KL grade 4 right ankle OA subsequent to a clubfoot repair in childhood performed 12 weeks of BFR-training. Four exercises with concurrent blood flow restriction (60% of arterial occlusion pressure) targeting the lower leg were performed 4 times/week. The following outcome measures were collected at baseline and 12 weeks after BFR-training: The Foot and Ankle Outcome Score (FAOS), calf circumference, maximal isometric muscle strength, single-leg heel raise test, single-leg stance test, and lateral side-hop test.Adherence to the training was 93.75%. The patient demonstrated improvements in FAOS subscale symptoms, pain, and sports/recreational activities by 19–47 points (minimal detectable change (MDC) = 18–21.5 points); maximal muscle strength in plantarflexion (36%), eversion (55%), and inversion (38%) (MDC for plantarflexion = 16.81–29.97%). The single-leg heel raise test and the lateral side-hop test improved with 66% and 51%, respectively. Integration of these themes provided a framework for understanding meaningful contributions of rehabilitation from the participants’ perspective.The study identified seven interconnected themes enhancing meaningful contributions of rehabilitation for participants who have substantially improved from persistent pain. These findings provide a novel conceptual understanding of how rehabilitation can foster recovery. The themes strongly support person-centred care, an understanding of Pain Dialogue and personal growth through the lens of the lived experience. Self-awareness impairment is common following acquired brain injury and can impact rehabilitation outcomes. Knowledge of factors associated with impaired self-awareness may assist with rehabilitation planning. To identify factors associated with self-awareness and determine predictors of self-awareness impairment for adults with traumatic brain injury (TBI) and stroke. A retrospective cohort study of rehabilitation inpatients was conducted by medical record audit. Self-awareness was measured using the Self-awareness of Deficits Interview (SADI). Relationships between SADI scores and demographic and clinical variables were identified with non-parametric statistics. Predictors of SADI scores were identified using ordinal regression analyses for TBI and stroke groups. Participants were 149 adults (18–70 years) with TBI (n = 110) and stroke (n = 39). For TBI, longer post-traumatic amnesia (PTA), lower functional cognition/communication, and behaviors of concern (BoC) were significantly associated with higher SADI scores (i.e. impaired self-awareness). For stroke, lower functional cognition/communication and motor scores were associated with higher SADI scores. Impaired self-awareness was predicted by PTA duration, acute length of stay and presence of BoC for the TBI group, and by functional cognition/communication for the stroke group.
