India is one of the largest consumers of gold but remains largely unexplored and requires proper attention from investors, regulators and policymakers. Our study aims to uncover the relationship between policy uncertainty and gold prices in India, considering a timeline from 2004 to 2023. Using India EPU and geopolitical uncertainty-related index, the empirical estimation was performed in a time series framework using standard OLS and augmented regression using data from MCX-India and WGC prices. Our statistical investigation signals that policy uncertainty and gold prices in India are positively associated. This implies a higher degree of policy uncertainty and a higher gold price. Monetary policy uncertainty and interest rate changes shows an asymmetric impact on the gold price in India; the effects were more pronounced after 2015. Furthermore, policy uncertainty contains information explaining gold futures prices and has a two-month lag impact. Thus, gold trading in India is sensitive to the economic outlook of the economy and policy uncertainty. Gold imports in India have an adverse effect on gold prices. It is also reported that the INR/USD exchange rate plays a vital role in gold price setting. Hence, the study suggest that India's government should develop a healthy gold ecosystem and gold-policy. Several research efforts were dedicated to analysing the effects of foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows on gross domestic product (GDP) and employment in the host economies. The variations in the conclusions signal that other variables influence and moderate the effects of FDI on GDP and employment. Institutional elements receive limited research attention, despite their influence on the host economies. This paper investigates the moderating role of institutional elements in the FDI-host economies on FDI’s effects on GDP and employment with China and India as case studies. The approach utilises three principal methodologies. The first methodology presents an in-depth analysis of China and India, highlighting selected institutional elements with the potential to influence FDI’s effects. The second methodology confirms the presence of a positive correlation between FDI and GDP and a negative correlation between FDI and employment-to-population ratio (EPR) in both China and India. The FDI, GDP purchasing power parity per capita, and EPR datasets are extracted from the World Bank – DataBank World Development Indicators to ensure the consistency of the data. The results of the quantitative analysis validate the qualitative analysis. The qualitative analysis confirms the moderating role of the selected institutional elements with variations in direction and strength. Significant variations in FDI’s effects on GDP and employment are strongly related to variations in the institutions of governance. The institutions of governance include the functionality of the state organs, the efficiency of the legal system and enforcement of the rule of law, and the quality of implementation of FDI-supportive policies. The findings aim to increase the absorption of the positive effects of FDI on GDP and employment in the respective countries. The research is a cornerstone of in-depth future research into the following areas: the role of selective FDI and constructive conditional FDI policies, the functionality of judicial authority controls, and FDI favourable exchange rates and interest rates policies. The novelty and contribution of the paper lie in its comprehensive exploration of the moderating role of institutional elements on the effects of FDI on GDP and employment in host economies, with a specific focus on China and India. The paper contributes significantly to the academic literature on FDI and economic development by emphasising the importance of institutional factors and providing actionable insights for policymakers and researchers. This study examines the dynamic causal relationships between house prices and their five determinants - real income, short-run real interest rates, real stock price index, real effective exchange rate, and real non-food bank credit - by using the quarterly data from 1996:Q1 to 2007:Q1 for India. Using the cointegration test and the vector error-correction model (VECM), the study finds that in the long run, real income significantly and positively influences the housing prices while real non-food bank credit adversely influences it. The variance decomposition results suggest that it is the shocks to the non-food bank credit that mainly explains the variability in housing prices, besides its own shocks being the most influential while other factors are not significant. This suggests that the role of credit availability as a supply side determinant cannot be underestimated in the dynamic behaviour of housing prices in emerging economies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We estimate a flow of funds model for the household sector in India, within the Almost Ideal Demand System (AIDS) framework, and examine the demand for money and the substitution effects between money and other financial assets. The restricted long-run model, obtained using cointegration techniques, provides stable equilibrium relationship between I(1) variables and broadly satisfies the axioms of rational choice in consumer demand theory. We find that financial sector reform exerts a significant impact on the interest rate structure and household portfolio preferences; specifically, there is strong substitutability among risk-free assets and a possible speculative effect in the stock market, while the exchange rate strongly influences the demand for money.
