This study examines the relationships between CO2 emissions, GDP, renewable energy consumption, and trade openness across 37 OECD countries from 1995–2020. Using a Panel Vector Autoregressive (PVAR) model and Granger Causality tests, the research probes the causality among these factors. Key findings show a notable causality from GDP, renewable energy, and trade openness to CO2 emissions. Specifically, lags in renewable energy consumption and trade openness significantly decrease CO2 emissions. Surprisingly, GDP's influence on CO2 emissions is found to be negligible, challenging the typical belief linking economic growth to environmental degradation. These insights hold great value for policymakers in environmental governance and climate finance. The data underscores the importance of promoting renewable energy and trade openness for effective CO2 reduction. The study advocates a sustainable environmental governance model, emphasizing strong legal structures and clarity in execution. Since GDP doesn't significantly impact CO2 emissions, there's potential to pivot towards sustainable economic growth models. Economic developments affect urban land-use changes. Using Lefebvre's production of (urban) space as a conceptual framework, this study investigated the industrialisation process and its urban spatial outcomes in three cities (Galan, Dukem, and Bishoftu) along the southern outlet of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia's capital. Landsat images were used to quantify the changing patterns of the three cities from the period 2006 to 2021. Interviews with key informants and document analysis were used to supplement these findings. The analysis reveals that in Addis Ababa-Bishoftu economic growth corridor, the unruly urban land-use changes have become a serious issue, challenging the sustainable development of cities. The study confirms that the proximity to Addis Ababa has contributed to the urbanisation process and urban corridor formation through investment expansion. This study considers the economic importance of export activities, logistics performance and transportation services as key agents of sustainable development. Considering this aspect of economic development, this study investigates the mediating role of logistics performance in determining the effects of export and transportation on the economic growth of the panel data of 35 emerging upper-middle-income countries over the period 2008-2018. By employing the economic growth model and considering essential indicators, this investigation addresses key aspects of development in the examined economies. The empirical results show that logistics performance, exports, human capital, and population have a statistically significant impact on economic growth with respective elasticities of 0.28, 0.36, 1.25, and negative 0.05. Importantly, the study reveals that logistics performance moderates the effect of export and transportation on economic growth, thus aiding the sustainable development of upper-middle-income countries by increasing export-economic growth elasticity from 0.36 to 1.26. Although transportation services do not influence economic growth independently, its economic importance became significant with elasticity of 1.113 when logistics performance is improved. Therefore, policy makers in upper-middle-income countries should maintain strict macroeconomic policies that could effectively engineer the sustainable export of goods and services and ensure high-quality logistics performance even in the transport sector. Sustainable development goals (SDG) incorporate multiple dimensions to measure the progress made by nations in consolidating their economic and human development. Consequently, the main objective of this study is to explore the structures of variation and covariation between the SDGs indicators interpreting and describing their current status by countries and regions of the world. This study assessed 40 SDG indicators reported by 125 countries in the 2021 Sustainable Development Report, using the HJ-Biplot multivariate technique, through which it is possible to analyze the existing relationships between indicators and countries in a multidimensional way. The results indicate that the global North countries currently display solid sustainability characteristics that favor economic growth, though more work is required to protect the environment and promote responsible production and consumption. On the other hand, the countries of the global South with less purchasing power must still work on policies and strategies to promote the health and well-being of their populations, enable access to essential household services (water, sanitation, electricity, and internet, among others), and promote equality. The objective of this study was to identify the pattern of economic growth of China by identifying the factors that are contributing to sustainability and reducing inequality in the Chinese communities. The role of sustainable development goals has become critical for even the non- democratic country because inequality is also found in China which is rapidly increasing due to overpopulation and other factors. In this study, the questionnaire was developed on the Likert scale to collect the data from the economists to test the relationship between the hypotheses. The sample size for this study was 330 from the selected population of 800 people with a response rate of 45%. The study concludes that there is a critical role of sustainable development goals, sustainable economic policy, and labor productivity in the growth of China's economy. Further, this study also demonstrates that the Chinese government must focus on sustainability to reduce inequality in society. Significantly, this study provides a detailed insight into the relationship of factors that are contributing to China's economic growth that was not discussed earlier in the Chinese economic context. Sustainable development goal (SDG) achievement has gained increasing trend due to the current economic uncertainty that demands the attention of scholars, practitioners, and regulators. Hence, the study examines the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) responsibilities and economic development such as economic growth, net national income and FDI on the SDG achievements in BRICS countries. The secondary data is considered for the study which was collected from various resources like SDG reports published by the united nation and World Bank Indicators (WDI) from 1991 to 2020. The current research has checked them without structural breaks stationarity using Dickey-Fuller (ADF) test, Phillips–Perron (PP) test, and Kwiatkowski–Phillips–Schmidt–Shin (KPSS), while stationarity with structural breaks has been examined using the 'zivot-andrews' test. The study also employed the ARDL technique to verify the association among the constructs. The findings revealed that ESG responsibilities, economic growth, net national income, FDI, and inflation positively correlate with SDG achievements in BRICS countries. Recently, sustainable development goals (SDGs) have become an international requirement that needs to be achieved and requires the focus of recent literature and regulation authorities. Thus, the current article investigates the impact of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) and economic growth on the SDG of ASEAN countries. The current study has extracted secondary data from secondary sources such as SDGs reports and world development indicators (WDI) from 1986 to 2020. The present study has used the Panel Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) to test the linkage among the variables. The results highlighted that the environmental score, social score, governance score, and economic growth positively associated with the ASEAN countries' SDGs. The current article provides help to new researchers while conducting research on achieving SDGs and guides policymakers while establishing policies regarding achieving the SDGs through ESG. Industrial structure upgrading (ISU) in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) has been improving in recent years, making it essential to examine how such upgrading influences pollution emissions in SSA. However, studies concerning the environment in SSA have overlooked this important role. Consequently, achieving the Sustainable Development Goals becomes futile if such critical issues are not given due attention in policy discourse. In light of this, this study examined the effect of ISU on pollution emissions in 28 SSA countries using data from 1980 to 2020 and employed two key measures of ISU as contributions to the literature. Regarding the analysis, the fixed effects, random effects, and feasible generalized least squares estimators and the Dumitrescu and Hurlin (D-H) causality test were employed. The results show that ISU improves the sustainable environment by reducing pollution emissions in SSA by 0.03–0.04%. Furthermore, economic growth (EG) increases pollution emissions by 0.63–0.72%, but after reaching a threshold level of 0.10%, EG reduces pollution emissions by 0.03–0.04%. This confirms the EKC hypothesis in the selected SSAs. The D-H causality analysis also reveals a bidirectional relationship between ISU and pollution emissions. This study aims to explore how international sport experts make sense of sport's interaction with sustainable development. We adopted the interpretivist lens, combining the viewpoints of identified experts with the systems thinking approach. We conducted 29 semi-structured interviews with higher management decision-makers in international sport organizations and used an inductive approach for theory building to analyze the data and the systems map to show the various interrelations of the categories that were identified. The systems map offers a visualization of perceived causal connections that stem directly from the interviews with the experts. The map contains 58 variables, including nine themes and 49 categories, which are connected via 112 causal links, indicating the interconnected structure. The themes "environment," "social inclusion," "economic growth," and "health and wellbeing" represent outcomes of sport, while "visibility," "safety," "communication means," "educational tools," and "governance and integrity" are mechanisms of how sport can interact with sustainable development. The systems map presents a tool for understanding the complexity of relationships between key variables at play that can help policymakers, practitioners, and researchers when formulating, testing, and implementing various policy options directed toward increasing sustainability of sport stakeholders. Even though the Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals say that low-carbon economic growth is essential, more research must be done to determine how the tourism sector affects carbon productivity. So, to see if increased energy usage, tourism, and economic growth jointly raise carbon productivity in Kuwait, this study uses a vector error correction strategy to look at the years 1995–2020. Predictions about how sustainable tourism will affect energy efficiency, and carbon productivity improvements are also an excellent way to learn more about this subject. As the amount of carbon dioxide in the air increases, tourism will go down by 0.13 percent. Inverse cointegration is the term for this phenomenon. However, the vector error correction model showed that carbon emissions go down as the economy grows and people pay more attention to how much energy they use. Green finance is an effective means adopted by the Chinese government to reduce carbon emissions. Does the development of green finance in Chinese provinces reduce carbon emissions to a certain extent? This study selects panel data of various provinces and cities in China from 2003 to 2019. Based on the Hansen threshold regression model, an empirical analysis is conducted with economic growth and industrial structure as threshold variables to test the impact of green finance on carbon emissions. The results show that green finance increases the speed of carbon emission mitigation when PGDP is the threshold. Taking industrial structure as the threshold, the impact of green finance development on carbon emissions presents an inverted N shape. At the same time, it is found that green finance has become an important means to reduce carbon emissions in the eastern region, the impact of green finance on carbon emissions in the central region presents an inverted U shape, and the driving force of green finance on carbon emission reduction in the western region is weak. Furthermore, it is pointed out that improving the quality of green finance and enhancing the level of green finance empowered by science and technology are the keys to realizing sustainable green development. The popularity of green innovation has dramatically increased in the recent times because of the potential benefits attached with it. Therefore, in order to make the technology more affordable, green innovation is the key to enhancing the affordability factor. On the other hand, in order to safeguard the environment, the role of media is one of fundamental importance. In contrast, energy consumption is often regarded as a key indicator of economic prosperity, mostly at the cost of the environment. Hence, the present study attempts to explore the asymmetric effect of the film and drama industry, energy efficiency, and economic growth on green innovation, with the help of the latest quantile autoregressive distributed lag (QARDL) method for the period 2000Q1 to 2019Q4. The results have reported a positive and significant association of the Film and Drama Industry, Energy Efficiency, and economic growth on the quantiles of Green Innovation. Based on the findings, it is recommended that there is a dire need to develop content that promotes the green innovation, whereas, more investments are to be sought after, so as to enhance the level of energy efficiency. This study applies the method of the fully modified ordinary least squares (FMOLS) method and the vector error correction model (VECM) to explore whether institutional quality (IQ) and foreign direct investment (FDI) promoted economic growth (EG) and environmental quality (EQ) in oil-producing and non-oil-producing African countries from 1999 to 2017. The FMOLS findings demonstrate that IQ significantly promoted EG and improved EQ in the non-oil-producing countries, however it only improved EQ and showed no significant impact on EG in oil-producing countries. FDI significantly promoted EG to a higher extent in oil-producing countries than in non-oil-producing countries, but it presented no significant impact on EQ in both groups. The VECM results reveal that (i) two-way causation among IQ and EG, IQ and EQ, FDI and EG, and FDI and EQ was occurred in both groups, in the long-run. (ii) two-way causation among FDI and EQ and one-way causation from FDI to EG was observed in non-oil-producing countries in the short-run. Moreover, two-way causation among IQ and EG, and one-way causation from IQ to EQ were observed in non-oil-producing countries. The economic growth-environment nexus explores the relationship between economic growth, as understood in the neoclassical free market or neoliberalism economic theory context, and its implications for the environment. Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is considered one of the most successful environmental policy instruments to deal with the consideration of environmental implications of development decisions. Because the economic growth-environment nexus is central to discourses in EIA it is helpful to gain an improved understanding of different perspectives manifesting and influencing EIA practice. This paper aims to identify pluralism in perspectives on the economic growth-environment nexus in EIA practice. This is achieved by applying the Q-method to EIA practice in South Africa and involve the sorting of 36 statements by 16 respondents. The results show pluralism and distinct patterning with four key perspectives emerging namely: the deontological perspective, neoliberal progression, EIA polarisation and new conservationist perspective. We hope this research contributes towards a growing understanding of how different perspectives on the economic growth-environment nexus might influence EIA practice and decision making. This article discusses a dilemma of welfare states in the ecological transition. While the principle of "sustainability" is increasingly accepted, there are very different concrete declinations of it. I identify two broad interpretations of sustainability and corresponding paths of social change. The dominant approach, promoted by governments, businesses, and international organizations focuses on inclusive green growth. It aims to decouple economic growth from environmental degradation and seeks to make the transition to a green economy as socially inclusive as possible. In this context, "enabling" social policies mainly focus on employment promotion. The second approach, mostly embraced by heterodox academics and social movements, involves a deeper social-ecological transformation which attempts to lower the priority of economic growth and employment. Accordingly, the role of capacitating welfare states is to enable all individuals to flourish in a post-productivist society. I argue that while the second approach is normatively superior to the first one, it is also more difficult to realize, generating a dilemma for future-oriented politics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In recent years, nontraditional security (NTS) studies have been the focus of growing interest in the security literature. However, this work only focuses on conceptualization and associated risks and makes only limited connections between nontraditional security and sustainability. Furthermore, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) have been threatened by NTS concerns such as the COVID-19 pandemic. The aim of this article is to contribute to the current debate about NTS and to formulate an integrated approach with sustainable development. We devote attention to sustainability and security studies to understand the challenges and opportunities for achieving sustainable outcomes. To highlight the role of the management of NTS in achieving the SDGs, we review the literature and analyze the main threats of NTS in Vietnam. This article shows that sustainability studies should not be separated from nontraditional issues. By analyzing case studies of NTS threats in Vietnam, we find that the economic, social, and environmental pillars of Vietnam's sustainable development are threatened despite the country's great success in economic growth in recent decades. We conclude by noting that the lack of integrated linkages between NTS and sustainability creates obstacles for Vietnam's sustainable development and nontraditional sources of insecurity pose a serious threat to the development prospects of the country. Therefore, in the context of an integrated approach, countries should incorporate certain aspects of the human-security agenda as nontraditional matters into their national development policies. Our paper examines the triangular relationships between energy consumption, trade openness and economic growth of 45 countries from 1991 to 2014 using dynamic seemingly unrelated regression (DSUR) models. We confirm a bidirectional relationship among energy consumption and income, trade openness and income, trade openness and energy consumption for countries in the long run. Interestingly, the impact of energy consumption on economic growth is larger than the impact of trade openness, trade openness evidence larger impact on energy consumption than the impact of economic growth. However, the effect of economic growth on trade openness is the largest in the triangular relationships. We suggest that energy measures that aim to lessen energy usage in an economy will hinder economic growth. Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) ranks lowest globally in respect of energy access rates. The resulting high energy poverty impedes sustainable economic growth and aggravates the overall poverty which is prevalent in SSA countries. A better understanding of the relationship between financial development and energy consumption can contribute to enhancing sustainable development in SSA. The existing literature presents conflicting evidence regarding this relationship. Our objective is to investigate the symmetric and asymmetric relationships between financial development and energy consumption in SSA, using annual data from 1990 to 2016. The Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) panel estimator was employed to test for the linear relationship and symmetric effects of the long-run and short-run coefficients. The asymmetry was determined by decomposing financial development into positive and negative components, employing the non-linear ARDL (NARDL) method. The results reveal that a positive financial development shock is positively linked with energy consumption in the long-run implying that further financial development intensifies energy consumption. Results of the negative shock in financial development is positively linked with energy consumption in the long-run implying that the reduction in financial development could decrease energy consumption. In any economy, the financial sector plays a fundamentally important role in achieving economic growth and thus achieving sustainable economic development. Therefore, interest in this sector and the improvement of its performance is considered a strategic goal for any country. Accordingly, this study aims to analyze the short- and long-run impacts of inflation on the development of this sector on the Jordanian economy for the period from 1993 to 2018. To do so, the study uses an auto-regressive distributed lag bound testing approach, which is considered an advanced analytical model. Empirical findings confirmed that there is a statistically significant long- and short-run negative effect of inflation on financial sector development. On the contrary, there is a statistical significant long- and short-run positive impact of economic growth on financial sector performance. Economic impact assessment (EcIA) has attracted some criticism due to its limited focus. Typically, EcIA is used to validate the proposed proposals based on growth in income and employment. This paper argues that EcIA should play a more active and stronger role in impact assessment. For example, the impacts of the proposed projects should be assessed using the economic development goals rather than only changes in economic growth. The conceptual framework for the comprehensive impact assessment is discussed. Examples of indicators that can be used in relation to sustainable development goals are provided. The Big Push for Sustainability centers investments that lead to decoupling, on the one hand, economic growth and job creation - necessary to raise living standards and reduce inequalities - and, on the other hand, greenhouse gas emissions. In sum, the Big Push for Sustainability can be defined as a set of complementary sustainable investments thatproduce avirtuous cycle of economic growth, job creation, development of production chains, and reduction of environmental impacts, while recovering the productive capacity of natural capital - all together and at the same time. Like the Big Push for Sustainability, these reports also propose Keynesian elements, such as green stimulus packages for sustainable investments, which can simultaneously boost the economy and protect the environment. With increasing population and demand for food, reducing food loss and waste is one of the greatest challenges worldwide. Current estimates point to over 1 billion tons of food lost and wasted worldwide, though nearly 10 percent of the global population is suffering from undernourishment and food insecurity. In Mozambique, about one-quarter of the population suffers from undernourishment and food insecurity. Estimates from FAO point to postharvest losses of maize in Mozambique at about 3.69 to 7.92 percent; this is less than one-fifth of the on-farm losses reported by other authors. In this study, an Equilibrium Displacement model is used to assess the economy-wide impact of postharvest losses of maize at the farm level. The impact of a 3 percent postharvest loss is tested. Results suggest that even this very conservative percentage of postharvest losses has a direct annual net cost of around $USD 28 million for both farmers and consumers domestically. This is equivalent to over 1 percent of the national budget. It is also higher than the average cost of food aid programs received over the last three years. This article reports on the results of an international study of the managerial and institutional interventions associated with relatively successful economic development programs from developing countries. The important role played by managerial/organizational variables in project/ program performance has always been recognized by development planners and policymakers, but has been a neglected area of observation and study. As a result, basic understanding of how these variables operate and interact in the public context and the people's ability to design and implement institutional interventions appropriate to the conditions in the developing world have not improved significantly in spite of three decades of development planning and programming.
