Abstract

Many-body localization (MBL) describes a quantum phase where an isolated interacting system subject to sufficient disorder displays non-ergodic behavior, evading thermal equilibrium that occurs under its own dynamics. Previously, the thermalization-MBL transition has been largely characterized with the growth of disorder. Here, we explore a new axis, reporting on an energy resolved MBL transition using a 19-qubit programmable superconducting processor, which enables precise control and flexibility of both disorder strength and initial state preparations. We observe that the onset of localization occurs at different disorder strengths, with distinguishable energy scales, by measuring time-evolved observables and many-body wavefunctions related quantities. Our results open avenues for the experimental exploration of many-body mobility edges in MBL systems, whose existence is widely debated due to system size finiteness, and where exact simulations in classical computers become unfeasible., Comment: 9 pages, 5 figures + supplementary information

Abstract

The late Permian–Triassic granites in southeastern China have important tectonic significance for the evolution of South China. Here, we present the detailed geochronological, geochemical and petrological analyses for the Jinlongyan (JLY) granite in northwest Fujian Province, southeast China. LA–ICP–MS zircon U–Pb dating yielded a weighted average 206Pb/238U age of 224.1 ± 3.3 Ma. The granite is mainly comprised of K-feldspar, plagioclase, quartz, biotite and minor amphibole. It is characterized by enrichments in Rb, Th, REEs (total REE = 295.1–694.3 ppm), and HFSEs (e.g., Zr = 289–520 ppm, Hf = 9.3–15.0 ppm, Y = 36.2–68.2 ppm) but depletions in Ba, Sr, Eu and Ti. The granite is metaluminous to weakly peraluminous and show a clear A-type granite geochemical signature with high SiO2 (70.89 wt%–75.76 wt%), total alkalis (Na2O + K2O = 7.51 wt% –8.72 wt%), Ga/Al ratios (10000 Ga/Al = 2.72–3.43). In-situ zircon Hf isotope analysis shows their eHf(t) values ranging from −7.2 to −3.2, with Mesoproterozoic T2DM ages (1308–1525 Ma). Whole-rock Nd isotope data show their eNd(t) values in the range of −9.5 to −9.1 and yield paleoproterozoic TDM ages (1606–1985 Ma). These characteristics indicate that the JLY A-type granite magma was formed by the partial melting of Meso-Paleoproterozoic crust rocks in the Cathaysia Block. Our study of the JLY A-type granite, together with other Triassic A-type granites in South China, defines an extensional environment in the late Triassic which probably was caused by the collision of the South China Block with Indochina Block.

Abstract

Quantifying quantum coherence has attracted considerable interests. In the present work, we employ two measures of quantum coherence recently proposed in terms of the skew information and the trace norm, respectively, to investigate the quantum phase transitions (QPTs), factorization in the XY model and the thermal phase transitions (TPTs) in the transverse field Ising model. Two quantifications of quantum nonlocality via the same distance measure of the quantum coherence are also studied for reference. It is shown that two types of quantum coherence are reliable in identifying QPTs and TPTs. However, only the quantum coherence based on the skew information can detect factorization. In addition, the quantum coherence and nonlocality measured via the same distance space have similar finite temperature scaling law, while the quantum coherence based on skew information and trace norm has different finite temperature scaling law. Moreover, the skew-information-based quantum coherence at finite temperature suggests that factorization vanishes when temperature exceeds 0.02 (Boltzmann constant $$k_{B} = 1$$ ), which is in agreement with the results of the fidelity for states with different distances of spin-pairs.

Abstract

The origin of the enantio- and regioselectivity of ring-opening reaction of oxabicyclic alkenes catalyzed by rhodium/Josiphos has been examined using M06-2X density functional theory(DFT). DFT calculations predict a 98% ee for the enantioselectivity and only the 1,2-trans product as one regio- and diastereomer, in excellent agreement with experimental results. The solvent tetrahydrofuran(THF) plays a key role in assisting nucleophilic attack. Orbital composition analysis of the LUMO and the NPA atomic charge calculations were conducted to probe the origins of the regioselectivity. The orbital composition analysis reveals two potential electrophilic sites of the Rh–π-allyl intermediate M3 and the NPA atomic charges demonstrate that Cα carries more positive charges than Cγ, which suggests that Cα is the electrophilic site.

Abstract

Due to the difficulty of DNA extraction for Demodex, few studies dealt with the identification and the phyletic evolution of Demodex at molecular level. In this study, we amplified, sequenced, and analyzed a complete (Demodex folliculorum) and an almost complete (D12 missing) (Demodex brevis) ribosomal DNA (rDNA) sequence and also analyzed the primary sequences of divergent domains in small-subunit ribosomal RNA (rRNA) of 51 species and in large-subunit rRNA of 43 species from four superfamilies in Acari (Cheyletoidea, Tetranychoidea, Analgoidea, and Ixodoidea). The results revealed that 18S rDNA sequence was relatively conserved in rDNA-coding regions and was not evolving as rapidly as 28S rDNA sequence. The evolutionary rates of transcribed spacer regions were much higher than those of the coding regions. The maximum parsimony trees of 18S and 28S rDNA appeared to be almost identical, consistent with their morphological classification. Based on the fact that the resolution capability of sequence length and the divergence of the 13 segments (D1-D6, D7a, D7b, and D8-D12) of 28S rDNA were stronger than that of the nine variable regions (V1-V9) of 18S rDNA, we were able to identify Demodex (Cheyletoidea) by the indels occurring in D2, D6, and D8.
