To investigate the clinical significance of enhancing mural nodules ≥ 5 mm by comparing the diagnostic performance of high-risk stigmata for diagnosing the malignant IPMN between the international consensus guideline (ICG) 2012 and 2017 in pancreatic magnetic resonance image (MRI).In this retrospective study, we reviewed preoperative pancreatic MRI with surgically confirmed IPMNs between May 2009 and April 2021. High-risk stigmata, defined by ICG 2012 and ICG 2017, associated with malignant IPMN were evaluated using logistic regression analysis. We calculated and compared the sensitivity and specificity of ICG 2012 and ICG 2017 for diagnosing malignant IPMNs. Receiver-operating characteristic (ROC) curves were used to compare ICG 2012 to ICG 2017.A total of 73 patients (43 men and 30 women; mean age, 69 years; standard deviation, 8 years) with 34 malignant IPMNs and 39 benign IPMNs were included. Among high-risk stigmata, enhancing mural nodule ≥ 5 mm, and MPD diameter ≥ 10 mm were the significant predictor of malignant IPMN, in multivariate logistic regression (P 0.001 for all). For the diagnosis of malignant IPMN, the specificity of ICG 2017 for enhancing mural nodules ≥ 5 mm as the high-risk stigmata was significantly higher than that of ICG 2012 (87.2% vs. 64.1%, P = 0.008). However, there was no significant difference in sensitivity between the two guidelines (94.1% vs. 97.1%, P = 1.0). The comparison of the ROC curves showed that the diagnostic performance of ICG 2017 for malignant IPMNs (AUC, 0.91) significantly improved when compared to that of ICG 2012 (AUC, 0.81) (P = 0.01).When applying enhancing mural nodule ≥ 5 mm as a high-risk stigmata, ICG 2017 provided a significantly higher specificity than ICG 2012 without a reduction in sensitivity.

To compare the content and communication between the radiologist and the clinicians for treatment planning of structured reports (SRs) and narrative reports (NRs) for reporting CT/MRI findings in patients with perihilar cholangiocarcinoma. This retrospective study included 54 patients with perihilar cholangiocarcinoma who underwent CT/MRI before ERCP or surgery. For all patients, we generated both NRs and SRs for perihilar cholangiocarcinoma and compared the number of key features between NRs and SRs. In addition, three clinicians performed a questionnaire evaluation that included three questions regarding assessment of the sufficiency of information for surgical or procedural planning, the effort required for information extraction, and the report quality rated on a Likert scale. Gastrointestinal tract (GI) perforations can occur due to various causes such as trauma, iatrogenic factor, infectious condition, peptic ulcer, inflammatory disease, or a neoplasm. Because GI perforations represent an emergency and life-threatening condition, prompt diagnosis and surgical treatment are required in most cases. However, according to the underlying causes of GI perforations, additional treatment strategies may be needed. Adjuvant chemotherapy or immunotherapy may be required in various GI neoplasms such as adenocarcinoma, lymphoma or gastrointestinal stromal tumor. Inflammatory bowel disease is a chronic disease repeating cycle of intermittent, thus appropriate medical treatment and periodic follow-up are also required. Moreover, vascular intervention may have a role in some cases of mesenteric ischemia associated with mesenteric artery occlusion. Recently, computed tomography (CT) has been the first choice for patients with suspected GI perforations, because CT plays an important role in the accurate assessment of the perforation site, the pathology causing the perforation and the ensuing complications. This review will illustrate characteristic CT findings that differentiate underlying pathologies causing GI perforations to help clinicians decision-making regarding an optimal treatment plan.

We evaluated the detection rate and degree of motion artifact of the modified CAIPIRINHA-VIBE (mC-VIBE) without view-sharing and compare them with the CAIPIRINHA-Dixon-TWIST-VIBE (CDT-VIBE) with view-sharing on multi-arterial gadoxetic acid–enhanced liver MRI in the assessment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). We retrospectively identified 114 pathological-proven hepatic tumors in 114 patients with risk of HCC who underwent multi-arterial gadoxetic acid–enhanced MRI between June 2016 and June 2018. All patients underwent triple arterial phase imaging using the mC-VIBE without view-sharing (54 patients; 49 HCCs and 5 non-HCCs) or the CDT-VIBE with view-sharing (60 patients; 55 HCCs and 5 non-HCCs). We compared the detection rate of two sequences for HCC, with reference to LI-RADS.V.2017. We also compared the mean motion scores and proportions of transient severe motion (TSM) in two sequences. For the examination using the mC-VIBE, the HCC-detection rate was significantly higher, compared with that using CDT-VIBE (93.9% [46/49] vs 80.0% [44/55], respectively; p = 0.047). Two different types of ZnO nanorods (hexagonal pyramid-shaped nanorod and hexagonal prism-shaped nanorod) were integrated on light emitting diodes (LEDs) for the investigation of light waveguide effects, which were evaluated using electroluminescence (EL) and current-voltage (I–V) characteristics. EL intensity in LEDs with hexagonal prism-shaped ZnO nanorod arrays were improved by 18% while EL intensity in LEDs with hexagonal pyramid-shaped ZnO nanorods were reduced by 25% compared to bare LEDs. 3D-finite dimension time domain (3D-FDTD) programs were used to simulate the light waveguide effect on the two different shapes of ZnO nanorods. In addition, photonic crystals (PCs) effects in ZnO nanorod arrays were simulated to verify the light waveguide effect. It was found that light in a hexagonal prism-shaped ZnO nanorod propagated from the bottom to the top end. However, the light in a hexagonal pyramid-shaped ZnO nanorod was dissipated on the lateral face. The light extraction efficiency in ZnO nanorod arrays was dominated by the top end shape and planar density of ZnO nanorods.

To evaluate the subjective and objective qualities of computed tomography (CT) venography images at 80 kVp using model-based iterative reconstruction (MBIR) and to compare these with those of filtered back projection (FBP) and adaptive statistical iterative reconstruction (ASIR) using the same CT data sets. Forty-four patients (mean age: 56.1 ± 18.1) who underwent 80 kVp CT venography (CTV) for the evaluation of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) during 4 months were enrolled in this retrospective study. Localized plasmonic structures with the periodic ZnO nano-patterns are demonstrated to increase the sensing characteristics of plasmonic sensor. The ZnO nano-patterns with 30 and 50 nm thicknesses are formed on the Au thin film of 50 nm, which have the periodic nano-patterns of 300 nm. Localized plasmonic structures are optimized using the three-dimensional finite-difference time-domain method as a function of incident angle for the width and thickness of the ZnO nano-structures. Localized plasmonic structures with the periodic ZnO nano-holes are fabricated using the double exposure technique by laser interference lithography. The measured resonance angles of 47.5° and 54° are obtained in the localized plasmonic structures with the periodic ZnO nano-patterns of 30 and 50 nm thicknesses, respectively.

To retrospectively evaluate the image quality of CT angiography (CTA) reconstructed by model-based iterative reconstruction (MBIR) and to compare this with images obtained by filtered back projection (FBP) and adaptive statistical iterative reconstruction (ASIR) in newborns and infants with congenital heart disease (CHD). Thirty-seven children (age 4.8 ± 3.7 months; weight 4.79 ± 0.47 kg) with suspected CHD underwent CTA on a 64detector MDCT without ECG gating (80 kVp, 40 mA using tube current modulation). Total dose length product was recorded in all patients. Images were reconstructed using FBP, ASIR, and MBIR. Objective image qualities (density, noise) were measured in the great vessels and heart chambers. The contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR) was calculated by measuring the density and noise of myocardial walls. Two radiologists evaluated images for subjective noise, diagnostic confidence, and sharpness at the level prior to the first branch of the main pulmonary artery. Images were compared with respect to reconstruction method, and reconstruction times were measured. Images from all patients were diagnostic, and the effective dose was 0.22 mSv. The objective image noise of MBIR was significantly lower than those of FBP and ASIR in the great vessels and heart chambers (P0.05); however, with respect to attenuations in the four chambers, ascending aorta, descending aorta, and pulmonary trunk, no statistically significant difference was observed among the three methods (P0.05). Mean CNR values were 8.73 for FBP, 14.54 for ASIR, and 22.95 for MBIR. In addition, the subjective image noise of MBIR was significantly lower than those of the others (P0.01). Furthermore, while FBP had the highest score for image sharpness, ASIR had the highest score for diagnostic confidence (P0.05), and mean reconstruction times were 5.1 ± 2.3 s for FBP and ASIR and 15.1 ± 2.4 min for MBIR. While CTA with MBIR in newborns and infants with CHD can reduce image noise and improve CNR more than other methods, it is more time-consuming than the other methods.

Potentially, diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DWI) can assess the functional information on concerning the status of tissue cellularity, because increased cellularity is associated with impeded diffusion. DWI in the hepatobiliary and pancreatic regions has demonstrated the usefulness to detect malignant lesions and differentiate them from benign lesions. However, it has been shown more recently that there is some overlap in ADC values for benign and malignant neoplasms. Moreover, some non-neoplastic lesions in the hepatobiliary and pancreatic regions exhibit restricted diffusion on DWI, because of pus, inflammation, or high cellularity. Focal eosinophilic liver disease, hepatic inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor, granulomatous liver disease, acute cholecystitis, xanthogranulomatous cholecystitis, focal pancreatitis, or autoimmune pancreatitis frequently exhibit restricted diffusion on DWI, which may be confused with malignancy in the hepatobiliary and pancreatic regions. Thus, DWI should not be interpreted in isolation, but in conjunction with other conventional images, to avoid the diagnostic pitfalls of DWI. Nevertheless, the presence of diffusion restriction in the non-neoplastic lesions sometimes provides additional information regarding the diagnosis, in problematic patients where conventional images have yielded equivocal findings. DWI may help differentiate hepatic abscess from malignant necrotic tumors, gallbladder empyema from dense bile or sludge in the gallbladder, and pylephlebitis from bland thrombosis in the portal vein. Therefore, knowledge of DWI findings to conventional imaging findings of diffusion-restricted non-neoplastic conditions in the hepatobiliary and pancreatic regions helps establishing a correct diagnosis.

We proposed triangular resonator integrated with zinc oxide (ZnO) thin film. With assumption that ZnO thin film grown by low temperature hydrothermal method was placed on the over-cladding of the triangular resonator region, the propagation characteristic was analyzed using 2-D finite-difference time-domain method as a function of refractive index change of ZnO thin film. The wavelength of resonance was shifted about 0.002 nm when the change of refractive index of zinc oxide thin film was 0.01.

To investigate the value of DWI for differentiating malignant from benign strictures in the periampullary region. We retrospectively analysed data from 78 patients who had undergone magnetic resonance cholangiopanreatography (MRCP) and diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI), in whom biliary strictures in the periampullary region were suspected. Twenty-two malignant and 56 benign lesions were included. One radiologist compared the signal intensity of malignant and benign periampullary lesions on DWI using b = 500 and 800 s/mm2. The signal intensity of bile was also compared, and an optimal b value was determined for periampullary lesions. Two other radiologists reviewed MRCP alone and combined DWI and MRCP for the possibility of malignant periampullary lesions. We report a case of transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) to treat hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) that was supplied by the short gastric artery. A 67-year-old woman with two nodular HCCs underwent repeated TACE. One of the nodules was supplied by the short gastric artery.

Ce3+ and Tb3+co-doped calcium aluminates luminescent material (Ca3Al2(OH)12: Ce3+, Tb3+) was synthesized at 453 K in hydrothermal system without any protective atmospheres. All the reactants used in the system were simple inorganic salts. The crystallinity and luminescent property of as-synthesized compound were investigated using X-ray diffraction and luminescence spectrometer. The compound formula was confirmed to be Ca3Al2(OH)12. The emission spectrum showed that only typical Tb3+ emission was observed and the emission from Ce3+ was almost not observed, which should be attributed to the energy transfer from Ce3+ to Tb3+ in the compound. The emission peaks at about 486 nm, 498 nm, 540 nm, 549 nm, 582 nm, 595 nm and 623 nm should be assigned to 5D4-7F6, 5D4-7F5, 5D4-7F4, and 5D4-7F3 transitions of Tb3+ ions. The weak emission peak at about 380 nm should be assigned to the emission of Ce3+ ions in the compound.

A new 3-dimensional zinc carbonate Zn(NH3)CO3 has been synthesized from a glycol system with urea and zinc acetate as raw materials. The crystal structure and photoluminescent properties have been investigated using X-ray diffraction, smart CCD and FL. The compound had an orthorhombic system with space group of Pna21 with M = 142.41, a = 9.1449(18) Å, b = 7.5963(15) Å, c = 5.4982(11) Å, V = 381.95(13) Å3, Z = 4, R = 0.0285 and RW = 0.0745. The NH3 and CO32- were connected through the Zn-N bond and Zn-O bond in the symmetric unit. Photoluminescent property was observed in the compound at room temperature and the exited and emission peaks were located at about 350 nm and 426 nm, respectively.
