New uses of sodium, potassium, NaK, lithium, rubidium, and cesium have required further knowledge of effective extinguishing agents to handle fires involving these materials. The effectiveness of inert gas blanketing and oxygen partial pressures was evaluated. Met-L-X and TEC powder (a ternary eutectic compound developed in England) were found to be the most effective agents for all but lithium, where graphite is preferred.
