2,2,2-Trimethoxy-3-isopropyl-4-bromo-5-oxo-1,5,2-oxazaphosphol-4-ene was isolated when trimethyl phosphite is reacted with 1-bromo-1-nitro-3-methyl-1-butene, and some of its transformations were studied.

The reactions of theβ-chloroethyl derivatives of trivalent phosphorus acids proceed via an ionic intermediate, which, depending on the experimental conditions, is stabilized in the direction of ring closure to give an adduct with a pentacovalent phosphorus atom and the formation of the corresponding unsaturated and (α-methyl-β-nitroethyl)phosphoryl compounds. The liberatedβ-chloroethyl nitrite functions as an oxidizing agent of the startingβ-chloroethyl derivatives of trivalent phosphorus acids.
