Background Although proximal femoral nail anti-rotation (PFNA) and bipolar hemiarthroplasty (BHA) are selected by most of the orthopaedic surgeons for elderly intertrochanteric fractures (ITFs) patients, there is still no consensus on the superiority of PFNA and BPH for the elderly with unstable comminuted ITFs. The study aims to compare the curative effects of PFNA and cementless BHA on unstable comminuted ITFs in the elderly. Methods From January 2012 to December 2016, we retrospectively reviewed 62 ITFs patients up to the inclusion and exclusion criteria in the study. Depending on the type of surgery, the patients were divided into two groups: Group BHA (n= 30) and Group PFNA (n = 32). The ITFs were classified according to Evans-Jensen. Hospitalization time, operation time, bleeding loss, weight bearing duration, Harris hip scores, 10-m walking speed, gait and postoperative complications were compared between the two groups. Results There was no significant difference between the groups in hospital stay (P > 0.05). The BHA group trended to have a shorter operation time and a larger volume of blood loss (P P P P > 0.05). There was no significant difference in postoperative complications between the two groups (P > 0.05). Conclusion The BHA allows an earlier return to weight-bearing activity, but ultimately has the same effective treatments as the PFNA for the elderly with unstable comminuted ITFs.

This experiment was performed in order to investigate the effects of chitosan-Zn chelate (CS-Zn) on activities of antioxidant enzymes and immune function in weaned piglets. One hundred and twenty weaned piglets (Duroc × Landrace × Yorkshire) with 7.12 ± 0.25 kg body weight were allotted to four treatments. A basal diet without Zn supplementation was used as control group. The other three treatments were fed the control diet supplemented with 100 mg/kg Zn as ZnSO4, 100 mg/kg Zn as CS-Zn, 100 mg/kg Zn as ZnSO4 and chitosan (the content of chitosan was the same as that of CS-Zn), respectively. The feeding trial lasted 30 days. Spleen index of pigs fed dietary CS-Zn was higher (p0.05) than that of control pigs. Thymus index and lymph node index did not differ among the pigs fed any diets (p0.05). T-AOC levels, Cu-ZnSOD, and GSH-PX activities in serum or liver of the pigs receiving CS-Zn diet were higher than those of the pigs fed CS+ZnSO4 or ZnSO4 diets (p0.05). These pigs fed dietary CS-Zn also showed lower MDA content in liver compared with the pigs fed other diets (p0.05). Serum IgA, complement 3, and complement 4 levels of pig fed dietary CS-Zn was higher than those of the pigs fed other diets (p0.05). Supplemental dietary Zn did not change serum IgG and IgM levels (p0.05). The ALP activity of pigs fed dietary CS-Zn was higher than those of the pigs fed other three diets (p0.05). No significant differences were founded in serum GOT or GPT activities of pigs fed dietary Zn (p0.05). The results of the present study indicated that chitosan-Zn chelate could increase antioxidant capacity and improve immune function in weaned piglets compared with ZnSO4 or chitosan.

According to the analysis related to kinetic mechanism of vacuum denitrogenation and combining with the actual production of RH-MFB (a combination of Ruhstahl-Hausen vacuum degassing process with a multifunctional oxygen lance) at Liansteel, the limit step and model equation of vacuum denitrogenation are determined. Meanwhile, the influencing factors of nitrogen removal from liquid steel in vacuum of RH-MFB are analyzed. The results show that the limit step of vacuum denitrogenation in RH-MFB is the mass transfer of nitrogen in liquid boundary layer and the reaction follows first order kinetics. Keeping the necessary circulation time under the working pressure (67 Pa) is helpful to nitrogen removal from steel. The oxygen content in molten steel has little influence on the removal of nitrogen after deep deoxidation, while the sulphur content in liquid steel is always relatively low and has little effect on denitrogenation. The sharp decrease of carbon content in steel drives the process of denitrogenation reaction so as to exhibit a faster denitrogenation rate. The interfacial chemical reaction and argon blowing play a major role in the nitrogen removal when the carbon content in liquid steel is stable.

Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is characterized by its clinical and biological heterogeneity. Although the International Prognostic Index (IPI) provides a clinical model for risk stratification of patients with DLBCL, notable variability in outcome is still observed within the same IPI category. Tumor-infiltrating macrophages (also called Tumor-associated macrophages) are the major component in the microenvironment of DLBCL. Their correlation with the prognosis of DLBCL remains controversial. Using a CD68 antibody in immunohistochemical analysis, we studied the expression of CD68 in 112 Chinese patients with DLBCL, with 65 patients (58%) categorized as low CD68 expression and 47 patients (42%) as high CD68 expression. The complete response (CR) rate of patients with low CD68 expression was higher than that with high CD68 expression (66.1% vs. 51.6%), but there was no statistical significance (P = 0.060). The median survival time of patients with low CD68 expression was not achieved and that of high expression was 41 months (P = 0.029). The results suggest that higher expression of CD68 tended to yield poor treatment outcome of DLBCL.

In the last two decades, China has become one of the areas that have the greatest potential in industrial production, thus it has ranked second only to USA in the flow of international capital. By the end of 1998, the real value of FDI (Foreign Direct Investment) in China has utilized has added up to $268.1 billion. The big flow of FDI has not only promoted the development of social economy, but also worsened the existing regional difference by choosing spatial location. Under this circumstance, China’s economy faces new restrictions and opportunities while adjusting its regional structure and industrial structure. So it is more and more important for us how to seize the opportunity, to seek the regularity of FDI in choosing location from the aspect of space, to set up relevant strategy to direct FDI at inland regions (areas deficient of capital), and to make appropriate policies, esp. the industrial and regional policies so as for FDI to exert positive influence and avoid negative influence on China and its regional economy and society. Based on the latest domestic and overseas materials and data of the FDI in China, combining with the investigation of the enterprises, this paper has systematically revealed the progress of development of the FDI in China and the developing conditions of the main enterprises directly invested by foreign capital since the reform and opening-up in China. The characters of FDI such as spatial concentration, transference as time goes on, change of the technical content and up-gradation of industrial structure and their forming mechanism have been studied. Then the basic conclusions have been made as follows. Firstly, FDI has been highly concentrated in space. But as time goes by, it has been transferring from coastal regions to inland ones, from big cities to their surrounding districts, and the degree of concentration is decreasing. Secondly, the technical content of the invested projects has gradually increased and the up-gradation of the industrial structure is obvious. Thirdly, the regional choice of the FDI in China is mainly affected by labor and other productive factors. The relative change of the cost of productive factors in different regions since the reform and opening-up is one of the main factors that have caused the spatial transference of the FDI in China. Fourthly, as people’s income increases and the accumulation of the capacity of the technique and labor advances, FDI whose aim is to get more market has increased and tended to transfer from coastal regions to inland ones. Fifthly, the changes of the industrial structure of the main areas and countries who have directly invested in China and the changes of inter-regional industries and regional policies in China are also the important factors that affect the industries directly invested by foreign capital and their spatial transference.

The role of (18)Fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) in extranodal natural killer/T-cell lymphoma (ENKL) is not well established. This study aimed to investigate the prognostic role of the pretreatment maximum standardized uptake value (SUV(max)) on PET/CT in patients with newly diagnosed ENKL. Among 364 consecutive patients with newly diagnosed ENKL, 81 patients were included and reviewed. The impact of SUV(max) on survival and the relationship between SUV(max) and other clinicopathological parameters were analyzed. The median SUV(max) was 14.6 (range 2.0-45.4). The optimal cutoff value of SUV(max) to predict overall survival (OS) was 15. Patients with high SUV(max) (SUVmax15) were associated with bulky disease (P0.001), local invasion (P = 0.030), high score of Korean Prognostic Index (KPI, P = 0.046), resistance to primary treatment (P = 0.014), poor OS (P0.001), and unfavorable progression-free survival (P0.001). With a median follow-up of 25.0 months, the median OS was 63.0 months (range 2.0-99.0 months). Multivariate analyses revealed the following independent prognostic factors for OS: age60 years (P = 0.001), stage III-IV (P = 0.023), SUV(max)15 (P = 0.020), and bulky disease (5 cm) (P = 0.002). By using the SUV(max), patients in most subgroups stratified by the KPI or the International Prognostic Index (IPI) were further discriminated in OS with significant statistical difference. Our results suggest the pretreatment SUV(max) is predictive of prognosis in patients with newly diagnosed ENKL. The SUV(max) may provide additional prognostic information for IPI and KPI.

The combination of gemcitabine (G), vinorelbine (V), and pegylated liposomal doxorubicin (D) has proved to be effective in relapsed Hodgkin's lymphoma (HL). Its efficacy in non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) remains to be discussed. We retrospectively evaluated the efficacy and toxicity of the dose-adjusted gemcitabine, vinorelbine, liposomal doxorubicin (GVD) in 14-day schedule in 35 heavily pretreated patients with relapsed and refractory aggressive NHL or HL. Treatment consisted of G: 800 mg/m(2) intravenous (i.v.) on day 1, V: 15 mg/m(2) i.v. on day 1; D: 20 mg/m(2) i.v. on day 1, repeated for 14 days. Patients responded to GVD proceeded to subsequent autologous stem cell transplantation. The objective response rate (ORR) was 48.6 %, with 31.4 % complete remission. A higher ORR was observed in patients with HL than in patients with NHL (80.0 vs. 36.0 %, P = 0.023). With a median follow-up of 26 months, the estimated median progression-free survival and overall survival were 5 (range 1-73 months) and 36 months (range 2-73 months), respectively. The estimated 5-year survival rate was 44.6 % (95 % confidence interval 28.1-61.1 %). Toxicities were mild (grade 3/4 neutropenia 34.3 %, thrombocytopenia 5.7 %). Our results suggest that the dose-adjusted GVD in 14-day schedule is effective and well tolerated in patients with refractory and relapsed HL and aggressive NHL. The potential long-term survival in NHL is promising.

Biosynthesis of liquid fuels and biomass-based building block chemicals from microorganisms have been regarded as a competitive alternative route to traditional. Zymomonas mobilis possesses a number of desirable characteristics for its special Entner-Doudoroff pathway, which makes it an ideal platform for both metabolic engineering and commercial-scale production of desirable bio-products as the same as Escherichia coli and Saccharomyces cerevisiae based on consideration of future biomass biorefinery. Z. mobilis has been studied extensively on both fundamental and applied level, which will provide a basis for industrial biotechnology in the future. Furthermore, metabolic engineering of Z. mobilis for enhancing bio-ethanol production from biomass resources has been significantly promoted by different methods (i.e. mutagenesis, adaptive laboratory evolution, specific gene knock-out, and metabolic engineering). In addition, the feasibility of representative metabolites, i.e. sorbitol, bionic acid, levan, succinic acid, isobutanol, and isobutanol produced by Z. mobilis and the strategies for strain improvements are also discussed or highlighted in this paper. Moreover, this review will present some guidelines for future developments in the bio-based chemical production using Z. mobilis as a novel industrial platform for future biofineries.
