Abstract

International audience; In this paper we address the problem of computing suitable representations of the set of approximate solutions of a given multi-objective optimization problem via stochastic search algorithms. For this, we will propose different archiving strategies for the selection of the candidate solutions maintained by the generation process of the stochastic search process, and investigate them further on analytically and empirically. For all archivers we will provide upper bounds on the approximation quality as well as on the cardinality of the limit solution set. We conclude this work by a comparative study on some test problems in order to visualize the effect of all novel archiving strategies.

Abstract

In this paper, we investigate a multi-objective optimal design of a tuned vibration absorber for a two degrees-of-freedom linear system, in which we take white Gaussian noise as the excitation. We use the simple cell mapping method to obtain solutions to the multi-objective optimization problem. We optimize tuned vibration absorbers in two different configurations. As our objective, we take various features of the response of the power spectrum density function. Our results show that the primary mass vibration with the optimally designed absorber has a lower peak power spectrum value. In addition, the two natural frequencies of the optimized system are further apart than in the non-optimized system, which implies that the absorber has a wider effective region in the frequency domain.

Abstract

A multi-objective optimization of non-uniform beams is presented for minimum radiated sound power and weight. The transfer matrix method is used to compute the structural and acoustic responses of a non-uniform beam accurately and efficiently. The multi-objective particle swarm optimization technique is applied to search the Pareto optimal solutions that represent various compromises between weight and sound radiation. Several constraints are imposed, which substantially reduce the volume fraction of feasible solutions in the design space. Two non-uniform beams with different boundary conditions are studied to demonstrate the multi-objective optimal designs of the structure.

Abstract

A hybrid method is proposed to take advantages of evolutionary algorithms (EAs) and the simple cell mapping (SCM) for multi-objective optimization problems (MOPs). The hybrid method starts with a random search for Pareto optimal solutions with an EA, and follows up with a neighborhood based search and recovery algorithm using the SCM. The non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm-II (NSGA-II) is used as an example of EAs. It is found that the SCM based search and recovery algorithm can reconstruct the branches of the Pareto set even when only one point in the vicinity of the set is available from the random search by the EA. We have chosen several benchmark MOPs to compare NSGA-II and SCM separately with the EA $$+$$ SCM hybrid method while using the Hausdorff distance as a performance metric, and applied the method to develop multi-objective optimal designs of PID controls for a nonlinear oscillator with time delay. The results show that the EA $$+$$ SCM hybrid method is very promising.

Abstract

This paper presents a numerical algorithm tuning aircraft landing gear control system with three objectives, including reducing relative vibration, reducing hydraulic strut force and controlling energy consumption. Sliding mode control is applied to the vibration control of a simplified landing gear model with uncertainty. A two-stage generalized cell mapping algorithm is applied to search the Pareto set with gradient-free scheme. Drop test simulations over uneven runway show that the vibration and force interaction can be considerably reduced, and the Pareto optimum form a tight range in time domain.

Abstract

The hot deformation characteristics of Rene88DT superalloy with directionally solidified microstructure produced by electroslag remelting continuous directionally solidification (ESR-CDS®) were studied in the temperature range of 1,040–1,140 °C and strain rate range of 0.001–1.000 s−1 by hot compression tests. Flow curves for Rene88DT alloy with initial directionally solidified (DS) microstructure exhibit pronounced peak stresses at the early stage of deformation followed by the occurrence of dynamic softening phenomenon. Rene88DT alloy with DS microstructure shows higher flow peak stresses compared with HIPed P/M superalloy FGH4096, but the disparities in peak stresses between ESR-CDSed Rene88DT and HIPed P/M superalloy FGH4096 reduce as temperature increases. The improvement of hot workability of DS alloy with columnar grains avoiding the maximum shear stress comes true. A hot deformation constitutive equation as a function of strain that describes the dependence of flow stress on strain rate and temperature is established. Hot deformation apparent activation energy (Q) varies not only with the strain rate and temperature but also with strain. The strain rate sensitivity exponent (m) map is established at the strain of 0.8, which reveals that global dynamic recrystallization (DRX) shows a relatively high m value in a large strain compression. Optimum parameters are predicted in two regions: T = 1,100–1,130 °C, $${\dot{\varepsilon}}$$ = 0.100–1.000 s−1 and T = 1,080–1,100 °C, $${\dot{\varepsilon}}$$ = 0.010–0.100 s−1, which is based on processing maps and deformation microstructure observations.

Abstract

Doped polyaniline films were prepared with electrochemistry method. A small conjugated molecule, anthracenecarboxylic acid (2-ACA), was used as the dopant, considering its electrical activeness due to the conjugated π-π* structure. Film morphology of doped and undoped polyaniline samples was investigated. The corresponding changes in optical and electrical properties after ACA doping were discussed. By measuring and calculating their energy level distribution, a promising application of polyaniline thin films as buffer layer in optic-electric devices is expectable.
