Abstract

Obesity is an important independent risk factor for cardiovascular diseases, remaining an important health concern worldwide. Evidence shows that saturated fatty acid-induced inflammation in cardiomyocytes contributes to obesity-related cardiomyopathy. Dapagliflozin (Dapa), a selective SGLT2 inhibitor, exerts a favorable preventive activity in heart failure. In this study, we investigated the protective effect of Dapa against cardiomyopathy caused by high fat diet-induced obesity in vitro and in vivo. Cultured rat cardiomyocyte H9c2 cells were pretreated with Dapa (1, 2.5 μM) for 1.5 h, followed by treatment with palmitic acid (PA, 200 μM) for 24 h. We showed that Dapa pretreatment concentration-dependently attenuated PA-induced cell hypertrophy, fibrosis and apoptosis. Transcriptome analysis revealed that inhibition of PA-activated MAPK/AP-1 pathway contributed to the protective effect of Dapa in H9c2 cells, and this was confirmed by anti-p-cJUN fluorescence staining assay. Using surface plasmon resonance analysis we found the direct binding of Dapa with NHE1. Gain and loss of function experiments further demonstrated the role of NHE1 in the protection of Dapa. Abstract

A piezoelectric driving method for rover vehicles is proposed in this paper. Employing this method, a tracked vehicle driven by friction forces from a frame mounted with piezoelectric elements was developed. The vehicle is designed with no driver sprocket, no idler-wheel and no supporting bogie wheels, and the vehicle thus requires no lubrication and has potential application in planetary exploration. The frame consists of a pair of piezoelectric transducers. Each transducer comprises four annular parts jointed by beams adhered with piezoelectric ceramics. The tracks are set to the outer surface of the annular parts by means of track tension. Traveling rotating waves are generated by piezoelectric transducers in the annular parts, which generate microscopic elliptical motions at the interface of the tracks. The microscopic elliptical motions from the piezoelectric transducers drive the track vehicle to move. Finite elements analysis was carried out to verify the operation principle using commercial software ANSYS. Piezoelectric transducers were fabricated, assembled and tested to validate the concepts of the proposed rover vehicle and confirm the simulation results. A prototype vehicle with mass of 0.57 kg moves at a speed of 4.3 mm/s at a driving voltage of 250 V and operating frequency of 65.53 kHz.

Abstract

Most ultrasonic motors operate in intermittent contact scheme. Their stators drive the rotors (or sliders) when the stators contact the rotors, and the rotors (or sliders) move under an inertia force when the stators and the rotors are separated. The duty cycle of the contact and the “flight” manages motors’ output performance. To obtain a large output force or output velocity, this paper proposes a concept using the alternative work of a multistator or the multi-driving end of a single stator. The method can avoid larger noise, poor efficiency, and lifetime of motors. A novel linear ultrasonic motor using the alternative work of the multi-driving end of a single stator was fabricated and investigated experimentally. The traveling speed without load of the slider is 88 mm/s, and the maximum load is 0.32 N.

Abstract

To probe the organic constituents of over 2000-year-preserved Populus euphratica found in an ancient tomb, a chemical investigation was undertaken, which led to the isolation of a new compound, 2-(4′-hydroxy-3′-methoxyphenyl)-2-oxoacetamide (1), together with 12 known compounds (2–13) by column chromatography. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic evidence. It is the first time that compounds 2–13 were isolated from this plant.

Abstract

A new kind of functionally graded materials (FGM) with density gradient has come to show great potentials as flier-plates for creating quasi-isotropic compression waves. In order to meet the demand of lower density in the front face for such flier-plate, Mg with a low density of 1.74 g/cm3 is selected to make a Mg−Ti FGM. Mg−Ti alloys with various weight ratios were sintered by spark plasma sintering (SPS) technique at relative low temperatures, and the processing of densification is mainly investigated. It is found that, up to 75wt% Ti, the Mg−Ti alloys can be fully densified at 560°C due to the conglutination of Mg and the formation of a small amount of Mg−Ti solid solution. Finally, the Mg−Ti FGM with a density gradient from 1.74 g/cm3 to 3.23 g/cm3 is successfully fabricated.

Abstract

This Paper investigates the bending behavior of piezoelectric laminates under combined mechanical and electrical loading. The laminate has a PZT - 5H ceramic core sandwiched by graphite/epoxy plates. Three-point bending tests and in-situ acoustic emission measurements were conducted on the PZT-5H laminates preloaded by an applied electric field. The results show that the PZT-5H core fractures first and then delaminaton occurs along the tensile stressed interface between the PZT ceremic and the graphite/epoxy layer. Finite element analysis was performed to analyze stresses in the sandwich structure under combined mechanical and electrical loading. Consequently, the bending strength of the PZT core was evaluated from the experiment data. The electric field, either positive or negative, reduces the fracture strength of the pzt core.

Abstract

The present work investigates the effects of a passive film formed during stress corrosion cracking on ductile/brittle fracture behavior, considering the interaction of a dislocation with a thin- film-covered crack under an applied remote load. The dislocation emission from the thin-film- covered crack tip is analyzed, on the basis of the two-dimensional Rice-Thomson model, for screw and edge dislocations. The results show that the nominally critical stress intensity factor for dislocation emission is related to the thin film thickness, the properties of the film and the loading conditions. For a given loading mode and a given crack length, there exists a critical value of the film thickness at which the film does not influence the dislocation emission. When the film thickness is smaller than the critical value, a harder thin film makes the dislocation emission easier and a softer film makes the dislocation emission more difficult. The opposite is also true if the film thickness is larger than the critical value.
