One of the most important problems in traffic management is evaluating the amount of traffic and the velocity of vehicles passing through transportation ways and main streets. In this study, the traffic load is measured, and the speed of cars is estimated using the 24 GHz FMCW radar. In this process, an antenna is installed to record all the targets from the side of the highway. Next, the moving vehicles are classified according to their type, based on which the traffic load is provided to the user in each highway lane. Due to the radial velocity, low Doppler frequency, and variability with time, some challenges will emerge, for which two solutions will be provided. This paper describes the speed of cars and the amount of congestion in each highway lane presented by two new methods. Low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites have the potential to provide positioning, navigation and timing services in the future and are attracting widespread attention from researchers. However, due to rapid movements and a large number of LEO satellites, directly adopting the traditional code division multiple access (CDMA) method in the LEO mega-constellation navigation system will introduce a high computational complexity to the signal acquisition process of receivers and make the acquisition time much longer if receivers are in case of a cold start without assistance data. To decrease the acquisition complexity, we propose a new Doppler frequency code division multiple access (DFCDMA) method for LEO mega-constellation navigation systems. In this method, navigation signals broadcast by satellites in the same orbital plane are modulated with the same pseudorandom noise (PRN) code, while navigation signals broadcast by satellites in different orbital planes are modulated with distinct PRN codes. Through theoretical analysis and simulation, it is shown that satellites in the same orbital plane can achieve multiple access only by Doppler frequency at any position on the ground if the receiver velocity is less than 500 m/s. Therefore, low-speed receivers can distinguish LEO navigation signals by multiple combinations of different Doppler frequencies and PRN codes acquired. The results show that DFCDMA can achieve a fast acquisition and significantly shorten the acquisition time with similar acquisition sensitivity compared to CDMA in case of a cold start. Compared with the Doppler frequency code phase division multiple access (DFCP-DMA), DFCDMA has higher availability in the case of LEO mega-constellations and multipath environments. This paper proposes a full-rate space-time code selection technique for multiple transmitter antenna diversity systems. The technique uses orthogonal space-time codes for transmitting with two antennas and a quasi-orthogonal space-time code when transmitting with four antennas. We selected the space-time code and the transmitter antennas by comparing the equivalent SISO channels with a set of predetermined threshold levels, found off-line as a function of the Doppler frequency. It is an important development direction to take advantage of low-earth-orbit (LEO) satellites by establishing a LEO satellite navigation system as a supplement to Global Navigation Satellite Systems in the future. On account of the fast motion of LEO satellites, there is a significant and fast change in the Doppler frequency of LEO navigation signals. Since a LEO navigation system usually consists of a large number of satellites, the search range of carrier frequencies and satellite numbers is correspondingly large in the signal acquisition process. Adopting the traditional code division multiple access (CDMA) technique will bring extremely high computational complexity to the acquisition process of LEO navigation signals, which leads to a much longer acquisition time. Considering the characteristics of LEO navigation signals, we proposed a Doppler Frequency-Code Phase Division Multiple Access (DFCP-DMA) technique in order to achieve a fast acquisition of LEO navigation signals. Because the motion of LEO satellites is fast, Doppler frequencies and code phases of LEO navigation signals arriving at the receiver differ significantly. Thus, receivers can distinguish LEO navigation signals by multiple combinations of different Doppler frequencies and code phases acquired. To decrease the acquisition complexity, all LEO satellites broadcast spread-spectrum navigation signals modulated by the same spreading code in DFCP-DMA, and receivers can acquire all navigation signals using only this spreading code. Theoretical analysis and simulation results show that, compared with CDMA, DFCP-DMA can significantly reduce the acquisition complexity without any loss in the acquisition sensitivity, which can shorten the acquisition time to 1/M, where M is the number of satellites. Values for Doppler center frequency are calculated from the echo signal at the satellite using the Doppler centroid method and so include the predicted Doppler frequency caused by the relative motion of the satellite and the Earth, which is the main component of Doppler center frequency and must be removed to obtain the Doppler frequency anomaly for ocean current measurement. In this paper, a new Doppler frequency anomaly algorithm was proposed when measuring surface currents with synthetic aperture radar (SAR). The key of the proposed algorithm involved mean filtering method in the range direction and linear fitting in the azimuth direction to remove the radial and the azimuthal component of predicted Doppler frequency from the Doppler center frequency, respectively. The basis is that the theoretical Doppler center frequency model of SAR exhibits an approximately linear characteristic in both the range direction and in the azimuth direction. With the help of the new algorithm for predicted Doppler frequency removal, the estimation error of Doppler frequency anomaly can be reduced by avoiding employing the theoretical antenna pattern and imperfect satellite attitude parameters in the conventional Doppler frequency method. SAR measurement results demonstrated that, compared to the conventional Doppler frequency with/without error correction method, the proposed algorithm allows for a pronounced improvement in the current measuring accuracy in comparison with the global ocean multi-observation (MOB) products. Ocean currents are a key element in ocean processes and in meteorology, affecting material transport and modulating climate change patterns. The Doppler frequency shift information of the synthetic aperture radar (SAR) echo signal can reflect the dynamic characteristics of the sea surface, and has become an essential sea surface dynamic remote sensing parameter. Studies have verified that the instantaneous Doppler frequency shift can realize the SAR detection of the sea surface current. However, the validation of SAR-derived ocean current data and a thorough analysis of the errors associated with them remain lacking. In this study, we derive high spatial resolution flow measurements for the Kuroshio in the East China Sea from SAR data using a theoretical model of shifts in Doppler frequency driven by ocean surface current. Global ocean multi observation (MOB) products and global surface Lagrangian drifter (GLD) data are used to validate the Kuroshio flow retrieved from the SAR data. Results show that the central flow velocity for the Kuroshio derived from the SAR is 0.4–1.5 m/s. The error distribution between SAR ocean currents and MOB products is an approximate standard normal distribution, with the 90% confidence interval concentrated between −0.1 m/s and 0.1 m/s. Comparative analysis of SAR ocean current and GLD products, the correlation coefficient is 0.803, which shows to be significant at a confidence level of 99%. The cross-validation of different ocean current dataset illustrate that the SAR radial current captures the positions and dynamics of the Kuroshio central flow and the Kuroshio Counter Current, and has the capability to monitor current velocity over a wide range of values. Direct position determination (DPD) methods are known to outperform classical two-step localization methods under the condition of low signal-to-noise ratios and/or small number of snapshots. Additionally, they can directly exploit the prior knowledge of signal waveforms to achieve higher estimation accuracy. In this paper, we concentrate on the DPD method for locating multiple constant modulus (CM) sources based on a single moving receiving station. Both direction of arrival and Doppler frequency shift are used for source localization. First, a received array signal model with a small time delay that can incorporate the Doppler frequency information is formed. Subsequently, the corresponding maximum likelihood estimation criterion is established. An effective alternating minimization algorithm is developed to solve the optimization problem. Subsequently, we also derive the Cramér–Rao bound expressions for parameter estimation. It is proved that the CM property of the signals is useful in reducing the lower bound for location estimation. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method is asymptotically efficient. Moreover, it is also shown that the estimation accuracy of direct localization can be greatly increased if the CM characteristics of the radiated signals are adequately exploited. In this paper, a high-rate space-time block-coded (STBC) mobile communication system using imperfect channel-state-information (CSI) is presented, which is working over the time-selective flat-fading wireless channels. In the work, a flat-fading channel is modelled as a first-order Markov-process, taking into account Doppler shifts and carrier frequency offsets. The STBC data-rate 5/4 with two-transmitter antennas is attained by maximizing the coding gain and by minimizing the transmitted signal peak-to-minimum-power-ratio, while using the selective power scaling in combination with quadrature-phase-shift-keying digital modulation technique. The time-selective nature of underlying channel leads to reduction in the diversity gain, though optimum power scaling factor is incorporated. However, imperfect CSI usually arises due to the availability of noisy channel estimates at the receiver, which causes system performance degradation. Simulation results are presented to illustrate that the effective throughput in terms of frame-error-rate or symbol-error-rate of the presented data-rate 54 STBC system is adversely affected because of the noisy channel estimates. But, an efficient channel estimator helps in combating the time-selectivity of channel, and in turn results in effective throughput improvement under the high signal-to-noise-ratio (SNR) conditions only. Subsequently, the data-rate 98 STBC system with four-transmitter antennas is explored using similar strategy working over the time-nonselective (time-varying) flat-fading channels, which performs well under the high SNR and low channel estimation noise/error conditions. An algorithm based on sparse representation for joint angle and Doppler frequency estimation in multiple-input multiple-output radar is proposed. Through the data reconstruction, the algorithm only requires the dictionary for one-dimensional angle [e.g. direction of departure (DOD)], which reduces the computational complexity compared to conventional method using dictionary for two-dimensional angle. The DOD can be estimated by finding the non-zero rows in the recovered matrix, which also contains the information of the direction of arrival (DOA) and the Doppler frequency, and they can be achieved via singular value decomposition and least squares (LS) principle. The estimated DOD, DOA and Doppler frequency can be automatically paired and the parameter estimation performance of the proposed algorithm is better than that of estimation of signal parameters via rotational invariance techniques (ESPRIT)-based algorithm and parallel factor (PARAFAC) method. Furthermore, the proposed algorithm requires no knowledge of the number of targets and works well for coherent targets. Simulation results verify the effectiveness of the algorithm. The pulse phase and doppler frequency estimation of X-ray pulsars in dynamic situations and its application in navigation is a problem that has not been fully investigated. In this paper, solutions are proposed to solve this problem under conditions of spacecraft and binary motion. A high-precision doppler frequency (velocity) measurement model as well as a phase (range) measurement model is established. The averaged maximum-likelihood estimator is developed for the dynamic pulse phase estimation. The pulse phase tracking technique is used in the doppler frequency determination. The tracking filter is redesigned and compared with the existing algorithms. The comparison verifies the advantage of the filter algorithm presented in this paper. Unlike traditional views, it is found that in dynamic situations, shorter observation interval lengths will result in higher-accuracy phase and frequency estimates as the tracking filter outputs. A photon-level integrated numerical simulation is performed. Simulation results testify to the validity of the proposed phase and doppler frequency estimation scheme, and show that incorporation of velocity measurements as well as the range ones into the navigation estimator will improve the navigation steady-state performance. The designing of a continuous wave radar (CW) intended for remote counting of traffic (remote traffic counter) and speed measurement of vehicles using speed trajectories in the radar beam for long-range transferring of these data is considered. It was experimentally shown that, for recording the current number of vehicles and measuring the speed of each of them in both traffic directions, it is more expedient to use a CW radar rather than an FMCW radar (frequency modulation continuous wave radar). A CW radar is more immune to noises of the receiver and the interferences formed due to the offset of the phase and amplitudes at quadrature outputs of the IQ mixer, the lateral lobes of the antenna directivity diagram, and interfering reflections from low Doppler and stationary targets. The circuit and the signal processing software for the CW radar have been developed. In this article, we propose a time-spreaded quasi-orthogonal space-frequency coded OFDM system with constellation rotation. A constellation rotated quasi-orthogonal OFDM system could offer full rate and full diversity in a frequency selective fading channel. Time spreading can give additional time diversity gain in a fast fading channel. Assuming that complex channel gains between adjacent subcarriers are approximately equal, we develop a coding scheme for 4 × 1 MISO transceiver and its BER performance is evaluated for different Doppler frequencies in an OFDM system. The simulation results show that 2 dB gain can be achieved at BER of 10 using the proposed scheme compared to a scheme without time spreading and constellation rotation when 512 subcarriers are used at maximum Doppler frequency of 300 Hz. Also, the proposed system is analyzed for different delay spread of the channel and the results show that if adjacent subcarriers are correlated, it is better in SF-OFDM decoding. Instantaneous real-time kinematic (RTK) techniques are one approach to achieving real-time high-accuracy positioning. The object of this paper is to show the advantage of adding velocity information to instantaneous RTK positioning. In this paper, velocity from Doppler frequency measurements is used to help resolve integer ambiguities in the LAMBDA method. In urban areas, pseudorange measurements can suffer from significant errors due to strong multipath, despite the use of advanced multipath-mitigation techniques. However, Doppler frequency measurements do not deteriorate as much as pseudoranges, because the multipath error on Doppler frequency measurements is only in the range of several centimeters. Our proposed method has been tested by both static and moving users in sub-urban environments. In this paper, a millimeter-wave sensor is presented for measurement of displacement and velocity. By using monolithic microwave integrated circuits and digital quadrature sampling signal-processing scheme, the sensor operating at 60 GHz is implemented. Polynomial curve-fitting technique is used for the error correction. Digital quadrature mixer is also configured as a phase-detecting processor, which enables low Doppler frequency to be measured with high resolution. Measured displacement results indicate resolution and maximum error of 10 μm and 30 μm, respectively, and measured speed is as low as 30 mm/s, corresponding to 6.6 Hz in Doppler frequency, with an estimated velocity resolution of 3.3 mm/s. Instantaneous Doppler frequency for squint SAR imaging has been found with Chirp Scaling Algorithm (CSA). Because the azimuth sample is not perpendicular to the range sample, the range signal must impact on the azimuth signal in the squint SAR data processing, and the different slant range targets have different Doppler frequencies. From the mathematical model of SAR echo signal, this paper carefully analyzes the instantaneous azimuth frequency, the instantaneous Doppler frequency component of the azimuth frequency and the impact of range chirp on azimuth frequency, which explains that Doppler frequency should be properly selected for correct SAR imaging in the squint SAR. The results of point target simulation experiments show that the way is reasonable for the squint SAR and can effectively complete range compression and azimuth focusing, and improve images’ quality. new direction finding (DF) method, in which the high-accuracy measuring can be realized only with single baseline, is presented used for airborne based on Doppler-phase measurement. The analysis discovers that the integer of wavelength in radial distance can be directly derived compositely, making use of the velocity vector equation and Doppler shift, as well as Doppler changing rate equation. From this, the integer difference of wavelength in path length difference of radial distance between two adjacent antenna elements can be obtained. As soon as the value less than a wavelength in path length difference is determined by phase difference measurement, the direction angle of target can be obtained. As compared with now existing interferometry first determining phase difference, this sort of direction finding method combining Doppler with phase difference first by determining path length difference does not have phase ambiguity nor require restricting base length. By simple mathematical identity transformation, we can prove that the equation derived in this paper is equivalent to an existing one from phase interferometry.
