We give compact formulae of the Lagrange interpolation polynomials and cubature formulae based on the common zeros of product Chebyshev polynomials of the second kind. Further, for 0 < p ≤ 2 , we study the mean convergence of the Lagrange interpolation polynomials. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We obtained several epochs of light minima and a complete R light curve of the W-type contact binary V1128 Tau in 2009. Two cool spots on the massive component are used to model the photometric light curve. Using all available data we find evidence for a long-term period variation with an amplitude of 0.0050±0.0012 days and a period of 16.7±0.9 years. Using parameters derived from a photometric model of the 2009 light curve we show that this period change could be explained by the Applegate mechanism on one of the components. To understand the properties of orbital period changes of four short period sdB-type eclipsing binaries, HW Vir, HS 0705 + 6700, HS 2231 + 2441, and NSVS 14256825, we have monitored them photometrically since 2006. Apart from HW Vir, it is found that the O-C diagrams of HS 0705 + 6700 and HS 2231 + 2441 can also be described by a cyclic variation superimposed on a downward parabolic curve, indicating a long-term period decrease in the two systems. Therefore, of the four binary systems, long-term period variations have been detected for three ones that can be explained by magnetic braking of the fully convective component stars. This may drive these systems to evolution into normal cataclysmic variables. As for the cyclic period variations observed in the four systems, the light-travel time effect via the presence of a tertiary component is the most possible mechanism to interpret the periodic change, which reveals the presence of extremely low-mass objects (e.g., brown dwarf stars and huge planets) in this kind of binaries. A first measurement of single target spin asymmetry (SSA) from semi-inclusive electroproduction of charged pions from a transversely polarized 3He target in deep-inelastic-scattering kinematics will take data in Hall A at Jefferson Lab in 2008. Such SSA will allow for an extraction of the much desired information on the Collins and Sivers asymmetry from the “neutron” in order to probe the quark transversity distributions. The experiment will be a coincidence measurement with the BigBite spectrometer detecting the scattered electrons and the left-arm HRS spectrometer detecting the charged pions. The prospect of future 11 GeV measurements at Jefferson Lab in Hall A using a solenoid magnetic detector system is also discussed in this talk. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The dilution enthalpies of D-mannitol and D-sorbitol in aqueous sodium chloride solution at various concentrations have been determined by isothermal microcalorimetry at 298.15 K. The homogeneous enthalpic interaction coefficients over a quite large range of concentration of aqueous sodium chloride solutions have been calculated according to the excess enthalpy concept. The results show that enthalpic pairwise interaction coefficients ( h 2) of D-mannitol and D-sorbitol are positive in aqueous sodium chloride solution and become more positive with increase of the concentration of sodium chloride. The results are interpreted in terms of the different conformations of the two polyols, solute-solute and solute-solvent interactions involved by solvent effects. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Photometric data of the new discovered binary GSC3658-0076 observed by [González-Rojas et al.: 2003, IBVS, No. 5437.] were analyzed using the latest Wilson-Devinney code. The system turns out to be a detached binary system with the primary component almost filling its Roche lobe, while the secondary one is detached from the critical Roche lobe. According to the mass-radius relation of unevolved (ZAMS) detached binaries given by [Demircan and Kahraman: 1991, Ap&SS 181, 313.], the primary component is more evolved. These properties reveal that GSC3658-0076 may be at the beginning of the mass transfer phase and may evolve from the present detached system into a contact binary or be in the broken-contact phase predicted by TRO theory. The dynamic properties of the micelles of a novel synthesized amphiphilic block copolymer, dendritic poly(benzyl ether)–poly(acrylic acid) (Dendr.PBE-PAA), formed in aqueous solutions were studied by the 1H self-diffusion coefficient, relaxation measurements and 2D nuclear Overhauser enhancement spectroscopy. The experimental results show that Dendr.PBE-PAA molecules self-aggregate in aqueous solution. The dynamic properties of the Dendr.PBE-PAA micelles vary with their total concentration in the solution. The motion of the molecules in the micelles of a concentrated solution is more restricted than that in a less concentrated one. The main chains of PAA are densely packed in the surface layer of the hydrophobic core with the carboxyl side chain pointing to the aqueous medium and the hydrophobic phenoxy rings stay in the interior. The self-aggregate becomes larger as the degree of polymerization of PAA increases. However the phenoxy rings situated in the interior of the hydrophobic core become more loosely packed. n-Hexadecane is solubilized in the micelles. The optimal position of n-hexadecane is between the phenoxy rings next to the PAA chains. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
