The anti-diabetic glipizide (GLN) drug has notable pharmaceutical advantages, but poor aqueous solubility restricts its wide applications. The present work was to develop a mixed polymeric micelle system composed of SA-F127 and TPGS to improve the water solubility and effective delivery of the GLN. First, we synthesized SA-F127 and confirmed it through FTIR, NMR, and GPC techniques. The GLN-PMM were fabricated with the thin-film technique and optimized with CCD design. The developed GLN-PMM was characterized using DLS, Zeta, TEM, Rheology, FTIR, DSC, and XRD measurements. The GLN-PMM manifested a spherical morphology with 67.86 nm particle size, a −3.85 mV zeta potential, and a 0.582±0.06 PDI value. The polymeric mixed micelles showed excellent compatibility with GLN and were amorphous in nature. NMR studies confirmed the encapsulation of GLN in the core of the mixed micelle. In addition, the GLN-PMM micelles were tested in vitro for cumulative drug release, ex vivo for permeation, and in vivo for anti-diabetic investigations. The GLN-PMM release profile in the various pH environments showed over 90% after 24 h, clearly indicating sustained release. The GLN-PMM micelles gave higher 88.86±3.39% GLN permeation from the goat intestine compared with free GLN. In-vivo anti-diabetic investigation proves the powerful anti-diabetic properties of GLN-PMM in comparison to the marketed formulation. These findings demonstrated that the polymeric mixed micelles of SA-F127 and TPGS could be a promising, effective, and environment-friendly approach for oral delivery of the GLN. Ru, Ce and Eu radiotracers sorption experiments (pH: 1-6) have been carried out with polycrystalline columnar/microcrystalline calcite and aragonite obtained from a stalagmite of Dharamjali cave, India. The different domains of the sample were powdered and thoroughly studied using electron microscopic and X-ray spectroscopic techniques. Both Ru and Ce exhibited higher sorption within calcite varieties compared to aragonite and increased with rising pH, while it showed reverse relation in case of Eu. Further, it is noted that aragonite offers the highest K values for Eu, whereas Ru and Ce prefer calcite. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Batch equilibrium studies were conducted at 20 ± 0.5 °C with indigenously synthesized spherical resorcinol-formaldehyde resin beads, using radioanalytical technique, to determine their capacity for sorption of cesium ions from alkaline medium. Equilibrium isotherm studies were carried out, by varying the initial concentrations of cesium from 0.1 to 50 mM. The liquid-to-solid phase ratio of ~100 ml:1 g was maintained for all the sorption experiments. The equilibrium data were fitted to Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models. It was observed that Freundlich isotherm explains sorption process nicely. The effect of resin size on percentage cesium ion uptake was also investigated, and 20-40 mesh size was found to be the optimum particle size. The cesium sorption capacity of the beads was determined to be ~238 mg/g. The kinetics of the sorption was studied at different initial cesium ion concentrations, and the kinetics data were fitted into various kinetics models. The kinetics of the cesium ion sorption was found to be pseudo second-order. The mechanistic steps involved were found to be complex, consisting of both film diffusion and intraparticle diffusion with film diffusion as the rate limiting step. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Waste water pollution is one of the most prominent concerns across the globe due to its severe impact on human health and environment which affects the ecosystem directly. Therefore, for sustainable and consistence environment, waste water treatment is the primary and mandatory agenda of agencies involve worldwide to rectify this issue. Additionally, among various sustainable trail based strategies for waste water treatment, biochar catalyst utilization is very potential and impactful whereas, use of nanoform of biochar which is also known as nanobiochar is more impactful in waste water pollution remediation. Therefore, the present review represents the sustainable fabrication of nanobiochar from organic waste biomass and process strategy for its reduction from bulk form to nano form using different sustainability procedures. Type and mode of action of different biomass, types, fabrication, methods and functional properties along with their functional efficacy have been highlighted and discussed in the review. The stagnant crop productivity and declining factor productivity especially under rice-wheat system in changing climate scenario demand the adoption of nutrient responsive high yielding climate-resilient varieties. Considering these challenges, the present study was conducted during two consecutive Rabi seasons of 2020-21 and 2021-22 with an aim to improve wheat productivity through appropriate combinations of genotypes, nutrient management and plant growth regulators (PGRs). The experiment was conducted in split-plot design with two nutrient levels {recommended dose of fertilizer (RDF) as 150:60:40 kg N, P2O5 and K2O ha-1, respectively, and 150% RDF + 15 t FYM (farm yard manure) ha-1 + two sprays of PGRs consisting of tank-mix of chlormequat chloride @ 400 g + tebuconazole @ 172 g ha-1 at the first node and flag leaf stage} in main-plots and nine genotypes (DBW187, DBW303, DBW327, DBW332, DBW370, DBW371, DBW372, HD3086 and PBW872) in sub-plots. The plant height significantly reduced while earheads m-2 and grains m-2 improved with PGRs application under high fertility which led to increased (12.6%) mean grain yield over RDF. Among genotypes, maximum yield was observed for DBW370 (67.84 q ha-1) followed by PBW872, DBW371 and DBW372. Nutrient management and genotype interaction revealed that more grains m-2 in DBW370 led to maximum yield (66.2 q ha-1) at RDF while bolder grains in PBW872 made it top yielder (71.16 q ha-1) under high fertility condition. It is concluded that productivity of modern wheat cultivars can be improved through higher fertility and tank-mix application of chlormequat + tebuconazole. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
