With adults feeling more isolated and socially disconnected than ever, the association between loneliness and other pathological behaviors has garnered increased attention. Although significant progress has been made in elucidating how loneliness exacerbates maladaptive behaviors like social media addiction (SMA) and the fear of missing out (FoMO), the mechanisms underpinning these relationships, especially in the workplace context, remain elusive. To bridge this knowledge gap, our study incorporates a sample of 381 Taiwanese employees to explore two key areas. First, we investigate the mediating role of workplace ostracism in the relationship between workplace loneliness and both SMA and FoMO. Secondly, we examine the potential moderating role of resilience in the direct and indirect correlations between workplace loneliness and both SMA and FoMO. Our mediation analysis reveals that workplace ostracism operates as a partial mediator in the relationship between workplace loneliness and both SMA and FoMO. Contrary to our expectations given the risk-buffering model, we discovered a positive moderating effect of resilience between (1) workplace loneliness and ostracism, (2) workplace ostracism with both SMA and FoMO, and (3) workplace loneliness with SMA, but not with FoMO. Academic engagement in recent years has become the focus of determining student learning and achievement. However,despite this growing awareness that has revolutionized academic policies and educational approaches, literature on engagement in the academic context is still in its infancy. This study seeks to remedy this through the confirmation of the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale for Students' (UWES-S) promising psychometric properties and by providing empirical evidence on the relationship between academic engagement, personality traits, and social media addiction, a determinant that has yet to be explored. Our findings indicate that of the five personality traits analyzed, agreeableness had the strongest negative correlation with academic engagement, and perhaps equally as striking is the positive, albeit insignificant, association between social media and academic engagement. Furthermore, the most informative and least informative items for academic engagement were identified using IRT analysis. Finally, this study also addresses several gaps in the literature by determining that the one-factor construct of the UWES-S is an adequate measure of academic engagement compared to its three-factor counterpart and by demonstrating the measurement invariance of the UWES-S across gender, class year, and academic major in our sample of Taiwanese undergraduates. Pathological phubbing behavior has become an increasingly prevalent issue in recent years yet research surrounding these technological concerns remains scarce. The current study seeks to contribute to this limited body of research by providing insight into the antecedents of excessive and severe phubbing behavior and potential risk factors of pathological technology use as a whole. 938 undergraduate students participated in a cross-sectional study to determine whether demographic variables, personality traits, and degrees of social media addiction and fear of missing out could explain phubbing behavior. Participants responded to a survey that included the Bergen Social Media Addiction Scale (BSMAS), Fear of Missing Out Scale (FoMO), Ten-Item Personality Inventory (TIPI), and Phubbing Scale (Phubbing). Bivariate correlations identified that BSMAS and FoMO were significantly positively correlated with phubbing while TIPI displayed a significantly negative correlation with phubbing. Further, hierarchical multiple regression analyses established that BSMAS holds the most predictive power for phubbing while FoMO displayed a significantly less robust predictive power. Based on a consideration of the whole process from reorganization filing to confirmation, this paper examines the impact of corporate reorganization on both filing firms and industry rivals, and how it changes the competitive landscape of the industry. Results show that there exist intra-industry information transfers throughout the whole course of the reorganization proceedings that result in an incessant downward revaluation of the rival firms’ values. Specifically, the market reassesses the prospects of not only the filer but also of its industry rivals simultaneously. Results also show that whether a rival firm has a contagious or a competitive reaction is largely decided by firm-specific rather than industry-specific characteristics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
