The analysis of the constituents of the leaves of Tradescantia spathacea yielded one new phenolic compound, named 3,6-di-tert-butyl-5-ethylphenol (1), along with four known compounds consisting of 1,1′-oxybis(2,4-di-tert-butylbenzene), β-sitosterol, β-sitosterone, and stigmasterol. All the structures were depicted using different spectroscopic methods such as NMR, IR, UV, and MS. Compounds 2–5 were reported for the first time to be isolated from T. spathacea leaves. The antioxidant activities of the compounds were tested using a DPPH free radical scavenging assay. Extraction of I A. cylindrica i leaves yields a new plant wax, ( I Z i )-4-methylhex-3-en-1-yl-2-methylpentadecanoate ( B 1 b ), as well as four small metabolites, isonicotinaldehyde ( B 2 b ), 4-(hydroxymethyl) benzoic acid ( B 3 b ), isovanillic acid ( B 4 b ), and I p i -aminohydrocinnamic acid ( B 5 b ). As part of our ongoing studies on the isolation of bioactive compounds in plant species [[12]-[19]], we now present the natural compounds from the leaves of I A. cylindrica i . Subfractions D2/29-D2/33 were combined to give compound B 1 b (18.9 mg), whereas Fr. D3 was fractionated over a silica gel 60F SB 254 sb (230-400 mesh ASTM) eluted with Hex, Hex-CH SB 2 sb Cl SB 2 sb , CH SB 2 sb Cl SB 2 sb , and CH SB 2 sb Cl SB 2 sb -CH SB 3 sb OH to give eight subfractions (D3/1-D3/8), and led to the isolation of compound B 3 b (D3/6, 6.8 mg). The extracts were dried on a rotary evaporator yielding 15.6 g, 21.5 g, and 98.2 g of hexane, dichloromethane, and methanol extracts, respectively. [Extracted from the article]

All these compounds were isolated for the first time from I P. acidus i , except for compound B 6 b [[14]]. The extraction of the bark of I P. acidus i afforded three steroids, 7-oxo- -sitosterol ( B 1 b ), -sitostenone ( B 2 b ), and -sitosterol ( B 3 b ); and four terpenoids, 17 -hydroxy-norlup-20(29)-en-3-one ( B 4 b ), glochidon ( B 5 b ), phyllanthol ( B 6 b ), and squalene ( B 7 b ).
