Abstract PAR3/INSC/LGN form an evolutionarily conserved complex required for asymmetric cell division in the developing brain, but its post-developmental function and disease relevance in the peripheral nervous system (PNS) remains unknown. We mapped a new locus for axonal Charcot–Marie-Tooth disease (CMT2) and identified a missense mutation c.209 T > G (p.Met70Arg) in the INSC gene. Modeling the INSC M70R variant in Drosophila, we showed that it caused proprioceptive defects in adult flies, leading to gait defects resembling those in CMT2 patients. Cellularly, PAR3/INSC/LGN dysfunction caused tubulin aggregation and necrotic neurodegeneration, with microtubule-stabilizing agents rescuing both morphological and functional defects of the INSC M70R mutation in the PNS. Our findings underscore the critical role of the PAR3/INSC/LGN machinery in the adult PNS and highlight a potential therapeutic target for INSC-associated CMT2.

Background: High-fidelity cardiac magnetic resonance (MR) imaging plays a pivotal role in the surveillance of congenital heart disease (CHD) and aortopathy. Objective: We aimed to evaluate the quality and accuracy of free breathing, ECG-gated noncontrast three-dimensional (3D) balanced steady-state free precession (bSSFP) in cases of CHDs and aortopathies using contrast-enhanced 3D bSSFP as a reference. We also used one of our routinely used non-ECG-gated 2D-single-shot (SSh) bSSFP sequence as an adjunct to noncontrast 3D bSSFP. Materials and methods: Institutional review board approval was obtained to perform a systematic retrospective analysis of image quality and vascular measurements. Patients with CHD and aortopathy, who were undergoing clinically indicated contrast-enhanced 3D bSSFP, were prospectively identified to also undergo additional noncontrast 3D bSSFP and 2D SSh bSSFP imaging as part of a clinical quality improvement initiative aimed at reducing the use of contrast when feasible. Two readers, blinded to each other's evaluations, graded image quality on a 5-point Likert scale and performed vascular measurements in separate sessions for both 3D bSSFP images. They also reported the visibility of various mediastinal great vessels on 2D SSh bSSFP images. Raw agreement, the weighted kappa statistic, and intra-class correlation coefficients (ICCs) were computed to assess the consistency and agreement between the two readers. Comparative analysis of noncontrast and contrast-enhanced 3D bSSFP imaging was performed in adult and pediatric patients using a two-sided paired t-test and Bland–Altman analysis. A P-value < 0.05 was considered significant for all inference testing. Results: A total of 29 patients (17 males, median age 20.3 years, interquartile range (IQR) 12.5, age range 7–39 years), including 11 pediatric patients under the age of 18 years (6 males, median age 14.5 years, IQR 4.0, age range 7–17 years), underwent retrospective analysis. The overall image quality score for contrast-enhanced 3D bSSFP was significantly higher (P < 0.0001) than that of noncontrast 3D bSSFP for both all subjects (4.4 ± 0.2, range 4.0–4.9 vs 3.7 ± 0.4, range 3.1–4.7) and only pediatric subjects (4.3 ± 0.3, range 4.0–4.9 vs 3.6 ± 0.5, range 3.1–4.4). By combining noncontrast 3D bSSFP and 2D bSSFP, reader 1 and reader 2 rated 423 and 420 vessels diagnostic, respectively, in a total of 435 vessel segments. All landmarks showed similar mean vessel diameters without significant differences between noncontrast and contrast-enhanced 3D bSSFP MR angiography (r = 0.99, bias -0.31 mm, 95% limits of agreement -2.04 mm to 1.43 mm). Conclusions: Although contrast-enhanced images had better overall image quality, an imaging protocol consisting of noncontrast 2D SSh bSSFP and 3D bSSFP whole-chest images provides diagnostically adequate image quality, and accurate vascular measurements, comparable to free-breathing contrast-enhanced 3D bSSFP in both children and adults with CHD and aortopathies. Poststroke aphasia hinders patients' emotional processing and social adaptation. This study estimated the risks of depression and related symptoms in patients developing or not developing aphasia after various types of stroke. Using data from the US Collaborative Network within the TriNetX Diamond Network, we conducted a retrospective cohort study of adults experiencing their first stroke between 2013 and 2022. Diagnoses were confirmed using corresponding International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision, Clinical Modification codes. Patients were stratified by poststroke aphasia status and stroke type, with propensity score matching performed to control for confounders. The primary outcome was depression within one year post-stroke; secondary outcomes included anxiety, fatigue, agitation, emotional impact, and insomnia. Each matched group comprised 12,333 patients. The risk of depression was significantly higher in patients with poststroke aphasia (hazard ratio: 1.728; 95% CI 1.464–2.038; p < 0.001), especially those with post-hemorrhagic-stroke aphasia (hazard ratio: 2.321; 95% CI 1.814–2.970; p < 0.001). Patients with poststroke aphasia also had higher risks of fatigue, agitation, and emotional impact. Anxiety and insomnia risks were higher in those with post-hemorrhagic-stroke aphasia. Poststroke aphasia, particularly post-hemorrhagic-stroke aphasia, may increase the risks of depression and associated symptoms, indicating the need for comprehensive psychiatric assessments. Layered bismuth (Bi) has been focused on two Peierls distortion derivatives, i.e., bulk stable β-phase (A7 phase), black phosphorus-like α-phase (A17 phase), and their mutated structures. Metastable structures beyond Peierls distortion system are yet rarely accessible. Here, Bi in square symmetry ( C 4 v ), called s-Bi, was grown via physical vapor deposition. The co-existence of three 120°-associated s-Bi crystal grains was analyzed using transmission electron microscopy. 120°-oriented one-dimensional (1D) nuclei indicate s-Bi heteroepitaxy on six-fold symmetric ( C 6 v ) mica (001). A subsequent nanorod-like nuclei coalescing could promote a morphology evolution, resulting in triangular or hexagonal nanosheets with the unique triple s-Bi structure suitable for later β-Bi growth. Lattice misfit and strain calculations suggest a supercell match between 4 × 7 s-Bi and 3 × 3 mica (001). Diamondoids are a class of organic molecules with the carbon skeletons isostructural to nano-diamond, and have been shown to be promising precursors for diamond formation. In this work, the formation of diamond crystals from various diamondoid molecule building blocks was studied using our developed molecular geometry specific Monte Carlo method. We maintained the internal carbon skeletons of the diamondoid molecules, and investigated how the carbon-carbon bonds form between diamondoid molecules and how efficient the process is to form diamond crystals. The simulations show that higher diamondoid molecules can produce structures closer to a diamond crystal compared with lower diamondoid molecules. Specifically, using higher diamondoid molecules, larger bulk diamond crystals are formed with fewer vacancies. The higher propensity of certain diamondoids to form diamond crystals reveals insights into the microscopic processes of diamond formation under high-pressure high-temperature conditions. Diamondoids are a series of hydrogen-terminated nanometer-sized hydrocarbons that can be used to synthesize high-quality diamond crystals. Here, the authors use Monte Carlo simulations to study the potentials of different diamondoids in constructing diamond crystals with the assumption that the carbon skeletons keep intact, and find that higher diamondoid molecules are most suitable. Chloroplast (cp) genome sequences have been extensively used for phylogenetic and evolutionary analyses, as many have been sequenced in recent years. Identification of Quercus is challenging because many species overlap phenotypically owing to interspecific hybridization, introgression, and incomplete lineage sorting. Therefore, we wanted to gain a better understanding of this genus at the level of the maternally inherited chloroplast genome. Here, we sequenced, assembled, and annotated the cp genomes of the threatened Quercus marlipoensis (160,995 bp) and Q. kingiana (161,167 bp), and mined these genomes for repeat sequences and codon usage bias. Comparative genomic analyses, phylogenomics, and selection pressure analysis were also performed in these two threatened species along with other species of Quercus. We found that the guanine and cytosine content of the two cp genomes were similar. All 131 annotated genes, including 86 protein-coding genes, 37 transfer RNA genes, and 8 ribosomal RNA genes, had the same order in the two species. A strong A/T bias was detected in the base composition of simple sequence repeats. Among the 59 synonymous codons, the codon usage pattern of the cp genomes in these two species was more inclined toward the A/U ending. Comparative genomic analyses indicated that the cp genomes of Quercus section Ilex are highly conserved. We detected eight highly variable regions that could be used as molecular markers for species identification. The cp genome structure was consistent and different within and among the sections of Quercus. The phylogenetic analysis showed that section Ilex was not monophyletic and was divided into two groups, which were respectively nested with section Cerris and section Cyclobalanopsis. The two threatened species sequenced in this study were grouped into the section Cyclobalanopsis. In conclusion, the analyses of cp genomes of Q. marlipoensis and Q. kingiana promote further study of the taxonomy, phylogeny and evolution of these two threatened species and Quercus. Background: Infections caused by Klebsiella pneumoniae are common and result in high mortality rates. In vitro studies demonstrated the potency of cefoperazone/sulbactam (CPZ/SUL) against Klebsiella pneumoniae. However, the clinical efficacy of CPZ/SUL for the treatment of K. pneumoniae bacteremia has not been studied. Objectives: This study aimed to associate the clinical outcomes of patients with bacteremia with the minimal inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of CPZ/SUL against the causative K. pneumoniae isolates. Methods: This multicenter, retrospective study was conducted in Taiwan between July 2017 and April 2021. Patients with K. pneumoniae bacteremia treated with CPZ/SUL were enrolled in this study. CPZ/SUL MICs were determined using the agar dilution method. Data on the patients' clinical outcomes and characteristics were collected and analyzed. Results: In total, 201 patients were enrolled. Among the causative K. pneumoniae isolates, 180 (89.5%) were susceptible to CPZ/SUL. Most patients (n = 156, 77.6%) had favorable outcomes. The 30-day mortality rate was 11.9% (n = 24). Multivariate risk analyses showed that higher APACHE II score (Odds Ratio [OR], 1.14; Confidence Interval [CI], 1.07–1.21; p < 0.001), metastatic tumors (OR, 5.76; CI, 2.31–14.40; p < 0.001), and causative K. pneumoniae CPZ/SUL MICs > 16 µg/ml (OR, 4.30; CI, 1.50–12.27; p = 0.006) were independently associated with unfavorable outcomes. Conclusion: Patients with K. pneumoniae bacteremia treated with CPZ/SUL at a ratio 1:1 had favorable outcomes when the CPZ/SUL MICs were ≤ 16 µg/ml. Machine configuration is a crucial strategic decision in designing a flow shop system (FSS) and directly affects its performance. This involves selecting device suppliers and determining the number of machines to be configured. This study addresses a bi-objective optimization problem for an FSS that considers repair actions and aims to determine the most suitable machine configuration that balances the production reliability and purchase cost. A nondominated sorting genetic algorithm II (NSGA-II) is used to determine all the Pareto solutions. The technique for order preference by similarity to an ideal solution is then used to identify a compromise alternative. It is necessary to assess the production reliability of any machine configuration identified by the NSGA-II. The FSS under the machine configuration is modeled as a multistate flow shop network, and Absorbing Markov Chain and Recursive Sum of Disjoint Products are integrated into the NSGA-II for reliability evaluation. The experimental results of solar cell manufacturing demonstrate the applicability of the proposed hybrid method and validate the efficiency of the NSGA-II compared with an improved strength Pareto evolutionary algorithm. In the context of shape optimization, this article proposes a numerical method for designing wheel rims as linear elastic structures. Our approach is based on a combination of the classical shape derivative and the Lagrangian method. The compliant shape derivative with respect to the domain variation has been computed by using Céa fast derivation method. With a novel utilization of the gradient shape optimization strategy, we present a numerical scheme for the optimal design of wheel rims. A remeshing technique is implemented to achieve the regularization of shapes. Design applications are examined on a general vehicle in various circumstances to illustrate the efficiency of the presented scheme. This paper mainly investigates linear elastic optimal control problems with two constraints: distributed load control and boundary load control. The gradient of the objective functional is derived via an adjoint problem. We obtain the H 1 -regularity for the distributed control solution. Moreover, we establish a suitable finite element interpolation to deal with the non-optimal regularity of the boundary control solution. The error estimates for the fully discretized problems is given. Then, together with the interior point method, a new numerical method for the optimal control of linear elasticity is exhibited. Chronic cough is a common disorder lasting more than 8 weeks and affecting all age groups. The evidence supporting the role of neutrophils in chronic cough pathology is based on many patients with chronic cough developing airway neutrophilia. How neutrophils influence the development of chronic cough is unknown. However, they are likely involved in multiple aspects of cough etiology, including promoting airway inflammation, airway remodeling, hyper-responsiveness, local neurogenic inflammation, and other possible mechanisms. Neutrophilic airway inflammation is also associated with refractory cough, poor control of underlying diseases (e.g., asthma), and insensitivity to cough suppressant therapy. The potential for targeting neutrophils in chronic cough needs exploration, including developing new drugs targeting one or more neutrophil-mediated pathways or altering the neutrophil phenotype to alleviate chronic cough. How the airway microbiome differs, plays a role, and interacts with neutrophils in different cough etiologies is poorly understood. Background and Objective: Multiple myeloma is a rare incurable hematological cancer in which most patients relapse or become refractory to treatment. This systematic literature review aimed to critically review the existing economic models used in economic evaluations of systemic treatments for relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma and to summarize how the models addressed differences in the line of therapy and exposure to prior treatment. Methods: Following a pre-approved protocol, literature searches were conducted on 17 February, 2023, in relevant databases for models published since 2014. Additionally, key health technology assessment agency websites were manually searched for models published as part of submission dossiers since 2018. Reported information related to model conceptualization, structure, uncertainty, validation, and transparency were extracted into a pre-defined extraction sheet. Results: In total, 49 models assessing a wide range of interventions across multiple lines of therapy were included. Only five models specific to heavily pre-treated patients and/or those who were refractory to multiple treatment classes were identified. Most models followed a conventional simple methodology, such as partitioned survival (n = 28) or Markov models (n = 9). All included models evaluated specific interventions rather than the whole treatment sequence. Where subsequent therapies were included in the model, these were generally only considered from a cost and resource use perspective. The models generally used overall and progression-free survival as model inputs, although data were often immature. Sensitivity analyses were frequently reported (n = 41) whereas validation was only considered in less than half (n = 19) of the models. Conclusions: Published economic models in relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma rarely followed an individual patient approach, mainly owing to the higher need for complex data assumptions compared with simpler modeling approaches. As many patients experience disease progression on multiple treatment lines, there is a growing need for modeling complex treatment strategies, leading to more sophisticated approaches in the future. This retrospective cohort study describes the real-world incidence and maintenance of clinically meaningful intraocular pressure (IOP) reduction ("response") following stand-alone phacoemulsification for 667,987 eyes with suspected or confirmed glaucoma in the IRIS Registry (Intelligent Research in Sight) from 1/1/2013–9/30/2019. Intraocular pressure responders had ≥ 20% IOP reduction in daily mean IOP from baseline on two consecutive postoperative visits. We declared failure if a responder no longer maintained ≥ 20% IOP reduction. The estimated IOP responder rate was 41.3% by Kaplan–Meier analysis. Multivariate analysis demonstrated relationships between IOP response and baseline IOP (hazard ratio (HR) (95% confidence interval)) 1.48 (1.48–1.49), per 3 mmHg, P < 0.0001), age (HR 1.14 (1.13–1.14), per 10 years, P < 0.0001), male sex (HR 1.13 (1.12–1.15), P < 0.0001), prostaglandin analogue (HR 0.88 (0.87–0.90), P < 0.0001), and Rho-kinase inhibitor use (HR 1.50 (1.32–1.70), P = 0.01). Fifty percent of IOP responders failed at a median time of 14.3 months. Multivariate analysis demonstrated relationships between failure and baseline IOP (HR 0.75 (0.75–0.76), per 3 mmHg, P < 0.0001), nitric oxide donating prostaglandin (HR 1.78 (1.46–2.18), P < 0.0001) and Rho-kinase inhibitor use (HR 1.73 (1.43–2.09), P < 0.0001). Soft-matter-based photonic crystals like blue-phase liquid crystals (BPLC) have potential applications in wide-ranging photonic and bio-chemical systems. To date, however, there are limitations in the fabrication of large monocrystalline BPLCs. Traditional crystal-growth process involves the transition from a high-temperature disordered phase to an ordered (blue) phase and is generally slow (takes hours) with limited achievable lattice structures, and efforts to improve molecular alignment through post-crystallization field application typically prove ineffective. Here we report a systematic study on the molecular self-assembly dynamics of BPLC starting from a highly ordered phase in which all molecules are unidirectionally aligned by a strong electric field. We have discovered that, near the high-temperature end of the blue phase, if the applied field strength is then switched to an intermediate level or simply turned off, large-area monocrystalline BPLCs of various symmetries (tetragonal, orthorhombic, cubic) can be formed in minutes. Subsequent temperature tuning of the single crystal at a fixed applied field allows access to different lattice parameters and the formation of never-before-seen monoclinic structures. The formed crystals remain stable upon field removal. The diversity of stable monocrystalline BPLCs with widely tunable crystalline symmetries, band structures, and optical dispersions will significantly improve and expand their application potentials. A low-profile multi-port dual-band antenna with pattern and polarization diversity is presented for 2.45 and 5.8 GHz bands. The antenna consists of a monopolar patch for vertically polarized (VP) omnidirectional radiation and four combining printed-dipole and tapered-slot elements arranged in a circular shape for horizontally polarized (HP) multibeam radiation, and consequently, both pattern and polarization diversities are achieved in the full azimuth plane. The monopolar patch employs four vias and a square-ring slot to excite T M 01 and T M 02 modes at 2.45 and 5.8 GHz, respectively. Each HP element utilizes printed-dipole and tapered-slot modes for the lower and upper bands, respectively. The VP and HP elements are collocated with a common ground plane, which not only allows a low profile but also broadens the lower band of the monopolar mode. The final design with 0.03 λ 2.45 - G H z height yields a measured 10-dB return loss bandwidth of 8.6% and 6.7% at 2.45 and 5.8 GHz, respectively, and an isolation ≥ 20 dB among all the ports. Purpose: Cyclin-dependent kinase 4/6 inhibitors (CDK4/6i) combined with endocrine therapy have demonstrated significant clinical benefits in progression-free and overall survival. This study investigates the outcomes associated with two kinds of CDK4/6i in patients with hormone receptor (HR)-positive metastatic and relapsed breast cancer to inform real-world evidence of treatment strategies. Methods: This retrospective study included 340 Taiwanese patients with HR-positive advanced breast cancer from the Taipei Veterans General Hospital, between 2018 and 2023. We analyzed patient characteristics, treatment strategies and outcomes associated with two CDK4/6i. The efficacy of patients who experienced economic burden and interrupted CDK4/6i treatment after 2 years of National Health Insurance (NHI) reimbursement was also investigated. Results: Patients receiving ribociclib and palbociclib showed no significant differences in age, histology, body mass index(BMI), or pathologic status. The distribution of disease status and endocrine therapy partners was comparable between the two groups. Dose reduction was similar, while patients with palbociclib tended to discontinue CDK4/6i usage, and those with ribociclib tended to switch to the other CDK4/6i or endocrine partners. There was no significant difference in progression-free survival (PFS) between the two CDK4/6i in the first-line setting. Adverse prognostic factors were increasing HER2 IHC score, higher Ki-67 levels, visceral and liver metastasis, prior chemotherapy, and endocrine therapy resistance, while higher BMI, bone-only metastasis, and letrozole treatment were associated with a lower risk of progression. The limited follow-up time in our study was insufficient to assess the outcomes of patients treated with interrupted CDK4/6i for up to two years under the NHI reimbursement policy. Conclusion: Treatment outcomes between the two types of CDK4/6i did not differ significantly, indicating the safety and efficacy of CDK4/6i for the Asian population. Astrocytes display context-specific diversity in their functions and respond to noxious stimuli between brain regions. Astrocytic mitochondria have emerged as key players in governing astrocytic functional heterogeneity, given their ability to dynamically adapt their morphology to regional demands on ATP generation and Ca2+ buffering functions. Although there is reciprocal regulation between mitochondrial dynamics and mitochondrial Ca2+ signaling in astrocytes, the extent of this regulation in astrocytes from different brain regions remains unexplored. Brain-wide, experimentally induced mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) loss in astrocytes showed that mtDNA integrity is critical for astrocyte function, however, possible diverse responses to this noxious stimulus between brain areas were not reported in these experiments. To selectively damage mtDNA in astrocytes in a brain-region-specific manner, we developed a novel adeno-associated virus (AAV)-based tool, Mito-PstI expressing the restriction enzyme PstI, specifically in astrocytic mitochondria. Here, we applied Mito-PstI to two brain regions, the dorsolateral striatum and dentate gyrus, and we show that Mito-PstI induces astrocytic mtDNA loss in vivo, but with remarkable brain-region-dependent differences on mitochondrial dynamics, Ca2+ fluxes, and astrocytic and microglial reactivity. Thus, AAV-Mito-PstI is a novel tool to explore the relationship between astrocytic mitochondrial network dynamics and astrocytic mitochondrial Ca2+ signaling in a brain-region-selective manner. This study aimed to explore the association between bone mineral density and physical frailty including nutrition, muscle mass, and oral function. We included participants aged 35–80 years and examined their bone mineral density, serum albumin level, body composition, and variance of hue (VOH) of two-colored gum. We also used the geriatric oral health assessment index (GOHAI). These data were used to calculate the geriatric nutritional risk index (GNRI) and skeletal muscle index (SMI). Multinomial logistic regression was performed to assess the relationship between GNRI, SMI, VOH, GOHAI, and bone mineral density after adjusting for comorbidities, including hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and previous bone fracture. We included 228 participants and classified their bone mineral density as normal, osteopenic, or osteoporotic. Older age (odds ratio (OR) 1.15, 95% confidence interval (CI) [1.08, 1.23]), low GNRI (OR 0.90, 95% CI [0.83, 0.98]), low SMI (OR 0.43, 95% CI [0.27, 0.68]), and high VOH (OR 1.08, 95% CI [1.01, 1.17]) were significantly associated with osteoporosis. Older age (OR 1.08, 95% CI [1.04, 1.11]) and low GNRI (OR 0.93, 95% CI [0.87, 0.99]) were significantly associated with osteopenia. GNRI, SMI, and VOH were significantly associated with osteoporosis among male participants. Although the multinomial logistic regression analysis indicated that GNRI, SMI, VOH, and GOHAI were not significantly associated with osteoporosis or osteopenia among female participants, the demographic distribution showed that older age, low GNRI, and low SMI were significantly associated with bone mineral density decline. This study investigated the role of interfacial deformability in bond integrity and strength, particularly in the production of robust joints between harder austenitic stainless steels (SS) during ultrasonic welding. The specimen without the interlayer experienced limited strength enhancement owing to internal cracking from continuous sliding at interfacial temperatures below 0.6 times the melting point (Tm), which is attributed to the limited deformability of the austenitic SS. In contrast, introducing Fe and Ni interlayers between the substrates resulted in a notable increase in the interfacial strength, surpassing 2500 N in the peak load within a reduced welding duration. The correlation between the interfacial strength and the peak temperature suggests that a substantial decrease in hardness below 0.4 Tm is sufficient for extensive bond formation. Moreover, dynamic recrystallization (DRX) led to grain refinement in the Fe interlayer owing to shorter weld durations, whereas grain growth was observed in the Ni interlayer due to higher peak temperatures. Both the Fe and Ni interlayers significantly improved the bonding integrity by accommodating plasticity through the above phenomena without severe damage to the substrates, leading to increase of interfacial strength by 24% (2050 N to 2500 N) and reduction of weld duration by 40% (1.5 s in Fe interlayer). Beaches provide a buffer zone between the sea and the land, which mitigates the impact of natural hazards on waterfront residents. In this study, the beach at the Dakenggu community in Suao Township, Yilan, was used as a long-term monitoring site for ghost crabs. The survey was conducted by researchers in collaboration with local residents, which can be considered community-based citizen science. In collaboration, researchers and residents conducted monthly surveys. The findings showed that Ocypode sinensis was a dominant species on the Dakenggu beach. Juvenile O. sinensis were more abundant in the spring (April) and the summer (July–September). Except in September, no sex predominance was observed in other months, which may be related to the breeding period of the crabs. As far as other data are concerned, O. sinensis females were significantly larger than males, and O. sinensis occurrences exhibited a significant positive correlation with temperature and a significant negative correlation with relative humidity when weather data for the survey days were analyzed. Multiple studies have shown that the ghost crab population is highly affected by offroad vehicle use on the beach. As a result, local residents can use the findings of this study to develop corresponding conservation strategies, such as permitting off-road vehicle use only in the winter (November–February) and planting coastal plants as natural barriers to prevent vehicles from destroying ghost crab habitat. Long-term environmental monitoring through community-based citizen science can document changes in the local environment, and such information can be the basis for increased community resilience to face the challenges posed by environmental change. Background: Vascular calcification (VC) is highly prevalent and predicts cardiovascular mortality in dialysis patients. The mechanisms are still unclear. Inflammation is a well-known inducer of VC. YKL-40 has been suggested as a novel biomarker of inflammation and has been demonstrated to be associated with cardiovascular mortality in hemodialysis patients. This study aims to evaluate the relationship between serum YKL-40 and VC in hemodialysis (HD) patients. Methods: A total of 109 HD patients and 31 healthy controls were enrolled in the study from September 2014 to December 2014. We evaluated the abdominal aortic calcification (AAC) score by plain X-ray films of the abdomen and measured serum YKL-40 concentrations using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. We also examined the relationship between YKL-40 levels and AAC scores in HD patients. Results: Serum YKL-40 levels in HD patients were significantly higher than those in healthy controls [199.8 (144.8, 288.7) vs. 71.9 (52.8, 89.3) ng/ml; P < 0.001]. There was a tendency that YKL-40 levels in diabetic hemodialysis patients were higher than those in nondiabetic patients [217.8 (155.3, 335.8) vs. 192.9 (135.9, 274.4) ng/ml; P = 0.093]. A significant positive correlation was found between serum YKL-40 level and AAC score in these patients (r = 0.410, P = 0.003). Multiple regression analysis showed that Ln(YKL-40) was independently associated with AAC score in HD patients (P = 0.044). Transoral endoscopic thyroidectomy has gained popularity due to its scarless nature, but the use of a handheld endoscope can lead to an unstable visual field. Soloassist II, a robotic scope holder, enables precise control using a joystick, ensuring stable vision. This study aims to evaluate the application and the advantages of Soloassist II in transoral thyroidectomy. Patients who underwent transoral thyroidectomy with Soloassist II or human assistance between June 2019 and May 2021 were reviewed. Patient demographics and surgical outcomes were compared. The ergonomic stress of the assistant in both groups was also measured. A total of 100 consecutive patients were included: 32 were assisted by Soloassist II and 68 by humans. The Soloassist II group demonstrated significantly shorter operation times (median [IQR]) (165 [149,179] vs. 181 [165,204] min, P = 0.004) in unilateral lobectomy and less blood loss (median [IQR]) (2 [2,2] vs. 2 [2,3] ml, P = 0.002) than the human-assisted group. Postoperative course and complication rates were similar. The musculoskeletal pain of the assistant was significantly higher and involved more areas in the human-assisted group. The utilization of Soloassist II in transoral endoscopic thyroidectomy is easy to set up and leads to shorter operation times, reduced blood loss, and decreased musculoskeletal pain compared to human handheld endoscope. Vietnam's coastal aquifers face the challenge of saltwater intrusion due to factors like climate change, sea level rise, and over-exploitation. This issue is particularly prominent in the Central Coastal Region, where the plains are narrow and water resources are limited. In order to ensure sustainable management of groundwater, it is crucial to assess the vulnerability of Quaternary aquifers to saltwater intrusion. For evaluation of salt, fresh water distribution in the aquifers, we applied geophysical methods, along with water sampling and analysis from boreholes and wells. Additionally, we employed Geographic Information System (GIS) to delineate vulnerability zones to seawater intrusion. The GALDIT method, incorporating the Analytical Hierarchical Process (AHP), was used to assign weights to key indicators. The results indicate that saltwater intrusion has changed in recent years. In the North-central coastal plains, over half of the area (56.8% or 4061.8 km2) exhibits high vulnerability, while the South-central coastal plains show high vulnerability in approximately one-fifth of the area (18.8% or 1699 km2). Groundwater occurrence and the impact of existing seawater intrusion play pivotal roles in determining coastal aquifer vulnerability to saltwater intrusion. This underscores the significance of narrow, steep plains, and thin aquifers as key influential factors. To mitigate the risk of saltwater intrusion in production wells, it is crucial to consider regulating groundwater extraction in high vulnerability areas. This would limit capacity and minimize the possibility of saltwater intrusion. The idea of the traditional histogram shifting technique is to hide a message within the cover-image pixel distribution. However, the embedding capacity is limited by the peak point occurrences. To solve this problem, many reversible data hiding (RDH) techniques are developed to combine pixel prediction and histogram shifting to increase the embedding payload. In this paper, a RDH scheme based on chessboard prediction and pixel partitioning is proposed for enhancing the hiding payload. Pixel partitioning is used to separate a pixel into two parts: most significant bit and least significant bit. Then, the chessboard predictor is adopted to generate prediction errors and separate the pixels. Thereafter, histogram shifting is applied to embed the secret messages into prediction errors. Due to the high similarity of adjacent pixels in an image, the generated prediction errors are highly close to zero, resulting in a large embedding space. The experimental results indicate that the proposed method has superior performance in embedding capacity with acceptable image visual quality compared to existing schemes since it adopts the adaptive adjustment strategy to achieve this improved balance. Global expansion in wind energy development is a notable achievement of the international community’s effort to reduce carbon emissions during energy production. However, the increasing number of wind turbines have unintended consequences for migratory birds and bats. Wind turbine curtailment and other mitigation strategies can reduce fatalities, but improved spatial and temporal data are needed to identify the most effective way for wind energy development and volant migratory species to coexist. Mexican free-tailed bats (Tadarida brasiliensis mexicana) account for a large proportion of known bat fatalities at wind facilities in the southwestern US. We examined the geographic concordance between existing wind energy generation facilities, areas of high wind potential amenable for future deployment of wind facilities, and seasonally suitable habitat for these bats. We used ecological niche modeling to determine species distribution during each of 4 seasons. We used a multi-criteria GIS-based approach to produce a wind turbine siting suitability map. We identified seasonal locations with highest and lowest potential for the species’ probability of occurrence, providing a potential explanation for the higher observed fatalities during fall migration. Thirty percent of 33,606 wind turbines within the southwestern US occurred in highly suitable areas for Mexican free-tailed bats, primarily in west Texas. There is also broad spatial overlap between areas of high wind potential and areas of suitable habitat for Mexican free-tailed bats. Because of this high degree of overlap, our results indicate that post-construction strategies, such as curtailing the timing of operations and deterrents, would be more effective for bat conservation than strategic siting of new wind energy installations. Limited data exist on long-term renal outcomes in patients with hyperglycemic crisis (HC) as initial type 2 diabetes presentation. We evaluated the risk of chronic kidney disease (CKD) development in those with concurrent HC at diagnosis. Utilizing Taiwan's insurance claims from adults newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes during 2006–2015, we created HC and matched non-HC cohorts. We assessed incident CKD/diabetic kidney disease (DKD) by 2018's end, calculating the hazard ratio (HR) with the Cox model. Each cohort comprised 13,242 patients. The combined CKD and DKD incidence was two-fold higher in the HC cohort than in the non-HC cohort (56.47 versus 28.49 per 1000 person-years) with an adjusted HR (aHR) of 2.00 (95% confidence interval [CI] 1.91–2.10]). Risk increased from diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) (aHR:1.69 [95% CI 1.59–1.79]) to hyperglycemic hyperosmolar state (HHS) (aHR:2.47 [95% CI 2.33–2.63]) and further to combined DKA-HHS (aHR:2.60 [95% CI 2.29–2.95]). Subgroup analysis in individuals aged ≥ 40 years revealed a similar trend with slightly reduced incidences and HRs. Patients with HC as their initial type 2 diabetes presentation face a higher CKD risk than do those without HC. Currently, conventional dimethoxymethane synthesis methods are environmentally unfriendly. Here, we report a photo-redox catalysis system to generate dimethoxymethane using a silver and tungsten co-modified blue titanium dioxide catalyst (Ag.W-BTO) by coupling CO2 reduction and CH3OH oxidation under mild conditions. The Ag.W-BTO structure and its electron and hole transfer are comprehensively investigated by combining advanced characterizations and theoretical studies. Strikingly, Ag.W-BTO achieve a record photocatalytic activity of 5702.49 µmol g−1 with 92.08% dimethoxymethane selectivity in 9 h of ultraviolet-visible irradiation without sacrificial agents. Systematic isotope labeling experiments, in-situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier-transform analysis, and theoretical calculations reveal that the Ag and W species respectively catalyze CO2 conversion to *CH2O and CH3OH oxidation to *CH3O. Subsequently, an asymmetric carbon-oxygen coupling process between these two crucial intermediates produces dimethoxymethane. This work presents a CO2 photocatalytic reduction system for multi-carbon production to meet the objectives of sustainable economic development and carbon neutrality. This study unravels the efficient photocatalytic route for synthesizing dimethoxymethane by coupling CO2 reduction integrated with CH3OH oxidation by using a silver and tungsten comodified blue titanium dioxide catalyst under mild conditions. With the increasingly serious problems of international energy shortage and environmental degradation, the adoption of hybrid energy forms represents an effective solution to these challenges and has been widely implemented in the propulsion systems of aircraft, vehicles, and ships. For the hybrid propulsion system with parallel power configuration, a comprehensive investigation has been conducted to understand the system's dynamic characteristics and the evolution laws associated with power parameters. By appropriately simplifying of the actual propulsion system, a nonlinear dynamic model with multi-factor and multi-degree-of-freedom (multi-DOF) coupling is established. The dynamic equations are solved by numerical method, and the motion state of the system under various rotating speeds is revealed through global and local characteristic analyses. The evolution laws of the dynamic characteristics are studies with respect to different combinations of key power parameters, including (λω, λf) and (fo, λf), and the impact of these parameters on the system stability is discussed. Finally, an experimental platform with a parallel drive system is established to quantitatively assess the effects of rotating speed and torque ratio on frequency response, dynamic characteristics, and power efficiency. The results indicate that low rotating speed, heavy load, and large torque ratio have positive implications for the stability of the propulsion system. However, an excessively low torque ratio can significantly compromise power efficiency. It is anticipated that this research will serve as a valuable reference for the design of dynamic stability and optimization of the power configuration in hybrid propulsion systems. Automatic modulation classification (AMC) is an important process for future communication systems with prominent applications from spectrum management, and secure communication, to cognitive radio. The requirement for an efficient AMC classifier is due to its capability in blind modulation recognition, which is a difficult task in real scenarios where the limitations of traditional hardware and the complexity of channel impairments are involved. Therefore, this paper proposes a complete real-time AMC system based on software-defined radio and deep learning architecture. The system demodulation performance is verified through simulations and real channel impairment conditions to ensure reliability. With at most 6 times reduced number of parameters, two proposed models convolutional long short-term memory deep neural network and residual long short-term memory neural network also show a general improvement in classification accuracy compared with reference studies. Background: Resistant hypertension (rHTN) is defined as blood pressure (BP) of ≥ 140/90 mmHg despite treatment with at least three antihypertensive medications, including a diuretic. Endovascular ultrasound renal denervation (uRDN) aims to control BP alongside conventional BP treatment with antihypertensive medication. This analysis assesses the cost effectiveness of the addition of the Paradise uRDN System compared with standard of care alone in patients with rHTN from the perspective of the United Kingdom (UK) health care system. Methods: Using RADIANCE-HTN TRIO trial data, we developed a state-transition model. Baseline risk was calculated using Framingham and Prospective Cardiovascular Münster (PROCAM) risk equations to estimate the long-term cardiovascular risks in patients treated with the Paradise uRDN System, based on the observed systolic BP (SBP) reduction following uRDN. Relative risks sourced from a meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials were then used to project cardiovascular events in patients with baseline SBP ('control' patients); utility and mortality inputs and costs were derived from UK data. Costs and outcomes were discounted at 3.5% per annum. Modelled outcomes were validated against trial meta-analyses and the QRISK3 algorithm and real-world evidence of RDN effectiveness. One-way and probabilistic sensitivity analyses were conducted to assess the uncertainty surrounding the model inputs and sensitivity of the model results to changes in parameter inputs. Results were reported as incremental cost-effectiveness ratios (ICERs). Results: A mean reduction in office SBP of 8.5 mmHg with uRDN resulted in an average improvement in both absolute life-years (LYs) and quality-adjusted life-years (QALYs) gained compared with standard of care alone (0.73 LYs and 0.67 QALYs). The overall base-case ICER with uRDN was estimated at £5600 (€6500) per QALY gained (95% confidence interval £5463–£5739 [€6341–€6661]); modelling demonstrated > 99% probability that the ICER is below the £20,000–£30,000 (€23,214–€34,821) per QALYs gained willingness-to-pay threshold in the UK. Results were consistent across sensitivity analyses and validation checks. Multipath is recognized as one of the major error sources for GNSS urban navigation. This study proposes a random forest (RF)-based multipath parameter estimator that uses random forest regression for parameter estimation, thereby mitigating multipath effect by removing the estimated reflected signal components. The proposed estimator is evaluated and compared with the multipath estimation delay-lock loop (MEDLL) for one-multipath and three-multipath cases, respectively. Simulation results demonstrate that the RF-based estimator is less affected by the front-end bandwidth of received signals, compared with MEDLL. The proposed RF-based estimator shows better performance than MEDLL for signals with front-end bandwidths of lower than 6 MHz. In 20 sets of tests on signals with a front-end bandwidth of 10 MHz in the three-multipath case, the RF-based estimator obtains smaller standard deviations than MEDLL. In experiments using real data with a front-end bandwidth of 2 MHz, the RF-based estimator reduces the 2D and 3D positioning errors by 8.5% and 8.7% over 180 epochs, respectively, against the conventional delayed-locked loop (DLL). Since long-term exposure to PM2.5 is a growing concern in Taiwan, therefore, our study aimed to investigate the association between different PM2.5 concentrations and cause-specific mortalities, as well as explore the influence of demographic, socio-economic, and geographic determinants on mortality. Utilizing a Distributed Lag Non-Linear Model (DLNM), we estimated the PM2.5-attributable mortality burden among the elderly population (above 65 years) in Taiwan from 2005 to 2018. Our analysis considered various thresholds defined by the World Health Organization (WHO) to assess the impact of PM2.5 concentrations, ranging from standard Air Quality Guidelines (AQG) levels (0–15 μg/m3) to higher interim targets (up to 80 μg/m3). Our study reveals that achieving AQG levels (< 15 μg/m3) in Taiwan could potentially prevent 5571 elderly deaths, including 889 deaths from CVDs, 934 deaths from RTIs, and 680 deaths from chronic diseases. We observed a rapid increase in attributable deaths at lower PM2.5 concentrations, with a subsequent marginal increase at higher levels of exposure. We also identified several factors that modify the effects of PM2.5 exposures among elderly. For example, we found that higher elderly population ratios and high-income households were associated with an elevated risk of PM2.5-related deaths. In contrast, higher social welfare expenditure, better availability of medical practitioners per square kilometer, and higher forest-to-land ratios were associated with positive effects, indicating their potential in reducing mortality risk. This study fills a knowledge gap by examining the health consequences of varying PM2.5 levels and explored the complex interplay between demographic, socio-economic, and geographic factors in relation to PM2.5-related mortality. Summary: The epidemiological data on osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) in Asia is limited. This study, representing the first comprehensive epidemiological investigation on OI in Taiwan, reveals high medical resource utilization and underscores the importance of early diagnosis to enhance care quality. Introduction: This study examines osteogenesis imperfecta, a hereditary connective tissue disorder causing pediatric fractures and limb deformities, using a nationwide database from Taiwan to analyze clinical features and medical burden. Methods: The study identified validated OI patients from the Catastrophic Illness Registry in the National Health Insurance Research Database from 2008 to 2019. Demographic data and medical resource utilization were analyzed. A multivariate Cox model assessed the influence of sex, validation age, and comorbidities. Results: 319 OI patients (M/F = 153/166) were identified, with 58% validated before age 20. Prevalence and incidence were 0.8–1.3/100,000 and 0.02–0.09/100,000, respectively, with higher rates in the pediatric demographic. In the study period, 69.6% of the patients had admission history, primarily to pediatric and orthopedic wards. The median admission number was 3, with a median length of stay of 12 days and a median inpatient cost of approximately 3,163 USD during the period. Lower limb fractures were the main reason for hospitalization. 57% of OI patients received bisphosphonate treatment. The leading causes of mortality were OI-related deaths, neurovascular disease, and cardiovascular disease. The median age of validation in the non-survival group was significantly higher compared to the survival group (33 vs. 14 years), and patients validated during childhood required more inpatient fracture surgeries than those validated during adulthood. Conclusion: This study provides comprehensive real-world evidence on the clinical characteristics and high medical resource utilization of OI patients in a low prevalence region like Taiwan. Introducion: The malimplantation of the total knee arthroplasty (TKA) components is one of the main reasons for revision surgery. For determining the correct intraoperative femoral rotation several anatomic rotational axes were described in order to achieve a parallel, balanced flexion gap. In this cadaveric study prevalent used rotational femoral axes and a navigated functional rotational axis were compared to the flexion-extension axis defined as the gold standard in rotation for femoral TKA component rotation. Materials and methods: Thirteen body donors with knee osteoarthritis (mean age: 78.85 ± 6.09; eight females and five males) were examined. Rotational computer tomography was performed on their lower extremities pre- and postoperatively. Knee joint arthroplasties were implanted and CT diagnostics were used to compare the preoperatively determined flexion-extension axis (FEA). The FEA is the axis determined by our surgical technique and serves as an internal reference. It was compared to other axes such as (i) the anatomical transepicondylar axis (aTEA), (ii) the surgical transepicondylar axis (sTEA), (iii) the posterior condylar axis (PCA) and (iv) the functional rotation axis (fRA). Results: Examination of 26 knee joint arthroplasties revealed a significant angular deviation (p*** < 0.0001) for all axes when the individual axes and FEA were compared. aTEA show mean angular deviation of 5.2° (± 4.5), sTEA was 2.7° (± 2.2), PCA 2.9° (± 2.3) and the deviation of fRA was 4.3° (± 2.7). A tendency towards external rotation was observed for the relative and maximum axis deviations of the aTEA to the FEA, for the sTEA and the fRA. However, the rotation of the posterior condylar axis was towards inwards. Conclusions: All axes showed a significant angular deviation from the FEA. We conclude that the presented technique achieves comparable results in terms of FEA reconstruction when compared with the use of the known surrogate axes, with certain deviations in terms of outliers in the internal or external rotation. The data on myocardial perfusion of the percutaneous intramyocardial septal radiofrequency ablation (PIMSRA) for obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HOCM) are still lacking, although PIMSRA have been proved to be of great safety and efficacy. The aim of this study was to quantitatively analyze the changes in myocardial perfusion after PIMSRA using myocardial contrast echocardiography (MCE). 27 HOCM patients treated with PIMSRA were retrospectively analyzed, and their echocardiographic parameters and perfusion parameters of MCE were collected before and 12 months after PIMSRA. A reperfusion curve was used to quantify microvascular blood volume (A), microvascular flux rate (β), and microvascular blood flow (MBF) of each segment. Then the value difference (Δ) of parameters between post- and pre-operation were calculated. Finally, the correlation between the changes in MBF and in each echocardiographic parameter was analyzed. (1) Compared with baseline, the global A, β and MBF were significantly increased in HOCM patients after PIMSRA (all P < 0.001). The β, MBF were increased in the interventricular septum (P < 0.001, respectively), and the A, β, MBF were increased in the left ventricular wall (all P < 0.001). (2) Correlation analysis showed that the ΔMBF of interventricular septum was mainly negatively correlated with the maximum interventricular septum thickness (ΔIVSTmax, r=-0.670, P < 0.001), mean interventricular septum thickness (ΔIVSTmean, r=-0.690, P < 0.001), and left ventricular mass index (ΔLVMI, r=-0.774, P < 0.001), while the ΔMBF of left ventricular wall was positively correlated with left ventricular end-diastolic volume index (ΔLVEDVI, r = 0.621, P = 0.001) and stroke volume index (ΔSVI, r = 0.810, P < 0.001). Myocardial perfusion was improved at both interventricular septum and ventricular wall in HOCM patients after PIMSRA. MCE can provide a new dimension for the efficacy evaluation to PIMSRA procedure. Virgibacillus spp. stand out as a potent starter culture for accelerating the fermention of fish sauces and shrimp pastes. However, the underlying molecular mechanisms responsible for their adaptation and biotechnological potential remain elusive. Therefore, the present study focuses on phenotypic and genomic analyses of a halophilic bacterium Virgibacillus dokdonensis T4.6, derived from Vietnamese high-salt fermented shrimp paste. The draft genome contained 4,096,868 bp with 3780 predicted coding sequences. Genome mining revealed the presence of 143 genes involved in osmotic adaptation explaining its resistant phenotype to 24% (w/v) NaCl. Among them, 37 genes making up the complete ectoine metabolism pathway, confirmed its ability to produce 4.38 ± 0.29 wt% ectoine under 12.5% NaCl stress. A significant finding was the identification of 39 genes responsible for an entire degradation pathway of the toxic biogenic amine histamine, which was in agreement with its histamine degradation rate of 42.7 ± 2.1% in the HA medium containing 5 mM histamine within 10 days at 37 °C. Furthermore, 114 proteolytic and 19 lipolytic genes were detected which might contribute to its survival as well as the nutrient quality and flavor of shrimp paste. Of note, a putative gene vdo2592 was found as a possible novel lipase/esterase due to its unique Glycine-Aspartate-Serine-Leucine (GDSL) sequence motif. This is the first report to reveal the adaptative strategies and related biotechnological potential of Virgibacillus associated with femented foods. Charge density waves (CDWs) involved with electronic and phononic subsystems simultaneously are a common quantum state in solid-state physics, especially in low-dimensional materials. However, CDW phase dynamics in various dimensions are yet to be studied, and their phase transition mechanism is currently moot. Here we show that using the distinct temperature evolution of orientation-dependent ultrafast electron and phonon dynamics, different dimensional CDW phases are verified in CuTe. When the temperature decreases, the shrinking of c-axis length accompanied with the appearance of interchain and interlayer interactions causes the quantum fluctuations (QF) of the CDW phase until 220 K. At T < 220 K, the CDWs on the different ab-planes are finally locked with each other in anti-phase to form a CDW phase along the c-axis. This study shows the dimension evolution of CDW phases in one CDW system and their stabilized mechanisms in different temperature regimes. Some materials host multiple charge density wave states, however, their dynamics and the nature of phase transitions are often unclear. Background: Adjuvant nivolumab reduces recurrence in patients with locoregional esophageal cancer who had pathological residual disease after neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy and R0 resection. However, the efficacy of adjuvant anti-PD-1 therapy in patients at higher risk of recurrence remains unclear. Methods: This phase II trial (ClinicalTrials.gov identifier: NCT03322267) enrolled patients with locally advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) received neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy plus esophagectomy but still had various risk factors for recurrence, such as involved or close margins (≤ 1 mm), extranodal extension of the involved lymph nodes, and the ypN2-3 stage. Patients received adjuvant therapy composed of a course of cisplatin-based chemoradiotherapy and pembrolizumab (200 mg, IV every 3 weeks) for 18 cycles. The primary endpoint was 1-year relapse-free survival (RFS) rate. Results: Twenty-five patients were enrolled. The risk factors were tumor margins of ≤ 1 mm (18 patients), extranodal extension of the involved lymph nodes (9 patients), and the ypN2-3 stage (9 patients). The median follow-up duration was 21.6 months (95% CI: 18.7–33.2). The rate of 1-year RFS was 60.0%. The median duration of RFS and overall survival was 14.3 (95% CI: 9.0–19.5) and 21.6 (95% CI: 0.0–45.5) months, respectively. Treatment-emergent adverse events of any grade and those of ≥ 3 grade occurred in 56% and 8% of all patients receiving cisplatin-based chemoradiotherapy and in 79.2% and 12.5% of those receiving pembrolizumab. Conclusions: Adjuvant chemoradiotherapy followed by pembrolizumab is feasible and may be associated with improved 1-year RFS rate in patients at high risk of recurrence after trimodality therapy for locally advanced ESCC. Safety and comfort are among the most crucial factors considered in the automotive industry. Anti-slip control and adaptive cruise control are therefore respectively of interest of the study of automotive technology. These two topics have, however, been studied independently; at the same time, in many promising applications, e.g., autonomous driving, there is a vital need for a system capable of controlling vehicle speed on slippery roads. The objective of this paper is therefore to propose a unified anti-slip cruise control strategy for electric vehicles. The proposed scheme is validated through typical standard driving cycles by software simulation and experiments with signal hardware-in-the-loop system based on the model of a commercial car. The results verify the advantages of the novel control strategy such as the ability to automatically operate the vehicle on a snowy condition road for 1.3 km with low slip ratio range from - 0.04 (deceleration) to 0.06 (acceleration). The present study aims to document the traditional knowledge and the distribution of diverse halophytes used by the coastal community of Vietnam to compensate for the food, fodder, and medicine demands. The information was gathered from the local people, plant traders, and herbalists using a semi-structured questionnaire. The survey indicated the ethnobotanical uses of 11 plant species from 8 families in the targeted area. 60% of studied plants were used in more than two different ways in which the majority of halophytic species possessed medicinal values, followed by being culinary, fodder, roof thatching, handicraft, and growing medium. The main diseases in the regions were joint and stomach pain. According to the mode of preparation, decoction form was the predominance with 64% over all modes. Based on the result, Cocos nucifera L., Portulaca oleracea L., and Suaeda maritima (L.) Dumort. had the highest appearance frequency of 17%. In addition, the seashore was the most prevalent location of halophytes that it was inhabited by 5 out of 11 species. The predominant habit recorded was herbs, followed by shrubs, trees, and vines. In the context of firms' endogenous choice between price and quantity contracts, we show that when firms choose different strategic variables under the destination principle, the government of the quantity-oriented firm imposes a negative commodity tax rate. However, the government of the price-oriented firm imposes a positive commodity tax rate when either (1) the product homogeneity is high enough or (2) the product homogeneity is below a critical level and trade costs are sufficiently low. Under the origin principle, the government of the price-oriented firm provides a higher subsidy than that of the quantity-oriented firm. Regarding the government's decision on the commodity taxation principle, the origin principle may result in Cournot or Bertrand competition, as well as a mixed strategy Cournot–Bertrand competition, as opposed to the destination principle, which only allows for Cournot competition. Associations among cognitive ability, depressive symptoms, and psychological resilience have been found, but the interaction among these variables remains unclear, especially for young adults. The current study aimed to investigate how these variables interact in young adults. A total of 192 participants (97 female) with a mean age of 21.84 years (range 19–30 years) were analyzed for this study. Participants' cognitive ability was assessed by the Taiwanese version of the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA). Depressive status was evaluated by the revision of Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II). Participants with a score of 14 or above were defined as mild-to-severe-depressed (MSD). Otherwise, they were defined as minimal-depressed (MD). For the psychological resilience measurement, a Chinese version of the Resilience Scale for Adults (RSA) was used. Using linear regression adjusted for gender and age, this study found a significant interaction between cognitive ability, depressive status, and psychological resilience in young adults. Specifically, higher cognitive ability was linked to lower resilience in those with MSD, as indicated by a negative relationship (B = −6.519, p =.044). Conversely, in MD individuals, cognitive ability and resilience showed no significant correlation. These findings suggested that depressive status significantly modulates how cognitive ability impacts psychological resilience, emphasizing the importance of customizing mental health interventions based on individual cognitive and emotional profiles. Background: 4-[18F]fluorobenzyl-triphenylphosphonium ([18F]FBnTP) is a lipophilic cation PET tracer. The cellular uptake of [18F]FBnTP is correlated with oxidative phosphorylation by mitochondria, which has been associated with multiple critical diseases. To date, [18F]FBnTP has been successfully applied for imaging myocardial perfusion, assessment of severity of coronary artery stenosis, delineation of the ischemic area after transient coronary occlusion, and detection/quantification of apoptosis in various animal models. Recent preclinical and clinical studies have also expanded the possibilities of using [18F]FBnTP in oncological diagnosis and therapeutic monitoring. However, [18F]FBnTP is typically prepared through a tediously lengthy four-step, three-pot reaction and required multiple synthesizer modules; Thus, such an approach remains a challenge for this promising radiopharmaceutical to be implemented for routine clinical studies. Herein, we report an optimized one-step, one-pot automated approach to produce [18F]FBnTP through a single standard commercially-available radiosynthesizer that enables centralized production for clinical use. Results: The fully automated production of [18F]FBnTP took less than 55 min with radiochemical yields ranging from 28.33 ± 13.92% (non-decay corrected), apparent molar activity of 69.23 ± 45.62 GBq/µmol, and radiochemical purities of 99.79 ± 0.41%. The formulated [18F]FBnTP solution was determined to be sterile and colorless with a pH of 4.0–6.0. Our data has indicated no observable radiolysis after 8 h from the time of final product formulation and maximum assay of 7.88 GBq. Conclusions: A simplified and cGMP-compliant radiosynthesis of [18F]FBnTP has been established on the commercially available synthesizer in high activity concentration and radiochemical purity. While the preclinical and clinical studies using [18F]FBnTP PET are currently underway, the automated approaches reported herein facilitate clinical adoption of this radiotracer and warrant centralized production of [18F]FBnTP for imaging multiple patients. Objective: To understand how diabetes mellitus (DM) diagnosed at different ages of adulthood are associated with various incident subsequent non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Methods: We performed a nationwide population-based analysis comparing 212 participants first diagnosed with DM at 20–39, 40–49, 50–59, or 60–69 years of age, with 17,541 participants without DM history, using data from the Indonesian Family Life Survey. Subsequent NCDs that were examined included hypertension, lung diseases, heart diseases, arthritis, liver diseases, kidney diseases, and digestive diseases. We estimated weighted risk ratios and 95% confidence intervals using Poisson regression, adjusting for age, sex, urbanicity, and tobacco use history. Results: Those diagnosed with DM in all age groups had significantly higher risk of hypertension, compared with those without DM history. Compared with those without DM history, younger individuals with DM diagnosed at 20–39 years of age had significantly higher risks of lung diseases and arthritis, and those with DM diagnosed at 20–49 years of age had significantly higher risk of digestive diseases. Older individuals with DM diagnosed at 40–69 years of age had significantly higher risk of liver diseases, and those with DM diagnosed at 40–59 years of age had significantly higher risk of heart diseases, compared with those without DM history. Participants with DM were diagnosed with subsequent NCDs at younger ages compared with those without DM history. Conclusion: Our findings contribute to health surveillance and may promote beneficial lifestyle changes in those with early-onset and later-onset DM, which can help prevent subsequent NCDs and improve public health. The calcium calmodulin protein kinase II (CaMKII) is a multi-subunit ring assembly with a central hub formed by the association domains. There is evidence for hub polymorphism between and within CaMKII isoforms, but the link between polymorphism and subunit exchange has not been resolved. Here, we present near-atomic resolution cryogenic electron microscopy (cryo-EM) structures revealing that hubs from the α and β isoforms, either standalone or within an β holoenzyme, coexist as 12 and 14 subunit assemblies. Single-molecule fluorescence microscopy of Venus-tagged holoenzymes detects intermediate assemblies and progressive dimer loss due to intrinsic holoenzyme lability, and holoenzyme disassembly into dimers upon mutagenesis of a conserved inter-domain contact. Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations show the flexibility of 4-subunit precursors, extracted in-silico from the β hub polymorphs, encompassing the curvature of both polymorphs. The MD explains how an open hub structure also obtained from the β holoenzyme sample could be created by dimer loss and analysis of its cryo-EM dataset reveals how the gap could open further. An assembly model, considering dimer concentration dependence and strain differences between polymorphs, proposes a mechanism for intrinsic hub lability to fine-tune the stoichiometry of αβ heterooligomers for their dynamic localization within synapses in neurons. Single-particle cryo-EM, aided by simulations, of closed and open hub structures of the calcium calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II shows that the intrinsic hub polymorphism, conserved across isoforms, is due to dimer subunit exchange. Previous studies have investigated the leadership factors that act as predictors of employee thriving. Yet, there is scarce empirical research on leaders' self-serving and ethical behaviors. Thus, this study aims to explore how these behaviors influence employee thriving and proposes interpersonal justice perception as an underlying mediation mechanism. Three-wave web-based surveys are utilized to collect data from 158 participants. The research model is tested using partial least squares structural equation modeling. The results indicate that employees' perception of interpersonal justice mediates the effects of leaders' self-serving and ethical behaviors on employees' learning-thriving. However, employees' perception of interpersonal justice does not mediate their vitality-thriving. These findings reveal that interpersonal justice perception is not equally important for learning-thriving and vitality-thriving. This study represents an original effort to examine employee learning-thriving from the perspective of leaders' self-serving and ethical behaviors. Background: High-protein diets are often enriched with branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) known to enhance protein synthesis and provide numerous physiological benefits, but recent studies reveal their association with obesity and diabetes. In support of this, protein or BCAA supplementation is shown to disrupt glucose metabolism while restriction improves it. However, it is not clear if these are primary, direct effects of BCAAs or secondary to other physiological changes during chronic manipulation of dietary BCAAs. Methods: Three-month-old C57Bl/6 mice were acutely treated with either vehicle/BCAAs or BT2, a BCAA-lowering compound, and detailed in vivo metabolic phenotyping, including frequent sampling and pancreatic clamps, were conducted. Results: Using a catheter-guided frequent sampling method in mice, here we show that a single infusion of BCAAs was sufficient to acutely elevate blood glucose and plasma insulin. While pre-treatment with BCAAs did not affect glucose tolerance, a constant infusion of BCAAs during hyperinsulinemic–euglycemic clamps impaired whole-body insulin sensitivity. Similarly, a single injection of BT2 was sufficient to prevent BCAA rise during fasting and markedly improve glucose tolerance in high-fat-fed mice, suggesting that abnormal glycemic control in obesity may be causally linked to high circulating BCAAs. We further show that chemogenetic over-activation of AgRP neurons in the hypothalamus, as present in obesity, significantly impairs glucose tolerance that is completely normalized by acute BCAA reduction. Interestingly, most of these effects were demonstrated only in male, but not in female mice. Conclusion: These findings suggest that BCAAs per se can acutely impair glucose homeostasis and insulin sensitivity, thus offering an explanation for how they may disrupt glucose metabolism in the long-term as observed in obesity and diabetes. Our findings also reveal that AgRP neuronal regulation of blood glucose is mediated through BCAAs, further elucidating a novel mechanism by which brain controls glucose homeostasis.
