ELISA kits that detect antibodies to the non-structural protein (NSP) of the foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV), commonly referred to as NSP-ELISA, can distinguish between vaccinated and naturally infected animals. They can play an essential role in demonstrating 'proof-of-freedom' during the control of FMD. Although various NSP-ELISA kits are available in Thailand, information regarding their performance is lacking. To select the most appropriate NSP-ELISA kit for our specific purpose, we must compare their performance using carefully characterized sera. This will ensure that we maximize the benefits of our testing. In this study, six NSP-ELISA kits sold in Thailand―Biovet, ID Screen, VDPro, IDEXX, PrioCHECK, and KUcheck-F―were evaluated and compared. A total of 800 serum samples were examined, including samples from 357 cattle and 29 buffaloes in outbreak areas, as well as 14 swine serum samples from the Vaccine Quality Control Unit of the Bureau of Veterinary Biologics, Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperation, Thailand. Four hundred samples were confirmed to originate from animals infected with FMDV through ELISA typing (n = 11, tested as representative samples in each farm) and/or RT-PCR (n = 400, all samples), serving as positive control sera. Additionally, 400 negative control sera were obtained from Japan (97 cattle and 300 pigs) and Australia (3 goats), certified by the World Organisation for Animal Health as 'free of FMD'. The sensitivity and specificity of the six tests were determined based on the results obtained from two-by-two tables. Cohen's kappa statistics were calculated for the six tests to assess their concordance, and the diagnostic accuracy of the assays was also determined. For all six NSP-ELISA kits, the sensitivity ranged from 97.75 to 99.50%, and the specificity ranged from 97.25 to 100%. Cohen's kappa statistics ranged from 0.96 to 1.00, and diagnostic accuracy ranged from 98.13 to 99.75%. The study results indicated that the test kits have statistically similar sensitivity, specificity, concordance, and diagnostic accuracy, suggesting they can be used interchangeably. However, ID Screen demonstrated the highest sensitivity and specificity among all kits tested. Therefore, if a single kit were to be selected from the six evaluated, ID Screen would be the most appropriate choice. These findings can aid in selecting the most suitable test kit. Therefore, it is recommended to consider purchasing a diverse range of effective test kits. Sexualized substance use or "chemsex" may contribute to the HIV epidemic among men who have sex with men (MSM) in Thailand. Specific patterns of chemsex use may be associated with different HIV/STI transmission risks. We examined typologies and correlates of sexualized substance use among a sample of high-risk MSM (n = 532) who had attended a private sex party or circuit party in the past three years using latent class analysis. Multinomial regression was used to adjust for variables associated with the 3-class latent class model. We identified a 3-class model as the best fitting model, which included: (1) "negligible sexualized substance users" (36.7%), who had never engaged in chemsex in the past six months; (2) "sexualized substance users" (13.9%), who had a high level of sexualized alcohol use and a wide range of other substances before or during sex in the past six months; and (3) "exclusive chemsex users" (49.4%), who predominantly used crystal methamphetamine, amyl nitrite, and erectile dysfunctional drugs before or during sex in the past six months. Compared to negligible sexualized substance users, exclusive chemsex users were more likely to be HIV-positive, more likely to have six or more sexual partners in the past six months, less likely to have condom use at last anal intercourse, and more likely to have provided sex work. Relative to negligible sexualized substance users, sexualized substance users reported more frequent online sex-seeking behaviors. Background: Most real-world data on CGRP mAbs have been published from high-income countries such as the USA, Western countries, Japan, Korea, and Singapore. However, data from low- and middle-income countries in Southeast Asia is lacking. This is the first real-world study from Thailand to describe the efficacy of CGRP mAbs therapy in migraine patients and to analyze the response trends between episodic migraine and chronic migraine. Methods: We conducted a single-center, real-world retrospective chart review study with an observation period of 6 months after CGRP mAbs initiation. We aim to compare treatment responses to CGRP mAbs between EM and CM patients. Results: A total of 47 Thai patients were enrolled (median [IQR] age 37.2 [28.6–50.4] years; 85.1%F, 44.7% EM; 70.2% galcanezumab). There was no difference in baseline characteristics and migraine disability assessment (MIDAS) between EM and CM. The overall ≥ 30%, ≥ 50%, and ≥ 70% monthly migraine day reduction rates at 6 months were 89.0%, 71.6%, and 58.5% with higher responders in EM. There was a significant decrease in monthly headache days (MHDs) over time (adjusted β = -0.42, p < 0.001) and a significant decrease in MIDAS score over time after the initiation of CGRP mAbs (adjusted β = -1.12, p = 0.003). However, there were no differences between the two diagnoses. There was no significant decrease in the number of abortive medication pills used over time after the initiation of CGRP mAbs. CM had a significantly steeper trend compared to those with EM. Conclusion: The first real-world study in Thailand demonstrated that CGRP mAbs therapy had efficacy for migraine treatment, as evidenced by a reduction in MHDs, decreased disability, and reduced use of abortive medications. The epidemiology of idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIMs) varies by country. Investigating the epidemiological profile among Thai IIMs could help to inform public health policy, potentially leading to cost-reducing strategies. We aimed to assess the prevalence and incidence of IIM in the Thai population between 2017 and 2020. A descriptive epidemiological study was conducted on patients 18 or older, using data from the Information and Communication Technology Center, Ministry of Public Health, with a primary diagnosis of dermatopolymyositis, as indicated by the ICD-10 codes M33. The prevalence and incidence of IIMs were analyzed with their 95% confidence intervals (CIs) and then categorized by sex and region. In 2017, the IIM cases numbered 9,074 among 65,204,797 Thais, resulting in a prevalence of 13.9 per 100,000 population (95% CI 13.6–14.2). IIMs were slightly more prevalent among women than men (16.8 vs 10.9 per 100,000). Between 2018 and 2020, the incidence of IIMs slightly declined from 5.09 (95% CI 4.92–5.27) in 2017 and 4.92 (95% CI 4.76–5.10) in 2019 to 4.43 (95% CI 4.27–4.60) per 100,000 person-years in 2020. The peak age group was 50–69 years. Between 2018 and 2020, the majority of cases occurred in southern Thailand, with incidence rates of 7.60, 8.34, and 8.74 per 100,000 person-years. IIMs are uncommon among Thais, with a peak incidence in individuals between 60 and 69, especially in southern Thailand. Rasch analysis was employed to investigate the psychometric properties of the World Health Organization Quality of Life-BREF (WHOQOL-BREF) and its shorter versions (EUROHIS-QOL-8 and WHOQOL-5) within the context of patients undergoing warfarin in Thailand. A group of 260 patients were recruited from three public hospitals and tasked with completing the WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire. Rasch analysis showed that the WHOQOL-BREF, structured into four-domain subtests, achieved a commendable fit to the Rasch model (χ2[16] = 12.26, p = 0.73), met the criterion of unidimensionality (7.31% significant t-tests; lower bound confidence interval, 4.66), and demonstrated satisfactory reliability (PSI = 0.87). The adoption of a subtest approach facilitated an acceptable fit to the Rasch model for each domain of the WHOQOL-BREF, except for the social domain. However, the presence of local dependency of the three-item social domain was detected, so the reliability was not reported. The WHOQOL-5 proved to be unidimensional, fitting the Rasch model acceptably, and had satisfactory reliability. Conversely, the EUROHIS-QOL-8 presented local dependency; thus, reliability was not reported. Consequently, the WHOQOL-BREF in its four-domain subtests is recommended for pre- and post-HRQoL measurements, whereas the WHOQOL-5 can effectively measure HRQoL levels in between-group analyses. Rabies is a neglected disease primarily related to dog-mediated transmission to humans. Accurate dog demographic and dynamic data are essential for effectively planning and evaluating population management strategies when designing interventions to prevent rabies. However, in Thailand, longitudinal survey data regarding dog population size are scarce. A school-based participatory research (SBPR) approach was conducted to survey owned dogs for one year in four high-risk provinces (Chiang Rai, Surin, Chonburi, and Songkhla) of Thailand, aiming to understand dog population dynamics and raise awareness about rabies. 'Pupify' mobile application was developed to collect data on dog population and observe the long-term population dynamics in this study. At the end of the data collection period, telephone interviews were conducted to gain insight into contextual perceptions and awareness regarding both animal and human rabies, as well as the social responsibility of dog owners in disease prevention and control. Among 303 high school students who registered in our study, 218 students reported at least one update of their dog information throughout the one-year period. Of 322 owned dogs from our survey, the updates of dog status over one year showed approximately 7.5 newborns per 100-dog-year, while deaths and missing dogs were 6.2 and 2.7 per 100-dog-year, respectively. The male to female ratio was approximately 1.8:1. Twenty-three students (10%) voluntarily participated and were interviewed in the qualitative study. The levels of rabies awareness and precautions among high-school students were relatively low. The high dropout rate of the survey was due to discontinuity in communication between the researcher and the students over the year. In conclusion, this study focused on using the SBPR approach via mobile application to collect data informing dog population dynamics and raising awareness regarding rabies in Thailand Other engaging platforms (e.g. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and other popular applications) is necessary to enhance communication and engagement, thereby sustaining and maintaining data collection. Further health education on rabies vaccination and animal-care practices via social media platforms would be highly beneficial. The association between self-assessed cold threshold (CT) and thermal insulation of clothing (Icl) was analysed in 283 poultry workers in Thailand. The mean CT was 13.5 °C (range − 28–29) and the mean Icl was 1.23 clo (range 0.35–2.21). The adjusted CT remained unchanged at low Icls (0.35 through 1.25 clo) but was estimated to increase by 14.8 °C at high Icls (1.25 through 2.21 clo). Overall, CT was higher by 2.4 °C (95% confidence interval [CI] 0.3–3.8) at high (≥ 1.25 clo) than that at low (< 1.25 clo) Icl, but this difference was modified by personal and work-related factors. The difference was 2.6 °C (CI 0.5–4.6) for older (30–57 y) compared to younger (18–29 y) participants, with an excess of 7.3 °C (CI 5.6–9.0) for low vs high educated participants, 2.6 °C (CI 0.5–4.8) for those doing heavy vs light work, 7.4 °C (CI 3.7–11.0) for alcohol consumers vs others, and 3.4 °C (CI 0.6–6.3) for smokers vs non-smokers. The differences were independent of personal characteristics and worksite physical conditions and were interpreted as increased cold sensitivity among subgroups with lesser stamina and poorer health. Southern Thailand has experienced significant shifts in precipitation patterns in recent years, exerting substantial impacts on regional water resources and infrastructure systems. This study aims to elucidate these changes and underlying factors based on daily precipitation observations from Nakhon Si Thammarat Province spanning 1980 to 2022. Additionally, data from the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 6 (CMIP6) is utilized to investigate projected changes in precipitation for 2015–2100 relative to the historical period (1980–2014), employing a comprehensive analysis considering two emissions scenarios (SSP245 and SSP585) across six models. Various precipitation indices are selected to assess trends and statistical significance using the Mann-Kendall test. Both observed and climate model data indicate an increasing precipitation trend in Southern Thailand, with a reduced association with the El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) under warming conditions. Extreme precipitation indices also exhibit an increasing trend, with total precipitation and the 95th percentile of daily precipitation (R95p) revealing very wet conditions in recent years, projected to continue increasing. Contrastingly, the number of dry days is also mounting, suggesting that both dry and wet extremes will impact Southern Thailand under a warmer climate. The findings from this study provide an early indication of future precipitation and extreme event scenarios, which can inform the development of measures to mitigate climate change-related hazards in the region. Summary: This retrospective study examining hip fracture incidence, hip fracture trends, and the annual hospitalization costs for hip fractures in a population aged 50 years and older within the Universal Health Coverage System revealed that the incidence of hip fractures and the annual hospitalization costs for hip fractures increased significantly from 2013 to 2022. Purpose: To examine the annual incidence of hip fractures over 10 years (2013–2022), hip fracture trends, and the annual hospitalization costs for hip fractures in a population aged 50 years and older within the Universal Health Coverage System. Methods: A retrospective study was conducted. Hip fracture hospitalizations were identified using ICD-10. Data on the number of hip fracture hospitalizations, population aged ≥ 50 years, and hospitalization costs were obtained. The primary outcome was the annual incidence of hip fractures. The secondary outcomes were hip fracture incidence by 5-year age group, the annual hospitalization costs for hip fractures, and the number of hip fractures in 6 regions of Thailand. Results: The hip fracture incidence increased annually from 2013–2019 and then plateaued from 2019–2022, with the crude incidence (per 100,000 population) increasing from 112.7 in 2013 to 146.7 in 2019 and 146.9 in 2022. The age-standardized incidence (per 100,000 population) increased from 116.3 in 2013 to 145.1 in 2019 and remained at 140.7 in 2022. Increases in the crude incidence were observed in both sexes (34% in females and 21% in males; p < 0.05). The annual hospitalization costs for hip fractures increased 2.5-fold, from 17.3 million USD in 2013 to 42.8 million USD in 2022 (p < 0.001). The number of hip fractures increased in all six regions of Thailand across the 10-year study period. Conclusion: Osteoporotic hip fractures are a significant health concern in Thailand. The objective of this study was to use dual-polarimetric radar data to create an hourly hail product, which would then be analyzed using Google Earth Engine (GEE), a cloud computing platform. We used ground-based weather radar from the Thailand Meteorological Department's Chiang Rai station in the north of Thailand. Dual-polarimetric weather radar data were analyzed at 15-minute intervals with Python-based open-source radar libraries such as PyArt and Wradlib. Hydrometeor classification was conducted using simulated atmospheric sounding data obtained from ERA5 reanalysis data, which had been classified into ten classes between 17.00 and 20.00 Local Time. At a 2-kilometer altitude grid, similar hydrometeor types with comparable solid-state characteristics were collected and presented in CAPPI format. Furthermore, we used JavaScript programming to conduct a localized impact study of the hailstorm in GEE in order to prove the preliminary damage assessment concept by comprising sophisticated spatial overlays with land use data, urban regions, farmland, population data, and counts of roofed homes. The analysis results in GEE reveal the potential damaging area prone to hailstorm passage. This is the first attempt in Thailand to create an hourly hailstorm product and integrate it into the Geographic Information System (GIS) using GEE's cloud-based platform. As lawmakers produce norms, the underlying normative system is affected showing the intrinsic dynamism of law. Through undertaken actions of legal change, the normative system is continuously modified. In a usual legislative practice, the time for an enacted legal provision to be in force may differ from that of its inclusion to the legal system, or from that in which it produces legal effects. Even more, some provisions can produce effects retroactively in time. In this article we study a simulation of such process through the formalisation of a temporalised logical framework upon which a novel belief revision model tackles the dynamic nature of law. Represented through intervals, the temporalisation of sentences allows differentiating the temporal parameters of norms. In addition, a proposed revision operator allows assessing change to the legal system by including a new temporalised literal while preserving the time-based consistency. This can be achieved either by pushing out conflictive pieces of pre-existing norms or through the modification of intervals in which such norms can be either in force, or produce effects. Under the assumption that appraisal entails selection of records to be archives in line with the concept of values in archives and what each society values, this article investigates the situation of appraisal in the Thai public sector, where records are not always readily transferred from government agencies to the National Archives of Thailand. The research attempts to identify gaps and seeks to conceive a suitable appraisal system through documentary research (e.g., legislation, manuals, policies and related literature), interviews, and public hearings. The data collected for this research, which was conducted along with dissemination of knowledge on archival appraisal as advocacy for archival appraisal in Thailand, suggest that there is a need to combine records and archives values with existing values in society to make public organization executives and policy makers drive archives into the public agenda. More importantly, it is necessary to build communities and networks that support archival appraisal among information professionals and records creators and across related areas of expertise, such as digital curators and IT specialists. To determine factors affecting successful research and publication among medical students, a cross-sectional survey study was carried out at four Thai medical schools during 2018–2022. Medical students who had previously performed research under research advisors' supervision and their research advisors were included. There were 120 participants, 78 medical students and 42 research advisors. The most common problems reported by the students were student's lack of knowledge of research design (78%) and research topic (53%), while the most common problems reported by the advisors were student's lack of knowledge of research topic (55%) and how to prepare documents for ethics committee approval (48%). The promoting factors for research success commonly reported by the students and advisors were "an advisor helps with protocol writing and reviewing the manuscript", "research teaching in the curriculum", "provision of an example of a written ethics committee protocol", and "arranging a special session so that advisors can talk to students about their research of interest". Among the 78 participating students, 20 (26%) had successfully published their research in journals. These 20 students were more likely than those without publications to be from an institute that had a special research project or conference for medical students (20% vs. 0%,) and to suggest that teaching protocol writing helped in promoting research success (70% vs. 43%). These findings suggest that teaching research, a special research project or conference for medical students, and faculty development of research advising could potentially increase the success rate of students' research publications. In the contemporary educational milieu, blended learning (BL) has emerged as a pivotal modality, especially amidst the global shift towards digitalization. This research aimed to scrutinize the acceptance levels and influential factors of BL among administrators, teachers, and students within Thai primary education, employing the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) as a theoretical framework. Through a methodological lens involving quantitative data collection and analysis, the study unveiled a significant divergence in BL acceptance levels across the participant groups, with administrators and teachers showcasing higher acceptance compared to students. Notably, perceived enjoyment emerged as a crucial factor influencing BL acceptance across all groups, aligning with extant literature. The findings underscore the necessity to enhance BL acceptance among students, potentially through strategies that amplify perceived usefulness and enjoyment. The study contributes to the burgeoning literature on BL, providing insights that could inform the development and implementation of BL strategies in primary education, particularly in contexts similar to Thailand. Future research avenues include exploring additional variables influencing BL acceptance and devising targeted interventions to enhance student acceptance and engagement with BL. Austroasiatic (AA) speakers constitute around 4% of the population of Thailand, while the majority (89.4%) speak Kra-Dai (KD) languages. Previous forensic and population genetic studies in various Thai populations have employed a limited number of short tandem repeats (STRs). This study aims to expand the investigation of the genetic makeup of AA populations in Thailand and their relationship to KD populations using a larger number of autosomal STRs with the VeriFiler™ Plus PCR Amplification Kit. We generated 593 new genotypes from AA-speaking groups and combined them with previously reported data from AA and KD groups. A total of 1,129 genotypes across 23 STR loci were used to construct the largest allelic frequency profile for Thai and Lao populations. However, several loci deviated from Hardy–Weinberg equilibrium, likely due to the reduced genetic diversity in some highland populations, which should be considered in forensic investigations. Beyond forensic applications, our findings reveal genetic differences between AA-speaking groups in Northern and Northeastern Thailand. The AA groups from Northeastern Thailand exhibit greater genetic homogeneity and diversity, likely due to population interactions. In contrast, reduced diversity and increased heterogeneity in AA groups from Northern Thailand are possibly driven by genetic drift and cultural and geographic isolation. In conclusion, we emphasize the usefulness of increasing the number of autosomal STRs in forensic and anthropological genetic studies. Acute myocardial infarction is a silent killer for people worldwide, especially older adults who often experience atypical symptoms, causing late decision-making and a high mortality rate. The unrecognition of atypical symptoms, unconcerned about their risk, and not knowing how to deal with this critical situation are the barriers to a quick decision to visit the emergency department and delaying treatment, resulting in serious adverse outcomes. Therefore, specific and effective health education among older adults is needed. This double-blinded randomized controlled trial explored the effectiveness of health education by applying a role-play promoting decision-making ability program when expecting acute myocardial infarction occurrence among community-dwelling older adults. The participants were 96 community-dwelling older adults in central northeastern Thailand. We collected data between November 2021 and April 2022. The multi-stage sampling was applied to include participants. The intervention was the role-play promoting decision-making ability program and home visit. Outcomes were measured a week before attending and after finishing the intervention. T-tests, Mann–Whitney U test, Chi-square, and Wilcoxon Signed Rank test compared the outcomes between and within groups. Moreover, adjusted analysis was also demonstrated. Results revealed that participants who attended the program improved their knowledge, belief, and decision-making; only perceived susceptibility did not show improvement. Moreover, after demonstrating an adjusted analysis, the program participants had better knowledge about symptoms, perceived benefits, barriers, self-regulation, possible calling 1669, and first action. In conclusion, a role-play promoting decision-making ability program can promote knowledge, belief, and decision-making when expecting acute myocardial infarction occurrence among community-dwelling older adults. This study proved that role-play is one strategy to promote the program's effectiveness by inducing attention before giving older adults health information. As the world moves toward a green economy and sustainable agriculture, bacterial viruses or bacteriophages (phages) become attractive biocontrol agents for controlling crop diseases. Effective utilization of phages in farms requires integrated knowledge of crops, pathogens, phages, and surroundings. Phages must encounter environmental fluctuations, including temperature, and must remain infectious for successful bacteria lysis. This work studied a soilborne RSJ2 phage discovered in Thailand, which can eliminate Ralstonia solanacearum, causing bacterial wilt disease in chili. We investigated how phage infectivity and nanomechanics responded to thermal changes. The plaque-based assay showed that the infectivity of the RSJ2 phage was stable within 24–40 °C, an average temperature fluctuation in tropical regions. The structural examination also showed that the phage remained intact. The nanomechanical property of the phage was inspected by the atomic force microscopy-based nanoindentation. The result revealed that the phage stiffness within 24–40 °C was statistically similar (0.05–0.06 N/m). Upon heating at 40 °C for 1, 5, and 10 h and resting at 25 °C, the stiffness of the phage particles increased to 0.09–0.11 N/m (54–83% increase). The stiffness results suggest structural adaptation of the protein subunits as a response to thermal alteration. The study exhibits that the phage structure is highly dynamic and can nanomechanically respond to varying temperatures. The phage stiffness may reveal insight into phage adaptation to environmental factors. Equipped with the knowledge of phage infectivity, structure, and nanomechanics, we can design practical guidelines for effective phage usage in farming and propelling green and safe agriculture. Background: Among the medications used to treat knee osteoarthritis (OA), oral patented crystalline glucosamine sulfate (pCGS) and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) have become popular alternatives to painkillers or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Although studies have shown that pCGS and PRP improve clinical outcomes, no study has compared outcomes between these optional treatments. We compared functional performance outcomes from baseline to the 1-year follow-up (FU) between oral pCGS and PRP in patients with knee OA. Materials and methods: Three hundred eighty-two patients receiving oral pCGS and 122 patients receiving PRP injections were enrolled for a review of functional performance outcomes, including a five-time sit-to-stand test (5xSST), time up-and-go test (TUGT), and 3-minute walk distance test (3MWDT). The patients were followed up for one year. The pCGS group received 1500 mg daily, whereas the PRP group received 2 cycles of intra-articular injections at week 0 and week 6. Using propensity score matching based on age, sex, height, weight, BMI, and Kellgren and Lawrence (KL) classification, all three functional performance outcomes were compared between the baseline (pretreatment), 6-week, 12-week, 24-week, and 1-year FUs. Results: With a ratio of 2:1 (pCGS: PRP), 204 patients in the pCGS group were matched with 102 patients in the PRP group. Compared with the baseline levels, the PRP group showed significant improvements in 5xSST and TUGT outcomes from 6 weeks and significant improvements in 3MWDT outcomes from 12 weeks, whereas the pCGS group showed significant improvements in TUGT outcomes from 6 weeks and significant improvements in 5xSST and 3MWDT outcomes from 12 weeks. At the 24-week and 1-year FU, both groups showed significant improvements in all three functional performance tests without adverse events. Conclusions: Although the PRP group showed faster improvements in 5xSST outcomes at six weeks, from the 12-week to 1-year FU, both the pCGS and PRP groups showed significant improvements in 5xSST, TUGT, and 3MWDT outcomes. Background: Stroke is the leading cause of long-term disability impacting patients' daily lives. Adequate and ongoing rehabilitation is a necessity. Due to disability problems, rehabilitation in the health care system is limited. Traditional medicine has been promoted in Thailand for stroke rehabilitation, with physical therapy as the primary treatment plan. However, despite more options, many patients still receive inadequate rehabilitation. The development of an appropriate rehabilitation model is still necessary. This study aims to study factors influencing limb movements in post-stroke patients. Methods: This cross-sectional study comprised 120 ischemic stroke patients obtained by multi-stage sampling in Muang district, Phitsanulok province. The data were collected using questionnaires with Cronbach's alpha coefficient of 0.89. The ability to move the muscles of the limbs of the patients was assessed using the motor power assessment form, and binary logistic regression statistics analyzed the factors influencing limb movements. Result: Data analysis shows that 76% of the stroke patients were female, 39.3% aged 61–70 years had a mean of 62 years and a standard deviation (S.D.) of 8.9, 4.6% of stroke patients had a duration of illness of 6–12 months, and 94.2% had a caregiver. 53.1% received rehabilitation once a week, and 92.5% received Thai massage. Thai traditional medicine utilization methods consist of Thai massage, herbal compresses, herbal steam, and taking herbal medicines. There are two factors influencing the ability to move the limb muscles of stroke patients as follows: (1) the massage with the Thai traditional medicine rehabilitation method (Adj OR = 28.917, p-value = 0.006) and (2) the number of rehabilitation sessions per week (Adj OR = 2.465, p-value < 0.001). These two variables explain the variance of regaining limb movement among post-stroke patients of 42.5% at a significance level of 0.05. In this analysis, the predictive accuracy was 70%. Conclusion: Rehabilitation using Thai massage, together with the number of rehabilitation sessions per week, influenced the ability of limb movement in post-stroke patients. Objective: Several population pharmacokinetic models of tacrolimus in liver transplant patients were built, and their predictability was evaluated in their settings. However, the extrapolation in the prediction was unclear. This study aimed to evaluate the predictive performance of published tacrolimus models in adult liver transplant recipients using data from the Thai population as an external dataset. Methods: The selected published models were systematically searched and evaluated for their quality. The external dataset of patients who underwent the first liver transplant and received immediate-release tacrolimus was used to assess the predictive performance of each selected model. Trough concentrations between 3 and 6 months were retrospectively collected to evaluate the predictability of each model using prediction-based diagnostics, simulation-based diagnostics, and Bayesian forecasting. Results: Sixty-seven patients with 360 trough concentrations and eight selected published models were included in this study. None of the models met the predictive precision criteria in prediction-based diagnostics. Meanwhile, four published population pharmacokinetic models showed a normal distribution in NPDE testing. Regarding Bayesian forecasting, all models improved their forecasts with at least one prior information data point. Conclusion: Bayesian forecasting is more accurate and precise than other testing methods for predicting drug concentrations. However, none of the evaluated models provides satisfactory predictive performance for generalization to Thai liver transplant patients. This underscores the need for future research to develop population PK models tailored to the Thai population. Such efforts should consider the inclusion of nonlinear pharmacokinetics and region-specific factors, including genetic variability, to improve model accuracy and applicability. Purpose: To identify predictors and develop a scoring model to predict maternal near-miss (MNM) and maternal mortality. Methods: A case–control study of 1,420 women delivered between 2014 and 2020 was conducted. Cases were women with MNM or maternal death, controls were women who had uneventful deliveries directly after women in the cases group. Antenatal characteristics and complications were reviewed. Multivariate logistic regression and Akaike information criterion were used to identify predictors and develop a risk score for MNM and maternal mortality. Purpose: Ossification of the mamillo-accessory ligament (MAL) results in the formation of a mamillo-accessory foramen (MAF), which is associated with aging. The MAL tethers the medial branches of the lumbar dorsal rami to the lumbar vertebrae. A MAL ossified at the lumbar vertebrae can cause low back pain by compressing the medial branch of a dorsal ramus. Age ranges related to ossification of the MAL have not been reported in previous studies. The objective of the present study was to determine the prevalence of ossification of the MAL in the lumbar column and its relationship to aging, and to measure the newly formed MAF at each level of the lumbar vertebrae. Methods: This study examined 935 dried lumbar vertebrae from 187 donors at Khon Kaen University, Thailand, consisting of 93 females and 94 males. The research focused on ossification patterns of the MAL, categorizing them into three patterns. Results: We found that over 50% of ossified MAL occurred in the 30–45-year-old range and the frequency increased with age. The prevalence of ossified lumbar MAL was 72.73%, especially in L5 on the left side in females (76.92%). The width of the MAF did not differ significantly between the sexes, but it was greater on the left side (2.46 ± 1.08; n = 76) than the right (2.05 ± 0.95; n = 72) (p = 0.016). Conclusion: Ossification of the MAL into the MAF progresses with age, leading to low back pain from nerve compression. Rastrelliger brachysoma (Bleeker, 1851), the short mackerel, is a dietary staple and of significant economic demand in Southeast Asia and Thailand. However, the demand for short mackerel has precipitated an overfishing crisis, leading to a depletion of fish stocks. Overfishing, coupled with parasitism, may result in a decline in the population of R. brachysoma. Digenetic trematode infection is prevalent in marine fish and has a considerable impact on the overall health of the fish. Here, to identify digenetic trematodes infecting R. brachysoma, we aim to determine the identity, prevalence, and intensity of digenean infections in R. brachysoma from the Gulf of Thailand. A total of 194 short mackerel were obtained from Chon Buri Province, where digeneans were isolated and identified. The molecular identity of the digeneans was confirmed using the nuclear 28S rRNA gene. Of the 194 short mackerel, 100% were found to be infected with digeneans, comprising of Lecithocladium, Prodistomum, Opechona, and Aphanurus. Lecithocladium was the most prevalent (98%) and had the highest intensity of infection (37 mean intensity), followed by Prodistomum (75% prevalence and 17 mean intensity). Our study thus presents the first evidence of digeneans infecting the economically important short mackerel from the Gulf of Thailand. The high infection rate of digenetic trematodes may have implications on the health of R. brachysoma, further driving their population decline. These data underscore the importance of safeguarding fisheries resources in the Gulf of Thailand, and downstream conservation efforts are crucial for evidence-based management decisions to safeguard the long-term sustainability of fish resources. Given the environmental and socioeconomic challenges associated with monoculture rubber plantations, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) emphasized the importance of utilizing and protecting crop diversity for sustainable development of rubber industry in Thailand. However, the adoption of such technology remains relatively low that makes rubber crop diversity highly controversy in Thailand. Based on data collected from 2,159 rubber households between 2012 and 2014, this study aims to investigate the impacts of crop diversity adoption on the net income of rubber farmers in Thailand by using propensity score matching models. The findings reveal that adopting rubber crop diversity has a statistically significant negative effect on rubber farmers' net income. Specifically, those engaged in rubber crop diversity experience a lower net income per person ranging from − 11,785.29 baht to -10,887.21 baht comparing their counterparts practicing monoculture rubber farming. Furthermore, such significant negative effects are exclusively observed among smallholders and rubber farmers in southern regions. Given the implementation of rubber crop diversity system usually grants environmental benefits to the local eco-systems as positive externalities without market rewards, it is imperative to provide additional incentives and support mechanisms to steam up wider adoption of rubber crop diversity for ensuring long-term sustainability of rubber industry in Thailand. Ankylosing spondylitis (AS), an inflammatory condition affecting axial and peripheral joints, exhibits varying prevalence worldwide. This study sought to ascertain AS incidence and prevalence in Thailand from 2017 to 2020. Utilizing national databases, individuals aged 18 and above with primary AS diagnoses (ICD-10 code M45) were identified. AS prevalence and incidence were calculated with 95% confidence intervals. The total number of AS patients was 13,292 patients in 2017. The prevalence of AS was 20.4 per 100,000 populations (95% CI 20.0–20.7) in 2017. The number of new AS cases, identified during 2018–2020, was 6784, 6805, and 6791 patients, respectively. The incidences of AS in 2018, 2019, and 2020 were comparable with the incidence of 10.4 (95% CI 10.1–10.6) per 100,000-person-years. The peak age at diagnosis was 50–59 years of age between 2018 and 2020. The number of female patients was 57.8%, 57.0%, and 57.6%, in 2018, 2019, and 2020, respectively. In conclusion, AS was relatively rare among Thais and comparable between males and females. The prevalence and incidence of AS in Thailand were identified by the Thailand Database Ministry of Public Health. Summary: The current study aimed to investigate the prevalence trends of osteoporosis from 2003 to 2022 using data from the largest tertiary care referral center hospital in Northeastern Thailand. We reviewed 36,306 bone mineral density measurements of community-dwelling individuals aged > 45 years from the medical record database of Srinagarind Hospital, Khon Kaen, Thailand, between 2003 and 2022. We observed a significant increase in the crude prevalence of osteoporosis from 2003 to 2022. Meanwhile, the age-standardized prevalence increased more gradually. Purpose: To investigate the prevalence trends of osteoporosis from 2003 to 2022 using data from the largest tertiary care referral center in Northeastern Thailand. Methods: Bone mineral density (BMD) measurements of community-dwelling individuals aged > 45 years were reviewed from the medical record database of Srinagarind Hospital, Khon Kaen, Thailand, between 2003 and 2022. Osteoporosis was defined by a T-score of ≤ − 2.5. For each year, crude and age-standardized prevalence rates for osteoporosis stratified by site of measurement were calculated. Trend analysis was performed using the joinpoint regression method. Results: A total of 36,306 BMD measurements were identified between 2003 and 2022. The crude prevalence of femoral neck (FN) osteoporosis increased from 2.4% to 9.2% in men and from 2.5% to 11.2% in women, while the age-standardized prevalence increased less, from 2.6% to 8.3% in men, and slightly decreased from 8.7% to 7.6% in women. Trend analysis revealed increased crude and age-standardized prevalence rates of FN osteoporosis in men, with an annual percent change (APC) of 4.0 (95%CI: − 4.1 to 14.7) and 2.3 (95%CI: − 4.9 to 10.0), respectively. In women, the crude prevalence increased significantly from 2003 to 2011 (APC: 20.8, 95%CI: 5.8–249.3) and plateaued from 2011 to 2022 (APC: 0.8, 95%CI: − 30.3 to 5.9). The age-standardized prevalence was relatively unchanged (APC: 0.1, 95%CI: − 4.2 to 5.4). The surge in mobile colistin-resistant genes (mcr) has become an increasing public health concern, especially in carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales (CRE). Prospective surveillance was conducted to explore the genomic characteristics of clinical CRE isolates harbouring mcr in 2015–2020. In this study, we aimed to examine the genomic characteristics and phonotypes of mcr-8 and mcr-9 harbouring carbapenem-resistant K. pneumoniae complex (CRKpnC). Polymerase chain reaction test and genome analysis identified CRKpnC strain AMR20201034 as K. pneumoniae (CRKP) ST147 and strain AMR20200784 as K. quasipneumoniae (CRKQ) ST476, harbouring mcr-8 and mcr-9, respectively. CRKQ exhibited substitutions in chromosomal-mediated colistin resistance genes (pmrB, pmrC, ramA, and lpxM), while CRKP showed two substitutions in crrB, pmrB, pmrC, lpxM and lapB. Both species showed resistance to colistin, with minimal inhibitory concentrations of 8 µg/ml for mcr-8-carrying CRKP isolate and 32 µg/ml for mcr-9-carrying CRKQ isolate. In addition, CRKP harbouring mcr-8 carried blaNDM, while CRKQ harbouring mcr-9 carried blaIMP, conferring carbapenem resistance. Analysis of plasmid replicon types carrying mcr-8 and mcr-9 showed FIA-FII (96,575 bp) and FIB-HI1B (287,118 bp), respectively. In contrast with the plasmid carrying the carbapenemase genes, the CRKQ carried blaIMP-14 on an IncC plasmid, while the CRKP harboured blaNDM-1 on an FIB plasmid. This finding provides a comprehensive insight into another mcr-carrying CRE from patients in Thailand. The other antimicrobial-resistant genes in the CRKP were blaCTX-M-15, blaSHV-11, blaOXA-1, aac(6′)-Ib-cr, aph(3′)-VI, ARR-3, qnrS1, oqxA, oqxB, sul1, catB3, fosA, and qacE, while those detected in CRKQ were blaOKP-B-15, qnrA1, oqxA, oqxB, sul1, fosA, and qacE. This observation highlights the importance of strengthening official active surveillance efforts to detect, control, and prevent mcr-harbouring CRE and the need for rational drug use in all sectors. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a major global public health issue and the leading cause of death in Thailand. This study investigated the spatial–temporal association between PM2.5 and its components (organic carbon, black carbon, dust, sulfate, and sea salt) and CKD mortality in Thailand from 2012 to 2021. The Modern-Era Retrospective analysis for Research and Application version 2 (MERRA-2), a NASA atmospheric satellite model, was assessed for the temporal data of PM2.5 concentration and aerosol components. Spatial resources of 77 provinces were integrated using the Geographical Information System (GIS). Multivariate Poisson regression and Bayesian inference analyses were conducted to explore the effects of PM2.5 on CKD mortality across the provinces. Our analysis included 718,686 CKD-related deaths, resulting in a mortality rate of 1107 cases per 100,000 population where was the highest rate in Northeast region. The average age of the deceased was 72.43 ± 13.10 years, with males comprising 50.46% of the cases. Adjusting for age, sex, underlying diseases, co-morbidities, CKD complications, replacement therapy, population density, and income, each 1 µg/m3 increase in PM2.5, black carbon, dust, sulfate, and organic carbon was significantly associated with increased CKD mortality across 77 provinces. Incidence rate ratios were 1.04 (95% CI 1.03–1.04) for PM2.5, 1.11 (95% CI 1.10–1.13) for black carbon, 1.24 (95% CI 1.22–1.25) for dust, 1.16 (95% CI 1.16–1.17) for sulfate, and 1.05 (95% CI 1.04–1.05) for organic carbon. These findings emphasize the significant impact of PM2.5 on CKD mortality and underscore the need for strategies to reduce PM emissions and manage CKD co-morbidities effectively. The objective of this research was to examine QR code payment acceptance during the COVID-19 outbreak in Thailand. A comprehensive research model answering QR code payment users' intentional behavior was insufficient to some extent. Moreover, the recent pandemic crisis has increased the perceived susceptibility to COVID-19. To explore the behavioral intention during the unprecedented time more thoroughly, the technology acceptance model was extended with the subjective norm, facilitating conditions, personal innovativeness, perceived susceptibility, and perceived security. The data were collected from 384 QR payment users and the final sample was 377. The IBM SPSS Statistics and Amos programs version 28 have been utilized for data analysis. Besides, the structural equation modeling was applied to test the structural relationship and hypotheses. The results confirmed that perceived usefulness, facilitating conditions, personal innovativeness, and perceived security have a significant influence on the behavioral intention to use QR code payment. Notwithstanding, perceived ease of use, subjective norm, and perceived susceptibility had an insignificant impact on behavioral intention. The influence of perceived susceptibility on behavioral intention was rejected due to the users had a high familiarity and previous experience before the epidemic. This research paper practically contributed to the retail businesses, online applications and platforms, commercial banks and digital payment application providers, digital payment methods, and the Thailand government. Melioidosis is an often-fatal neglected tropical disease caused by an environmental bacterium Burkholderia pseudomallei. However, our understanding of the disease-causing bacterial lineages, their dissemination, and adaptive mechanisms remains limited. To address this, we conduct a comprehensive genomic analysis of 1,391 B. pseudomallei isolates collected from nine hospitals in northeast Thailand between 2015 and 2018, and contemporaneous isolates from neighbouring countries, representing the most densely sampled collection to date. Our study identifies three dominant lineages, each with unique gene sets potentially enhancing bacterial fitness in the environment. We find that recombination drives lineage-specific gene flow. Transcriptome analyses of representative clinical isolates from each dominant lineage reveal increased expression of lineage-specific genes under environmental conditions in two out of three lineages. This underscores the potential importance of environmental persistence for these dominant lineages. The study also highlights the influence of environmental factors such as terrain slope, altitude, and river direction on the geographical dispersal of B. pseudomallei. Collectively, our findings suggest that environmental persistence may play a role in facilitating the spread of B. pseudomallei, and as a prerequisite for exposure and infection, thereby providing useful insights for informing melioidosis prevention and control strategies. Purpose: To evaluate the changes in contact characteristics of the tibiofemoral joint resulting from a meniscal ramp lesion in the medial meniscus. Methods: Twelve cadaveric knees (six matched pairs) were subjected to a 600 N axial load using a custom testing jig, which allowed for knee positioning at 0°, 45°, and 90° of flexion without other constraints. The knees were randomly assigned to either a ramp lesion group (n = 6) or a posterior root lesion group (n = 6). Four testing conditions were examined: (1) intact, (2) isolated ramp lesion, (3) isolated posterior root tear of the medial meniscus, and (4) combined ramp lesion and posterior root tear of the medial meniscus. Contact characteristics were evaluated using a flexible pressure sensor, the I-Scan System. Results: Peak contact pressure in isolated ramp lesions (4.15 ± 0.98 MPa, P = 0.206) showed non-significant increases compared to the intact condition (3.86 ± 1.32 MPa). Peak contact pressure in isolated posterior root tears (4.58 ± 1.70 MPa, P = 0.040) and, combined ramp and posterior root lesions (4.67 ± 1.47 MPa, P = 0.003) were significantly higher than that in the intact condition. The knee flexion position significantly affected the medial tibiofemoral joint's contact area, contact pressure, and peak contact pressure (P < 0.001 for all). Conclusion: Isolated ramp lesions did not significantly impact force transmission, contact area, or contact pressure. In contrast, isolated root lesions and combined ramp and posterior root tears of the medial meniscus significantly intensified the changes in contact characteristics in the medial tibiofemoral joint compared to the intact condition. Evidence has suggested that either labile organic carbon (OC) or stable OC play a role in improving aggregate stability. Therefore, this study determined the OC fractions in water stable aggregates (WSA) and their contribution to the formation of the WSA in paddy soils, on the Central Plain of Thailand. Analysis of the OC fractions in the WSA was determined using wet oxidation with hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). The chemical composition of the organic compounds in the WSA was investigated using Fourier transform mid-infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. The results showed that the WSA content of the studied soils significantly increased with increasing organic and inorganic cementing/flocculating agents, such as soil organic carbon, clay, polyvalent cations, and sesquioxides. The labile OC and stable OC contents in the WSA also significantly increased with increased WSA content, suggesting the physical protection of OC fractions against microbial decomposition. The FT-IR analysis revealed that labile OC in the WSA, both before and after wet oxidation with H2O2, was dominated by polysaccharides, supporting the physical protection of labile OC by the WSA. Paddy soils containing higher organic and inorganic cementing/flocculating agents had higher stable OC, such as hydrophobic aromatic compounds, in the WSA, compared to paddy soils containing lower organic and inorganic cementing/flocculating agents. In turn, the WSA content of the soils in this study significantly increased with increases in the hydrophobic aromatic compounds in the WSA, suggesting the important role of stable hydrophobic organic compounds in enhancing the formation and stabilization of soil aggregates in these paddy soils. Ecophysiological studies of lichens in tropical Asia are rare, and additional studies can increase the understanding of lichen life in this region. The main aim of this study was to observe the relationships between water availability and photosynthetic parameters, as well as hydration trait parameters, in macrolichens during the rainy and dry seasons in a tropical forest. A total of 11 lichen species growing in a lower montane rainforest in Thailand were collected and studied. The results clearly showed that the specific thallus mass (STM), net photosynthetic rate (Pn), the potential quantum yield of primary photochemistry (Fv/Fm), chlorophyll content, and carotenoid content of almost all lichens were lower in the dry season than in the rainy season. Field measurements in the dry season revealed that only the foliose chlorolichen Parmotrema tinctorum was metabolically active and exhibited slight carbon assimilation. In the rainy season, all lichens started their photosynthesis in the early morning, reached maximal values, declined, and ceased when the thalli desiccated. The photosynthetically active period of the lichens was approximately 2–3 h in the morning, and the activities of the cyanolichens ended approximately 30 min after the chlorolichens. The hydration trait parameters, including the STM, maximal water content (WCmax), and water holding capacity (WHC), were greater in the cyanolichens. In addition, the maximal Pn (Pnmax) and optimal water content (WCopt) for Pn were also greater in the cyanolichens, but the maximal Fv/Fm (Fv/Fmmax) was lower. The cyanolichens compensated for their inability to use humid air to restore photosynthesis by having higher water content and storage, higher photosynthetic rates, and longer photosynthetically active periods. We study the circuit diameter of polyhedra, introduced by Borgwardt, Finhold, and Hemmecke (SIAM J. Discrete Math. 29(1), 113–121 (2015)) as a relaxation of the combinatorial diameter. We show that the circuit diameter of a system { x ∈ R n : A x = b , 0 ≤ x ≤ u } for A ∈ R m × n is bounded by O (m min { m , n - m } log (m + κ A) + n log n) , where κ A is the circuit imbalance measure of the constraint matrix. This yields a strongly polynomial circuit diameter bound if e.g., all entries of A have polynomially bounded encoding length in n. Further, we present circuit augmentation algorithms for LPs using the minimum-ratio circuit cancelling rule. Key message: The major QTL Sdp1.1+ controlling seed dormancy in cowpea was finely mapped, and two CCoAOMT1 genes were identified as candidate genes for the dormancy. Seed dormancy in wild cowpea may be useful in breeding cultivated cowpea with pre-harvest sprouting resistance. A previous study identified a major quantitative trait locus (QTL) for seed dormancy, Sdp1.1+ , using the population of the cross between cultivated cowpea 'JP81610' and wild cowpea 'JP89083.' However, the molecular basis of seed dormancy in cowpea is not yet known. In this study, we aimed to finely map the locus Sdp1.1+ and identify candidate gene(s) for it. Germination tests demonstrated that the seed coat is the major factor controlling seed dormancy in the wild cowpea JP89083. Microscopic observations revealed that wild cowpea seeds, unlike cultivated cowpea seeds, possessed a palisade cuticle layer. Fine mapping using a large F2 population of the cross JP81610 × JP89083 grown in Thailand revealed a single QTL, Sdp1.1+ , controlling seed dormancy. The Sdp1.1+ was confirmed using a small F2 population of the same cross grown in Japan. The Sdp1.1+ was mapped to a 37.34-Kb region containing three genes. Two closely linked genes, Vigun03g278900 (VuCCoAOMT1a) and Vigun03g290000 (VuCCoAOMT1b), located 4.844 Kb apart were considered as candidate genes for seed dormancy. The two genes encoded caffeoyl coenzyme A O-methyltransferase 1 (CCoAOMT1). DNA sequencing and alignment of VuCCoAOMT1a and VuCCoAOMT1b between JP89083 and JP81610 revealed a single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) causing an amino acid change in VuCCoAOMT1a and several SNPs leading to six amino acid changes in VuCCoAOMT1b. Altogether, these results indicate that VuCCoAOMT1a and VuCCoAOMT1b are candidate genes controlling physical seed dormancy in the wild cowpea JP89083. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Mansonia uniformis (Diptera: Culicidae) is recognized as a vector of Brugia malayi and has been reported to transmit Wuchereria bancrofti, both causing lymphatic filariasis in humans. This study employed geometric morphometrics (GM) to investigate wing shape variation and analyzed genetic diversity through cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (COI) gene analyses in Ma. uniformis populations across Thailand. Wing GM analyses indicated significant differences in wing shape based on Mahalanobis distances among nearly all population pairs (p < 0.05), with no significant correlation between wing shape and geographic distance (r = 0.210, p > 0.05). Genetic analyses identified 63 haplotypes and 49 polymorphic sites, with the overall population exhibiting a nucleotide diversity of 0.006 (± 0.001) and a haplotype diversity of 0.912 (± 0.017). Deviations from neutrality, as indicated by Tajima’s D and Fu’s FS tests for the overall Ma. uniformis populations in Thailand, were statistically significant and negative, suggesting population expansion (both p < 0.05). Analysis of molecular variance revealed no significant genetic structure when all populations were categorized based on collection sites and geographic regions. However, significant differences in FST values were observed between some populations. These findings enhance our understanding of the geographical and genetic factors influencing Ma. uniformis populations, which are crucial for developing effective control strategies in Thailand. Opisthorchis viverrini infection is a pressing health issue in rural Southeast Asia and is associated with the risk of cholangiocarcinoma. Despite control efforts, high infection rates persist, including evidence of reinfection post-treatment. This study aimed to address this public health concern through an integrated One-Health approach in endemic areas in rural Thailand over a 3-year period. The study included data from 3600 participants from Udon Thani Province, Thailand, during the years 2020 to 2022 and involved integrated epidemiological data collection and risk factor analysis to understand the impact of various interventions on disease transmission in the community. The efficacy of interventions was assessed by monitoring the incidence of O. viverrini reinfection in 2021 and 2022. In 2020, 218 cases of O. viverrini infection (6.0%) were identified. Significant risk factors included proximity to water bodies and consumption of raw fish. Variables contributing to infection risk among participants (P < 0.001) were education level, engagement in traditional ceremonies, poor sanitation, absence of ducks in nearby water bodies, self-medication for parasitic conditions, and multiple infections within a household. Dogs, cats, and cyprinoid fish showed prevalence rates of 5.4%, 6.3%, and 11.5%, respectively. Geographic analysis revealed clusters of infected households around water bodies. Interventions, including in-depth interviews, focus-group discussions, health education, anthelminthic treatment, and biological control using local free-range ducks, were implemented, resulting in no human reinfections in the second year and a minimal 0.3% prevalence rate in the third year. This study offers valuable insights into the dynamic changes in infection prevalence, making a significant contribution to effective disease control and community health promotion. The Mekong giant catfish Pangasianodon gigas is endemic to the Mekong River and is one of the largest freshwater fish. This critically endangered species is a popular food for local people and a commercially essential fishery resource. Ecological knowledge of this catfish is required to conserve it. However, its ecology has not yet been well studied. We monitored the food intake of the Mekong giant catfish in a stable aquarium for over 13 years. We analyzed their feeding rhythms and fasting periods. The feeding rhythm (circannual rhythm) of the Mekong giant catfish over 13 years and its temporal variations were revealed. Four of the six catfish showed feeding cycles that extended more than one year (395.7 days). Five of the six catfish showed prolonged fasting periods over 30 consecutive days. These patterns coincide with the wet/dry seasons in Thailand, corresponding to the abundance of catfish food resources (Cladophora spp.). Furthermore, it is suggested that the Mekong catfish has acquired the physiological ability to tolerate a fasting state for about 1 year, possibly because this species may have survived many critical situations in the Mekong River in the past, such as food insufficiency. At the same time, however, this also indicates that the fish is highly dependent on Cladophora spp. as a food item and may not be able to substitute other food items. From these, reductions in food items or feeding habitats for catfish after damming in many places of the Mekong River basin may decrease the population size of this species. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study explores the differences in preschool teachers' perceptions of classroom rules in a cross-cultural context, to help preschool teachers cope with cultural differences and construct appropriate classroom rules. The study conducted semi-structured interviews with 26 in-service preschool teachers from China and Thailand. The findings indicated that teachers' perceptions of the functional significance of classroom rules were generally consistent between the two countries, and that differences existed in the perceptions of the sources, settings, and implementation of rules, and that teachers' perceptions were closely related to their practice experiences and developmental levels. This study provides a novel contribution by investigating how cultural nuances shape preschool teachers' perspectives on classroom rules in China and Thailand, it unveils distinct insights into educational practices, contributing to cross-cultural understanding and offering practical implications for effective teaching strategies in diverse contexts. Teachers' perceptions of classroom rule violations in the face of young children had both similarities and differences, as well as different ways of dealing with them. It has been shown that despite the increasing prevalence of intercultural learning among younger learners, teachers' perceptions and implementation of intercultural teaching and learning are not adequate. By analyzing preschool teachers' perceptions of classroom rules in China and Thailand, we argue that understanding the cultural differences between the two countries and focusing on the educational culture of the target country can effectively help teachers establish and implement rules while helping young children understand them. Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is emerging globally as a significant problem. The mainstay of treatment is lifestyle intervention (LSI). We hypothesized that providing information regarding LSI and MASLD through a social media application generally used in the respective society would improve clinical outcomes in MASLD more than standard of care (SOC). This is a randomized controlled study in noncirrhotic MASLD patients aged 18–65 years in Thailand. Eligible patients were randomly assigned to either the control (SOC) or intervention arm. Patients in both groups received standard LSI advice. Infographics about MASLD and LSI information were sent to the intervention group every 3–7 days via the LINE official account. The outcomes are changes in liver steatosis and liver stiffness by FIBROSCAN at 24 weeks, as well as weight loss, body composition, and serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT) level between the two groups. A total of 122 patients were enrolled. The median age of eligible participants was 53 years, 64.7% were female, and median body mass index was 27.3 kg/m2. After a complete 24-week study period, both groups had an improvement in weight, ALT level, liver steatosis, and fat mass, but the differences in those changes between groups were not statistically significant. Interestingly, a significant improvement in liver stiffness was observed in the intervention group than in the control group (− 0.7 ± 1.8 kPa vs. 0.1 ± 2.4 kPa, P = 0.035). Encouraging LSI and delivering MASLD information via a social media application (LINE official account) to patients with MASLD demonstrated a better outcome of liver stiffness measurement than SOC. The semislug Megaustenia siamensis, commonly found in Thailand, is notable for its exceptional capacity to produce biological adhesives, enabling it to adhere to tree leaves even during heavy rainfall. In this study, we generated the first reference genome for M. siamensis using a combination of three sequencing technologies: Illumina's short-read, Pac-Bio's HIFI long-read, and Hi-C. The assembled genome size was 2593 billion base pairs (bp), containing 34,882 protein-coding genes. Our analysis revealed positive selection in pathways associated with the ubiquitin–proteasome system. Furthermore, RNA sequencing of foot and mantle tissues unveiled the primary constituents of the adhesive, including lectin-like proteins (C-lectin, H-lectin, and C1q) and matrilin-like proteins (VWA and EGF). Additionally, antimicrobial peptides were identified. The comprehensive M. siamensis genome and tissue-specific transcriptomic data provided here offer valuable resources for understanding its biology and exploring potential medical applications. The 18-item version of the Experiences in Close Relationships-revised (ECR-R-18) is a valid and reliable scale used among Thai adolescents. However, it revealed problematic items that impacted the scale's internal consistency. The study aimed to achieve two objectives: (1) develop a new, shorter scale by retaining only highly loaded items equally between attachment anxiety and attachment avoidance, and (2) evaluate the psychometric properties of the shorter ECR-R version compared to the existing 18-item scale. Objective 1 was achieved through Study 1, involving 204 youths aged 16–18 years (64% female). All participants completed the 18-item ECR-R, and exploratory factor analysis was conducted to identify suitable items for the new ECR-R-AD. Objective 2 was fulfilled in Study 2, which included a total of 443 students in grades aged 15–18 years old (88% female) from Thai boarding schools in Northern Thailand. All participants completed both the 18-item ECR-R, and confirmatory factor analysis of both the existing 18-item and the new shorter scale was performed and compared. Additional measures including the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, Perceived Stress Scale-10, and Relationship Questionnaire were completed alongside the ECR-R to assess convergent, discriminant, and criterion validity. The invariance test for the new ECR-R across genders was conducted using multigroup confirmatory factor analysis. For objective 1, Study 1 developed a new scale called "ECR-R-10-AD" with 10 items, comprising 5 for attachment anxiety and 5 for attachment avoidance. The McDonald's omega values were 0.866 for avoidance and 0.823 for anxiety subscales. The corrected correlation between the ECR-R-18 and ECR-R-10-AD was significant. For objective 2, Study 2 found that the first-order two-factor solution model fit the data best for the ECR-R-10-AD. Convergent, discriminant, and criterion validity with other measurements and invariance tests based on sex were established for the ECR-R-AD. The ECR-R-10-AD provided sufficient psychometric properties among Thai adolescents. Factorial validity, convergent validity, and measurement invariance were established. Severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome virus (SFTSV) is an emerging tick-borne virus with a mortality rate of up to 30%. First identified in China in 2009, it was later reported in other Asian countries, including Thailand in 2020. SFTSV has been detected in several tick species, including Rhipicephalus sanguineus, known for infesting dogs. We conducted a seroprevalence study of SFTSV in Bangkok and Nong Khai, Thailand, by analyzing 1162 human samples collected between 2019 and 2023. The testing method relied on IgG detection using ELISA and confirmed though a virus seroneutralization test. The results indicated that out of the participants, 12 (1.1%) tested positive for anti-SFTSV IgG antibodies; however, none exhibited positive results in the seroneutralization assay. Additionally, molecular detection of SFTSV, Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF), Coxiella spp., Bartonella spp., and Rickettsia spp. was performed on 433 Rh. sanguineus ticks collected from 49 dogs in 2023 in Chachoengsao Province, Thailand. No evidence of these pathogens was found in ticks. These findings highlight the importance of exploring viral cross-reactivity. Furthermore, it is important to conduct additional studies to isolate SFTSV from animals and ticks in order to identify the potential transmission routes contributing to human and animal infections in Thailand. Physella acuta is a freshwater snail native to North America. Understanding the phylogeography and genetic structure of P. acuta will help elucidate its evolution. In this study, we used mitochondrial (COI and 16S rDNA) and nuclear (ITS1) markers to identify the species and examine its genetic diversity, population structure, and demographic history of P. acuta in Thailand. Phylogenetic and network analyses of P. acuta in Thailand pertained to clade A, which exhibits a global distribution. Analysis of the genetic structure of the population revealed that the majority of pairwise comparisons showed no genetic dissimilarity. An isolation-by-distance test indicates no significant correlation between genetic and geographical distances among P. acuta populations, suggesting that gene flow is not restricted by distance. Demographic history and haplotype network analyses suggest a population expansion of P. acuta, as evidenced by the star-like structure detected in the median-joining network. Based on these results, we concluded that P. acuta in Thailand showed gene flow and recent population expansion. Introduction: There are limited data on the burden of newly diagnosed patients with heart failure (HF) in Thailand. Thus, this study aimed to fully understand the hospitalization, rehospitalization, mortality rates, demographics and characteristics, and quality of care in these patients. Method: A retrospective review of all eligible adult patients' medical records from 2018 and 2019 was conducted at five hospitals. The patients were newly diagnosed with HF, as indicated by the International Classification of Diseases (ICD)-10 code "I50." Descriptive statistics was used to investigate patients' hospital burden and clinical outcome data. Results: There were 1134 patients newly diagnosed with HF, classified as HF with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF), HF with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF), and HF with mildly reduced ejection fraction (HFmrEF) (44.0, 40.0, and 16.0%, respectively). The male-to-female ratios in HFmrEF and HFpEF were similar. In contrast, the proportion of men with HFrEF was greater. The mean age of all patients was 66.0 years. The hospitalization rate was 1.3. Rehospitalization rates for HF-related issues were 0.1, 0.2, 0.4, and 0.5 at 30 days, 60 days, 180 days, and 1 year, respectively. The percentage of deaths from all causes among these patients was 9.8%, while the percentage of deaths from cardiovascular-related causes was 8.5%. Only a small proportion of patients received a target dose of guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT). Conclusions: The study revealed that the characteristics, hospitalization rate for HF, and in-hospital mortality rate among newly diagnosed patients with HF were higher compared to similar studies conducted in Thailand and other countries. Introduction: Heart failure (HF) is one of the leading causes of hospitalization worldwide. In Thailand, data on HF burden remains limited. This study aimed to describe comprehensive evidence detailing the HF prevalence, hospital admission rates, in-hospital mortality, and overall mortality rates at the hospital level. Method: All eligible adult patients' medical records from 2018 and 2019 were analyzed retrospectively at five hospitals in different regions. The patients were diagnosed with HF, as indicated by the International Classification of Diseases (ICD)-10 code I50. Descriptive statistics were used to examine the hospital burden as well as patients' clinical and outcome data. Results: A total of 7384 patients with HF were identified from five tertiary hospitals. Around half of the patients were male. The mean age was 67 years, and the main health insurance scheme was the Universal Coverage Scheme. The prevalence of HF was 0.1% in 2018 and 0.2% in 2019. Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) was the most common type of HF in both visits, followed by heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) and heart failure with mildly reduced ejection fraction (HFmrEF). The proportion of HF hospitalizations was 1.2% in 2018 and 1.5% in 2019. The proportion of HF rehospitalizations versus hospitalizations in patients with HF was 22.7% in 2018 and 23.9% in 2019. The risk of rehospitalization was highest at 180 days after hospital discharge (87.8%). Among the patients with HF, the proportion of all-cause mortality was 9.1% in 2018 and 8.0% in 2019. Most of the deaths occurred within 30 days after hospitalization. Conclusion: Our study demonstrated that the burden of HF in terms of hospitalization and in-hospital mortality was notably high when compared to similar studies conducted in Thailand and other countries.
