Electrified solid–liquid interfaces (ESLIs) play a key role in various electrochemical processes relevant to energy1–5, biology6 and geochemistry7. The electron and mass transport at the electrified interfaces may result in structural modifications that markedly influence the reaction pathways. For example, electrocatalyst surface restructuring during reactions can substantially affect the catalysis mechanisms and reaction products1–3. Despite its importance, direct probing the atomic dynamics of solid–liquid interfaces under electric biasing is challenging owing to the nature of being buried in liquid electrolytes and the limited spatial resolution of current techniques for in situ imaging through liquids. Here, with our development of advanced polymer electrochemical liquid cells for transmission electron microscopy (TEM), we are able to directly monitor the atomic dynamics of ESLIs during copper (Cu)-catalysed CO2 electroreduction reactions (CO2ERs). Our observation reveals a fluctuating liquid-like amorphous interphase. It undergoes reversible crystalline–amorphous structural transformations and flows along the electrified Cu surface, thus mediating the crystalline Cu surface restructuring and mass loss through the interphase layer. The combination of real-time observation and theoretical calculations unveils an amorphization-mediated restructuring mechanism resulting from charge-activated surface reactions with the electrolyte. To better understand the geodynamic evolution of northeastern China during the Late Mesozoic, we analyzed zircon U–Pb geochronological, Lu–Hf isotopic, and geochemical data for Early Cretaceous volcanic rocks from the southeastern margin of the Songliao Basin. Newly identified A-type rhyolite and trachyandesite yielded zircon 206Pb/238U ages of ca. 123 Ma and 117 Ma, respectively. The rhyolites are high in SiO2 (72.24–78.89 wt%) and total alkali (K2O + Na2O = 8.81–10.03 wt%), and low in MgO (0.10–0.26 wt%), CaO (0.32–0.36 wt%), Ni (0.08–2.69 ppm), and Cr (0.39–4.87 ppm) concentrations, with negative Nb, Ta, and Sr anomalies. They are enriched in light rare earth elements (LREEs) and large-ion lithophile elements (LILEs) and depleted in high-field-strength elements (HFSEs); the calculated Zr saturation temperatures are high (828–915 °C). The A-type rhyolites possess variable zircon εHf(t) values ranging from + 5.69 to + 10.49. Petrogenetic analysis leads us to propose that the A-type rhyolites were probably formed by partial melting of a Neoproterozoic–Early Paleozoic juvenile lower crust. The trachyandesites have Nb/Ta (14.9–17.25), Zr/Hf (35.04–42.75), Rb/Sr (0.25–0.40), and Lu/Yb (0.14–0.15) ratios that are similar to those of mantle-derived magma, indicating a mantle source. They have εHf(t) values of + 4.71 to + 7.29 and show enrichment in LILEs and LREEs, and weak depletion in HFSEs, suggesting that the parent magma originated from partial melting of a depleted lithospheric mantle, and was subsequently metasomatized by subduction-related fluids, followed by extensive fractional crystallization during the magma evolution. Combined with the temporal and spatial distribution of Late Mesozoic igneous rocks from the southeastern margin of the Songliao Basin, we propose that Early Cretaceous volcanic rocks formed in an extensional tectonic setting that was closely related to rollback of the Paleo-Pacific (Izanagi) oceanic slab. Chickens are remarkably versatile animals that are used as model organisms for biomedical research. Here, we performed metabolomic and RNA sequencing (RNA-Seq) transcriptomic analyses of the hypothalamus, liver tissue and serum of poultry with different genetic backgrounds, providing detailed information for hypothalamus and liver tissue at the transcriptional level and for liver tissue and serum at the metabolite level. We present two datasets generated from 36 samples from three poultry breeds using high-throughput RNA-Seq and liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry acquisition (LC/MS). The transcriptomic and metabolomic data obtained for poultry of different genetic backgrounds will be a valuable resource for further studies on this model organism. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Cross-shareholding has played an important role in strengthening strategic synergy among enterprises, but its impact on the green development of enterprises is unclear. In this paper, we construct an analytical framework that includes a manufacturer and a retailer to explore the impact of cross-shareholdings under different leaderships on green supply chain operational decisions and profits, in which the manufacturer invests in green technologies and the retailer conducts green marketing. By constructing and solving the game model of manufacturer-led and retailer-led before and after cross-shareholding, it is found that after cross-shareholding, the product's green level and the retailers' marketing level are improved. For supply chain leaders, cross-shareholdings always increase their profits. Only when the follower holds the leader's shares no more than a certain value, cross-shareholding will increase the total profit of the supply chain. In addition, we obtain the optimal decisions and profits of the supply chain in the integrated situation and design two-part pricing contracts to achieve cross-shareholding supply chain coordination. Purpose: Vein graft failure (VGF) is an important limitation for coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery. Inhibition of the excessive proliferation and migration of venous smooth muscle cells (SMCs) is an effective strategy to alleviate VGF during the CABG perioperative period. In the present study, we aimed to explore the role and potential mechanism of all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) on preventing vein grafts stenosis. Methods: The autogenous vein grafts model was established in the right jugular artery of rabbits. Immunohistochemistry staining and western blot assays were used to detected the protein expression, while real-time PCR assay was applied for mRNAs expression detection. The interaction between proteins was identified by co-immunoprecipitation assay. The Cell Counting Kit-8 and wound-healing assays were used to investigate the role of ATRA on human umbilical vein smooth muscle cells (HUVSMCs) function. Cell cycle progression was identified by flow cytometry assay. Results: Vein graft stenosis and SMCs hyperproliferation were confirmed in vein grafts by histological and Ki-67 immunohistochemistry assays. Treatment of ATRA (10 mg/kg/day) significantly mitigated the stenosis extent of vein grafts, demonstrated by the decreased thickness of intima-media, and decreased Ki-67 expression. ATRA could repress the PDGF-bb-induced excessive proliferation and migration of HUVSMCs, which was mediated by Rb-E2F dependent cell cycle inhibition. Meanwhile, ATRA could reduce the interaction between KLF5 and RARα, thereby inhibiting the function of cis-elements of KLF5. KLF5-induced inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) expression activation could be significantly inhibited by ATRA. Magmatic and metasomatic rock suites can be commonly found in active convergent margins as the suprasubduction zone mantle wedge is usually impregnated by melts and fluids. Here we present petrologic, whole-rock geochemical and zircon U-Pb and Lu-Hf data from metamorphic intermediate-mafic and ultramafic rocks in central Jilin Province, NE China, to constrain the Early Paleozoic tectonic evolution of the southeastern margin of the Xing'an-Mongolia Orogenic Belt. Lithologically, the meta-igneous rocks are composed of plagioclase-actinolite, meta-allgovite, tremolitized pyroxenite, and serpentinized peridotite. Geochronological results indicate that the protoliths of the meta-igneous rocks formed during the Early–Middle Ordovician (474–466 Ma). Geochemical features suggest that the rocks are calc-alkaline and transitional-series rocks relatively enriched in large-ion lithophile and light rare earth elements and depleted in high field strength and heavy rare earth elements, implying that they formed in a supra-subduction zone environment. Additionally, the protoliths of the plagioclase-actinolites, which display an affinity for sanukites, resulted from an equilibrium reaction between mantle peridotite and slab melts derived from the partial melting of subducting sediments during early-stage subduction; the meta-allgovite rocks were likely derived from a juvenile depleted lithospheric mantle that was metasomatized by subduction-related fluids; the ultramafic rocks are magmatic cumulates formed in a suprasubduction zone mantle wedge. Furthermore, the meta-allgovite rocks display both arc-like and MORB-like geochemical characteristics, suggesting an intra-continental back-arc basin setting. These features, combined with the presence of the abundance of zircon xenocrysts with Neoproterozoic–Paleozoic ages, as well as the results of previous studies, reflect that a small-scale and limited back-arc basin, which was related to the northward subduction of the Paleo-Asian oceanic plate, probably existed close to the Songnen-Zhangguangcai Range Massif during the Early–Middle Ordovician. Semiconducting monolayer (ML) blue phosphorene (BlueP) shares similar stability with ML black phosphorene (BP), and it has recently been grown on an Au surface. Potential ML BlueP devices often require direct contact with metal to enable the injection of carriers. Using ab initio electronic structure calculations and quantum transport simulations, for the first time, we perform a systematic study of the interfacial properties of ML BlueP in contact with metals spanning a wide work function range in a field effect transistor (FET) configuration. ML BlueP has undergone metallization owing to strong interaction with five metals. There is a strong Fermi level pinning (FLP) in the ML BlueP FETs due to the metal-induced gap states (MIGS) with a pinning factor of 0.42. ML BlueP forms n-type Schottky contact with Sc, Ag, and Pt electrodes with electron Schottky barrier heights (SBHs) of 0.22, 0.22, and 0.80 eV, respectively, and p-type Schottky contact with Au and Pd electrodes with hole SBHs of 0.61 and 0.79 eV, respectively. The MIGS are eliminated by inserting graphene between ML BlueP and the metal electrode, accompanied by a transition from a strong FLP to a weak FLP. Phosphorene has attracted much attention recently as an alternative channel material in nanoscale electronic and optoelectronic devices due to its high carrier mobility and tunable direct bandgap. Compared with monolayer (ML) phosphorene, few-layer (FL) phosphorene is easier to prepare, is more stable in experiments, and is expected to form a smaller Schottky barrier height (SBH) at the phosphorene-metal interface. Using ab initio electronic structure calculations and quantum transport simulations, we perform a systematic study of the interfacial properties of three-layer (3L) phosphorene field effect transistors (FETs) contacted with several common metals (Al, Ag, Au, Cu, Ti, Cr, Ni, and Pd) for the first time. The SBHs obtained in the vertical direction from projecting the band structures of the 3L phosphorene-metal systems to the left bilayer (2L) phosphorenes are comparable with those obtained in the lateral direction from the quantum transport simulations for 2L phosphorene FETs. The quantum transport simulations for the 3L phosphorene FETs show that 3L phosphorene forms n-type Schottky contacts with electron SBHs of 0.16 and 0.28 eV in the lateral direction, when Ag and Cu are used as electrodes, respectively, and p-type Schottky contacts with hole SBHs of 0.05, 0.11, 0.20, 0.30, 0.30, and 0.31 eV in the lateral direction when Cr, Pd, Ni, Ti, Al, and Au are used as electrodes, respectively. Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) have been increasingly used as antimicrobial and disinfectant. However, intestinal model studies have shown that AgNPs induce oxidative stress. Hence, this study aims to investigate the effects of dietary supplemental zinc (Zn) and vitamin E (VE; α-tocopherol acetate) on attenuating AgNP-induced intestinal oxidative stress in broiler chickens. The chickens were divided into two groups as follows: (1) control group fed with a corn-soybean meal basal diet and (2) nano group, received drinking water containing 1000 mg/kg AgNPs. All the nano-exposed birds were divided into six dietary treatment groups, namely, the basal diets supplemented with (1) 60 mg/kg Zn as ZnSO, (2) 120 mg/kg Zn, (3) 100 mg/kg VE, (4) 200 mg/kg VE, (5) 60 mg/kg Zn and 100 mg/kg VE, and (6) 120 mg/kg Zn and 200 mg/kg VE. Results showed that the AgNPs significantly reduced the body weights of the broilers after 42 days of oral administration of AgNPs ( P < 0.05), and this effect was not alleviated by any of the dietary treatments. The activity of superoxide dismutase (CuZn-SOD) increased in all the AgNP-treated birds ( P < 0.05); however, CuZn-SOD did not increase in birds fed with basal diet supplemented with 200 mg/kg VE. In this treatment, the VE exerted an antioxidant effect to prevent the activation of the CuZn-SOD enzyme. Furthermore, supplementing Zn increased the activities of catalase and glutathione peroxidase in the jejunal mucosa ( P < 0.05), which were accompanied with increased malondialdehyde levels ( P < 0.05) in the broilers. AgNP exposure resulted in a significant messenger RNA (mRNA) upregulation of toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) and TLR2-1 in the jejunal mucosa ( P < 0.05). However, supplemental ZnVE did not reduce TLRs' mRNA expression, except for the diminished TLR2-1 mRNA levels in birds fed with basal diet supplemented with 120 mg/kg Zn and 200 mg/kg VE. We concluded that although dietary Zn and VE supplementation did not attenuate growth depression effect of AgNP, it however attenuates intestinal oxidative stress in AgNP-treated broiler chickens. Hot deformation behavior of a Fe-24Cr-22Ni-7Mo-0.5N superaustenitic stainless steel was investigated by hot compression tests in a wide temperature range of 950-1250 °C and strain rate range of 0.001-10 s. The flow curves show that the flow stress decreases as the deformation temperature increases or the strain rate decreases. The processing maps developed on the basis of the dynamic materials model and flow stress data were adopted to optimize the parameters of hot working. It was found that the strain higher than 0.2 has no significant effect on the processing maps. The optimum processing conditions were in the temperature range of 1125-1220 °C and strain rate range of 0.1-3 s. Comparing to other stable domains, microstructural observations in this domain revealed the complete dynamic recrystallization (DRX) with finer and more uniform grain size. The effects of dietary Zinc (Zn) supplementation on the gene expression of appetite regulatory peptides were investigated in Salmonella-infected broiler chickens. Broiler chickens (Arbor Acres, 1 day old) were allocated randomly into 24 pens of 10 birds. The chickens from 12 pens were fed with basal diet and the other with basal diet supplemented with Zn (ZnSO·HO, 120 mg/kg). At 5 days of age, the chickens were divided into 4 treatments with 6 pens: basal diet; basal diet and Salmonella challenge; Zn-supplemented diet; Zn-supplemented diet and Salmonella challenge. At 42 days of age, the hypothalamus from 6 chickens per treatment (1 chicken per pen) was individually collected for gene expression determination. Results showed that dietary supplementation of Zn reduced the gene expression of hypothalamic ghrelin and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) ( P < 0.05). Salmonella infection upregulated the messenger RNA (mRNA) levels of hypothalamic neuropeptide Y (NPY) and TNF-α. Zn supplementation and Salmonella inoculation were significantly correlated with the mRNA levels of toll-like receptor 2-1 ( P < 0.05). However, neither dietary Zn supplementation nor Salmonella inoculation had significant effect on hypothalamic agouti-related protein, cocaine- and amphetamine-regulated transcript, and pro-opiomelanocortin. This study shows that dietary Zn supplementation promoted orexigenic appetite regulatory peptides and reduced the expression of the inflammatory cytokine TNF-α in the hypothalamus of Salmonella-challenged broilers. Superaustenitic stainless steel 654SMO was used as the experimental material to investigate the effect of heating temperatures and holding times on grain growth behavior in the temperature range of 1150-1250 °C and holding time ranging from 15 to 60 min. The contour maps of grain size and grain growth rate as a function of temperatures and times were plotted. The results of this study suggest that grains grow with parabolic trend. Grain size and its growth rate increase with increasing heating temperature, the former also increases with holding time, while the latter decreases with holding time. Both grain size and grain growth rate are more sensitive to holding time than solution temperature at temperatures below 1200 °C, which is contrary to that of at temperatures above 1200 °C. The growth behavior of grains in the tested steel is illustrated by a modified mathematical model deduced on the basis of previous empirical models, and this modified grain growth model can fit well with the experimental grain growth data obtained during solution treatment. In broiler chickens, heat stress disrupts nutrient digestion and absorption. However, the underlying molecular mechanism is not clearly understood. Hence, to investigate the effects of high ambient temperatures on the expression levels of nutrient transporters in the jejunum of broiler chickens, seventy-two 35-day-old male broiler chickens with similar body weights were randomly allocated into two groups: control (24 ± 1 °C) and heat-stressed (32 ± 1 °C). The chickens in the heat-stressed group were exposed to 10 h of heat daily from 08:00 to 18:00 and then raised at 24 ± 1 °C. The rectal temperature and feed intake of the chickens were recorded daily. After 7 days, nine chickens per group were sacrificed by exsanguination, and the jejunum was collected. The results show that heat exposure significantly decreased the feed intake and increased the rectal temperature of the broiler chickens. The plasma concentrations of uric acid and triglyceride significantly increased and decreased, respectively, in the heat-stressed group. No significant differences in the levels of plasma glucose, total amino acids, and very low-density lipoprotein were observed between the heat-stressed and control groups. However, the plasma concentration of glucose tended to be higher ( P = 0.09) in the heat-stressed group than in the control group. Heat exposure did not significantly affect the mRNA levels of Na-dependent glucose transporter 1 and amino acid transporters y + LAT1, CAT1, r-BAT, and PePT-1. However, the expression levels of GLUT-2, FABP1, and CD36 were significantly decreased by heat exposure. The results of this study provide new insights into the mechanisms by which heat stress affects nutrient absorption in broiler chickens. Our findings suggest that periodic heat exposure might alter the jejunal glucose and lipid transport rather than amino acid transport. The softening behavior of Inconel 718 alloy at different temperatures was studied using two-stage interrupted compression method on Gleeble1500D thermal stimulator, and the 2% offset method was applied to analyze the experimental dates. Finally, the static recrystallization fraction was obtained. At the same times, optical microscope (OM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were employed to investigate the microstructure characteristic. The experimental results showed that the recrystallization was more sensitive to temperature than holding time. The recrystallization process finished quickly above 1 050 °C, and significantly prolonged below 1 025 °C. Additionally, the dynamical model of static recrystallization follows the Avrami equation. long time immersion experiment of mortar specimens is carried out to investigate their degradation mechanism by sulfuric acid. Water-cement ratios of mortar are ranging from 0.5 to 0.7 and the pH value of sulfuric acid is 3.5 and 4.0 respectively. The pH meter is used to monitor the soak solution and the titration sulfuric acid with given concentration is added to maintain original pH value, through which the acid consumption of mortar is recorded. A theoretical reaction rate model is also proposed based on concentration boundary layer model. The results show that theoretical model fits the experimental results well and the corrosion mechanism can be modeled by a diffusion process accompanied with an irreversible chemical reaction when pH value of soak solution is no less than 3.5. A new benzimidazoyl ligand bis[(N-ethylbenzimidazol-2-yl)methyl]ether (EDGB) and CuII complexes [Cu(L1) (L2)](ClO4)·mEt2O·nH2O [L1 = bis[(benzimidazol-2-yl)methyl]ether (DGB) or EDGB, L2 = 2,2′-bipyridine (bipy) or 1,10-phenanthroline (phen)] have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses and i.r. spectra. The single-crystal structure of the [Cu(phen)(DGB)(OClO3)]ClO4·Et2O·0.5H2O complex was determined by X-ray diffraction. The geometry around Cu is best described as a distorted octahedron with four nitrogen atoms from phen and DGB ligands forming the equatorial plane. Floquet states are a topic of intense contemporary interest, which is often induced by coherent external oscillating perturbation (e.g., laser, or microwave) which breaks the continuous time translational symmetry of the systems. Usually, electron–phonon coupling modifies the electronic structure of a crystal as a non-coherent perturbation and seems difficult to form Floquet states. Surprisingly, we found that the thermal equilibrium electron–phonon coupling in M(MoS)3 and M(MoSe)3 (where M is a metallic element) exhibits a coherent behavior, and the electronic structure can be described by the Floquet theorem. Such a coherent Floquet state is caused by a selective giant electron–phonon coupling, with thermodynamic phonon oscillation serving as a driving force on the electronic part of the system. The quasi-1D Dirac cone at the Fermi energy has its band gap open and close regularly. Similarly, the electric current will oscillate even under a constant voltage. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The early detection and accurate histopathological diagnosis of gastric cancer increase the chances of successful treatment. The worldwide shortage of pathologists offers a unique opportunity for the use of artificial intelligence assistance systems to alleviate the workload and increase diagnostic accuracy. Here, we report a clinically applicable system developed at the Chinese PLA General Hospital, China, using a deep convolutional neural network trained with 2,123 pixel-level annotated H&E-stained whole slide images. The model achieves a sensitivity near 100% and an average specificity of 80.6% on a real-world test dataset with 3,212 whole slide images digitalized by three scanners. We show that the system could aid pathologists in improving diagnostic accuracy and preventing misdiagnoses. Moreover, we demonstrate that our system performs robustly with 1,582 whole slide images from two other medical centres. Our study suggests the feasibility and benefits of using histopathological artificial intelligence assistance systems in routine practice scenarios. The early detection and accurate histopathological diagnosis of gastric cancer are essential factors that can help increase the chances of successful treatment. In this Letter, a tunable valley polarization is investigated for honeycomb systems with broken inversion symmetry such as transition-metal dichalcogenide MX2 (M = Mo, W; X = S, Se) monolayers through elliptical pumping. Compared to circular pumping, elliptical pumping is a more universal and effective method to create coherent valley polarization. When two valleys of MX2 monolayers are doped or polarized, a novel anomalous Hall effect (called valley orbital magnetic moment Hall effect) is predicted. Valley orbital magnetic moment Hall effect can generate an orbital magnetic moment current without the accompaniment of a charge current, which opens a new avenue for exploration of valleytronics and orbitronics.
