Bisphenol A (BPA) has been widely used in the manufacture of polymeric materials. BPA is regarded as an endocrine disrupting chemical, posing a great threat to the public health. In this study, a bacterial strain LM-1, capable of utilizing BPA as the sole carbon and energy source under aerobic conditions, was originally isolated from an activated sludge sample. The isolate was identified as Pseudomonas sp. based on 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis. Strain LM-1 was able to completely degrade 25–100 mg/L BPA within 14–24 h, and it also exhibited high capacity for BPA degradation at a range of pH (6.0–8.0). (NH4)2SO4 and NH4NO3 were the suitable nitrogen sources for its growth and BPA biodegradation, and the BPA degradation could be accelerated when exogenous carbon sources were introduced as the co-substrates. Metal ions such as Zn2+, Cu2+, and Ni2+ could considerably suppress the growth of strain LM-1 and BPA degradation. According to the analysis of liquid chromatography coupled to Q-Exactive high resolution mass spectrometry, hydroquinone, p-hydroxybenzaldehyde, and p-hydroxybenzoate were the predominate metabolites in the BPA biodegradation and the degradation pathways were proposed. Objective: To better understand the wetland restoration, the physicochemical property and microbial community in rhizosphere and bulk soil of the living and death Tamarix chinensis covered soil zones were studied. Results: There were differences between growth conditions in the levels of soil pH, salinity, SOM, and nutrient. The living status of T. chinensis exhibited higher capacity of decreasing saline-alkali soil than the death condition of plants, and the living T. chinensis showed higher uptake of N, P, and K as compared with the death samples. Proteobacteria, Bacteroidota, and Chloroflexi were the predominant bacterial communities as revealed via high-throughput sequencing. Conclusions: It is great potential for using halophytes such as T. chinensis to ecological restore the coastal saline-alkali soil. This study could contribute to a better understanding of halophyte growth during the coastal phytoremediation process, and guide theoretically for management of T. chinensis population. Coastal wetlands are the most productive ecosystems worldwide and can provide important ecosystem services, yet the characteristics of microbial community within these systems remain poorly understood. Microbial community of salt marsh vegetation and the associated soil physio-chemical properties were investigated in this study. Three typical Suaeda australis, Phragmites australis, Spartina alterniflora wetlands, and non-vegetated bare mudflats in the Zhoushan Islands were studied to advance the understanding of the characteristics of soil bacterial communities in coastal wetlands. Results showed that the bare mudflats exhibited high pH value and soil moisture content compared with the vegetated samples. In different vegetation types, the organic matter content, total nitrogen, and total potassium content decreased in the order: S. alterniflora wetland > P. australis wetland > S. australis wetland, and there was no obvious difference in total phosphorous content. The halophytes could decrease soil salinity compared with bare mudflats. Proteobacteria, Nitrospinae, Bacteroidetes, Acidobacteria, and Nitrospirae were the predominant level across all samples. Functional prediction showed that SPA-covered soil might play vital roles in sulphur cycling, while SUA and PHR covered soils were involved in nitrogen cycling. This study could provide the first insight into the microbial community of this study area and contribute to a better understanding of vegetation microbiota and bioremediation in coastal wetland ecosystem. Passivation of nanoscale zerovalent iron hinders its efficiency in water treatment, and loading another catalytic metal has been found to improve the efficiency significantly. In this study, Cu/Fe bimetallic nanoparticles were prepared by liquid-phase chemical reduction for removal of hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) from wastewater. Synthesized bimetallic nanoparticles were characterized by transmission electron microscopy, Brunauer–Emmet–Teller isotherm, and X-ray diffraction. The results showed that Cu loading can significantly enhance the removal efficiency of Cr(VI) by 29.3% to 84.0%, and the optimal Cu loading rate was 3% (wt%). The removal efficiency decreased with increasing initial pH and Cr(VI) concentration. The removal of Cr(VI) was better fitted by pseudo-second-order model than pseudo-first-order model. Thermodynamic analysis revealed that the Cr(VI) removal was spontaneous and endothermic, and the increase of reaction temperature facilitated the process. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis indicated that Cr(VI) was completely reduced to Cr(III) and precipitated on the particle surface as hydroxylated Cr(OH)3 and CrxFe1−x(OH)3 coprecipitation. Purpose: Addition of S fertilizer influences the behavior of metals in soil, the mechanism of which has not been extensively studied to date. We explored the dynamic influence of S fertilizer (S0 and Na2SO4) applied in paddy soils on Cu bioavailability in rice rhizosphere soil during the life cycle of rice plants.Materials and methods: Through a microcosm experiment, the speciation of Cu and S in rhizosphere soil was explored by traditional chemical extraction methods and advanced synchrotron-based X-ray absorption near-edge spectroscopy (XANES) techniques.Results and discussion: In the vegetative stages of rice plants, sulfur fertilization increased the concentration of bioavailable Cu, as well as the dissolved organic carbon (DOC) concentration in rhizosphere soil. Meanwhile, a higher proportion of Cu-humic substances was found in soil treated with S than that in control soil. However, extended flooding conditions led to the reduction of S fertilizer to sulfide, which provided the substrate for Cu2S formation. Thus, in the reproductive stages of rice plants, a higher proportion of Cu2S formation from +S treatments led to a relatively lower concentration of bioavailable Cu in rice rhizosphere soil than in control soil.Conclusions: The influence of S fertilizer on Cu bioavailability depended on the growth stage of rice plants. Arsenic (As) and lead (Pb) commonly co-exist with high concentrations in paddy soil mainly due to human activities in south of China. This study investigates the effect of ferrous sulfate (FeSO4) amendment and water management on rice growth and arsenic (As) and lead (Pb) accumulation in rice plants. A paddy soil co-contaminated with As and Pb was chosen for the pot experiment with three FeSO4 levels (0, 0.25, and 1%, on a dry weight basis) and two water managements (flooded, non-flooded). The concentrations of As and Pb in iron plaques and rice plants were determined. Application of FeSO4 and non-flooded conditions significantly accelerated the growth of rice plants. With the addition of FeSO4, iron plaques were significantly promoted and most of the As and Pb were sequestered in the iron plaques. The addition of 0.25% FeSO4 and non-flooded conditions did not significantly change the accumulation of As and Pb in rice grains. The practice also significantly decreased the translocation factor (TF) of As and Pb from roots to above-ground parts which might have been aided by the reduction of As and Pb availability in soil, the preventing effect of rice roots, and the formation of more reduced glutathione (GSH). Flooded conditions decreased the Pb concentration in rice plants, but increased As accumulation. Moreover, rice grew thin and weak and even died under flooded conditions. Overall, an appropriate FeSO4 dose and non-flooded conditions might be feasible for rice cultivation, especially addressing the As issue in the co-contaminated soil. Profound understanding of behaviors of organic matter from sources to multistage rivers assists watershed management for improving water quality of river networks in rural areas. Ninety-one water samples were collected from the three orders of receiving rivers in a typical combined polluted subcatchment (diffuse agricultural pollutants and domestic sewage) located in China. Then, the fluorescent dissolved organic matter (FDOM) information for these samples was determined by the excitation-emission matrix coupled with parallel factor analysis (EEM-PARAFAC). Consequently, two typical humic-like (C1 and C2) and other two protein-like (C3 and C4) components were separated. Their fluorescence peaks were located at λ = 255(360)/455, <250(320)/395, 275/335, and <250/305 nm, which resembled the traditional peaks of A + C, A + M, T, and B, respectively. In addition, C1 and C2 accounted for the dominant contributions to FDOM (>60 %). Principal component analysis (PCA) further demonstrated that, except for the autochthonous produced C4, the allochthonous components (C1 and C2) had the same terrestrial origins, but C3 might possess the separate anthropogenic and biological sources. Moreover, the spatial heterogeneity of contamination levels was noticeable in multistage rivers, and the allochthonous FDOM was gradually homogenized along the migration directions. Interestingly, the average content of the first three PARAFAC components in secondary tributaries and source pollutants had significantly higher levels than that in subsequent receiving rivers, thus suggesting that the supervision and remediation for secondary tributaries would play a prominent role in watershed management works. Root border cells (RBCs) serve plants in their initial line of defense against stress from the presence of heavy metals in the soil. In this research, light microscopy and synchrotron-based scanning transmission X-ray microscopy (STXM) combined with near edge X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy (NEXAFS) with a nanoscale spatial resolution were used to investigate the effects of copper (Cu) upon the RBCs, as well as its distribution and speciation within the RBCs of rice ( Oryza sativa L.) under aeroponic culture. The results indicated that with increasing exposure time and concentration, the attached RBCs were surrounded by a thick mucilage layer which changed in form from an ellipse into a strip in response to Cu ion stress. Copper was present as Cu(II), which accumulated not only in the cell wall but also in the cytoplasm. To our knowledge, this is the first time that STXM has been used in combination with NEXAFS to provide new insight into the distribution and speciation of metal elements in isolated plant cells. As the biogeochemical cycling of S in soil is closely associated with the mobility and bioavailability of heavy metals, in this study, we investigated the influence of S fertilization (S and SO) in paddy soils on rice growth, iron plaque formation over root surface, and Cu speciation of rice rhizosphere soil under flooding conditions. The dry weight and height of rice plants increased significantly after S fertilization, indicating that S fertilization of Cu-contaminated paddy soils can enhance rice growth. Sulfur fertilization (less than 500 mg/kg) promoted the formation of iron plaque, thus sequestering a large amount of Cu on root surface and decreasing the bioavailability of Cu by inducing transformation of Cu bioavailable fractions (exchangeable, carbonate oxides, or iron and manganese oxide bound to Cu) to Cu bound to organic matter. Copper K-edge X-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES) revealed that S fertilization increased the percentage of Cu present as CuS and Cu-cysteine in rice rhizosphere soil, thus reducing Cu mobility. As Cu concentration in rice plants decreased and the biomass of rice plants increased after S fertilization, it can be suggested that S fertilization may be an effective approach for managing Cu-contaminated paddy soils. The concentrations, leachability and vertical distributions of chromium (Cr) and other metal elements were determined in soil and the level was also determined in groundwater and surface water around an abandoned chromate chemical plant located in Hangzhou, China. The results showed that Cr, Pb, Zn, Cd, Cu, Hg and As heavily polluted the surface soil and groundwater. However, the surface water from a river near the abandoned chemical plant was not heavily polluted by the aforementioned heavy metals. The leachability of metals was not uniform within different sampling points. The highest concentrations of Cr (170.18 mg/L) and Cr(VI) (130.59 mg/L) in the soil leaching solution were recorded at a depth of 0-20 cm at the warehouse in the center of the plant. However, the attenuation of heavy metals (Cr, Pb, Zn, Cd and Hg) toward the vertical distribution was fast with increasing depth. Our results suggest that the multi-element pollution in soil and water may pose a drastic risk to the environment and human health surrounding those abandoned chemical plants in China and other developing countries with fast urbanization. Cell wall proteins (CWPs) are a prime site for signal perception and defense responses to environmental stresses. To gain further insights into CWPs and their molecular function, traditional techniques (e.g., two-dimensional gel electrophoresis) may be ineffective for special proteins. Elsholtzia splendens is a copper-tolerant plant species that grow on copper deposits. In this study, a fourplex isobaric tag was used for relative and absolute quantitation with liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry approach to analyze the root CWPs of E. splendens. A total of 479 unique proteins were identified, including 121 novel proteins. Approximately 80.79 % of the proteins were extracted in the CaCl fraction, 16.08 % were detected in the NaCl fraction, and 3.13 % were identified in both fractions. The identified proteins have been involved in various processes, including cell wall remodeling, signal transduction, defense, and carbohydrate metabolism, thereby indicating a complex regulatory network in the apoplast of E. splendens roots. This study presents the first large-scale analysis of CWPs in metal-tolerant plants, which may be of paramount importance to understand the molecular functions and metabolic pathways in the root cell wall of copper-tolerant plants. A hydroponics trial was employed to study the effects of Pseudomonas putida CZ1 (CZ1), a heavy-metal-resistant bacterial strain isolated from the rhizosphere of Elsholtzia splendens ( E. splendens), on the uptake and translocation of copper (Cu) in E. splendens. Significant promotion of plant growth coupled with the obvious plant-growth-promoting (PGP) characters of the bacteria suggested that CZ1 would be a plant-growth-promoting rhizobacterium (PGPR) to E. splendens under Cu stress condition. The results of inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) showed that CZ1 increased the concentration of Cu in the shoots (up to 211.6 % compared to non-inoculation treatment) and translocation factor (TF) (from 0.56 to 1.83 %) of those exposed to Cu. The distribution of Cu in root cross section measured by synchrotron-based X-ray fluorescence microscopy (SRXRF) indicated that CZ1 promoted the transport of Cu from cortex to xylem in roots, which contributed to the accumulation of Cu in shoots. Furthermore, CZ1 improved the uptake of nutrient elements by plants to oppose to the toxicity of Cu. In summary, P. putida CZ1 acted as a PGPR in resistance to Cu and promoted the accumulation and translocation of Cu from root to shoot by element redistribution in plant root; hence, CZ1 is a promising assistance to phytoremediation. Copper (Cu) accumulation in soils is becoming a major environmental problem. Elsholtzia splendens, a Cu-tolerant plant growing in Cu mine areas, can accumulate high levels of Cu. This study develops a systematic method of detecting the intracellular localization and different chemical forms of Cu to comprehensively understand the mechanisms involved in Cu tolerance and detoxification of E. splendens. Various chemical forms of Cu were absorbed by E. splendens, the highest proportion of which was stored in its cell walls (68 %) and vacuoles (42 %). Most of the Cu in the roots, stems and leaves were extracted by 2 % hydrate acetic acid (HAc) in controls. The distribution characteristics of Cu, particularly in the roots, were closely related to the Cu tolerance of E. splendens. In addition, the binding capacity of Cu to soluble salts or proteins decreased and its binding capacity to insoluble oxalate increased with the increasing Cu supply. These results indicated that Cu ions were integrated with compounds of low bioavailable, such as undissolved phosphate or oxalate, which contributed to the metal tolerance and detoxification of E. splendens. Cluster analysis, based on Cu abundance levels, reveals that correlations exist between the chemical forms of Cu and their intracellular locations, which in turn indicates a relationship between their migration activity and toxicity. Background and aims: Metal species in rhizosphere soil profoundly influence their mobility and phytoavailability. Clarifying the speciation transformation of heavy metals helps understand their translocation and accumulation in plants. Methods: Single extraction, selective sequential extraction (SSE) and X-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES) spectroscopy were employed to investigate the speciation transformation of lead (Pb) and its influence on metal accumulation in tea plants after the addition of tea polyphenols (TPs). Results: Pb content was decreased in young leaves and stems, whereas increased in roots, after TPs were amended to soil. Both SSE and XANES analysis suggested bioavailable Pb was transformed to organically bound Pb after the addition of TPs. The increased percentage of organically bound Pb might be fixed in the cell wall of plant root through a ternary complex formed between the Pb-organic matter complex and cell wall components. Therefore, Pb translocation from roots to young tissues was decreased. Conclusions: Pb phytoavailability change was driven by its speciation transformation after the addition of TPs. Elsholtzia splendens is a well-known Cu-tolerant plant; yet, the impact of Cu-contaminated soil on bacterial community in its rhizosphere is not known. We studied the spatial variability of bacteria in the rhizosphere using Cu-contaminated soil with polymerase chain reaction-denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (PCR-DGGE) and real-time PCR. In the uncontaminated soil, the content of the dissolved organic carbon (DOC) and bacterial diversity gradually increased in the rhizosphere soil along the root growth direction (from the interface zone to the meristematic zone), while for the Cu-contaminated soil, the highest DOC content and the strongest potential bioavailability of Cu were found in the interface zone, which also had the lowest bacteria diversity. Bacteria diversity was positively correlated with DOC in the uncontaminated soil ( p < 0.01) but not in the contaminated soil. Compared with uncontaminated soil, some species such as Firmicutes only existed in the rhizosphere of contaminated soil, while the very small amount (if any) of some species exists such as Deinococcus- Thermus, indicating that the contaminated environment altered the bacterial composition. Moreover, spatial variation of the bacterial community was found among different soil zones. Real-time PCR confirmed the spatial variation via the gene expression of flagellin ( fliC) and chemotaxis gene ( cheA). The spatial characteristics of cheA expression were consistent with that of DOC and bacterial diversity. In conclusion, we demonstrated that the spatial variation of the bacterial community in the rhizosphere was present, independent of Cu contamination. The occurrence of harmful algal blooms has been increasing significantly around the world. In order to ensure the safety of drinking water, procedures to screen potential materials as effective algicides are needed, and predictive methods which save both the labor and time compared with traditional experimental approaches, are particularly desirable. In this study, data from previous studies on the algal-growth inhibitory action of two kinds of compounds, namely, the action of fatty acids and thiazolidinediones on the harmful algae Heterosigma akashiwo and Chattonella marina, were modeled using multiple linear regression (MLR) based on quantitative structure-activity relationships (QSAR). The models were shown to have highly predictive ability and stability, and provided insight into the inhibitory mechanisms of congeneric compounds. The main descriptors in the fatty-acid models were the Connolly accessible area and the number of rotatable bonds, illustrating that molecular surface area and shape are important in their algicidal actions. In the thiazolidinedione models, the critical volume, octanol-water partition coefficient (LogP), and Connolly solvent-excluded volume were found to be significant, indicating that hydrophobicity, substituent group size, and mode of action are mechanistically important. Our results showed the algicidal activity of a series of compounds on different algae could be modeled, and each model is efficacious for compounds that fall into the application domain of the QSAR model. Molecular-level understanding of soil Cu speciation and distribution assists in management of Cu contamination in mining sites. In this study, one soil sample, collected from a mining site contaminated since 1950s, was characterized complementarily by multiple synchrotron-based bulk and spatially resolved techniques for the speciation and distribution of Cu as well as other related elements (Fe, Ca, Mn, K, Al, and Si). Bulk X-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES) and extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) spectroscopy revealed that soil Cu was predominantly associated with Fe oxides instead of soil organic matter. This agreed with the closest association of Cu to Fe by microscopic X-ray fluorescence (U-XRF) and scanning transmission X-ray microscopy (STXM) nanoanalysis, along with the non-occurrence of photoreduction of soil Cu(II) by quick Cu L-edge XANES spectroscopy (Q-XANES) which often occurs when Cu organic complexes are present. Furthermore, bulk-EXAFS and STXM-coupled Fe L-edge nano-XANES analysis revealed soil Cu adsorbed primarily to Fe(III) oxides by inner-sphere complexation. Additionally, Cu K-edge μ-XANES, L-edge bulk-XANES, and successive Q-XANES results identified the presence of CuS rather than radiation-damage artifacts dominant in certain microsites of the mining soil. This study demonstrates the great benefits in use of multiple combined synchrotron-based techniques for comprehensive understanding of Cu speciation in heterogeneous soil matrix, which facilitates our prediction of Cu reactivity and environmental fate in the mining site. Purpose: Soil organic matter (SOM) plays a vital role in controlling metal bioavailability. However, the relationship between SOM and its fractions, including water-soluble substances (WSS), fulvic acid (FA), humic acid (HA), and soil microbial biomass (SMB), to metal bioavailability in plants has not been thoroughly investigated. This study examined the compositional change of SOM after tea polyphenols (TPs) were added to the soil and its correlation with Pb bioavailability. Materials and methods: Ultisol samples were collected from Fuyang, spiked with two levels (0 and 300 mg kg DW) of Pb, and aged for 30 days. Four uniform seedlings were transplanted to each plastic pot, which were filled with 3 kg of air-dried soil. After successful transplantation, three levels (0, 300, and 600 mg kg DW) of TPs were amended as irrigation solution for the pots. The Pb concentrations in different tissues of the tea plants were determined after 6 months. SOM, WSS, FA, HA, and SMB were extracted and quantified using a Multi N/C Total Organic Carbon Analyser. Results and discussion: Adding TPs to Pb-polluted soils alleviated Pb toxicity to microorganisms and increased SMB and the rhizosphere effect. The rhizosphere SOM was lower than bulk SOM in Pb-unspiked soils, while the opposite results were observed in Pb-spiked soils. A similar inconsistency for HA in the rhizosphere and bulk soil between Pb-unspiked and Pb-spiked soils might explain the difference in SOM. FA increased with the addition of TPs in both the rhizosphere and bulk soils, which might be the result of TP transformation. Positive correlations are present between the compositions of rhizosphere SOM and Pb in different tissues of the tea plant. SMB correlated negatively with Pb in young leaves and stems. Compared to rhizosphere soil, SOM components in bulk soil were less strongly correlated with Pb in tea plants. Conclusions: Addition of TPs to soil changes the components of SOM and Pb bioavailability. Support vector machine (SVM) classification models were constructed using a radial basis functions (RBF). These models were used for classification according to dissolved oxygen, permanganate index, ammoniac nitrogen, total nitrogen, or total phosphorus. Cross-validation and grid-search were applied to find satisfactory parameters for RBF for the improved models. Then the improved models were used to assess water quality utilizing a real-world data set (surface water quality monitoring data). The data set was comprised of more than 2,000 water samples representing 172 different sites monitored for one hydrological year. The results showed that the method presented in this paper had excellent performance, and the SVM classification models performed relatively better than the Linear Discriminant Analysis and Quadratic Discriminant Analysis models for classification. It has become apparent that the threat of an organic pollutant in soil is directly related to its bioavailable fraction and that the use of total contaminant concentrations as a measure of potential contaminant exposure to plants or soil organisms is inappropriate. In light of this, non-exhaustive extraction techniques are being investigated to assess their appropriateness in determining bioavailability. To find a suitable and rapid extraction method to predict phenanthrene bioavailability, multiple extraction techniques (i.e., mild hydroxypropyl- β-cyclodextrin (HPCD) and organic solvents extraction) were investigated in soil spiked to a range of phenanthrene levels (i.e., 1.12, 8.52, 73, 136, and 335 μg g dry soil). The bioaccumulation of phenanthrene in earthworm ( Eisenia fetida) was used as the reference system for bioavailability. Correlation results for phenanthrene suggested that mild HPCD extraction was a better method to predict bioavailability of phenanthrene in soil compared with organic solvents extraction. Aged (i.e., 150 days) and fresh (i.e., 0 day) soil samples were used to evaluate the extraction efficiency and the effect of soil contact time on the availability of phenanthrene. The percentage of phenanthrene accumulated by earthworms and percent recoveries by mild extractants changed significantly with aging time. Thus, aging significantly reduced the earthworm uptake and chemical extractability of phenanthrene. In general, among organic extractants, methanol showed recoveries comparable to those of mild HPCD for both aged and unaged soil matrices. Laser ablation coupled with inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry was used to find Cu and Zn concentration in surface tissue along a longitudinal developmental gradient with meristem, rapidly elongating tissue, and nongrowing tissue in a model system of seedling roots of Cucumis sativus L. (cucumber). Tissue metal accumulation was determined for roots of seedlings growing on cellulosic germination paper treated with nutrient solution (controls), and also treated with concentrations of Zn (40 ppm) and Cu (10 ppm) that reduced growth. Cu content of all roots is highest at the apex and falls sharply to lower values by 2 mm from the root tip. In contrast, at moderate Zn availability (0.07 ppm), Zn content rises from the apex to 2 mm then falls throughout the remainder of the growth zone. At high external Zn the spatial pattern resembles that of Cu. Cucumber root growth zones accumulate more of each metal with higher external availability. Metal deposition rates were calculated using a continuity equation with data on local metal content and growth velocity. Deposition rates of both metals are generally highest in the rapidly elongating region, 1.5–3.5 mm, even where metal concentration is decreasing with position and root age and even when the accumulation is inhibitory to growth. The distribution and mobility of manganese (Mn) in the hyperaccumulator plant species Phytolacca acinosa Roxb. (Phytolaccaceae) were investigated in a hydroponic system. The plants were exposed to 2 or 5 m M Mn for up to 28 days. For any given plant, the Mn content in the mature leaves (nos. 5–9) was always higher than that in the old (nos. 1–4) and young leaves (nos. 10–14). Within the different parts of a leaf, Mn was preferentially accumulated in the leaf marginal area, where the observed level was threefold higher than that in the midrib. Cross-sectional analysis of the leaf revealed that the concentration of Mn was higher in the leaf epidermis than in the mesophyll. Cell fractionation analysis with P. acinosa leaves showed that most of the Mn (78.4%) was present in the final supernatant fraction (following centrifugation at 20,000 g for 45 min). The distribution of Mn in the leaves of P. acinosa was controlled mainly by the transpiration rate. Our investigation demonstrated that Mn was readily transported from the roots to shoots of P. acinosa but that it could not be remobilized readily after it reached leaves. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
