2. Age of Uranium Mineralisation from North Delhi Fold Belt (NDFB): Evidences from U-Pb, Pb-Pb and Sm-Nd Systematics.

Results of multi-method geochronological study (U-Pb, Pb-Pb and Sm-Nd), on uranium mineralized rocks along the albitite line in the North Delhi Fold Belt (NDFB, Rajasthan, India) are presented. The Pb-Pb ages obtained, on uranium mineralized core samples, from Rohil uranium deposit, Sikar district, Rajasthan (south western part of NDFB), are 836 ± 5 Ma (Pb Sequential Leaching-PbSL, weighted average of 11 isochron ages), 826 ± 9 Ma (Pb-Pb isochron age on uraninite), 842 ± 18 Ma (U-Pb concordia upper intercept age, on uraninite). Similar ages of uraninites were also obtained from areas close to Rohil uranium deposit i.e. Jahaz (823 ± 10 Ma, U-Pb and 826 ± 14 Ma, Pb-Pb) and Ghateshwar areas (834 ± 14 Ma, U-Pb concordia upper intercept age and 826 ± 25 Ma, Pb-Pb isochron age). The ages of uranium mineralisation (PbSL) further in northeastern part of NDFB i.e. in Gorir area, Jhunjhunu district, Rajasthan, are 827 ± 7 Ma, 818 ± 24 Ma (PbSL) and in Dhancholi area, Mahendragarh Dist., Haryana, are 824 ± 12 Ma (U-Pb) and 824 ± 6.5 Ma (Pb-Pb). The above age data in general indicates age of uranium mineralization as 830 Ma in the NDFB. These ages are consistent with age of uranium mineralization in albitites from Brazil. Ndi 830 Ma = −14 that indicates source of uranium from crustal rocks which is around 1400 Ma older than the age of present dated uraninites. Probably metasediments of the Paleoproterozoic Delhi/ Aravalli Supergroup (c. 2200 Ma) or basement granite gneisses are the main source of uranium in the studied samples. 3. Thorium Metallogeny in U-Cu-REE bearing Singhbhum Shear Zone, Eastern India.

The long arcuate Singhbhum Shear Zone (SSZ) of around 160 km length having roughly an E-W trend hosts many uranium deposits and working uranium mines viz., Mohuldih, Bandhuhurang, Turamdih, Narwapahar, Bhatin, Jaduguda and Bagjata from west to east in addition to Cu deposits viz., Rakha, Mosabani etc. REE is well known from Kanyaluka area. Recent sub-surface exploration for uranium by AMD unravelled occurrence of thorite (ThSiO
4 )-bearing bands in a number of locations in western, central and eastern sectors of uranium mineralisation in SSZ, spanning over the entire shear zone. Thorite is observed in various host rocks involving metapelites of Dhanjori and Singhbhum Group and also in the Soda Granite/ feldspathic schist unit emplaced along the shear zone at the contact between the two groups. The individual lithounits that host thorite-bearing bands are restricted along the Singhbhum Shear Zone and include feldspathic schists (possible derivative of Soda Granite), albite veins, quartz-chlorite schists, quartz-biotite schists and sericite/muscovite-quartz schists. The thorite bearing zones transgresses lithology, stratigraphy as well as uraniferous zones along the shear zone evidently placing them as epigenetic hydrothermal mineralisation possibly later to major uranium metallogeny. Thorite occurs as discrete, rounded as well as subhedral to euhedral grains in various metapelites. They also form veins of their own besides occurring as phases within veins of albite and magnetite-apatite along the shear zone. Such multiple modes of occurrence and varied associated mineralogy suggest hitherto unknown thorium related hydrothermal mineralisation in SSZ. Presence of secondary thorium phases such as brockite (Ca-Thphosphate) as well as post tectonic vein-type occurrence, points towards the mobility of thorium under a hydrothermal regime as well. However, present study thus, for the first time, establish the occurrence of thorite along with REE-Th minerals showing definite evidences of thorium mobilisation in several sectors of the well know U-Cu province of Singhbhum Shear Zone. Thorium-REE mobility is a widely understudied domain and the present findings place the SSZ as an ideal ground for exploring the concept with more understanding of this metal. 4. A Multi-copy Nucleic Acid-Based Diagnostic Test for Bovine Tropical Theileriosis.

Background: Bovine tropical theileriosis (BTT) is a haemoprotozoan tick-borne disease that implicates huge losses to livestock in terms of considerable mortality and morbidity in tropical and subtropical regions of the globe. Currently available diagnostic methods have less specificity and sensitivity towards the detection of Theileria species. Therefore, an attempt was made to diagnose Theileria annulata by targeting a multi-copy gene, viz. mitochondrially encoded cytochrome b (MT-CYB) gene via polymerase chain reaction (PCR) in different agro-zones of India. Methods and Results: 129 cattle blood samples were collected from major livestock rearing regions of India and processed for both molecular and microscopic techniques. Screening of Giemsa-stained thin blood smears was able to detect 14 samples (10.85%) as positive for T. annulata. However, the MT-CYB gene-based PCR assay detected 107 samples (82.94%) positive for T. annulata out of 129 samples. Furthermore, the MT-CYB gene-based PCR assay was standardized in terms of its sensitivity and specificity. Specificity of PCR assay was evaluated against other common haemoprotozoan parasites of tropical countries viz. Babesia bigemina, Anaplasma marginale and Trypanosoma evansi. The multi-copy MT-CYB gene-based PCR assay provided an optimum level of sensitivity (up to the level of 10 femtogram) and high specificity. Haematological examination (Hb, PCV and TLC) of 113 samples revealed significantly (p < 0.05) decreased Hb and PCV levels in positive animals in comparison with the control group of healthy animals. However, the control group had significantly higher (p < 0.001) TLC levels than the positive group. Conclusion: The MT-CYB gene-based PCR assay was found to be highly sensitive that can accurately detect the occurrence of T. annulata infection in carrier animals which are potential infection sources to healthier populations in naive demographic locations through infected ticks. 5. Sulphur Isotopic Studies of Pyrite from Gogi Uranium Deposit, Bhima Basin, Karnataka.

Uranium deposit at Gogi area is located along the E-W Gundahalli-Gogi-Kurlegere (GK) fault, in the brecciated impure limestone of Shahabad Formation of the Bhima Group of sediments and the basement granite in the central part of the Meso-Neoproterozoic Bhima basin. Uranium mineralisation is associated mainly with sulphide bearing minerals and secondary calcite. Ore microscopic studies indicate that among the sulphide minerals pyrite is predominant (about 98%) with subordinate amounts of chalcopyrite, chalcocite, marcasite, arsenopyrite and galena. Megascopically, three different varieties of pyrite viz., euhedral, lumpy and vein types are identified in the limestone and siltstone. Ore microscopic studies reveal that vein type pyrite and lumpy pyrite are fractured and crushed. Euhedral pyrite is idiomorphic and devoid of any fractures. The pyrite samples were analysed for δ
34 S sulphur isotopes. The δ34 S values show a wide range from −30.51 to +20.77‰ (Canyon Diablo Troilite, CDT). δ34 S values of pyrite can be classified into three groups depending on the values. High values of +17.73 to +20.77 ‰ (CDT) of euhedral pyrite (Py-I) indicate sedimentary pyrite formed due to bacterial reduction of sea water sulphate in relatively closed system, while pyrite (Py-II) having negative values of δ34 S imply bacterial reduction of sea water sulphate in open system. The third group (Py-III) of pyrite have δ34 S values of −0.51‰ (CDT) and 7.38‰ (CDT), indicating their magmatic/hydrothermal origin. Kanchankayi is located in the central part of the 55 km long Kurlagere-Gogi-Gundanahalli (KG) fault of Meso-Neoproterozoic Bhima basin of Southern India. Intensive integrated exploration in Kanchankayi has established a concealed, fracture-controlled, low-grade uranium deposit. Uranium mineralisation is mostly confined within the fractured limestone of Shahabad Formation and partly within fractured basement granite. Tectonic movements along the KG fault in Kanchankayi area have resulted in the northward thrusting of basement granite over the Bhima sediments forming a reverse fault geometry. Structural mapping and subsurface exploration has established that the uranium mineralisation is mainly confined to the fault zone. In general, the fault zone is characterised by steep southerly dipping to vertical limestone beds. Iso-dip contouring was attempted on the beds having equal angle of dip, with the premise that steep southerly dipping and vertical beds will reveal the trend and location of the fault zone on the surface. The iso-dip contour map reveals that the contour depicting the fault zone initially follows the basement-sediment contact and further NE i.e. towards Kanchankayi and transgresses into the Bhima sediments. This suggests that the fault zone, instead of following the basement-sediment contact, moves within the basin in Kanchankayi. Recent sub-surface exploration in Kanchankayi has corroborated this interpretation. The innovative approach in utilizing structural mapping and iso-dip contouring has not only given a new dimension to the exploration programme at Kanchankayi but also provided a model technique for exploration of concealed, structure-controlled, hydrothermal, vein-type uranium mineralisation in parts of Bhima basin. The work presented in the article proposes a new rule-based energy management algorithm to improve the autonomy of hybrid (AC/DC) microgrids consisting of higher quantum of heating loads and renewable energy sources. The objective of the algorithm is to make the microgrids more autonomous by reducing the power import from the utility grid, during generation deficits. The heating or lighting loads in this work are considered as non-critical loads, and all other voltage sensitive loads are classified as critical loads. The presented strategy makes the AC and DC non-critical loads operate in power saving modes during generation insufficiency by controlling the electric springs based on the voltage produced by the renewables. Usage of electric springs in the microgrids consisting of AC and DC loads and a couple of renewable sources to improve the autonomous operation of microgrids is probably the first attempt. The advantage of using the suggested methodology is that it operates the voltage insensitive loads, based on the prevailing power generation condition without completely curtailing them. Further, the effectiveness of the algorithm is tested by developing suitable simulation models in MATLAB and also a scaled down laboratory setup is developed using dSPACE 1104 real-time operating system. Recommenders utilize the knowledge discovery-based methods for identifying information required by the user. The recommender system faces some serious challenges in recent years to access exponentially increasing information due to high number of Web site users. Some of the challenges posed in this respect are: The system should assure high-quality recommendations and high coverage even during data sparsity and produce more recommendations per second based on million users. To improve the performance of the recommender system, selecting appropriate features from the available highly redundant information is a crucial task. The feature selection technique will bring down the dimensionality and also discard the redundant and the noise-corrupted features. The collaborative filtering-based methods will make use of the past activities or the preferences like the user ratings or content information of the products to regulate the top references. This work proposes a fuzzy entropy-based deep learning for the content features as well as a feature selection method. Deep learning-based recommender process takes extended important consideration by overwhelming difficulties of conventional models and attaining high reference excellence. 9. Molecular mechanism of synthetic pyrethroid and organophosphate resistance in field isolates of Rhipicephalus microplus tick collected from a northern state of India.

The frequently used chemical control method to manage Rhipicephalus microplus is limited by the emergence of resistance populations. Understanding of resistance mechanisms is essential to develop strategy for sustainable management. The present study was focused on working out the molecular mechanisms of resistance against synthetic pyrethroids (SPs) and organophosphates (OPs) in field isolates of R. microplus collected from six districts of Uttar Pradesh, India. Adult immersion test with discriminating concentrations (AIT-DC) was used to determine resistance status of isolates to SPs (deltamethrin, cypermethrin) and OPs (diazinon, coumaphos). All the six isolates were found resistant to SPs with resistance factor (RF) of 2.9-58.6 and to one of the OP compounds, diazinon having RF of 3.5-13.7 but susceptible to coumaphos (RF < 1.4). Three R. microplus genes, viz. para-sodium channel domain II S4-5 linker, carboxylesterase (372 bp) and acetylcholinesterase 2 (1692 bp) were sequenced and compared with respective sequences of reference susceptible IVRI-I, reference OP resistant population (IVRI-III), IVRI-IV and multi-acaricide resistant population (IVRI-V) of R. microplus. A C190A mutation in the domain II S4-5 linker region of sodium channel gene leading to L64I amino acid substitution was detected in all six isolates. The G1120A mutation in the carboxylesterase gene could not be detected in any isolate. Five nucleotide substitutions viz., G138A, G889A, T1090A, C1234T and G1403A were identified in the acetylcholinesterase 2 gene leading to four amino acid substitutions. The findings of the study corroborate the role of mutation in sodium channel and acetylcholinesterase 2 genes in SP and OP resistance in this part of India. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Monitoring of acaricide resistance is considered as one of the important facets of integrated tick management. In an attempt of development of resistance monitoring indicators, in the present study two reference tick lines of Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus maintained in the Entomology laboratory, Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), Izatnagar, India, were studied to determine the possible contributing factors involved in development of resistance to deltamethrin. Electrophoretic profiling of esterase enzymes detected high activities of EST-1 in reference resistant tick colony designated as IVRI-IV whereas it was not detectable in reference susceptible IVRI-I line of R. (B.) microplus. Esterases were further characterized as carboxylesterase or acetylcholinesterase based on inhibitor study using PMSF, eserine sulphate, malathion, TPP and copper sulphate. The present study deals with the investigation of different degrees of genetic resistance/resilience of Uttarakhand hill goats to natural infection with gastrointestinal nematodes in order to introduce into breeding schemes. Animals were naturally infected with Haemonchus contortus, Teladorsagia circumcincta, Oesophagostomum spp. and Trichostrongylus spp. Faecal egg counts (FEC) were carried out every month for a period of 1 year and blood samples were collected every third month for the determination of indicator traits such as FEC, packed cell volume (PCV) and haemoglobin (Hb). The mean egg per gram (EPG), PCV and Hb were 1,579.6 ± 346, 35.12 ± 1.1 and 8.7 ± 0.2, respectively. The goats were divided into three groups (<800, 801-2,000 and >2,000) based on EPG. The EPG showed a negative correlation with both Hb and PCV (P<0.01). Therefore, it was concluded that the Hb and PCV value would decrease, if EPG increases. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Tropical theileriosis is a major protozoan disease of cattle and is associated with high rates of morbidity and mortality. Indigenous cattle ( Bos indicus) are less affected by this disease than exotic and crossbred cattle. Genetic basis of resistance to tropical theileriosis in indigenous cattle is not well studied. Recent reports suggest that number of immune response genes expressed differentially in exotic and indigenous breeds play an important role in breed specific resistance to tropical theileriosis. Such studies comparing expression of these genes in crossbred cattle and indigenous cattle are lacking. The present study compares the mRNA expression of immune-related genes in response to Theileria annulata infection in indigenous and crossbred cattle. Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) were isolated from blood samples of indigenous (Tharparkar) and crossbred (HF/BS/Jersey × Hariana) cattle and challenged with prepared ground-up tick supernatant carrying Theileria annulata sporozoites in vitro. qPCR was employed to measure relative mRNA expression of toll-like receptor 10 (TLR10), signal-regulatory protein alpha (SIRPA), MHC class II DQα (BoLA-DQA), musculoaponeurotic fibrosarcoma (MAF) and prion protein (PRNP) genes in infected and control PBMCs from crossbred and indigenous cattle. On the basis of comparative fold change analysis, significant up-regulation in SIRPA, PRNP and MHC DQα genes and significant down-regulation in TLR10, cMAF and MAFB genes in crossbreds as compared to indigenous cattle was observed. Results of the present study suggest that breed specific differential expression of the genes under study may contribute to the breed specific resistance to Theileria annulata infection in indigenous cattle compared to crossbred cattle. Unit commitment (UC) problem is one of the most important decision making problems in power system. In this paper the UC problem is solved by considering it as a real time problem by adding stochasticity in the generation side because of wind-thermal co-ordination system as well as stochasticity in the load side by incorporating the randomness of the load. The most important issue that needs to be addressed is the achievement of an economic unit commitment solution after solving UC as a real time problem. This paper proposes a hybrid approach to solve the stochastic UC problem considering the volatile nature of wind and formulating the UC problem as a chance constrained problem in which the load is met with high probability over the entire time period. 15. A solution to unit commitment problem using invasive weed optimization algorithm.

- Abstract
Unit commitment (UC) is one of the most important aspect of power generation in the world today. Though, there is no method to find the exact optimized solution, there exists several meta-heuristic algorithms to determine the close to exact solution. This paper proposes a novel solution to effectively determine UC and generation cost using the technique of invasive weed optimization (IWO). The existing technique distributes the load demand among all the generating units. The method proposed here utilizes the output of UC obtained by using the Lagrangian relaxation (LR) method and calculates the required generation from only the plants that are ON discarding the OFF generator units and thereby giving a faster and more accurate response. Moreover, the results show the comparison between the LR-particle swarm optimization (PSO) and LR-IWO, and prove that the cost of generation for a 4 unit, 8 hour schedule is much less in the case of IWO when compared to PSO. 16. Molecular characterization of surface antigen 3 (SAG3) gene of Toxoplasma gondii RH-IVRI strain.

Toxoplasmosis, caused by Toxoplasma gondii, is a zoonotic disease and is responsible for abortions, stillbirth, and neonatal complications in livestock, especially in sheep, goats, and pigs. The molecular characterization of the parasite having global distribution is considered important to delineate the phylogenetic relationship among different isolates/strains of the parasite. The present communication deals with the molecular cloning and sequence analysis of the 1,158 bp entire open reading frame of surface antigen 3 (SAG3) of T. gondii RH strain being maintained at the Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI). The sequence comparison analysis revealed 99.9 % homology with the published sequence of T. gondii RH strain, with a single substitution of guanine 'G' instead of adenine 'A' at the 397th position of SAG3 sequence. The substitution of single nucleotide consequently resulted in the change of one amino acid residue of aspartic acid (D) instead of asparagine (N) present in the published sequence of RH strain. 17. Comparison of various approaches for exposure of infraorbital rim fractures of zygoma.

- Abstract
The aim of this study was to randomly compare four incisionssubciliary, subtarsal, infraorbital and transconjunctival with lateral canthotomy for treatment of orbital rim or floor fractures. 40 patients with zygomatic complex fractures either isolated or in association with pan facial fractures, were selected for the study. They were divided into four groups of 10 patients each, Group I-Transconjunctival with lateral canthotomy, Group II-Subciliary [single eyelid incision], Group III-Subtarsal incision, and Group IV-Infraorbital incision. The following parameters were compared a) The average time from incision to fracture exposure b) The amount of exposure of the site provided c) The aesthetic appearance of the ‘scar’ d) Complications e) Factor of ‘time’ — its effect on scar and complications. The study revealed that all four incisions provided adequate exposure of fracture site and transconjunctival (22 minutes) required the maximum time for exposure. The complications included ectropion in group I and prolonged edema in group IV. Group II and III patients had relatively lesser number of complications. Group IV patients had visible scar as compared to no scar in group I patients. We conclude by saying that transconjunctival approach provides an excellent aesthetic result when done meticulously. However the subciliary and the subtarsal incisions provide a more rapid, direct approach to the orbital floor and infraorbital rim with minimal morbidity and an aesthetically acceptable scar. STUDY DESIGN:&EMSP;:A cross-sectional study that assessed people with spinal cord injury (SCI) and their carers who attended the 3-day health care program. OBJECTIVES:&EMSP;:The study examined the nature and prevalence of the factors associated with psychological morbidity among carers of people with SCI. SETTING:&EMSP;:A community reintegrated population of persons with SCI and their carers attended the 3-day program in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Christian Medical College Hospitals, Vellore, South India. METHODS:: Thirty-eight people with SCI and their carers participated in this cross-sectional study. RESULTS:: Thirty (78.9%) carers of people with SCI were psychologically distressed. While carers were distressed, they were not significantly depressed. Educational level of carers and suicidal behavior of people with SCI were significantly associated with psychological distress. CONCLUSION:&EMSP;:The findings of this study suggest that health care workers should have a high index of suspicion of psychological morbidity, in carers of people with SCI. Nanoindentation technique is employed for evaluation of mechanical properties of homogeneous materials at micro-level. Many engineering materials, especially cement and concrete composites, which are extensively used as building materials, exhibit phase heterogeneity and are highly porous. The presence of pores highly influences the response obtained from nanoindentation tests. In this study, mechanical properties of Calcium-Silicate-Hydrate (C-S-H), the primary binding agent in cementitious composites, are investigated using a simulated nanoindentation technique. The influence of presence of pores and its geometrical distribution on the non-linear response of C-S-H phases and the stress distribution are critically analysed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
