A study published in the journal Intensive Care Medicine explored the memories of patients who were admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) for severe COVID-19. The study found that 90.5% of patients interviewed reported memories of their ICU stay, with the majority of memories being positive, such as feelings of gratefulness towards healthcare providers and solidarity with other patients. However, some patients also reported negative memories, including physical discomfort and difficult communication. The study also found that six patients experienced dreams or hallucinations, mostly involving relatives and friends who were unable to visit the ICU due to pandemic restrictions. The study acknowledges its limitations, such as a small sample size and the unique nature of the COVID-19 experience. Further research is needed to understand the impact of ICU memories on long-term psychological outcomes. [Extracted from the article]
