This article reports the first occurrence of strawberry bacterial blight caused by Pantoea ananatis in Italy. In September 2021, a significant number of strawberry plants in a tunnel cultivation in Falcade, Veneto, showed symptoms of ooze production, leaf, flower, and pseudo-fruit rot. Bacterial isolates from the diseased plants were identified as Pantoea ananatis through genetic sequencing and pathogenicity tests confirmed their ability to cause the observed symptoms. The article focuses on the use of the fungicides Cyclo(L-Pro-L-Tyr), cyclo(L-Pro-L-Phe) and some of their hemisynthetic derivatives in a structure-activity relationship (SAR) study conducted for obtaining a safe bioherbicide.
