We describe the formation and characterization of a semi-organic NLO single crystal of sarcosine barium chloride (SBC) from aqueous solution by slow solvent evaporation method. FTIR analysis revealed that the known modes of vibrations of various molecular groups and were present, confirming of Barium Chloride ion. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images are examined and it provides the grain morphology of the sample and grain sharing of the sample. The chemical compositions of the SBC were confirmed by Energy Dispersive X-ray Analysis (EDAX).The optical property was characterized using UV–Vis-NIR spectrum, and the estimated UV lower cut off wavelength is 215 nm. The linear optical constant Energy band gap (E
g ) was premeditated. The third-order nonlinear optical properties of SBC were meticulously studied by Z-scan technique. The Z-scan procedure was used to calculate the non-linear refractive index n2 and susceptibility χ(3) . The saturation absorption and self-defocusing performance revealed by SBC. Photoluminescence properties of SBC crystal were additionally investigated. At diverse temperatures the Dielectric behavior and thermal analysis was carried out and reported. The mechanical strength at room temperature was carried out by Vickers micro hardness analysis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published
