The present work introduces a novel dataset—hereby called the SetembroBR corpus—for the study and development of depression and anxiety disorder predictive models in the Portuguese language based on the information prior to a diagnosis. The corpus comprises both text- and network-related information related to 3.9 thousand Twitter users who self-reported a diagnosis or treatment for a mental disorder, and its use is illustrated by a number of experiments addressing the issues of depression and anxiety disorder prediction from social media data. Our present results are intended as a first step towards investigating how mental health statuses are expressed on Portuguese-speaking social media, and pave the way for computational applications intended to assist with a pressing issue of great social interest. Public information access services are provided by dozens of countries around the world as a means to promote transparency and democracy, and present a number of research opportunities for the development of computational models that help understand both users and their needs. Based on these observations, the present work discusses how the use of Natural Language Processing (NLP) methods may harvest valuable knowledge about citizen-government communication in user profiling and satisfaction inference tasks. More specifically, from a large text dataset of this kind, we build a number of models using a range of supervised machine learning methods - including bidirectional long short-term memory networks (LSTMs), pre-trained context-sensitive embeddings (BERT) and others - and show that these outperform textual and non-textual baseline alternatives alike. This outcome makes a case in favour of NLP methods for these tasks, and paves the way for further applications in the public information access domain. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The design of data collection experiments involving human participants is a common task in Referring Expression Generation (REG) and related fields. Many (or most) REG data collection tasks are implemented by making use of a human–computer (e.g., web-based) communicative setting, in which participants do not have any particular addressee in mind and do not receive any feedback regarding the appropriateness (e.g., uniqueness) of the descriptions that they produce. Others, at a possibly higher cost, make use of participant pairs engaged in some form of dialogue in which hearers may provide feedback allowing speakers to rephrase ambiguous or otherwise ill-formed descriptions. Leaving the issue of cost aside, however, it remains unclear whether the two methods elicit similar referring expressions for the purpose of REG research. To shed light on this issue, this paper presents a REG corpus built under three experimental conditions: a standard human–computer (or web-based) setting in which no feedback is available to the speaker, and two settings in which feedback regarding the appropriateness of the description may be provided either by an automated parsing tool or by a second participant at the receiving end of the communication. The corpus contains fully annotated descriptions in two domains—simple geometric objects and realistic human face images—and it is provided as a resource for the training and testing of REG algorithms in these communicative settings. Toxoplasmosis is a zoonosis caused by Toxoplasma gondii, which can be acquired by oral contact and may cause severe health problems especially for pregnant (congenital toxoplasmosis) and immunocompromised patients. This study aimed to verify the diagnostic significance of hematological parameters and C-reactive protein (CRP) for toxoplasmosis acute detection. A case-control study was carried out between December 2017 and May 2018, in samples of convenience independent of age and sex. The case group was formed by 25 patients with positive anti-Toxoplasma gondii IgG/IgM antibody and the control group was formed by 21 patients with non-positive anti-Toxoplasma gondii IgG/IgM antibody. The results of the hematological parameters and CRP were analyzed in these patients. The patients with Toxoplasma gondii IgM antibody reagent showed higher lymphocytes counting and lower neutrophils counting than the control group. C-reactive protein levels were not different between the groups case and control. ROC curve analysis highlighted that the cut-off value of > 32.00% for lymphocytes and < 57.50% for neutrophils were able to produce specificity higher than 90% for IgM antibody detection. The Naïve Bayes classifier was considered suitable (AUC ≈ 0.700) to separate both groups according to their white cell counting. Changes in lymphocytes and neutrophils may be useful parameters for toxoplasmosis identification and may be used as a tool in the complementary diagnosis of toxoplasmosis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Recently, an outbreak of human toxoplasmosis was identified in Santa Maria city, Southern Brazil. However, the suspected vehicle of Toxoplasma gondii contamination in this region remains unclear. This study was conduct to analyze whether pork meat samples collected in supermarkets from Santa Maria city, RS, could be infected with T. gondii. Thus, we analyzed the presence of T. gondii DNA in 20 pork hearts, 20 pork tongues and 20 sausages. DNA was extracted from each sample and real-time PCR was performed using 529-bp and B1 markers. T. gondii genotyping was performed by PCR–RFLP analysis. T. gondii DNA was detected in 2 of 20 (10%) heart samples and in 1 of 20 (5%) tongue samples using 529-bp marker. Besides, those 2 (10%) heart samples also were positive for T. gondii using B1 marker. All sausage samples were negative for both markers. Genotyping revealed a new atypical genotype in the pork meat. Our findings were not able to confirm whether these food samples were involved in some outbreak. However, we can conclude that food samples containing T. gondii can be displayed in Santa Maria supermarkets. In addition, a new T. gondii genotype was identified circulating in southern Brazil. Industrial sectors that operate in uncertain environments - with demand variability, product seasonality and different industrialisation structures - need studies that enable identification and forecast trends. Therefore, the development of competitiveness extends beyond a company’s individual performance. Collective action, whether toward consumer markets, supplier markets, competitors and substitutes, can reinforce or help reformulate the current practices of an organisation, besides providing better results in the development of strategies and competitive positioning. Thus, clothing, the sector addressed in this work, is characterised by a long, fragmented, heterogeneous production chain, the competitiveness of which is linked to product differentiation. Therefore, the use of systemic approaches to study this sector is effective. In this sense, this research aims at adapting Systems Thinking and Scenario Planning (STSP) so that it supports the development and planning process in a given sector. Thus, this research applies STSP adapted to an analysis of the clothing sector in the northern region of Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil. As a result, in academic terms, this research proposed and validated a method for analysing industrial sectors of the clothing industry. In the sectoral context, this research identified elements that leverage the sector’s competitiveness, besides generating knowledge and learning aimed at strengthening the sectoral structure identified, and fostering the formation of a new clothing cluster. This paper presents the Stars2 corpus of definite descriptions for referring expression generation (REG). The corpus was produced in collaborative communication involving speaker-hearer pairs, and includes situations of reference that are arguably under-represented in similar work. Stars2 is intended as an incremental contribution to the research in REG and related fields, and it may be used both as training/test data for algorithms of this kind, and also to gain further insights into reference phenomena in general, with a particular focus on the issue of attribute choice in referential overspecification. The possibility to provide multimedia services over a wide area using small mobile terminals represents a challenging task. This task is even more challenging especially if high frequency bands are used and high service availability is required, considering that the atmospheric conditions are very severe and geographically variable within a wide area. The use of high frequencies is necessary to provide wideband services at high data rate for a large number of users and the link availability has to be comparable with that provided by other systems working at lower bands. In the frame of the Advanced Communications Technologies and Services program of the European Union a team of thirteen partners is working since September 1995 on the design of a satellite system named SECOMS (Satellite EHF COmmunications Multimedia Services) (Losquadro and Vatalaro, 1995; Losquadro, 1996). The system aims at providing multimedia services by means of GEO satellites utilising set top or palm top terminals working respectively at Ka band (20/30 GHz) and at EHF band (40/45 GHz). Within the SECOMS project the problems mentioned above have been studied in depth and the main system parameters have been finalised. This paper aims at a description of the main system characteristics of the SECOMS project and suggesting a design approach for satellite systems providing multimedia services to mobile users. The proposed approach consists in providing an adjustment (static or dynamic) of the satellite EIRP among the spot beams to get the same link availability within the coverage area using the same terminal, considering that the distribution of rain fade statistics depends on the location.
