Abstract The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has imposed substantial impacts on the global hotel industry. This study employed a two-tier stochastic frontier model to investigate the dynamics of transaction information distribution within the tourist hotel lodging prices in Taiwan from July 2019 to November 2020. The primary objective was to analyze the disparities in price information between consumers and hoteliers before and after the outbreak of COVID-19. Empirical findings reveal a notable reduction in the divergence of lodging price information between consumers and hoteliers post the COVID-19 outbreak, particularly in metropolitan areas. The shift in consumer group structures within hotel operations induced by the pandemic has, in turn, exerted an influence on the pricing strategies adopted by hoteliers. The empirical results underscore that the outbreak of COVID-19 has contributed to a more transparent and comprehensive market price information environment, consequently diminishing the asymmetry in information between hoteliers and consumers.

Background: Invadopodia facilitate cancer cell extravasation, but the molecular mechanism whereby invadopodia-specific proteases such as MT1-MMP are called to invadopodia is unclear. Methods: Mass spectrometry and immunoprecipitation were used to identify interactors of MT1-MMP in metastatic breast cancer cells. After identification, siRNA and small molecule inhibitors were used to assess the effect these interactors had on cellular invasiveness. The chicken embryo chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) model was used to assess extravasation and invadopodia formation in vivo. Results: In metastatic breast cancer cells, MT1-MMP was found to associate with plectin, a cytolinker and scaffolding protein. Complex formation between plectin and MT1-MMP launches invadopodia formation, a subtype we termed iplectin (i = invadopodial). iPlectin delivers MT1-MMP to invadopodia and is indispensable for regulating cell surface levels of the enzyme. Genetic depletion of plectin with siRNA reduced invadopodia formation and cell invasion in vitro. In vivo extravasation efficiency assays and intravital imaging revealed iplectin to be a key contributor to invadopodia ultrastructure and essential for extravasation. Pharmacologic inhibition of plectin using the small molecule Plecstatin-1 (PST-1) abrogated MT1-MMP delivery to invadopodia and extravasation efficiency. Conclusions: Anti-metastasis therapeutic approaches that target invadopodia are possible by disrupting interactions between MT1-MMP and iplectin. Background: The higher pathologic complete response (pCR) after neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy compared with neoadjuvant chemotherapy for locally advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) has not translated into significant gains in overall survival. Data on the long-term survival of patients who obtained a pCR after neoadjuvant chemotherapy are scarce. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the long-term prognosis and recurrence patterns in these patients. Methods: The study enrolled patients with locally advanced ESCC after neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by surgery in the authors' hospital between January 2007 and December 2020. The factors predictive of pCR were analyzed. Furthermore, propensity score-matching was performed for those who did and those who did not have a pCR using 1:5 ratio for a long-term survival analysis. Finally, the survival and recurrence patterns of patients obtaining pCR after neoadjuvant chemotherapy were analyzed. Results: A pCR was achieved for 61 (8.70%) of the 701 patients in the study. Univariate analysis showed that the patients without alcohol drinking had a higher possibility of obtaining a pCR, although multivariate analysis failed to confirm the difference as significant. After propensity score-matching, the 5-year overall survival was 84.50% for the patients who had a pCR and 52.90% for those who did not (p < 0.001). Among the 61 patients with a pCR, 9 patients (14.80%) experienced recurrence, including 6 patients with locoregional recurrence and 3 patients with distant metastasis. Conclusion: Advanced ESCC patients with pCR after neoadjuvant chemotherapy had a favorable prognosis, yet some still experienced recurrence, particularly locoregional recurrence. Extracellular ATP (eATP) signaling through the P2X7 receptor pathway is widely believed to trigger NLRP3 inflammasome assembly in microglia, potentially contributing to depression. However, the cellular stress responses of microglia to both eATP and stress itself remain largely unexplored. Mitochondria-associated membranes (MAMs) is a platform facilitating calcium transport between the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and mitochondria, regulating ER stress responses and mitochondrial homeostasis. This study aims to investigate how MAMs influence microglial reaction and their involvement in the development of depression-like symptoms in response to chronic social defeat stress (CSDS). CSDS induced ER stress, MAMs' modifications, mitochondrial damage, and the formation of the IP3R3-GRP75-VDAC1 complex at the ER-mitochondria interface in hippocampal microglia, all concomitant with depression-like behaviors. Additionally, exposing microglia to eATP to mimic CSDS conditions resulted in analogous outcomes. Furthermore, knocking down GRP75 in BV2 cells impeded ER-mitochondria contact, calcium transfer, ER stress, mitochondrial damage, mitochondrial superoxide production, and NLRP3 inflammasome aggregation induced by eATP. In addition, reduced GRP75 expression in microglia of Cx3cr1CreER/+Hspa9f/+ mice lead to reduce depressive behaviors, decreased NLRP3 inflammasome aggregation, and fewer ER-mitochondria contacts in hippocampal microglia during CSDS. Here, we show the role of MAMs, particularly the formation of a tripartite complex involving IP3R3, GRP75, and VDAC1 within MAMs, in facilitating communication between the ER and mitochondria in microglia, thereby contributing to the development of depression-like phenotypes in male mice. Malfunctioning of cellular organelles, such as the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and mitochondria, can have a role in stress-induced pathophysiological changes. Background and Aims: Selection effect (SE) and complementarity effect (CE) are often considered as two key indicators to mediate the positive diversity-productivity relationship in the maize-legume intercropping system, as intercropping generally enables crops to use the available resources more efficiently than monoculture. Yet, it is unclear whether soil moisture drives the SE and CE transformation, plant-plant interaction, and accordingly affect the productivity. Methods: A two-year field experiment was conducted to explore the impacts of soil water status (with and without plastic mulching) on interspecific interaction and productivity and its key mechanism in the maize-faba bean intercropping system. Results: Low soil moisture reduced the net effect (NE) and land equivalent ratio (LER) with evident yield loss (NE < 0 and LER = 1.05), whereas the improved soil moisture reversed this trend and resulted in overyielding (NE > 0 and LER = 1.13). Regardless of soil moisture, faba bean was the dominant species and maize was the inferior one. Low soil moisture promoted the contribution of SE to productivity (P < 0.05). In contrast, high moisture turned to lower the competition intensity of faba bean against maize and accordingly promote the transformation of biodiversity effect from SE to CE. The main mechanism was that the water competition imposed by faba bean strips on maize ones decreased the NE through reducing photosynthetic rate and water use efficiency of maize. Conclusion: The adaptive transitions of interspecific relationship and the biodiversity effect were driven by soil water availability. Objective: To explore the regulatory effect of Pien Tze Huang (PZH) on targeting partner of NOB1 (PNO1) and it's down-stream mediators in colorectal cancer (CRC) cells. Methods: Quantitative polymerase chain reaction was performed to determine mRNA levels of PNO1, TP53, and CDKN1A. Western blotting was performed to determine protein levels of PNO1, p53, and p21. HCT-8 cells were transduced with a lentivirus over-expressing PNO1. Colony formation assay was used to detect cell survival in PNO1 overexpression of HCT-8 cells after PZH treatment. Cell-cycle distribution, cell viability and cell apoptosis were performed to identify the effect of PNO1 overexpression on cell proliferation and apoptosis of HCT-8 cells after PZH treatment. Xenograft BALB/c nude mice bearing HCT116 cells transduced with sh-PNO1 or sh-Ctrl lentivirus were evaluated. Western blot assay was performed to detect PNO1, p53, p21 and PCNA expression in tumor sections. Terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase dUTP nick end labling (TUNEL) assay was used to determine the apoptotic cells in tissues. Results: PZH treatment decreased cell viability, down-regulated PNO1 expression, and up-regulated p53 and p21 expressions in HCT-8 cells (P<0.05). PNO1 overexpression attenuated the effects of PZH treatment, including the expression of p53 and p21, cell growth, cell viability, cell cycle arrest and cell apoptosis in vitro (P<0.05). PNO1 knockdown eliminated the effects of PZH treatment on tumor growth, inhibiting cell proliferation inhibition and apoptosis induction in vivo (P<0.05). Similarly, PNO1 knockdown attenuated the effects of PZH treatment on the down-regulation of PNO1 and up-regulation of p53 and p21 in vivo (P<0.05). Conclusion: The mechanism by which PZH induces its CRC anti-proliferative effect is at least in part by regulating the expression of PNO1 and its downstream targets p53 and p21. Purpose: Although ongoing studies are assessing the efficacy of new systemic therapies for patients with triple negative breast cancer (TNBC), the overwhelming majority have excluded patients with brain metastases (BM). Therefore, we aim to characterize systemic therapies and outcomes in a cohort of patients with TNBC and BM managed with stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) and delineate predictors of increased survival. Methods: We used our prospective patient registry to evaluate data from 2012 to 2023. We included patients who received SRS for TNBC-BM. A competing risk analysis was conducted to assess local and distant control. Results: Forty-three patients with 262 tumors were included. The median overall survival (OS) was 16 months (95% CI 13–19 months). Predictors of increased OS after initial SRS include Breast GPA score > 1 (p < 0.001) and use of immunotherapy such as pembrolizumab (p = 0.011). The median time on immunotherapy was 8 months (IQR 4.4, 11.2). The median time to new CNS lesions after the first SRS treatment was 17 months (95% CI 12–22). The cumulative rate for development of new CNS metastases after initial SRS at 6 months, 1 year, and 2 years was 23%, 40%, and 70%, respectively. Thirty patients (70%) underwent multiple SRS treatments, with a median time of 5 months (95% CI 0.59–9.4 months) for the appearance of new CNS metastases after second SRS treatment. Conclusions: TNBC patients with BM can achieve longer survival than might have been previously anticipated with median survival now surpassing one year. The "dual-carbon" objective presents a huge challenge for China and the world, with profound implications for the advancement of China's eco-friendly economy. Additionally, informatization development has a significant impact on the level of carbon emissions in both local and neighbouring regions. Therefore, we employ panel data from 30 provinces in China spanning the years 2012 to 2021, and use the Kernel density estimate and Moran's index to explore informatization level and carbon emissions space agglomeration characteristics. We elucidate the nonlinear relationship and heterogeneity between informatization improvement and carbon emissions based on the spatial Durbin model. The primary findings are as follows. Firstly, we discover a distinct spatial clustering phenomenon which the informatization level is high in coastal areas and low in inland areas, whereas carbon emissions are low in the south and high in the north. Secondly, the effect of the informatization level on carbon emissions is shown as a U-shaped and non-linear correlation, signifying inhibitory and subsequently promoting phases. Thirdly, we reveal the negative influence on carbon emissions caused by spatial lag terms of the informatization level, and find that a higher local informatization level will have an inhibitory effect on carbon emissions in neighbouring areas. Finally, there is a spatial heterogeneity in the impact of the informatization level on carbon emissions, which presents the U-shaped relation between informatization level and carbon emissions varies across the North-South subregion and the three major economic subregion of China. All-solid-state batteries using Si as the anode have shown promising performance without continual solid-electrolyte interface (SEI) growth. However, the first cycle irreversible capacity loss yields low initial Coulombic efficiency (ICE) of Si, limiting the energy density. To address this, we adopt a prelithiation strategy to increase ICE and conductivity of all-solid-state Si cells. A significant increase in ICE is observed for Li1Si anode paired with a lithium cobalt oxide (LCO) cathode. Additionally, a comparison with lithium nickel manganese cobalt oxide (NCM) reveals that performance improvements with Si prelithiation is only applicable for full cells dominated by high anode irreversibility. With this prelithiation strategy, 15% improvement in capacity retention is achieved after 1000 cycles compared to a pure Si. With Li1Si, a high areal capacity of up to 10 mAh cm–2 is attained using a dry-processed LCO cathode film, suggesting that the prelithiation method may be suitable for high-loading next-generation all-solid-state batteries. All-solid-state batteries with silicon anodes have high capacities but low initial coulombic efficiencies (ICEs) because of first cycle irreversible capacity loss. A piezoelectric composite circular plate energy harvester is modeled and analyzed based on a nonlinear plate theory. The harvester consists of a bimorph piezoelectric circular plate and a rigid body. The nonlinear electromechanical coupling equations are derived from the Hamilton principle and the von Karman plate theory with the account for the structural weight. The equations are discretized via the Galerkin truncation method (GTM) for the vibration around the equilibrium configuration. The discrete equations are approximately solved via the harmonic balance method (HBM) with the convergence considerations. Moreover, the solutions are validated by the Runge–Kutta method (RKM) and the finite element simulations. The account for the structural weight leads to the asymmetricity in the relation of the restoring force and the deformation. The amplitude-frequency response curves display a typical hardened nonlinear behavior in the first-order vibration mode and a linear behavior in the second-order vibration mode. Parametric studies demonstrate the effects of the rigid body mass, the external excitation amplitude, the load resistance, and the piezoelectric composite plate size on harvesting the performance. Background: Myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG) antibody-associated disease (MOGAD) is an autoimmune demyelinating disorder of the central nervous system. Methods: Extracted proteins from 34 cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) samples [patients with MOGAD (MOG group, n = 12); healthy controls (HC group, n = 12); patients with MOG seronegative and metagenomics next-generation sequencing-negative inflammatory neurological diseases (IND group, n = 10)] were processed and subjected to label-free quantitative proteomics. Supervised partial least squares-discriminant analysis (PLS-DA) and orthogonal PLS-DA (O-PLS-DA) models were also performed based on proteomics data. Functional analysis of differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) was performed using Gene Ontology, InterPro, and Kyoto Encyclopedia Genes and Genomes. An enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was used to determine the complement levels in serum from patients with MOGAD. Results: Four hundred and twenty-nine DEPs (149 upregulated and 280 downregulated proteins) were identified in the MOG group compared to the HC group according to the P value and fold change (FC). Using the O-PLS-DA model, 872 differentially abundant proteins were identified with variable importance projection (VIP) scores > 1. Five proteins (gamma-glutamyl hydrolase, cathepsin F, interalpha-trypsin inhibitor heavy chain 5, latent transforming growth factor beta-binding protein 4 and leukocyte-associated immunoglobulin-like receptor 1) overlapping between the top 30 DEPs with top-ranked P value and FC and top 30 proteins in PLS-DA VIP lists were acquired. Functional analysis revealed that the dysregulated proteins in the MOG group were primarily involved in complement and coagulation cascades, cell adhesion, axon guidance, and glycosphingolipid biosynthesis compared to the HC group. Conclusion: The proteomic alterations in CSF samples from children with MOGAD identified in the current study might provide opportunities for developing novel biomarker candidates. Membrane technology has become one of the most promising separation technologies for its energy saving, high separation efficiency, environmental friendliness, and economic feasibility. Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) with intrinsically high porosity, controllable pore size, uniform pore size distribution and long-range ordered channel structure, have emerged as next-generation materials to fabricate advanced separation membranes. This feature article summarizes some latest studies in the development of pure COF membranes in our lab, including their fabrication and applications in chemical separations. Background: The clinical efficacy and safety of intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIg) treatment for COVID-19 remain controversial. This study aimed to map the current status and gaps of available evidence, and conduct a meta-analysis to further investigate the benefit of IVIg in COVID-19 patients. Methods: Electronic databases were searched for systematic reviews/meta-analyses (SR/MAs), primary studies with control groups, reporting on the use of IVIg in patients with COVID-19. A random-effects meta-analysis with subgroup analyses regarding study design and patient disease severity was performed. Our outcomes of interest determined by the evidence mapping, were mortality, length of hospitalization (days), length of intensive care unit (ICU) stay (days), number of patients requiring mechanical ventilation, and adverse events. Results: We included 34 studies (12 SR/MAs, 8 prospective and 14 retrospective studies). A total of 5571 hospitalized patients were involved in 22 primary studies. Random-effects meta-analyses of very low to moderate evidence showed that there was little or no difference between IVIg and standard care or placebo in reducing mortality (relative risk [RR] 0.91; 95% CI 0.78–1.06; risk difference [RD] 3.3% fewer), length of hospital (mean difference [MD] 0.37; 95% CI − 2.56, 3.31) and ICU (MD 0.36; 95% CI − 0.81, 1.53) stays, mechanical ventilation use (RR 0.92; 95% CI 0.68–1.24; RD 2.8% fewer), and adverse events (RR 0.98; 95% CI 0.84–1.14; RD 0.5% fewer) of patients with COVID-19. Sensitivity analysis using a fixed-effects model indicated that IVIg may reduce mortality (RR 0.76; 95% CI 0.60–0.97), and increase length of hospital stay (MD 0.68; 95% CI 0.09–1.28). Conclusion: Very low to moderate certainty of evidence indicated IVIg may not improve the clinical outcomes of hospitalized patients with COVID-19. Given the discrepancy between the random- and fixed-effects model results, further large-scale and well-designed RCTs are warranted. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background and aims: The important role of extracellular vesicles (EVs) in liver fibrosis has been confirmed. However, EVs derived from liver sinusoidal endothelial cells (LSECs) in the activation of hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) and liver fibrosis is still unclear. Our previous work demonstrated that Aldosterone (Aldo) may have the potential to regulate EVs from LSECs via autophagy pathway. Thus, we aim to investigate the role of Aldo in the regulation of EVs derived from LSECs. Approach and results: Using an Aldo-continuous pumping rat model, we observed that Aldo-induced liver fibrosis and capillarization of LSECs. In vitro, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) revealed that stimulation of Aldo led to the upregulation of autophagy and degradation of multivesicular bodies (MVBs) in LSECs. Mechanistically, Aldo upregulated ATP6V0A2, which promoted lysosomal acidification and subsequent autophagy in LSECs. Inhibiting autophagy with si-ATG5 adeno-associated virus (AAV) in LSECs effectively mitigated Aldo-induced liver fibrosis in rats. RNA sequencing and nanoparticle tracking (NTA) analyses of EVs derived from LSECs indicated that Aldo result in a decrease in both the quantity and quality of EVs. We also observed a reduction in the protective miRNA-342-5P in EVs derived from Aldo-treated LSECs, which may play a critical role in HSCs activation. Target knockdown of EV secretion with si-RAB27a AAV in LSECs led to the development of liver fibrosis and HSC activation in rats. Conclusion: Aldo-induced Autophagic degradation of MVBs in LSECs promotes a decrease in the quantity and quality of EVs derived from LSECs, resulting in the activation of HSCs and liver fibrosis under hyperaldosteronism. Modulating the autophagy level of LSECs and their EV secretion may represent a promising therapeutic approach for treating liver fibrosis. In a physiological state, LSECs transmit inhibitory signals to HSCs via the secretion of EVs that are rich in miR-342-5p. However, in pathological conditions, the elevated levels of serum aldosterone induce capillarization and excessive autophagy in LSECs. This autophagy leads to the degradation of MVBs in LSECs, resulting in a reduction of the number of EVs and miR-342-5p content within EVs. This reduction ultimately leads to a diminished inhibitory signal transmitted to HSCs, thereby activating HSCs and promoting the development of liver fibrosis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this work, black TiO2 (BTiO2) loaded on black red mud (BRM) was successfully prepared with the conversion of Fe2O3 into magnetic Fe3O4 in red mud and the reduction of partial Ti4+ to Ti3+ in TiO2 via the facile sol–gel method and H2 reduction treatment. The obtained low-cost BRM/BTiO2 composites exhibit remarkable photocatalytic degradation toward rhodamine B (91.2%) and tetracycline (83.6%) under visible light irradiation, much better than pristine TiO2. This enhancement is attributed to the narrow bandgap with the desired solar-light excitation, the black color with good solar-light absorption, and the heterojunctions with the efficient separation of photogenerated electron–hole pairs. Moreover, the desired magnetic separation of BRM/BTiO2 composites realizes the recycle and recovery of photocatalysts, favoring practical applications in environment. This work provides a cost-efficiency way to prepare RM-supported TiO2 composites for treating organic pollutants in the wastewater, which is of great significance to the comprehensive utilization of RM waste, the cost saving of the photocatalyst, and the visible-light active enhancement of TiO2. Purpose: The expression of PD-L1 in high-grade meningiomas made it a potential target for immunotherapy research in refractory cases. Several prospective studies in this field are still on going. We sought to retrospectively investigate the effects of check-point inhibitors (CI) on meningiomas that had been naïve to either surgical or radiation approaches by following incidental meningiomas found during treatment with CI for various primary metastatic cancers. Methods: We used the NYU Perlmutter Cancer Center Data Hub to find patients treated by CI for various cancers, who also had serial computerized-tomography (CT) or magnetic-resonance imaging (MRI) reports of intracranial meningiomas. Meningioma volumetric measurements were compared between the beginning and end of the CI treatment period. Patients treated with chemotherapy during this period were excluded. Results: Twenty-five patients were included in our study, of which 14 (56%) were on CI for melanoma, 5 (20%) for non-small-cell lung cancer and others. CI therapies included nivolumab (n = 15, 60%), ipilimumab (n = 11, 44%) and pembrolizumab (n = 9, %36), while 9 (36%) were on ipilimumab/nivolumab combination. We did not find any significant difference between tumor volumes before and after treatment with CI (1.31 ± 0.46 vs. 1.34 ± 0.46, p=0.8, respectively). Among patients beyond 1 year of follow-up (n = 13), annual growth was 0.011 ± 0.011 cm3/year. Five patients showed minor volume reduction of 0.12 ± 0.10 cm3 (21 ± 6% from baseline). We did not find significant predictors of tumor volume reduction. Conclusion: Check-point inhibitors may impact the natural history of meningiomas. Empirical findings reveal a notable reduction in the divergence of lodging price information between consumers and hoteliers post the COVID-19 outbreak, particularly in metropolitan areas. The shift in consumer group structures within hotel operations induced by the pandemic has, in turn, exerted an influence on the pricing strategies adopted by hoteliers. The empirical results underscore that the outbreak of COVID-19 has contributed to a more transparent and comprehensive market price information environment, consequently diminishing the asymmetry in information between hoteliers and consumers. Zn–Cd alloys are important industrial materials which have attracted much attentions in recent years. But, few reports on Zn–Cd clusters are currently available. An interesting structural feature in previous studies is that Zn and Cd atoms do not mix in binary Zn–Cd clusters. However, the analysis based on the empirical potential function can only give very limited structure information about them. Here, geometric structures of (Zn–Cd)n (n = 1–9) clusters are globally searched by the unbiasedly genetic algorithm with DFT methods. We found that the ground state structures of Zn–Cd clusters are singlet states and prefer compact characteristics, where the Cd atoms prefer to be located on the surfaces of the structures, thus coating Zn atoms that are for the kernel growths. The Eb and Δ2E results show that the (Zn–Cd)2 and (Zn–Cd)5 clusters have higher stability than that of their neighbors. The molecular dynamics simulations verify that they still have excellent thermal stability at 700 K. The molecular orbitals and DOS reveal that the 8/20 valence electrons of the (Zn–Cd)2 and (Zn–Cd)5 clusters fill the superatomic shells resulting in electronic configurations of 1S21P6/1S21P61D102S2, respectively. Moreover, we considered different adsorption structures of (Zn–Cd)2 with one CO molecule, and only the four stable isomers are finally obtained. Hyperentanglement, the simultaneous entanglement in more than one degree of freedom (DOF), plays an important role in quantum communication and quantum information processing for it can effectively increase the channel capacity. Existing hyperentanglement sources mainly focus on the generation of the hyperentanglement in two DOFs. In this paper, we design the generation protocols for three kinds of hyperentanglement encoded in three DOFs with the practical coherent pulses sources, including the polarization-frequency-space hyperentanglement, the polarization-frequency-time-bin hyperentanglement, and the polarization-space-time-bin hyperentanglement. These protocols exploit the spontaneous parametric down-conversion (SPDC) process and the Sagnac interferometer. The three protocols are all based on feasible experimental condition and may have potential applications in future hyperentanglement-based quantum communication and quantum information processing protocols. Main conclusion: The hierarchical architecture of chromatins affects the gene expression level of glandular secreting trichomes and the artemisinin biosynthetic pathway-related genes, consequently bringing on huge differences in the content of artemisinin and its derivatives of A. annua. The plant of traditional Chinese medicine "Qinghao" is called Artemisia annua L. in Chinese Pharmacopoeia. High content and the total amount of artemisinin is the main goal of A. annua breeding, nevertheless, the change of chromatin organization during the artemisinin synthesis process has not been discovered yet. This study intended to find the roles of chromatin structure in the production of artemisinin through bioinformatics and experimental validation. Chromosome conformation capture analysis was used to scrutinize the interactions among chromosomes and categorize various scales of chromatin during artemisinin synthesis in A. annua. To confirm the effect of the changes in chromatin structure, Hi-C and RNA-sequencing were performed on two different strains to find the correlation between chromatin structure and gene expression levels on artemisinin synthesis progress and regulation. Our results revealed that the frequency of intra-chromosomal interactions was higher in the inter-chromosomal interactions between the root and leaves on a high artemisinin production strain (HAP) compared to a low artemisinin production strain (LAP). We found that compartmental transition was connected with interactions among different chromatins. Interestingly, glandular secreting trichomes (GSTs) and the artemisinin biosynthetic pathway (ABP) related genes were enriched in the areas which have the compartmental transition, reflecting the regulation of artemisinin synthesis. Topologically associated domain boundaries were associated with various distributions of genes and expression levels. Genes associated with ABP and GST in the adjacent loop were highly expressed, suggesting that epigenetic regulation plays an important role during artemisinin synthesis and glandular secreting trichomes production process. This study aimed to investigate the spatial distribution of metal elements in PM10 and their potential sources and associated health risks over a period of two years in eight locations in the central part of western Taiwan. The study revealed that the mass concentration of PM10 and the total mass concentration of 20 metal elements in PM10 were 39.0 μg m−3 and 4.74 μg m−3, respectively, with total metal elements accounting for approximately 13.0% of PM10. Of the total metal elements, 95.6% were crustal elements (Al, Ca, Fe, K, Mg, and Na), with trace elements (As, Ba, Cd, Cr, Co, Cu, Ga, Mn, Ni, Pb, Sb, Se, V, and Zn) contributing only 4.4%. Spatially, the inland areas exhibited higher PM10 concentrations due to lee-side topography and low wind speeds. In contrast, the coastal regions exhibited higher total metal concentrations because of the dominance of crustal elements from sea salt and crustal soil. Four primary sources of metal elements in PM10 were identified as sea salt (58%), re-suspended dust (32%), vehicle emissions and waste incineration (8%), and industrial emissions and power plants (2%). The positive matrix factorization (PMF) analysis results indicated that natural sources like sea salt and road dust contributed up to 90% of the total metal elements in PM10, while only 10% was attributed to human activities. The excess cancer risks (ECRs) associated with As, Co, and Cr(VI) were greater than 1 × 10−6, and the total ECR was 6.42 × 10−5. The pulverization of lithium metal electrodes during cycling recently has been suppressed through various techniques, but the issue of irreversible consumption of the electrolyte remains a critical challenge, hindering the progress of energy-dense lithium metal batteries. Here, we design a single-ion-conductor-based composite layer on the lithium metal electrode, which significantly reduces the liquid electrolyte loss via adjusting the solvation environment of moving Li+ in the layer. A Li||Ni0.5Mn0.3Co0.2O2 pouch cell with a thin lithium metal (N/P of 2.15), high loading cathode (21.5 mg cm−2), and carbonate electrolyte achieves 400 cycles at the electrolyte to capacity ratio of 2.15 g Ah−1 (2.44 g Ah−1 including mass of composite layer) or 100 cycles at 1.28 g Ah−1 (1.57 g Ah−1 including mass of composite layer) under a stack pressure of 280 kPa (0.2 C charge with a constant voltage charge at 4.3 V to 0.05 C and 1.0 C discharge within a voltage window of 4.3 V to 3.0 V). The rational design of the single-ion-conductor-based composite layer demonstrated in this work provides a way forward for constructing energy-dense rechargeable lithium metal batteries with minimal electrolyte content. The reactivity between lithium and a liquid electrolyte leads to degradation of a lithium metal battery, resulting in the depletion of the liquid electrolyte. In this study, through analysis of the genome of Eleutherococcus senticosus (ES). 228 AP2/ERF genes were identified and classified into 5 groups AP2 (47 genes), ERF (108 genes), RAV (6 genes), DREB (64 genes), and soloist (3 genes). According to the AP2/ERF classification of Arabidopsis thaliana, the ES AP2/ERF proteins were subdivided into 15 groups. The gene structure and motifs of each group of AP2/ERF in ES were highly similar, which confirmed the conservation of AP2/ERF genes. The ES AP2/ERF genes were unevenly distributed on chromosomes, and a total of four pairs of tandem repeats, and 84 co-linear gene pairs were found, so the AP2/ERF genes expanded in a fragment replication manner, and dominated by pure selection during evolution. By analyzing the transcriptome data of ES under different drought stress conditions, 87 AP2/ERF genes with differential expression were obtained, of which 10 genes with highly significant differences were further analyzed and screened for qRT-PCR validation. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report on the AP2/ERF gene of Eleutherococcus senticosus, and the bioinformatics analysis and experimental validation provided valuable information about them, which is of great significance for further research on the molecular mechanisms of ES in response to drought stress. The design and synthesis of artificial molecular containers for the encapsulation of hydrocarbon gases to study their host-guest chemistry are highly important for potential application in gas storage, separation, and understanding of their biological functions. In this work, we report the subcomponent self-assembly of four cubic Zn8L12Br4 (HL = N-(4-R)-1-(5-methyl-1H-imidazole-4-yl)methanimine) cages with good solubility in chloroform, which are capable of binding hydrocarbon gases including methane, ethane, and ethene in solution at ambient temperature. Two types of gas binding sites (one is in the cavity, and the other is at the window) are discovered in these cages, which are documented by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectra and density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Their performance of encapsulation of hydrocarbon gases can be tuned by carefully adjusting substituent groups. These metal-organic cages containing two types of binding sites provide new artificial models to mimic the structures and functions of biological systems in binding and transforming hydrocarbon gases. The influence of weights is usually ignored in the study of nonlinear vibrations of plates. In this paper, the effect of structure weights on the nonlinear vibration of a composite circular plate with a rigid body is presented. The nonlinear governing equations are derived from the generalized Hamilton's principle and the von Kármán plate theory. The equilibrium configurations due to weights are determined and validated by the finite element method (FEM). A nonlinear model for the vibration around the equilibrium configuration is established. Moreover, the natural frequencies and amplitude-frequency responses of harmonically forced vibrations are calculated. The study shows that the structure weights introduce additional linear and quadratic nonlinear terms into the dynamical model. This leads to interesting phenomena. For example, considering weights increases the natural frequency. Furthermore, when the influence of weights is considered, the vibration response of the plate becomes asymmetrical. Background: Outdoor air pollution, including ozone (O3) pollution, and childhood family environments may interact and impact asthma exacerbations in children. Previous epidemiology studies have primarily focused on stress in the home, rather than support, and whether psychosocial factors modify the association between pollution and health outcomes, rather than whether pollution exposure modifies associations between psychosocial factors and health outcomes. Methods: Data from the cross-sectional 2003 representative, population-based California Health Interview Survey were linked with air quality monitoring data on O3 pollution from the California Air Resources Board. Adolescents (N = 209) ages 12–17 who reported an asthma diagnosis and lived within 5 mi of the nearest air monitoring station had linked O3 data for a 12-month period preceding the survey interview date. Adolescents reported perceived available support from an adult at home and frequency of asthma symptoms. Results: In unadjusted models, for adolescents living in high O3 pollution regions, greater perceived support was related to lower asthma symptom frequency. Follow-up analyses suggested that the most plausible interpretation of the interaction was that O3 exposure modified the association between perceived support and symptom frequency. O3 × perceived support interactions were not statistically significant after adjusting for covariates. Conclusions: These data provide preliminary evidence that the association between the lack of support in the home environment and worse asthma symptoms may be stronger in areas with higher O3 exposure. Future work may benefit from incorporating personal pollution exposure assessments, comprehensive family environment assessments, and longitudinal follow-up of asthma exacerbations over time. Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor (MPNST) is a highly aggressive sarcoma, and a lethal neurofibromatosis type 1-related malignancy, with little progress made on treatment strategies. Here, we apply a multiplatform integrated molecular analysis on 108 tumors spanning the spectrum of peripheral nerve sheath tumors to identify candidate drivers of MPNST that can serve as therapeutic targets. Unsupervised analyses of methylome and transcriptome profiles identify two distinct subgroups of MPNSTs with unique targetable oncogenic programs. We establish two subgroups of MPNSTs: SHH pathway activation in MPNST-G1 and WNT/ß-catenin/CCND1 pathway activation in MPNST-G2. Single nuclei RNA sequencing characterizes the complex cellular architecture and demonstrate that malignant cells from MPNST-G1 and MPNST-G2 have neural crest-like and Schwann cell precursor-like cell characteristics, respectively. Further, in pre-clinical models of MPNST we confirm that inhibiting SHH pathway in MPNST-G1 prevent growth and malignant progression, providing the rational for investigating these treatments in clinical trials. Purpose: The presence of anti-interferon-γ autoantibodies (AutoAbs-IFN-γ) is not rare in patients suffering from persistent non-tuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) infections that are characteristic of adult-onset immunodeficiency syndrome. The immune disturbances in this distinct disorder remain to be elucidated. Methods: Patients with NTM infections but without effective response over 3 months' treatment were referred to our institute to quantify their level of AutoAbs-IFN-γ after excluding defective IL12/23-IFN-γ circuit and reactive oxygen species production. The AutoAbs-IFN-γ and percentage of lymphocyte subpopulations most relevant to T and B cell pools were assessed and compared with age-matched healthy controls. Results: A total of 31 patients were enrolled during the 15-year study period (2008–2022), 20 patients with > 50% suppression of IFN-γ detection at 1:100 serum dilution were classified into the Auto-NTM group. The remaining 11 with negligible suppression were assigned to the No Auto-NTM group. Mycobacterium chimaera-intracellulare group (MAC), M. kansasii, and M. abscessus were the most common pathogens. Pneumonia (19 vs 7), lymphadenitis (11 vs 5), Salmonella sepsis (6 vs 2), osteomyelitis (5 vs 1), and cutaneous herpes zoster (4 vs 4) were the main manifestations in both the Auto-NTM and No Auto-NTM groups who had similar onset-age (55.3 vs 53.6 years; p = 0.73) and follow-up duration (71.9 vs 54.6 months; p = 0.45). The Auto-NTM group had significantly higher transitional (IgM + + CD38 + +), CD19 + CD21-low, and plasmablast (IgM-CD38 + +) in the B cell pool, with higher effector memory (CD4 + /CD8 + CD45RO + CCR7 −), senescent CD8 + CD57 + , and Th17 cells, but lower naïve (CD4 + /CD8 + CD45RO − CCR7 +) and Treg cells in the T cell pool when compared to the No Auto-NTM and healthy groups. NTM patients with/without AutoAbs-IFN-γ had lower Th1-like Tfh (CD4 + CXCR5 + CXCR3 + CCR6 −) cells. All Auto-NTM patients still had non-remitted mycobacterial infections and higher AutoAbs-IFN-γ despite anti-CD20 therapy in 3 patients. Conclusion: In patients with suspected adult-onset immunodeficiency syndrome, two thirds (20/31) were recognized as having significantly inhibitory AutoAbs-IFN-γ with higher antibody-enhancing transitional, CD19 + CD21-low and plasmablast B cells; as well as higher effector memory, senescent CD8 + CD57 + and Th17 cells, but lower naïve T and Treg cells in contrast to those with negligible AutoAbs-IFN-γ. Surface texturing is a potential approach to achieving excellent surface performance. To realize high precision and efficiency in micro-texturing fabrication, a surface texturing method utilizing an ultrasonic surface rolling process is proposed. Firstly, the feasibility and geometric controllability of micro-texture preparation using ultrasonic surface rolling process are analyzed. Then, a contact theory model of ultrasonic rolling texturing process is established, which can describe the geometric relationship of the micro-texturing generation region. Based on the elastic–plastic theory, simulations of single-pass and multi-pass ultrasonic rolling texturing processes are developed to elucidate the formation and strengthening mechanism of micro-textures, and further characterize the effects of ultrasonic rolling machining parameters on micro-textures. A series of validation tests of ultrasonic rolling texturing are implemented on AISI 5140 steel. Simulation and experimental results show that the ultrasonic surface rolling process can fabricate micro-groove arrays with the periodic distribution. The validity of the theoretical and finite element models is confirmed by the comparison results. Anaerobic ammonium oxidation (anammox) is an innovative biotechnology for high-efficiency and low-cost removal of ammonia nitrogen in wastewater. However, anammox reactors generally started up with low loading, and the loading typically increased slowly because anammox bacteria are sensitive to acute changes in nitrogen loading. In this study, high loading (13.6 kg-N m−3 day−1) start-up and rapid loading increase were accomplished in an up-flow anaerobic sludge bed reactor using anammox granules by progressively shortening hydraulic retention time and increasing substrate concentrations of the influent, where the loading rapidly reached 38.0 kg-N m−3 day−1 within 44 days. During the operation process, the granular density, extracellular polymeric substances, and heme c content were all increased. Meanwhile, the relative abundance of Candidatus Brocadia increased from 34.7 to 57.1%. And the corresponding copy number of anammox bacteria increased from 3.9 ± 0.84 × 106 to 1.3 ± 0.60 × 107 copies−1 g−1 VSS. Our study provides a potential strategy for the rapid achievement of high nitrogen loading with robust removal efficiency in anammox reactors and also offers an effective approach to obtaining superior anammox granules. Background: Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is the leading cause of end-stage renal disease in the developed world. Podocyte injury is a critical cellular event involved in the progression of DN. Our previous studies demonstrated that platelet-derived microparticles (PMPs) mediated endothelial injury in diabetic rats. This study aimed to investigate whether PMPs are deposited in podocytes and to assess their potential effects on podocyte injury in DN. Methods: The deposition of PMPs in podocytes was assessed by immunofluorescent staining and electron microscopy. The changes in renal pathology and ultra-microstructure were assessed by periodic acid-Schiff staining and electron microscopy, respectively. The expression of inflammatory cytokines and extracellular matrix proteins was measured by immuno-histochemical staining and western blot. Results: PMPs were widely deposited in podocytes of glomeruli in diabetic patients and animal models and closely associated with DN progression. Interestingly, aspirin treatment significantly inhibited the accumulation of PMPs in the glomeruli of diabetic rats, alleviated mesangial matrix expansion and fusion of foot processes, and decreased the protein expression of inflammatory cytokines and extracellular matrix secretion. An in vitro study further confirmed the deposition of PMPs in podocytes. Moreover, PMP stimulation induced the phenotypic transition of podocytes through decreased podocin protein expression and increased protein expression of α-SMA and fibronectin, which was correlated with increased production of inflammatory cytokines. Few studies have examined the effects of using mediation tools (e.g., collaborative dialogs and online searches) on graduate students' academic writing in a computer-mediated collaborative writing environment. This study investigated what types of co-constructed writing knowledge the graduate students generated from using the mediation tools to solve writing problems, and to what extent the co-constructed writing knowledge facilitated each student's academic writing. Thirty-six Taiwanese graduate students, who studied English as a foreign language (EFL), volunteered to participate in an online collaborative writing program featuring developing argumentative essays. Data collected in this study include the students' collaborative dialogs, online search logs, open-ended questionnaires, and the students' collaborative and individual writing texts. The results show that the students using the mediation tools could generate two types of co-constructed writing knowledge in terms of language forms and skills of expressions, and they outperformed those who did not, in aspects of holistic performance, communicative quality, text organization, argumentation, linguistic accuracy, and linguistic appropriateness. It is concluded that students may co-construct writing knowledge to solve writing problems and improve both collaborative and individual writing through effective use of the mediation tools available in an online collaborative writing environment. Introduction: A high malignancy rate and poor prognosis are common problems with triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). There is increasing evidence that glycolysis plays vital roles in tumorigenesis, tumor invasion, immune evasion, chemoresistance, and metastasis. However, a comprehensive analysis of the diagnostic and prognostic significance of glycolysis in TNBC is lacking. Methods: Transcriptomic and clinical data of TNBC patients were obtained from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Molecular Taxonomy of Breast Cancer International Consortium (METABRIC) databases, respectively. Glycolysis-related genes (GRGs) were collected from the Molecular Signatures Database (MSigDB). Differential comparative analysis was performed to obtain the differentially expressed (DE)-GRGs associated with TNBC. Based on the DE-GRGs, a glycolysis-related risk signature was established using Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selector Operation (LASSO) and multivariable Cox regression analyses. The prognostic value, tumor microenvironment, mutation status, and chemotherapy response of different risk groups were analyzed. An independent cohort from the METABRIC database was used for external validation. Furthermore, the expression patterns of five genes derived from the prognostic model were validated by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR). Results: The glycolysis-related prognostic signature included five genes (IFNG, ACSS2, IRS2, GFUS, and GAL3ST1) and predicted the prognosis of TNBC patients independent of clinical factors (p < 0.05). Patients were divided into high- and low-risk groups based on the median risk score. Compared to low-risk TNBC patients, high-risk patients had significantly decreased overall survival (HR = 2.718, p < 0.001). Receiver operating characteristic and calibration curves demonstrated that the model had high performance in terms of predicting survival and risk stratification. The results remained consistent after external verification. Additionally, the tumor immune microenvironment significantly differed between the risk groups. Low-risk TNBC patients had a better immunotherapy response than high-risk patients. High-risk TNBC patients with a poor prognosis may benefit from targeted therapy. Conclusions: This study developed a novel glycolysis and prognosis-related (GRP) signature based on GRGs to predict the prognosis of TNBC patients, and may aid clinical decision-making for these patients. Background: Metabolic disorders are significant in the occurrence and development of malignant tumors. Changes of specific metabolites and metabolic pathways are molecular therapeutic targets. This study aims to determine the metabolic differences between oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) tissues and paired adjacent noncancerous tissues (ANT) through liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS). SPHK1 is a key enzyme in sphingolipid metabolism. This study also investigates the potential role of SPHK1 in OSCC. Materials and Methods: This study used LC-MS to analyze metabolic differences between OSCC tissues and paired ANT. Principal component analysis (PCA) and partial least-squares discriminant analysis (PLS-DA) were applied to explain the significance of phospholipid metabolism pathways in the occurrence and development of OSCC. Through further experiments, we confirmed the oncogenic phenotypes of SPHK1 in vitro and in vivo, including proliferation, migration, and invasion. Results: The sphingolipid metabolic pathway was significantly activated in OSCC, and the key enzyme SPHK1 was significantly upregulated in oral cancer tissues, predicting poor OSCC prognosis. In this study, SPHK1 overexpression was associated with high-grade malignancy and poor OSCC prognosis. SPHK1 targeted NF-κB by facilitating p65 expression to regulate OSCC tumor progression and promote metastasis. Conclusions: This study identified metabolic differences between OSCC and paired ANT, explored the carcinogenic role of overexpressed SPHK1, and revealed the association of SPHK1 with poor OSCC prognosis. SPHK1 targets NF-κB signaling by facilitating p65 expression to regulate tumor progression and promote tumor metastasis, providing potential therapeutic targets for diagnosing and treating oral tumors. Developing efficient catalysts is of paramount importance to oxygen evolution, a sluggish anodic reaction that provides essential electrons and protons for various electrochemical processes, such as hydrogen generation. Here, we report that the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) can be efficiently catalyzed by cobalt tetrahedra, which are stabilized over the surface of a Swedenborgite-type YBCo4O7 material. We reveal that the surface of YBaCo4O7 possesses strong resilience towards structural amorphization during OER, which originates from its distinctive structural evolution toward electrochemical oxidation. The bulk of YBaCo4O7 composes of corner-sharing only CoO4 tetrahedra, which can flexibly alter their positions to accommodate the insertion of interstitial oxygen ions and mediate the stress during the electrochemical oxidation. The density functional theory calculations demonstrate that the OER is efficiently catalyzed by a binuclear active site of dual corner-shared cobalt tetrahedra, which have a coordination number switching between 3 and 4 during the reaction. We expect that the reported active structural motif of dual corner-shared cobalt tetrahedra in this study could enable further development of compounds for catalyzing the OER. Molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) can exhibit antibody-level affinity for target molecules. However, the nonspecific adsorption of non-imprinted regions for non-target molecules limits the application range of MIPs. Herein, we fabricated PEGylated boronate-affinity-oriented ellagic acid-imprinting magnetic nanoparticles (PBEMN), which first integrated boronate-affinity-oriented surface imprinting and sequential PEGylation for small molecule-imprinted MIPs. The resultant PBEMN possess higher adsorption capacity and faster adsorption rate for template ellagic acid (EA) molecules than the non-PEGylated control. To prove the excellent performance, the PBEMN were linked with hydrophilic boronic acid-modified/fluorescein isothiocyanate-loaded graphene oxide (BFGO), because BFGO could selectively label cis-diol-containing substances by boronate-affinity and output ultrasensitive fluorescent signals. Based on a dual boronate-affinity synergy, the PBEMN first selectively captured EA molecules by boronate-affinity-oriented molecular imprinted recognition, and then the EA molecules were further labeled with BFGO through boronate-affinity. The PBEMN linked BFGO (PBPF) strategy provided ultrahigh sensitivity for EA molecules with a limit of detection of 39.1 fg mL−1, resulting from the low nonspecific adsorption of PBEMN and the ultrasensitive fluorescence signal of BFGO. Lastly, the PBPF strategy was successfully employed in the determination of EA concentration in a spiked beverage sample with recovery and relative standard deviation in the range of 96.5 to 104.2% and 3.8 to 5.1%, respectively. This work demonstrates that the integration of boronate-affinity-oriented surface imprinting and sequential PEGylation may be a universal tool for improving the performance of MIPs. Maximum plant height (Hmax), stem tissue mass density (SD), leaf mass per area (LMA), and relative growth rate (RGR) have all been linked to flowering phenology. However, it is still unknown whether these functional traits varying with flowering phenology are related to other floral traits associated with pollinator preference and reproductive success. We investigated the relationship between vegetative and floral traits, as well as the rates of insect visitation and seed set of five Gentiana species in eastern Tibetan meadows. Our results showed that flowering onset and flowering offset time were all found to be positively correlated with the Hmax, SD, and LMA, but negatively correlated with the RGR. Flowering onset time was positively correlated with corolla diameter and pollen grain number, whereas was negatively correlated with flower number and flower longevity. The rates of insect visitation were positively related to flowering onset time, pollen grain number, corolla diameter, and seed set, but negatively related to flower number and longevity. Early flowering species have higher RGR but lower SD, LMA and Hmax, as well as smaller flowers, fewer pollen grains, longer flower longevity, and lower insect visitation rates than late-flowering plant species. Our findings indicate that floral traits are related to vegetative traits in Gentiana species. Also these plant trait relationships were associated with pollinator preference, and plant reproductive success of eastern Tibetan meadows. We speculate that these traits relationships are likely adaptive in unpredictable and often pollinator-limited environments in the Tibet alpine meadows. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The incidence of Tourette syndrome and chronic tic disorders has seldom been evaluated in Asia. Methods: Using the National Taiwan Insurance Research Database, the annual standardized incidence and prevalence of Tourette syndrome (TS) and chronic tic disorders were estimated from 2007 to 2015. The pre-existing comorbidity at disease diagnosis was also evaluated. Results: From 2007 to 2015, the age- and sex-standardized incidence increased from 5.34 (95% confidence interval [CI] 5.06–5.62) per 100,000 person-years to 6.87 (95% CI 6.53–7.21) per 100,000 person-years. In children and adolescents, the age- and sex-standardized incidence increased from 19.58 (95% CI 18.42–20.75) per 100,000 person-years to 31.79 (95% CI 30.09–33.49) per 100,000 person-years. In adults, the age- and sex-standardized incidence decreased from 2.01 (95% CI 1.79–2.23) per 100,000 person-years to 1.24 (95% CI 1.07–1.42) per 100,000 person-years. The incidence rate ratio (IRR) between males and females was 3.74 (95% CI 3.32–4.22). The age- and sex-standardized prevalence increased from 37.51 (95% CI 36.75–38.27) per 100,000 people in 2007 to 84.18 (95% CI 83.02–85.35) per 100,000 people in 2015. The rate risk (RR) between males and females was 3.65 (95% CI 3.53–3.78). Conclusion: The annual incidence rates of TS and chronic tic disorders increased in childhood and adolescence but decreased in adulthood from 2007 to 2015. The model-free adaptive secure tracking control (MFASTC) problem of nonlinear networked control systems is explored in this paper with the consideration of DoS attacks and RTT delays. In order to compensate for DoS attacks and RTT delays, a new estimate value dependent attack compensation mechanism is proposed and a network-based predictive delay compensation mechanism is employed. The data-based design method need not any model or structure information of the system, and only depends on input/output data. In addition, the MFASTC algorithm is proposed to guarantee the output tracking error being bounded in the sense of mean square. Iron-bearing clay minerals and arsenic commonly coexist in soils and sediments. Redox oscillation from anoxic to oxic conditions can result in structural Fe(II) oxidation in clay minerals. However, the role of structural Fe(II) oxidation in clay minerals on arsenic immobilization is still unclear. In this study, we found that oxidation of structural Fe(II) in bioreduced clay mineral nontronite (NAu-2) triggered As(III) adsorption onto NAu-2. As(III) was adsorbed onto NAu-2 through ligand exchange with hydroxyl groups which were generated by the oxidation of structural Fe(II) in NAu-2. In addition, oxidation of structural Fe(II) led to the oxidation of As(III) to As(V), which further enhanced the adsorption of dissolved As(III) on NAu-2. Therefore, the adsorption capacity of As(III) onto oxidized NAu-2 was 1.6 times higher than that of native NAu-2. Oxidation of structural Fe(II) was a two-stage process that proceeded from exterior sites to interior sites, and the immobilization and oxidation of As(III) occurred predominantly at the rapid exterior structural Fe(II) oxidation stage. Our findings highlight that the oxidation of structural Fe(II) in iron-bearing clay minerals may play an important role in arsenic immobilization and transformation in the subsurface environment. China's many dams are increasingly facing safety problems resulting from the natural aging of the dam hydraulic structure and geological disasters such as earthquakes under the operating condition of holding a vast amount of water. Problems such as dam leakage and concrete cracking and erosion seriously affect the normal operation and effectiveness of a reservior. It is impossible to empty a large reservoir with a high dam for many reasons, such as serious environmental consequences, and it is thus difficult to detect the working conditions of the underwater part of the facility. There is an increasingly urgent demand for detection and repair technologies that can be used in the deepwater environment. Indeed, there are cutting-edge deepwater detection and processing technologies for hidden dangers in dam engineering. The core technologies include underwater detection equipment, diving technologies, and underwater operation technologies. This paper analyzes safety-oriented detection equipment recently used in unmanned detection, manned detection, and deepwater diver detection from the viewpoint of practical application. The paper further reviews 100-m-depth-class technologies and applications of safety inspection, repair, and reinforcement equiment in the deepwater environment of reservoir dams.
