Zaragozapirhidius Vega-Badillo et al., a new genus of wedge-shaped beetles (Coleoptera, Ripiphoridae) from Volcán Tacaná, Chiapas, Mexico is proposed on the basis of the new species, Zaragozapirhidius zuritai Vega-Badillo et al. The new genus is generally similar to the New World complex of genera Pirhidius Besuchet, 1957, Neorrhipidius Viana, 1958, Quasipirhidius Zaragoza, 1991, and Quasirhipidius Zaragoza, 1991. It differs from all by having 10-segmented antennae (not 11-segmented) and maxillary palpi reduced to a knob-like tubercle (not maxillary palpi as long filaments with fused basal palpomeres). It shares a similar antennal segmentation and reduced mouthpart structure with the Old-World genus Blattivorus Chobaut, 1891, which, however, lacks postocular ommatidia, present in the new genus. The new taxon constitutes the 6th genus and the 10th species of recent Ripidiinae from the New World, respectively, placing Mexico as a center of endemism holding half of the recent species of the subfamily in the area. A key to the genera and a species list of the Ripidiinae of the New World are provided. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
