The article discusses a study that examined the role of central venous catheter (CVC) removal in the outcomes of Swiss adult patients with candidemia. Candida in the bloodstream can cause CVC infection, while the CVC can be a primary source of fungemia. The results indicate that failure to remove the CVC can be a consequence, rather than a cause, of death in patients with candidemia.
